Reviews for Creag Mhor Lodge
Review 1:The guest house didn't provide evening meals, but did suggest where to eat out.
Review 2:The location was lovely, breakfast was very good, the staff were very friendly.
Review 3:None, to think of.
Review 4:Personal attention from staff and management, including the diligent and prompt return of items we had left behind. Wonderful folks! Great place to stay. PS - they had a great whisky bar, too.
Review 5:Views were excellent and the lodge was relaxed and comfortable. The bar and lounge was very nice with a log fire and the staff were friendly and accommodating.
Review 6:The pic on Booking.com website is totally misleading - I thought I wouldbe in a quiet place up in the mountains with heather and hiking in theglens.... It's right on the very busy road!!! And I asked for a roomwith a view so got a front room on the road - luckily I had ear plugs.Owner was very rude. They close their check in at 9.30pm so get therebefore then.
Review 7:Some of the staff were wonderful - trying to make up for the old bat whoowns the place and is rude to all the guests!! The breakfast waswonderful. Parking was free. Wi fi, lovely old house with lots ofcouches sit in the lounge - used to be a hotel so all those amenitiesare there but only serving breakfast now.
Review 8:rude receptionist needs to go on customer care course, restrictions on breakfast times and set cooked breakfast. Had to pay the night before. TV didn't work and a lot of dust
Review 9:Choice of whisky's and memory foam mattress, choice of fruit
Review 10:This hotel is outstanding, offering an elegant, tastefully furnished and very peaceful space with extremely professional, discreet and warm service which creates an unusually gentle atmosphere whereby your body and soul feel completely rested. Our room was beautiful with adjoining dressing room and simple but luxury bathroom and had the most wonderful outlook onto the Loch. The staff are.kind and genuine and do something quite rare: they listen and give their guests an unhurried and exquisite space to relax and refuel during their travels. Breakfast was absolutely scrumptious :) Didn't want to leave. Highly recommend for the more discerned guest.
Review 11:The owner Alison and her receptionist are lovely--friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, served in the beautiful dining room. The house is massive and has had much work done and plans to do more --the bathroom was great.
Review 12:Lovely location with stunning views across the loch to the hills. The seasonal staff (a couple) were extremely friendly and helpful through the stay and could not have done more to help. Lovely breakfast selection- both cold and hot.
Review 13:We paid extra for a twin room that was advertised to have a loch view. It actually faced a building into a neighbor's room, and you could only see the loch if you positioned yourself in one corner of the only window in the room. The walls were painted a dark tan, the furniture was all dark brown which made for a dreary stay as it rained heavily during our stay, no closet only a few hooks, drafty bathroom, no paintings on the wall. Extremely disappointed, as we expected a cheery bright room with a view, which were prominently pictured. Advice to guests - ask for a room at the front of the building.
Review 14:The staff are extremely helpful and cheery, wonderful to deal with. The young woman behind the bar was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We cannot praise all the staff that served breakfast and helped us with restaurant reservations enough! The food was good, the breakfast room interesting.
Review 15:The owner was not very helpful, they lost my deposit and were not at all flexible regarding late arrival. The staff were delightful
Review 16:The location and the superior rooms were excellent, the standard room was very small and a bit scruffy.
Review 17:Info said they had a bar , 350 whiskies , bottled cider and canned beer , staff from reception , info showed dining room , NO MEALS IN THE EVENING !!! Menu from another local hotel , expensive and not very good . Wouldn t go near there again .
Review 18:Breakfast , leaving .
Review 19:The location is beautiful! The views of the loch from the common area are amazing. Breakfast was one of the best we had while on our vacation. Plenty of bread options or cereal/yogurt, plus a full Scottish breakfast available or porridge. We had the family room which has two rooms and a shared bath. Very comfortable and spacey enough for our family of 4.
Review 20:We couldn't find out information about this property, it's history specifically. Would be nice to have something written in the otherwise informative hotel room book.
Review 21:Our room was beautiful, and the views across the loch stunning, constantly changing. We couldn't believe our fortune in such wonderful surroundings.
Review 22:Mattress very hard and doona was new and smelt (was replaced when mentioned to staff but shouldn't have needed to bring this to their attention).
Review 23:Good location overlooking lake, good breakfast, large rooms, comfortable lounge/bar area, staff helpful when issues raised.
