Reviews for Waterhall Country House - Gatwick

Review 1:The staff was very friendly and the house is lovely. Great for someone that does not want a standard stay at a hotel but more of a at home feeling. Would definitely recommend

Review 2:Phone signal is pretty bad, but to be fair the hotel is in a very rural quiet location so to be expected. Not their fault at all

Review 3:Fabulous little hotel tucked away in a very quiet location. That said, it is only 10 minutes from Gatwick airport. I'm booking up every time I go from Gatwick!

Review 4:Shower was pretty poor, hardly any flow, but manageable (room 9).

Review 5:Really comfortable bed, friendly welcome, really good location if you are travelling from Gatwick, as they have parking also. Quiet overnight as on a country lane. However, don't stay here if you want a nice lie-in and a relaxing time, as the place lies directly in the flight path of the Airport, so planes come low over after takeoff from very early in the morning. Didn't bother us at all, just making this comment for future reference of potential visitors. Still a good place to stay.

Review 6:The breakfast was very small and wasn't great value. Overall cost of room a bit pricey

Review 7:Friendly welcome. Nice location. Comfortable and clean rooms

Review 8:Nil.

Review 9:As we only stayed 1 night, its difficult to say what we liked the most, but the evening meal was delicious, our room was very comfortable, and the bathroom and shower was perfect. Our hosts were very charming, and the breakfast staff were very helpful and patient. We would certainly make a return visit.

Review 10:The bathroom needs a bit of a revamp - not the style, which was country English and rather charming, but things like sealant round the bath and grouting needing replacement let it down. It looks kind of dirty but it is such a small thing and easy to sort so disappointing they had not done it.

Review 11:Very lovely staff, charming room, utterly beautiful country setting, convenient for Gatwick, tasteful decor, nice shower, no threadbare scratchy towels

Review 12:Quite a rude reception because we had arrived 15 mins early as did another couple who felt so uncomfortable, they waited in their car! Not enough towels, no milk, not enough cups/glasses. Also constant planes going over caused tv to lose signal every few minutes.

Review 13:The bed was comfy, breakfast was very nice.

Review 14:This hotel is located in the countryside away from traffic etc. but only 10 minutes from the airport. It is situated under the Gatwick flight path which was noisy at times, but no more than expected for an airport hotel.

Review 15:It has to be said that the downside is that it is near the end of the runway. A novelty for 20 minutes!

Review 16:Location is excellent. Wonderful setting only 10 mind from airport.

Review 17:Room had a strong damp smell. I wasn't aware I could take any food into the room, when I arrived back with some food the hostess met me at the door and just said 'you can't eat that in your room' and walked off. No explanation as to why or apologies if there was any misunderstanding I was given a room by the check In Desk and was awoken by people coming in and out or checking out early in the morning. If you need to use your mobile phone forget it as there is little to no signal here. Planes constantly taking off and landing as gatwick is very close, so if you are a light sleeper as I am you won't sleep well. Unfortunately I won't be staying here again. I was very disappointed with my stay and the hostility from staff made me feel very uncomfortable indeed.

Review 18:I had a courtesy call to make sure I could find the hotel ok and a fabulous home cooked evening meal the night before my journey. The staff were friendly and very caring, making sure all my needs were met

Review 19:Bathroom in second room, on our return from holiday looks a little tired. Noise from reception in second room. Wifi didn't work for me

Review 20:Great for parking whilst on holiday. Clean hotel. Friendly staff Good to have taxi service arranged. Great value

Review 21:Friendly welcome and helpful staff from arrival to departure. Lovely building conveniently situated for airport. Delicious evening meal in hotel restaurant. Would throughly reccommend.

Review 22:Only slight negative was the lack of wi-fi and I think that this is to do with the the thickness of the walls from what the receptionist told us.

Review 23:Welcome was very pleasant and they allowed us to choose our evening meal before going to our room to get changed, which meant our starters were ready when we came back downstairs.

