Reviews for Pitfirrane Hotel

Review 1:The staff were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, better than some 5 star hotels where I have stayed. I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Review 2:Poor shower, drizzle only, had to seriously consider whether it could cope with washing my hair, also tired and damaged bedroom furniture. Staff left charge couldn't cope with a blown light bulb.

Review 3:Very nice breakfast,

Review 4:The service was very poor. Bar and restaurant staff although extremely friendly were very badly organised. It seemed to us that regular customers were looked after but new customers were near invisible. The party was also very badly organised. Guests who paid could not be seated while people who hadn't booked or paid got tables!

Review 5:The hotel was very nice, room recently refurbished.the hogmanay party was very good, excellent value for money. Live singer was brilliant. Food quality was excellent too.

Review 6:The room was very dated but I do understand they are currently renovating the building. I paid the same price as someone who had a recently renovated and modern room, so felt we should have been offered a reduced rate. The bathroom had recently been renovated, so that was nice. The room itself was clean. I also had to borrow an extension cable from reception as there wasn't any mirrors in the room itself to do my hair, so I had to run the extension in to the bathroom. Staff were very friendly.

Review 7:Staff were very friendly and we had an excellent meal in the restaurant before we went to a wedding at a nearby venue.

Review 8:Room security. Sauna conditions in the room, no response by management to a complaint in person and form and by email. Shocking sercice and would never recommend.

Review 9:Location

Review 10:The hotel was undergoing a MAJOR refurbishment. Scaffolding covered the outside and the main bar was just awful with trestle tables for you to sit at. Pillowa were dispicable.

Review 11:The food. It was absolutely superb!

Review 12:Room looked out onto rusting air duct that created a awful sound and the heat made room really uncomfortable. I was in room 6.

Review 13:Staff were friendly and helpful

Review 14:The room was growing mould on the ceiling, the room itself was unclean. The bed was very uncomfortable and creaked at every move! There was an iron shaped burn mark on the carpet.

Review 15:My room (no,8) was close to a noisy boiler on the roof which was only off from midnight to 6 am.

Review 16:The opportunity to have an evening meal since it was located in a village

Review 17:At breakfast on first morning after arrival staff didn't know we had checked in & thought we were a ' no show'.next day when my son arrived at hotel to visit us, receptionist told him we had checked out. This was a major disappointment to all of us since we are in the hotel at the time and still had another one night of our stay left.

Review 18:I was in room 12. Walls are very thin so heard everything from room 14; I had to get the night porter to enter his room at 0330 to turn the TV off. Noise from the bar kept me awake until 0300 on the next night. At breakfast the customer service was bad; the waitress couldn't get the basics right. I'd ask for brown toast and get white - that happened twice. My cooked breakfast was brought out before I'd finished my cereal. I'd tell her I didn't want tea or coffee then two minutes later she'd ask if I wanted tea or coffee. There was only two other tables being used so the room wasn't busy.

Review 19:Location, car park, price, restaurant in evening, wifi, bathroom, comfortable bed although I didn't get much sleep

Review 20:Hit and miss wi fi, very small room with small high windows, very warm thorughout hotel, not being able to take food or drink to room and due to location that limited your food choise considerably, very nosiy of a evening in corridors to rooms

Review 21:Location and comfy bed. Great breakfast and even provided a packed lunch when we needed to be out before Breakfast on the Sunday

Review 22:Furnishings a bit tired - could benefit from modernisation. The noise from the road outside at night was a little intrusive. There was scaffolding up when I stayed - I guess they are fixing this?

Review 23:Really attentive and friendly staff. Food above average in the restaurant and plenty of it. For the money, I can't complain. Good value.

Review 24:Staff seem to be totally disconnected from customers, room was too hot and the hotel was very noisy and hard to sleep in.

Review 25:Bar service was good, waitresses were attentive.

Review 26:noisy air conditioning unit outside window in the room allocated. Asked for a change of room. This was agreed, without problems.

Review 27:Friendly staff throughout.

Review 28:My room had holes in the wall, bathroom was bare plasterboard, could not lock the windows shut and I was next to a flat roof and fire escape so would have been easy to gain access. 1 of the 3 lights in my room worked. Couldn't get on the wifi the whole week I was there. Room had damp Showing through the wallpaper. Shower was very poor and was either freezing cold or hot enough to make a brew.

