Reviews for Sami Beach Hotel

Review 1:Bathroom is small... Breakfast relatively basic. Many (repeat?) guests from the UK enjoying a good time at the pool bar in the evening...and somewhat loud. ( but not too late so not really a problem)

Review 2:Great location, by the sea side and 20 mn walking distance to Sami. Extremely friendly owners and personel. Great pool with enough loungers and sun / shade spots to satisfy everyone! Easy parking.

Review 3:The breakfast is fantastic but otherwise there is quite limited food available - between 1-3pm you can have a (wonderful if you like them) Greek salad or an omlette or toastie, other than that you will need to walk to Sami for food. I was very happy with what was on offer for lunch and there is a good range of tavernas in Sami for the evening, my boyfriend felt he would have liked more options though as he doesn't like cheese. The bathroom is quite basic, but in my experience this is fairly normal in Greece and whilst some things were not terribly robust, as soon as we mentioned a problem it was fixed right away.

Review 4:Incredibly friendly and welcoming family who were very accommodating. The location is perfect for exploring some of the most beautiful parts of the island and for just relaxing where you are. It is worth noting that most of the residents seemed to be regulars and quite a bit older than we were so some younger couples might feel a bit out of place (we didn't mind this ourselves).

Review 5:No bad experience at all.

Review 6:This is the friendliest place we have ever stayed at. The proprietors and every one of their staff were lovely people, whom we can hardly wait to renew acquaintance with next year. The location, facilities and views (front and back) were all excellent. A particularly welcome feature are the full-length mosquito screens in the bedrooms, meaning that you can sleep with the window open (we hardly needed to use the air-conditioning once) and wake to the sound of the sea (if you have a front-facing room) or to the delightful sheep/goat-bells if, like us, you face the mountains and gardens at the rear.

Review 7:Great hotel with a great location . Excellent helpful & friendly staff . Being a family run hotel meant nothing was to much trouble. Would go again.

Review 8:Nothing negative

Review 9:The owners and staff at the hotel are genuinely lovely people and create a warm and friendly atmosphere. The location is outstanding and an ideal spot for exploring the rest of the island. The hotel is spotlessly clean and has a large pool and plenty of sunbeds. We rarely travel to the same place twice but will be returning.

Review 10:We would like to thank you for the great time, your kindness and the great service. It was exactly the type of vacation my best friend and I were looking for. The owners (Maryann, Yiannis, Pericles) and the whole team wowed us beyond expectation. They perfectly understood our needs & personalised their services accordingly. They made us feel really at home. On our last day, we were also pleasantly surprised & touched to have the owners personally accompany us to the taxi and wish us a safe trip home. During our stay, we observed that the hotel had a lot of regular customers who appreciate the superior level of service at this establishment The rooms & the swimming pool were always impeccable. The garden is beautiful and it is surrounded by lovely palm trees, herbs and flowers. The hotel is very close to Sami (a very nice walk along the shoreline) and to Karavomylos, which is located just a few steps away from the hotel; both places have several taverns, bars, bakeries, restaurants and greengrocers. Every evening, we went to different taverns and we were always really well taken care of and the food was simply delicious. I will definitely come back to Sami Beach Hotel!

Review 11:All of the hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They made us feel welcome and at home from the first to last minute of our stay. We have travelled extensively in Greece and the Greek islands and this is our best best experience so far. We will go back again and will recommend Kefalonia and the Sami Beach Hotel to our friends.

Review 12:The owners and staff were lovely and so helpful. The hotel overlooks the sea and is a short walk along the shoreline to several cafes and restaurants.

Review 13:Nothing to dislike!

Review 14:Went with friends who had been before - and can see why. Hotel is spotlessly clean, run by delightful Greek family and aided by wonderful staff (nothing is too much trouble), easy walk into Sami for tavernas etc although a few very close by. Rooms very comfortable and have new bathrooms. All in all thoroughly recommend.

