Reviews for The City Hotel
Review 1:Felt that the breakfast times were odd and a too keenly adhered to. Missed breakfast on the Saturday, thinking that Saturday was part of the weekend. Silly me. 15 minutes late and was told I couldn't have breakfast despite non residents coming in and eating. Very strange.
Review 2:Good price. Friendly staff. Good location.
Review 3:Not applicable
Review 4:After arriving and getting to my room I noticed there was an issue with my window when I spoke with the girl on reception she changed me to another straight away. Very pleasant, couldnt apologise enough. There we no other dramas. My other room was spacious, pleasant to stay, bed was comfy. Didn't make breakfast, but that's because I'm too lazy to get up.
Review 5:It was a wet cold Wednesday night. I got back to hotel just around 10:15pm and it was in the process of being locked-up. Went elsewhere for a libration as just finished work. Shame!
Review 6:Friendly informal and knowledgeable staff who were excellent !
Review 7:Had to park car at the back of hotel , door locked so had to walk round main street to front entrance . Not something I'd do alone at 10:30pm usually .
Review 8:Clean room Good breakfast
Review 9:There were no curtains so the lights outside shone through, we were above the lounge which had karaoke until 12. Very noisy. The window was broken and would not close. There was no plug so I could not have a bath. Could not turn off the heating in the bathroom which was very hot. Another hotel across from the car park outside had lots of very noisy people hanging about outside around 1.00am which woke us up.
Review 10:The television was a good size to watch while in bed. I like to have a kettle in the room.
Review 11:I was working in Rosyth and left my wife and 4 year old son to enjoy the hotel and shop in the area. They thoroughly enjoyed the time regardless of me being at work. My wife said that the staff were very friendly and helpful, there was a lovely relaxing atmosphere which helped very much as she was by herself. Thank you for a lovely stay, we would definitely stay again.
Review 12:- No hot water for shower, plenty for a bath - Pathetic curtains for a bedroom, not dark enough - Stained carpet - For £60+ I would expect a proper bed, not a mattress sitting 6 inches away from the head board - No easy switch for bedside lights - Door handle loose and difficult to lock! - Not worth the money!!
Review 13:Staff were very friendly
Review 14:The room was too hot and it was a little noisy in the hallway at night.
Review 15:I was made to feel very welcomed without much fuss. The room was clean and tidy.
Review 16:Noted above
Review 17:Service provided by Reception staff was superb. My service experience in the restaurant was appalling. Waited over 1 hour for my meal and had 2 members of staff volunteer a reason for the delay, two completely different reasons given. I appreciate that things can go wrong but please be honest with Customers! The meal when it did arrive was mediocre and I had to ask for the chips to be changed as those served were lukewarm at best. Shame as Reception experience was very friendly and professional.
Review 18:Is it the best hotel in the world? No! But one can't have an Hilton in all the city of the world. Considering the city and the price, it seems to me that it is a very good choice if you have to stay in this city!
Review 19:We were in an "attic" bedroom which was extremely small and we had to bend to avoid hitting our heads on the ceiling when getting out of the bed , we are both under 5ft 5 ins. There was barely any room to walk around the bed. This booking was made last April so would have expected a better room, very disappointed with the lack of a lift, stairs were very narrow and steep.
Review 20:the food was very good, and the staff very helpful
Review 21:The only thing was no mirror above socket for hairdryer. Only mirror was in bathroom.
Review 22:Location perfect in middle of town. Carpark outside hotel. (pay until 1800 free on Sun) Ok Staff friendly and helpful. Lovely Breakfast and stay. Very clean. Bath in room with shower even though single room. Very good price.
Review 23:There was only 1 mirror and it was in the bathroom. Once we'd used the shower, it was steamed up so trying to put make-up on or do hair was a nightmare. The lighting was a bit dim so that didn't help.
Review 24:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room and en suite were very clean. Located in the main street, it's perfect for shopping, bars or a walk in Pittencrieff Park. Breakfast was lovely.
