Reviews for The Salwey Arms
Review 1:A bit odd - breakfast is served until 10.30am but check-out is by 10.00am. We were asked to move from our room before we'd finished our breakfast which was a pity as it was such a lovely hotel and it spoilt things.
Review 2:Lovely room, good food
Review 3:Loved everything about this place. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The staff although young in age were very well trained and professional. The rooms were warm and welcoming and the sleep quality was excellent.
Review 4:Absence of a lounge for residents.
Review 5:The welcoming and cheerful staff who helped us every time we asked for help. The food was excellent and served in a homely environment at a reasonable price. All the choices of menu were lovely, beautiful and delicious! Our wishes made before we arrived were taken on board from the first moment of our stay.
Review 6:unfortunately, a member of staff did not arrive for breakfast service so the cleaner had to take my order. There were no bowls for the cereal so couldn't eat that, couldn't get a cup of tea so waited 20 minutes for a cooked breakfast which arrived nearly cold as the kitchen didn't realise no-one was there to bring it to me.
Review 7:the food was excellent in the restaurant in the evening, the room was very comfortable and no problems getting a WI-FI connection
Review 8:The food was quite fancy and very expensive and nothing exceptional. £10.50 for a small piece of nut roast and salad. Soggy latkes. The Bar could do with some comfy sofas.
Review 9:Atmosphere. Staff. Style and decor.
Review 10:Bedroom itself was a little cramped.
Review 11:The room was very clean. Nice bathroom with choice of bath or shower. Breakfasts were very good, as was the one evening meal we ate there.
Review 12:Location in the middle of nowhere, very loudly from the street since the morning, No access to the building at night - need to awake owner to get back to the hotel. Internet connection very poor - need to login quite often and is using connection all the time.
Review 13:Clearance of the room, huge car park, nice ant helpful staff, bathroom with nice shower.
Review 14:View from room overlooking kitchen roof/ large kitchen extractor but it wasn't noisy so no big deal
Review 15:Lovely comfy bed in a nicely decorated bedroom. Lovely bar area and good menu
Review 16:Loud road noise outside window from 4am!,,very surprised considering position dined during evening starter was good main overcooked or burnt on top not particulsrly good value for money!
Review 17:Lovely staff, very welcoming and helpful from arrival to departure. Food was wonderful, as was the selection of local real ales.Room very clean, comfortable and peaceful even though situated next to the road and above the bar. Very popular with locals and people coming to eat.
Review 18:Kitchen extractor fans right outside our rooms window a little noisy when window open but not smelly, just enough aroma to get your saliva glands going and any idea of a light breakfast lost to history.
Review 19:Good friendly atmosphere. Modern clean lines but decoration very sympathetic to historic building. No packet of pork scratchings here but you can have a large dish full of your choice of nuts, washed down with good wine or real ale. All good.
Review 20:Nice bedroom and spacious bathroom and lovely bed. We had a very tasty meal in the bar/ restaurant , food was great and reasonablyou priced. Breakfast was very good too with plenty of choice and nice fresh coffee.
Review 21:Evening meal took quite a long time to be served but they were quite busy.
Review 22:Very friendly, young owners of hotel, beautiful bedroom, comfy bed, fab breakfast!
Review 23:The only drawback is the traffic that is continually passing the hotel (day and night). Because the hotel is a listed building double glazing cannot be fitted. I am a light sleeper and this really caused me problems.
Review 24:The hotel is superbly decorated and the staff are very welcoming. The breakfasts are fab, so was the evening meal. Our room was delightful.
Review 25:No complaints.
Review 26:Good beer on the bar. Very well appointed and tastefully decorated room. Good shower. Nice coffee and cafetiere. Clarins branded complimentary toiletries! Great Full English breakfasts. Pleasant and friendly staff and proprietor.
Review 27:The hotel was on a busy road and there was a lot of noise from the traffic. We would not have wanted to stay more than one night.
Review 28:A comfortable room which was tastefully decorated. A good bathroom and shower. The food was good and the staff were friendly. Easy to find.
Review 29:Found the room slightly cluttered and the shower room small but adequate for a one night stay.
Review 30:Liked the modern style of décor and the chance to eat in the hotel. Good location when travelling to other destinations.
