Reviews for Cannards Well

Review 1:Getting booked in to the B&B was touch and go for a while. When we arrived the place was in darkness and there was nobody answering the door so I rang the number on the booking form. Apparently the owner had given all his staff Christmas off and had cancelled any new bookings ‘some time ago’ the but booking.com failed to pass on that information on to us, so rather than turn us away and as long as we didn't mind the bar not being open he had a look to see what room was ready and showed us to one that had a double bed, a single bed, a couple of sofas and even a sofa bed in one room and through a door there was a large bathroom with a corner bath and shower enclosure (it had a shower with a fixed shower head and a flexible shower head on a hose, but the rose from the fixed head was missing). The only downside was the B&B was situated on a main road and apart from a couple of hours during the night when the road went quite there was a more or less a constant rumble of traffic. The original booking was for a double room, single room and a dog. But luckily enough part of our party and the dog had made other arrangements and only the double room was needed. It was very lucky that the owner was avaible to accommodate us on Christmas Day because I doubt we would had found anywhere else, not even a stable

Review 2:The bed was comfortable. and the breakfast was fantastic.

Review 3:Thread bare carpets, broken toilet seat for which I fell off , broken shower doors , broken draws ,wardrobe taped together with tape, plant looking like it was heading for the great escape, broken hand rail on stairs , cobwebs in abundance , would you like me to go on !!

Review 4:Nothing ,I have already sent my views to you ,it was the most exhausting and dreadful experience of a b&b or whatever the place is called, avoid like the plague!

Review 5:we found a filthy pair of knickers or pants under the curtains when we pulled them across to close them in evening.

Review 6:hotel in good location for exploring towns and around other areas.

Review 7:No tv till 1030,no hot water from shower bulb missing from hallway light in room outside hallway carpet unsafe.Water coming through windows.

Review 8:Food was good.

Review 9:There was some road noise late at night which meant you could not have the window open.

Review 10:The Host and staff were very welcoming and polite, the room was clean and comfortable I would certainly return for another stay, the breakfast was really good.

Review 11:Very tired stairs & hallway -- blinds broken/carpet edging broken/buckled. Bedroom had small area of rotted carpet -- TV didn't work at first -- Bathroom needed refit -- bath panel split- fan unable to extract - shaver light U/S - basin pedestal mis-match - shower not usable due to faulty fittings - heavy mould around edge of ceiling

Review 12:Friendly & helpful staff & owner -- large bedroom -- some meals good -- several free drinks helped compensate for bad points. T.v was repaired when asked. Clean comfy bed & soft towels

Review 13:The staff were helpful and friendly. There was an error with the booking, but Caroline went over and above our expectations to sort it out. Completely pet friendly. Providing clean water and little treats for them.

Review 14:This place is basically a pub with accommodation, stuck right next to a very busy main road and probably half a mile from Shepton Mallett. Opened the door to enter, only to be greeted with 'no food today, no chef'. That was an immediate 'Put Off', not that we wanted food anyway but no 'hello, how can we help' or any pleasantries. The place is right next to a very busy main road. We viewed the room and asked if we could be moved, as the noise from the traffic was unacceptable. However, we were given the option of the room above, which we were told would reduce the traffic noise significantly. This turned out to be totally incorrect as were awoken at 05.30am the next morning, with the sound of passing cars and in particular, heavy duty lorries. We were originally booked in for two nights but cancelled the 2nd night, as this place was not for us.

Review 15:The bed was comfortable and bed linen clean

Review 16:The room was like a broom cupboard, very cramped, shower was dirty, thetv must have come from the ark, no phone, bulbs missing from bedlights, not impressed at all, will certainly not recommend

Review 17:The location was ok near to Bath

Review 18:Bathroom dated, shower needed cleaning & one of the doors came off its runner. There was a leak from the bathroom above that came through the smoke alarm in our ceiling. Overall it has seen better days

Review 19:Near to places we wanted to visit

Review 20:Shower was cold water only Water dripping through the ceiling of my room at 11pm (guests in the room above me had showered without using the curtain apparently!) Venue right on a very busy main road, very noisy in and outside Hotel in need of complete repair, refit and redecoration Hotel appeared disorganised and dysfunctional One member of staff left my room open after she had finished checking the shower whilst I was having breakfast! Hotel was more of a Truck Stop than a family hotel or a place to stay for a single person

Review 21:One member of staff (Kim) was very helpful Food was OK and reasonably priced Bed comfortable and linen clean

Review 22:The carpets were ill fitting and the shower door was falling off but that pays an insignificance to the comfortable bed, the quality of the food and the staff.