Review 25:Would like air conditioning or a fan as felt too hot at night and had to turn radiator off.
Review 26:Hotel was a central location with free parking spaces. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was a good size, clean and comfortable. On site restaurant convenient with a good choice of food on menu. Would stay again.
Review 27:Temperature in the room was difficult to control. The heating was very fierce. This didn't spoil my stay however.
Review 28:The staff were by the far best people I have come across in a hotel. Nothing as too much for them and they were very friendly and professional particularly the reception staff.
Review 29:The hotel was close to the shops, theatre and all amenities. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the meals were very good. All the staff were very pleasant.
Review 30:I was locked out of hotel after attending wedding reception having been told to use the bell for night porter. Had to bang on windows to get in as bell didn't work eventually got in with no apologies from staff.
Review 31:Room was comfortable.
Review 32:I didnt like the set up of the room. No headboard on the bed and it was up against the window. Consideration needs to be given regarding maybe a mirror in the main part of the room. I found that there was only a small mirror in the bathroom. Apart from that everything else fine.
Review 33:Good service, helpful staff.
Review 34:if i had to say anything it would be please put a mirror in room for women to put makeup in, there is a tiny one above my head height in bathroom, no use..
Review 35:the staff were friendly, the room was spotless, it catered for myself a grown-up!!! travelling with my pensioner parents..
Review 36:The room shown on the website was not what we were allocated and we had to request another room. This second one turned out to be the room shown on the web. Our room (and the first room shown) were over one of the bar areas which was hosting Karaoki on both night and was clearly audible until it shut off at midnight.
Review 37:The second room they showed us was much nicer than what we were originally allocated.
Review 38:Room had one small window, very poor natural daylight. Bad smell of sewage drains in bathroom. Was not advised prior to booking of any noisy Bar within hotel. Was advised on check in that a Karioke was being held on Sat and Sun evening and would go go to midnight. Could be noisy. Enquired whether room allocated would be subjected to noise from Karioke, was told No as room was at rear of hotel. This was not the case. Loud thumping music was heard to past midnight.
Review 39:The staff and Standard/Cleanliness of the room.
Review 40:I needed a cheap and cheerful single room in Dunfermline as I was attending social event there. I selected City Hotel due to price and location but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the service and accommodation. I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
Review 41:The female staff were very friendly and accommodating and helpful. I had a great wee night here and its local to everything in town, would,ve stayed longer but was on a Scottish tour on my motorbike. Clean affordable room at a nice wee place. Loved it thx..
Review 42:Parking could have been better i.e. more spaces.
Review 43:The staff at the Weavers restaurant (part of the City hotel) were very caring and helpful. I was really impressed.
Review 44:The staff didn't go above the very minimum required. We had extremely noisy people in the room beside us; clearly a group of lads all drinking in the one room; we complained and nothing was done. Didn't sleep between 3am-6am due to the noise, them banging, shouting out the window etc. Had asked for a quiet room so not happy about this.Breakfast was very dry. Have complained since my visit but no action has been taken.
Review 45:The location was good, very central. Bed comfy, room cleaned, good facilities in room.
Review 46:Gets a bit noisy as pub downstairs but we had executive suite so wasn't too bad nothing to complain about at all :)
Review 47:Fantastic location next to pittencrief park we are from Fife and u totally forget ur in Dunfermline lovely wee hotel nice atmosphere all round and lots wee bars and food around perfect wee resting place
Review 48:Not enough bright lighting in the room or bathroom. I found it needed 'brightening up'. No full length mirror.
Review 49:the fact that the hotel was central and was relatively quiet during the late evening/early morning. Breakfast had good variety of choice, (could have had more choice of fruit though)
Review 50:- on the first night wifi didn't work at all - shower in my room didn't work properly
Review 51:- localization - near to the shops, in the center of the town
Review 52:Good value hotel in a decent location with plenty of parking nearby. Lively Saturday night venue, but was not disturbed in a room on the top floor. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 53:Sloping roof in room 21 and steep stairs we are not so nimble pensioners. No full length mirror only small bathroom mirror.would ask for a different room next time.