Review 31:Very attentive and friendly staff, food was to a high standard. Room was extremely clean as was the place in its entirety. Thouroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 32:Spotlessly clean, comfortable room with tasteful décor. Efficient, helpful and charming staff. Excellent food both for breakfast, which was included in room rate, and also for evening dining.
Review 33:Due to the fact I live in the middle of nowhere, I found the slight road noise an irritation but that is simply due to the location of the property - this is not a criticism just an observation for anyone looking for a peaceful location!
Review 34:Hosts were exceptionally welcoming and friendly without being over the top. Food was lovely. Service great! Room gorgeous! Love the ambience of the place! Contemporary without being pretentious!
Review 35:Unfortunately the night we were there the wifi wasn't working in our room so we had to stay downstairs a lot. The location is easy to find but right at the corner of two major roads so it was very noisy.
Review 36:The renovations undertaken at this hotel are very good. Our room was comfortable and stylish. Great bathroom and comfortable bed. The breakfast (included in our booking) was excellent.
Review 37:The breakfast was very poor. My scrambled egg was very overcooked and cold and my husband's cheese and mushroom omelette was also overcooked and burnt.
Review 38:the room was comfortable with tea and coffee facilities and the ensuite was very good. I was able to have the use of a hairdryer. Unfortunately the wifi was not available
Review 39:WiFi not working on our check out day. Television in room not receiving a signal despite many attempts by owner.
Review 40:Most things, Decent food, comfortable bed, Quiet.
Review 41:The mattress was worn out and too small,as was the room. Till the early hours we were kept awake from noice from the doors downstairs.,
Review 42:Meal was excellent ,and staff was very friendly.
Review 43:A very clean and pleasant room with contemporary decoration.A very good bathroom with high quality fittings. breakfast was served up till 11am. And the full English was perfectly presented and cooked to order and was delicious.
Review 44:I didn't sleep very well because of some sort of rubber or plastic sheet on the bed. I know these are becoming increasingly common but I don't like them. My wife slept fine.
Review 45:Food choice and quality was very good. Good drinks selection
Review 46:We ate dinner at a table in the bar area it was not relaxing as there were people passing through constantly - there were however quieter rooms to eat in. Staff were waiting on tables and tending the bar there did not appear to be a designated bar person. Food was good but service could have been better.
Review 47:Owner sent a member of staff out to get a non slip bath mat as my mum was afraid of slipping in the shower. Very kind and helpful. Beautiful interior design.
Review 48:A lovely place to stay with owners who put guests needs as their number one priority. They even gave us a left to Ludlow Racecourse and posted my shoes free of charge when I left them under the bed. Friendly and engaging, with a touch of class.
Review 49:Did find the road outside noisy at times!
Review 50:Our room was comfortable & spotlessly clean. The food was excellent & lots of it! Staff friendly and courteous.
Review 51:Noisy, noisy, noisy. This is an old listed building next to the busy A49 at a crossroads. Because of the age it does not have double glazing so there is a lot of traffic noise. I accept that. However, the bass from the music in the bar carried into the bedroom so insistently that I could not sleep until it was turned off at 1am. And I was woken up by it before 8am. I wore ear plugs and even that was not sufficient. Oddly rhe sound level of the music in the restaurant and bar wasnt particularly loud, but the position of the speakers is presumably exacerbating the problem. And after 2 nights of poor sleep, it's a problem, I seriously considered moving to the travel lodge nearby. The TV in the next room appeared to be against the wall behind our bed, and again given the age of the property the sound carried greatly. I really liked the food and the accommodation but I would not stay here again - purely because of the noise - the music in particular. On the one night there was no music it was bliss, and it didn't seem to be deterring folk from sitting in the bar. Perhaps the owners need to review their music policy and switch it off at 11. Please!
Review 52:The large, light rooms. Good food
Review 53:A no hassle two nights with everything on hand, comfortable bed, friendly and helpful staff. Good food and the general ambiance of the hotel could not be faulted. We look forward to returning.
Review 54:Nothing.
Review 55:The room was lovely, with a very comfortable bed. We had an evening meal both nights and the food was delicious. From booking in to leaving, Cilla and Hugo and all their staff couldn't do enough for us.
Review 56:The hotel was easy to find, had a good amount of parking, the room was lovely, the bed was very comfortable, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was delicious!
Review 57:A long wait for breakfast. Only one member of staff who was serving, taking orders and clearing tables! Toast came minus butter for example so then a long wait for the butter to arrive! A fab breakfast when it did arrive!
