Reviews for Onich Hotel
Review 1:Breakfast expensive, non lakeside room small and view of roof! Not much tlc here, tv didnt work and even all the picture frames cockeyed ;)
Review 2:Lovely views from lakeside rooms
Review 3:Our neighbors in the next room the first night were a rambunctious group of girls who kept us up for a while.
Review 4:By far the price was the best we found, and we were very happy with the room.
Review 5:Had a little trouble with the tv, quickly resolved by management.
Review 6:Booked a cheap break but were upgraded free of charge to a wonderful room with a balcony overlooking the loch. Decided to have our evening meals in the bar - comfortable chairs in front of wood-burning stove, friendly and helpful staff, great food.
Review 7:Continental breakfast was very few choices to choose from.
Review 8:I went during the winter and booked three rooms for my family. All were very spacious. Loch view was beautiful. Staff were great. But best of all was the value for money for the rooms.
Review 9:Did not have a lift and I found it a bit of a struggle to get up twoflights of stairs. The fish and chips I had was ok but the chips were abit too saturated in fat for my liking. That said, it would not be fairto base a negative comment on just one meal
Review 10:The location is great and overlooks Loch Leven. Friendly staff and thehotel is kept clean and tidy. The lounge bar is great and has good viewsover Loch Leven. The breakfast looks really good with plenty of choice, something I didn't have because my stupid mate wanted to eat out.Big mistake.
Review 11:rude staff, overbilled on leaving, rock music playing while we took Sunday Inclusive breakfast which we were as I said later billed for. 1980s fittings
Review 12:views good, food was not to shabby
Review 13:I can't say there was anything I disliked.
Review 14:The welcome was excellent especially as we arrived on a recovery truck! Cold and hungry we were instantly at home especially when the chef reopened the kitchen to prepare a meal for us in front of the fire in the bar. Delicious!!
Review 15:Quite expensive for beer and drinks. I went to get my fiancé a glass of wine at 2030 and found the bar in darkness, with no shops around for 7 miles this was not ideal.
Review 16:The staff were great and helpful. Very accommodating with pets. Food was really good.
Review 17:Onich Hotel was excellent in every way, warm, comfortable, friendly. The weather was awful while I was there, and it was a delight to find bar meals available in the evening. Even the dog was made welcome. The special deal I received through booking.com made this fantastic value.
Review 18:The ceiling in the bathroom was a bit moldy. There are no bars or restaurants within walking distance (the hotel serves food and drinks, but we didn't try that).
Review 19:We picked this hotel because it was relatively cheap. The beds were comfortable and the shower was hot, with shampoo provided. The view from the room over the loch and the mountains was amazing!
Review 20:No catering for vegetarians, poor response from staff, room in extreme need of some tlc, bed covers had stains, noise from bar/ kitchen all night but staff didn't really accept any responsibility.
Review 21:Location was ideal providing you are away from the road!
Review 22:Only option was a twin room. Requested double room however no one replied or mentioned our request. Did not mind if no double room was available, it just would have been nice to have request acknowledged.
Review 23:Lovely location. Very clean hotel.
Review 24:I was leaving early in the morning so I would miss breakfast. They said they would make me a packed lunch but there was nothing there in the morning. But to be fair they reduced my bill when contacted.
Review 25:Good location for walking in glen nevis. Opted to travel up on the Saturday from Edinburgh for an early start on the Sunday.
Review 26:Slightly on the pricey side.
Review 27:The location of the hotel is just by the lake as advertised and rooms have a splendid view of the same. The breakfast served was fantastic.
Review 28:Room and corridors grubby, no internet in room, beds uncomfortable
Review 29:The location is good, as long as you don't have a bedroom on the road, Food excellent
Review 30:The hotel was clean but the decor was very tired, the bed in particular was very uncomfortable. The bar was very cold despite the wood burner, the atmosphere also poor mainly due to the same Sydney Devine cd being played repeatedly we asked the bar staff to change it but was told the owner liked it! The pool table had seen better days which wasn't helped by the missing black ball. In summary the food and location good but this was not enough to make it an enjoyable break
Review 31:The location very good, evening meal and breakfast also good
Review 32:Value for money, a good base for getting into the mountains. The staff were excellent. The breakfasts were filling and tasty. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the views were fabulous and right on the shore of the Loch.