Review 15:Rooms were a little tired and lacked the usual comforts ie a good television, tea making facilities. The breakfast was lacking in choice and the constant bellow from the waitress of "smile its a nice day" was a little irritating. Also because many of the residents return every year it can be a little daunting for newbys

Review 16:The hotel staff and owners were friendly. Ambience of the hotel was good. .

Review 17:The Sami Beach Hotel is the friendliest hotel I have ever stayed in. Maryann, Yiannis, Periklis and the team make you feel like you are part of the family, and nothing is too much trouble. In the past I’ve always stayed in larger, more impersonal hotels, so it was such a lovely change to stay in a hotel where the staff know your first name and always greet you with a big smile. The location of the hotel is stunning, right on the beach and a short stroll from Sami, and the pool is also a really good size too. I’d recommend hiring a car (the hotel will be able to help you with this) as there is so much to see in Kefalonia!

Review 18:The family can by do enough for you. So many people revisit Sami Beach Hotel - we met people who had been going for 26 years and this was or second trip. Location beautiful, hotel relaxing and all so very welcoming and friendly!

Review 19:Staff were lovely, friendly, and attentive. The rooms were spacious enough and pleasantly decorated. Breakfast was nice with a good selection of food. Kefalonia is an island to explore and Sami is a great base to do it from. A car is essential for enjoying all it has to offer. Ithaca is a must for two days not just one.

Review 20:The breakfasts were fine although it would have been nicer if there was more fresh local fruit on offer.

Review 21:What made our stay really nice were the owners and staff who work here. They do everything they can to make sure you enjoy your visit. They organised a hire car for us at a really good price, we changed money through them and they booked us onto a local boat trip. We even asked for a late check out which was absolutely no problem at all, we were able to stay in the room until 6pm. We just found them very warm and welcoming, really lovely people. The other guests, most of them returning, were also really friendly. A lot of the guests in September were older couples with no children so it was a nice time to visit as it was quieter there. The hotel itself is nice, it's in a great location walking distance from Sami where there's lots of restaurants and a few shops. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool for a few days. The rooms were fine, they each have a balcony and air con, are very clean and have new bathrooms with a great shower. If we return to Kefalonia we'd like to stay here again and have already recommended the hotel to friends.

Review 22:Just some small notes here. Would be nice to have more varied breakfast (personally, I prefer more cheeses and more fruits) The noise from the adjacent room could really disturb if the balcony doors are open.

Review 23:Amazingly friendly and helpful family hosting the hotel. They spent so much time helping with our problems - no such thing could be in chain hotels. Lovely rooms: clean and good-furnished. A fan in the room makes a nice breeze. Exceptionally clean bed linen. Nice pool and area around it. Picturesque surroundings. Huge library.

Review 24:The only issue we had was that there are no tea making facilities in the room, so unless you take your own travelling water heater, you have to wait for breakfast for the first morning cuppa! Less of an issue in the evening because the bar sold coffee so you could have a night cap on your way from dinner to bed

Review 25:We spent a week there in mid-September 2014. The hotel is very handily positioned for easy access to all areas of the island. The facilities are excellent with the rooms very comfortable including wide beds meaning better sleep. It is also very quiet with no noise from the nearby beaches meaning sleep was restful as well. The 25 metre pool was magnificent really, you could treat it as a daily training swim if you chose! Breakfast was plentiful and available from 7 till 10 am and the staff unerringly helpful and jolly. It is a family owned business so everybody had a vested interest in creating a great atmosphere. They even lent us towels because we had not taken any of our own for use round the pool. The nearest taverna was about 500 meters, but there was a great choice in Sami town which was only 15 to 20 minutes walk along the beach-side, or 5 minutes by taxi

Review 26:The spa was cold & did not appear to be well kept. Loud & noisy breakfast atmosphere ('though I appreciate this is a personal preference only). No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The bed is extremely 'firm'. Old style small televisions in the rooms.