Review 58:Decor of rooms and comfort- bed was fab! Clarins toiletries which was a real treat! The log fires where really lovely.
Review 59:We were able to hear other guests in the corridor outside and the stairs which did disturb us. We found the bed a little too soft for our comfort.
Review 60:A very good location for our trip to explore Ludlow. Room was light, clean and very well appointed, with good quality teas and lovely toiletries!
Review 61:Our time at The Salwey Arms couldn't have been any better! With only five rooms, you are treated exceptionally well by the owners Cilla and Hugo, and all their charming staff. As they had an unexpected vacancy on the weekend we stayed, they offered us a free room upgrade to the master bridal suite (Teme) when we were dining in-house downstairs, despite the fact we had already used our current room since checking in! The finish of all the rooms is to a very high standard, with luxury vintage-feel bedrooms, and modern, high-spec bathrooms. Cilla and Hugo went out of their way to make our Valentine's weekend a special one, and we couldn't have been happier with our stay.
Review 62:This wonderful pub with chic rooms was such a pleasant surprise. Cosy fires, warm welcome from the owners and staff, lovely friendly girls. Food really good. Comfortable rooms clean and fresh and cosy. My husband and I were truly impressed. Would stay again without question.
Review 63:I would suggest you seat resident diners away from the bar. We couldn't hear each other talk at one point as a group of local bar users were quite loud.
Review 64:From check in with Cassie, to the beautiful room. The bed was so comfortable and the room spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated . The shower was powerful and hot and the toiletries supplied were also of quality. Our dinner was excellent with generous portions. Breakfast was cooked fresh and was piping hot with quality ingredients used. The staff were lovely. Every one helpful, pleasant and willing to assist. All in all an excellent place to stay.
Review 65:Nothing to dislike hear. Will stay again for sure.
Review 66:Very nice and comfortable. Good location. Free parking. Newly decorated to a very high standard. Nice and homely with great staff and good food.
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:Very friendly hosts who have done a wonderful job of re opening this very conviently situated hotel for ludlow and Shropshire in general. All of the rooms both public and bedrooms are decorated to a high standard and very welcoming. The food was lovely and very fairly priced.
Review 69:Fantastic breakfast food but it lacked the love. Need papers, a tad more selection & the atmosphere could use some work.
Review 70:This is a great place. Really worked for us. The bar has really good products, super food & lovely environment. Room outstanding - clean & luxurious
Review 71:wi-fi was very slow. Underfloor heating in bathroom not on, towel rail in bathroom not working. Had to request a hairdryer twice!
Review 72:Lovely rooms, staff very friendly. Evening meal was great.
Review 73:STAFF ABLE TO PLUG THEIR I PODS INTO THE MUSIC SYSTEM AT BREAKFAST. I DO NOT WANT AN 18 YEAR OLD'S CHOICE OF MUSIC AT BREAKFAST. NO MUSIC AT ALL WOULD BE BETTER. HARD CHAIRS IN THE DINING ROOM. I DID NOT HAVE A MEAL BUT WINE LIST SEEMED TO BE ALL NEW WORLD.
Review 74:NICE TOUCHES, TASTEFULLY DECORATED, GOOD VALUE. OVERALL VERY SATISFIED. I HAD A NICE QUIET ROOM. I KNOW THE ROOM ABOVE THE BAR WAS LESS QUIET.
Review 75:Booming noise from the music system in the bar until after 11.30. It started again in time for breakfast. Also my room was facing a busy noisy road junction.
Review 76:Nicely situated, good food, friendly and helpful staff, spotlessly clean and I liked the cafetiere. Bathroom well equipped and everything worked.
Review 77:Very little room to manouevre in the bedroom - had to move one bed to get to bathroom. Worst meal in years: a "cassoulet" with overcooked chicken pieces and acidic tomato sauce, and a beefburger you could prop a door open with.
Review 78:Our room was directly above the kitchen ventilation, noisy, room was rather small for the cost (£95)
Review 79:Excellent service helped with our bags to our room, immediate service when our lights fused.
Review 80:The Severn has two steps immediately inside the door, but no sign to warn you. The website and room brochure says that a certain range of toiletries, robes etc. are provided; please either provide them or update the literature to reflect what is provided. Loud music from the bar made it difficult to get to sleep in Wye.
