Reviews for The Clive Restaurant With Rooms
Review 1:The restaurant, whilst of a good standard, can be bettered by other restaurants in near-by Ludlow.
Review 2:We stayd in a suite, which was spacious, very attractively furnished and with an extremely comfortable bed. Locally produced or sourced foods are featured on the menus.
Review 3:Very good shower but in many places we have stayed they have a curved shower curtain rod which seems to work better.
Review 4:Loved the large, clean, comfortable rooms.
Review 5:The quality of food and drink products was excellent and at a very competitive price. A very spacious room sited at the back of the restaurant ensured a very peaceful stay. The food centre etc across the car park added a tempting distraction to the main purpose of your visit too
Review 6:No
Review 7:As a retired hotelier with PRACTICAL experience in the 'food & drink', and all the other facets of the hotel business, I reckon that they have got it right. Obviously there is always room to do better, if you don't someone else will come up and do so!
Review 8:Excellent accommodation. Stylish and comfortable. Delicious breakfast. Staff couldn't do enough for you. Would definitely recommend to others and would love to re- visit in the near future.
Review 9:Needed something to wipe your feet on. Visited in November so wet and plenty of leaves around. No air con...yes it was November, but the room became very stuffy, no fan in the bathroom, and despite the heated towel rail being turned right down...still far too hot.
Review 10:Lovely large, clean and welcoming room situated well away from the main road. Food was very tasty and locally sourced.
Review 11:Not able to control room temperature. Had to be turned down by staff. No back entrance from rooms- hard for disabled
Review 12:Large comfortable room. Good food. Excellent breakfast
Review 13:Waiters and management were hopeless.Asked 3 different staff members for the wine we had ordered to go with main course. 46 mins later still no wine. Dinner was finished so were we. Cancelled the room and went home as this was part of our Honeymoon.
Review 14:Nice fit out in restaurant.
Review 15:Nothing. Loved every bit.
Review 16:Hotel management and staff seem so professional. We felt welcome. Spotlessly clean. Food excellent. Going back a third time! The food centre is a dream! A very unusual hotel, lovely place.
Review 17:We enjoyed a delicious dinner which was of a very high standard. The room was very comfortable & in the morning we had a freshly cooked breakfast. Bar meals equally as good as the restaurant. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We will definitely stay there again. A bonus was being able to walk to Ludlow races.
Review 18:One downside on walk - nearly run over by 1 tractor from Oakley Park on bridge - tractor should have stopped as we were well over half way on bridge.
Review 19:Atmosphere of hotel - range of food - sustainable food produced & eaten at restaurant / sold in shop. Lovely wAlk from Clive to Ludlow & castle
Review 20:Lunch and evening meal were rather overpriced for the portion sizes.
Review 21:Very comfortable room and bed, well stocked bar, superb staff and excellent breakfast.
Review 22:Poor listening skills as on the one occasion we stayed for dinner (due to high prices), they messed-up our dinner order so that my wife had finished her meal before I got mine
Review 23:plenty of car parking spaces
Review 24:Our room was large but it only had a glass fire exit door in the room, no window & it was very warm & stuffy in the middle of the night even though it was the end of sept. Would have liked a window to have opened or air conditioning.
Review 25:Large rooms - very clean. Gorgeous Breakfast & Dinner was superb. Drinks not overpriced. Only marked down slightly because of humidity in the room & no window in room.
Review 26:The room, although very clean, was quite dark and dated. Would benefit greatly from new furnishings.
Review 27:The food at dinner and breakfast was excellent, as was the service and the attitude of the staff.
Review 28:Shower water only luke warm at 7pm, but very hot at 7am.
Review 29:Spacious clean well equipped rooms. After reading some poor reviews was slightly apprehensive about ordering an evening meal but was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity.
Review 30:The junior waiting staff appeared more interested in talking to each other and avoiding eye contact with us than paying attention to the customers' needs, e.g. bread and butter arrived 3/4 way through starters. Had to ask for cutlery. Need more customer training as it let down the chef's hard work.
Review 31:Excellent quality food/cocktails plus opportunity to visit estate food store next door which sold the same local produce as served during dinner/breakfast. Close to Ludlow and carried on 'quality food theme' from the food festival.
Review 32:Hollow-fibre duvet is a pet hate (and all too common these days). Location looked like edge of Ludlow on Booking.com website but actually was well outside town, so you need to drive in (and find a parking space) to visit the old town.
Review 33:Very good evening meal, using excellent local produce; pleasant restaurant/bar atmosphere; quiet, comfortable courtyard room.
Review 34:Not used to hard floors. However assured during winter months there will be underfloor heating.