Review 27:Good sized pool & very clean. Rooms are serviced every day & very clean. Lovely grounds with plenty of grass areas. Recent upgrades to bathrooms. Nice walk into town along a beach walkway. Lovely staff who will do whatever they can to make sure you enjoy your holiday.

Review 28:Being frequently reminded to smile at breakfast, or perhaps I'm a little too British?

Review 29:Clean, owners continually keen to improve hotel, excellent pool and poolside bar, good choice for breakfast, near Sami, next to beach, helpful owners.

Review 30:We had read the very positive reviews of this hotel and for the first time we were badly let down. We had also checked Tripadvisor where members of the hotel staff responded in perfect English and other foreign languages to previous criticisms. But we were deceived and wish we had taken these criticisms seriously. This hotel is extremely overpriced for what it offers. We had a small and dark room with a garden view. Our room had a terribly old toilet with pipes exposed and was in a state in which we haven't seen even in hostels. One could hear the noise from the upper floor toilets (taking shower and flushing). The towels were also very hard and unpleasant to use. While the swimming pool is OK, the tennis court is badly run-down and the "rackets" provided by the hotel staff were old, broken, and an overall embarrassment. The beach in front of the hotel is average at best considering the wealth of options in the area. While the breakfast was fine (avoid boiled eggs, which did not look particularly fresh) what was disturbing was the relentless command to "smile please". We noticed however that some people seemed to enjoy this weird atmosphere. And then there were those, mostly part of the rather sad drinking group gathering around the pool bar in the evenings, who also seemed to enjoy this hotel. All in all, a rather depressing picture.

Review 31:Nothing to like especially at this price.

Review 32:Great location right on the beach Very quiet and tranquil Clean and very good facilities, nice shower Good breakfast Friendly staff and great hosts

Review 33:Having to leave on the 8th day!

Review 34:The hosts - are truly devoted to their guests and providing a relaxing and happy experience. There is an amazing pool with half sea water makes for comfortable swimming in the cleanest pool in Greece. Close to what we thought the best beach on the Island - Agia Paraskevi: Crystal blue waters, the best snorkeling on the Island, small coves where you can feel a million miles away. Its easy to see why people return to the Sami Beach year in, year out. It doesn't get any better!

Review 35:I liked the people who ran the hotel. This is a family concern and there is a lovely atmosphere here. All staff clearly care. The surroundings were all very well kept and very pretty gardens. Rooms were clean and comfortable with lovely new bathrooms.

Review 36:The beach itself outside the hotel isn't wonderful and you really need wet shoes to walk on the stones and into the sea. The free WiFi is not the quality of broadband that I am used-to at home although I suspect this has more to do with the Greek service provider than the hotel. I was saddened that the quality of food in the Sami and other nearby Tavernas was not as good as 8 years ago: Probably a result of the economic problems of recent years.

Review 37:The Doriza family are just the nicest warmest people you could ask to meet. Nothing is too much trouble for them to ensure their guests get everything they need. I had stayed in a villa in Sami 8 years ago and regarded it as the prime resort in Kefalonia and had met one or two of them when picking up and returning the villa keys and this led to my choice of hotel on for this holiday. It is worth going there for the Pantomime breakfast each morning - it fills you with good humour for the rest of the day. The hotel is kept spotless and bed linen and towels are changed daily. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Kefalonia even if the more expensive hotels lowered their price so that they were the same as those at Sami Beach.

Review 38:There is a real family relaxing feel to this place and the family just can't do enough for you. It's a simple chilled haven in a fabulous setting and you are made to feel relaxed, chilled and very welcome by everyone. It has a 3 star rating but bathrooms were that of a 4 star and I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone wanting this type of holiday.

Review 39:It remains a 3 star hotel without any additional luxuries, but if you're up for a personal holiday with great service, then this is the place for you.

Review 40:It is a family run hotel, and they will make you feel like family while you're there. Very service oriented and friendly

Review 41:Nothing in particular.

Review 42:Good to have taken care of our luggages when arriving and leaving. Gave us important advices on where, when and how we should visit the points The room is spacious and easy to use.

