Reviews for Turks Head Rothbury

Review 1:The poor welcome-I can only describe the welcome as chaotic, the bar manwas too busy finishing his conversation. Then struggled to find ourdetails. We then were told by a lady that our room wasn't availableas someone had forgot to put it in the book. (We found out at breakfastthat another couple also had the same experience and it seemed had outroom too!!). So we had to choose a different room. The room was ok butbed was 2 singles pushed together and uncomfortable. We chose to eatelsewhere as the initial first impressions put us off. We ate at theQueens Head where we had stayed before. The final straw was the coldcooked breakfast. The lady serving was very pleasant but sorry, had noidea how to serve a cooked breakfast. On 1st impressions it lookedreally good, but a taste of beans and mushroom revealed the everythingwas cold or luke warm apart from the sausage. The lady said itcouldn't be but the other couple behind us told us they had senttheir breakfast back too. It turned out that they tried to prepare 4breakfasts at the same time on cold plates. It came back hot butwasn't very nice as it was over cooked and dry. £80 was extortionatefor the experience and at best £50 max per night reflects this pub.

Review 2:The location

Review 3:Room a little cold on entry as no central heating, however the electric fire soon warmed it up.

Review 4:Location excellent, parked right outside front door. Room very clean . Bed comfortable. Breakfast very nice and very filling.

Review 5:National Trust Cragside House was closed.

Review 6:Very friendly and atentative to our needs. Village was dealing with storm Desmond that ruined the Christmas Market but the Turks Head and village kept us content.

Review 7:Wasn't too happy with the quality of the food, dining experience not good, had to wait a long time for food and half the menu not available.

Review 8:Staff very friendly and hospitable, always ready with a smile and happy to help if requested.

Review 9:The average price of rooms in Rothbury is around £80 as was Turk's Head

Review 10:Staff were welcoming. Room was comfortable, with a window overlooking the town. Great location. Breakfast was very good. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Review 11:WiFi was great in the main building but did not reach my outhouse room. Not an issue though.

Review 12:Friendly and helpful staff. Good food and ale. Spotless and comfortable room. Lovely crisp pressed white sheets. Peaceful village location with lots of shops and facilities. Quiet and undisturbed even though I stayed on a Friday evening.

Review 13:The noise of the drinkers until very late. Do not sleep in Patio room as its outside the main pub and just outside our door was where the smokers/ drinkers sat and one night the noise went on until 1-30am!!!!

Review 14:Food good but a hot plate would have been nice.

Review 15:The bed was too hard for us but we used to a waterbed.

Review 16:Peaceful,people very friendly. Lovely walks by side of the river. Scenic 30 minute walk to Craigside which was well worth seeing, The staff at Turks Head where very accommodating, helpful and pleasant.

Review 17:The bed was made during the day but the bins were not emptied, the cups, teaspoons and tray for teas/coffee were not cleaned. The bed was quite small for a double bed and quite soft.

Review 18:location was excellent, staff were very friendly and cheerful

Review 19:Nothing to write here.

Review 20:Friendly welcoming staff, always helpful. Although the bar area was busy, there was no disturbance upstairs in the bedroom. Good location, but parking on the street front can be a difficulty. Overall stay very good for exploring the area.

Review 21:We had a problem with the shower in that we couldn't adjust it, and when we turned it on, it just went over our heads in an arc and landed on the floor at the end of the bath. so we had a bath instead, it was no big deal. We thought maybe it had been fitted wrongly.

Review 22:The staff couldn't have done more to make our stay enjoyable. The Bed was really comfortable and the room was recently refurbished which was lovely. The breakfast was really good also.

Review 23:Central location in a beautiful village. A nice beer garden to sit and relax in. A huge room with settee facing lovely views of the fields beyond the river.

Review 24:Poor Check in, had to queue in the bar to get our room key. Needs a proper reception area, away from the bar. Food in bar very basic.

Review 25:Good location for an overnight stay on a long journey, big room, friendly staff.

Review 26:We booked the accommodation because it advertised on this site and others with a 4* rating, but in our opinion it was a long way short of this. Had we known this was a pub with rooms, we would not have booked this accommodation.

Review 27:As we wished to visit the Cragside Estate, the location was ideal.

Review 28:Nothing great place would stay again.

Review 29:A great stay!!! comfortable and clean. A special mention to Sharon who was a credit to the Turks Head so helpful and made us feel very welcome .Thanks again Sharon.