Review 29:Restaurant only thing good about the place.

Review 30:The matress was probably the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. Really let the place down.

Review 31:Stayed overnight en-route to The Open. Location was great. Less than an hour to the course, and the right side of the Forth Road Bridge.

Review 32:The coffee and milk was horrible The hotel interior was very poorly lit especially the breakfast room.

Review 33:the staff were very pleasant and helpful Parking was good Evening food was good

Review 34:Checkout a bit impersonal. Though no real need for attention, since booking fee paid for well in advance of stay, I would have found it more pleasant to have had return of key acknowledged by more than a backward glance and a nod at reception.

Review 35:Excellent location as base for touring about Fife with great parking facilities.

Review 36:The hotel is very old and worn. The shower never got hot, only Luke warm. The Hotel needs an update bad.

Review 37:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious.

Review 38:we were told on booking that only twin rooms were available and these happened to be the oldest old fashioned rooms that we had come across in years with torn wallpaper etc. There was actually several double rooms available.

Review 39:The fact that reception could upgrade us to a modern up to date room.

Review 40:Carpets and paintwork could benefit from a bit of upgrading. Ceiling in bathroom renewed but not painted.

Review 41:Firm comfortable bed with tidy clean room. Wifi worked well. Meals good.

Review 42:The big extractor far from 6am-11pm. No curtains just a net. Rooms 1-12 all much older. If they update the old part it would be lovely.

Review 43:The staff, breakfast, location and car park. The new part looked very nice rooms 14 plus

Review 44:Sorry to say the beds a little uncomfortable but apart from that the room was nice and clean.

Review 45:The service was excellent and very friendly. The food was fantastic and we really enjoyed our meals. 10 out of 10.

Review 46:DIY bathroom door not fixed, TV after a while being on lost all contrast & brightness and when arrived bedside lamp not working

Review 47:All staff were so helpful

Review 48:The room could have been better wallpaper hanging off.bathroom ceiling still needed painted. Room was to hot . but in fairness they are getting refurbished

Review 49:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Nothing was a problem.

Review 50:Nothing at all.

Review 51:Made very welcome on arrival & found we had been upgraded at no charge. Restaurant & bar explained to us. Food was excellent & piping hot.

Review 52:Had to wait45 min to get breakfast very short staffed . Not acceptable.we got told that someone went home ill so no one else could have helped to clear tables, make tea and coffee!!!!!!!

Review 53:The only thing I could fault was the lack of wifi in the bedroom, other than that a most enjoyable stay

Review 54:We spend a lot of weekends a way but the best thing I liked was the bed, really comfortable which I found made my stay enjoyable, also the breakfast was first rate

Review 55:The facilities were poor, the decor is shabby and the bed was very uncomfortable. The room was small and very basic.

Review 56:The staff were helpful and friendly

Review 57:Very very very noisy place. Prepare some earplugs if you must live there. The rooms are next to main street and very noisy because cars keep running through and the pub downstairs also creats noises. And don't expect them to change a quieter room for you.

Review 58:They have very good restaurant downstairs and the breakfast was great with scottish features.

Review 59:I am a female solo traveller. My room was a disgrace, very shabby, ancient furniture, dirty wallpaper. There was not even a mirror in theroom. Small bathroom mirror but mirror light and 1 ceiling light broken.Had to use mirror in public toilet downstairs close to bar after tryingfor 2 hours to get a mirror provided or use of another room. Shower headwas blocked so weak water flow. Temperature either scalding or cold, with nothing in between. Bed may well have come from a reclamation yardand springs noisy every time I moved. In fairness there are refurbishedrooms which were not being used and hotel was very quiet. Had I beenoffered that in the afternoon when I arrived I would have beendelighted. This was a very stressful experience as I was preparing toattend a formal function and the experience just seemed to worsen by theminute. The night porter was excellent when I returned after midnight. An alternative room was offered at that point but it was too late bythen. Had I known about the poor bed I would have taken up the offer, even at such a late hour. I had hoped to make this a regular stoppingpoint but only if guaranteed a refurbished room. This could be anexcellent venue if problems are addressed. I am hopeful that the ownerwill make contact as my concerns were all noted in my customerquestionnaire and all were totally justified. I very rarely complainabout anything but I do not believe I got what I paid for and itcertainly did not match the photos on the website. Sorry!

