Reviews for The Bull's Head And Lodge

Review 1:Not having more time so as to sample the pub as we arrived late in the evening and left early next morning

Review 2:A very warm welcome from the staff at the lodge and restaurant

Review 3:Had to find reception staff in the Bull's Head. They supplied a thermos of milk for the tea service (good) the milk, however was well ripe (bad)

Review 4:Quiet location (despite the proximity to Manchester airport). Bull's Head restaurant is good value with interesting options (Welsh lamb)

Review 5:I'd like better ways to replenish milk and tea rather than finding a staff member.

Review 6:T his is a nice hotel , I've stayed a number of times. Very clean, nice modern rooms, pleasant staff.

Review 7:Clutching at straws, but the location if you want a night out in Hale isn't great (that said, we walked the 1.5 miles and got a taxi back which worked for us).

Review 8:Friendly staff, lovely rooms, fresh milk (!), free parking, good location. It's not what I'd call quaint but it was stylish and comfortable. We booked an extra night - speaks for itself!

Review 9:Food is awful in the restaurant, had to send the chips back because they were still hard, fish was very poor. Others had pies which were edible but not very good

Review 10:lovely comfortable rooms, good check in

Review 11:For an establishment that promotes itself as ideal for access to Manchester Airport they do not provide the basics such as in room clock or wake up call facility for early calls. Also as a B&B they did not have the option for an early breakfast for travellers with an early flight.

Review 12:The room was comfortable and clean and the location near the airport was good.

Review 13:Nothing.

Review 14:Staff at dinner were fantastic, really attentive and friendly. Room decor new and lovely, clean and comfortable. Pub itself beautifully refurbished. Food good, good choice of dishes at breakfast.

Review 15:Excellent place to stay, and the pub next door was exceptional. Also we could have parked our car there for only a few pounds per night. We would definitely stay again

Review 16:Nothing to report!

Review 17:The accommodation building is right next door to the well known Bulls Head with it's public bar and restaurant. The bedroom was well appointed and spacious. The ensuite bathroom had a walk-in shower. At the Bulls Head you'll find a wide selection of drinks and a great food menu. The staff are very welcoming and a friendly bunch. A taxi to central Manchester costs around £25 each way.

Review 18:2 bottles of water would have been better than just being given one But otherwise - fab

Review 19:Fabulous bedroom - modern, great bathroom , good bed and plenty of space

Review 20:Some of the menu in the pub expensive - staff overly familiar and disinterested when we said it was cold despite not being busy - no offer to heat section up.

Review 21:Great location and accommodation Great breakfast

Review 22:A modern stylish place to stay, friendly staff with a sense of humour.Reasonable price for such a quality room.Handy for food next door, which was excellent, we flew out from M/C airport the next morning one junction away.So it kickstarted our holiday in a very relaxed manner.Perfect

Review 23:Nothing bad to say at all.

Review 24:warmly welcoming staff both in the hotel and the adjacent pub. excellent room facilities ( they even give you fresh milk in a flask for drinks). Large bathroom with powerful shower. The food in the pub is excellent, very generous portions and great value for money. Choose this if you are having a stopover at Manchester Airport -it is only a 10 min drive and so much better than the soulless airport hotels

Review 25:The TV reception in the room wasn't good at all but we were moved to another room and the reception wasn't perfect but better.

Review 26:The room was lovely and the pub next door was fabulous.

Review 27:stay but don't eat

Review 28:The Accomodation is fabulous and staff welcoming however the pub and food are another matter. Staff unpleasant breakfast inedible disappointing as the standard of the accomodation is so good the same wS expected of the food / pub .

Review 29:5-10min wait as desk was unoccupied when we went to check out

Review 30:Staff were very helpful when we arrived as we were running late for an event they immediately booked us a taxi

Review 31:Breakfast was a little confusing and no side plates available for the pastries. Service a little slow. But enjoyable breakfast once it came.

Review 32:Nice pub and room.

Review 33:Liked everything about our stay.

Review 34:Friendliness and helpfulness of staff.Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms beautifully furnished and decorated. Quiet . Meals delicious.

Review 35:Well only 99.9% scored, nobody is perfect the soap in the shower didn`t do its job

Review 36:Friendly staff, extremely quiet rooms, the best steak I can remember, and great value for money,

Review 37:Noisy - drunken man in next room shouted most of the night, walls between rooms so thin, i may as well have been in the same room. Result one full night with no sleep, staff apologised

Review 38:Location, food & bar facilities. Breakfast was fab.

Review 39:nothing

Review 40:Bedroom had been refurbished and everything was nice and clean. Comfortable bed. Stayed for 1 night before flying to America. Close to the airport.

Review 41:Great little hotel very helpful friendly staff, situated in a nice location. Very convenient for the motorways and airport. Great food in the restaurant.