Review 43:Access to the island through local ferries has become more difficult since les frequent ferries. Also difficult to obtain correct ferry info before departure.

Review 44:Very warm welcome ( at 02h30). Owners who go out of their way to make the holiday one of a lifetime. Hotel situation is perfect for those who wish to recharge and relax. Rooms simple and v clean with comfortable beds, 'fridge, a/c + ceiling fan. Sea at 50 m, shade and breeze under palm trees. Pool and gardens well-cared for. Experience to be repeated without doubt.

Review 45:When it was time to leave we all had tears in our eyes and can't wait to return again sometime

Review 46:Fantastic hotel in excellent location (quiet but near enough to walk into town for dinner); very clean and wonderful facilities (large swimming pool, gardens, tennis court & table tennis); the family who run the hotel welcome guests with warmth and charm providing assistance, recommendations and anything one could possibly need (in my case crutches, bandages, plus Maryann's care and kind attention) always with a smile. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and completely understand why guests return year after year. My 7 year old felt like he had a grandfather (Janis) for the first time and my 17 year old chatted late into the night with barman Pericles... A perfect holiday destination !

Review 47:No dislikes

Review 48:Great location but people were the star. Marianne and Iannis really understand that they are in the hospitality business and are a credit to the country. Mr & Mrs Q. Based in NE England.

Review 49:Not much to say here.

Review 50:Lovely place. So beautiful and picturesque. The staff was so helpful and cheerful. Having arrived at 6:00am, we were warmly received and greeted with coffee, tea and biscuits. After such a long flight, it was a very appreciated welcome!

Review 51:The family who run the hotel are really nice and welcoming. They made us feel really at home, as if we had a family in Kefalonia. The hotel is located in a beautiful and quiet place. Just perfect for the type of holiday we were hoping for.

Review 52:I could hear conversations from others on their balconies and the couple in the next room argued for hours. The wifi could be slow. All of the other guests were much older than me (in their sixties). Fridge didn't seem to be working well & there were no plates or cutlery in the room. The staff showed me to a room that was already occupied, but apparently it was because guests checked out and then returned to the room (perhaps query the security).

Review 53:The husband and wife team bent over backwards to help me with everything (luggage, nearby attractions, etc etc) - it felt like I was staying with my favourite relatives. Fantastic pool, huge new shower head and great breakfast. There are lots of books to read & they even offered to let me take one with me when I left. The grounds are beautiful (lots of grass, hills, tennis courts) and I had a great view from my room and could hear the nearby cows mooing and watch the storm roll in and the sun set. They upgraded me which was kind. Lots of activities - table tennis, tennis, huge pool, beach & library. Restaurants in walking distance.

Review 54:everything was first class

Review 55:Hospitality Yannis, Mayann and brother all very helpful. Staff all very pleasant and helpful. kept some of our luggage while we travelled to other islands, and what a welcome and hugs when we returned for 2 nights. M & R Antrim

Review 56:I only stayed here one night, in transit from Leukada, but the owner and staff did everything to make me feel welcome. My flight was not until quite late on the day of my departure, but they very kindly allowed me to stay on in the room and arranged a transfer to the airport for me. The location was good, with a lovely and well maintained pool and a generous buffet breakfast. Staff were cheerful and smiling at all times. Highly recommended, I hope to make a longer stay in future.

Review 57:Nothing I didn't like.

Review 68:People and place lovely

Review 69:Really great stay at the Sami beach hotel. Very warm welcome and great location.

Review 70:Wonderful hosts. The sea view. The pool. The location. The choice of restaurants

Review 93:it would be nice to have better quality food on offer at lunchtime

Review 94:location, welcome, pool, grounds, ambience

Review 95:Beds were too small

Review 96:They made us feel right at home and welcome.

Review 97:Good location, in front of the sea, a short walk to the small city of Sami, good swimming pool, nice and fresh breakfast, and a great staff!