Review 60:The staff were very courteous and friendly and saved this from being anappalling experience.

Review 61:The breakfast was delicious. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Fantastic shower, and very good television in the room. It made for a very comfortable stay.

Review 62:Hotel was very obviously quiet but allocated a old room when half had been refurbished. Regardless of price paid should always give the best room available in my opinion. Room was quite cramped for 2 - more like a large single than a double. Only high level windows. Wallpaper peeling. Cooked breakfast very good but only other choice cereal or yoghurt.

Review 63:Comfortable bed, clean, nice staff, good steak pie.

Review 64:Asked for a double room but was called to say they only had twin left as bathroom was broken. Got there and twin room bathroom light didn't work. Reported this and on returning for 2nd night it still wasn't fixed.

Review 65:Good Food, Quiet room

Review 66:Room was a bit tired. High windows so you can't see out. No hairdryer. Light above mirror in bathroom did not work. Bedding & towels left on corridor floor outside room prior to us vacating the room. Not very hygienic. A trolley would be better.

Review 67:Easy to park. Location was good for Forester Park wedding venue.

Review 68:A little bit out from Dunfermline so private transport a must have.

Review 69:Very comfortable bed. Room size and facilities were good. Food and bar was good quality and prices. Good road connections for using this as a hub.

Review 70:Be aware that in a few rooms you might experience some hotel machinery noise during the night. I requested a quiet room for the last visit, which was accommodated for us.

Review 71:As fairly regular visitors to Dunfermline we were looking for somewhere comfortable and good value for money. The Pitfirrane Hotel certainly exceeded our expectations on our latest visit, and we will be using this. The Scottish breakfast is the highlight of our stays, as I am a lover of haggis.

Review 72:The beds! 1st room we were allocated had 2 single child size beds being passed off as a"twin" room! 2nd room although we had to pay £10 more was a good size but could have had a more comfortable bed and even been a Kingsize one. For an "Executive" room it was disappointing comfort wise and the bathroom needed attention - it does not quite match the decor of the bedroom and loose ceiling tiles and paintwork need attention (room 106)

Review 73:Nice brightly lit room (106)

Review 74:Rooms and public areas were far too warm. A delicious breakfast was ruined by the fact you were sweating half way through it due to unbearable heat

Review 75:Nice room, plenty of parking, excellent breakfast, helpful and courteous staff.

Review 76:Forbidden to take own food or alcohol into bedroom and threatened with a£50 deep cleansing charge if this condition breeched. Never experiencedthis in any hotel before. Pillows too soft. Bed uncomfortable. Soundproofing poor. Bedroom decor poor badly needing upgrading

Review 77:Location Friendly Staff

Review 78:Noise, lack of comfort, no hairdryer or mirror in the room, shower was freezing cold, loud bar noises, loud guests and lack of customer service- POOR!!!!

Review 79:Food was average at best.

Review 80:Shower took a wee while to heat up. Receptionist was too helpful - helping everyone else! Fair distance to a major supermarket (cheaper petrol).

Review 81:Private car park. Helpful receptionists. Local information leaflets. Wi-Fi available. Large TV screen.

Review 82:The room was right above the busy main road but no effort at noise reduction had been made. The bed should have been replaced 20 years ago. The window faced east - but the curtains were cheap and nasty and did nothing to keep out the light in the early morning. I complained to reception who said I would have to take it up with management the following week. Management ignored my complaint. I stay in hundreds of hotels every year. I have never written a review before. This was simply the worst hotel night I have ever had.

Review 83:Breakfast was good and reception staff were cheerful

Review 84:Room price increased during Ryder Cup period. Bar too small when hotel busy.

Review 85:Packed Lunch offered as we had to leave too early in the morning and missed breakfast. Decor of new wing of bedrooms very good.

Review 86:Towels were small so take your own!

Review 87:We were staying during the Ryder Cup so were up and away before b'fast, the chef made us up a packed lunch instead at no extra cost (this was volunteered by them). Also had room upgraded on arrival. Food was fantastic, bar very friendly, local pub style rather than stuffy hotel. They also didn't inflate their prices at a time when they easily could have. Would definately go back!

Review 88:People next door were rowing and playing loud music late at night until someone banged on wall to tell them to be quiet. Very thin walls, could hear everything.

