Reviews for Best Western Stevenage - Roebuck Inn
Review 1:Staff provided bacon sandwiches for breakfast, as we were departing too early for breakfast. Had a good Indian meal at the hotel the previous evening.
Review 2:Very tired and neglected garden, bar, corridors, ladies loos, Generally appearance is in need of updating Please sort it out, we liked this hotel formerly
Review 3:Staff helpfulness and friendliness. Clean and comfy bed, Breakfast Ambience
Review 4:We arrived very late at night and the receptionist wasn't great. All in all, though, not the end of the world
Review 5:Beds were comfortable and room was clean. Fine for what it was - a cheap hotel room for one night.
Review 6:My single room was a bit dated and rather small, but comfortable enough and I knew what to expect as I've stayed there before, so it can't have been that bad if it didn't put me off.
Review 7:The free WiFi was great
Review 8:Very overpriced for room only. Last minute booking. Was local to funeral we had to attend but would have stayed at less pricer but nicer accommodation if had had the choice.
Review 9:One corridor was obviously having damp problems and it smelt a bit- but it was not an easy problem to fix based on my experience of building management
Review 10:the quiet and the sense of space
Review 11:In need of finishing touches. Toilet handle not secured Toilet door latch not closing door Curtain rail not to end of window Gap between window and frame
Review 12:Large room Comfortable bed Friendly staff
Review 13:Our only issue with our stay was that the staff member on the desk could not speak English very well - although it was the night shift when we arrived, the trouble with communication did cause us a delay in getting to our room, on a night where we just wanted to go to sleep. We had no issues with the staff member themselves, just the lack of knowledge of the English language was an unnecessary hindrance.
Review 14:Myself and two friends stayed at this hotel after being a day long music festival close by. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were nice and roomy and the facilities all worked how they should :)
Review 15:The access involved a number of steps, some steep and is not suitable for disabled. We were in a room a very long way from reception/dining room. This involved many steps/stairs Lighting could have been better.
Review 16:Staff were very good and helped with luggage due to the number of stairs. Food very good and staff attitude was excellent. Friendly and helpful they did take/collect our luggage for us.
Review 17:Bathroom a little dated but functional for one night stay
Review 18:Very pleasant staff and very polite. Clean very functional room. Pleasant stay and would use again.
Review 19:Didn't realise that it's also an Indian restaurant, now I don't mind Indian foo but there was definitely a lingering smell in reception, the rooms were fine though , no smells there...not terrible but just something to be aware of if your not into Indian food.
Review 20:Room was nice, location was easy to find and very convenient for where we were going. Fantastic Brekkie , cooked fresh for you which I really like, better than buffet style
Review 21:As Best Western hotels go this was average at best , Could do with a complete makeover The bar resembled a back street boozer and was very uncomfortable and quite intimidating we sought refreshments elsewhere ....
Review 22:The location was ideal as we travalled to watch football and chose the hotel because of it being near to the football ground
Review 23:The location. The sign wasn't big enough to see saying best western so we drove past twice. Only one bath towel for two people on the bathroom
Review 24:Not a lot
Review 25:There was only one person on duty desperately trying to do everything. This meant we had to wait for everything from check in to getting a drink.
Review 26:Bed was comfortable and big. Wifi was good. Room was clean.
Review 27:It would be nice to have the breakfast included in the price even if it's just tea and toast or put a toaster in the rooms that would be lovely
Review 28:The room was clean warm and cosy the bed was so comfy we didn't want to get up lovely old world charm with lots of rustic features staff were very friendly and although on a busy road we never heard a thing
Review 29:Slightly tired/dull decor Long corridors to get to accommodation, sometimes with an overpowering smell of stale spicy food was quite unpleasant at times.
Review 30:Excellent staff. One young woman seemed to be running the whole hotel, reception, waitress, manager and trouble shooter. Did everything with courtesy and a smile! plenty of biscuits on the tea tray
Review 31:The bedrooms need a face lift ie up date bathroom and bedroom furniture. The bed was comfortable.
Review 32:This is a 15th century Inn with lots of old charm etc.
