Reviews for Newcastle House Rothbury

Review 1:Shared toilet/bathroom..no shower very 60/70's..though we knew this when we booked.TV system not working, & we we're told it wasn't working the day prior, & the manager stated the repairman couldn't come out.

Review 2:Breakfast & the price.. there is very little wrong with the place, it is just tired & needs bringing up to date, hence the reasonable cost.

Review 3:Single glaze Windows- noisy when right above the main road and at chucking out time in the pub. Didn't eat in the restaurant- had a drink in the bar and the table was dirty & menu uninspiring. Staircase, halls and bedrooms/ bathroom, all past there best !

Review 4:Nice breakfast- when it finally arrived! To be fair, it was clean in the bedroom

Review 5:The place was filthy in the main areas of the hotel and smells of urine, they had no iron or hairdryer. The shower was dirty as well as all communal areas.

Review 6:The location was great right in the centre of the village.

Review 7:Staff extremely accommodating with the request for the early breakfast. Stayed in the bunk room, really comfy beds. Great price and would recommend it to anyone staying up there.

Review 8:I was not given the room I book. The room given was the room that had a lot of noise when the bar was open. The room I had booked had been taken brfoe I could get there. I was charged £59 for this room and I was advertised for £49. This experience might put me off using booking.com in the future

Review 9:Comfortable bed

Review 10:Staff were awesome, we were away all day doing a long run so the ladymade us a take away breakfast and left food for us when we got back. Thefood was awesome too. Food in the restaurant is wicked aswell, shame weweren't in the hotel long enough to enjoy it more. Comfortable roomand very clean. Price is much lower than the service and standards couldcharge so you leave happy with everything. Also rothbury is in a perfectlocation for seeing so many nice places. You can walk to cragside fromthe hotel, shame we couldn't walk the next day.

Review 11:Check in was easy and the room was very clean. Was upgraded to a twin room as there was music playing in the pub and they said it would be too noisy in the room I booked. Didn't hear any music in my room.

Review 12:Nothing to dislike. Would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.

Review 13:Location was brilliant, in centre of Rothbury. Food was very good at hotel and great value for money. Our room could probably do with a bit of an upgrade but we felt very comfortable and the staff were brilliant and ready to do anything for us.

Review 14:Location was excellent. This is a beautiful village with plenty to see and do.The chef makes the best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted. We were a late arrival due to the traffic, but Hotel staff were very accommodating and it was not an issue.

Review 15:Great food. The best we have had on our trip. All the staff were friendly and went out of there way to make us feel welcome. For an old country pub it was excellent.

Review 16:The wi-fi wasn't good but then really was good to get away from internet for couple days!

Review 17:Staff were friendly and even locals were too. Close to everywhere in the town. Was a lovely place.

Review 18:The Newcastle House is great - pub, restaurant and hostel all in one. I had dinner there and it was fantastic. Staff was friendly and its located in the village of Rothbury which has all you need and is in stunning countryside. Street parking open to all and it felt very safe to leave the car!

Review 19:Shared bathroom didn't have shower facilities which made it difficult to wash hair.

Review 20:Great location, nice staff and good breakfast included. Had meal in the evening and that was good too.

Review 21:Not a complaint but would have preferred a sink in the bathroom/shower room.

Review 22:The staff were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for them. Bedding was first class and comfy beds.

Review 23:The bed was so uncomfortable, rocked from side to side. shower was so claustrophobic. They need to update their photos.

Review 24:All the staff were friendly, food was fantastic and chef was love ly.

Review 25:A lack of hygiëne in the dining room (sticky tables, heavy beer smell due to the carpet). But perhaps that is to be excpected when staying in a pub. Thin room walls.

Review 26:Friendly staff, good location. Room ok. Good evening meal served in the lounge bar.

Review 27:The whole, half cooked tomato on my full English. Should at least try to cut in half before cooking!

Review 28:The six bed dorm was surprisingly comfortable. A top stop over with some mates.

Review 29:The tiny bathroom was a bit of a challenge, though adequate for two nights. First time I have stayed somewhere where the bed was bigger than the bathroom!

Review 30:The location was excellent for visiting Cragside - the main purpose of our visit. Very comfortable huge bed with good quality bedding.

Review 31:Rooms could do with a make over

Review 32:The beds where so comfortable and as for the breakfast which was if the highest quality I've had in a very long time in flack I can't remember having a breakfast as good ever

Review 33:Could hear music and the bar till about midnight however this was said when booking.

Review 34:Good for one night which is all we wanted. Bed really comfortable. Shower was good. Great location.

Review 35:When we booked I asked for a Room with a Bath, the Room we were given had a Shared Bath and Toilet with only a Sink in the Room !!!

Review 36:Staff were friendly

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:Alan and his staff were excellent. Had a great night and a lot of fun. If you ever bump into the Rothbury football team then buy them a beer, great bunch of lads

Review 39:Room not very big and quite drab. No hot water in sink.

Review 40:The location, generous breakfast and good quality evening meal. Although over a busy pub it wasn't noisy at all.

Review 41:room wasn't ensuite but that was reflected in the price.

Review 42:People very friendly and helpful location good for Craigside house and Wallington. food available and portions big

Review 43:Mattress in bedroom 6 needs to be replaced. We felt every spring and it was very thin. Woke with backache both mornings.

