Reviews for The Oakhill Inn
Review 1:The only part that let the visit down was I booked a room expecting a bath and was disappointed to find a single shower in the room. The water also ran out while we were getting ready to go out so my partner ended up stood for 20 minutes covered in soap suds, comical for me but caused a delay to our evening. There was also no hot water in the morning
Review 2:The staff at the hotel were amazing, we were staying as going to a festival nearby and the staff allowed us to check in early they advised us not to worry about the check out time as they had no guests staying the next day, they also made sure that breakfast was available even after the normal allotted time! I can not fault the staff, the room was beautiful ( minus the bathroom and a few mishaps with no water), the food was amazing and the bar wasn't too expensive either!
Review 3:Bar area packed with rugby supporters. Husband unable to get to the toilets so had to go back to room! Service for dinner slow and had to ask several times for various things. en-suit shower room badly in need of an overhaul as damp on the walls.
Review 4:Very nice country pub feel, excellent food.
Review 5:As is always true with renovated buildings, there could be more electrial plugs.
Review 6:We were greeted well, and the staff was most helpful. The food was excellent.
Review 7:rooms not worth rate charged, first night we had to put a towel at the window to stop the draught and rattling. Did not like having to book exact time for breakfast and what we wanted the night before
Review 8:Good choice of food
Review 9:Great location, though parking was on the road Staff were friendly and accommodating We arrived at 9pm at the same time the kitchen closed :-( however the staff were kind enough to organise an excellent cheese board for us.
Review 10:This is not a hotel it is a dowdy pub with rooms. Is very noisy due to a main road running under the bedroom window.with HGV passing day and night.( not shown on ad photos) The breakfast was almost inedible.Pre cooked sausage my knife could hardly cut the skin..tomatoes.black pudding, disgusting mushrooms and toast, this seared on a griddle not in a toaster. Left most of it.Decor in need of attention. eg stair carpet coming loose.dangerous.
Review 11:Nothing. I could not believe the agency would have this on its books.
Review 12:The room was expensive for what was in the room. The room furniture was so old I don't think an antiques shop would take it. Bathroom had thick cobwebs and the bedroom carpet needed a good clean. Breakfast was meant to be included, we ordered breakfast for 8am, we waited until 8.20 and no sign of any one there. The phone was ringing while we waited for breakfast which no-one answered, so no-one appeared to be on site. We left without breakfast so that we could fit everything in that day. We had our dinner in the pub, 3 main meals, 3 desserts, 2 alcoholic drinks and 1 soft drink came to £75. The manageress who was serving us was spotted in the toilets and left without washing her hands!!!
Review 13:The list of things to like about this place is very short. The hot drink facilities in the room were passable. Because we were working on a budget and were trying to pack a lot into our time away having a TV with HDMI in the room was a godsend as it allowed us to relax in the room and watch Netflix from the laptop. The shower itself was very good.
Review 14:Being very picky the lights in the bedroom were romantic but poor.Too dim to read and a nightmare for makeup and hair. Food excellent but a limited menu. Wines mediocre.
Review 15:Very helpful staff. Great shower.
Review 16:Breakfast very over cooked used booking .com who gave wrong check in times which were not same as pub website very stressful start to our holiday but staff were very supportive of this matter
Review 17:Very good staff sorted a problem with booking promptly and fairly
Review 18:Beautiful place, idyllic inn with rooms. Travelled with a young child and inn very accommodating and welcoming. Ate in restaurant and meat was superb. Bathroom very clean and lovely bath with shower over it. Breakfast was delightful too, lovely place and would recommend.
Review 19:Breakfast was good but the bacon was all fat, would be improved by asking if you would prefer streaky or lean bacon. A choice in childrens meals would be good.
Review 20:Overall very good, really enjoyed our evening meal.
Review 21:The room would benefit from minor repairs ie tap was falling apart and missing light bulbs in lamps.
Review 22:Fabulous breakfast, nice to stay somewhere where you get good quality bedding and a comfortable bed, room was immaculate. We had a lovely stay.
Review 23:Beautiful old Inn. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and fresh (looked newly refurbished) and had all the facilities you would need inc wifi. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Great breakfast.
Review 24:We had a tiny room and they were not expecting a child even though i put that in my search and mentioned it. So a bed was squashed in. Not their fault. Something in the booking system.
Review 25:The people, the food, the place. All lovely.
Review 26:the staff were welcoming and attentive to even minor requests. the food inthe evening and at breakfast was of the highest standard and always served in a professional manner.
