Reviews for The Highwayman Inn – RelaxInnz

Review 1:Bathroom was a wet room so could have done with a squeegee to mop the floor.

Review 2:Clean and comfortable, good food and reasonably priced, friendly attentive staff, ample parking.

Review 3:We didn't expect much as it was just a quick place to sleep along our traveling route - the rooms were clean, but a little tired. Window sills are moldy, stains on bed covering, scuffed walls and wallpaper. Could stand a little refresh.

Review 4:The staff were welcoming and friendly.

Review 5:The pub where you check in was very empty and it was a bit like disturbing the staff by announcing your arrival. We arrived 10 mins late for breakfast, we told them we would arrive between 9.30 and 10 and we arrived at 9.40 and they had closed the kitchen and offered us toast. They made several comments about us being late but we insisted we had a cooked breakfast which we eventually got. I don't feel the kitchen should have closed without a 10 min grace period.

Review 6:The evening staff were lovely and the room was nice. Location was great and easy to find.

Review 7:The hotel, even though big, has a very family atmosphere which is welcoming the second you step inside. The lady who owns the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly as were all of the staff and they serve not just a great pint but an amazing cooked breakfast as well! The bedroom was non pretentious like the rest of the hotel, with extremely comfortable beds, lots of tea and coffee and an excellent shower. There was nothing flash or boutique about the hotel, it was much better than that with the warmth, friendliness and total charm. Looking forward to staying there again in the New year.

Review 8:None

Review 9:- A nice location with convenient car park - Lovely Christmas decoration of the dining area - Good Service - A double room of large size with a bath tub for reasonable price - Fancy old style metal bed

Review 10:The television came on at 3.00 am - presumably a previous guest had programmed it - frustrating as we had a long journey ahead of us!

Review 11:Super shower. Tasty breakfast.

Review 12:The door to the room would not open fully, it hit the bed, There was a step up to the bathroom and during the night, without light, hit my foot rather hard. Just not a good flow in the room.

Review 13:The restaurant was convenient. The staff were very nice.

Review 14:Staff uninterested in guests. There is some sort of generator tha goes on in to the night and starts again early morning. Check out was handled by a young lad, who just took the room key. I was hoping that a Manager would have been on reception during check out...Breakfast was very good.

Review 15:The room was clean if a little "tired". The bed was comfortable.

Review 16:The room was too hot and stuffy. The staff at breakfast were indifferent and rude. The menu is very limited, no fresh produce. No selection for food intolerances although the chef was quite helpful/

Review 17:The Bar staff in the evening were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 18:The stairs up to our room were very narrow and steep , the mastic round the shower looks bad and the shower door leaked but did not interfere with our stay

Review 19:Convient for what we were doing

Review 20:Our window faced the road and you could hear it quite a bit in the early evening which can be an issue for some.

Review 21:Friendly welcome, proximity to event we were attending West Fest, clean and fairly good value for money.

Review 22:It was right on the highway so very noisy, the room was very small and the building was quite shabby.

Review 23:The staff were friendly. The food was fast and good. The bed was comfortable with nice fresh linens.

Review 24:Room was very crowded, luckily only 1 night so not a problem. But very difficult to negotiate around the bed avoiding the dressing table and chest of drawers. Wi-fi was slow and couldn't log on at all Sunday am

Review 25:Great full English breakfast, enjoyed a lovely evening meal too. Not a gastro pub but food reasonless priced and delicious. Bed was very comfy so a good nights sleep.

Review 26:I was ignored by the staff from the first minute I walked in . After waiting ten minutes to book in I was told to see someone else by a surly manager. I was promised a seven o'clock breakfast but by 7.25a.m. they were just putting out orange juice. I had to leave without even a bit of toast.

Review 27:The pub is close to a beautiful part of England. There is a large car park.