Review 30:Welcome on arrival ... directed to stand in a queue at the bar. Breakfast only until 9:30 on a Saturday morning. This is the leisure industry. Multi-adaptor on the bedroom for electrics, not great.

Review 31:Breakfast was tasty and well served. Room was very clean, bright and well appointed. Excellent en-suite facilities. Location was great, central within Rothbury, easy access to all areas.

Review 32:There was loud music on in the bar. I did go down at 11.15pm on a Friday and ask for it to be turned down (which it was). If you plan to be asleep before midnight then ask for one of the rooms away from the bar.

Review 33:Really nice big room (number 3). The staff were really friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast with hot and cold options.

Review 34:Nothing of note

Review 35:Excellent welcome and very friendly staff. Excellent location particularly for Cragside. Recently refurbished room, large and comfortable.

Review 36:The more mature staff were great: friendly and helpful. But the young ones seemed a bit clueless. Slow service in restaurant.

Review 37:Pleasant, very spacious bedroom. Quiet setting in spite of being in centre of village. Easy access to all sorts of interesting places. Unpretentious.

Review 38:Thought the price was a little excessive for the overall experience, compared to other hotels we use.

Review 39:Convenient location, suited our needs for the purpose of our visit

Review 40:Bad experience on the 3rd night, where the noise was dreadful, we were told that this should have been stopped at 10-30 but went on until 12-40, loud and very bad language, did not help as our room was right next to the smoking area on the ground level. We were given an apology when complained but we thought a nights refund would have been appropriate.

Review 41:Very friendly staff, location excellent. Fabulous room, very clean and newly decorated.

Review 42:No wifi in room and no phone signal in room. No opening windows in patio room in which we stayed. Kitchenette was quoted with fridge but only tea & coffee facilities were provided.

Review 43:Staff were very friendly

Review 44:Bathroom very tired and décor in need of tlc

Review 45:Nice food and staff, Very helpful allowed us to use a room to store items until we returned later in the day

Review 46:The detour caused by local authorities taking 3 years to repair a bridge partially isolating the pretty town. Ignore your Sat Nav and use a map....

Review 47:Food was excellent, rooms comfortable & staff friendly. Parking was fine and location was within shopping area of small town.

Review 48:Marks wall Marks carpet Drippy tap but bed cleanliness, staff, food cleared all this. At the end of the day bathroom clean bed comfortable clean

Review 49:Staff Food Location

Review 50:On arrival bar area which is tired put me off. Musty smell in corridor leading to rooms. Breakfast, while adequate was served on cold plate. Room could do with a few added bits { pictures etc} to make feal homely and in keeping with location.

Review 51:Location central to Rothbury. Room newly redecorated. Staff friendly.

Review 52:The staff were friendly and helpful. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and the location was great for our visit to Cragside and Alnwick Castle. Free parking right outside the door. The breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice and the food in the bar in the evening was good value for money.

Review 53:Recently stayed at the Turks Head and highly recommend the staff for their warm, friendly, dog welcome attitude. Awesome bed and room. Best breakfast; with haggis, bacon and pancakes. Lots of alternatives available.. Certainly something for all tastes. Turks Head goes to my top list of dog friendly accommodation. In addition, I never felt I was positioned at a dark corner table or made to feel a lesser traveller because I was on my own. Thank you Turks Head. A great holiday.

Review 54:Our room was in the beer garden which was extremely noisy at night. But all was well when the pub closed.

Review 55:Great location in a beautiful village. The food was perfect and the people very friendly. Would stay again

Review 56:The staff were so helpful and friendly. The vegetarian breakfast was fantastic. Had a nice dinner too. The room was clean and comfortable with a huge bathroom. Location on the High Street was just right for the town amenities.

Review 57:Our room was right above bar and was therefore quite noisey until late and bed was too small, mattress didn't fit frame. Also our tea and coffee making facilities did not get replenished when our room was made over so no milk or biscuits for second day

Review 58:We chose this location for the national trust properties on the doorstep so location was ideal

Review 59:Minor issue with the shower head, which needs replacing for a downward facing one.

Review 60:Lovely warm welcome by the staff, including Denise. Fantastic meals including a delicious cottage pie cooked by cheffette Claire :-) Thanks to Debbie for a great stay

Review 61:Staff are very friendly and helpful and the locals at the bAr very friendly, it was frosty outside but the roaring fire in the bar area was very warming, thanks for a lovely stay, see you next time.

