Reviews for Belstead Brook Muthu Hotel
Review 1:Staff member (dan) was rushed of his feet in the bar/snake bar, very helpful and polite through out (lovely baileys coffee made)defo needed some one to help him. More staff.
Review 2:Room 109. Laid on mattress and actually laid on divan below. No support in mattress. Some décor need repair. i.e light shade, cobweb remove from door doorhandle inside Kettle lid did not close. Decent nights sleep is the most important factor. Very disappointed with bed.
Review 3:Room was dated and grubby, bathroom was dated and grubby, shower was pathetic and dangerous, This was a"Superior Double"(205.) would hate to see an inferior single !!!! Not particularly cheap either . Intend to contact them and request apology and partial refund after driving over 200 miles to stay there.
Review 4:Good dining and leisure facilities.
Review 5:Decor a little bit dated in room, bedroom needs modernisation in terms of bathroom facilities.
Review 6:Leisure facilities excellent, really nice pool and sauna area.
Review 7:Needs a bit of TLC and telly channels very limited.
Review 8:Lovely setting close to Town Centre. A little shabby chic but very clean. Restaurant excellent and breakfast was better than the more expensive hotels. Very quiet and excellent if you want to escape stresses of everyday life.
Review 9:No robes for spa. The restaurant had a lovely feel but, as a group we felt we were unable to enjoy ourselves due to the quietness and respect for other guests. Should consider a different dining area for groups.
Review 10:Relaxed atmosphere
Review 11:We were in 2nd floor and small windows. There was a fan in room for summer weather though
Review 12:Lovely decor in hallway and reception.fantastic pool and sauna. Lovely cosy breakfast rooms and great choice at breakfast
Review 13:Comfortable, local, friendly staff, nice grounds, hotel very Art Deco, needs a little tlc, fantastic swimming pool and spa. We only had breakfast which was very recommendable. Will be back, very relaxing, wish we had stayed longer.
Review 14:The only thing I would say is just the room needs a bit of rejuvenation.
Review 15:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Not interfering which is nice. The bed was sooo comfy.
Review 16:The only bad aspect was the damp by the patio doors and the slight smell of vomit on entry to the room
Review 17:Overall the hotel was excellent with a good location. However the garden room we stayed in had some damp by the patio doors and smelt a little of vomit on entry. The breakfast and facilities were brilliant.
Review 18:Hotel, facilities are tired, worn out and from the 70's. Needs some work to get the bathrooms, rooms, bar etc. to an inviting standard so you want to come back. We, do not want to come back.
Review 19:Price was low, staff was friendly
Review 20:Having to work the next day!
Review 21:For the price I paid (reduced) this was a lot better than I expected. Even if I had paid the full price I would give a good review.
Review 22:the rooms are very dated and need to be revamped to modern.
Review 23:overall enjoyment, staff food facilities also relaxing, far enough from home to be away but near enough to home if needed.
Review 24:The bathrooms need updating. The fittings (along with the room door handles) are cheap gold/brass and showing lots of wear. This spoils it a bit with a run down look. An easy and not too an expensive refurb fix really!
Review 25:friendly staff, very helpful always had nice rooms. great pool facilities. easy parking, Nice breakfast and brilliant NYE dinner
Review 26:Constant whistling noise emanating from the vent system located above the bath in the bathroom. It sounded very loud at night and disturbed our sleep.
Review 27:Breakfast was superb. Room was clean and tidy. Bed was comfortable.
Review 28:Felt like the menu could of offered more and the sizes were to big and a longer time between meals
Review 29:How relaxed the place was and how helpful staff were.
Review 30:Room needs redecorating very soon as starting to look tired.
Review 31:Lovely breakfast with lots of choice Umbrellas to use at the exits when its raining outside. Lovely grounds around hotel Roomy, relaxing and pleasant surroundings. Easy access to many beautiful places.