Review 24:Isn't it frustrating when you actually look for something that is less than perfect and cannot find it.
Review 25:Fabulous accommodation in great location. Magnificent view. Staff that are an absolute asset to the place. Room was great with comfortable bed. Breakfast was on par with the rest of the house.
Review 26:The bar closes at 11pm - but most bed and breakfasts don't have an amazing whisky bar that you could have stayed in until the wee small hours!
Review 27:The staff were great and could not do enough to help. They were also genuine. The room was comfy and clean, the shower large and good, the bed comfy with a good quality mattress, breakfast was great with a good range and promptly served. The bar was just superb. The views from this bed and breakfast were outstanding. We loved this place!
Review 28:Disappointed with cleanliness of room ,dusty, paper on ceiling stained, and hanging off ,poor value for money
Review 29:Nothing only advice where to get evening meal off site
Review 30:Bedroom at the back had no outlook - felt since we booked about 5 months in advance we might have had a room with a view of the loch. Room was lovely though small.
Review 31:Lovely location and a spectacular looking lodge. Nice lounge area with fire and cosy bar. Quiet location with a couple of excellent restaurants nearby.
Review 32:Older woman was somewhat rude when we asked if there was a common bathroom off of the lounge. Other than that, our stay was wonderful.
Review 33:Stunning location and gorgeous suite of rooms with a lovely water view. Cozy lounge and whiskey bar with knowledgeable staff.
Review 34:Poor wifi, and stuff was not very responsible. No wifi access to the room, only in public area Very far from the town.
Review 35:Convenient car park Good lake view Rooms size are fairly big
Review 36:We were woken up on our first night by a very loud dripping noise, when rain, leaking from a broken guttering, fell onto a plastic window ledge, and then bounced against the glass. This was loud enough to wake us both up, and having looked to see what the noise was, it was intrusive enough to keep me awake until it stopped raining. We told staff about this problem in the morning, and they said they were aware of the broken guttering, and that they all needed repairing !
Review 37:The hotel is in a great location, and we had fabulous views across the loch from room 11.
Review 38:The surrounding restaurants were good and easy to find (by car), hadn't appreciated the Creag Mhor didn't do evening meals, I just assumed they would.
Review 39:The Hotel staff are lovely, always interested in your day and very attentive. Loved the big comfy lounge chairs, views of the impressive mountains and cask strength whisky selection - a great combo. Breakfast fruit was of a very high quality. Again staff were well trained and quick to offer coffee etc (doing the basics well)
Review 40:Could find nothing to complain about!
Review 41:Everything was just lovely, nice hosts,a lovely room with a comfortable bed in a pleasant Lodge. The bed was comfortable and we very much enjoyed our one night stay. The setting was perfect with lovely views too.
Review 42:this beautiful old building has been lovingly maintained to retain its traditional style but allowing for modern conveniences. The staff were helpful and efficient. When we stated that we would be leaving at breakfast time an earlier full breakfast was offered. The (included) breakfast was all one could need to set you up for the day.
Review 43:1) Check in only start a 4 pm.The entrance door will be opened after 4 pm 2) No wifi in the room as the signal is very weak
Review 44:1) The room that we had consist of the living and a separate bedroom 2) Clear loch view from the room 3) There is a big reading room and a bar counter
Review 45:The setting is wonderful and so relaxing. There was some confusing in our booking but the staff was very helpful in working with us with regards to the room. Definitely want to return for a longer stay!!!
Review 46:We were surprised at being asked to settle our bill before we were even shown our room. The furniture, carpet and soft furnishings although being relatively new were not the quality expected for £150 a night, especially the paper bath mat ! Light flooded in the bedroom from 5.00 am thought the part glazed bathroom door . Breakfast was well cooked but no egg options and a notice to ask guests not to ask for things not on the menu. I have since read 5 star reviews for this place and wonder whether there are 2 hotels of this name as the comments bear no relation to my experience .
Review 47:The beautiful period building and the fabulous views across the loch.
Review 48:Although no restaurant the recommendation for a good one was great and much appreciated. No complaints at all.
Review 49:Amazing whiskey selection, comfortable bed, great breakfast and lovely staff
Review 50:Wonderful staff made us very welcome. Great flexibility for our group of ten, packed lunches, a delightful whisky bar in the evenings, and an all-round competence made this stay a delight.