Review 62:Room had no heating on when we arrived and it was cold. The heater in the bedroom did not appear to work properly but the fire in the lounge was excellent and had the place warm in no time. The very helpful staff provided us with another bedroom heater which was more than adequate.

Review 63:Breakfast was delicious and a very good selection. We stayed in the patio room with its own kitchen facilities and lounge. Nice change from a hotel room. The staff were all helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Turks Head is right in the centre of Rothbury which is a lovely village to visit.

Review 64:Booking.com had the wrong postcode so using the satnav were sent to the wrong address. The road into rothbury was closed witch we knew nothing about so had to drive a long way to find a way in

Review 65:We were on a very tight time schedule to get to a wedding. They checked us in quickly and let us get on with what we needed to do. They made sure we had the right keys to get back in to the Hotel on our return. Although one lady was still up and let us in. Very friendly atmosphere, friendly staff and very helpful. Thanks

Review 66:Rooms above a pub could be a bit noisy.

Review 67:Location near to Cragside. Nice food and pleasant and helpful hosts. Good value for money. Decent room well appointed and maintained.

Review 68:The WiFi was a poor signal, and unobtainable in the bedroom on my smartphone, fortunately l had a laptop with me that just managed to log on. The room was on the front of the building and suffered noise from parked cars and people leaving the Pub, however after closing time the area was very peaceful and l got a good sleep.

Review 69:As mentioned by other customers the staff were very friendly and approachable. The room itself was spacious and the furniture/bed very comfortable. The breakfast which was included in the price was cooked to order and tasty with a Northumbrian twist on the ingredients.

Review 70:Nothing

Review 71:I liked every bit of my stay perfect location, staff were brilliant , room was excellent I will definitely be going again , rothbury is an ideal location for exploring Northumberland.

Review 72:The Bathroom had plenty room and yet had no bath only a shower cubicle stuck in the corner (room 2) and yet Room 3 which we had stopped in previously had a beautiful full bathroom

Review 73:Staff were excellent. Bar staff were run off their feet but coped very well and always kept smiling

Review 74:The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. It is convenient for Coquetdale and Cragside. We would recommend the Turks Head and would make a return visit.

Review 75:The staff were very friendly and hard working. The rooms were newly decorated and the beds are comfortable. The breakfasts and dinners were great. Great fun all round.

Review 76:The bedroom could have been cleaner, the curtains weren't hung properly.

Review 77:Close to Crag Side, this was the purpose of our visit. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The meals were good value for money, the pub had a lovely outdoor area.

Review 78:We received an e.mail 2 days before arrival advising that on the night we were staying they had live music until 11.30 pm. This would have been OK. Sadly there was very loud recorded music until12.30am and loud noise until 1am when finally people left.

Review 79:The breakfast was nicely served and the only time we saw an attentive member of staff

Review 80:Staff were a delight and so were the locals in the bar - Extremely welcoming. Food pub grub of a very high standard at a very reasonable price..

Review 81:The Television poorly sited above the wardrobe, too high. Coffee at Breakfast - weak and lukewarm

Review 82:Breakfasts - the works! Bed - large and comfy Ensuite - spacious with good shower The staff - friendly and helpful

Review 83:Unfortunately, on our last night there was a malfunction with the fire alarm system which led to a sleepless night. However, the management refunded the cost of that nights stay without question. This was appreciated.

Review 84:The location was ideal and the staff were pleasant. Our rooms were spotlessly clean and spacious. Breakfast was very good.

Review 85:Only complaint was we were not informed in advance that live music was played, we had travelled all day and were very tired but found we could not sleep until after 11.30 after live music was finished

Review 86:Staff were all wonderful and the food was excellent value for money.Bedrooms were exceptionally clean as were bathroom.

Review 87:We were very late and because of fog we had got lost. However when we arrived we were provided with a warm welcome and an offer of drinks at the bar. When we were showed to our room and we had two single beds rather than a double; this was resolved within 5 minutes. We informed the staff that we would be leaving too early for breakfast and they insisted on making us a packed lunch which was delivered to our room.

Review 88:Not a lot, everything just fell into place - as it would on a well organised break. The only downside was possibly the diversion adding a few miles to our journey due to road works ! But this can't be helped.

Review 89:The friendliness of the staff at the Turks Head and the locals primarily. The countryside of the area is superb with wonderful scenery particularly the hills and the heather. The Cheviot Hills and the Simonside Hills are some of the best walking in England. My friends and myself all loved our break in Northumbria and the weather was superb.

Review 90:The only negative was the LOUD live music playing till 11pm,we were directly above and it was impossible to sleep.