Review 42:Had to leave to catch plane before breakfast!!!!!!

Review 43:Ok, you pay a little more than at a Travelodge, but the standard of accommodation and other facilities far superior. That the rooms were so close to a "normal" pub, good as well. Food selection excellent and ambience first class

Review 44:The checkout time (see above)

Review 45:The rooms have been excellently refurbished. The staff were excellent. But the checkout time at 10.30am should be extended to 11am.

Review 46:The sound insulation in room 3 leaves a lot to be desired. We could hear conversations very clearly in the adjacent room.

Review 47:The location relative to Manchester airport. The choice and quality of the food.

Review 48:The whole pace was beautiful and amazing we were so relaxed before we were due to fly the following morning all the staff were so helpful and friendly the food in the restaurant was superb we had lunch and also dinner there the rooms were excellent as were the front desk staff getting us milk for the room and ordering a taxi for us to the airport the next morning faultless x

Review 49:mattress was a little hard for me,but everything in room was brand new and spotlessly clean.

Review 50:Airport is 10 minutes drive away(next junction up),meals in pub are excellent, pub has just had a major refurb, and had a lovely atmosphere even on a wednesday evening, location is in a very upmarket part of manchester, tram (metro)into manchester city centre is from altringham ,5 minutes by taxi ,then aprox 20 minutes by tram(metro)into piccadilly gardens.

Review 51:Asked for double bed but I had to push the two single beds together. The beds were pulled apart every time the room was made which was annoying but I'm being picky!! Everything else was brilliant.

Review 52:Room and shower were lovely. Excellent service from the staff. Pub food was great and having a Booths next door was also helpful.

Review 53:Clean and modern in a perfect location for Manchester airport. Good price, especially if you are leaving your car while away on holiday. The food in the pub is excellent.

Review 54:Parking right outside and free. Friendly receptionist and gave us fresh milk for hot drinks. Excellent wi-fi. Room was spotless and beautifully decorated. Very comfy bed.

Review 55:Fire door halfway down corridor on ground floor slightly noisy during the night as people arrived or left in the early hours. However, this didn't spoil our experience of the hotel.

Review 56:Friendly, helpfull staff. Nice pleasant modern room. Excellent bathroom. Good food and service next door at the pub/restaurant. Free parking

Review 57:Outstanding front desk staff welcomed us warmly and answered all our questions about local transportation, etc. Also, the Bull's Head Lodge pub next door is charming and the food is delicious! We would definitely stay here again. Clean, quiet lodging, with great staff!

Review 58:Ideal alternative to an airport hotel. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable with tea / coffee facilities.

Review 59:I was only sorry I didn't book in for more than one night.

Review 60:The room was very smartly appointed, and very comfortable. The pub/restaurant was very comfortable and upscale, with a wonderful food menu. Both the hotel and pub/ restaurant had been renovated in the past year, and no expense was spared in doing so.

Review 61:Although a great place would of been a lot better if the pub had been open, it was shut for a refurb but we wer'nt told be booking .com so very disappointed as the only reason I booked was because there was a pub.

Review 62:Very friendly, lovely hotel good place very clean.

Review 63:sorry that the pub and restaurant were closed for renovations - the website did not identify this on the booking !

Review 64:Great modern rooms excellent decor and services - wonderful staff!!!

Review 65:unfortunately we emailed prior to our visit to check if the ajoining pub was ready for use after its refurbishment and no one got back to us. On arrival we discovered sadly it wasnt ready! Also no one was there when we left early next morning to catch our flight hence we were not able to have milk to have a cup of tea/coffee

Review 66:nice location which was not far from the airport for our trip the following morning. lovely modern clean accomodation. good price

Review 67:We had ordered breakfast in advance but we we were not told that because of the refurbishment and staff training this was not available until we arrived

Review 68:Although the pub was closed due to staff training, our request to obtain drinks was acceded to without hesitation and we were made to feel very welcome by the manageress

Review 69:Was not informed that there was no food available from the next door pub. And no internet until the early morning. 'Double' bed was two singles pushed together.

Review 70:Adjoining pub was shut for refurbishment so no food or breakfast. This was not clearly informed on booking and does create issues when you are on a business trip. Next door cafe recommended for breakfast, but not open early enough on weekend to be of use.

Review 71:Pleasant staff. Comfortable, newly refurbished rooms. Quiet at night and good parking (although the pub is not open yet).

Review 72:bathroom. no shaving point. bath has no handles and difficult to get out of, particularly for elderly people. Lighting very poor. We were not informed prior to our stay that there would be no dining facilities.

Review 73:Staff very pleasant and helpful, car parking very handy to rooms

Review 74:We were disappointed that the actual pub was being refurbished and wasnt told about this.We has to travel by taxi to Altrincham for food and drink, when usually we pop in the next door, which is very convenient. We visit this place every year, and we are sure that when it is all refurbished, it will be brill.

