Reviews for Britannia Ashley Hotel
Review 1:Old bumpy TV, broken TV remote control
Review 2:Shawer, hot water, good water pressure The window in this particular room(208) was with PVC frame providing good insulation from the cold weather outside which is the main difference from room 207 where the window was with old iron frame.
Review 3:Too old TVs(bumpy, no flat screen), unicameral windows which does not provide good enough protection from the cold outside, impractical open/close mechanism(no handles, hard to lift/move).
Review 4:WiFi at the loby and the restaurant, good central heating, hot water with good water pressure, local Co-op food store in the same bulding, large free parking near here betweem 18 pm and 8 am .
Review 5:Disappointing. After staying several times before and been satisfied, the room was far too hot, could not turn central heating off and window did not open.
Review 6:Staff very friendly and helpful. Location of hotel
Review 7:Last night I had the unfortunate pleasure of staying at the Britania Ashley hotel in Hale,Cheshire. With Hale being such an affluent area I decided that this hotel would be ideal for a romantic stay over for my fiancee and I after spending a night out in Altrincham for her birthday. But after paying £49 for the room (no 337) I was appalled by the standard of the room which would of looked more at home in transylvania or on faulty towers. It was a disgrace to such a multi million pound company chain and I have the pictures to prove it. 1) the TV was something Noah had on the arc. 2) no remote for TV. I asked reception they said hardly any of the rooms have tvs with remotes. 3) the front of one of the drawers was completely off and left to rest against the unit 4) Two of the lights in the room were not working 5) the position of the bed was over one of the bed side lights so you could bang your head on it getting in and out?? 6)the bathroom wasn't too bad apart from the super glued chunk out of the sink unit. 7) the horrific image on the wall is stuff of nightmares it was so freaky we had to cover it. 8) the actual bed was as about as comfy as a slab of concrete and the -1 tog duvet cover would have been more use as a table cloth. 9)the gorgeous coffee stained decor was probably the most delightful aspect of the room Overall the standard room was far below standard and I felt ashamed that I had treated my fiancee to a romantic night out at such a below standard hotel, which I would doubt that even Mary and Joseph would of stayed at. I therefore would ask you kindly to look in to my complaints and hopefully send me a response to this email. Thank you
Review 8:Nothing at all
Review 9:The hotel needs to invest in up-to-date television sets. It needs to reach an agreement with the local council over use of the adjacent car park.
Review 10:Quiet room, even though it looked over the main street
Review 11:I stayed in room 108, and bathroom door looked as though someone had tried to put there boot through it, small bin near television was filthy, and I had to clean the kettle before I felt I could use it.
Review 12:Staff very friendly, and bed quite comfortable.
Review 13:Rooms very tired, linings of curtains all ripped, black dirty marks on the carpet, one of the rooms had chewing gum stuck to the bedside table.
Review 14:Breakfast was really good
Review 15:Location was difficult to find. The halls were stinking, the rooms were not evenly painted and the wardrobe was worn and needed revarnishing or replacing. I would never book this hotel again.
Review 16:Staff were friendly
Review 17:Room was cold and smelled of cigarettes smoke. Very cold bathroom withNo heating at all, no wifi in room, hotel is shabby in general, no carparking, and not easy to find. Directions should say On top of co opsupermarket, Park in supermarket car park chargeable
Review 18:Hotels location in town / village centre, bathroom was clean andmodern but no heating !!
Review 19:Room a little tatty but very clean.
Review 20:In a great location for Hale, right on the high street. Great location for the airport as you get to it via 'back roads' rather that the M56.
Review 21:It was rather hot in the room and we were not sure how to control the heating.
Review 22:Good price, near to railway station and shops, lots of parking, room had everything we needed, loved the view from the window (Christmas lights etc)
Review 23:It's a cheap and cheerful hotel, the linen is clean, but the facilities are tired and worn. First time i've stayed in a hotel with a CRT TV with no remote for a while!
Review 24:You get what you pay for, a bargain hotel close to the airport. But no frills. So long as you know what you're getting you'll be fine. In a nice area, with good local bars and restaurants.
