Reviews for Whoop Hall Hotel and Leisure
Review 1:Food limited due to Christmas period only carvery on and wanted bar food. Room was in need of a little tlc in area of bathroom.
Review 2:Loved the lady who greeted us - even had a call as we travelled to see how we were doing due to flooded roads. Very thoughtful and great customer care. Nice cream tea with proscecco was so cozy sat near the fire snuggled up on the comfy sofa. Nothing too much trouble. Lovely breakfast
Review 3:All The staff were very accommodating ,friendly and chatty .There wasn't anything they could not do for us that would have made our stay any better . Thank you 'Kim'.The rooms were very clean > done daily and a decent size with amenities .The food menu exceptional. The buffet breakfast a feast. A very relaxed atmosphere . A well stocked bar, to include Champs,Wines, Malts Brandies .And an all round in house music choice.Several good roaring log fires.. The use of the Spa facilities > gym pool sauna n steam included in the price and worth a visit ..A good location for a stop over or several days rest . Kirby Longsdale only a few minutes drive away..Pets are very welcome .Would recommend Whoop Hall any time .
Review 4:The Carvery evening meal less than great but I fear our trip between Christmas and new year occasioned this Plumbing was dreadful
Review 5:The staff were great their attitude to animals in the place first rate lunchtime menu excellent Bar was perfect
Review 6:Room tired needed updating. Knob off wardrobe - no side light on one side of bed - electric points used large extension leads - shower mould in places - no view
Review 7:location
Review 8:The bed in room 23 was quite hard - uncomfortable. The gentleman in charge seemed brusque to us - but he may have a very dry sense of humour?
Review 9:Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food was very good and reasonably priced.
Review 10:Internet was difficult without Paypal account faffing around to pay 4 quid - why not just put it into the room rate - everyone needs internet !
Review 11:Characterful and atmospheric property, friendly staff, good value.
Review 12:The manager asked us what time we would be in that night & we really had no idea. When he returned he was very grumpy with us as he had to stay up to lock up. Not a great system
Review 13:We had several less than nice experiences with the staff. When asked if perhaps the bar man could call is a taxi I was told there were some numbers on the wall at the entrance. There were. 3 separate numbers - 2 for taxi companies in excess of 10 miles away which both refused to come to the hotel and a local business which was not operating on a Saturday night. I was then approached by the owner who asked if we wanted a taxi, and I confirmed we did. Well go and ring one of the numbers on the wall then I was told. Many thanks for the inciteful advice! We arrived back after our party in the early hours and couldn't get in. The hotel was locked. Again the owner showed up and asked what time we thought it was, that it was ridiculous that we should return so late. He proceeded to threaten to charge us for electricity for his lighting and take the money off my card. We were given no warning from anyone that there might be a curfew or the hotel would be locked. The following morning I went to make a cup of tea only to find the cup I was about to use a 1/3 full of cold tea from the previous occupants. To top it all off they attempted to overcharge by £40 upon checkout which took about 15 minutes to resolve.
Review 14:The hotel is a lovely old building with some fantastic character in the bar/ restaurant area. The leisure facilities also looked nice, though we didn't use them. The staff however were in stark contrast to the building/facilities.
Review 15:The rooms are very small, there was cobwebs present and damp. The bed was hard and the pillows lumpy. The bathroom suite was old and the floor uneven. Breakfast was ok but on both mornings we had to wait as there wasn't enough toast/bacon. Overall this was a disappointing experience and certainly not value for money.
Review 16:Whoop Hall Hotel is in a beautiful location and staff helpful.
Review 17:Room bit tired, please update bathroom to ensure shower ie a power shower rather than it stuck over a bath X but we coped and to be fair if updated would just solve any issues
Review 18:Location, large room, food was good and staff friendly - really comfortable bed great nights sleep
Review 19:Food wasn't great on the night, expected it to be a little bit better than it was. Breakfast was good though
Review 20:Staff were very good and helpful. We had one girl who looked after us from check in to checking out, she served us on the bar, our food on the night and breakfast, nothing was an issue for her 10/10
Review 21:Bit of a dodgy shower, rooms were a bit small. Wasn't best pleased at having to pay for a towel for the leisure facilities.