Review 44:The breakfasts were excellent especially the wonderful sausages. Best we've ever had.

Review 45:Great hotel and really friendly staff and locals. Food in the restaurant was top class, venison was amazing fully recommend. We had a good drink and laugh in rothbury and at the newcastle hotel. Really good (-:

Review 46:No en-suite, shower room was quite a walk away and had to pass pub office and top of stairs where customers could look up and see you. Room was right at side of pub and could overhear customers talking outside, having cigarettes, noise of traffic. Not very welcoming atmosphere, some staff quite 'frosty', food overpriced and quite poor standard. Wi-fi only accessible at times downstairs in pub.

Review 47:Right in village centre and good access to other towns.

Review 48:Being so full after the delicious breakfast that I couldn't manage to eat lunch!

Review 49:Friendly & helpful staff Extremely comfortable bed Warm clean room 1st class breakfast with local top quality produce. Do try the Craster Kippers Perfect base for exploring Northumbria This historic inn, originally known as the Old Black Bull, has bags of good old fashioned charm & character

Review 50:Lack of good internet connection

Review 51:Warm and welcoming staff, we arrived very late in evening , but were still able to enjoy the hospitality of the bar and mingle with the locals. Room was clean with good facilities. Missed breakfast as we had to leave very early, but the staff had arranged continental breakfast for us. Will definitely return and stay longer.

Review 52:bathroom fan didn't work. didn't bother us too much as we only stayed 1 night.

Review 53:Lovely breakfast included in the price, very friendly staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. great value for money!

Review 54:Very noisy public bar! As we arrived steps to hotel opposite the green, were crowded with drinkers who were smokers - initial impression depressing - we had to weave our way thru to reception - no receptionist immediately to hand. No en suite facility.

Review 55:Good breakfast.

Review 56:We liked all aspects of this accommodation and can recommend it to others.

Review 57:Excellent location with nearby plenty of street parking. Generous proportions and good quality breakfast. A short distance to a very scenic and interesting riverbank walk. Nice comfortable beds.

Review 58:On-suite facilities small and limited (just a shower). Whole place could do with refurbishment, shower needs grout cleaning or replacing. Guests noisy when going to rooms or shared toilet/bathroom. But given the price the above are being picky as it was still good value.

Review 59:Set in a village with plenty of facilities and a wonderful location. Easy to reach and park Drinks at pub prices. Room a good size with most of what you needed. Proper man sized portions of food. Clean. Good value

Review 60:Rooms were a little dated but were clean and had everything you need

Review 61:Great location, great food, staff were friendly and room had everything you would expect

Review 62:had to share bathroom/ toilet with another room but to be fair we were told this when we booked but loved the price

Review 63:clean comfy beds and excellent friendly staff . fair bar prices and a fantastic open mic last night of the music festival in the newcastle house was fantastic free entertainment

Review 64:Noisy plumbing and could hear the people in the next room.

Review 65:The breakfast was delicious!!! Location is central to the town with lots of interesting small shops.

Review 66:Lovely village with everything you could want, great access to National Parks, Alnwick Castle, Bramburgh and Cragside is 5 minutes away. Excellent food particularly the included breakfast. Be realistic it's an old village Pub it's not 5 star but we loved it. We are already planning to return next spring. Sarah the owner is on hand for any queries.

Review 67:Room 6 was very very noisy until 1:30am! When we arrived 2 out of the 6 lights in the room didn't work which we could've overlooked but the noise was just too much. As we had booked this through booking.com there was no mention of the noise for our particular room (we booked the 'standard double room'. There was a warning for the 'double room' but nothing for ours). Best advice would be to call ahead and if they tell you you're staying in room 6 cancel the booking. Running the Great North Run on 2.5 hours sleep when you were in bed for 9 hours is less than ideal. Staff didn't try to make it up to us either

Review 68:If we'd be in any other room we would have rated this much better as it was a pleasant enough place

Review 69:only problem, and this is not the fault of the hotel, but the local church bells seemed to chime and mark time after midnight and throughout the night.

Review 70:great location, friendly staff, plentiful breakfasts, comfortable, clean beds. En-suite shower with nice fluffy white towels provided along with some toiletries. Coffee and tea making facilities with a selection of biscuits. All in all, excellent value for the money.

Review 71:Superb breakfast. Very convenient, free parking. Good value for money. Excellent free wi-fi options. Central location close to good walking options and Hadrian's wall.

Review 72:Friendly, helpful staff, comfortable and appealing accommodation and tasty breakfasts -what more could you want! Rothbury is a beautiful location too,

Review 73:Hotel overbooked online so said we couldn't stay but then they fit us in. Tried to charge us for the price including breakfast. Rooms smelled like paint.

Review 74:Location. Clean. Comfortable beds

Review 75:We were directly above the very busy bar. The music was incredibly loud and didn't stop until 1 in the morning so we didn't sleep well. If we had been further away from the bar it would have been excellent.

Review 76:Comfortable bed, excellent location, and a fab breakfast!

Review 77:all good even the weather was great.

Review 78:great location, lovely room.very friendly staff, great value. lots to see around the area, good food all local produce, looking forward to our next visit.