Review 35:my salmon/scrambled egg breakfast was scrumptious. Had chosen a more spacious room & it was. Bathroom was high quality .... even had a Mira shower. Nice to have a mini fridge especially with the closeness of the "Ludlow Food Centre".
Review 36:There is nothing not to like about The Clive. Good quality accommodation which was very clean and comfortable. The food was first class - breakfast was divine!
Review 37:Nothing
Review 38:Space in the room. New facilities. Quality of food for breakfast and evening meals. Friendly staff. Location for visits to local outings. Quiet.
Review 39:Alas, a very different situation at dinner whena two course meal took an eternity. So bad, in fact, that at one point, thecouple at the only other occupied table shook their heads in disbelief at the lack of service and we all laughed together! In addition, having stipulated just water to drink, we were twice more asked if we wanted wine and port. I do not want the young staff to take the blame, this is a management problem.
Review 40:Excellent bedroom, outsranding touches such as leaf tea and cafetiere raised it above the norm. Superb breakfast warmly and efficiently served by two staff, who were immediately aware of the needs of us all in a busy room
Review 41:Only thing to dislike was it`s used for conferences which can make it a little uncomfortable with large groups of people.
Review 42:The evening meal in resteraunt was excellent. Great stop off for one night.
Review 43:Taxi from Delbury Hall cost a little more than going to Ludlow (despite being closer) as it was "not in town". Strange logic that one. Not the hotel's fault though, just a location thing.
Review 44:Very comfy beds. Extremely clean everywhere. Cracking full English to help the recovery.
Review 45:Phone signal was very poor - although not the fault of the hotel it did make coordinating plans with friends a little tricky. The quality of breakfast was lovely - locally sourced food that was all very tasty.
Review 46:The staff were hugely helpful, particularly when we were having an issue with a local taxi company. The room was extremely comfortable, well appointed and it was lovely to see some local food that was also available in the Food Centre. We particularly enjoyed the location of the hotel /restaurant to the Food Centre which was a fantastic bonus.
Review 47:Wifi patchy Busy main road location - but rooms are tucked away quietly at the back (though the noisy arrival of a delivery truck outside the window at 8am wasn't welcome)
Review 48:Fabulous food and a warm welcome Right next to the Ludlow Food Centre, but a few miles out of town. Excellent dinner and breakfast - well worth booking in to eat here.
Review 49:The food was amazing! We lowered the average age of visitor to Ludlow by a fair few years... More young couples should head to The Clive. The atmosphere is incredibly relaxing and the rooms are lovely, brilliantly equipped and amazingly comfortable.
Review 50:Had an evening meal in the restaurant as a family of five. food was awful and at the price we were all disappointed. we heard later it was the first week of a new chef. with meals like this he won't last long !
Review 51:Rooms and beds excellent
Review 52:Waiting to be served at the bar while a waitress came in and helped herself to her own drink. Going into breakfast for the couple who came in after us being served first. Getting our simple breakfast order wrong.
Review 53:Good room. Good evening meal. Some of the staff were excellent. Helpful when I left something in the room.
Review 54:Nothing.
Review 55:The staff were all great! The food was excellent, although the choice of available dishes was not as broad as it could have been. Service was very good indeed. Plenty of room in the car park too.
Review 56:Room was stuffy and hot but this is down to the overall design of the block rather than a heating issue. otherwise room size great and facilities great. There generally seemed to be a slight lack of staff covering the various rooms of the main building but possibly that was due to it being a Sunday evening.
Review 57:Hour and half wait between starter at dinner and main course,. belly pork too tough to eat. disappointing
Review 58:Great location, quiet, clean, everything you need provided, good staff.
Review 59:The welcome could have been better food not as good as expected hadreason to complain didnt feel that the manager was very experienced indealing with complaints
Review 60:The room and location were as we expected very nice
Review 61:Our reception on arrival was quite poor - not much enthusiasm for us as new guests. After that the staff were great. Had to be careful drawing the blinds in our room for privacy as delivery vans arrived outside each morning.
Review 62:For us it was a good location because we wanted to walk into Ludlow via the country trail. Not so sure if you needed to drive. It was nice to be next to the Ludlow Food Centre - well worth a visit. Generally a nice place and a nice stay.
Review 63:Evening meal was pretentious.
Review 64:Room was beautiful. Bed was very comfortable. Shower was amazing. Breakfast was the best we have had in a long time. Staff were lovely.
Review 65:Room was pricey for what it was. Clean but basic and on ground floor with people walking pass so not private without closing the blinds.Wi fi not great
Review 66:Restaurant dinner Saturday night, food excellent.
Review 67:Can't really think of anything I didn't like!
Review 68:The amentities in the room and the size of the room. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. Would like to revist for other than business.