Review 54:Central location friendly staff spotlessly clean food was deiicious excellent dinner and breakfast.
Review 55:We were told that the breakfast was arranged from 10-11.00 so we waited til 10 o`clock, and when we entered the restaurant, they said it was to late!!We`ve got the impression that they didn`t believe us when we said that it was what the receptionist had told us.However we got our breakfast at last. The person lying next to the window had to bow his head to avoid butting it the roof, every time he left the bed . To get to our room there were lots of stairs to carry our suitcases. There were no elevator
Review 56:Location was very good, except from some noise in the night and morning
Review 57:Wi-Fi connection in room was very poor to non-existent. Had to go the restaurant area to get a reception.
Review 58:Upgraded to a larger room, the booked room was up another flight of small stairs. With two large suitcases, near impossible.
Review 59:the security guy at the door at night was very ignorant and would not let me in with someone even though I offered to upgrade or pay extra forcing us to go to another hotel after I paid for the city.
Review 60:the staff on dayshift
Review 61:They had a very noisy karaoke night till 12 at night, of which we were informed upon arrival (not when booking). When we wanted to get the included breakfast at 9:15 AM we were informed that we were not able to get it after 9:00 - even though we coulnd't get to sleep till 0:30...
Review 62:Great location, right in the middle of the touristic center.
Review 63:Lovely bright spacious room and en suite and comfortable bed . Dinner very good portions maybe a little too large for us ! Breakfast excellent tasty and well cooked Staff pleasant and efficient Have stayed before and always been good .old fashioned
Review 64:Room quality, put in a attic room with a slope in roof line was awkward. Noise room as on main street, night time revellers, dustbin lorries, direct veiw in to flat across road, hotel front door being shut, steep and many stairs!!!! NO MIRROR, my wife found that very difficult to dry hair.
Review 65:The staff at breakfast and dinner were very nice and attentive. Location of hotel for easy transport links and amenities of dunfermline.
Review 66:The shower broke and would not turn off, when consulting the night porter we were met with incompetence and out right rudeness. Unwilling to help with zero pro-activeness in resolving the situation. The night porter could only demand "what do you want me to do about it?". He then explained they had no rooms available yet after disappearing for half an hour (at 1.30am) came back to relocate us to another room... All staff had a 'no can do' attitude, passing the buck with no resolution. In the morning when explaining the situation, with only a token apology we were informed 'we'll pass on the feedback'.
Review 67:It was clean.
Review 68:Decor dated carpets dated, shower room smells of sewerage every time we ran the water the smell was that bad I was sick, my brother in-laws room had same smell it was disgusting. And the noise from the dancing across the road was horrific the hotel windows are so old that you could hear everything if they put paying guests in these rooms directly facing a night club then at least put in double or triple glazing, only slept for two hours was horrible, there was a wedding held there that day and instead of the wedding guests having seperate area from hotel guests they were in bar along with us and they were falling all over the place I got a drink knocked right out my hand, glasses were being broke as wedding guests falling all over the place, had to go up to my room with the God auwful smell, will never go back there.
Review 69:Only that it was close to the theatre we were going too and close to shops
Review 70:Room 32 is a very small double room and the bed is not comfortable and Breakfast finnishing at 9am every day is ridiculous ......
Review 71:Helpfull/ friendly staff ,good location, quiet, food very good.
Review 72:The room was dirty and tired. There were net curtains!!! So not adequate for keeping light out, we were woken at 5am because of the light and seagulls. Then the staff were speaking loudly outside our bedroom window at 7 am!
Review 73:I loved the kareoke at the weekend and had the best night out, great size room for me on my own will for sure be comin back great staff very helpful and pleasant
Review 74:It was close to Pittencrief Park so that I could do the park run on Saturday morning, the castle etc so that I could visit and also the football ground in the afternoon so I can't complain
Review 75:Very difficult to park for free, all free spaces full. Noisy surroundings due to seagulls. Lack of blackout curtains in room. Breakfast very average
Review 76:Clean, friendly staff, value for money- aka you get what you pay for- in this case very average hotel.
