Reviews for Redcoats Farmhouse Hotel
Review 1:We were not always given the correct information re: breakfast times etc (although it was Christmas so staff were not always available). Also room not hoovered for 2 days - again possibly because it was over Christmas.
Review 2:The room was very comfortable and the staff very friendly. Lovely breakfasts and dinner. Lovely location.
Review 3:We had our first date here, several decades ago and hubby was hit by a wave of nostalgia, opting to stay here when he had to attend a nearby meeting. He was a little disappointed as he felt the standard of decor had not been maintained and Redcoats needed a bit TLC.
Review 4:Very concerned staff-hubby was stuck in traffic jam on A1 for hours and they phoned home to check on his progress several times. Ensured someone was up and a snack waiting for him when he eventually arrived in the depths of night.
Review 5:quirky, old farmhouse with character in quiet Location, breakfast and staff were good. Expect a lived in experience with rustic chic, its not modern Hotel finish but was not expecting it to be, I was in room 3, which was compfortable
Review 6:Fantastic olde farm house that hasnt been over-modernised. We loved the quirky bar and our Suite 'Bobbies Room' in the main house. Lots of historic beams and brick with old fireplaces - brilliant! Dog loved fhe garden and we wanted to snoop round the magnificent 17th century barn. Breakfast was better than dinner - amazing menu.
Review 7:We were kept waiting in the bar area for over half an hour before dinner, despite having booked. Some cobwebs/dust in bedroom. Elderly clientele.
Review 8:Mostly excellent food and breakfast. Pleasant grounds to relax in. Lovely spa bath! Friendly staff. Quirky layout and characterful building.
Review 9:Unfortunately I felt the evening meal was poor value for money. The meal I actually had was a salad in which the leaves had gone brown, it was small, and had reheated rather than freshly cooked chicken in it. At almost £13 this represented poor value. It was so salty it was almost inedible due to the 12 whole anchovies I discovered lurking in the creamy dressing. The hotel did not charge me for this meal, which was appreciated, but it did rather colour my judgement of the stay. I would stay there again, but would eat out rather than eat in for dinner as the whole menu was pricey for what was on offer. Starters £ 6 -12 Mains £17- 23 Puds £6 - 8 and cheese a whopping £8 ! Service was OK.
Review 10:Clean comfortable room and the location was ideal for me from a business perspective. Wi fi connectivity was easy and good.
Review 11:Just a niggle, the shower, unable to adjust to get a comfortable temperature, too hot.
Review 12:Room very comfortable and plenty of facilities, would liked to have stayed longer than the one night.
Review 13:Not well geared up for business traveller - breakfast starts late, wifi not working for most of stay, unable to print off VAT invoice when checking out, etc
Review 14:Comfort of the Bed and large walk-in shower
Review 15:The carpets need replacing and due to being directly over the bar area the noise from the bar can easily be heard in Room 3 - it doesn't even have to be that loud.
Review 16:The level of service was excellent, all requests were dealt with promptly by friendly staff. The food was delicious and served in generous portions, both the freshly cooked breakfasts and the evening meals. The bed was the softest I have ever slept on, I quite literally felt like I was floating off to sleep.
Review 17:No gym and its on a busy road so not easy to go for a run or walk. I was in room 11 and my main beef was that as this has the potential to be a 2 room suite you could hear everything in the other room...what was on TV and the chaps snoring. This spoilt my stay.
Review 18:For me it was the perfect location. Trying to find somewhere nice between Luton and Stevenage is a challenge. Lovely olde worlde style. The internet worked well and was free. Room was nice as was the food.
Review 19:That I only had one night here.
Review 20:You can stay in bland chain hotel if you want but I would much prefer the beauty comfort care an individual family run establishment any day.
Review 21:Had difficulty connecting to the wifi.
Review 22:Lovely location, beautiful grounds, very friendly staff, nice sized comfortable room. We had our evening meal in the restaurant & it was outstanding! Excellent selection for breakfast too. Highly recommended.