Review 89:Food Staff friendly Rooms warm Only stayed 2 nights but room was cleaned and fresh towels supplied

Review 90:Shabby decor throughout, especially shower room. Noisy clientelle

Review 91:Excellent and helpful staff, especially hardworking but cheerful Jade. Excellent car park security. Good food, generous portions and reasonably priced.

Review 92:I was awoken very early by the noise of what I believe was the kitchen air conditioning system which was only a few yards from my bedroom window. I was disappointed with the shower which was just slightly more than a trickle. The room I occupied was one of the recently refurbished ones, the wallpapering looked as if had been done by a child.

Review 93:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The evening meal we had was very good and value for money. Breakfast choices were excellent and nicely presented.

Review 94:Room was dark and depressing and not very clean. We waited nearly 15 mins at the bar for a drink, it would appear that locals got priority even though we were there before they arrived. We certainly wont be going to this hotel again.

Review 95:Staff were friendly and helpful. The location was convenient for the town centre.

Review 96:The plumbing screamed when you turned the shower on. The rooms could do with a bit of sound proofing as you can hear the people in the next room and in the hallway.

Review 97:Very clean, the Staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 98:Non refurbished room was tired with a damp wall and even damp picture, shower room not quite finished. Threadbare stair case carpet looking dangerous in places while carrying case up it. It would nice if when the room is refurbished to add a desk to work at.

Review 99:Helpful staff, great food. Slept well. Free parking.

Review 100:The beds were okay for comfort, but we're used to memory foam so we could feel the difference. The bedroom on the ground floor was more luxurious than the bedroom on the floor above. Additionally, it was awkward to sit up in bed to watch the television/read in the room upstairs because the bed was positioned under the window and there was no headboard. We paid the same price for both rooms furthermore.

Review 101:The staff were very polite and helpful and we were made to feel welcome. We had forgotten to book our evening meal, but they made room for us at the restaurant. It was nice to stay at a hotel with a pub restaurant attached. The corridor leading to our room was very nicely lit and decorated - it had a luxury feel. There was a good-sized parking area. The location of the hotel was superb and very close to the beautiful town of Dunfermline. The village the hotel was in was very charming too. It was also very convenient for driving into Glasgow to attend the Commonwealth Games.

Review 102:Had to wait ages to be served at the bar even when some staff decided to go to clear/clean tables when several were waiting to be served with drinks.

Review 103:Location, friendly. Food was good.

Review 104:Photos on the Booking.com and Hotel is totally different. They do not give you what they show on Booking.com. If you complain about it, they say "That this is not our problem, this is booking.com problem. You must complain about it to booking.com." Very unconfortible Beds, very dirty rooms, very bad condition rooms and bathrooms. You can not find place in the room to put your bag because room is very very small. They did not helped us and we stayed at hotel becuase we can not cancel reservation. I stay arround 40 Hotel/year. I m travelling 14 years. This hotel was the worst one in my business life. Scotland must worn them. This is very bad advertising for the country.

Review 105:Nothing to like...

Review 106:One annoying thing was the cost of a double room was £55 and £75 for executive room but what was the difference? Also we lost the electricity to the room and was unable to wash or shower as the room was in darkness but wasn't compensated

Review 107:The room was clean and nicely equipped. Good sized bathroom, everything you needed. Very good staff.

Review 108:Walls were dirty. Telivision on wall round a corner. Bus stop outside window so people on top deck could see in window. Shower took at least 30 minutes for warm water to come through.

Review 109:Full Breakfast.

Review 110:Beds are very hard and our room was hot, with a very bright car-park light just outside the window. Toilet got blocked after first night, unable to fix on a Sunday so we were moved to another room - fair enough, but bedside lamp didn't work, light switches didn't work and the overwhelming scent or air freshener was sickening in the corridors and the rooms. Breakfast was frenetic, not enough tables for all the guests and the cooked breakfast seemed all to be deep fried, eggs, bacon and mushrooms all dripping with the same oil. Didn't bother with breakfast on second day, just got out of there. I've stayed in much nicer places for much less money.

Review 111:The staff were really friendly and helpful. Dinner was tasty, although portions were much too large.

Review 112:The hotel is a little dated, but that does not take away from the fantastic service provided.

Review 113:The staff in this hotel are very good. They are from all age ranges, each and everyone of them, are a credit to the hotel.