Review 77:Room hot but couldn't alter the temperature. Room window overlooked a roof apex and another room nearby, gulls and pidgeons were very noisy all night
Review 78:Friendly helpful staff. Central location
Review 79:Bed was v v hard and had back ache in the am. Also room was not made up on the 3rd day. The bar where the car park entrance was closed at 21:30 and we had to walk with our cases all around the back of the hotel, and around the pub next door, to get to the front of the hotel to check in. Directions were not located on the locked door so we walked aimlessly carrying cases unnecessilary.
Review 80:Food was tasty
Review 81:It would have been more convenient to have had somewhere to put toiletries in the bathroom, i.e. a shelf.
Review 82:The staff were truly very helpful and friendly. Also, the breakfast was excellent.
Review 83:Paid for.executive room but size of room was single with double bed squashed in not acceptable.booked well in advance to get decent room
Review 84:The location is great
Review 85:Latecomers when front door is locked need to be over five feet tall if they want to reach the night bell or to carry a stool or box. The hotel hasn't many parking spaces and long-stay park is ten mins. walk. Short-stay immediately behind hotel and free late pm and overnight.
Review 86:A goodie, this one, extended pub style, even a small room well planned and liveable, breakfast outstanding. Anything in the 'didn't like' box is for information, not grouching.
Review 87:On the Saturday night there was a lot of noise from the nightclub on the other side of the car park. People were shouting, singing and laughing until 4am. I will be back to stay at this hotel, but next time I'll bring earplugs... just in case.
Review 88:The hotel was good value for money, a comfortable room and the food was very good, with plenty of choice and lots of vegetarian options. Excellent breakfast. The best of all was the fantastic staff. They were so helpful, pleasant and attentive.
Review 89:Breakfast was greasy and the karaoke as it was below our room
Review 90:We booked this hotel for its location our son was getting married down the glen so we were in walking distance we booked an executive room but was just a room there was no seat at mirror for doing my hair so was a bit of a pain having to stand
Review 91:I stayed here for one night whilst working locally. The room was to a high standard, the staff were very friendly and as I was checking out early before breakfast they even made me a packed lunch. I can't fault this hotel and would definitely choose to stay here again! You won't be disappointed!
Review 92:Room was very warm. Not sure why there was a gas cylinder on the roof (flat) outside my window.
Review 93:Good price but no discount offered when I said I would be gone before breakfast started
Review 94:People giving me the wrong direction to get to the Hotel
Review 95:Getting up having a shower and then going down stairs to a hearty breakfast. Plenty of car park space, see you next year
Review 96:Being allocated a twin room instead of a double. In 2015 we can send spaceships to Mars but cannot ensure correct room allocation. Main Street location = noisy binge drinkers but to be expected and aware before booking.
Review 97:Location and parking availability and a nice big breakfast.
Review 98:Keys must be left at reception if you leave the hotel which is fine; but collecting your key is annoying if the sole receptionist is busy booking other guests in or dealing with someone else. We were having a quiet drink and a chat in the bar after dinner and expected to be able to stay for a while; unfortunately there is a Karaoke machine in the bar which filled up very quickly with non residents to the point where there was standing room only; a quiet bar area would be nice.
Review 99:The Staff were very helpful and there were always lots of them; the room was very clean, well appointed and comfortable. the on site Restaurant was good and reasonably priced with a varied menu and breakfast was excellent.
Review 100:Had to keep asking for early access. They said they would contact me but did not.
Review 101:Handy to Dunfermline Abbey - had travelled for wedding. Wedding reception food good.
Review 102:The staff did not explain the hotels facilities and I had requested I would like food as I had arrived later between 8 and 9 o'clock nothing forthcoming
Review 103:The cost of the stay was very good. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were polite and the breakfast was good. I would recommend this for a cheap deal. It is in the centre of Dunfermline.