Review 51:The shower took quite a while to run warm and wasn't very powerful
Review 52:Incredible selection of whiskies in the bar, some of which you'll struggle to find anywhere else!
Review 53:No curtain to stop light getting through in the bathroom. Breakfast was good although it could of been larger.
Review 54:Ideal location to get to touristy areas surrounding hotel.
Review 55:Toilet being situated right next to the bathroom window. There was a net curtain but would feel more private if there was a blind that could be closed, especially at night.
Review 56:Our room was spacious and comfortable with a fantastic view over the loch. Being a long weekend the whole area was very busy so our host recommended a local restaurant and made a reservation for us for dinner. Hot breakfast was cooked to order with a buffet selection of fruits cereals and pastries.
Review 57:Great view, room, breakfast, obliging and efficient staff, ambience second to none, have stayed many times -consistently high standards across all meaures.
Review 58:Wi-if only in lounge area - which in itself is not that bad except there was a very loud person (guest?) who decided their conversation should be heard by everyone/anyone else who was in the room even if they were trying to relax at the end of the day.
Review 59:Good experience with friendly and accommodating staff. Great lounging area and bar.
Review 60:Staff were helpful in recommending places to eat.Room was clean & comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Recommended a whisky which I had not tried before; good choice.Nice lounge with bar facilities.
Review 61:Bedroom - The poor decor and standard of decoration in the bedroom. UHT long life milk, poor mattress on bed. Bathroom- Unfinished decorating, no lamp shade on lit mirror, shampoo and soap sachets as opposed to little bottles. The sash window, behind the net, is disgusting This is not what I would class superior in any stretch of the imagination and hence the cost outweighed what was described.
Review 62:The view, lounge area and the friendliness of the staff.
Review 63:Didn't like breakfast being served just between 8am and 9am. The bathroom requires a spruce up around the window. Staff could have been a little more friendlier.
Review 64:We both enjoyed the breakfast and view from room was breathtaking. Room nice and spacious.
Review 65:We did not like the room we were allocated. Was stated as a superior double. This was not the case. who ever painted this room should be sacked as was shocking, (very shabby). Splashing of paint over many things. The double bed was 2 singles pushed together, which would have been ok if a double mattress was used but was 2 single mattresses and not comfortable at all. A kettle was supplied which we had th put on the floor as the cable was so over stretched and dangerous. For this being stated as superior we were not happy to say the least. Room should be advertised as a simple double.
Review 66:Staff were very helpfull and catered for your needs. Breakfast was great and with a swift and friendly manner.
Review 67:The quality of service was superb with attentative, friendly staff. The room was large, very clean and extremely comfortable. The whisky bar is also excellent and very well stocked.
Review 68:Not a bad experience, but the layout of the living room could be looked at so more people could enjoy the fire - if people sit next to it, then puts others off from sitting nearby. Also, the bar is very enclosed and does not encourage people to come and order drinks or stand at the bar - could make more money by opening up this whole area.
Review 69:Location. Recommendation to a great restaurant and very helpful receptionist. Bed very comfortable and the extra area for getting change a nice touch, with large bathroom.
Review 70:Rooms are not fitted with Wi-fi. Only in common spaces.
Review 71:Conveniently located near Glencoe, the hotel features an amazing view from the lake. Breakfast had a wide range of options. The staff displayed an outstanding level of customer service. Knew about surroundings and were eager to help on what options were available for tourism.
Review 72:Beautiful view, fantastic location, beautifully appointed room and bathroom, superb facilities and a delicious breakfast. Couldn't ask for any more.
Review 73:The coffee was the usual British version (i.e. extremely weak), however when I asked for double strength it was immediately forthcoming with a smile. The parking area is rather limited. The lavatory paper was far too thin and needs to be upgraded!
Review 74:The staff were always very polite and friendly. The cooked breakfast was very good and there was plenty of choice for those wanting continental style.
Review 75:Amazing Place and highly recommended. Great room with view over the lake and mountains, lounge with fireplace and whiskeybar, nice breakfast and clean toilets. Coming back soon!
Review 76:We arrived at 3.30ish and had to wait until 4pm for access. Just need to be aware.
