Reviews for The Lodge On The Loch
Review 1:Only 2 staff to run the full hotel, nothing worked. Jacuzzi bath didn't work, speakers in the bathroom didn't work, half the bulbs in the room didn't switch on, one of the windows were broken, wall paper having of the wall in places. The wifi was terrible and didn't reach the rooms. The place could be absolutely amazing if it had a handyman go in and fix all the broken bits and bobs. We were in the 'terracotta room' and it was too much orange. The other rooms on the website looked gorgeous but we seemed to draw the short straw. Much needed improvement especially as it's quite expensive. Very small things that make a huge difference in the stay. Please fix them.
Review 2:The view from the room was breath taking and the location was great. Good was yummy and the breakfast was great. Staff were friendly.
Review 3:Room was very cold - electric heaters. Double room booked but two single beds put together which wasn't ideal. No shaver point or hairdryer in room.
Review 4:Staff were truly lovely, and couldn't have been more helpful. Nice cosy atmosphere in lounge area (with open fire). Dining room looked onto the Loch.
Review 5:Room was "cosy" and a bit tired but I believe there was a refurbishment due to take place a few weeks after we stayed.
Review 6:Great views and location, the common areas were really nice and comfortable with a real open fire. The food at the restaurant was excellent and the staff were attentive, friendly and very hard working. TV with DVD in the room a good feature and there was a selection of recent DVDs in the lounge to borrow.
Review 7:We received a lovely welcome from friendly, helpful staff. Our room was very comfortable, with a super king bed and fabulous views of the loch. Meals were amazing and an extra surprise was the Hogmanay entertainment - a piper and singer/guitarist with an added display of Spanish dancing by the owners and chef. A very hard working staff team.
Review 8:Our room was not what we expected, very basic and freezing, we had to ask for a heater but this was still not enough. I asked to be moved but they were full so sadly this could not happen. There were no lunch options and the bar didnt open till 3pm so we had no choice but to go into Fort William for food, luckily places were open on the 1st Jan, but this meant one of us had to drive. I though a 3pm check in was late especially since the weather was so bad we left early, when we arrived at the hotel there were no people anywhere and the lights were off, it was very unwelcoming. If it werent for the fact that the staff were nice and friendly and also it being NYE we wouldve not stayed.
Review 9:The staff and food were good
Review 10:Booked the room with spa bath... on arrival there was no spa bath, asked the receptionist who said i had to state this in the comments (which i did) and was also told the spa baths werent working anyway.... wasnt offered anything for the inconvienience!
Review 11:The view was lovely overlooking the loch
Review 12:Bathroom heating inadequate. I would rate this hotel "Very good", not "Excellent and certainly above "Good". Security a bit lacking during the day.
Review 13:Location wonderful. Rooms and public areas attractive. Food delicious
Review 14:Room had no shower and an extra pillow would have been nice
Review 15:the staff were really helpful and the food was as good as anything in a 5 star restaurant. Open fire was a lovely touch and nothing was to much trouble.
Review 16:The reception area and the resteraunt was very dull. We were encouraged to go out of the hotel rather than stay in because of the dated decor and smell in the reception place
Review 17:Location
Review 18:Room advertised had a gorgeous free standing bath. Room given had a standard bath most people have in their homes. I paid extra for the room with unique bath feature and was very unhappy by this false advertising. On asking to see the manager we were allocated a different room which had a nice feature bath but smaller bed and radiators not working. When you pay £125 per night you expect to get what you booked. Heavily dissatisfied.
Review 19:Staff helpful, lounge with open fire a treat.
Review 20:We had a fantastic view from our bedroom, probably one of the best view from an hotel room we've had. The weather was magnificent too so we feel very spoiled. Our doggy was well looked after with a very friendly staff, working hard making us feeling welcomed and comfortable with whisky in our hands in front of a fire. The restaurant has a good selection to make your tummy feel happy!
Review 21:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 22:The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was well appointed and had an excellent atmosphere. The food was beautifully prepared and served.