Review 32:Loo in room 303 smelt of wee Hard to get a space in car park Had trouble finding hotel
Review 33:We enjoyed everything at hotel everyone was friendly hotel was posh and beautiful breakfast was to die for never been to hotel before that does a variety like that was shocked leisure club brilliant gave out towels which was good had great stay thanks ever so much hubby enjoyed his early birthday present defo come back again
Review 34:I was mislead by Booking.com into believing I booked B&B when all I got was room only. The en suite was generally grubby and the sink broken.
Review 35:THE leisure facilities.
Review 36:The management were in my opinion very unhelpful and lazy! changed the rules of the hotel no room service available looked to accommodate outside guests rather then booked residents, not impressed by the experience spoilt my stay bedrooms very dated rundown, mould on the windows
Review 37:bar staff, restaurant staff excellent
Review 38:On arrival we began with a member of staff in reception that was not brilliant in that position, she handed us to another member of staff without any explanation, and then served people behind us etc. First impressions count.
Review 39:The bedroom was well serviced by the house keeping team. The buffet style breakfast was good, helpful staff in the kichen.
Review 40:We had view of a hedge from our room even though we had upgraded
Review 41:Excellent facilities and brilliant breakfast. Afternoon champagne tea was also very good.
Review 42:The staff were let down by one member at breakfast. Sorry donot know the girls name! Bathroom dreadful. Room needed refurbishing
Review 43:The spa facilities were excellent As was breakfast
Review 44:One evening, dinner was not good. With no fuss they took husbands away & gave him something else.
Review 45:Comfy room. Great swimming pool. Good breakfast, lunch, dinner!
Review 46:Microwaved meal served in the bar in the evening had been nuked. The staff were very friendly but lacked a bit of professionalism. Need new uniforms and training as idle chit chat and gripes shouldn't be within earshot of guests.
Review 47:Beautiful building with great character. The room was fine. The breakfast was superb and the staff very friendly.
Review 48:We were a table of seven for dinner and some of the food was not as hot as it should be otherwise the meal was OK
Review 49:The accommodation was very good value for money and perfectly adequate for our needs. Overall the place is jaded - a shame considering it's historic origins.
Review 50:Bar smells of beer
Review 51:Staff are lovely- friendly, efficient and very helpful. Rooms are very clean and towels changed as often as you prefer. Breakfasts are quick and plenty of choice. Easy to be in and out and off to work. Coffee is good and piping hot! Restaurant decor is nice and chairs are great.
Review 52:Bathroom needed an extractor fan.
Review 53:Warm and friendly staff. Comfortable room with good facilities. Good choice of food on the menu and service from staff very good.
Review 54:Decor and size of bedroom did not match up to other parts of the hotel. Bathroom in need of a refit, room needs painting. Would not describe the bedroom as superior. This said the linen and towels were clean and the bed was comforfable.
Review 55:Public areas and restaurant were beautiful. Food was excellent. Leisure spa area amazing. All these areas were clean and beatifully decorated.
Review 56:We weren't told that our booking did not include breakfast, which might otherwise have affected our decision to stay at Belstead Brook because we could have got a better deal elsewhere..
Review 57:Convenient for a family gathering nearby.
Review 58:Some ramps alongside the steps in the reception area would be very helpful. Somehow the stairlift seems a little undignified in public spaces. For my wife it is only stairs that are a problem.
Review 59:A lovely hotel full of character from the days of a hunting, fishing Manor House. It is due for a multimillion pound refurbishment early 2016 but the important historic things will, thankfully, be retained. The bedrooms do need the refurbishment and I hope that the quality of the work and fittings will remain as good as they had once been. The dining room and the standards are superb. It would be a wonderful place to spend Christmas one year.
Review 60:The only issue was that it was driving distance from Ipswich, not walking but this also meant there was easy access out onto the main roads like the A14 etc.
Review 61:The Pool and spa facilities were excellent, they were no extra cost and towels were provided by the hotel. The Wifi is available across the hotel and we had no difficulties with it. The room was very large and comfortable and the whole hotel is very warm and well heated.
Review 62:The breakfast was a little luke warm.
Review 63:I liked the leisure facilities that were available - the swimming pool and jacuzzi in particular. The restaurant food also was excellent.