Review 23:Lovely room and really welcoming and friendly staff. We Enjoyed dinner and walking our dog in the attractive grounds. Excellent stay ,great location and he to stay again soon.
Review 24:Dinner was mediocre. Breakfast was poor, as was breakfast service. Choice of cereals and fruit was limited. Service was slow and the staff weren't attentive. There were three of us, but just two slices of toast were provided when we asked for toast. We asked for more and for another two slices only. Catering definitely needs improving. Checking out was overly complicated. If you've paid for dinner in advance make sure they don't charge you for dinner again accidentally.
Review 25:The bedroom was light and airy with windows at either end. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The Reception staff were friendly and reasonably attentive.
Review 26:If I were staying regularly I'd be craving variety of different restaurants within walking distance which there are not with Redcoats being fairly remote. Would not stop me staying again though!
Review 27:Welcoming, helpful and friendly staff. A charming property in a tranquil setting. Room was spacious, tasteful and immaculate. The bed was remarkably comfortable and breakfast delicious.
Review 28:We arrived late so requested sandwiches.. Oh my, cheese in stale bread. Bread not even buttered, so no food as kitchen closed. Was expecting king size bed but it was definitely a double
Review 29:Lovely location and beautiful room. Breakfast 10/10
Review 30:Bar noise below the room
Review 31:If u like rustic charm, it's a perfect venue for you. Creaky floorboards, no noise isolation but still a very enjoyable stay.
Review 32:Perhaps building needs some updating and admin streamlining.
Review 33:Staff most helpful and cheerful. Tried very hard but detected a degree of inexperience. Good ambitious menus and food was very well cook and presented. Very flexible and cooperative approach by management. Lovely comfy house.
Review 34:We loved the friendliness of the staff, the efficiency during our meal, the food was amazing! The room was cosy warm and we enjoyed every minute of our stay
Review 35:The bedroom, bar+conservatory were draughty. Bar service was slow. The shower functioning was poor. Tea+Coffee were tepid. The teapot looked as if it had never been cleaned. Cooked breakfast was cold + badly cooked. The conservatory floor was covered in remnants from the day before..
Review 36:The evening meal was good.
Review 37:"Superior" room in small annex nothing special. Room style not match pictures. Food order mixed up with delay to one main course. Had to remind about complete drinks order. Had to ask for a cup to go with pot of tea! Port full of sediment. Breakfast slow. Irritating gratuity button on credit card machine.
Review 38:Well positioned. Old style in main hotel. Food quality good. Friendly.
Review 39:We couldn't have dinner in the hotel on Sunday (when we arrived) but the staff did lots of effort to book us a table at a great restaurant nearby and giving us directions to the place, so it is wasn't a bad experience really
Review 40:The place gives a luxurious feeling and at the same time has a touch of home.
Review 41:Common parts are a little shabby; in keeping with the country atmosphere but could do with a lick of paint here and there, and some general tidying up particularly around the floor and skirtings
Review 42:Staff put themselves out for me Lovely country dining room, and atmosphere, very good bedroom with good pillows and fully equipped bathroom and excellent food
Review 43:Latest Breakfast starting time was 09:00 which made things feel that you had to rush not to miss that important start to the day.
Review 44:All Staff were very kind and helpful, we had a room in the old part of the house, 16th century, certainly a unique experience and the gardens were very beautiful and well cared for.
Review 45:Unfortunately we felt our stay was over-priced. The room we stayed in was quite dusty (fabric furnishings) and the furniture a little tired (plus no hairdryer/extra pillows). The chap who we presume owns the place was very friendly but the staff at breakfast were harried and curt and we felt a little self-concious eating our breakfast in the quiet room as they loudly dragged and banged the tables ready for the evening, right next to us. We weren't late for the breakfast sitting either so not sure what the rush was...
Review 46:Lovely big room with charming old-fashioned look. Nice atmosphere in the hotel and public areas. Smart, clean modern bathroom with lovely powerful shower. Great tea/coffee facilities with a Nespresso which was a nice touch.