Review 33:Stevenage is the worst town I've ever stayed in, second to none. That is not the fault of the hotel, however. Zero atmosphere in restaurant, generally dated decor, felt a bit strange due to hotel being off on another wing (long walk to rooms) no air conditioning, which might not matter 90% of the time but the night we stayed was an extremely hot and humid night so it made a difference to us.
Review 34:Friendly pub, very nice food in Indian restaurant, clean rooms, free parking, wifi,
Review 35:Being woken at 0530 with a drunken man standing at the end of my bed. Reception had given him the wrong key?
Review 36:simple clean functioning Hotel with all that you would want for an overnight stay
Review 37:Staff were very helpful
Review 38:Easily the worst Stevenage hotel I have stayed in.
Review 39:Not a lot.
Review 40:I was on crutches and distance to rooms from reception, also couldn't see any sort of disabled access,
Review 41:Great price, nice rooms,
Review 42:It was okay
Review 43:It was convenient for where I needed to be
Review 44:Dated
Review 45:The bed was comfortable the room service was very good but the corridors and reception area smelt damp and the carpets could do with a clean
Review 46:Friendly staff. Excellent Indian restaurant attached to hotel. Wide breakfast choice. Close to rail networks.
Review 47:Stairs
Review 48:Comfortable Bed Tea making facilities WiFi
Review 49:Friendly staff, basic but comfortable and clean room.
Review 50:Nothing at all.
Review 51:It was very convenient and easy to find especially as we did not know the area. It met all our needs for an overnight stay.
Review 52:The bar ... No real ales
Review 53:Nothing all was fine
Review 54:Pleasant hotel
Review 55:No lifts Location out of Stevenage
Review 56:Quite and clean
Review 57:Comfortable single room Nice and quiet
Review 58:Overpriced - more of a £49 hotel
Review 59:Tired dated place in need of a refurb. Was clean though
Review 60:No lift arrived late no help with luggage that had to be carried to the top floor. Booked for a family of 4 got a double bed and a single.
Review 61:Room dated, damp smell in the corridor
Review 62:Dirty
Review 63:Free wi fi and location
Review 64:décor clean and functional but dated
Review 65:Friendly and comfortable
Review 66:Relaxed comfortable stay
Review 67:TThe room was warm, clean and quiet. The bed very comfortable Staff welcoming and willing to please
Review 68:General decor is dated!
Review 69:Cold room In need of an update Although competitive price, quality didn't reflect it
Review 70:Location
Review 71:The restaurant onsite was excellent, you could even order to your room. Lovely staff, food size room, great breakfast.
Review 72:No real problems
Review 73:Good location welcoming staff very clean and comfortable, quiet. Biscuits were great with plenty of tea and coffee.
Review 74:Room was clean and quite. Good sized room for the price. Service at breakfast was good .
Review 75:Room needed a re-vamp
Review 76:Staff were excellent and helpful
Review 77:Distance from reception to the room
Review 78:Value for money
Review 79:The bed was awful. The springs were coming through the mattress and I had to put the pillows half way down the bed to cover the worst of them. The mattress also sloped to the left. I had a terrible sleep.
Review 80:The staff as per previous stays were all fantastic and lovely and extremely helpful.
Review 81:Very unkept garden/grounds. Sky tv in bar. Dated new part of building not in keeping with traditional old building
Review 82:cleanliness of room breakfast was good apart from overcooked bacon
Review 83:Very dated..needs upgrading, single room expensive for what was offered.. Outside area ie. gardens in need of attention.. weeds all round front entrances, very uncared for.Awake all night with knocking in central heating system.
Review 84:Staff friendly, rooms & bedding spotless, beds comfortable. Flat screen tv in room.
Review 85:Some of the steps and doors in corridors were not so easy to navigate with luggage. But overall no problems to report.
Review 86:Indian restaurant in the hotel is superb. Staff friendly. Great location for Knebworth and South Stevenage. Parking good and easy access. Room spacious and clean.
Review 87:The friendliness of the staff, the pleasant traditional restaurant, the breakfast was freshly cooked and served, the choice excellent. The bed was very comfortable and all the facilities functioned well. Good value for a three star.