Review 22:The leisure facilities were good and the bar was comfortable and relaxed.
Review 23:The lighting in the bedroom was dreadful. Not able to see do dry my hair (female - very important) and th mirror nearest the power source was far too low to see.
Review 24:The swimming pool and sauna just great. The bed was very comfortable The staff were always happy to help Breafast was just great too
Review 25:We had to cancel and I am stil waiting for refund of deposit. Tried numerous times over 5 days to telephone but never an answer. Was on the point of booking elsewhere out of frustration.
Review 26:A great location with really friendly staff. The food was excellent. Sitting in the hot tub looking out over the mountain opposite the hotel was a great end to a day.
Review 27:Staff not customer focused - booked a table for the evening meal for 7.30pm we actually sat down at the table at 8.50pm and didn't get a meal until 9.10pm - not good
Review 28:Nice facilities
Review 29:unfortunately the massage staff were unavailable.
Review 30:staff were amazing especially one of the waitresses/receptionist, i think her name was naomi, very well mannered and helpful.
Review 31:We went to check in and the lady asked me if we were dining there that night and I said no. Once the lady found out we were at a wedding at a nearby hotel she started to have a go saying the doors will be closing at 12pm and we would be locked out and thst nobody from the wedding had bothered to check with them. We also heard the owners having a disagreement in reception. When wr arrived back from the wedding the owner was quite rude to one of our friends and he didnt have a very nice attitude. Also we had to pay £4 a day for wifi which didn't work. At breakfast i didnt sit in the right room as our friends were joining us and the lady had to make a point about it. I offered to move but she said we could stay where we were. We had to ask for toast twice. The bacon was tough and the black pudding was very salty.
Review 32:The lady in the bar when we went for something to eat was lovely, always smiling and very chatty. The meal we had was lovely.
Review 33:With exception of breakfast ladies, staff were rude. Hotel is severely dated. My room had pigeon muck down one of the windows/sill and had been there for a considerable amount of time given the amount! Soap/shampoo holders needed on holders in shower and loo roll holder. Also add hairdryer and iron in rooms
Review 34:Beautiful views
Review 35:no toilet roll holder, no decent soap or shower caps, some lights in the ceiling gone, no handle on the wardrobe door poor drawer space.
Review 36:the staff all but one who I think may have been part owner were friendly. the view from our room was really nice. Very hot water and clean room.
Review 37:There is a charge for Wi-Fi, which I would have thought could be free nowadays. £4 for 24 hours, which I think is quite expensive. Only a couple of miles from the town but no footpaths along the main road.
Review 38:All the staff were very friendly, worked really hard and always had a smile for the guests. The pool and spa were lovely, all kept clean and tidy. The beauty treatments were very good, and not too expensive. Dogs were welcome in the bar area (as long as they were well behaved!) and the owner even brought out little treats for them. Everywhere was clean, and although dogs were allowed, there was no 'doggy' smells.
Review 39:The moaning whingers who slate the hotel when they need to take a step back and look at their own attitude, expectations for the amount they are spending.
Review 40:Location Room clean, airy (Rm 1) Welcome and interest shown by staff Dinner menu and quality of food was good Breakfast was fine Value for money, stayed in hotels across UK and World - I know what to expect for the amount I spend!
Review 41:Shower was faulty which was a disappointment. Apart from that, would definitely go back
Review 42:Was perfect in relation to everything we were looking for. Nice place. Nice people, nice food and drinks!
Review 43:Arrived around 8.30 in the evening to find spa closed. On being shown eventually to my room ( nobody on reception and no note saying where to go so made my way to the bar),no remote for the television and no hot water! Eventually a very helpful young lady sorted the television out and reported the boiler gone out again! Reported it and eventually got hot water.Didnt manage to connect. To Wi Fi! Overall a very disappointing stay,I will not be returning! If I hadn't got a value deal and paid full price I would say very poor value for price.