Review 47:Location / public transport not ideal for the music festival at nearby Knebworth House my friends and I were attending. That said, Redcoats Farmhouse Hotel more than made up for this slight inconvenience.
Review 48:The location, accommodation and staff were all top notch. Would definately recommend to anyone and would not hesitate booking there again.
Review 49:Great setting nice bathroom and lounge area. Comfy bed fab breakfast. Friendly helpful reception and staff. Would love to come back for dinner and a shot at that wine rack!!
Review 50:Lovely old farm house, fantastic, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, big rooms, comfy bed, plenty of parking spaces, gorgeous location, within easy reach of local towns, etc. Will definitely stay there again, can't fault it!

Review 97:Photographs didn't do it justice!
Review 98:Room was beautiful but rather too hot. Breakfast was good but quite a delay in taking our order and then a long wait for the food & our toast never arrived.
Review 99:Lovely rooms & grounds.Owner very friendly & helpful, lunch very nice as was breakfast despite the wait/ lack of toast.
Review 100:For a hotel in the country the road outside is quite busy.
Review 101:Top quality room of great character in the main house. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Review 102:Staying on a farm had its drawbacks. Woken at 4.30am by cows !
Review 103:Staff had a great family feel, very attentive, felt personalised. Quaint farmhouse, well equipped and modern rooms / fittings.
Review 104:Very quirky hotel was lots of atmosphere, very comfortable beds and very quiet location. Had dinner in the hotel, excellent meal with no faults
Review 105:The way the 'reception' desk was mingled in with a seating area was confusing. One staff member (long blonde hair) was a bit odd - sorry.
Review 106:Newly refurbished room was very comfortable and the food was very good in the restaurant.
Review 107:The evening menu is quite high-end. As a single guest, staying there ahead of a conference, I would have preferred to have had the option of something simpler (and a bit cheaper) and the option of eating somewhere other than the Restaurant.
Review 108:The whole place was lovely, my room (one of the renovated stables) was of a very high standard. Comfortable - luxurious bathroom. Couldnt fault it. Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful
Review 109:Teenage girl on reception/telephone/bar when I arrived, clearly couldn't cope, took 20 mins to check in
Review 110:Stay here often, food excellent, rooms comfy, great original farmhouse feel
Review 111:Very nice peaceful rural location within easy access of A1. Room was very comfortable and bathroom was one of the best I've had anywhere. Food in restaurant and for breakfast was great.
Review 112:The bed was extremely uncomfortable. It was 2 single beds pushed together with a double matteress over both which resulted in a big dip in the middle.
Review 113:No complaints or criticisms
Review 114:Very good lunch with reasonable choice, stayed overnight in comfort, and had splendid breakfast (did not have dinner). The staff were all very friendly, the hotel was authentically quaint, and far enough from main road traffic to be very quiet. A delightful experience with dog friendly owners.
Review 115:On arrival I asked about dinner in the restaurant person thought that the restaurant was full but I could have a bar snack in the bar. I was on my own not over keen to sit in the bar on my own. Stated if I did not have dinner i would have breakfast instead (not included in my booking). Had to ask person serving breakfast if she could check me out.Left to wait did not appear happy when she eventually came to see me. I was not asked if I required breakfast had I enjoyed the stay etc etc. Tried to work during the night could not send emails. On checking out I asked if the sever was down was told it could have been. Obviously not interested! Would not return again.
Review 116:Nice quiet room.
Review 117:having to wait at the bar feeling neglected because the owner thought it would be better to show a couple around planning to use the hotel for a reception. The food although good but not worth the price being charged.
Review 118:Lovely hotel and grounds. Stayed I what I presume was at some point the stables. Refurbished room to a high standard
Review 119:that we couldnt stay longer
Review 120:when we arrived we had been stuck in traffic jam on m25 for three hours , as you could expect we were drained as it was over 30degrees in the car , landlord actually bought keith a pint , and every thing was perfect, spotless and lots of finishing touches breakfast excellent