Review 77:Our stay was in a very large room with fantastic views. No issues at all with accommodation or breakfast. We had a very nice evening meal in a hotel a short distance away from the Lodge. We would stay again but may need the same room!
Review 78:Stunning location, friendly staff, spacious rooms and super lounge to relax in. Excellent breakfast to set you up for the day. Would definately book again.
Review 79:Certain things need maintenance work for example, bath edge is broken, ceiling paint I spelling off at various locations in the bathroom.
Review 80:Location is convenient. Like the room view and cleaness.
Review 81:nothing to dislike
Review 82:the room was very comfortable and clean, the view was spectacular. staff was helpful and cheerful. lobby was an enjoyable place with a fireplace; it makes you feel like being in an Agatha Christie novel, you can enjoy your drink near the fire while reading a book.
Review 83:The cozy lounge area was comfortable and a lovely place to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the lake! We were upgraded to a suite with a lake view room for free of charge and the bed was comfy and room was very spacious! The breakfast service was delightful and we loved the character of the building and friendly staff!
Review 84:Uncomfortable beds, hardly slept. Unfriendly management. Paint peeling off walls, and bad Paint job in bathroom to cover dampness, black algae.
Review 85:Breakfast, was good despite only being served between 8 - 9 am.
Review 86:Excellent character accommodation. Fantastic location across road from waterfornt with views. Not far from Fort William and attractions there. Friendly, helpful service. Large well furnished rooms. Lovely lounge and dinning room. Great value.
Review 87:Nothing at all
Review 88:This place is charming and has a real character to it - and its setting is spectacular - our room looked out right over the loch and the surrounding mountains. Amazing choice at breakfast! We hope to return next year.
Review 89:Not much, may be the no internet in the room. Mobile signal also week in the area.
Review 90:Good accommodation. Value for money. Good sized rooms. I did booked a twin room for two adults, expecting 2 beds in one room, but I got 2 rooms connected together, which was nice. The price was also good. Though not a luxury lodge, but excellent value for money
Review 91:slight road noise through the night(very light sleeper) but is more than compenstated by the fantastic view or can be overcome by sampling from the extensive whisky selection
Review 92:We had a fantastic view over the loch and the suite was very spacious with a large double shower. The staff were very friendly. A filling breakfast with enough variety to suit everyone (the best black pudding I've had in a long while). Hugely extensive whisky selection and very comfortable lounge to relax in. We will be back.
Review 93:We arrived late to Creag Mhor and were met by the very helpful Lena who showed us to our family room. It was toasty warm, very spacious and well appointed. The whole stay was great value, especially cnsidering the great cooked breakfast the next morning. Loch views were something else! Would definitely stay again.
Review 94:The view from the room was amazing. It over looked the lake and the rooms had a nice colonial feel. The staff was very helpful and gave good advice where to go next.
Review 95:Wifi in the room would be great and tea/ coffee in the lounge would be an added bonus.
Review 96:Our suite was really roomy and very comfortable. Breakfast was included and there were plenty of options. The lounge area was really cosy with the fire going in the afternoon.
Review 97:Even better if there had been: A larger mirror in the room would make it easier when drying your hair. Maybe I missed it but a sign further down the road as pre-warning of the location.
Review 98:We arrived early evening and received a big room, nice and clean on the first floor with a view towards the lake - lovely. The linnen in the bed was high quality and the bed was comfortable. The location is just next to the road, not lots of traffic but something to consider if you are disturbed easily. We slept like logs. The bathroom had a shower with good water supply and again nice and clean. Iron is available in the room and so also hair dryer. Nice lounge area with fire place where you can enjoy a glass from the bar with the other guests. Family owned with pride and staff very friendly. Good english breakfast is included with possibility to order your type of egg. No own restaurant for other meals but there is another hotel close by at the lake - food ok there but we were not impressed. Well, we were only on site for a short while but would love to come back - good value for money.
Review 99:Nothing!
Review 100:A most comfortable and scenic venue with very helpful and friendly owners and staff. Excellent buffet style breakfast served in an impressive dining room full of the character of a Scottish house. Our rooms were classed as "Superior" and although more costly certainly worth the money with very modern bathroom facilities and a wonderful view across Loch Linnhe to the mountains in the distance. Altogether a very memorable visit and we wished we could have stayed longer! Thank you Evelyn, Ewen and Alison for all your helpful advise.