Review 33:Little dated but everything else was exceptional so what's wallpaper ?
Review 34:V v beautiful setting very dog friendly , wonderful staff , amazing food we ate there every night was gorgeous very clean
Review 35:Nothing to dislike
Review 36:Staff and food excellent which, together with the high standard of furnishings, all made our overnight stay a most memorable one. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a room with a view over the loch which was stunning.
Review 37:Dated decor but clean
Review 38:Friendly staff, we were allowed to check in late 11.30pm approx as we were driving 9 hours from London. Also great value for money. Good location and views. 20 min drive from Ben Nevis mountain. Perfect as we were climbing it. Good breakfast.
Review 39:We did not like ice cold water pouring from the shower, small room with old furniture, bad sound insolation, mediocre breakfast with slow service, no working internet.
Review 40:Live traditional music at the evening, well heated rooms and facilities.
Review 41:Room size small for 3 of us (including a 5 year old). literally, walk on things kept around the bed. Bathroom shower wasn't the best in terms of control of water temperature.
Review 42:Friendly helpful staff. Beautiful location. Very clean.
Review 43:The noise of the water tank constantly filling above the room; the toilet took ages to fill; the sound from the next room (including the troubling sounds of an eastern european woman refusing the advances of her persistent roommate through the majority of one night...quite loudly)
Review 44:View was excellent. Breakfast was good. Good location - great for Glencoe and Ben Nevis! Price - at £47 a night including breakfast we cant complain about anything really.
Review 45:I didn't pay extra for a room with sea view - didn't think I could justify it for a business trip. But back rooms are near the road which has steady traffic through the night on what is a main route to Fort William and beyond.
Review 46:Staff were happy and helpful. Room was clean and more spacious than many. Food was good. Overall excellent value for money for what I paid. Glorious sunshine helped provide a great stay in a beautiful lochside location.
Review 47:Remarked site on Loch Linneh with wonderful scenery. Friendly and helpful staff, good Wi Fi connection and no pressure about sitting in the lounge to use our iPad as long as we wished.
Review 48:the stairs, nothing on the menu for vegetarians, I can't think of anything else.
Review 49:we enjoyed everything, the cleanliness was impressive. The views were awesome. The staff went out of their way to help.
Review 50:Very slow service at breakfast but it did feel like they had run into some kind of problem, so probably not typical
Review 51:Great location for the view just outside of the hotel and for the proximity to the whole Glencoe area. Very enjoyable food too.
Review 52:The staff were very abrupt, the hotel needs a major revamp, the furniture is very old and the rooms are not very clean. Our window was blown so you couldn't see out and the shower head was the dirtiest I've ever seen.
Review 53:Location very good that's the attraction
Review 54:Wi-fi reception was poor in room. The room was located over kitchen where which spoilt the piece an quiet through constant use of doors.
Review 55:The location in the Loch and sea view was a bonus.
Review 56:Very dated and needs a massive refurbishment. No excuse for having old furniture and bulk bags of rubbish on the beautiful shoreline of the loch.
Review 57:Unrivalled location and room views!!! Spotless bathroom and linen. Lovely welcoming staff. Super breakfast. Great value for money. Our dog very welcome at no extra charge. Will return for sure .
Review 58:The price, is a bit expensive but I guess you're paying for those fantastic views!
Review 59:Stunning views from hotel, staff very kind and helpful, especially with having a big newfoundland dog with us.
Review 60:Stayed here now three times and hotel is starting to look tired. Old chairs and mattress left on the beach outside the hotel. Dogs in the dining room \ bar during meals.
