Reviews for Auld Mill House Hotel Bar and Restaurant

Review 1:Bathroom needs a little work and the corridor is very noisy as people passed along all night slamming doors.

Review 2:Price was ok. Bar area and restaurant look ok but no food during my stay.

Review 3:A lot of noise coming from corridor because of gap under door or just thin door. If you easy sleeper as me bring earplugs.

Review 4:Receptionist not talking too much what I like. Good beds, room was warm.

Review 5:Stayed in this lovely wee hotel as we were attending a wedding in the area. Got lost as we got off the train and the owner came to pick us up in his car.....very appreciated as it was raining heavily! Very accommodating staff, room comfortable, nicely decorated and clean. Would recommend.

Review 6:This was a gift for my brother in law and sister in law for the night of their wedding, the room was spacious and beautiful - the petals and chocolates on the bed was a lovely touch - thanks! Breakfast was fab! A little hidden gem is the Auld Mill Hotel! Thanks

Review 7:the road leading to the hotel could do with some repair work!!

Review 8:Easy Train & bus access so you don't have to take the car everywhere great for a relaxing day out. pleasant surroundings friendly staff, great breakfast.. would recommend

Review 9:No restaurant or bar attached to this old motel. None near the building which is in an odd, dark location behind some houses. Almost looked abandoned. Kind of scary. Room looked out 2ft to a concrete block wall, built into the side of a hill.

Review 10:I was tired, It was clean and small and comfortable.

Review 11:Bed lumps + springs. Tiny old chunky tv took ages to get it to work. Flimsy plastic shower. Had long walks to Asda each night for pasta salads for evening meal as nothing else nearby.

Review 12:Quiet. Breakfast. Garden.

Review 13:Breackfast

Review 14:5mins by walk from train station, if you go from Edinburhg side you need dto cross the stares and just follow the road down, turn left then left you will see it. Staffs are helpful

Review 15:We had no car so found the steep side lane access quite difficult to negotiate on foot especially as my wife has an injured foot. Room was spacious but another bedside table and lamp would have made a difference. Nice shower but very high and unable to adjust. More shelf room needed and another chair would have been helpful. Also very poor sound quality on the TV.

Review 16:The breakfast - plenty of everything and nicely cooked. Staff obliging and friendly. Bus stop on main road fairly close.

Review 17:1,No Wi-Fi. 2, bath room floor tiles loose. 3, hazmat style shower (metal box). 4, No Restaurant? Directed else where. 5. The TV was a 14inch tube style set with on digital box.(Poor signal could not watch a thing). I would class this as a B&B.

Review 18:Room was clean.

Review 19:The mirror in the toilet was too high to be much use and I'm 5ft 6 and could only see the top of my head but there was a second one in the room so wasn't to fussed and the shower was a bit rickety but did the job

Review 20:The over all look of the room was great clean and tidy had a kettle and tea and the massive bed was great too

Review 21:To say this hotel is "basic" is a gross understatement and to call it an "hotel" is somewhat of an overstatement. The free standing metal box that housed the shower was alarming to say the least. Book anywhere else !

Review 22:Leaving

Review 23:Might have just been our room but the toilet ran water for a long time after flush which wasn't great when going to the toilet in the night The bathroom facilities overall left something to be desired overall but only in that it could do with some tiles/ toilet seat replacing but it was all very clean and serviceable.

Review 24:The staff are very accommodating and friendly. It's in a great location for the train station, which was great for us as we wanted to stay somewhere relatively cheap and travel in by train to the fringe festival in Edinburgh (approx 35 mins)

Review 25:This place claimed - and still claims - to be a hotel and restaurant, but when we got there we were told that due to a change ofcircumstances they no longer do evening food. There was no apology -just a statement of fact. Surely it's not so difficult to keep thedescription up to date?

Review 26:No evening meal available on site and not a lot of good places nearby to eat. Nightly rate was high when we stayed. taking advantage of the Open Championship Golf at St Andrews maybe??

Review 27:Owner met us on arrival, very pleasant .

Review 28:Didn't look like picture on internet- seedy, dingy, run down, more like a cheap boarding house. Paint and wallpaper peeling, not very clean, disinterested staff, poor quality of furniture, old TV and set top box, thin walls through which every sound could be heard, noisy. Bathroom had grout missing, mildew, dirty floor.

Review 29:Comfortable bed

Review 30:Bit of a wait over payment whilst proprietor found booking detail within filing system but no real issue. Location down a hidden lane could be a problem . . . . got lucky when my partner spotted a small sign at the lane entrance otherwise I`d have driven on.

Review 31:Very comfortable Hotel, nice subtle furnishings, good parking.

Review 32:Breakfast on first morning was a little late, and I had to change my room after the first night. To be fair I was not charged for the breakfasts as compensation. TV sets are old.