Review 23:We were a party of 5 and booked three rooms. The bathroom door lock was not working in one of the rooms, had to be pushed open. Shower was not hot enough in second room.
Review 24:The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is great, wonderful view of the Loch. As the weather was brilliant, we had beautiful photos of the Loch, it was just across the road from the hotel. Breakfast was very good, there was different options available for hot food, including hot food option for vegetarians. Loved the open fire in the sitting room.
Review 25:Everything! Great location, stunning view, and wonderful staff. The food in the restaurant was incredible; we ate breakfast and dinner there both days and couldn't fault a thing.
Review 26:There were only two members of staff during our stay; they did everything. This meant that service was lacking as both people were often busy serving food or dealing with other customers. Breakfast was not consistent. Some days good, some not! Rooms were dirty..walls etc were very stained and carpets were covered in hairs when we arrived. There was a damp smell In the bedroom. The hotel looked like in previous times it has been 4/5star...decor was beautiful(but was becoming shabby) It seems to be very over run and understaffed and this is apparent from the service and overall appearance of all areas of the hotel. The men who served were pleasant and polite, but always in a hurry. The bathroom was not clean and all areas of the room looked like they needed a thorough clean. I would not go back to this hotel. Wifi is advertised but is only available in the public areas. If too many people are using it, there is no access. Shame...this hotel has the potential to be beautiful, but it appears to be going down hill.
Review 27:The location was beautiful. The bath was fantastic and was real feature.
Review 28:Everything! The room was not as the pictures, it was damp, cramped and just horrible! It felt like we were in the cupboard. No radiators, only electric heating with wires hanging out, and switches unsafe. Toilet door hit your legs with on the toilet. Terrible.
Review 29:Absolutely nothing!
Review 30:The whole place is clean but in desperate need of modernisation. This hotel is charging a lot for an out of date hotel. It doesn't make you feel special and there seems to be a lot of corner cutting, cheap touches. The views are stunning of the loch but don't make up for the rest of the hotel. Very Disappointed.
Review 31:The price was expensive for what it was it would be better if the meal at night was tied into the room rate, Internet was down which I don't think was fixed for a while based on other reviews.
Review 32:The staff were very polite and helpful. Also the food was really good for dinner and breakfast. Our view over the loch was also really good.
Review 33:not many staff about, but everything 'happened' some common areas need redecoration etc.
Review 34:Boutique style bedroom, very clean and good condition, views from bedroom window, fabulous - well kept
Review 35:Filthy shower drain, inadequate lighting in bathroom, poor water heating. Tour bus made the lobby crowded and loud. Really poor staff attitude.
Review 36:Location. Nice beds and furnishings.
Review 37:Top of stairs no lift, Adequate value for money, but need a car to get into Fort William
Review 38:Staff very accommodating. Bathroom and view of Loch form room window no problem with free parking
Review 39:The hotel could obviously do with a little money spent on it but the views and the staff compensated for it.
Review 40:The staff. In particular the Hungarian guy. He was extremely helpful, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. I accidentally left my phone charger behind, he phoned to let me know and then promptly posted to me. Excellent service. The views from the hotel are stunning and the food excellent.
Review 41:Service was so bad that it was actually comical. They even have their own Manuel! I didn't see this as a negative but some will.
Review 42:Location and view are unbeatable. Food in the Restaurant was 5 star.