Review 81:Beautifully decorated. Friendly staff. Good choice of food and wine; large portions. Great parking.
Review 82:Road noise very noticeable from early morning. Music noticeable until late evening. No problem if this is not a holiday stay. Would still recommend.
Review 83:Large room and bathroom, great breakfast and evening menus. Staff friendly, attentive and efficient.
Review 84:It was odd to be asked to pay for the room when checking in, but -hey ho. My phone was ok with the wi fi but not the I-Pad. Had I been bothered the staff would have sorted it.
Review 85:We thought the staff were well trained and the food was excellent. We were returning to the area for a short touring holiday and the Salwey arms was ideal. We will return!
Review 86:Nothing at all
Review 87:Very prity bedroom ,clean comfortable relaxing decor, excellent ensuite, attention to detail everywhere.food very good menu choice, value for money
Review 88:The Salwey Arms is located at crossroads and the traffic noise would be a problem for some but it didn't disrupt our sleep.
Review 89:Good quality food with very smart, spacious and well equipped rooms with comfortable beds. The staff were very helpful.
Review 90:The walls are so thin that our neighbours' TV kept me awake for hours - and they had the volume set very low. No air conditioning so it got pretty warm at night. No proper shower in the bathroom, which was a shame considering how beautifully it had been done up.
Review 91:Beautiful inn, lovely food, friendly staff, and immaculate decor and cleanliness. Was very impressed by the amount of thought that had gone into the decor with every detail carefully selected (apart from the lack of a shower, which seemed like a bit of an oversight).
Review 92:My room "Tern" overlooked the kitchens and the ventilation system above the kitchen was noisy and on until late, then on again early. The bathroom was adjacent to the road to Wales with traffic including many heavy lorries hurtling by almost non stop. Room was incredibly hot and stuffy so it was necessary to have the fan on almost all the time.
Review 93:Room was clean and comfortable and the food was good and well prepared.
Review 94:Having to ask for a hair dryer when paying £124 per night. Should be provided in the room. One bar of soap for two guests? Doubtless staff wld have provided more but, again, wld need to ask. Smell from the kitchen and noise from the fans meant windows had to be kept shut. No view from our 'luxury' room. Only one armchair for two guests? Room a bit small perhaps. Ordering breakfasts the night before is a no No! Glad we didn't as the menu in the rooms listed fewer choices than the restaurant menu (mushrooms, sausage sandwich etc). Wld stay again as spotlessly clean but not at £124.00 per night local b&bs offer better value, more choice at breakfast and quieter surroundings even on the A49, with bigger rooms and better views. Almost too clinical really.
Review 95:Clean, very clean. Nice decor and furniture. Clarins toiletries. Staff really good if a little frazzled. Ample parking. Handy location.
Review 96:Fair bit of traffic noise if sleeping with open windows
Review 97:Rooms are very large, recently renovated and well equipped. Excellent breakfast and good restaurant menu
Review 98:It's on a busy crossroads. The ventilators from the kitchen don't switch off til very late and are noisy. The evening meal was truly awful: "cassoulet" with over-cooked chicked and chorizo, and a beefburger so ough from over-cooking we took it home to use as a doorstop.
Review 99:Room was well decorated and reasonably equipped, although in 2014 I would expect a choice of morning drinks beyond builders' tea and caffeinated coffee.
Review 100:Very noisy road right outside the bedroom. No double glazing. Traffic disturbed our sleep until past midnight, then from 7am the following morning. WiFi was free but connection dropped every few minutes and would not reconnect.
Review 101:A nice bright modern place to stay. Cheerful staff.
Review 102:We booked in for breakfast the night before, but when we came down for breakfast no table was ready, we were told to help ourselves to cereals and juice yet weren't told where to find them, after asking we got cereals sat down then had to find the waitress for cutlery , felt like we were left to our own devices really, like the lady was too busy, and we were an inconvenience for her.
Review 103:Very comfortable bed!! Lovely room, nice breakfast.
Review 104:A little close to the road...a slight humming noise in the bedroom due to the proximity of the kitchen, but to be fair...we weren't really bothered!
Review 105:Very friendly and efficient staff (thanks to Charlotte for putting our bags on the side as we arrived early and the room wasn't ready...and for the quality of service of each and every employee during our stay). Very clean + an excellent breakfast!