Review 75:The Lodge room was lovely. clean and comfortable, just been refurbished.

Review 76:When I stayed the restaurant was closed. Breakfast was in a bag and really not good for the money.

Review 77:Nicely Furnished comfortable room. Lovely village location.

Review 78:When we arrived we were surprised to see that the adjoining pub restaurant was closed for renovation. The reception apologised and explained that they had asked Booking.com to flag this up on their booking page. I explained that we had booked the hotel so that we could enjoy an evening meal without driving back afterwards. The very helpful receptionist advised another pub restaurant similar to their own, phoned and booked us a table, called us a taxi and offered to pay out taxi both ways. Excellent Service and looking forward to visiting their refurbished bar restaurant

Review 79:Nobody advised that pub was closed for refurbishment so no breakfast option - only option at that time (pre 7.30) was to walk to local Costa! Am sure it will be back to normal in mid Sept when the refurb is completed.

Review 80:Great facilities in room - very smart and "modern". Good location adjacent to very nice pub.

Review 81:Early morning wake up call arranged. Did not happen. No food due to refurbishment of pub. We booked this so we could eat and drink without need to get taxis. Last night with my best friend flying back to Australia. Evening meal had to be rushed.

Review 82:Newly decorated and very clean. Friendly staff. Very handy for airport. Would like to try when food available.

Review 83:There was a refurbishment on going so no meals avalable that was not specified in add but that said staff were very helpful in pointing us to a exalant cafe

Review 84:Clean comfortable with very helpful staff

Review 85:Pillows awful bed on the hard side for us. A choice of pillows would be better. When booking it did not state the pub was closed for renovation so pretty poor Booking.com: The hotel did its best with a packed lunch type of continental breakfast and a cafe was also close at hand if you wanted more. Would recommend Victors in Hale for the American breakfast.

Review 86:Nice and clean and modern.

Review 87:We arrived at the hotel to find that the whole main building had been closed for over three weeks for major renovations so there were no restaurant or bar facilities. the bedroom wing was separate. The receptionist did offer to pay for a taxi to a restaurant but said we'd have to walk to a café up the road for breakfast

Review 88:Nothing. We refused to check in and had to find alternative accommodation at 6.45pm on a Friday evening, which was stressful and unwarranted.

Review 89:Ideal for an overnight stay prior to your flight, lovely area, superb rooms, great staff, when the Bulls Head re-opens September it will be the perfect character stay instead of the boring overpriced airport hotels. Taxi costs £10 to the airport, the staff arrange it all for you, parking the car costs £3 a night with the first night free, your even given fresh milk in a flask for your room on arrival, nice touch.

Review 90:The pub was closed; therefore, no food on premises. However, a very modern food market was close by which offered an excellent assortment of dinner selections.

Review 91:We loved everything about the room. Very clean and basic. Beautiful refurbished rooms that were exceedingly quiet. Great for the professional that needs solitude. On-site clerks were extremely helpful.

Review 92:We were not informed that the main building was closed for renovation. Therefore, no evening meal or breakfast other than a packed breakfast to eat in the room. Breakfast consisted of a small pre-packed croissant (rather doughy), a prepack of butter, 2 jams, a yoghurt, a carton of orange juice and an apple. Milk was provided in a small vacuum flask, but it was always off by the time it was needed to make an early morning cup of tea. To get fresh meant a trip down to reception.

Review 93:Lovely rooms, recently refurbished. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 94:Shower tray was a little shallow so the water did tend to shot over the top beyond the shower screen

Review 95:Love the new decor such a big change from when we were her last year

Review 96:Noise of guests who were heavy footed above room 1. Room was facing the car park & right next to the kitchen so you could hear food preps & smells. Pub & bedrooms are all updated in lovely interior designs - just the bathrooms need updating now to match.

Review 97:We liked our own entrance to the room. Lovely choices of soft furnishings & comfy bed. Fresh milk given free for tea/coffee in the room. Breakfast was cooked beautifully & plentiful.

Review 98:Hotel failed to advise that their restaurant was closed found out by chance. They were most surprised when we contacted them and reluctant to cancel booking

Review 99:Didn't actually stay.. See what we didn't like

Review 100:arrived to find pub closed for refurb nothing onb.com web site description dosent match property room overlooking bowling green never seen abowl in many year. only booked as food was available at pub or so we thought

Review 101:bed comfy

Review 102:Would have been nice to know in advance that the pub and restaurant was closed for refurbishment as we hadn't eaten purposely, had to get a taxi into the village

Review 103:Very clean. friendly and polite staff

Review 104:Renovations in the adjoining pub meant no evening food & beer and no cooked breakfast option. No close by decent dining options. Walk (no drink/drive for me) in to Hales was a 45 minute walk but there was sone good choices there.