Review 44:Good convenient location if en route to the Lake District
Review 45:Location, facilities, staff and food all great. Bedroom a bit dated and on the smaller side, although it was very clean and the bed really comfy so no complaints!
Review 46:Barman/manager/owner short of customer service and communication skills, shower in room was very poor standard. Staff continually running around manically. Pool fine but very dated, not like it appears on the website.
Review 47:Staff cheerful, loyal and helpful, food excellent. Comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, (on the whole) lovely people.
Review 48:The bed was on a slope and 2 singles pushed together. The beauty specialist was away for a week so we could not have any treatments. We asked for a ice bucket for our room and were told 'we don't do that' .
Review 49:The building was pretty. The meals were good.
Review 50:I do not know the circumstances but for a Friday night I think they needed at least 1 more person front of house!
Review 51:Nice hotel generous bed room and bathroom. Plenty of choice for breakfast
Review 52:It does need some updating really some furniture a bit battered looking and well used. Bathroom door wouldn't close so no privacy. The evening meal i had did not match the quality of the breakfast and was quite pricey.
Review 53:The blonde lady who works there was fantastic, always seemed to be there and doing all the work. Bed was big and very comfortable! Breakfast was brilliant with a good selection. Overall a good stay and value for money. Not too far a walk from lovely town centre. I would stay again.
Review 54:Having visited this hotel a number of years ago we were pleased that it still maintained a friendly and efficient customer approach. The comfort and quality of the food were of a high standard and we enjoyed a pleasant stay.
Review 55:We booked the hotel at short notice and we arrived just as the kitchen was closing, the staff told us this and the kitchen stayed open and they gave us a delicious hot meal. Even though the hotel was really busy with a private function the staff were cheery and helpful
Review 56:NOT very inviting from outside! But a lot better inside. Breakfast staff arrived late, ok that could be a one of - otherwise fine!
Review 57:Friendly staff - fine inside
Review 58:When we were in the Restaurant the staff could have been a little more attentive
Review 59:The manager made a special effort for those of us on the Three Peaks challenge with packed lunches instead of breakfast
Review 60:We used it as a stopover for the Heysham Ferry rather than driving all the way on the Saturday morning. Made a pleasant change to the chain motels we normally use.
Review 61:Aerobics classes help in the morning and evening in a conference room below our room. The manger was unapologetic rude and didn't see a problem with it. Well when you go for a relaxing break you don't expect Booming music like WW3 when you are having a siesta before tea. We packed our bags and left.
Review 62:The Spa, Shame the sauna wasn't working.
Review 63:Evening meal, wished we had walked down to kirby Lonsdale town for something instead, staff didn't seem very happy about doing anything didn't seem to smile, poor customer focus
Review 64:Leisure facilities
Review 65:I like dogs but it was like an obstacle course in the bar area as expandable dog leads stretched across the floor which was a trip hazard. Also view from my room 24 backed onto the laundry i think but the wall was in bad need of paint.
Review 66:Easy access, good spa facilities inc gym. Restaurant excellent with a good and varied menu. Relaxing atmosphere and staff very pleasant.
Review 67:The swimming pool and gym close at 19:45. We chose the hotel because we wanted to relax in the spa after a nice day out in Lake District, which we could not do.
Review 68:Nice and clean.
Review 69:The hotel was very tatty, the breakfast was inedible and the steam room didn't have any steam!
Review 70:The staff were very friendly and the leisure facilities were very welcome after a hard days walking.