Review 27:We didn't mind the dogs at the Inn but hadn't realised it was dog friendly. Some people may not like it so perhaps it needs to be more obvious when booking.
Review 28:We had a lovely stay at the Oakhill Inn. The room was spotless and the roll top bath was a bonus. The bed was very comfortable. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We ate at the Inn both evenings and the food we had was excellent. Prices reasonable. Thank you for a lovely weekend.
Review 29:Front of property would benefit from tidying up ie weeding and hanging baskets.
Review 30:Relaxed atmosphere. Good menu and attentive staff. Comfortable room. Pleasant courtyard area. Good breakfast cooked to order.
Review 31:I liked the friendliness of the staff, the quirky bedroom, the huge bottle of water in our room, flowers in a vase and Wi-Fi in the bar area and a car park up the road.
Review 32:The room was cramp and there was a strange smell in the room (not reported as only a short stay). Also the hot tap moved so was unsure if it was actually turned off (poor facility checking). Shower area was dirty and there was mould on the sealant. The whole room was in need of a thorough cleaning and refurbishment.
Review 33:The quality of the food was excellent although it was overpriced. Prompt service when dinning there.
Review 34:The room was very pleasant but was beginning to look a little tired in a few places. The plug point for the kettle was really not in a convenient place. There is a car park, but it is a short walk from the pub.
Review 35:We came down from London for the antique fair at Shepton Mallet with our dog. We had a love stay at the Oakhill Inn. The staff were very welcoming and the food is worth the trip alone, as it was a very high standard and the triple-cooked chips were divine. There were also a few walks nearby for the dog.
Review 36:Nowhere to relax except in occasionally noisy bar. Had to grovel under dressing table to switch TV socket on at 4 way extension each evening (switched off by maid each morning!). Also had to use kettle on floor as lead was too short. Poor lighting in bedroom + no light at bathroom mirror.
Review 37:Super friendly and accommodating staff. Large bedroom with very comfortable, huge bed. Huge bathroom with deep roll-top bath (Room 1). Nice touches such as selection of books and fresh flowers in the bedroom. Nice old inn, full of character.
Review 38:Some small things were missed - bedside lamp and fan in bathroom not working. Kettle missing.
Review 39:The food was excellent - both dinner and breakfast. Location for Shepton Mallet - perfect. Room was clean.
Review 40:Nothing
Review 41:Cozy rooms, clean bathrooms with good showers, delicious filling breakfast of smoked salmon and eggs! Beautiful location with easy access to country walks. Lovely country pub.
Review 42:Staff were great they tended to leave you to get on which I quite liked and food was great, there a local guy called terry who was great to have a pint with ......very friendly.
Review 43:Noisy kitchen extractor fan at rear of property. Very minor complaint though on what was an overall great experience.

Review 49:The breakfast had chives over it and no sausages and the shower was freezing cold
Review 50:helpful staff, food available
Review 51:Food was excellent, staff were warm and friendly
Review 52:Accommodation is a bit basic (e.g. iron frame beds, sloping floors, heavy wood furniture.).
Review 53:Excellent food and real ales

Review 67:Nothing, it was all good and relaxing
Review 68:Decor, atmosphere and the food was really good and the portions were large
Review 69:Very expensive for glass of wine. Breakfast of poached smoked haddock & poached eggs very disappointing.

Review 79:Staff made us feel very welcome Location is nice Food was excellent
Review 80:Friendly staff Gorgeous rooms and facilities Lovely bar food Chef came in early in morning to do our breakfast outside the usual times
Review 81:Referring to Website - client options need to be expanded.
Review 82:We were two sisters who needed twin beds. Charming room was furnishedwith antiques. All conveniences. Definitely the best meal we had in uk!Our compliments to the chef!
Review 83:Our room was a bit small and dated and thought it was slightly overpriced for the facilities.
Review 84:Staff were friendly, pub atmosphere was nice and it was lovely that dogs were allowed in. Food was good - great breakfasts. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom large and shower had excellent pressure rather than the usual dribble! Despite my comments re dislikes about the Inn we would stay again and would recommend it.
Review 85:Staff friendly and helpful. Beds very comfortable and bedroom warm. Luxurious duvets, breakfasts good. Evening meal good. Would have preferred 2 chairs for sitting in twin room.
Review 86:The weather outside!