Review 91:A last minute booking, hoped it would be ok and it was.A pleasant inn, lovely staff and charming village. The room was nice and comfortable and the bed was super. The food was excellent and the staff were very eager to please,we felt very comfortable.

Review 92:Advertised as having wifi but unable to get it in the room we were in which was not part of the main building, Room needed a bit of tlc (eg nasty damp mark on wall)

Review 93:location good breakfast friendly staff

Review 94:Our stay at The Turks Head was very enjoyable. The room we stayed in was lovely, very clean bathroom was fab. We had lovely views from our room. The food was great especially the breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

Review 95:Everything was great, except we came with a baby and we had a room above live concert. So check before booking, if you want calm sleep on fridays - look out for live performance.

Review 96:TV aerial had been disconnected outside room. Wi-Fi code was wrong & few staff knew the correct one. Wi-Fi signal poor everywhere, unless you signed up to an external provider (Cloud). Shouting clientele drinking outside 1am+

Review 97:Great location. Comfortable. Staff willing to start breakfast earlier (8.15). Good size room.

Review 98:Green light above door , lit the whole room up during the night, quite annoying , otherwise a lovely stay

Review 99:Nice location, good spacious room, large bathroom. Excellent staff who were more than helpful

Review 100:Described when booking as a 'cottage' but in reality 2 rooms several years overdue for refurbishment, especially the tiny shower room. Carpet in the main room badly stained, dralon settee outdated & uncomfortable, kitchenette (no cooker) units old & basic. Situated next to the smoking patio. If this were a 'cottage' it would rank as 1 star at best.

Review 101:Breakfast, staff friendliness, location, good beer

Review 102:this was a typical low key local pub we went for dinner to a pub up the road which offered a higher quality of choice and was much comfier to eat in .If you want a no frills stay with a nice breakfast this is ok, suggest they could get stair carpet cleaned it was very dirty didn't give a good impression going up to our room on arrival.also thought £80 was overpriced.

Review 103:staff very friendly and helpful, the location was nice and central, parking was not a problem and it was not noisy even though it was on a high street road, also the breakfast menu and actual breakfast was good. The room was adequate and clean but the worst four poster bed I have seen at least we had a laugh!

Review 104:One of our guests said the full breakfast was slightly greasy.

Review 105:The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly, helpful and very polite.

Review 106:Price too high for this standard of accommodation. Furthermore new carpets were being laid early morning whilst guests were still in bed!

Review 107:Good location in centre of village

Review 108:Sheets were damp, window closers were too high in roof ( garden room )

Review 109:Part of hotel with good food and a good local bar, 2 min drive fromCragside, numerous other bars and restaurants nearby and shops, plenty ofspace in garden room, nice shower.

Review 110:4 poster double bed was actually quite small, evening meals standard pub fare, and they'd run out of a couple of things.

Review 111:Great outside area, staff friendly, locked our bikes away.

Review 112:nothing. It was great.

Review 113:Everything, from the staff who were really helpful and seemed to really care (they went out of their way to help us with the plugs and gave us a space to be at a late time with my 9-year old son), to the room we were given, that was wide, clean, perfect! The breakfast was really good. They even had some little details that make your life easier, like an adaptor to continental Europe plugs.

Review 114:Three of us stayed for two nights in one of the garden / cottage rooms. It was clean & very comfortable and the food was lovely. The staff could not be more helpful either. Would definitely stay again.

Review 115:There was nothing we did not like about it and will certainly return again.

Review 116:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at all times and how they went out of their way to make a 5 and 3 year old very welcome. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them.

Review 117:No negatives at all.

Review 118:The staff couldn't do enough for us to make our 2 night stay really enjoyable. The garden room was well presented and had ample room for 2 adults and 3 teenage children. The bar food was all home made and reasonabley priced. The village and hotel comes well recommend.

Review 119:Warm friendly d good breakfast

Review 120:Friendly staff, good food, ideal location

Review 121:Friendly homely pub

Review 122:FOOD PRIVACY SLEEP GOOD YES

Review 123:Parking

Review 124:Everything you needed and food really nice

Review 125:Staff very welcoming and happy to help. Nice comfortable room with a good bathroom. Lovely breakfast.

Review 126:The location was good for us. Near to one or two places we wanted to visit.

Review 127:None

Review 128:Central location.

Review 129:noisy juke box and loud drunks early hours of morning,NO SLEEP.Just a Pub.

Review 130:very nice location,