Review 64:Could do with better wifi facility.
Review 65:Staff are very helpful and friendly. Pool and leisure area is clean and relaxing. Yes the decor could do with updating but who's house couldn't do with updating? Breakfast was very good...best buffet scrambled eggs I've ever had.
Review 66:executive room booked was dirty dark and smelly, we upgraded to the deben suite which was so much better, the hotel on the whole was nice but smelled a little in places ( reminded me of a care home ), the bathroom in the deben suite had quite a few cobwebs and the carpets had a number of stains and marks throughout the rooms. However we would consider staying again but it would have to be in a suite not a solitary room.
Review 67:helpful staff. hotel setting was lovely, lots of choice at breakfast.
Review 68:Breakfast was very poor, especially fried eggs that were solid, and the black pudding which was like concrete.Staff stood around chatting and not giving a good service. The resident on next table walked out and left all his breakfast.
Review 69:Location and building.
Review 70:room was a bit cramped but only for a night, bathroom was a little tired but not the end of the World.
Review 71:Suited my requirements, staff were pleasant, breakfast was spot on, overall a nice hotel. Stayed previously will stay again when in the area.
Review 72:I hate to say this but the room they gave us was well past it's best, the dark brown furnishings and very dim lighting didn't help, the lobby light didn't work anyway. The bathroom was a shock, the tile grouting was black with mould, probably clean but looked awful, the ceiling above the shower above the shower head and around the extractor was grey to black where mould had been and obviously the cleaners attempt to clean it off. The bath panel had mould where it met the floor and skirting board. The finish on the old gold plated fittings had been worn away, the toilet flush was located on the wall above the bath to the left of the toilet, very strange, maybe we were given a poor room because it was a one night stay, would never go back. If this was one of our properties, we would refurb it immediately.
Review 73:The bed was comfy but that's personal preference, the grounds were well kept, impressive entrance hall, bear in mind we only stayed one night and didn't pay a lot. The breakfast was nice
Review 74:Room was not as described. No jacuzzi as listed. Room was run down. Food was bland, even the oven chips were still frozen.
Review 75:The pool at the spa was nice, staff were ok. Hotel exterior and public areas, such as lobby and hallways looked very grand.
Review 76:The only thing that let our weekend down was the fact the picturesused on your web site do not represent the rooms allocated to guests. We didn't have anywhere near the space or garden views asshown/stated on your advertising. This was further confirmed asother guests were already complaining about this exact situation as wewere being booked in and were being told there is no differencebetween a standard and superior room - all rooms are the same. We feltas if we were put in a room "that would do" as we were onlythere for 3 nights.
Review 77:The leisure facilities were excellent, all staff very friendly andpolite, food good, will go again - hopefully get room booked
Review 78:Parts in need of refurbishment particularly changing areas of pool - would be very disappointed if I had booked a spa day. Do ensure you are totally sure when booking whether your deal includes breakfast. Convinced mine did yet booking booking.com confirmation said no food and hotel said no food - have since read that others have had the same problem.
Review 79:Lovely building, nice pool, outside space
Review 80:The rooms were so tired especially the bathroom, the paintwork was so bad it made the room feel unclean, everything needs updating
Review 81:The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was really good
Review 82:No heating in lounge and dining area. Functions on sat eve reflected in the restaurant being slow service and cold food. Some staff looked like they didn't want to be there. We were not the only customers to complain.
Review 83:Restaurant decor. Comfy chairs. Breakfast.
Review 84:the suite we were in was quite cold especially as one of the radiators didnt work but the room itself was very good
Review 85:The food was really good value in the evening and breakfast was well stocked with everything you could want
Review 86:Guests wearing dirty work clothes at breakfast, some of which had high viz trousers covered in dirt and road tar. I would not like to see this dirt transferred to hotel chairs and my suit!
Review 87:Breakfast, wifi, staff and room
Review 88:The bedrooms are clean, comfortable but tired. There are no superior standard rooms according to reception staff.