Review 25:no soap in room, bits of food under armchair cushion, empty bottle of code in the drawer, old furniture, smelly towels, got my room switched at arrival, false advertisement, no wifi in room.
Review 26:nothing
Review 27:Only stayed 1 night, no hot water or heating from evening time till leaving next morning. Curtains hanging off window & smoke alarm covered with plastic bag. Not a good experience.
Review 28:Given a 50% refund when leaving.
Review 29:The room was cold and there was no heating or hot water available. i had to have a cold shave and shower, everybody complained and got a partial refund. not impressed. Bed linen clean but carpets manky.
Review 30:good location for me on that particular evening. The staff member who had to deal with alot of complaints did so with manners and honesty
Review 31:The room was (1) dirty (I had to clear away litter that was on the floor when I arrived) and (2) absolutely freezing (the radiator didn't work). In addition, there was no hot water
Review 32:The location was good
Review 33:Being in the hotel; it's a dump and not worth 30 quid a night let alone £70. The bed side light didn't work, the bathroom floor was filthy and I booked a double room and got a twin room. I didn't want a twin room. If I'd wanted a twin room, I would have booked a twin room.
Review 34:Leaving
Review 35:Receptionist had severe body odour Room smelt of smoke & we asked to change. Initially refused & offered us an air freshener! Eventually got a move!
Review 36:Location
Review 37:Room smelled very badly of stale tobacco despite window being open. Mattress was very poor - could feel every spring and sagged into the middle. Decor and general condition very tired. Old CRT television dumped on landing. Lift creaked and groaned. Didn't chance breakfast after experience of room. Smokers congregated around entrance made entry and exit unpleasant. Wifi didn't work!
Review 38:Location convenient for our visit to Altrincham
Review 39:General dirtiness - e.g in lifts and had badly stained chairs in bedroom. Chairs also had crumbs/rubbish down back - not very pleasant!
Review 40:Good position. Tea and coffee making facilities.
Review 41:Filthy room. The carpet had not been vacuumed for a long time, wardrobe filthy. Scruffy chairs with split upholstery. Wifi not working. TV remote control had no batteries. Not worth money paid.
Review 42:Location. Receptionist was efficient at booking taxi. But this was far outweighed by the problems.
Review 43:The décor is very old fashioned. NO internet connection in the room, no good for business travel
Review 44:The staff on reception was very helpful and friendly. Costa Coffee next door
Review 45:The shower did not work. The noise at night time from other hotel guests was overwhelming and kept me up for most of the night.
Review 46:Staff were very friendly and accommodating and very helpful.
Review 47:Filth everywhere - walls, carpets, mould, thick black gunge around windows - one of which was jammed open with a coat hanger! Thick - and I mean thick - dust in all corners and around skirting. Mouldy bath tiles and bath mat. Dirty sink and shower and even filthy wardrobes inside and out. Very noisy until the early hours with people knocking on each others doors.
Review 48:Nothing - it was disgusting
Review 49:The smell of maurajuana in the corridors and hairs under the sheets and a towel that had been used an so on
Review 50:I liked the location as my family lives there
Review 51:Not really bad but some things need a bit of the lastest touch of gadgets, example- the TV
Review 52:The location is around interesting area to hang out a little and a supermarket to get stuffs.
Review 53:No heating for much of the day so rooms were cold. Electricity fuses kept tripping leaving rooms without electricity for some intervals. No wireless in bedrooms even though free wireless advertised, when I raised this point I was told that the free wireless was only for restaurant which is not as advertised and was very inconvenient.
Review 54:Staff were helpful
Review 55:No electricity.
Review 56:The hotel was lovely we arrived late about 9.30 pm and had a drink in the bar and went to bed early! We had to be up early ready for our flight however there was no electricity and had to get ready in the pitch black, very difficult with 2 young children and therefore unable to shower. Phones had not charged and alarm had not gone off. Staff were unhelpful when told them.
Review 57:The bed was like sleeping on wood, it sounded like it was going to break every time you moved. The wi-fi wasn't available in the rooms only in the dining room
Review 58:The young man on reception was very polite pleasant and helpful
Review 59:The carpet is threadbare. Everywhere needs a good clean/ revamp. I think the duvet was designed for a cot. I have some kind of mushroom growing in the bathroom. And the radiator valves are seized so the room is unbearable hot even with the windows open
Review 60:Nothing
Review 61:The hotel was crumbly. The TV was antiquated and the handset had to be held in such a way as to stop the batteries from falling out. The two bedlights must have fused as well.