Review 87:Exceptional quality food with a good choice of wines and real ales, and where the restaurant was nicely planned, Quiet location, Real fire, comfortable room,
Review 88:Fresh milk arriving in the room when you do in a flask. No grotty plastic cartons, excellent food, good attention to detail, and friendly staff
Review 89:Small room and cold, had to put kettle on the floor so that the plug would reach, for £100 a night thought room was on the small size. Bed not as comfy as would like but that could just be me.
Review 90:Food fantstic, staff very welcoming restaurant and bar great. Breakfast service very good and fab breakfast.
Review 91:This pl;ace is a real find. Tucked away but within easy reach of lots of tourist spots. The food here is absolutely excellent. the breakfast is stunning with amazing choice - all sourced locally and cooked to order. I would urge you to try this place
Review 92:There was mould around the bath, no toiletries were included and therewas a paper lampshade in the bedroom which I wouldn't expect from a£100 per night room. Also the contiental breakfast was poor - just twopasties. I would expect some yoguart and fruit and ham and cheese to beavailable.
Review 93:The decoration in the room was nice and the service in the resturant wasgood. The food was enjoyable.
Review 94:Breakfast, narrow beds, distance from Shepton Mallet, small bathroom
Review 95:The 'old English pubness', bed linen, cleanliness of bed/bathroom, staff
Review 96:Very small ensuite. Road noise. They took the money for the room at the start of the stay not at the end when we paid for the bill. Booking.com shouldn't say that the card details will only be used to secure the reservation. They should say that the card details will be used for the room
Review 97:The staff were fab. They all worked very hard. Excellent customer service. Food excellent. Nice clientele. Nothing was too much. Beer is good and so was the Sour Dough. Room was spotless
Review 98:Cost was high for a pub with rooms. I had soup which was lukewarm, and the venison steak, although tasty was difficult to eat as it was so tough. I was unable to finish it.
Review 99:Very comfortable bed, and large bathroom with separate shower and bath. Food was reasonable quality, except for the 'didn't like comment'. My party enjoyed the meal and said the lamb was particularly nice.
Review 100:You can hear the sound from the room next door quite clearly, which unfortunately on one night had a very drunk person being sick for hours and hours from about 3am to 6 am.
Review 101:Great food, great drinks, cosy pub. Room 1 where we stayed looked fanatstic with a fireplace and nice cabinets and rolltop bath. Nice big bed with good pillows.
Review 102:Room we stayed in had nowhere to put things in the bathroom! Needed some hooks and a shelf or something.... Room looked out over the road so was a little noisy but was expected as hotel is right on the road and so didn't ruin the stay!
Review 103:Warm welcome, lovely comfortable room, very friendly chatty staff, AMAZING breakfast and lovely that we had the option to eat outside.
Review 104:No bath in 'bathroom' We were told on arrival at 4pm that people shouldn't arrive until 5pm in the week Poor cereal choice and small amount of conserves available at breakfast
Review 105:Comfortable bed with nice Egyptian cotton sheets Shower powerful Good cooked breakfast Clean Fresh flowers brought to our room was a nice touch
Review 106:bedroom furniture & fittings, although beds were comfortable lack of resident staff breakfast marmalade (!)
Review 107:atmosphere friendly staff, although overworked the food
Review 108:The room was very noisy as it was on the road junction. Although we were given fresh milk when we arrived it had gone off by the morning. The flush in the loo needs attention as it often took 2 or 3 flushes to clear.
Review 109:The food was excellent, original and good portions that were not too big! The chef was happy to make me porridge although it was not on the menu. I liked the homemade preserves and pastries.
Review 110:Service from staff was poor. Didn't like the room, it was very poor considering it was supposed to be 4 star.
Review 111:Breakfast was lovely
Review 112:The room was a little warm owing to the fireplace downstairs. Wifi coverage was poor
Review 113:Nice friendly staff and a peaceful atmosphere, good food.
Review 114:Very, very creaky floor to our room, in bathroom thankfully.
Review 115:Food was very good as was the beer! Helpful staff.
Review 116:A little bit noisy as adjacent to a main road
Review 117:Friendly staff. Excellent food. A busy hotel with a great atmosphere. Very popular with the locals.
Review 118:Excellent Food, lovely Staff and clean rooms!
Review 119:Great welcome, excellent food
Review 120:No reading lights in bedroom. Old furniture/furnishings for prices charged
Review 121:Food - chef excellent
Review 122:Nothing.
Review 123:Comfortable, friendly, good food, peaceful.