Review 104:There could have been more choice for breakfast. You used to get a choice of kippers or Arbroath smokies but they have been discontinued.
Review 105:It was centrally located, comfortable and very reasonably priced. Food was of a high standard and good value for money.
Review 106:Could do with double glazing updated as night club at the back across the car park weekend is noisy untill 03.00:hrs
Review 107:Menu with traditional fare professional staff from cleaners to managment
Review 108:Mattress was very very soft. Full bags of laundry were in the hall through out our stay. Am sure there could have been a storage facility they could have used. !!!!!!!
Review 109:Nice hotel. Meals were excellent.
Review 110:3 different WiFi's going on, bed wasn't against a wall so a clumsy person like me dreamt of falling off Ben Nevis during the night (this is nitpicking of course) not much against the place other than this
Review 111:The breakfast!! Lovely hearty Scottish breakfast with tattie scones, black pudding and haggis by default, no messing around with vegetarian options (the Scotts are carnivorous) my little room was perfect for a short business stay.
Review 112:Nothing bad I can think of.
Review 113:Dinner was great and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Quick service for a solo traveller appreciated. I was leaving before opening for breakfast so gave me tasty packed lunch instead.
Review 114:The only thing I was put off by was the Saturday night revellers outside on the street . This went on till 4 thirty in the morning . l do realise this is a town centre hotel and is nothing to do with the hotel itself
Review 115:Easy to find and park . friendly staff ,good room .
Review 116:Room cold, bathroom cold. Curtains only for decoration not functional. No window cover bathroom therefore bathroom very cold and bathroom door did not close over which made bedroom even colder. Slept with heating on all night and still wasn't that warm. Noisy with entertainment on till midnight could hear people speaking so loud felt like they were in my bathroom
Review 117:Breakfast very good and staff nice and helpful. Location good for anyone new to Dunfermline
Review 118:Nothing at all
Review 119:Didn't have to leave hotel in the sat night. Staff were lovely and very friendly. Place was spotless. Ate in hotel every meal as varied menu meant we didn't have to go anywhere else.
Review 120:Got to hotel at 11 pm after working a 13 hr day ,to a hug party going on ,went into 2nd bar and the beer was off , the shower didnt have much pressure , and the windows did not shut properly ,not a good nights sleep
Review 121:Value for money , pleasant staff
Review 122:Bed seemed as if it wasn't level, if I lent to the edge (bed was against the wall) I could almost slide out of the bed. Shower was not very powerful.
Review 123:Breakfast was very satisfatory.
Review 124:They could do a vegetarian cooked breakfast. They also took payment in 6 feb for a joking in April even though I booked through this website and had free cancellation offer
Review 125:My WiFi wasn't very good my shower wasn't very good but I was only there to sleep as I was on nightshift
Review 126:Staff very good and warm welcome breakfast excellent
Review 127:If I had to be picky: Shower pressure was poor WiFi is hit and miss Really picky: No papers at breakfast
Review 128:No complaints about the stay. Friendly and helpful staff, always happy to help. Clean and modern enough room.
Review 129:I cannot fault this wonderful hotel. The Service was second to none and even included a special request for a picture of a white cat in my room. Very warm and friendly staff and breakfast was great.
Review 130:Didn't like the first room we were given, and when we were offered another room, it cost us another £17 a night. Thought they could have offered us a "free upgrade". I also didn't like all the stairs to the second floor, with a very narrow stair case to the top.
Review 131:Liked the location and the dinner we had. Liked the karaoke on the Friday night. It was the same karaoke on the Saturday night, but it was way far too busy.
Review 132:Booked single room, bed not the most comfy but okay for 1 night. Flow in shower not great.
Review 133:Good access to town centre bars and restaurants. Free Wi-Fi worked well with good download speed. Staff polite and relaxed. Good breakfast.
Review 134:all positive
Review 135:The room while small was very well fitted out; everything looked new. Wi Fi was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was first class, no need for lunch after that !! Really excellent value for money.