Review 69:Continental breakfast could have been better. Had to buy cranberry drink. Price of hotel high for what it is.
Review 70:Staff were very good and every where was clean and tidy. Main breakfast was good.
Review 71:Next to a busy main road which means some road noise in the night (twin room 212). Inadequate blind does not keep out the very early morning sun which hits directly on the pillow at about 5am - as others have said in their reviews (take a sleep mask). Shower curtain floats around and sticks to you during your shower - should either be anchored, or a heavier material, or replaced with a screen.
Review 72:Staff were friendly and helpful and even provided a dish that was not on the menu when requested. Food was very good (although I wouldn't recommend the bubble & squeak). Very comfortable (twin) beds. Excellent power shower. Modern, clean rooms.
Review 73:We went with my parents. My father has recently started using a wheelchair and staff went out of their way to make their stay comfortable even though they hadn't booked the disabled room. We also didn't realise the facilities on the complex. The food hall, garden centre and cafe are all lovely and just a few metres from the hotel. They're really worth a visit.
Review 74:The hotel was in a perfect location right next to Ludlow Food Hall. The staff were helpful and friendly and the room was spotless. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Review 75:It would have been better if breakfast could have been available slightly later than 9.30.
Review 76:The rooms were away from the main bar and restaurant so were peaceful. They were clean and well equipped. The location next to the Food Centre, excellent Cafe, garden centre and shop. Parking close to the rooms.
Review 77:The skip outside our room.
Review 78:The food was top quality. I liked the fact that the Food and garden centre and Post Office were next door and it was on a bus route to Ludlow.
Review 79:I was impressed by the quietness of the rooms, so close to a main road, the staff were friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the meal at the restaurant on our arrival
Review 80:On the first night room far to warm, windows only open a few inch, would be great in winter as it was underfloor heating
Review 81:Room very nice Nice bar to sit before and after dinner Excellent restaurant
Review 82:Our particular room was on the ground floor and had a lot of footfall past the windows at all times, necessitating keeping the blinds closed.
Review 83:Great food, pleasant staff, handy for Ludlow. A cut above the competition in this price range.
Review 84:Little disappointed with the room. Not many nice touches and a very basic bathroom. I expected more surprises and luxury for the price.
Review 85:I liked the bar and restaurant area and the food. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
Review 86:Would have liked a bit more luxury in bedroom/public rooms, but this is just a quibble - overall The Clive was excellent
Review 87:Friendly welcome, great food and *excellent* disabled facilities. Additionally there were very interesting retail centres (food, gardening) in same location
Review 88:Small disappointment that there wasn't a comfy chair in the room, just two stand chairs
Review 89:Really lovely accommodation, and the evening meal and breakfast were superb. Bed comfortable. Good size bathroom.
Review 90:Very little choice of Breakfast fruit and cereals but cooked breakfast was good. Thought one pack of biscuits between two of us on hospitality tray was a bit mean!
Review 91:Evening meal was excellent. Staff very attentive, good choice of drinks. Room was good.
Review 92:Somewhat too warm in the bedroom and no individual control. Better on second night after query to staff.
Review 93:Good menu and wine list. Well presented very tasty food. Good sized room with plenty of storage space.
Review 94:first sight was the middle curtains hanging off rails on first floor of main building, not representative of a great place.
Review 95:great food,welcoming staff,clean and comfortable rooms.
Review 96:We enjoyed our stay at The Clive immensely from start to finish. We arrived at lunchtime and had a couple of drinks in the bar, which has been expensively fitted in a modern style, but also has a traditional log fire. The beer is also exceptionally well kept. In the evening, we had a starter and main in the restaurant which were quite simply the best food we have ever eaten out. Our Australian Shiraz was also delicious and very reasonably priced at £16.95. In addition, the staff were, without exception, wonderful. Our room was spacious and the super king size bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was also superb. We would unreservedly recommend this place and cannot wait to come back!
Review 97:Would have liked a flannel mostly because I always forget one. Loo was a little low in room 107 don't know if they are all like that.
Review 98:This is a great place to stay. The rooms are excellent and the disabled access room was ideal for my father. Food is wonderful. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 99:generally standards had dropped from the last time we visited,12 months ago.service and staff was not as good and the meal we had in the restaurant was poor.Generally not value for money.
Review 100:location
Review 101:Not much not to like - unless you mind being a 5 min drive out of Ludlow.
Review 102:Nice modern room with old beam feature in rear annex (former stables maybe?), friendly helpful staff, nice bar. Evening meal and breakfast both good (not michelin * but fine!).