Review 71:Phoned ahead to book evening meal no answer no one on reception Arrival no one on reception Check in experience not warm or welcoming Room no toilet roll holder no handle on bedsodd drawer - no view window looked out onto the roof Black mark on pillow case looked like mascara -flagged these up to the Manager no apology just said he didn't know why there was no toilet roll holder very disinterested Bed very uncomfortable laid a blanket over the mattress where springs were sticking up breakfast - buffet style under lamps everything dry and luke warm very poor standard we were 15 minutes before the breakfast finished but I believe it should be as fresh at the end as it is at the beginning Pool area not very clean changing room did have hair dryers but positioned where the baby changing mat was so not very hygenic- I would have liked to have spoken to the owner to give some suggestions for improvement since I'm sure there's potential but he didn't seem to be around
Review 72:Nothing unfortunately
Review 73:Very offhand staff - long waits at reception. Also rude - Borrowing an extension lead, two didn't work, staff didn't believe me, then was told not to steal 3rd!
Review 74:Quite clearly, we had unfortunately arrived on a Saturday evening when the hotel was unexpectedly short-staffed and it was made very evident by the staff who were there that they were rushed off their feet and annoyed. There was little or no attempt at apology to us for the poor service, even though their problems were none of our doing!
Review 75:We liked the situation in lovely countryside and conveniently placed for our journey from Oxfordshire to the Lake District
Review 76:I like to think I'm a happy smiley person and my partner she certainly but we didn't smile here we wasn't smiled at and wasn't even spoken to by staff till I paid the bill and the guy said good bye That's it two words Honestly that was it.. This place could be amazing but very dated and really need a boost in staff personality and customer service
Review 77:Nothing
Review 78:The restaurant was poorly organised and the staff clearly found it difficult to cope. Staff argued amongst themselves in front of customers and many major mistakes were made with orders. There were only four or five couples eating, I dread to think how they would cope if the restaurant was full.
Review 79:The room was spacious and clean and the leisure facilities were excellent.
Review 80:It did feel like somewhere that was struggling financially a bit and hence the breakfast was very poor. I'm glad we read the reviews in advance and so there was nothing we didn't expect. There was nothing that meant we wouldn't go back, we thought it would be a good place to stay on a winters weekend and make use of the spa facilities.
Review 81:We liked the staff, the spa, it was quiet, clean and comfortable. It's a great part of the world. We drove up to Dent for a superb walk but the Church view, local walks and Romany caravans on their way to Appleby were great.
Review 82:The managers attitude when we explained that we'd booked a room with ensuite, only to discover there was no shower! Just a bath! Also when I asked for a couple of wine glasses for the room was told no! Not allowed to consume your own drinks in your room! Could only have a glass if making a purchase from the bar! We ate in the hotel restaurant but my wife was brought the wrong dish and when I said it was the wrong dish it was hastily taken away with a very abrupt sorry through gritted teeth! Worse still when her correct dish arrived it was rudely placed down firmly on the table with no apology.the similarities with faulty towers were uncanny, won't stay again
Review 83:Pool facilities ok
Review 84:Staff are over worked, no one at the reception desk when we arrived. I requested a double room and was given two single beds which were so unfortable. The room was very basic. We waited nearly 2 hours for our food to be served of an evening. Once again at check out couldn't speak to anyone at reception because there was a queue of people waiting to complain to staff. It is definitely not worth the £120 stay per night I would not recommend to others and would certainly never visit again.
Review 85:Lack of staff and we was kept waiting at the bar and checking in for over 20 mins and the staff where pretty rude and it showed they didn't care. Poor service as they didn't meet requirements in regards to double bed and we ended up with single beds to be told it wasn't their problem as we booked through booking.com!!!
Review 86:Clean but not much more
Review 87:only downside but extremely minor is no free wifi but wouldn't make me want to go elsewhere just because it was free
Review 88:Everything, superb location, nice people fantastic facilities. Can't wait to go back!
Review 89:Bedroom in old part of building and over bar area. Late entertainment so little/no sleep. Bar area still in use at 2:30 a.m. complaint stopped noise and didn't recur on second night
Review 90:Facilities and food were good. Staff were attentive when contacted.
Review 91:Tired, run down property and leisure fascilities. Had to request the music in the bar turned down at 12:30am as it was very loud in the rooms upstairs.