Review 89:The friendliness and professionalism of staff was excellent. The spa was most impressive. Very restful break.
Review 90:Taking 2 hours from check in until I was in a room where things worked i.e. Heating could be controlled, Tv worked. The hotel is run appallingly and there are simply too many things which don't work, including heating in rooms, steam room in pool area and staff tell me nothing is getting fixed. Receptionists are efficient but unfriendly and some common areas like the pool changing rooms are a disgrace. The only way heating in my third room could be operated was by turning it on or off from outside the room and windows swing so widely open that I felt my safety is compromised as a woman on my own on the ground floor.
Review 91:The pool and some of the members of staff are the only redeeming features of this hotel.
Review 92:Old world charm good but needs some refurbishments and decorating. The bed was hard and needs a luxury topper and new pillows.
Review 93:Good pool and leisure facility. Good buffet breakfast.
Review 94:Steam room was out of action, but we survived ;)
Review 95:Great facilities. Wide range of choice at breakfast, and had use of a wonderful pool, Jacuzzi and sauna.
Review 96:The bedroom looked very tatty, the bathroom didn't look spotless. Very disappointed as then last time I stayed at this hotel although it was a few years ago the standards have dropped dramatically.
Review 97:Breakfast was very good with excellent choices
Review 98:The food, pool and leisure facilities are very good. the staff are friendly and helpful, although they do take a bit of stick from some visitors who expect things to be more swish. The hotel rooms are being upgraded, so quality of these can be patchy, but it will be great when all done and they try to respond actively to any issues. It is a relaxed and very pleasant place to stay, with some facilities for pet owners too, and the house and grounds are lovely and of historic interest, even if now surrounded by the Ipswich suburbs. It is a great location for Ipswich and surrounding countryside, estuaries, sutton hoo etc.
Review 99:lack of info in room regarding hotel facilities and services false fire alarm with no explanation or apologies
Review 100:location great staff friendly very good breakfast room a little tired Local bus service very close to hotel giving access to Ipswich in 25 mins 15A Great pool and leisure facilities. Would recommend at the offer price
Review 101:Housekeeping very poor, particularly bathroom, despite sad decor, standard poor, weeks old grime. Spoke to H/keeping Mgr, non plused.
Review 102:Front of house and restaurant character.
Review 103:My only criticism was the bathroom taps. We stayed in room 303. Around the taps there was dirt. This could easily be put right with a scrubbing brush around the area. It was slightly off putting.
Review 104:Food was excellent. Staff very welcoming. Great value for money. Will definitely return.
Review 105:The hotel is a very short distance from Ipswich waterfront, we walked in and also cycled in and it didn't take long at all. The hotel has a lovely spa with swimming pool at a very good temperature, a lovely hot large very bubbly Jacuzzi and steam room and sauna. Beauty treatments are also available. The hotel looks luxurious and well kept and (unusually) there was nothing broken or missing in our room.
Review 106:No help was given to find the place easier. Check in and out quite slow. Bathroom not very clean. Shower needed descaling. Draft and light coming through door.
Review 107:Breakfast was good and a lot.
Review 108:The room was clean and good.Meals too expensive. No information in the room regarding what to do, or about the bar and restaurant The room did need some maintanence.
Review 109:the restaurant was lovely but the chairs were rather large hard to move and get comfy in. The garden rooms that were seperate from the hotel need a little tlc
Review 110:the swimming pool facilites
Review 111:Our Bed was a bit too soft - last time we stayed it was not an issue.
Review 112:Quiet location not easy to find close to Ipswich Great breakfast choice - well presented
Review 113:The breakfast and the environment in the restaurant is excellent. The swim pool is such a good facility and is a decent size, and not just a 'plunge-pool.