Review 103:The bed was a little uncomfy as two singles put into a double which I don't think ever works. Mobile phone non existent but that's the area but does mean paying a fortune for calls
Review 104:The food is superb ,the service excellent and the rooms large and well furnished for a business traveller wanting more than a chain. The communication was excellent as to room rates local taxis etc. The provision of decent tea and coffee was a nice touch. Perfect way to start new year
Review 105:The purpose of staying in a hotel room is for a nights sleep. Unfortunately guests have no heating controls and it was so hot we were unable to sleep. When we complained we were told that the previous week was cold thus the heating had been turned up. They could not alter it and we were only offered a small reduction for one room. I will be using premier inn in future as they guarantee a good nights sleep
Review 106:Excellent dinner. Room very comfortable
Review 107:Only one small item--no loo brush in bathroom--prpbably an oversight
Review 108:Very good service and spacious bedroom. Good food and value. All in all an excellently run establishment and highly recommended.
Review 109:Large well equipped room and bathroom. Very clean and comfortable. Very nice evening meal in the restaurant and good breakfast included in the price. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 110:Was advertised as restaurant with rooms so we assumed would major on the food. Unfortunately poor service let them down - one evening we waited 30 minutes between courses for a plate of cheese - by which time we lost interest in dessert. Breakfast never did arrive on second morning as we had to leave after a 30 minute wait. Manager did apologise and refund £20 - BUT to say all the guests arrived at the same time really not an excuse. That is what happens in hotels surely!!
Review 111:The room was lovely - comfortable bed, good bathroom.
Review 112:The WiFi in the room was difficult to connect. The instructions given in the folder were incorrect, so I had to ring Reception to get advice.
Review 113:The Super King double room was large, well decorated and comfortable. The bed linen was of a high standard. The bathroom was reasonably modern. We were pleased with the selection of teas and coffees on the tray, especially the loose leaf tea, which was delicious, although we could have done with a few more milk cartons. The evening meal was exceptional, with a varied menu choice. The food was delicious and plentiful, and the appetisers and petit fours were a nice touch.
Review 114:Wifi did not work in the bedroom so had to go to bar to get a signal. No mobile phone reception but hardly the fault of the Clive!
Review 115:Location close to Haytons Bent where we were buying a house. Well appointed and tasteful room. Good breakfast. friendly staff
Review 116:No way of controlling heating in the room, and a very bright light came on outside window at 5 in the morning and continued on and off for the next two hours until daybreak.
Review 117:Location, ambiance, pleasant staff.
Review 118:We arrived early but were still allowed use the rooms to change before heading to a wedding ,this was very nice and helpful of the staff. Ps the bed was so comfy I want the same for my own house !
Review 119:It's an understatement to name the hotel as Restaurant with rooms. The room was fantastic, modern, comfortable and very spacious. The restaurant was fantastic as well. Never had such good liver paté. And the desert was a dream.
Review 120:Door in the restaurant leading to the bar. People moving to the bar passing dinning table; then leaving the door open. Very uncomfortable for a diner at the wrong table.
Review 121:most
Review 122:Scrapping the barrel to find anything wrong - would have liked thicker window coverings in the bedroom. The blinds let in a little too much light for my taste
Review 123:Pretty much everything. Top notch accommodation, good food, good beer, friendly and helpful staff - nothing too much bother.
Review 124:Not much! Only downside was that the menu doesn't change; would be good to have a daily special for guests staying for a few days.
Review 125:Had a wonderful bank holiday trip. Our first time away since our honeymoon in a five star hotel, and the clive compared very well. Lovely room and very good food, both at breakfast and dinner. Had only planned to eat in for one dinner but ended up there for all three evenings. Will be back !
Review 126:The food in the restaurant was extremely poor and thus expensive for the quality of the offering.
Review 127:Rooms were clean, spacious and the bed comfortable. Staff, in the main were very friendly and helpful. The Clive is in a reasonable location in relation to Ludlow.
Review 128:Unconfortable seating top bar area. One evening wedding reception dominated bar.Food overpriced eg Plaice served on the bone and was uneatable,in hindsight it should have been returned.
Review 129:Liked the accommodation
Review 130:One or two of the dinner menu dishes were perhaps a little too "chefy".
Review 131:The accommodation was very good and the staff were very attentive. The breakfast was very tasty.
Review 132:The room was very comfortable and quiet but the outlook was uninteresting.
Review 133:Being able to go over the road and see the church, old farm buildings and weir across river. Then to walk into the open countryside and on to Ludlow just an hour away.
Review 134:Room a bit to warm with no means of control, but has been unseasonably warm !!!
Review 135:Great location and facilities
Review 136:The rooms were excellent, spacious, clean, comfortable, decorated very nice and very warm and cosy. Great location. Quite and chilling. Good food.
