Reviews for Barrington Lodge
Review 1:The bedside light did not work, and the shower could do with a less slippery base. I fell and was quite badly shaken
Review 2:The location was perfect for me, and the staff were extremely cheerful and helpful. Breakfast was good value.
Review 3:Our room was a bit small although as it was only for one night it was not much of a problem. Would not have been so good if our stay had been longer.
Review 4:Brilliant breakfast, well worth the extra paid for it. Great position for us as we have family living very close and walk into Crawley was about 15 minutes.
Review 5:Could do with a refurb. Paying 5 pound for Wifi that would not work in the room was a little cheeky. Shower head broke whilst changing pressure settings and was charged to replace it. Hotel is quite far from anything.
Review 6:Nice, basic hotel
Review 7:Leak near window dripping onto hotel phone. Room was not cleaned or bed made the following day. poor cleaning in en suite Shower didn't work, had to put it on cold or stop to get hot water out. no hot water out of sink whatsoever
Review 8:Decor in room was good
Review 9:The hotel is a nice building but unfortunately it is tucked away in the middle of a "not so nice" housing estate and very hard to find (no clear signs) spent 15 mins looking for it. Asked about food and receptionist said she would cook something for us but the menu looked very dull and basic so we went to the pub across the road, packed of people watching football and no food being served so we went back to the hotel. The receptionist showed us to the cold breakfast room where we selected our meal, i chose a chicken curry and asked for half rice, half chips, the receptionst Aka the cook looked at me perplexed, this would not be possible since she did not know how to run this through the till and i would need to order a full dish to have chips instead (e.g. chicken nuggets and chips) in the end it was easier to agree to just have rice, thinking it would come with a naan, poppadum etc but nothing just chicken, sauce and rice which clearly came from a microwave (you could hear the microwave door open and close and the ping when it finished) after all that i still sent it back because it was cold. Asked for a bottle of wine but they only sell small bottles for £3.95 advertised as a shiraz but came as a disappointing (and very cold) red blossom hill. You won't be surprised to hear we didn't bother paying £6.99 for breakfast. During our stay other people were complaining about the length of time spent waiting at reception to check in (the receptionist wasn't there because she was cooking for us!) Shame because this could be a nice little hotel, good size family room etc just needs more staff on, better food menu and a more varied drinks menu.
Review 10:It was clean The family room was a good size It was warm enough Parking was ok
Review 11:To begin with, I hope you have sat nav, because otherwise you will spend a lot of time trying to find this establishment which is situated in the middle of a housing estate with little or no directional signage. There was no hot water in the morning throughout the lodge, a recurrent problem as I understand (informed by member of staff) as the same problem occurred the week before!! The shower did not work at all. The sink tap was leaking all night and no water was provided through the hot sink tap at all. The breakfast was luke warm and I had to wait 10 minutes before being asked whether I wanted tea or coffee. The deluxe room!! (304) had so many low angled ceilings in it that I was constantly banging my head against various ceilings. On the day of my arrival at circa 5.30pm , I was met by a young lady from the adjacent housing estate in the shared car park swearing at the top of her voice to her boyfriend about the fact that he did nothing but smoke drugs and she was having his baby, only to be followed by her kicking the side of his car in just outside the car park entrance (if you've ever seen "Shameless", then this place will ring a bell);a warm can of stella artois, without a glass, as apparently there was no cold beer in the fridge and they don't have a bar; and finally, when on the morning of my departure, without being able to shower or shave in hot water (a reasonable expectation in the western world these days), I complained to the receptionist and asked whether any sort of reduction would be forthcoming. It was explained to me, most politely, that the Manager was off for the weekend but her mobile number was provided. This number was rung, and on speaking to the manageress, who was most indignant that her "private" number had been given out, promised to review my booking and come back to me the following day.
Review 12:The polish girls working at the lodge try their hardest but it is obvious that the facility is seriously understaffed and badly maintained
Review 13:The room was cold - the hot water didn't work in the sink, they charged me twice for the rooms and the receptionist didn't know how to refund my card for the double charging.
Review 14:The curtain was hanging off, kettle too big to put under the tap, different cups, tiles coming up on the bathroom floor, no plug in the sink and there were black marks around the base of the shower.