Review 61:You cannot fault the location of this hotel with spectacular views of the Loch and hills.
Review 62:Wonderful location and good price. Friendly, helpful staff and the food was great. Nice atmosphere in the evenings. More of a "family-run" hotel rather than a "big chain" feeling; so expect some quirkiness here and there.
Review 63:No bad experience. Rooms were like travel lodge but clean. Once rooms refurbished it will be first class hotel.
Review 64:Food exellent both evening meal and breakfast. Staff very polite and attentive. Location next to none. Manager very friendly.
Review 65:Our bedroom, so called "superior" room was a little tired and the window in it was very small so not much light and not much of a loch view either
Review 66:The hotel is in a spectacular setting. right on the lochside The staff were lovely, very helpful and kind. The food was excellent, the restaurant had views acros the loch which added to the pleasure of staying here.
Review 67:style is a bit old fashioned and the hotel is rather expensive
Review 68:lovely hotel with very professional and friendly staff and beautiful views over the loch
Review 69:Nothing at all.
Review 70:Excellent location and easy for anyone to explore the local areas like Fort william, ben nevis etc. The hotel staff are absolutely super especially Emma. Thank you for the good stay.
Review 71:breakfast was not great. Toast made with very cheap bread and the selection of cold food was disappointing
Review 72:The view from our room was breathtaking and the food at dinner was delicious
Review 73:The staff, in terms of service, attitude was excellent - very professional. The location also helped to make the trip. Overall ambiance was one friendly, neighbourly attitude. If you are looking for a place full of fawning flunkies, forget the Onich. Here the staff are superb, friendly and genuine.
Review 74:the hotel is on the side of Loch Linne, so its location makes it. As a hotel its a little tired but comfortable and friendly. Meals are quite dear. Live music in bar was splendid.
Review 75:No wi-fi connection in the room, only in public places. Cold water tap in the sink was not working. Breakfast too small for somebody who what's to have a good start for full hiking day.
Review 76:Beautiful lake views, close proximity to stunning Highlands.
Review 77:Comfortable, clean room with everything we needed and a great view over the loch. Lovely, helpful staff. Great Scottish breakfast. Traditional Scottish Hotel.
Review 78:Nothing
Review 79:Beautiful location on the shore of Loch Linnhe, with fantastic views over the water. Nice room and always spotlessly clean. All staff very friendly and helpful. Nice cosy bar area with a real fire. Excellent quality and fairly priced food in the restaurant and bar, with great views overlooking the loch. Not a bad breakfast either. All in all, a lovely stay and great value for money. Thanks to all the staff
Review 80:Nothing. The shower was a bit unpredictable but it did the job.
Review 81:The location, the helpful and friendly attitude of the staff. TV didn't work when I arrived but they had it sorted in no time despite the fact that the hotel was full and they were very busy.
Review 82:When I booked in January I noted that there was no cancellation option. I was none the less surprised to see that the room amount in full was also charged at that time.
Review 83:Pleasant staff. Excellent restaurant menu.
Review 84:The room was a little cold . Hot water bottle available , thought it cute , but I actually did need to use it !
Review 85:The hotel's location is amazing right on the loch side. It's very good value for money and it's quite a charming place. I just wanted a bed for the night while on walking trip but would be worth going back to explore this area.
Review 86:Not a major criticism but the porridge was a bit lumpy. Could be improved on.
Review 87:Great location. Helpful and friendly staff. Good service and a positive attitude from the bar staf despite it being very busy. Just a really nice place to stay and reasonably priced.
Review 88:Uncomfortable bed
Review 89:Friendly staff, spacious public rooms, attractive loch side garden with access to beach and above all glorious vistas of water, light and mountain.
Review 90:Very small room no view as was on top floor with a view on busy main road. No cooked breakfast that was extra and they could not findy booking
Review 91:Location
Review 92:breakfast was a nightmare waitress got all meals wrong in the end we just left without getting it all receptionist came running after us to get paid said we had paid for 1 room but not the other. bar staff were ok but rooms were extremely poor
Review 93:not much except the loch
Review 94:Felt cold especially beside windows in dining room. Some areas a little faded but they are addressing this gradually throughout the hotel which has too many lounges for the number of people staying.