Review 23:The bed was unbelievably comfortable!one of the best I have ever slept in :-) And the staff were very helpful and exceeded my expectation, as a disabled vegan, they went out of their way get me some thing i could eat and carry heavy bags from the car. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 24:They didn't empty my bin and they didn't change my bed linen for 5 days!! One towel stayed in my room for 5 days!!

Review 25:Staff friendly and welcoming.

Review 26:A little noisey. Ask for rooms at the back of the hotel. Property a little run down in need of some maintenance. My shower doors were off their runners and a new mattress wouldn't go astray, plus pillows and towels. No coat hangers, limited room space.

Review 27:The friendliness of the owner Jim to engage you, always happy to oblige.

Review 28:Cleanliness of establishment, lots of dust in room, cobwebs, mould in shower. General feel of neglect and decay about the place.

Review 29:Location to New Wine Conference

Review 30:Hall carpet and waiting for hot water to run through

Review 31:Lovely room with double aspect and good views and plenty of space with little lounge area by TV - good breakfast

Review 32:Booking.com hadnt booked us in despite booking in February. The staff were very helpful and managed to accommodate us- we were most grateful for their help.

Review 33:The staff were very supportive of us. It had gd parking. The breakfasts with fried bread were yummy!

Review 34:It was generally shabby, grubby, and a bit smelly, furniture cheap and falling apart, hallway carpet rucked up and frayed, shower a bit pathetic, kettle lid broken.

Review 35:Staff were generally pleasant and helpful. Water was hot. Breakfast was okay and plentiful. Bed was comfortable.

Review 36:No complaints

Review 37:Outdoor smoking area , clean room number 14 end of corridor made for a quiet night , breakfast was good apart from having to find staff to order cooked food , value for money

Review 38:Rude staff at breakfast, seemed rather annoyed that we were there. Cold shower in the room.

Review 39:Great selection of drinks at the bar. Easy and friendly check in. Comfortable room.

Review 40:could do with a little bit of TLC here and there but will get done when they have time

Review 41:jim the owner could not do enough for me had a slight problem with first room by boiler moved to another room which was fine the breakfast was first class

Review 42:Arrived about 5pm,shown to room 2. Contained a d I y rough wood wardrobe with no doors,a non working shower and a cracked basin to wash in and lots of dirt and dust Tried to get food but none served after 6pm. No sleep at night because of traffic noise. This place obviously is not inspected ...

Review 43:The best thing we found about this place was leaving.

Review 44:We got a free upgrade to what must of been the best room in the hotel it was that nice it had sky tv in which is the first hotel I have seen with this and the owner took us to the wedding we were going to , to save on a taxi fare and the breakfast was absolutely amazing

Review 45:Slightly awkward if you find stairs hard but everything else good

Review 46:Super dog friendly which is fab, helped upstairs with my dog, extremely friendly staff, very pleasant place, would go back for sure

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:This is whithout doubt a great find .the food is brilliant. .the range of beers and sprites fab ,and as for the breakfast 1st class .and all value for money .the girls who serve breakfast r wonderfull .as r all the staff .

Review 49:Run down and shabby. Room not cleaned for two days. i.e. Cups not even washed or bathroom cleaned. Room paint peeling plants dead. Food in fridge out of date by 1.2.2015 over 3 months late!! General areas untidy and dirty.

Review 50:Breakfast o.k.

Review 51:Was not aware that we would be so close to a major road and have noise all through the night. No chair in the room and little clean space to put clothes in.

Review 52:Very comfortable bed. Good cooked breakfast.

Review 53:Room basic & 'tired looking'. Noise from an extractor fan or generator outside the window was unacceptable - it went on all night -good job it was only a one nights stay!

Review 54:Convenient to the Bath & West Showground

Review 55:Window Blinds jammed down 1 window screwed up so it would not open. Shower cold hot water very poor. Not so clean and dusty in places table mats and tables sticky and not so clean. Sunday roast very dried up and some uneatable and hard quit disapointing .High road noise so dificult to sleep inn our room .

Review 56:Staff were good . Our doddie could come to be with us all the time and at breakfast and evening meals. Location close to our show.