Review 28:Convenient and a good price for a decent hotel . It also had a good bar and the food was good so after a long day we did not have to drive to another restaurant to eat

Review 29:The staff were very friendly. Full English breakfast very nice, plus 4 toast, and not overloaded like some places. If you're in need of more to start the day, there was also cereal and juices. Room was pleasant and all we needed for a short stay. Comfortable and with coffee/tea making facilities. Nice and quiet location.

Review 30:Our room (14) had a few hiccups - basin plug did not fit so could not keep water in it. Also think toilet leakiing slightly. One of above bed lights not working.

Review 31:Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast service fast and 'Full English' delicious. We had dinner 2 nights and although very busy on the 2nd night service was excellent and food nice and hot. Although on very busy road our room at back nice and quiet.

Review 32:Evening meal in the restaurant was one of the worst we have ever had, although the breakfast was fine.

Review 33:Comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facility. Quiet room.

Review 34:On arrival I booked a table for an evening meal. Arrived in restaurant waitress ignored us. Went to bar, was told sit anywhere!! Sat down, we waited for a menu. I Had to ask waitress for one.we then Sat waiting for someone to take the order. I Asked the waitress, i was told "order at the bar". One choice wasn't available. As I was ordering she asked me " off which menu? (she had only given me one type) I paid. The meal was fair. I would have had a sweet and coffee but couldn't be bothered to walk to bar to order an pay again. They must decide if the are a restaurant, or a pub serving food.they advertise as a Restaurant It was only just after 7pm. We walked past the waitress on the way out. Not a word. Staff training in needed.

Review 35:The bedroom we stayed in needs a bit of a mskeover & the bathroom too. We had a leaky toilet. Had to use a towel around the base as there was quite a bit of water leaking!!

Review 36:The staff were very pleasant & busy as they were hosting a party. We didn't have an evening meal but breakfast was good considering how busy they were

Review 37:Only thing was a flickering light bulb which was irritating

Review 38:Staff were so friendly and accommodating, food was excellent and the room was perfect, they even provided de-cafe tea for me

Review 39:very steep stairs to the top floor which wasn't ideal for my 8 month pregnant wife! Which would have been fine if there was an option to choose which floor we wanted to say on. Although a staff member did try and find an alternative room

Review 40:Great shower! Very comfortable room and beautifully decorated throughout

Review 41:Situated next to a busy road, not good for light sleepers.Limited menu.Specials board remained the same. You need to drive, not suitable to walk to town. Not near bus stops.

Review 42:Good food.comfy bed.spacious room.Ample parking.

Review 43:Kettle didnt work and couldnt turn off the towel rail in bathroom so the room was very hot

Review 44:Lovely room, comfty bed, welcoming staff, great breakfast. Would def stay again

Review 45:not really a bad experience. But it would have been nice to be greeted by the couple who was running the Inn who was sitting at the bar when we came in and ignored us,apart from that it was very good.

Review 46:We liked every thing about the Highwayman, especially the big car park which you rarely get,

Review 47:bed was a bit hard and had not hoovered under the bed, it has a lot of stairs so not good if you have a lot of luggage

Review 48:We have stayed there a few times, quiet, good breakfast, good for a base bearing in mind it is a pub, in all our stays we have been happy there.

Review 49:The room smelt quite bad of strong hairspray or air freshener which gave us a head ache. Also was very noisy if people above us used their water sounded like drill coming through ceiling. There were empty cans on red bull on top of the wardrobe when we arrived.

Review 50:Good location and pub food was good. Staff were friendly.

Review 51:Both rooms had broken hairdryers and toilet in one room sounded like a musical instrument.

Review 52:Good food and breakfast, it was our 3rd visit and will call again if in the area, still good value for money!

Review 53:Was made to feel very welcome, room was clean and the beds were so comfortable, breakfast was good and I had vegetarian which was lovely, would stay here again.

Review 54:The free WiFi in the room was a touch slow, looks like they are using a 3G router instead of an access point.

Review 55:Staff are very friendly and helpful. The food served in the bar was great value for money, no complaints.