Review 43:We had a reservation for 2 rooms. One was nice and adequate to theprice. The other one (same rate) was horrible! Because the hotel wasfully booked, we couldn't switch to another room and because it wasthat late, no other hotel/guesthouse/BnB had any vacancies. Wesuffered from back pain because of the bed, the sink didn't work -the handle was loose, shower clogged, the door of the toilet can not beclosed if you are sitting on it, no space for putting the suitcase on,not even a chair. The heater was not working, so they put a mobile onein the already too small room, which seems like to be from the 80s! Allfacilities in that room were really poor! It felt like a storeroom whichthey temporarily transformed into a 'hotel room' to just earnmoney from in the high season. As we talked to the general manager, hisexcuse for the terrible condition was, that no one expect the owner -who is living in Singapur (yeah....) - is in charge of changing eitherroom condition or the appropriate room rate. They are just workingthere, so no one has the responbility! O_O sure! After a longdiscussion, he admit that this particular room (no 23) and there isapparently another one (no 13) are the most terrible and poor equippedones in the hotel and there were other guests who also did complainabout it. But, it is not possible to change the room condition or price- in my opinion they just don't want to! In many cases, if youdon't have a comparison to other rooms, most poeple will just acceptthe conditions or it is not possible to find anotherhotel/guesthouse by that time, so you have to stay there in eitherway. That's how the hotel takes benefit from that 2 particularrooms. So if you are getting room 13 or 23, run! If not, you are lucky, but I don't agree with this philosophy! I would not recommend thishotel to a friend! There are better guesthouses or BnB close by with anice Loch view as good as they have!
Review 44:Location, food
Review 45:The room we were given looked nothing like the picture on booking.com. The room was very outdated and in need of a good lick of paint. The room smelled of damp The room was advertised with having a bath and shower, however there was no shower hanging and you had to hold the shower piece over your head The furniture was very old and scruffy the window was broken and you could not open it, it was held together with a nail There was only one pillow each which were very thin had to ask for more I would definatly not rate the room as premium you are basically paying for view
Review 46:the view from the room was excellent The staff were friendly even though only two onsite Breakfast was good and room where we eat was more mordern
Review 47:Only had wi if downstairs.
Review 48:The friendly staff. Zsolt and zsombor went out of their way to ensure everything was ok for us. Nothing was too much trouble.
Review 49:Room had not been properly aired prior to our arrival. Bedding was inadequate, had to ask for extra pillows. Hot water took some time to flow through to our room due to location of our room in the Hotel.
Review 50:View of the Loch was excellent. Breakfast and dinner were great.
Review 51:Very poor facilities, ridiculously expensive for the quality of hotel, decor was awful, room was very small and uncomfortable, smelt really bad, we asked to move but the hotel staff told us we were unable to. Advertised as Wifi only in communal areas, should be advertised as no wifi as its that bad in the communal areas you can't use it anyway. The hotel had a very damp, old feel to it and was very eerie, I would have moved hotel completely if it wasn't for our young baby.
Review 52:staff were friendly,
Review 53:No full length mirror in room No Wifi in room Only staying one night, were very tired after climbing Ben Nevis so despite the hotel knowing we were checking out that morning the maid just walked into our room at 8am while we were asleep in bed. Very strange! Woke us up and was quite uncomfortable when you are in a state of undress.
Review 54:The 2 staff members we dealt with were excellent. The man serving us for dinner and the other waiter who also tended to us at reception. Very friendly and excellent service from them. Breakfast food and our dinner in the restaurant was delicious and good value.
Review 55:The room was lovely and had a fantastic view of the loch the windows that opened right up so in the morning we sat at the window with our coffee just admiring the view. We only saw 2 staff that seemed to work the whole day but they were lovely. I can't wait to go back to this hotel
Review 56:TV & Radio didn't work. Sink didn't drain - had to pull plug with fingernails. Bath but no bath gel - supplied shower gel but no shower. No info in room. Only two pillows. Only one coffee and two sugars - all rest decaf. Main room looked like it needed redecorating - far from "delux". Main window struggle to shut but lack of good seal meant much road noise. Waiter sneezed big time into his hands and carried on without washing them. When checking out proprietor asked about our stay and then commented about problems since they took over two years ago - so highlighting an awareness that things are not as good as they should be.
Review 57:The view - but its over sold
Review 58:Not a dislike per-se however the living room area was less functional than the bedroom so we spent most of our time there. If the living area was set up better we would've spent more time in it.
Review 59:It wasn't a room; it was an apartment. Very spacious indeed.