Review 24:Unfriendly owners, unable to make exeption to the rules eaven for my 86 year old husband We had to sit in the car on the parking lot for two ours, and were adviced to go down to the town, because the do´t open until 3 o´clock. We changed our arrival plans and were looking forward to a warm wellkome but met nothing of the kind. When we explained to the staff how disapointed we were the owners came to "talk" to us. They were very rude and unfriendly and said that they live here and need some privacy so they have to have rules, and cannot make exeptions. My 86 year old man had to pee in the forest! The reply was that if we want more service we have to go to more expensive hotels. We own this hotel and we make the rules! We stayed in many other hotels for ten days. This was the most expensive and should have been the crown of our trip. when we left after telling the people that we will never be back, we were gloomed at by another housemember, who slamed the dor on us to make sure that we understand that we are not wellcome here. My God what was this? All we asked for was the hospitality and warmth that was adverticed on Booking. In my work i have had thousands of hotelnights and I have never met such unproffessional people! if you do´t like customers, don´t run a hotel!

Review 25:The garden and concervatory The girl serving at the dinner The lady receptionist

Review 26:shower was wonky and hard to figure out, bathroom light kept flickering, but once I was rested and could focus, I figured them out with some help from the staff

Review 27:Beautiful location, beautiful building, pristine - very very clean and nicely appointed, it is at the end of the runway but not as noisy as one would guess -- I actually spent a week at another place further away from the airport but sound and vibration of the engines were much louder there than here -- here I found it actually relaxing - the sound and rhythm were a lot like waves rolling in at the ocean.

Review 28:Nothing to report !

Review 29:The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The room and particularly the bathroom was spotless,We had an evening meal in the conservatory restaurant which was excellent.

Review 30:The very nice breakfast and extra when my son asked for as much as possible . The clean , comfortable room and a nice gin ad tonic at the bar in the evening

Review 31:There wasn't a choice of wines. Just Red. White or Rose, i thought this was pretty poor

Review 32:The Hotel had a warm & friendly feel about it The staff were very efficient & attentive

Review 33:The only thing that spoilt the stay was the attitude of one of the staff = very offhand. i.e. I asked if there were any sweetners and was told "No" whereupon she walked out of the room. Politeness cost nothing!!

Review 34:I liked the conservatory where the meals were served and the meals themselves were good. The room was quite big and warm and the beds were very comfortable.

Review 35:Decor in the room was less 'boutique', more 1980's, so a little dated. No offer of how you'd like your eggs cooked at breakfast - no choice, fried only! But for one night, not an issue.

Review 36:The location was very convenient for the airport and inclusive parking was very useful. Good price for an overnight stop.

Review 37:When returning to hotel to collect car don't like that hotel is essentially unmanned!

Review 38:Good quiet location (never really heard the aircraft). Pleasant staff, food acceptable and room good. Prompt taxi service. Would use again.

Review 39:Nothing- I certainly wont moan about the aircraft as I booked near to the airport- what do people expect.

Review 40:Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Enjoyed a lovely meal and drinks at the bar. enjoyed my bath.

Review 41:Just a little remote.

Review 42:Stayed here night before our morning flight from Gatwick. Just a 10min taxi ride, lovely clean room. We had a evening meal which was cooked to order and was very nice. Staff very friendly. Would definitely stay there again!.

Review 43:Nothing especially other than quite a light sleeper so aircraft noise was hard to ignore in the morning as frequent take offs fue to close proximity to Gatwick. However noise was not that apparent when trying to get to sleep, did not notice.

Review 44:Rooms clean with everything you need, nice walk in shower area. Breakfast area in large conservatory pleasant overlooking well maintained garden.

Review 45:Everything was great here

Review 46:WEchose this hotel for a two night stay and were delighted. The staff were excellent as was the room we stayed in .Would deffinately stay here again.

Review 47:Room smelled a little damp - large damp patch in corner... suggest needs a dehumidifier if the problem cannot be resolved more permanently. Dinners were a little lack lustre and not cheap at c. £13/head for main course, but service and attitude of staff was super. If staying again, would definitely have the excellent cooked breakfast but go elsewhere for supper.