Review 105:Room was excellent, modern & remodeled with large bathroom and big flat screen TV.

Review 106:Was disappointed when booking not told bar and restaurant closed for refurb. Nearest pub half hour walk. Great breakfast at the smithy cafe 2 min walk but very limited choice for evening meal venue.

Review 107:Hale lovely village good transport to nearby Altrincham.

Review 108:Despite having booked months ago and having received no warning, we arrived to find a building site at the pub, no evening meal available and an exorbitant continental breakfast in a brown paper bag.

Review 109:Proximity to Tatton Park for the RHS show.

Review 110:I booked The Bull's Head because I liked the facilities and convenience of the pub next door. On arriving after a gruelling journey from the south and finding the pub under renovation and no bar open that was very disappointing. However it did give us the opportunity of finding some excellent hostelries in the near region which you will have to compete with when we visit next year.

Review 111:Lack of food facilities - there was no restaurant or hot food facilities as the hotel was a shambles undergoing refurbishment. We would not have chosen this hotel if we had known about this state of affairs.

Review 112:Helpful staff

Review 113:Arrived not knowing that the bar and restaurant were closed. Chose the Bulls head because was close to airport and expected to spend our last night with our son before going to Australia having a nice meal a night cap and early to bed . Had to go to the village by taxi and find a restaurant ( they did pay for taxi ) so this spoilt our last night how ever it looked a lovely place and I'm sure after the refurbishment it will be as good as the rooms

Review 114:The rooms were excellent fresh and clean and modern. This is all we saw of the Bulls head and lodge

Review 115:We were not aware that the pub was shut for refurbishment and therefore had no means of getting dinner on site after a long drive and no breakfast. The mattress was very hard.

Review 116:Staff very friendly and helpful and the decor was very nice.

Review 117:Beware booking.com did not state that no food is available, only a continental breakfast served in your room, this is due to refurbishment. The hotel confirmed to me that Booking.com had been informed. The Smithy cafe 3 minute walk away serves a fabulous breakfast.

Review 118:The rooms are not very sound proofed. Lots of noise from departing customers very early in the morning. Staff directions into Hale village were vague!

Review 119:Clean and modern, a shame the pub was under renovation as this made eating a little challenging.

Review 120:No one at reception, no big deal though, all we did is phone the hotel, and they came in a few minutes...strange way to deal with customers, but didn't really bother us, but will some people for sure.

Review 121:Value for money...

Review 122:We wanted a hotel close to Manchester Airport where we could eat and sleep before an early flight. When we arrived the pub part was closed for refurbishment, so no food available. Booking.com never mentioned this so we had to get taxis to find food.

Review 123:Room was clean and spacious, and nice and quiet. Very convenient for airport, which was the purpose of our stay.

Review 124:Disappointed that we hadn't been warned that the pub was closed for refurbishment and that no food was available. Had to get taxi to find evening meal and breakfast was a 'pack up' arrangement. Should have been warned at time of booking.

Review 125:Location in relation to Manchester airport. Clean, tastefully decorated rooms with excellent bathroom facilities

Review 126:Found a dirty pair of knickers under the bed. When we told a member of staff she was very apologetic but didn't offer any compensation. Also there was no cooked breakfast available (maybe due to the building work being done), which wasn't made known before our stay.

Review 127:Hotel was nice and clean overall.

Review 128:Had stayed here in the past so knew the set up. Arrived at 2130 after driving from London gasping for a drink and the restaurant/bar had closed the previous week for renovation, so if you want an evening meal, a drink or breakfast then you are better not going till it re-opens, I think in September, then it will be 5 star all the way.

Review 129:The room was faultless, clean, modern, comfortable, Quiet

Review 130:The pub next door was under renovations, which we were really looking forward to going to.

Review 131:The room was a nice size and super clean, the bed was really comfortable. The bathroom and shower/tub were fabulous. The lodge itself had great character, nice quiet neighborhood just 5 min (or 10 pounds) away from Manchester Airport by cab. Great value for your money.

Review 132:Food in the attached restaurant was ok, not great and not much else around for meals out within walking distance.

Review 133:Lovely, newly refurbished, modern but cozy rooms! Lovely location, gorgeous village... Ideal alternative to an airport hotel for early morning flights. Reception staff really nice and helpful.

Review 134:Was not aware of refurbishment and therefore could get no evening meal or cooked breakfast which was inconvenient and didn't know the area

Review 135:Staff were friendly Room excellent

Review 136:It was a shame that there was no indication on the booking site page that the pub was being completely refurbished, so no food available on arrival. Breakfast was charged at £4.95 for a feeble paper bag with 1 croissant, a yoghurt and a cereal bar.

Review 137:The room was clean, modern and beautifully decorated. Wi-fi was easy to access and there was plenty of space and power sockets to work from. The staff at reception were friendly and accommodating.