Review 60:The hotel is tired and dated - in need of a complete refurbishment. On arrival we were told that the Chef had taken the day (Sunday) off and that we could not have dinner in the hotel that evening. We were not fore warned about this and had to seek dinner else where. The staff were not very friendly. The hotel did not represent value for money.
Review 61:Excellent location
Review 62:Parts of the hotel could do with a refurbishment and there seems to be a lack of staff (though the few staff members there were very helpful). So much potential with this hotel, but currently not good value for money.
Review 63:The room was clean, the bed was big and the view was stunning. Nice to sit by the window with a drink and look out over the loch.
Review 64:Never after 6 attempts answered the phone. Over 24hour period. Although I was on holiday my staff needed to get me on landline due to signal problems. Ridiculously poor.
Review 65:Food
Review 66:No wifi in rooms and wifi in lounge was extremely slow or not working at all at times. No welcome information in room regarding restaurant menu / breakfast times etc.
Review 67:Stunning location, very quiet & peaceful. Beautiful room with jacuzzi bath.
Review 68:The wifi was only accessible in the public areas- however the quality of the wifi was poor. Even when we sat down in the lobby- the wifi cut in and out making it frustrating to get anything done online or connect with loved ones back home.
Review 69:The location was beautiful and the service was excellent. The dinner was wonderful. The room was very romantic, comfortable and clean. The soft colors and lush decor made you immediately feel like you were on a cloud. The atmosphere was quiet- great for a retreat. The staff was very helpful in regards to giving recommendations of activities to do in the area. All in all we enjoyed our experience here.
Review 70:Very disappointing place. Big difference between pictures and reality – about 20 years or so… There is quite busy road going just between hotel and like – carefully avoided on pictures. Hotel was almost empty (in the middle of season) and has atmosphere of abandon place.
Review 71:Lake view - really beautiful from room or restaurant windows.
Review 72:Very small double bed, deficient cleaning in the room, slow wi-fi and only working in the lobby, very expensive for the facilities provided, disappointing breakfast
Review 73:Location by the lake, staff, food at the restaurant
Review 74:Leon the Manager, is a great guy. He is so friendly and kind. The entire Staff is indreduble. It is indeed a good place to stay for a weekend. Great food, tasty food and most important the hospitality of the Hotel. This is my second time in there, and I'll be back next year. Location is excellent.
Review 75:attic room not at all good if your caustraphobic really bad decor ie wallpaper not been put up right . really shabby looking big bubbles etc wallpapered on the ceiling . bed and pillows a nightmare had to sleep on the floor bed so bad .other sitting room a waste of space be better if it was a family room with bunkbeds in etc kitchen just stuck to far from the other sitting room . could not get window open beside the bed.
Review 76:breakfast nice sitting room at bottom of bed nice view of the loch staff very nice .flowers nice added touch to the room .nice touch with bottled water and biscuits being left
Review 77:Funny smell in the room which stayed in our clothes, the shower floor consisted of roughly sawn timber which is very unhygienic, people above us weren't light on their feet which sounded like a herd of elephants,..
Review 78:Our cave was on the ground floor outside the building, which to be honest was a bonus but that's the only redeeming factor. We were waiting for Manuel to appear.
Review 79:No Internet other than in the lobby and that's scetchy at best. Pillows are the worst ever and a micro tv.
Review 80:Location is nice, as is the restaurant and food.
Review 81:- Hotel is old, but nice.
Review 82:+ Great view + Great location + Good value for money + Nice lounge + Great restaurant for dinner + Very rich breakfast + Bath in the room :) + We were upgraded for larger room with no extra charge
Review 83:The drainage in the shower was poor & you couldn't connect to wifi from your room.
Review 84:The location is beautiful, the rooms are very nice, clean & comfortable. The staff were excellent & very efficient, dinner was beautiful & breakfast was very good.
Review 85:The room and bathroom was not maintained or cleaned very well, the toilet seat was broken. The staff just did not seem interested. The food was poor quality, cheap ingredients. At £190.00 per night we expected much better.