Review 101:Waiting outside in the car till 4 o'clock to check-in. Having arrived half an hour earlier, the door opened at 4 o'clock sharp.
Review 102:Excellent view of the loch from our bedroom, spacious rooms, nice breakfast.
Review 103:We paid a bit more for the bigger room with view over the fjord, well worth the money.Had a comfortable and pleasant stay with a local beer at the bar in the evening.
Review 104:Nothing
Review 105:I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at “Creag Mhor Lodge” The room location, friendly staff and the superb breakfast all certainly contributed to a delightful visit to such a beautiful area which fortunately was blessed with fine weather on that occasion. Dr Charles Glasgow
Review 106:We stayed here after the Coast to Coast and would highly recommend. Only ca 2 miles from Ballachulish. Fantastic building in a stunning location with great staff - perfect.
Review 107:We stayed after a very tiring endurance event that finished nearby and had not realised that local travel links and taxi services are poor. The owner made extraordinary efforts to help us out.
Review 108:No evening meals available, but the nearby Onich hotel did that job wonderfully.
Review 109:On arrival told we had been upgraded to the two-room 'suite', with views across the loch the the mountains opposite. Just amazing. Really friendly and helpful staff, who recommended a fantastic local restaurant for our evening meal and made sure we knew exactly where we were going.
Review 110:Car park was a bit crowded - a recommendation in itself!
Review 111:Friendly comfortable guest house with excellent breakfast. Good price for a solo l. Situated by the sea near Glencoe - can't ask for more than that
Review 112:Bar only accepts cash, which is pretty silly. The room is a bit chilly and we would have preferred some heating. A space heater is optional and that works for the time being.
Review 113:A grand, former mansion, the cozy interior and rich decorations present a nice initial presentation. The owner is a cheery woman. The bar is nice as is the comfy living room area. A good place to relax. Spacious, clean rooms and bathroom. Gorgeous view across the loch. The breakfast offers a nice variety of options, including hot food like porridge (although I wish you had peanut butter!)
Review 114:Loch view is blocked by high trees, no supper is provided when I arrived by 9pm, but the staff has recommended an excellent restaurant called Holly Trees (10mims drive) with 10% discount coupon from hotel.
Review 115:2 large rooms & 2 large beds, super quiet & tidy, good location & just slightly away from Fort William which is better than in town, breakfast is good.
Review 116:There was no Scottish welcome, the guy could hardly speak English, nobody to ask abt recommendations for the area, the breakfast is only served from 8 to 9 am, the yogurts were not replaced and the orange juice was empty, the bar area was being refurbished, it had a hostel feel to it..
Review 117:The location was ideal, near enough to fort William, stunning views overlooking the lake, very spacious room and the ensuite looked brand new, just lacked personality unfortunately
Review 118:Great location for touring - on the road but superb views of Loch Linnhe and mountains across the Loch. The lounge was full of comfortable armchairs and sofas, with a bar well stocked with whiskies, great for relaxing at the end of the day. Lovely old lodge with great atmosphere.
Review 119:Perhaps just a little too quiet for us. Felt like you needed to whisper in the bar
Review 120:Location - room was beautiful -very,very quiet, whiskey bar, decor, building, breakfast
Review 121:This would have easily scored 10 out of 10 for me but there were some minor issues.. I don't see why a perfect hotel would let small things pass them by. Paint flaking in the bathroom, broken bath panel and poor sink.
Review 122:Stunning building and communal areas. Friendly and helpful staff. Good entertainment system with wide selection of DVD's. Really helpful guide in the hotel informing you about local restaurants and amenities.
Review 123:Water pressure in the shower.
Review 124:The location, the staff, the whiskey selection in the bar, the breakfast. Staff recommended a great restaurant towards Oban (holly tree hotel).
Review 125:no water pressure in shower - may be everyone taking showers at the same time because of the limited breakfast window
Review 126:loch side location friendly staff fabulous family room comfy lounge and bar breakfast and dining area excellent
Review 127:It would have been nice if they had done evening meals as you had to drive to the next village to eat
Review 128:The view from our bedroom window was spectacular waking up of a morning and seeing the Loch and the mountains was a really good start to the day
The Fine Print