Review 92:The promotional photos - sadly not representative.
Review 93:there were two immigrants working that weekend an older fellow and a young woman that were most unhelpful. She looked like she could be new, he was just snarky. I'm an immigrant too so we have to work harder at not being misunderstood. He has just given up.
Review 94:The pool. The eggs were extremely fresh and free range, so yummy.
Review 95:The bathroom was poorly lit and had no extractor working therefore after the bath had been filled once the whole bathroom and contents was soaked in condensation.
Review 96:The location is perfect, surrounded by country side but only a short walk to Devils Bridge and Kirkby lonsdale.
Review 97:Staff calling across public areas to each other. Food slightly pricy. Several little add ons such as wifi and towels for the spa.
Review 98:Spa was great. Good range of food and drink. Room was nice and quiet.
Review 99:Mouldy window frames, super mouldy shower curtain, little extra payments (wifi, 1£ for swimming pool towel, owner is beyond rude
Review 100:Friendly staff, good location.
Review 101:The owner is just like basil faulty very abrupt no people skills . Onto tip I would give if the owner has a problem with the manager don't argue in public. Doesn't look good
Review 102:The location was exsalent the manager was helpful as was all the staff.
Review 103:When we arrived no-one on reception and no-one around to ask. The lady was fine but overall the staff need to wise up & gain customer service skills. Having been in the hospitality trade for over 20 years, I can honestly say this really lets the whole place down, only interested in taking money but not good value overall. The bar prices are horrendously hiked up and the little foreign guy behind bar was very arrogant & sullen towards customers. We had dinner on the sunday only as went into town on the Saturday where food was higher standard & much cheaper! The food at dinner was over priced and not hot, although we ordered ours at the bar, they not only forgot our order but then asked 3 times for it again! We had ordered just before another couple who we were having dinner with & they were called before us & their meals were cold, but the lamb shank my friend got was huge whereas mine was tiny in comparison, when paying £16 for it, as an ex chef, the portion of veg was minimal and the rosemary & redcurrant gravy was just minted , couldn't taste any rosemary or redcurrant in it. On checkout we discovered we had been charged for these meals even though we paid at the time at the bar, this was removed though by Nicola who was apologetic. Breakfast hit & miss, Saturday food was cold, Sunday it was hot! Fruit bowl hardly any in it and no yoghurts on offer. Hot buffet was good for selection choices. Wifi, £4 charge, only got connected once, rest of time gave up! No shower in room which is a nuisance as it's more convenient. No sugar in room when cleaned, kept having to go ask for it, not good service.
Review 104:The location is great, lots of good walks in the area and plenty to do. Town of Kirby Lonsdale is fab, lovely quaint place very friendly locals. Hotel is in a good location and the lady think she was called Nicola, seemed to do everything, she was very pleasant & accommodating. Leisure centre was excellent all round.
Review 105:The staff where 100% focussed on running the hotel....shame that customers seemed to be an inconvenience! Being beckoned when a table was ready, then the table pointed at, rather than being shown to the table, just took the shine off what we would expect. Sleep quality was poor, noisy water tank filling, landing doors banging, and a wedding on our last night, which we were not made aware of - even though we paid extra for this night!
Review 106:The pool and spa facilities were absolutely brilliant. The food was great, both breakfast and evening meals. The lady with the blonde hair was the only one who smiled at us and made us feel welcome in 3 days!
Review 107:Its just a shame that free WiFi isn't available most places now can offer this
Review 108:The area is fantastic looks amazing with lots to do in local area food us good rooms are nice bed are comfortable
Review 109:No hot water in shower after late arrival. Requested discount but receptionist said not possible because I booked through booking.com. She eventually offered £5 reduction which was an insult. I duly paid full amount said I would discuss with Booking.com
Review 110:The room we were given was very disappointing - the bathroom door did not even close!! Missing bedside lights and generally dowdy. Main A65 outside bedroom window so traffic noise throughout the night. Lounge furniture is tired and mismatched.