Review 114:Wallpaper had water stains, older carpet and furniture.

Review 115:The staff was supurb! The room could definitely use some updating/ repairs. However, it was plenty comfortable and is an easy 20 more mute drive to the Edinburgh airport.

Review 116:Expensive for such a small bedroom with view over carpark; an offer to help with bags up stairs would have been appreciated

Review 117:restaurant was excellent - wide ranging menu and good value for money. Breakfast also great. lovely bathroom - with bath; reasonably quiet bedroom

Review 118:Dirty rooms Carpet ripped on stairs Breakfast Dust on window ledge Tile grout in bathroom minging Price £75 for the room I got is shocking at the very least it should of been clean The whole place was crawling even if I paid £20 a night I wouldn't if been happy

Review 119:Nothing

Review 120:The time between checking in and checking out. The hotel is abysmal. Upon checking in you are told that if you lose your hotel key you are charged 30 pounds, what happened to 'have a nice stay Sir' Internet is virtually non existent. A notice in the room tells you no food or alcohol due to environmental health regulations, utter garbage, the management just want you to eat/drink in the dismal bar and restaurant downstairs. I have spent the last year in this area in various hotels I have always avoided this one due to its reputation in the local area, sadly this time due to the fringe festival it was all I could get, AVOID IT. Paper thin walls if someone passes wind in the next room you can almost smell it.

Review 121:The room was next to what I believe to be the hotel air conditioning unit or the kitchen fridge unit?

Review 122:We will be going back. Wonderful staff, excellent food, nice room, great location for exploring Scotland and good value for money.

Review 123:poor service at breakfast, orders wrong, service slow, staff not particularly helpful, general decor and facilities in hotel felt quite tired and in need of refurbishment, beds not particularly comfortable

Review 124:parking, food in evening

Review 125:Safefy of place no locks or stays on poor fitting swing windows which wind blows through .bed is placed under this .mattress was flat and had no spring left in it .no fronts on fire alarms ,fire doors propped open with fire hydrants

Review 126:Food in the restaurant Okayand filling most of the staff helpful and accommodating

Review 127:The doors were alarmed so with guests going in and out until midnight the alarms were constantly going off whilst they propped them open. You could also hear every word they said. The bath plug could also have done with being cleaned of all the hair stuck in it.

Review 128:The staff were friendly, room was comfortable and the breakfasts were amazing. Also great to have a bar next door for a quick drink and bus stop right outside for Glasgow or Dunfermline

Review 129:Hotel looking a little tired service at dinner meal was cold we sent them back they gave a quick blast in microwave so steaks were tough waited a long time for sweets and bill breakfast was very good but again slow no clean tables to sit at

Review 130:Room was warm so windows were open, however, the resident living behind the hotel decided to start a fire and burn leaves, etc. No fan available!

Review 131:We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The beer was warm but the meals we ordered were FANTASTIC! Beef pie and the salmon.

Review 132:Rooms need blackout curtains and doors oiled as very squeaky. Walls are quite thin and guests using the toilets can be heard quite clearly

Review 133:Nicely refurbished rooms with access to bar and dining room. Receptionist very pleasant and helpful. Nice touch with the tea making facilities.

Review 134:The walls were very thin so you could hear all throughout the hotel. The room had no air con which made it very uncomfortable. The shower was pathetic. It wasn't even a proper shower. I wasn't pleased at all with the overall standard of the room. The room itself needed to be more modern and have more than one pillow were bed.

Review 135:They provided milk and fresh buscuits everyday. The staff were fair enough. The food was very good and I would recommend using the restaurant but the hotel itself no.

Review 136:Room was located in the old part of the hotel facing a noisy busy road. The shower cabinet leaked quite badly. Any food/alcohol forbidden in rooms. The dining room at breakfast was spoiled by staff member clanking dishes about constantly which was far from relaxing.

Review 137:The hotel receptionist was very pleasant. It had a good tv in the room.

Review 138:Loved that we had a refurbished room that was so different from the picture on booking.com. Staff were excellent. We had an evening meal in the hotel, which was very good.

Review 139:Both beds had craters in them with the springs digging into your back, no mirror in room to do your hair for (tongs or hair dryer). Decor very poor,

Review 140:Restaurant very good & staff very polite

Review 141:Clean and comfortable room, with an excellent breakfast. Excellent value for the money.