Review 15:Room was tiny, on the cold side and decor was very old in room compared with bathroom which was more modern. The sound proofing wasn't to good as you can hear people in other rooms and all doors opening / closing but all this is reflected in the price as it was cheap at £47 per night.
Review 16:Friendly and welcoming staff, free onsite parking, my room was a small delux single ensuite room, clean, complimentary tea / Coffee / toiletries, small tv, extremely comfortable bed.
Review 17:Good location in terms of getting on m23 to London or a23 to Brighton but odd as part of a councill estate??? No free wifi, very small ensuite.
Review 18:Clean rooms, very comfortable and big beds. Friendly and efficient staff. Lovely big English breakfasts. Very reasonable price.
Review 19:Wood pannelling made the rooms very dark and our toilet had a leakage issue. The bathroom extractor didn't work and the room felt a bit absent of atmosphere. Some nicer decor and a refresh would be nice.
Review 20:A lovely nights stay. Honestly one of the best nights slee I've ever had. Twice in a row!.. The bed was really comfy and the blackout curtains really did create a blackout!.. Even during the day!..
Review 21:Location wasn't the best - tucked away in an area surrounded by local authority buildings.
Review 22:Friendly staff and an overall attractive building. Good size room.
Review 23:The room was quite small for a deluxe, the hot water tap didn't work, the bed, especially the pillows were very uncomfortable.
Review 24:Staff were very friendly and good location
Review 25:I stayed Monday to Friday and my room was not cleaned the whole of mystay. I went and told front desk that I had no clean towels and my roomhad not been cleaned, my bed was never made the whole of my stay, and nosugar was refilled. When I arrived back on the night before check out, 2towels had been replaced, that was good but the problem was they were 2very small hand towels, it was very late I had already undressed so wasforced to use these tiny towels. Again there was no body at front deskin the mornin to complaine too. Also the shower curtain is terrible.Reminds me of a blanket. And toilet seat was broken, no back to it, andI had to put my fingers in the hole to flush as flusher was broken
Review 26:Room was clean on arrival. Bed was comfortable. Lady at front deskwas friendly. Shame about the cleaning otherwise it would have been anice stay.
Review 27:Although the interior looked new, only half of the lightbulbs were working, the faucet was loose and there was no safe in the room (which was listed in the description).
Review 28:Staff was not overwhelmingly friendly, but helped when needed. Big parking lot. Going to town or the train station takes about a 15 min walk. Train to london victoria approx. 55 min.
Review 29:Very difficult to find. Really an old property. The initial staff member was very pleasant and helpful. The one the morning we checked out wasn't.
Review 30:Tried to find something close to Gatwick. It was the cheapest available and now I can understand why.
Review 31:Could have done with more housekeeping staff. We had no towels but when we asked for them, they got them straight away. Thought the breakfast was expensive so we ate elsewhere.
Review 32:Easy to find, although you wonder if you're going the right way - it's randomly placed in the middle of a bunch of flats. Room was good, shower good, bed comfortable. Pub one minute walk away.
Review 33:Arrived at 20.00 restaurant was closed. Had to go looking for towels as none had been left in the room.
Review 34:The pub around the corner did reasonable meals and was open when they said it would be.
Review 35:Chipped cup also cups not very clean in room. Broken door handle on en-suite and broken tap also in en suite. Pull out bed settee mattress very thin so could feel metal of bed, dirty fireplace. Lampshades not fitted properly so would fall to the side, advertised as deluxe family suite totally was no way near, very disappointed.
Review 36:Single room poorly located at the top of the stairs where everybody passes. No bar or restaurant facilities
Review 37:television covered all channels and teletext.
Review 38:The shower did not work very well and the room did require maintenance.
Review 39:Good cooked breakfast. They made a special effort to obtain my wife's lactos free milk.
Review 40:Cover on Bed was torn and i'm hoping the stains were paint marks and should not have been used on the bed. The white under sheets were clean. We were asked night before if we wanted a full English in morning but in the morning we were not asked if we wanted everything and it was just put in front of us. I had to leave a lot of it as covered in bake beans and tomato to which I am allergic to. Also thick dust on all the dinning room chairs. Bathroom tap only gave cold water as hot water tap was broken. Little details that don't cost much can make a big difference to a pleasant stay.