Review 33:Quiet location, supermarket and pub serving evening meals nearby. Great breakfast, Ample parking space Friendly owner

Review 34:The outside is nothing like the picture on Booking.com It should go back to being white. Bar very low stocked. No meals being served

Review 35:Ideal location for Dunfermline.

Review 36:Bathroom needs some tlc in room 1 apart from that nothing else to say.

Review 37:Excellent location for motorway.Amenities within walking distance.Owner and staff were superb.Would recommend to friends.

Review 38:Nothing its a good Hotel

Review 39:Hotel was off a very busy road the Hotel and the settings was excellent as its very quite and inthe centre of the A9 Asdas also town centre our breakfast was brillaint and was made very welcome. Our rooms was great as we had a baby and a three year old

Review 40:There was no Restaurant just a bar the rooms were untidy ripped wallpaper gap under the floor to the main hall shower was like in a caravan in all 4 rooms

Review 41:not much

Review 42:The location is almost in Dunfermline city centre, yet this hotel is tucked away back from the road and feels like it could be in the middle of the countryside.

Review 43:Sound proofing of room was poor so noise from other guests could have been an issue, luckily we wanted an early start. No comfy chair in room.

Review 44:Comfy bed away from traffic noise.

Review 45:Loose bathroom tiles, loose toilet, bodged up shower, no mini fridge in room, noise travels really loudly due to gaps under door and very creaky floorboards outside room. Woke up several times during the night due to this, as well as noisy people in other rooms who seemed to be pacing back and forward all hours of the night. And the TV was older than me.

Review 46:The Beer garden in the sun, location and comfy beds.

Review 47:We arrived late and the staff were still waiting on us, offering refreshments. Breakfast was very enjoyable, plenty of tea and juice. Would highly recommend

Review 48:I felt the driveway was in poor state of repair. I am disabled and decided to go for a walk and the potholes were quit dangerous.

Review 49:I enjoyed the quiet location, clean fresh rooms and the breakfast was value for money.

Review 50:This is definitely not a corporate hotel and it was refreshing to be able to meet and talk to the owner and talk over local issues. I felt very much at home and would return.

Review 51:Nothing really- apart from the disappointment of being told meals were not served on an evening- I thought the name of the place suggested they might! It meant trailing out to a local place, but at least it wasn't far to go- just up the road- walking distance in good weather.

Review 52:Friendly staff, good off parking facilities, clean and comfortable room and en suite facilities, plenty of wall sockets for lap top, phone etc and a good price for working people.

Review 53:Was a struggle to watch the tiny tv screen with limited volume. Greatly disappointed with the shower which needs attention.

Review 54:cosy clean and quality bedding. Quiet location and staff not intrusive.

Review 55:Not staffed 24 hours, although there is a button to press in case of emergencies

Review 56:I arrived very late and the young girl that was on had to get out of bed. She didn't complain and got me checked in without a fuss. The room was immaculate and nicely presented. I had breakfast, but didn't have a cooked one so couldn't comment on that. The staff were all very pleasant and accommodating

Review 57:I believe the hotel has the description as bar and restaurant, but the restaurant is not as I expect. When I got there I was told that food has to be pre-ordered but to be fair they did make me a very nice meal

Review 58:My bedroom was as required all modern, recently decorated with a good size bed and nice bedding on. Excellent bedroom. Breakfast and evening meal was good and in the bar I had a couple of beers and watched the champions league. Good end to a long day

Review 59:it was a cosy hotel but never got much sleep due to other guests arguin thought maybe there would have been staff to apologise for all the drama the night before but there was no one at reception when we wer checking out so just left key poor service!

Review 60:hotel was clean and cosy

Review 61:Although the room was very clean & comfortable, the bathroom needed refurbishing. The TV could have done with being on the larger side as well.

Review 62:Excellent location with plenty of safe parking facilities. Very generous breakfast.

Review 63:It was not possible to have an evening meal unless you prebooked. This should not be classed as a restaurant. This is a great place to stay if you want to explore the area but not the place for you if travelling for business or on your own. There is a Harvester half a mile away which is good but you need to know if advance that you can't have an evening meal.

Review 64:Room was excellent.

Review 65:Some cracked tiles in the bathroom. Loo seat slightly loose.

Review 66:The relaxed atmosphere, comfy beds, helpful staff. Rooms beautifully cleaned and dressed daily. Nice bar area.