Review 48:Very nice room, comfortable bed, wonderful views over garden and wildlife (deer running around). Free wifi. Excellent double glazing in bedroom (required as low flying aircraft going overhead as they take off on a regular basis!). Nice little lounge bar area. Room was tastfully decorated and very clean (other than damp problem). Super quality cooked breakfast.

Review 49:Excellent hotel for use as an overnight stop for Gatwick airport with parking. The hotel was reasonably priced and they organize a taxi service to and from the airport which could not be faulted. The hotel has excellent rooms and being under the flight path we did not hear any planes go over whilst in our room unless we opened the window. Would definitely use this hotel again when visiting the area,

Review 50:Not much really. It is very close to gatwick but indoors you hardly hear the planes.

Review 51:We loved the staff and their friendly manner. The food was excellent and bar well stocked.

Review 52:Really enjoyed our last night before heading home....Convenience Ambience . Charm.Picturesque rural setting. Great Food.A fleeting sight of deer as we chatted happily at dinner , swapping stories with fellow traveller's.Thank you was a lovely ending to our month over in England.

Review 53:Only one small thing: no phone in the bedroom

Review 54:The building The grounds The location Nice room Friendly and accommodating staff Good food Easy parking

Review 55:Not good wine choice. Guy at breakfast seemed a little put out that I was half hour ahead of my reservation .... No one to help take my luggage to the car. I was more than happy with my choice of breakfast but there was little other choice. Fruit flavoured yoghurts only and sliced bread

Review 56:Really pretty room and very comfortable. It also had two very nice armchairs overlooking the garden so I could sit and relax in the comfort of my own room after dinner without feeling like I was in my bedroom. Very good for someone travelling solo. Very handy for the airport. Dinner was good and there was a wide choice. Could expand the wine choice. My choice for Breakfast was also good...... cooked breakfast but not at all heavy. Very light and the fluffiest scrambled egg ever.

Review 57:As a stop over for flight to Gatwick airport, we will never park our car there again. Should have read the reviews. Our car had been moved to make spaces and on our return home one of the alloy wheels has been scraped all around the rim. I hasten to add not from me or my husband as we are so so careful and fussy with the care of our car! The lady owner was dam right rude when there was not sufficient space to park our bmw 5 series on arrival. A big car to park. Told us there was nothing she could do. Too late to park elsewhere. Having read other people's nightmare reviews we probably got off lightly! But will be telling our friends never to stay there.

Review 58:Not much

Review 59:Our bill was £20 more than we had booked on line with Booking.com. On production of our confirmation we received an apology and paid the original price.

Review 60:A nice location but spoiled by the continuous noise if aircraft taking off from Gatwick Airport. It did Not disturb us once we were asleep. Nice room, very clean, good sized walk in shower. We received a warm welcome and instructions about our stay. The taxis for our outward and return journeys were arranged by the hotel. Nice grounds where we saw a deer and a fox close to the hotel.

Review 61:I was exstreamly disappointed by only being able to check in between 3-10 we travel far for a wedding and they hotel was not helpful at all in accomodating I had to leave in the middle of the wedding meal to check

Review 62:It is located just at the taking off area of influence of Gatwick...too noisy..impossible to relax ir even have a nice sleep. The room had a strong smell of old, but clean. Bathroom had a bath tube but not shower..no curtains, so water mess is guaranteed.

Review 63:Staff very friendly, good breakfast and dinner meals. Good chef

Review 64:planes interrupting talks (but surprisingly ok for the night), poor phone reception, couldn't get a thinner duvet for the night

Review 65:the garden view from the conservatory area for dinner/breakfast and from our room, the nice food/breakfast, comfy beds

Review 66:The planes flying over - haha!

Review 67:Pleasant introduction. Made fully aware of the process for the taxi to and from the airport etc. lovely clean room, good food and nice people.