Review 111:Not a lot.
Review 112:Paying for Wifi, but that is your choice
Review 113:This has to be one of the best small hotels weve had the pleasure of staying in, very friendly staff from top to toe, nothing was a problem, all requests done with a smile, definately one to back to, or if you havent been get yourself there.
Review 114:Children were not allowed in the pool pre 7.30 and post 6/6.30 our son is an excellent swimmer and due to our commitments and purpose of visit over three nights he was only able to use the pool once.
Review 115:Able to get a family room which we have found difficult. Very obliging staff in bar and restaurant . Good exercise facilities
Review 116:I had a single room at the front of the property and unfortunately did not get a decent nights sleep due to the noise of the traffic from the road
Review 117:Found the staff very friendly. After asking for yogurt the first morning at breakfast and being told they didn't, do it the following morning they added yogurts to the options available.
Review 118:No towel rail. No phone in room. Silly headrest over bed. No extractor fan in bathroom or place to put soap in shower.
Review 119:Swimming pool. Lounge area. Location.
Review 120:Charge for towels Charge for internet We thought the bed was a bit hard but that is just our view and you might find it comfy
Review 121:Food Friendliness Location
Review 122:Problem with the booking from booking.com, we booked a double room and had to have a twin, another couple got no room at all.
Review 123:The hotel and leisure facilities were very good.
Review 124:No shower in bathroom. Post code on booking LA6 2HP but on Hotel literature LA6 2GY. For sat nav LA6 2HP was incorrect.
Review 125:Very nice hotel, pleasant and helpful staff and a good breakfast.
Review 126:The hotel is basic ready for doing up .the main thing for us was the reception and bar staff were rude and couldn't really be bothered being there won't be going back
Review 127:The leisure club and its staff was great nice facility's and a good massage to suit
Review 128:a bit unsure as to how you go about ordering the food took quite awhile under staffed I think.paid for meal before we had eaten it ??
Review 129:Food and beer. room ok pool great and spa all good
Review 130:rooms need updating...Hairdryers should automatically be in rooms and not having to request them. No chair at desk in room and had to request one so I could work In my room. No free wifi in any area of the building.
Review 131:staff were friendly and very helpful. Location ideal.
Review 132:Made the booking on line but needed to ring the hotel to book an evening meal. I rang the hotel several times a day for 4 days but calls always went through to an answerphone. I left at least one message every day. On the fourth day I missed a call from them so rang back immediately, got through to the answerphone and left yet another message. Me calling and leaving messages continued for a further two days. On day 7 someone did answer but then hung up. I immediately rang again and was answered. I asked why it was so difficult to speak to someone and was told in a very rude and abrupt manner that if I had left a message she would have called me back. She then went on to rudely say I rang you and you didn't answer!! When I said if you do answer all messages why have I not had a response to other messages she replied "what do you want" When our friends tried to check in they were ignored for several minutes whilst staff finished their conversation. There were two people in reception when we arrived and the phone rang a couple of times, each time it was ignored. Our room was ok however our friends were very unhappy with the standard of cleanliness in theirs.
Review 133:I was slightly disappointed with one member of staff who was at the reception desk when we first booked in as I felt (so as my family) he was not that all friendly and welcoming. That said, overall experience at the hotel during our stay remain very pleasant and positive.
Review 134:The hotel is situated in a beautiful location between the Lakes and the yorkshire Dales so a very convenient location. The staff has been generally good with professional work etyhic.
Review 135:The relaxing feel of the hotel and the warm welcome from the staff, who go out of their way to be helpful and cheerful. Great food, lovely setting, comfy beds, what more can I say this place is a gem. We have been coming here for a few years now and it just gets better.Hope to be back soon.
Review 136:Unprofessional staff, room was in need of updating and thorough cleaning. Shower cubicle ready to collapse and drainage issues!
Review 137:Location to kirby lonsdale