Review 67:Whole place needs a refurb. The tv in the room was the smallest I've ever seen and had a digibox to get channels. It was very difficult to watch it was located too far from bed

Review 68:I only stayed here as I was getting a flight from Edinburgh airport the following morning. I only wanted a bed to sleep in and that's what it is. Would stay again for same purpose but nothing more. Was clean and had en-suite

Review 69:Room very warm in spite of turning heating down . Very old, dated ensuite. Basic facilities

Review 70:Lovely rooms in original building, lovely breakfast and friendly staff

Review 71:Property is run down.Shower room antequatedbut everything worked. It is no longer a Restaurant. They will cook for residents

Review 72:Beds comfortable,No traffic noiseExcellent fresh could foodExcellent breakfastHelpful staffEasy parkingGreat value

Review 73:TV was rather high on the wall and there was no instruction book - that's a tiny quibble and wouldn't stop us staying there again.

Review 74:The breakfast provision was really good, would have been perfect if there had been ground coffee on offer, rather than powder.

Review 75:Location was difficult to find even though only just off the main road, would be helpful for better signage. The approach road is in a very poor state of repair. The room was clean but very dull and binoculars were needed to see the tiny TV perched up high on the wall. Overall this hotel needs some TLC

Review 76:Clean comfortable beds and good value for a one night stay.

Review 77:Rooms very noisy . Had to bang doors to close them and floorboards creaked so you heard everyone come and go. Not a welcoming , warm atmosphere and the owner wasn't particularly friendly . Very basic and overpriced !

Review 78:Creaking floors, stiff room doors to close, paper thin walls and a very noisy corridor when people are getting up early.

Review 79:Location of main road was good with no traffic noise.

Review 80:This is very nice place which is easy to access when travelling north. Staff and locals are very friendly. I enjoyed the music and the company in the bar. Folk singers meet here regularly. Accommodation is comfortable

Review 81:On booking.com it was advertised as hotel, bar and restaurant. They do not run the restaurant any longer but it was not a problem for us at all!

Review 82:The room (especially the bed) was very comfy and very clean. The family were so welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay special! A home from home. Definitely will stay there again and will recommend it to friends!

Review 83:friendly,accomodating staff.nice secure family feeling.opened up the bar at 10.45 pm to serve me.nice breakfast.perfect.only downside was secluded location for finding hotel, but feeling of security made up for that ! thank you, steven.

Review 84:No facilities for evening meals on either of my 2 nights Delay in breakfast on first day as no bread and waited 45 minutes on second day with no sign of any breakfast and all doors locked, so had to leave without breakfast

Review 85:Clean rooms

Review 86:Bathroom was poor, no towel rail, noisy extractor fan and the shower was like a caravan cubicle, very dissapointing.

Review 87:It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good but didn't realise we had to pay extra on top of the already high price.

Review 88:On arrival was given a warm welcome to this haven tucked away from the main road, but with access to all surrounding sights. Being within a short walking distance to the rail network you can forget your car and get into Edinburgh in comfort and without hassle. A great place to base yourselves without breaking the bank. Clean great breakfast, comfortable beds and more.

Review 89:TV sound was tinny. Bathroom shower could have had a ledge or holder for shower gel. Had to bend each time we needed to use it. There was a lot of light coming in from the bottom of the door at night. Maybe a strip could be used to block it out. The coffee was not aromatic enough for our taste.

Review 90:Friendly and accommodating staff. Comfortable room in very relaxing and quiet surroundings. Great location to get around various other parts of Scotland by train or bus.

Review 91:The size of the room was extremely restrictive for access to the bathroom.Disappointed in the lack of selection for vegetarians ended up with microwaved scrambled eggs which were most unpleasant, though everything else good.

Review 92:The location was good for us as we visited Mum in a nearby Nursing Home. Value for money. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The female member of staff at reception was extremely helpful in trying to find accommodation for our other 2 nights.

Review 93:We were not made aware of a late check out fee, it was added to our bill & had we not queried it we would never have known. When we questioned it we were simply told 'it's policy'. I strongly believe we should have been made aware of 'the policy' at check in

Review 94:Very clean room, not far from centre, quiet location

Review 95:friendly staff nice clean rooms

Review 96:Excellent stay

Review 97:The road in and out was very poor quality

Review 98:Very quiet

Review 99:Arrived late , did not see a soul. Lane very dark, felt unsafe

Review 100:Convenient

Review 101:Clean, warm, well-appointed, handy for public transport (train and bus).

Review 102:Draughty windows,tv no bbc /channel 4 etc

Review 103:very clean.

Review 104:it was quiet.room cleaned daily and fresh towels daily

Review 105:the drive way

Review 106:Nice warm welcome

Review 107:TV would not work properly and the bar is no longer available according to the management

Review 108:The rain .

Review 109:The location , it"s off the main road but still in the town , and very peaceful .

Review 110:The owner goes out of his way to make you feel welcome, and the breakfast is excellent value for money

Review 111:Lovely hotel with friendly staff. A pipe band were practicing in the bar it was nice entertainment for the evening.

Review 112:Lack of interest from staff

Review 113:Location

Review 114:No evening meals available