Review 88:Long walk to room. External door access.
Review 89:Breakfast is hot and cooked to order. Nicest hotel brekkie I have had in years ( most keep warm in Bain Marie's and this is always ineffective). 10/10 for breakfast. Room was adequate for one night but it is a long walk to the room from reception. Hotel is a bit tired but nothing a bit of decoration wouldn't solve. We were at a function nearby and arriving back late means ringing a bell or phoning to get the door open. This is a bit of a pain these days. Most hotels have 24 access or a means to get in the front door (ie key access). Overall though the place is clean and tidy and the staff are welcoming
Review 90:I have been put off Best Westen following this stay! The first room offered didn't smell clean and had a pile of dirty linen in a heap in the room. Best Western standards have slipped.
Review 91:no blanket in room (I find duvets too hot), very pricey breakfast considering I don't have cereal, fruit or yogurt
Review 92:Comfortable room (128), friendly staff, breakfast was cooked perfectly, soft bed, nice range of items for cooked breakfast, quiet
Review 93:it was the pits, and I would never recommend it to anyone. you need to close it down and invest some money into making it respectable! 1) there was a horrible musty smell in the bedroom 2)the walls are too thin - I could hear the tv next door all night 3) its antiquated and out of date and dark and dreary 4) there was someone hammering at 3.30am 5) the alarm call booked for 7.00am came at 5.55am 6) the shower was rubbish 7) the heating was turned right up and far too hot, the thermostat on the radiator was broken 8) the bed was hard and uncomfortable 9) the corridor had dirty curtains, was dirty and uninviting need I go on......???
Review 94:absolutely nothing
Review 95:The bathroom was a little tied and in need of an update. Not clean in certain places.
Review 96:The staff are very friendly & the food in the restaurant was to a very high standard.
Review 97:The rubber window seal was damaged and let the noise in, the inside windows were dirty and there was fluff on the floor and this was supposed to be one of the better rooms ????
Review 98:The apples in the garden
Review 99:The rooms are some distance away from the original, old part of the building which is not great when you've got a hangover! Also, the main parking area is not clearly sign-posted so I needed one of the many, young, attractive ladies working there to point out to me that it is part of the nursing home next door.
Review 100:Helpful staff - got a drink at 1am without any bother. Can check in at any time as well. Didn't get a chance to try out the Indian restaurant but the breakfast was excellent and a lot cheaper if booked via www.booking.com. Loved the very old part of the establishment as it has a real rambling, character.
Review 101:The toilet did not flush which was a nuisance but feel sure they will put this right ASAP.
Review 102:Friendly atmosphere, very nice staff and helpful. Good location for me going into London.
Review 103:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast could not have been better and very reasonably priced, The bar with a t.v. complete with all sports channels - very comfortable and relaxing. Overall ambience of the coaching inn part of the hotel was excellent. All at a budget price.
Review 104:The room was a little tired and needs a little renovation.
Review 105:The Indian Restaurant, which was part of the hotel was welcome.Breakfast was excellent and the service from all staff was to a veryhigh standard. Easy parking. Tea making facilities. Comfortable bed.Generally clean.
Review 106:Finish serving food too early, 21:30. I had a meeting till that time andwhen it finished...so had room service
Review 107:I like the fact that the bar area is acctually a pub and not a typicalhotel bar.
Review 108:it took nearly 2 mins to get hot water through the taps--a great waste of water
Review 109:Friendly reception, offer of newspapers, breakfast, comfortable room plus extras eg hair dryer, tea making facilities etc, hassle free car parking, adjoining a lovely old country pub, good choice of meals available
Review 110:Dirty throw and stained carpets.
Review 111:Clean and comfy bed clean bathroom. Quiet
Review 112:One staff surly and unhelpful/downright rude.
Review 113:Tidy room. Most staff friendly and helpful.
Review 114:We only stayed one night , visiting relatives we found the hotel clean comfortable staff very polite and helpful
Review 115:rooms need to be redecorated bathroom seals black with dirt