Review 86:The location
Review 87:What me and my partner certainly did admire and deeply appreciate the most to no end was the incredibly superb and incomparable warm welcome we received the moment we arrived at this splendorous and incredibly cosy eye opening hotel , followed sooner or later by the totally unexpected yet ever so pleasantly surprising kind gift of many different provisions of various kinds for the pair of us ready for our forthcoming mountain climb which came around the following morning from when we arrived . The room that we were allocated was most definitely ever so remarkable and was made effortfully and professionally to feel as though it was a precise resemblance of someone's actual own home , which we were made to feel deeply serenaded and enriched with well being by . Domestic provisions in the room were readily available with a select few things practically already prepared for consumption as soon as we had come into the room and settled , and this in our opinion proved to be such a welcoming and ever so venerable gesture . Superb and astounding effort overall , we were both ever so hugely and resolutely impressed !!
Review 88:Service in restaurant was very slow probably because a large party had just arrived. Their food was different from ours and looked better.
Review 89:Room was spacious and comfortable. Public areas were very good.
Review 90:The Spa bath didn't work, the toilet seat was very loose and because the bed base was a bulky design it made the room quite cramped, with the room and grounds needing a bit of a makeover.
Review 91:Location and view were fantastic. The European Staff were great and tried very hard to make your stay a happy experience.
Review 92:On arrival we were told the chef had been involved in a motor accident that day so the kitchen was closed. not a good start we thought, but the gentleman who attended to us assured use he could rustle up something which he did even though we were just booked for B&B and it was most acceptable. The rooms are a little dated but seem but seem to fit the setting and were spotless. Although just booked for one night, thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would use this hotel again
Review 93:Decor a little tired in room but didn't detract from overall rating of stay. Pastries or croissants at breakfast would be nice & perhaps potato scone and/or haggis to make it more Scottish but was a decent offering without this.
Review 94:Junior suite was huge & worth the extra
Review 95:Pillows didn't match the quality of the bed. Inadequate supply of toiletries and tea making facilities. No wifi in rooms. TV had issues with signal.
Review 96:The bay window sitting area with lovely view. The bed was very comfy.
Review 97:Very few people staying so it felt empty at mealtimes. Bedroom (an upgrade) was in need of a refurb.
Review 98:Amiable staff, but still being trained. Really lovely food and well priced.
Review 99:Juniorsuite had no kitchenfacilities at all and was in the attic with partly a low ceiling without windows (and may stairs to get there) Wifi only in public area. And the restaurant was closed that night. So for dinner we had to go to the next hotel (which also offered cheaper rooms)
Review 100:In stead of junior suite we were offered a room with lakeview and two easy chairs, good bed, bathroom and separate toilet, which we liked much better.
Review 101:The dinner menu was slightly over priced and didn't have much variation. Also the room we were put in wasn't the room shown in the photos but still nice nonetheless.
Review 102:The bathroom was fantastic, great way to relax after a long day of travelling and hiking!
Review 103:We paid a huge price for a tiny / not clean room with a shower which wouldn't drain. The food was not good in the evening. The pictures are misleading. Unfortunately we thought we would be staying in a luxurious hotel for the price we paid. I can only assume we were put in the wrong room....
Review 104:The view.
Review 105:Hotel is in the process of being refurbished and some of the rooms and areas are waiting to be upgraded.
Review 106:Fantastic views of Loch Linnhie. Amaziningly helpful staff.
Review 107:Room did not match the room advertised and was a throw back from the eighties. The room did not look as if it had been decorated since the eighties.
Review 108:The location and views from the room.
Review 109:This hotel could be described as 'tired' and in real need of a full renovation, however the rooms are clean, spacious and well appointed. Dinner menu and having to book a table gives the impression of an upmarket restaurant, but the service including cutlery etc is second rate.
Review 110:Good Location, easy parking and efficient check in. Large spacious room with a superb view. Well priced and varied evening meal menu. Very good breakfast.