Review 98:We had a lovely stay at this hotel. A great welcome on arrival, lovely clean room, beautiful views, very friendly staff who just wanted us to have a great time. Nothing was too much trouble. Pool clean and well looked after. Grounds and plants looked lovely and well cared for and we would definitely stay here again - great positive feel to the hotel.

Review 99:The only think we didn't like was having to leave and say goodbye

Review 100:I stayed at this hotel 4 years ago and always wanted to return. I was not disappointed when I returned this year. Maryanne,Yiannis and Pericles were the same as I remembered them, very friendly and welcoming. They make you feel like one of the family. The hotel is situated by the side of the sea with lovely views out towards Ithaka and other Islands. We were given a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the tennis court and a green area with views of the Mountain. At night the area was alight with twinkling Glow bugs and sitting and watching this from our balcony was quite magical. The rooms were clean and spacious and have recently been renovated. The shower was multi functional with two heads, one fixed and one adjustable with a good temperature control. Breakfast options are very good with never ending supply of coffee or tea served by very friendly staff

Review 101:Could be a little noisy early in the morning if you had rooms near reception as we did

Review 102:Staff very friendly Rooms very clean Pool and bar area very clean and relaxing

Review 103:Leaving to come home.

Review 104:Genuine warmth of the hoteliers and their staff - incredible hospitality. The beauty of the area. So easy to completely relax. Good variety of transport if/when needed.

Review 105:Not alot

Review 106:The hotel is a family hotel with a great feel to it Most of the people we met have been there year after year which in itself say everything the family of Janis, Pericles and Marianne are the friendliest people you will ever meet. Please don't expect 5 star service but homely and responsive you will get

Review 107:The family who runs the hotel is incredibly warm and they take care of every single detail and customer. As soon as they knew we were in our honeymoon they did their best to make us feel at home and they got it!

Review 108:I wished the wi-fi in the room was better - the signal was weak.

Review 109:The owners and staff are wonderful, friendly, helpful, and interesting. They gave us lots of tips and ideas of where to go on the island. Breakfast was good and plentiful. I would return for another stay!

Review 110:We traveled with our 2 adult sons to the Island and stayed for 4 nights, We wanted to stay in a quiet family run hotel and not a big chain. Pericles, Maryann and John, the owners, were absolutely the most genuine friendly persons we encountered in Greece during our 3 week travels. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We especially appreciated the warm family atmosphere and the clean comfortable rooms, as well as the great buffet breakfast each morning. The hotel was ideally located that permitted us to drive to the family village and to Agia Effemia. We would highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Keffalonia. What a gem!!! The Johnson Family

Review 111:A lovely hotel in an excellent location run by a wonderful super-friendly family who could not be more helpful in providing information, helping to book trips and car hire and greeting everyone with enormous warmth. The hotel is in a lovely village 10 minutes' walk along the beach from Sami. Highly recommended.

Review 112:We traveled with our 3 teenagers to the island and the hotel was a wonderful place to stay! The free breakfast was a nice addition to the already fabulous accommodations which this family owned and run hotel offers! Exceptionally clean rooms and friendly staff were there to help with every need and recommendation this majestic island had to offer!! Would highly recommend this establishment based on our experience! Maryann the owner along with her husband were a total delight~love them and would not hesitate to stay here again as many of the others who visit here do!!!

Review 113:I didn't dislike anything.

Review 114:I loved everything about Sami Beach Hotel, lovely people, beautiful views, excellent service, short walk into Sami, quiet location.

Review 115:I loved the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The whole staff were so welcoming. Also the hotel was quiet and relaxing. It is situated in an ideal spot with beautiful grounds with the sound of the water lapping in the bay. The facilities were just right - not a massive resort hotel - just perfect. The owners were fabulous - helpful and accommodating in every way without being intrusive, a perfect holiday.

Review 116:Found the shower very difficult as we had to climb in the bath with very little room to use the shower

Review 117:Very friendly atomosphere, All the staff were very caring and helpful