Review 56:The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room and facilities were excellent a big plus.We had an excellent meal in the evening which was reasonably priced and a good hearty breakfast to see us on our way nexy morning.

Review 57:Showers stopped working when to many people appear to use them at the same time. Desserts are both small and expensive at £4.95. Very soft beds

Review 58:Great location if your visiting the showground. Excellent burgers and breakfasts. Clean rooms. Attentive staff.

Review 59:I had a little difficulty leaving the next morning, which was partly my fault as I hadn't clearly understood which door I had to leave by when leaving the premises early and I'm afraid I annoyed the Landlord a bit as he thought the instructions I had been given by his wife were clear enough. To be fair they probably were to them but I lost part of it due to my partial deafness, so my sincere apologies for that. I shall know next time. :-)

Review 60:I liked everything about the service and the rooms I had over the 2 nights. On the second night I advised staff that I would be leaving before breakfast and they very kindly agreed to make me a packed lunch in lieu which I appreciated.

Review 61:Some staff were nice, others clearly did not want to be there, breakfast could have been better - serving fermented apple juice is not ok in my eyes. My room was facing a road which I could hear all throughout the night.

Review 62:Rooms were simple, if a bit dated, but comfy. The bar menu was good, food was tasty. The shower was nice and powerful.

Review 63:A very noisy extractor in the kitchen below our room. A relief when it went off at 2130, but it went on again at 0630! A low beam between the room and the bathroom. Anyone over 5 ft 6 in was at risk of knocking themselves out if they went to the toilet in the night! In the morning I was appalled that the tables were not laid out for breakfast. We were told by the girl serving that this wasn't something she did, and we had to lay up ourselves.

Review 64:friendly reception and good atmosphere in the restaurant and bar in the evening. Room bright and cheery

Review 65:Nothing worth a mention...

Review 66:Good breakfast, Good bar to chill out.. The Hotel lady was very nice and helped us during our stay..very friendly. Good overall experience.

Review 67:Unfortunately not all of customer service was up to standard.

Review 68:We really liked our room and thought the range of storage and ensuite were good. We also thought the cooked breakfast was good.

Review 69:Rooms are on the small side, OK for one night but wouldn't want to spend a week!

Review 70:Clean, well furnished and decorated rooms. Young girl who checked us in and then served breakfast was great, cheerful and accommodating.

Review 71:The room we had was tiny, yet we paid the same as our friends and they had a huge room. Staff were very drunk on the first night of our stay. Our bathroom was filthy. There were ants on the tables in the restaurant.

Review 72:The food was tasty and one of the female members of staff (I believe the owner) was very pleasant.

Review 73:The location did not suit us as I thought it was in the town not on a road out of town. Would suit others probably.

Review 74:The staff were first rate, so helpful and friendly. The rooms were nice too.

Review 75:Decor was very dated- could do with a spruce up, bar/eating area needs a deep clean (ants on the table/ sticky mats), Saturday night the bar was very rowdy with what we think was family drinking in the bar before a night out. Myself and my two groups of friends felt very awkward in there.

Review 76:Room was clean, powerful and hot shower, breakfast was lovely and dinner was great quality and reasonably priced. On site parking was handy.

Review 77:Room No 1 suffers from road noise all night, springs in poor bed mattress, lack of vegetarian choices on menu and quality of some of evening meal we purchased especially the pastry on the pie! Give the chef some training in pastry making!!! Otherwise good.

Review 78:Price, pleasant staff, good parking facilities.

Review 79:We were on the top floor, so a bit of a trek with the luggage, but the clean, obviously just re-done room more than made up for it. Lovely deep windowsills held lots of our "stuff" (make-up, maps. laptop, wine and beer) and it was amazingly quiet, given it's right on the road. Great shower. Fine breakfast. Lovely dining room. We will stay there again.

Review 80:Very basic food options for vegetarians, but at least done a veggie breakfast.