Review 62:The young man in reception was extremely helpful. Also, whilst the surroundings were average, it was in good reach of restaurants and not far from my conference.
Review 63:The room was very very dirty, even the bin hadn't been wiped over. The toilet was exceedingly dirty, curtains hanging off the rail and beds with springs all over the place.
Review 64:Convenient location
Review 65:Staff forgot my request for a bath towel. TV had only one channel working. Communal area was rather grim.Lift rather ancient and noisy. Room was chilly and the heating took all night to warm up. Wall lamp falling off the wall and not working. Flies in the room.
Review 66:Very clean bathroom.Quiet room and comfortable bed.Helpful porter.
Review 67:The bed was the worst we have ever tried to sleep in - was well past it's use by date! The hotel is not as close to the airport as described on the internet - you definitely need a car.
Review 68:This hotel is in an excellent location for bars and restaurants albeit they are on the expensive side.
Review 69:The hotel was not at all what I was expecting after seeing the pictures on the Internet. If the room was any indication of the rest of the hotel then it needs a refurbishment. The furniture and television were in poor condition and the wifi was not working properly. Thankfully we arrived late and left early the next morning. Would not want to stay here again.
Review 70:It was convenient for an early morning pick up at Manchester Airport.
Review 71:Rooms were dirty and very dated. Awake all night due to people going to there room at 03.40am, talking, hairdryer being used at 4am from above. Absolutely unbelievably the worst I've stayed in. And even upon checking out at 6am the receptionist never asked if everything was ok with our stay
Review 72:The room had an extreme smoke odor, my throat got irritated in seconds, I had to spend the days in my friend's flat. I was surprised the quality of the room, and expensive area, you need to do a extra charge for people who smoke in the rooms, even the furniture and the beds smelled horrible. It was very difficult to find the hotel. By the way, the photos on the website are not from this hotel, I realized that they are from the other Britannia, don't fool people, such a shame.
Review 73:The fact no one assist with heavy luggage to take up flight of stairs. rooms dirty. furniture have stains on them carpets dirty. big stains all over. room cold. Didn't dare look under the sheets of what we might find.
Review 74:nothing about it is to like.
Review 75:Room not ready on time had to return later! Lift out of order not working and no signs of any urgency issue under DDA? Attempted to get breakfast at 945am on Sunday told served to 10am told abruptly by a member of staff it had finished with no.apology offered !!
Review 76:Location , friendly greeting at Reception.
Review 77:Lift was out of order. It was all very dated and dirty. The bedroom carpet was very dirty. Only one bath towel. Wall lamps were falling off walls and switches were behind furniture.
Review 78:The bed sheets were clean and so was the bathroom. But these were the only plus points.
Review 79:The hotel looked neglected and tired, a coat of paint and new carpets would make a better impression, which I did not have on entering the hotel. However the bed was clean and quite comfortable. The lift get making a rather loud noise which started at 5am and I could not sleep after that.
Review 80:Breakfast.
Review 81:The area in which the hotel is situated is rather plush. We arrived late and were able to select from a range of lovely restaurants. The hotel, however is not so plush and needs a serious update in decor. The staff had already checked us in which was a little disconcerting. I have paid less for better.
Review 82:The location as it wasn't far from the airport which we travelled to the following morning.
Review 83:It was very difficult to find the hotel as there is only the post code given and no house no Room is in need of renovation Curtains had not been washed for years Picture choice (naked ladies on the wall) is very questionable Hole in bathroom door Carpets need to be cleaned The lift was not working and no offer to carry bags upstairs Had to pay for parking
Review 84:There was very little to like about this hotel.
Review 85:everything about the hotel,it was like going back in time to the 70's,the staff did not have a clue, the rooms were very poor, what more can i say,the worst hotel i have ever stayed in........
Review 86:Maybe better TVS in the room that is all.