Review 111:Would have benefitted from WiFi throughout
Review 112:The view from the room was spectacular. Warm welcome from the owner and staff and breakfast was very good. Nice selection of meals in the restaurant - watch out for those Cloves, though in the Apple Eve's Pudding!!
Review 113:Everything about this hotel was just perfect for us!! We totally loved our night here and will always remember it as a highlight of our trip. Large comfortable room with a spa bath and amazing view from our bay window of a gorgeous snow-capped mountain. The staff, although seeming a little nervous and serious, were very accommodating and helpful. The seating areas were very grand and the restaurant was just wonderful and the service and food amazing!! Felt like 5-star!! Would love to stay here again.
Review 114:Basic room facilities. It was ok nothing wrong and the view compensated, but could just be so much better with some small changes. Staff housed on floor above our room so noisy both at around midnight and again at 7.30 (ends and starts of shifts). Decor was ok but simple (ikea wardrobe, cheap furniture, no bedside lighting). This place was actually nice, I wanted to like it more than I did but I was just disappointed with what might have been achieved had this really been thought through. Wifi only in reception.
Review 115:Amazing view. Very friendly, helpful staff. Good food though not excellent.
Review 116:- There seemed to be very few staff and so service was rather slow in the bar and in restaurant at breakfast - Room was rather small but can't complain for the price
Review 117:Location Value for money
Review 118:£4 for a flat lager.
Review 119:Very clean and inviting. Friendly staff and great food from the restaurant. Breakfast was very tasty and more than enough. We stayed in a smaller room and were very pleased, clean and comfortable with a decent view of the Loch. Would definitely stay again. Thank you.
Review 120:My cot bed kept collapsing. We stayed in a very strange attic room with old furnishings. The hotel was quiet we were the only ones there. The staff looked relieved when we left.
Review 121:Didn't bear well when guests were cooking food outside their room window using a camping stove. Also pint of 'Best' came in at £4 a time- very expensive! Paid extra for candles and mineral water only to be told this was a mistake by booking.com and they didn't come as advertised.
Review 122:Lovely view. Lovely bathroom
Review 123:No complaints at all.
Review 124:The staff are really lovely, nothing is any trouble for them. The food was delicious, not your standard hotel food, Scottish produce with a Med twist is how the menu puts it and they were right. Beautifully presented too. Lovely areas to sit with open fires and views of the loch and mountains.
Review 125:No wifi in rooms was a bit of a surprise. Breakfast should have been a bit better in my opinion.
Review 126:booked into "Monarch of Glen" and the views were truly amazing from the room. Saw the sun set and luckily the sky was clear so sat by the window to do a bit of star glazing :) Dinned in and ordered the Sea Bass which was very nice.
Review 127:The views were tranquil, the staff were more than accommodating, the hotel was spectacular. The suite we stayed in was absolutely stunning. We had a wonderful breakfast included and tea was delicious. Highly Recommended.
Review 128:Wifi only in public areas and a bit unreliable
Review 129:Welcoming, friendly, food top quality, very helpful staff, nice relaxing atmosphere, nice sitting areas, great views of loch n hills
Review 130:If has been two night would have upgraded to better room. Strong smell of dampness in main hallway
Review 131:Staff were very efficient. Room was clean . Very reasonable rate.
Review 132:The hotel itself was average. Luckily I got our stay on a deal but I wouldn't pay any more than what I did this time to stay there.
Review 133:The location was excellent. We had a room facing the loch and had an exquisite view.
Review 134:That the spa bath did not work and that the meal portions were very small especially the cooked breakfast
Review 135:The room was warm and comfortable and the hotel was clean and spacious.
Review 136:Bed was soft and uncomfortable. A bagpiper at 9pm was not exactly relaxing and a loud obnoxious idiot shouting and yelling until 1am kept us awake. To give the staff credit though they did tell him to be quiet a few times.
Review 137:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good.
Review 138:Peacefull location, amazing views, friendly and helpfull staff, excellent food served for dinner and breakfast.Surely we will be back to this place again