Review 57:Shower head not working properly and TV fell off the wall after being held up with remote ! Alarm clock in staff room ? going off from 11.00pm to 2.00am

Review 58:Staff were great, clean rooms and a good price.

Review 59:Too much pepper on my steak, noisy road (but no problem with window closed)

Review 60:Friendly staff & bar, very wide hours of serving food, excellent breakfast, good price.

Review 61:Internet not always working upstairs, but not a huge problem. A little cold sometimes in dining area / bar. Can't find any "real" faults with this place, it's great!

Review 62:Great generous full English breakfasts. We had Suite C and although it was above the main road, the traffic noise didn't disturb us as much as we thought. Suite nice and big, two lovely sofas, a writing table with chair, good double bed AND an extra bed too with mattress underneath...theoretically could sleep six!! Fab value for money. Good location for Wells, Glastonbury, Shepton M, and driving through to or from London too. Our room nice and warm, TV with PIN number for some movies (Love Actually!) that we were given when we asked. On-site car parking, free.

Review 63:Some folks may not like the fact that the Wi Fi didn't seem to reach the top floor where my room was. May have been my devices but Wi Fi was good in the bar, so no big deal

Review 64:Staff, Room, Food were all excellent.

Review 65:Nothing not to like

Review 66:The rooms were spacious, huge towels and a bath too! Every meal was superb and the friendly helpful staff led by Jim added to our fabulous stay. They went above & beyond to help us out and make our stay such a wonderful experience. thank you.

Review 67:Overall state of decor and carpets made it feel dirty, inconsiderate music playing at 6am, the music travels through floors.

Review 68:Staff very friendly and welcoming.

Review 69:The room was small, the heater didn't work. The shower was far too small. The bed was uncomfortable. Definitely not worth £60 per night.

Review 70:The staff were very helpful and polite, couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent. Location was spot on for our needs.

Review 71:Everything. Room was mouldy and damp in several places. Black dark wet mould. Very dirty. Damp sell.

Review 72:Nothing. We didn't even 42nd up staying the night.

Review 73:Towel radiator didn't work. Bedside lamps didn't work. Bedside radio clock alarm didn't work.Electrics had been disconnect but left bare. Not enough towels for two people.

Review 74:Canard wells changed booking to Pecking Mill. Host was excellent. Breakfast was very good. Overall it was good

Review 75:Hotel in bad need of updating - stained carpeting, mould in bathroom, generally cluttered - junk stored in entrance way, reception desk located in bar - doesn't create good impression on arrival. Given competition from Highwayman Inn next door, they really need to pick it up.

Review 76:Breakfast was good and friendly staff. Good size room and WiFi reception was good.

Review 77:Booking.com gave us twin room instead of double - but owner changed beds around to make our stay more comfortable. Room décor a bit basic. A bit noisy with traffic early morning as had window open.

Review 78:Friendliness of staff. Breakfast very tasty & plenty of it & unlimited tea & coffee. Big tv with sky in room. Room clean.

Review 79:Had to go and get ear plugs to sleep at night, as it was right next to a main road with traffic passing all though the night. All looking a bit tired.I like a bath but had to have a shower, as there were hairs floating in the water when bath filled up, Not mine!!

Review 80:The food was good and well cooked. Plenty of it I have got no any complaints about the food. Staff very friendly.

Review 81:Bad odour in the bathroom possibly due to mould, but was told it was septic tank problem, also bathroom was not in good decorative order.Fire door outside of room made constant loud creaking upon closing. Breakfast preparation was shambolic,no cups and breakfast station was dirty.Carpet in room looked shabby and was stained, drawer door was hanging off and traffic noise was a problem. We were booked for 2 nights but decided to leave after 1, asked for our money back for the one night and explained why we were leaving. We were given a refund and told if we were coming back he would give us a free night! Trust me we won't be returning!

Review 82:Evening meal very good and good value for money.

Review 83:My own fault that I didn't rent a car _ it is rather remote!

Review 84:The owner Jim and his staff went the extra mile to make sure our stay was enjoyable. It is these personal touches that steers me away from corporate hotel chains to places like this. If I am ever in the area again I would definitely book here. Cheers to Jim!

Review 85:People shouting down the corridors all night. Music being playedthroughout the night. Dirty and extremely old decor. Shower blind Ithink was from 1983. To top it off was an owner that clearly did nothave a clue. My work colleague was new to Somerset being from America. He wanted to have a small try of 2 local beers to see what he wouldprefer to buy. The waitress obliged but the owner was just plainobnoxious stating "you come down here and sniff and try my beer.£2.50 a pint and you come here and want to stick your nose in it andsample" pathetic and rude . Try the highwaymen pub and hotel nextdoor - lovely staff and clean. Avoid castle dracula at all costs!