Review 81:Good location for what we needed, good clean rooms for a night or two maximum

Review 82:The room I had was right next to a very busy road that had heavy traffic thundering up and down from 5.30 in the morning. The bedroom window was single glazed so the traffic woke me up. Also, the lamp in the room was broken but not repaired despite my request.

Review 83:The staff were nice and the breakfasts were very nice.

Review 84:The food was simply the best, the chef deserves recognition at the least. We had an evening meal and breakfast, although the evening meal wasn't the cheapest I have ever had it was well cooked and presented and good value for money, the breakfast was second to none. The rooms are also well presented, clean and comfortable.

Review 85:The room was a little cold when we returned early evening until the heating came on.

Review 86:We ate at the pub both nights and the food was great, the staff really friendly. The room was quiet and adequate for us.

Review 87:The owners, especially the man are the worst hosts we have ever experienced. They look at you with contempt and never acknowledge your presence. I have no idea why they would buy an inn with so little to offer as far as personality. I would be very suspicious of anyone who says otherwise.

Review 88:The paid staff try their best to make up for what are horrible owners.

Review 89:The owners are miserable! Worst hosts i have ever experienced. The man walks around with a frown making you feel terrible. Couldn't wait to get away from there.

Review 90:The paid staff where the only bright spot

Review 91:We were in the disabled ground floor room and had a light bulb in the overhead bed lamp which didn't work and a toilet which leaked very slightly at the base. Mentioned both in morning to reception but it sounded as if the toilet had been leaking slightly for some time so no surprise shown!!

Review 92:Pefectly adequate for an overnight stay - good value for money and good breakfast - freshly cooked !! Had asked for a quiet room at back and were given disabled room on ground floor and had no complaints about noise. Good heating which we were able to regulate as we wished.

Review 93:Wi Fi too slow to use.

Review 94:The young lady on duty and the chef on duty during our stay were most welcoming and very pleasant and helpful. Food was very good too. Warm clean adequate room

Review 95:The convenience of being close to a larger hotel that was full for a wedding function. A small double room with en-suite perfectly suitable for me. Nice 'full English' to set me up for the day.

Review 96:The room and breakfast was excellent and the staff were very efficient and helpful. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend the Highwayman for the excellent value all aroind.

Review 97:Paint work very poor as was decoration. Entrance door down to bare wood and scruffy. Not a good sign to arrive to. Dirty linen left in corridor outside bedroom doors overnight

Review 98:Heating great and bar prices and food were good. staff did their best but the whole place needs a massive injection of cash. Car park enormous.

Review 99:ask for a room at the back of the building, we had room 2 and the noise from the traffic outside starts at 5.30 approx.

Review 100:free parking, free wifi, sky tv, good breakfast.

Review 101:Would have preferred not to have to go outside, to access room, upper floor next time.

Review 102:Parking, staff, ambiance of social areas, breakfast, all excellent , overall feeling of warmth. Will be back again. xxx

Review 103:Miserable guy behind the bar who always wore a Hawaiin shirt (In December?). Walked around with a permenant scowl on his face as if to try to stop you talking to him (why would anyone want to).

Review 104:Nice room. Very large ensuite. Comfy bed.

Review 105:Good welcome, friendly staff. Took time to show us our room and all facilities. Food very good for Christmas Dinner. Breakfast excellent. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Review 106:Roaring fire friendly welcome great food and service just an around relaxing place to unwind after a hard day at work thank you to all the staff I will be back when I am next in the area

Review 107:I will never recamend any one two stay at highwayman in my life It is one of the worst place I been in my life , it's noisey you can't sleep before Oreo o'clock , the staf is horrible and funny Bed matress is horrible I would like to throw it in the bin, it's room like a graveyard , it's discusting I do not have other words to use for it It was a nightmaire I would prefer to stay on the street?

Review 108:I did not like any thing , everything is horrible , I would like to demolished this place. Horrible , horrible , horrible , Breakfast is horrible ,staff is horrible and horrible !!!