Review 41:Staff very nice and helpful
Review 42:Uncomfortable bed and awful bed settee. Mixer not attached to basin, toilet dirty, shower dirty, even crockery and cutlery had been used and not washed. Curtains hanging from rails and net curtains dirty with holes in. Our 'deluxe' family room was next to reception which was noisy until 11pm and there was nothing deluxe about it.
Review 43:Nothing!
Review 44:Bed and pillows uncomfortable to our taste. Room and bathroom both small which did not bother us but may annoy others.
Review 45:Friendly helpful receptionists on the occasions we needed them. Room and bathroom clean.
Review 46:Dire hotel in a rundown area. Breakfast consisted of sour milk rancid butter burnt toast over cooked scrambled egg. They don't do cooked breakfast midweek so had to push even for this. Noisy drunken hotel guests retuned at 2:30am and made noise f'ing and blinding till 3:30am. I checked out early at a loss as no refund was available. I will never return.
Review 47:Not much to be honest.?
Review 48:It was overpriced, a Deluxe Family Suite wasn't a suite at all, it certainly wasn't Deluxe and it resembled nothing of the pictures on Booking.Com. The location is strange in the middle of what appeared to be a council residential estate. Bed was uncomfortable. Only two small hand towels to use between a family of 4.
Review 49:The staff were friendly with our young children which is always appreciated.
Review 50:rooms are in very poor condition. I couldn't sleep properly as doors banging all the time. Internet connection very slow and weak signal.
Review 51:Staff are very friendly
Review 52:Nice little lodge with character, friendly helpful staff, had a great sleep, its in a quiet location but with good transport links and the shopping center only a 10 minute walk!
Review 53:Very hard to get to without gps. Bad smell of mildew in room.
Review 54:Very clean linens, towels, etc and extremely quiet at night. It was the only place with rooms left in Crawley during Wimbledon.
Review 55:The room was too close to reception desk and was noisy at times.
Review 56:Close proximity to Crawley and a pub with great food and drink very close by. Clean comfortable room.
Review 57:Location-its situated in a very unpleasant housing estate. Enter carpark and it is unkept and scruffy with rubbish on ground. Room - smelt musty, was suppose to be deluxe for 2 adults with child and had 3 very soft single beds with 3 heavy musty smelling dovets. Towrls had stains washed into them and were thin and nasty. Heater in room had frayed and broken electrical cord hanging out and no sign to say do not use. Room not cleaned properly there was leftover beer bottle tops on floor from last people using room and cobwebs on curtains and windows. No one ever on reception. Took payment off card days before we arrived. Not worth any star rating. Very very disappointing.
Review 58:Absolutely nothing
Review 59:The room was dirty, the bathroom and the bedroom had paintwork peelingoff. There were big dirt stains on the carpets and the beds. The staffstood outside the room discussing work, guests and their private liveswhich prevented my sleep. The "vue" out of the window featuredvarious rubbish or unwanted items.
Review 60:Nothing!!
Review 61:abysmal housekeeping (no towels in room) and in room facilities. no lift and far too many stairs to reach the room. no phone contact with emergency staff in the night and early morning.
Review 62:I was given a towel folded up and placed on my bed, the towel had a hole the size if my head. I complained and all that was said was sorry. The shower was cold, woken up in the morning by staff chatting loud. Also money was taken from my account before I arrived. it clearly stated pay on arrival. terrible
Review 63:The bed was ok
Review 64:7.99 for breakfast! For that price should have all you can eat breakfast! I'm sureYou will still make money!
Review 65:The building very nice, beds comphy handy for local shops!
Review 66:room next to breakfast room, could not sleep got woken up by staff talking.i now know all about a staff member very unprofessional
Review 67:beds very nice, shower is hot and hold
Review 68:Room 3 downstairs was right next to the kitchen so when starting breakfast at 6.30 you could hear staff talking and cooking. We had to move rooms there was no tv remote in the room, wife is deaf so she needs subtitles.they moved us right away.
Review 69:Staff very friendly.quick to sort out small problem we had.pub 1 min walk away. close to crawley town fc. 5 min walk.
Review 70:The room was right off the main reception so could here people all the time. Multiple extension leads plugged into each other surely not safe. Ting bathroom, bed springs pinged every time you moved. Breakfast mmm well .. Wouldn't bother, leave and find somewhere else.. View out the window tatty wall and weeds ..