Review 86:Due to error with booking.com .unfortunately when we made our booking we was contacted afterwards to say they had no vacancies. Jim at cannards kindly went out of his way to arrange alternate accommadation. We had breakfast and evening meal there which was nice.

Review 87:Water came through my ceiling in two different areas. My stay was queried even though my booking form clearly stated I was booked in until Friday

Review 88:Very good staff at breakfast

Review 89:Shower controls v.difficult but understand this will be rectified shortly.

Review 90:Cannot rate the quality [& quantity !] of food too highly, as with the kindness & friendliness of the staff. THIS is how a good Hotel/Pub SHOULD be run ! Highly recommended !!

Review 91:The entrance hall was very off-putting as needs a new carpet or maybe tiled. The property seems to be in need of up dating a bit more. Service at breakfast was a bit slow as think there wasn't enough staff when a large group came in. If this hadn't been the case, it would have been fine.

Review 92:Very good value, because of breakfast and facilities in rooms (tea, coffee etc) The breakfast was very good. Rooms were clean and roomy for single rooms. For a weekend stay is very good.

Review 93:The manager was very rude and made offensive comments regarding a christian event that was taking place locally. The room was 'grubby'. I would not attempt to stay at this place again.

Review 94:Road noise! At its worst on Thursday night. I guess all the lorrys ALL NIGHT where trying to get home for the weekend. Ear plugs didn't get rid of it.

Review 95:Friendly staff, lovely room, good breakfast, near to where I wanted to be.

Review 96:No marmalade for breakfast and breakfast was inconsistent e.g not always mushrooms and variety of eggs ( scrambled/poached ) not always available.

Review 97:Clean, single en-suite room at reasonable price. Good coffee

Review 98:My room was at the front of the hotel and was incredibly noisy. I had seven nights of interrupted sleep due to the traffic and in particular lorries going past on the A37.It was so noisy that I found it difficult to hear the tv. There was no hairdryer- luckily I bought my own, no wardrobe and no fire instructions displayed in the room.

Review 99:I liked the buffet style breakfast and having my eggs and toast cooked to order! Location was good for Bath and West showground.

Review 100:Everything ok - no problems.

Review 101:Manager and staff very helpful especially with meals which were excellent. Position of hotel ideal for many local attractions and price was fine.

Review 102:The pillows could do with replacing as they are very flat & uncomfortable (just a petty little point realy)

Review 103:Very friendly welcome from Staff rooms basic but value for money Food served in bar is very nice

Review 104:No complaints at all loved it all

Review 105:The staff were friendly and helpful. Very welcoming. The room was spacious, well lit, well decorated and comfortable.

Review 106:Bathroom could have had better shower

Review 107:Friendly staff good food.

Review 108:Was upgraded to a suite at no extra cost

Review 109:Friendliness of staff helpfulness and good food

Review 110:The cost of the room via Booking.com was more than if I had booked direct with the hotel

Review 111:Friendly atmosphere

Review 112:v friendly, helpful staff. great breakfast

Review 120:Best breakfast we've had in a long while ,quality and quantity were excellent. the place was clean and tidy but in need of some TLC

Review 121:would have preferred a shower to a bath

Review 122:Staff friendly and helpful, room very comfortable

Review 123:We couldn't be found on their booking system and they were full

Review 124:Good location for what we wanted

Review 125:whole building is showing it's age.....generally shabby I'm afraid.

Review 126:great location.... attractive garden good parking friendly staff

Review 127:Noise, but it cannot be help as on busy road, but this is the location I need

Review 128:Extremely helpful staff, All smiling and friendly.

Review 129:Traffic noise from main road right outside room was very bad and almost continuous. The standard of food not as good as last year's visit sadly.

Review 130:Reasonably clean although the kettle left a lot to be desired. Adequate for a 1 night stay.

Review 131:Friendly staff

Review 132:The noise from the room on the top floor, floorboards creaking when walked on which started very early in the morning.

Review 133:Wi Fi and breakfast

Review 134:It was a bit noisy as it is adjacent to the A37.

Review 135:Good location for glastonbury festival and the staff were brilliant.