Review 87:Fantastic value for money. Get what you pay for! Basic but perfect for early flight next day. Cannot complain really!
Review 88:Out dated hotel, needs redecorating. Window hard to open radiator couldn't turn off, was too hot.Door didn't lock properly. Poor value for money.
Review 89:Clean bathroom.
Review 90:The carpet was thread bare and it was obvious that previously the hotel allowed smoking inside. Decor incredibly dated, especially in communal areas. £80 on one night was ridiculous, premier inn a higher standard.
Review 91:Location was very practical with lots of nice restaurants near by Staff were helpful and friendly
Review 92:The furniture in the room was very old. Only two out of all the lights in the room and bathroom worked. The doors were off the rails in the wardrobe so it couldn't be used.
Review 93:The room was very clean. The early morning alarm call was on time.
Review 94:Public areas need smarting up, outside lights not working. Walk from car park to front door at night not nice in the pitch black.
Review 95:Good location, good price when booked online.
Review 96:The room was worn & not particularly clean though the beds were clean & quite comfy. Noise from outside perhaps a generater on the 2nd floor was annoying! Didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that.
Review 97:I have contacted the Britannia Ashley Hotel directly via email but have not received a response so I am informing The Director of Britannia Hotels that I wish to complain about my recent stay at this hotel. I arrived after a long days travelling well after midnight on the 27th September. The receptionist on duty was surly and rude and offered no assistance as I struggled up a short flight of stairs to the lift with an extremely heavy suitcase. I AM A PENSIONER!!! The Hotel is shabby, run down and extremely filthy. I know the Britannia Ashley is a budget hotel and I certainly didn't expect 4 star treatment but I did expect to stay in a clean room and deal with polite staff!
Review 98:Nothing!
Review 99:The hotel feels a little tired. The parking could be an issue. Not for me arriving after 8pm and leaving before 8am.
Review 100:The location is good and the price was great.
Review 101:* Rooms mall and shabby. * Towels tiny and shabby. *Parking is expensive local car park with no discount or reserved spaces or assistance. Massive ancient TV too low to see from the bed!!? Noisy park nearby with locals gangs hanging about till after midnight. Café/Bar shabby and unwelcoming, not for the single female traveller.
Review 102:Good location for my meetings
Review 103:The hotel it self is dated and to bring it into the style of the town would be a move forward
Review 104:The town it self is very nice in a good part of manchester
Review 105:The hotel was dirty and not maintained, staff were not really around, the room door was not to fire safety standards as it jammed shut and the bathroom door would not shut at all.
Review 106:I didn't like the fact that I had to carry my heavy cases up a flight of stairs to get to the lift. The place looked like a hostel, terribly dated, like something from the seventies. I seriously considered sleeping in my car on the car park instead. Terrible place!
Review 107:Nothing at all!
Review 108:this is a basic hotel in a nice little village one night stay for airport next morning, clean and comfortable no frills if you are on a budget the price is good.if you are looking for more out of a hotel book elsewhere.about twenty minutes to airport by taxi.
Review 109:child bed had hairs in it and could feel springs no bulbs in some lights we was told there would be shuttle bus but staff looked bemused as they dont have a shuttle bus service. reception said taxi £10 got to airport and they said £15
Review 110:staff friendly
Review 111:There was nothing l did'nt like l suppose it could have had a new carpet in the communal areas.
Review 112:I liked the hotel as it was a good location easy access to Station, close to my Daughter and her partner. very friendly and clean.
Review 113:No porter. Had to carry luggage from the lift on stairs by myself inspite of requesting the receptionist. No wifi in the room initially . Called family from the bar as no place to sit in the reception No facility of dinner No information cards in the room TV remote not working No heating system inspite of requesting. Was told someone coming up nobody came. Slept uncomfortably
Review 114:Good location Surrounded with shops Good taxi service
Review 115:This hotel needs updating badly..it has good potential with a great location for pubs ...club...bars and restaurants as well as shops ..it would make such a difference.
Review 116:The staff were great .. The room was a decent size .. Great location in middle of Hale..
Review 117:have stayed at hotel several times and always been satisfied, but loud music until early hours and had very early start so little sleep' Disappointing after previous experiences.first time disappointment
Review 118:easy booking, convenience of hotel, friendly staff.