Review 71:The receptionist on the Sunday was pleasant .. That's about it!
Review 72:I booked a Deluxe room, when I arrived I was not happy with the room it was not what I would call Deluxe. Also the TV was not fitted the wall right and I had no towels on arrival. I also stayed with you for 3 nights and within those 3 nights my room was not cleaned once or changed for fresh towels! Very disappointed.
Review 73:Location is a little bit poor but not in any way horrible, just tucked away in a housing estate with not many shops in walking distance.
Review 74:Helpful and friendly staff, rooms nice, en suites fine
Review 75:Thought the sat nav had gone wrong - the hotel is deep in the middle of a housing estate. Lovely quiet location though and well placed for gatwick (they advertise park and fly) and access to the south coast. Staff very accomodating - good value.
Review 76:Bodily stains on the bed cover, only one bath towel. breakfast poor & service appalling. when advised of the bedcover and when paid the bill, I wasn't even asked if we enjoyed our stay or anything.
Review 77:friendly receptionist when we arrived.
Review 78:The breakfast was just placed on your table without asking what you required apart from Tea or coffee. You were given a standard fried breakfast. This included things I would not have e.g. the mushrooms which even after removing them, left their taste on the eggs and bacon. The internet was poor, kept dropping out and was charged £5 for 24 hours.
Review 79:Very clean and tidy recently re furnished. Generally the staff were very friendly and helpful. Comfortable large size bed.
Review 80:Soon as we came after travelling 4hours the tv in the room did not work I imformed the reception who said she was too busy and nothing she could do! I was very unhappy then I ordered food at 8.00pm and everything I wanted was unavailable! Did not get any good customer service or even an apology. I would not stay here again
Review 81:The bed was comfortable
Review 82:bed was uncomfortable the bathroom needs consideration, the sink tap was moving, the ceiling peeled off dusty and not very clean
Review 83:good location, fast internet connection
Review 84:situated in the middle of a housing estate, very small rooms, pictures deceptive, very thin walls, very small 10inch tv, like it or lump it attitude.
Review 85:nothing
Review 86:Not great shower. A bit dated. World still use again. Area feels rough but was OK to walk to local shop
Review 87:Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean, shower not great. A bit dated but they tried to make all nice enough. Breakfast was £5 and good value. We would use again as easy to get to Gatwick. We were 3 adults and a toddler plus luggage and cost £18.50 for 7 seater Hotel room excellent value for money
Review 88:Tv was far too small. Shower very poor-no power and temperature impossible to control. Room was noisy and very small.
Review 89:Close to location visiting. Staff were friendly and accommodating.
Review 90:Pillows, duvet very thin. Bathroom sink tap didn't turn off, rooms furniture very tired and the table leg was broken
Review 91:Location was very good very near to town centre and to motorway. good value for money
Review 92:Found it difficult to locate as it appears to be in the middle of a residential area ..asked many people for directions but it wasn't known
Review 93:Staff member friendly and helpful on arrival.
Review 94:Only thing was not the fault of the lodge, a generator was placed in the car park , to give properties electric due to a fault, but was rather noisy hence why we changed rooms when arrived , but was going the following day we were told
Review 95:The staff were very welcoming, when we arrived we were a bit demanding, asking to change room, then we wanted a iron & ironing board which we received quickly, asked for ice again , arrived quickly all with your welcome . Where the lodge is situated it's very quite ideal if ur a light sleeper,, don't think your sat nav has gone mad its trucked away on the bk if a housing estate, , value for money would definitely return
Review 96:The bed was too soft and was actually 2 single mattresses pushed together so there was a gap in the middle. The shower kept changing temperature by itself. On arrival, the TV remote was sticky and dirty. No mobile reception in the room. The flush button was broken on the toilet, although we could still make it work.
Review 97:The price was really good. Staff were polite and friendly. Impressive sound from the TV.
Review 98:Very hard to find, impossible without a GPS. It was necessary to drive to find a pub which served food; the neighbourhood pub doesn't serve food on Sunday evenings. GPS was necessary to find a meal.
Review 99:Parking right outside. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Clean. Good internet connection.