Review 114:Our 'Superior Double' was very poor. Very poor quality decor. All look very 'tired'. Bathroom shabby and shower inadequate. Very small room, I had expected more from the description. Garden view was only if you were standing up through a small window. No attempt to make the room look inviting at all. Extremely disappointed. Food was very average and not at all what we were anticipating
Review 115:Location was convenient for where we needed to be
Review 116:Radiator in room was noisy when it reached temperature, and it doesn't look like the refurbishment has got far. Booking . Com described our accommodation as superior with garden view - the hotel would not have described it that way
Review 117:Near to town and family. Receptionist Amy is bright, competent and helpful, she arranged help with our luggage when I couldn't manage
Review 118:Rooms in need of a refurb. Tatty now and mould around bath. No bulb in table lamp where I wanted to sit and do craft and told by reception we'd have to wait til next morning, then discovered tele didn't work either but they did send up a manager at that point who sorted both quite efficiently. Ate only once in restaurant this time. One waitress not to usual standard. Needed more training. Others are usually excellent. Smaller portions of veg than before. We don't eat sweets and still hungry after mains. Ate out after that.
Review 119:Have stayed before and pleased that spa and changing rooms had been upgraded. Much more comfortable. Good breakfasts.
Review 120:Very dated. Badly signposted, entrance road badly in need of resurfacing. Bedroom dull in need of coat of paint, bathroom fittings rusted and out of date but functional. Very small TV set. Breakfast good average.
Review 121:Value for money, pleasant staff.
Review 122:Staff could not have done more to help especially receptionist when there was a blip connecting to wi fi. Bar/restaurant staff excellent. Comfortable room. Relaxed atmosphere.
Review 123:Paid for executive room which was large but cold until we turned on radiators.( only 2 out of 4 worked). The bathroom needed updating there were cracked tiles on floor, and poor shower in bath. Whole place needs a bit of T.L.C.
Review 124:Leisure facilities good, pool excellent. Excellent breakfast.
Review 125:The room was described as superior but no such room existed. The bathroom desperately needs painting, as does the window frame.
Review 126:The staff were excellent. The pool area was magnificent.
Review 127:Unfortunately the bathroom was in dire need of refurbishment.
Review 128:The food for breakfast and dinner was just superb. The room was comfortable and peaceful
Review 129:Room and bathroom were tired, not very clean and poorly stocked-no tea only one coffee and one hot chocolate. Arrived at two, at check in £150 was held against our card, despite paying our £270 bill on check out the £150 remained on our card for 7 more days! Contacted hotel, noone would deal with it, no reply to emails or calls, repeatedly cut off when calling hotel about booking and again with payment. went to the bar for a drink, every table we sat at was sticky.
Review 130:Spa and massage were very good.food was tasty but service was poor.
Review 131:I was very satisfied and had no complaints, but if anyone has a problem, they should mention it at the time, as the staff will do their best to sort it out.
Review 132:The hotel is quiet and comfortable, with a lovely pool area, good food and friendly staff. As a woman on my own, I was made very welcome and felt relaxed and at home.
Review 133:The room was terrible, cracked floor tiles in the bathroom, parts of the carpet missing by the bed, cleanliness of then bathroom and shower wasn't good at all. Over all the room was very over priced and would never stay at this hotel again and will not be recommending it to anyone.
Review 134:The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good.
Review 135:Room decor is dated and untidy (e.g. exposed wiring to TV, mismatching furniture, bathroom in need of update, shower not powerful, needs better ventilation). Wi-fi free but requires signup with intrusive questionnaire and the phone signal level is poor. Restaurant service slow and the food was OK, not great.
Review 136:Good breakfast included. Room pleasant and clean with comfortable bed. Good facilities.
Review 137:Would have liked to be able to charge phone by bedside, no plug outlets.
Review 138:I liked the pool, chairs very comfortable. Peaceful and restful. Dinner was very good, breakfasts always good.
Review 139:We had a room service meal while watching the rugby. However the food was cold and didn't get what we ordered. spoke to staff the next day who were very helpful and refunded some of the cost of the meal. Thanks.
Review 140:We liked the suite that we had but the decor could do with a refurb. The restaurant food and service was 1st class.
Review 141:Bad drive way on way out with large holes urgent before you get a Claim
Review 142:The service of staff was v/good room was clean barthroom need up date but clean