Review 106:Near to roads. Although rooms are at back and can hardly hear traffic. Everything else was excellent though.
Review 107:Staff and room excellent. Great value for money.
Review 108:Would like hairdryer provision in room - away 10 days and did not pack one as staying in hotels each night.
Review 109:Lovely old coaching inn tastefully updated. Rooms very nice with beautiful luxury touch of Clarins toiletry products. Staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant even when very busy in Bistro. Food good quality, well priced. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 110:The room was well appointed, comfortable with a very clean and nice bathroom. Evening meal and Breakfast were excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again in the future.
Review 111:Our room was a little close to the kitchen fans but this had little impact as they turned off at 21.30, it could provide an alarm clock as they came on at 07.30. The rooms are not air conditioned but a fan was provided.
Review 112:The owners and staff were most helpful at all times and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The distance into Ludlow was a very simple drive and on the night we stayed in to eat the evening meal was up to a standard to be expected in the Ludlow area. The breakfasts were freshly cooked and of a good standard with a wide choice.
Review 113:Reception rooms layout not good, having to go through dining area to get to bars and outside patio.Guest soft seating areas very limited. Very small bedroom. Beds - well I have slept in many that are more comfortable. Lot of road noise due to windows only single glazed.
Review 114:Great restoration of dilapidated road side inn - no expense spared. Quality fittings throughout AND 'top end' toiletries' in bathrooms. Good selection of food for all tastes.
Review 115:Empty lot next door. Bit of an eyesore, but when you step inside the Salwey Arms, you're so comfortable, it just isn't a problem.
Review 116:No complaints! Everything great. Immaculately clean room and public areas. Great welcome. Great service. Good varied menu, reasonably priced. Very popular with local. Do make sure you reserve a table for dining.
Review 117:Felt I was second class. Breakfast was a circus Checking in became a circus, someone was still in my room! Breakfast staff, seemed not interested and slow.
Review 118:evening meal was very good. shower good. room tea & coffee good. evening staff good but a bit under pressure.
Review 119:Lack of customer service. Never anyone at reception or bar when going for drinks. No ice. Told to go in from outdoir bar to indoor bar for ice, when get there no ice!!! How do u serve cocktails with no ice??? Queue at bar inside but no staff, phone ringing, staff then answer phone and leave queue waiting and no explaination. Felt a little pressured to come back to hotel early as the doors shut at 12 midnight but can be arranged to have door opened if required. Not aware that there were cereals/juice available at breakfast.
Review 120:Facilities great. Breakfast was very good. Comfy beds. Powerful shower. Lovely decor. Great bar and outdoor grill. £10 in taxi to Ludlow. Staff friendly but appeared to be doing lots of different roles.
Review 121:All the staff at The Salwey gave me a very warm welcome and I would defo stop by again for a few glasses of Prosecco with the team! all the best, Craig H.
Review 122:Could not fault a thing !!
Review 123:A perfect "pub with rooms" and our room was a delight, equipped with everything needed for a four night stay. The breakfasts were a real treat and set you up for the day. We ate in every night, good pub food was served from a varied menu. The staff could not have been nicer or more genuinely courteous. We will certainly stay here again if coming to Shropshire another time.
Review 124:As this hotel is situated on a busy road there is some traffic noise, this did not bother us but if you like total peace and quiet to be able to sleep then maybe not for you.
Review 125:Our room was beautiful, French style furniture with plenty of room, the bathroom was huge with a roll top bath, his and hers basins and a star ceiling which has to be seen to be believed. The staff were all friendly and the meals were of good quality.
Review 126:N/A.
Review 127:Lovely rooms and décor throughout. Beautifully finished. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Garden area as nice as inside. Car park good size and distanced within easy reach of Ludlow. Will stay here again in the future.
Review 128:Noise of the traffic zooming and rumbling by, did stop later in the evening.
Review 129:Lovely, tasteful decor, some very pleasant original touches. Very friendly, helpful staff. Food excellent. Facilities outside and inside, excellent.
Review 130:Room at the back not the prettiest of views but it really didnt matter as the room itself was absolutely lovely
Review 131:Beautiful place. Comfortable and cosy room. Everywhere spotlessly clean and tidy. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food ...good plate full, hot and well cooked.
Review 132:Road noise from outside was very loud
Review 133:Great service great staff and food was exceptional
Review 134:excellent friendly staff excellent food