Review 119:Lack of decent food very poor for a britannia and I pay to stay at a much better britannia and get my breakfast at least
Review 120:Staff member very helpful with my case as can't climb stairs
Review 121:There was no air conditioner in the room and it wasn't a bit cold for me,but that is may be I came from warmer country
Review 122:Customer service and a receptionist-really kind guy
Review 123:1. No remote for TV in room totally missing? Also, TV was absolutely massive, about 20 years old and was sat on some sort of bench in the middle of the room, very inconvenient. 2. The room was small, very dated and in need of a makeover. 3. Bathroom small and also needs refurbishment, some chipped/damaged tiles in evidence. 4. Single glazed window street over entrance, very noisy coffee shop below in the evening and morning.
Review 124:1. Breakfast was OK, good choice available 2. Desk staff friendly and helpful staff. 3. Location was central to Bowdon
Review 125:The whole hotel needs a lick of paint The bathroom Didnt smell great And the room smelt musty Walls are thin had to listen to couples having sex loud at 4am
Review 126:The fact that I could have my dog stay The staff were really friendly and helpful
Review 127:very old furniture, ripped chairs, shower at 11pm and bath not drained by leaving time at 4am
Review 128:Nice staff, basic room, cheap (ish), bed was comfortable. Was fine for the airport but even the cheap price you pay seems high considering how rubbish it is!
Review 129:Difficult to find in the dark. No illuminated signage. No parking. Parked in neighbouring car park which turned out to be Co op supermarket. Found parking ticket on car in morning.
Review 130:Convenient location in Hale
Review 131:Early morning check out did not acknowledge our presence he just took the keys grunted and went back to watching TV. Rooms in serious need of refurb. Early 80s TV , chairs grubby. Positive, Evening barman pleasent
Review 132:From the start when we couldn't find the hotel due to no street signage , to ringing the hotel to speak to a snooty receptionist whose only directions were 'it's beside Costa Coffee' (bearing in mind it's 11pm so Costa in darkness)' ... It didn't bode well! Entering the hotel through a dirty carpeted entrance which obviously hasn't seen a duster or a Hoover in months , you get to reception which is empty but has a bell which doesn't ring. Young girl did come back & checked us in ... No pleasantries at all. Up to room on 4th floor which in one word was disgraceful! Dirty marks on wall , double bed was two single beds not even parallel but lengthways , manky dirty carpet & dust everywhere. I refused to stand on carpet without shoes! Only saving grace was a very clean bathroom .... If it wasn't 11.30pm we would have left. Tried to open window but falling apart so were afraid too. Up at 8am as we couldn't wait to leave. Again no pleasantries, indeed no greeting at all at reception on departure nor from the manager we passed in reception. I'm a believer in you get what you pay for but in this case it isn't even worth £20 as cleanliness does not cost. Thankfully never again!
Review 133:Nothing unfortunately!
Review 134:Dirty. Room in desperate need of decorating. Crack in sink.Wifi only available in the bar area. Graffiti on lift door. Car park only free after 6pm.
Review 135:Fairly close to Manchester Airport.
Review 136:There was mould around the bathtub and on the shower curtain. The property was very difficult to find in the dark due to lack of signage and minimal outdoor lighting.
Review 137:Value for money and proximity to Manchester Airport.
Review 138:No Wi-Fi in rooms, a little scruffy.
Review 139:This hotel is just fine - it does what it says on the tin. It is not smart or posh and does not have fantastic facilities. But the location is good, the rooms a good size and clean. I will stay again as it is good value for money and refectory adequate.
Review 140:Hotel was dirty, smelt, totally terrible ,bed was to hard to sleep in so we left after 3 hour and went home, basically I would not leave my dog in this hotel, and booking.com should never have it on there site
Review 141:The curtains were falling off The chairs were ripped The shower curtain was disgusting The light didn't work I know I didn't pay much and maybe it was so cheap because the hotel is awful but it's still not worth the little I paid. The picture for the hotel was not a true representation of how it looks so it took ages to find Never again.
Review 142:How close it was to Manchester airport