Review 100:Failure to clean room during stay and failure to remove previous nights room service dirty crockery. Having to pay for wi-fi
Review 101:Politeness of staff. Breakfast start too late for majority of guests.
Review 102:A little difficult to find the first time.
Review 103:Excellent location, just off motorway, but within walking distance of station. Breakfast delicious and plenty of it! Pub next door, although didn't try it this trip.
Review 104:Nothing, it was perfect for me.
Review 105:The single room was quite small but the bed was comfortable and the room was well equipped with tv, kettle, wifi, wardrobe. The best thing though was the staff, they were terrific. They made me feel at home and told me about the things to do in the area, even printed out some brochures for me. And it was good value. I will definitely stay here again.
Review 106:1. The bed was not comfortable. Matrese was hard . 2. The room was cold and looked as if there was no any preparations before we got the room. Like, no towels in the bathroom. 3. The insute bathroom had a bath tab and shower curtain which was useless as water kept flowing on floor as you shower. The celling was too short that had to watch not to bump my head as I shower and getting off bed. In the end I did bump and hurt my head.
Review 107:1. The reception and welcoming from staff 2. Service in general.
Review 108:Room was too hot but I turned off the radiator and then was fine. Shower curtain needed replacing as old and torn.
Review 109:Welcoming helpful reception staff who was happy to show me the room before I paid for it. Room small but clean and bed very comfortable. I appreciated having hairdryer provided. Absolutely fine for a stopover and good value.
Review 110:Room 301 is a mezzanine room directly off the stairs between the 2nd & 3rd floors and as it has two steps down into it inside I'd be concerned about it's suitability in a fire evacuation scenario Stayed one night Dec 2014 - It was a very wet and windy night and the noise of the rain on the roof inside the room was not conducive to a good night's sleep. (I couldn't be moved as the place was fully booked). The position/angle of the wall mounted TV bracket could not be adjusted and just hung down on it's own weight which meant that the best place to watch the football was on the rickety/unstable chair at the desk underneath. Later I discovered that there was no hot water at the bathroom sink (as the tap spindle just spun on itself ) and I gave up trying to fill it with/from the en-suite electric shower head as that shower had a mind of it's own and the sink was very slow to drain. (On closer inspection, on removing the lever adjusted stopper, it was obvious that this had been so for some time). Finally on departure the next morning and as I waited for my taxi I was hoping to talk to the receptionist about the above but she was too engrossed in a phone conversation all about some other disgruntled guest from the previous day and for whom she was now getting grief.
Review 111:Ripped bed cover, small room, but the bed was huge! weird location on a housing estate.
Review 112:Huge bed, clean, nice room, polite, helpful receptionist, for the money paid was worth it.
Review 113:I lived on 1st floor, wifi was not good (=BAD) and it cost 5 pounds for 24h. It's too far to go to food store (TESCO) and there is no bus stops to Gatwick near the hotel. I took a taxi, it cost 8-10 pounds. Really you can book another hotel for this price near the bus stop and near the center of Crawley, where you can go to restaraunt and have a fun)
Review 114:Personal is very good. They help me to decide all my troubles)) No problems with hot water, TV worked well.
Review 115:Mattress was clearly very old as it had no spring left. Also lying on a slope. Pillows smelt. Towel rail falling off, mould in bathroom, shower didn't work properly, worst and cheapest toilet roll! Constant dripping noise which sounded like it was coming from the room above.
Review 116:Good value for money. Quiet area. Friendly staff.
Review 117:rowdy residents next to my room frayed net curtains freezing cold room - heating didn't work - had to use electric heater television had very limited availability
Review 118:Breakfast Staff serving breakfast
Review 119:Breakfast options were poor, offer was only for full English, no considerations for vegetarians or those that don't eat pork. the room at the top was very poky as i was unable to stand up and use the toilet and had to be provided with a free standing heater
Review 120:It was quiet, not too far from the centre
Review 121:The shower room is definitely due refurbishment, the toilet push flush was broken, the towel rail radiator chrome corroding, the shower tray silicone had some mould and the shower curtain arrangement more suited to student accommodation. That said the shower room was as clean as could be. Despite breakfast being value for money I would advise 1 decent sausage as opposed to the 2 cheap, nasty tasting things currently on offer.