Review 95:Great staff, nothing a bother all requests met at once. Setting wonderful. Good choice from menu well presented and cooked both at breakfast and dinner. Comfortable room with everything we needed.
Review 96:The wifi was erratic. To be fair, it's a remote location, so it could be BT's fault. The shower was also erratic, which is less excusable.
Review 97:The warm welcome and location.
Review 98:The hotel does look tired although refurbishment was being carried out ( which wasn't at all intrusive).
Review 99:The cosy lounge ( with a wood burner that they lit) and friendly staff made us feel right at home. There were also ample board games and books etc. the view from the hotel is beautiful. We are at the hotel and the food was yummy.
Review 100:the beds were not good, the room felt grubby and the smoke alarm beeped all night and the night porter could not be found or reached by phone. I had booked 2 nights however i left the next morning with a 25 pound discount and a promise that the manager would call me about any further refunds !! still waiting for that call.
Review 101:the staff were nice and friendly,
Review 102:Interior decor is dated but acceptable. Minor repairs required to fittings like headboard and taps etc. Good locks on bedroom doors.
Review 103:Staff are very good and friendly, food is good too as is parking. Location for tourists is brilliant. Views are spectacular across the loch.
Review 104:this was our second time returning to Onich hotel for my partners 30th. We asked for a loch view balcony room which we were not given even though both of them lay empty No hot water in shower Rude geordie receptionist about our check out time Bed was too u comfy single beds shoved together to make s double so we kept falling down the middle of the bed Didn't in any way make the 30th special, didn't even acknowledge it No atmosphere A very different hotel compared to 2 years ago when we last visited
Review 105:The food in the resteraunt was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal although we were the only people in the restaurant The location and view was also beautiful
Review 106:The Menu For Evening Meal Was Very Disapointing, Main There Was Two Fish Courses and One Meat We Only Took The Soup From The Starter Menue, AS I Said Very Very Disaponted . Wont Be Back
Review 107:I think we were the only visitors when we visited, it does feel a little dated
Review 108:Large room, nice view, warm and friendly staff, cheapest place we found in the area
Review 109:Bed - not comfy. Could easily hear person in next room....also their TV. (poor sound- proofing).
Review 110:Excellent breakfast & eve meal. Friendly staff. Check out 11am instead of 10am. Folk band 1 eve in bar/lounge which was good...
Review 111:Service both at the reception and restaurant was mediocre at best. There were barely no other guests, so could have not depended on being busy. Couldn't negotiate a bit later check out time, even though most rooms were vacant.
Review 112:Beautiful views from the loch-side rooms. Breakfast service was pleasant, and breakfast superb.
Review 113:My wife and I have food issues. She would have liked the choice of cereals at breakfast.
Review 114:We loved the location on the loch and the Gaelic music on the Saturday night.Staff reception was excellent-nice atmosphere.
Review 115:The bar has lost its cosiness with extension. The extract fan in bathroom noisy. Balcony dirty with fag ends. No hotel info in room - what time breakfast. Communal area decor tired looking.
Review 116:This is the third time I have stayed here. The hotel feels tired and it was very cold although weather was mild. Food was good and reasonably priced
Review 117:Lack of attentiveness of staff on reception. It felt like we were intruding when we entered. Not a good start. Bathroom: Shower doors hanging off and prone to flooding. Informed reception who stated it would be repaired the next day. (To be fair we were given an upgrade because of poor communication or lack of attention of hotel staff. We had to produce booking form from Booking.com to verify the booking requirements.) However the shower was never repaired. Restaurant ok if you like eating in the bar.