Review 109:Our meal in the evening was not very nice. steak was tough and the steak and kidney pudding was rock hard. did not enjoy that one bit.

Review 110:The room was clean and comfortable.

Review 111:tables not ready for breakfast and on the first morning waitress not bothered where we sat. other mornings manageress on duty and we were asked to sit at tables that were laid up for general meals

Review 112:clean and comfortable

Review 113:Dead flies in room on arrival Two miles out of town Restaurant food well cooked but a bit unimaginative

Review 114:Pleasant and helpful staff Generally a good standard of cleanliness except for the dead flies (see dislikes) Room size adequate (room 9), but not spacious Plenty of hot water in room Good sized portions in the restaurant Fair price

Review 115:Nothing to add.

Review 116:The location was ideal for our visit. Room was on ground floor as requested as husband has difficulty walking and climbing stairs. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was fantastic. We ate there on our middle night and the choice and quality of the food was great.Breakfast was lovely, hot and freshly cooked. Service good and a large car park with plenty of spaces.

Review 117:The towels were small and thin.

Review 118:Friendly staff, good breakfast, comfortable room and very quiet even though close to fairly busy road. Good location for visiting Wells and surrounding area.

Review 119:Having to duck along the corridors

Review 120:Bar staff cheerful and obliging. Breakfasts very good and eveningdinner, if a little large, good value and quality, - can recommend thesteak and kidney suet pudding in particular

Review 121:Unable to open any windows in the room - assume this is a security aspect. There is no airconditioning. Therefore room was very hot and could not be aired. The washbasin was too small to be of any practical use other than to wash your hands, and the general decor in both the room and bathroom was rather 'tired'.

Review 122:Equipped for handicapped visitors. Breakfast was good. Friendly staff. Near to relations in Shepton Mallet.

Review 123:Room 12 slightly on the small side. Price of Guinness !!

Review 124:Location, Parking, quality of food, breakfast and the Steak & Stilton salad excellent. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 125:Had to pay for the room before I saw it. No access to the room via the hotel, you had to go around the outside and in another entrance, good job it was not raining. Stayed for 6 nights and only had 3 packets of biscuits, once I put the disposable tumbler in the bin on the 3rd day, it was never replaced. Food was unexciting, bland, off a corporate menu and over priced. If they can not get the soup right, God help them with a main course.

Review 126:My single room was big enough, not spacious by any stretch of the imagination, nice black-out curtains. The en-suite shower room was spotless, and had a lovely large shower cubicle, and a good force of instant hot water.

Review 127:there was nothing i did not like only the wifi was poor .

Review 128:everything about this hotel was good, the food was good and the service we received was excellent.would go here again if ever i am in the area.

Review 129:If you take into account the price it is hard to complain

Review 130:Good breakfast evening meal also good with large portions for a hungry traveller, the room is comfortable and everything works bar the wifi.

Review 131:We have no complaints to make about our stay there.

Review 132:Used the Highwayman for a 2 night break whilst visiting the area. The room was comfortable and it was quiet as it was at the back away from the road. We ate there on both nights and the food was o.k.- typical pub food. It's a friendly place to stay at. Would stay again if in the area.

Review 133:The current owners are understood to have been in occupation for about 2 years. There are still some outstanding things like décor that can be attended to but it is pleasing to see progress being made.

Review 134:Location. Excellent, helpful service and the enthusiasm of the owners. The convenience of a continuous service restaurant. Huge car park. Adequate WiFi.

Review 135:Billed as a Real Ale pub - only 1 on and not local WIFI - signal was a bit hit and miss in our room (9), good elsewhere Watch your head on the low beams although I liked the quirkiness of the shape of the building

Review 136:Large Free Car Park Friendly Welcome Lovely Breakfast

Review 137:Room 2 - shower needed sealant replaced - black mould everywhere - not pleasant. Noisy as on main road and during the hot spell needed window open. Breakfasts reasonable.

Review 138:Location Comfortable bed