Review 122:We booked the room for one night as we had a family event to attend nearby and wanted cheap accommodation. For the price we never expected to walk into the room to find on our towels, soap, shampoo, shower gel and shower cap. The room, although compact, was clean with a comfy double bed, tv, safe and coffee/tea making facility and we had no noise disturbance. For breakfast we chose the full English, 2 bacon, 2 sausages (see didn't like), beans, mushrooms, egg and 2 hash browns (when did they become English?) and toast, which was cooked once we had been seated, there were cereals, juices and pastries also on offer for you to help yourself, worth the money!
Review 123:The walls are incredibully thin, and I had neighbours who had obviously booked in for a night of passion, which I was party too for a substantial amount of time. Also people were leaving for early flights in the rooms above me and it was noisey as they walked up and down the stairs. Both spoilt my stay on the second night - particually as I was on business and needed to be refreshed the next day. Its not the hotels fault but I wouldn't stay again.
Review 124:Good location close to central Crawley Plenty of car parking Bathroom very clean and spacious shower Staff helpful and friendly Large king bed with good quality mattress Room good quality for the price. Overall this is a good value room for the price, much of the quality of a Travelodge or premier inn but at a fraction of the price.
Review 125:Reception not sure where closest shop is?? Got told to go to Crawley town yet found shops only 5min away. No wifi well unless you pay?! Thought we moved on in time? Mattress could really be replaced. Overall not to shabbi for the money.
Review 126:Proximity to Crawley town. Easy check in and out. Room was ok was expecting more but was sufficient. Great for one night stay.
Review 127:I don't complain about small things if I don't like something, I inform the reception and vote with my feet.
Review 128:The lady on reception was lovely. The room was great... would deffo stay again.
Review 129:Couldn't shave using wash basin as the pop up plug was missing and there was no hot water. Staff ignored when reported twice. 3rd time we were told it couldn't be fixed until the next day yet they had the plug in reception so knew about it before we arrived. On arrival we said we would like breakfast for the 2 days we were there. 2nd day we were told we couldn't have breakfast because we should have ordered it each evening but we're not told that. We were offered continental only but there were no croissants that day and we had to ask for toast (they only do white bread!) Very poor communication. Room was not serviced. We were not told or given a choice. Room was quite cramped with not much space around the bed and very narrow wardrobe. Could hear guests talking in next room. No sound insulation due to age of building.
Review 130:Comfy bed. Well cooked breakfast provided you order it each night. Building has character. Room well equipped and plenty of tea and coffee.
Review 131:Beds circa 1960, dirty throughout, poor decor, having seen the condition of the hotel and the filthy state of cleanliness I decided to eat breakfast out, was too busy to risk it. Looks good on the web site but don't book in here unless you have to would be my advice!
Review 132:nothing good to report I wish there had been something but I really cannot find a single thing. Even the car park was littered with scrapped cars!
Review 133:Disinterested staff - too busy watching the TV behind in the reception area. Advertising for set dinner on the reception desk that was not available. Although reminded every day my room was not made up until the day before I left. Duvet JUST big enough to cover the bed not the occupant. Shower tiny with cheap, thin curtain that billowed in.
Review 134:A little hard to find the hotel. It's not well sign-posted from the main road.
Review 135:Friendly staff, lovely from, excellent breakfast. Made a fuss of our two-year old son, which he loved.
Review 136:Cobwebs across curtains and down the wall.shower holder was broken had to hold the shower having to put it down to shampoo my hair and wash then pick it up to rinse not good shower working is a basic requirement I would have thought. Bed looked lovely was very uncomfortable had a lump on my side. The tv reception was hardly any and couldn't watch program it kept losing signal.no food available only chocolate or crisps very disapointing
Review 137:Staff were welcoming and friendly
Review 138:we were told when we asked that there was no evening meals available at the venue. We were given directions to the nearest pub - which was fine. However, on reading the literature in the room we realised food was available. We confirmed this with Becky on the Friday morning. Maybe the staff should all sing from the same sheet!!!!!
Review 139:convenient location for exploring West Sussex. The manageress on the Friday (Becky I think) was very helpful and friendly.
Review 140:Breakfast lacking in certain areas. No Pastrys. Wasnt asked what toast we wanted with are cooked breakfast. just brought it straight out. partner was still finishing her cereal.
Review 141:Staff