Review 118:Fantastic location
Review 119:Wi-fi signal out of range at back of the hotel
Review 120:Loch-side location, and room at the back with view directly onto the loch Good value food for evening meal Comfortable room Close to Glencoe and Fort William
Review 121:Nothing!!!
Review 122:Location & the views are breathtaking. Staff are extremely friendly & helpful. Food was excellent. Room more than comfortable. Can't wait to go back.
Review 123:Erm, nothing really.
Review 124:Everything was ace! Easy to book. Friendly reception staff. Fab afternoon coffee & cream scone in the lounge, where the waiter was friendly and helpful too. The weather was a bit showery but our room was cosy and had everything we needed. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a balcony room due to our first room needing work on it. So we found sofas in our room and loved the balcony with views down the garden to the loch edge and mountains all round. We fell asleep to the sound of the water lapping on the stoney beach. The weather was not cold just a bit showery, so we admired the dramatic scenery and the atmospheric lighting when the sun shone through. The next day we left after breakfast feeling refreshed and sad to leave.
Review 125:The bedroom was rather small. Décor needs updating in some of the communal areas. The service in restaurant was slow.
Review 126:The seating area at the back with the loch view was lovely. Our dogs were welcome in the hotel .
Review 127:Hotel very dated. Needs a full make over, stairs could be dangerous and difficult to navigate particularly if you have mobility issues. Bathroom mould in places, paper peeling in bedrooms extractor fan in the bathrooms very noisy.
Review 128:Great views, staff excellent, nice food.
Review 129:The "matradee". Have never had the displeasure to meet a more rude and obnoxious man in all the hotels I stay in. Made us feel that uncomfortable for sitting in "the residents" lounge that we actually took our drinks up to our room. Rude to myself when I asked if they did separate side dishes as it didn't say on the menu, his response "the menu is the menu and that's it". When my daughter asked for a menu ( without me there I might add) he simply said "it doesn't work like that around here" ! He shouted at bar staff in front of guests. Would not return to this hotel purely on the basis of this man.
Review 130:All of the staff were really lovely apart from one ! Food good, rooms slightly dated but clean and comfortable with everything we needed, great location.
Review 131:No wifi in bedroom or public area at all. Overcharging!!!! Tried to charge £170 instead of £85 for the room, didnt take off £25 deposit and overcharged bar drinks, and reception staff funny when bill was questioned. Would not go back
Review 132:Food excellant Loch view
Review 133:If you look very critically you can find minor faults with this hotel but the whole package was really absolutely excellent.
Review 134:Staff absolutely great. Nothing too much trouble. Food very good. Room good. Very accommodating to our two dogs (large enthusiastic Border Collies) Booking.com did a first class job also. Hotel exactly as expected.
Review 135:Road side location. The hotel is right on the busy A82. Appalling road noise withing rooms at the front of the building precluded sleep. A chef who thought the Lemon Chicken on the menu consisted of burned chicken breast with a lemon wedge on top. A very argumentative night time receptionist. A curtain rail that came off the wall at the slightest touch. A generally run down and deteriorated feeling and appearance of the decoration etc. A hotel manager who couldn't be bothered to discuss my concerns with me when the receptionist called them. I booked for three nights and stayed for one and went and found a lovely hotel in Fort William. I wouldn't stay at the Onich Hotel again if they paid me.
Review 136:The view from the rear of the building. A helpful and sensible day time receptionist when I checked out and who readily agreed that I need not pay for the two cancelled nights of a three night booking because my complaints were valid.
Review 137:The rooms could do with a big of updating as they were looking a bit tired, otherwise very good stay.
Review 138:Fantastic loch location and food was good. Staff were friendly and helpfull.
Review 139:Tired appearance inside and out.
Review 140:Great situation on edge of loch Linnie. Rooms are slightly dated but comfortable with all amenities. WiFi works. Evening meal from my experience are good and breakfast is excellent
Review 141:Hotel could do with the decor updating looked a bit tired.Bathroom was dated and a bit shabby.
Review 142:Great location.Staff were very efficient and friendly and the food was good.
