Reviews for Hotel Wroxham
Review 1:.Nothing at all to report here apart from the beastly weather but not even Wendy can do much about that.
Review 2:A super hotel which is under new owners who really care. A lot of renovation is being undertaken but did not interfere with our stay. Wendy, the owner is a delightful lady who cares about her guests and one could not ask for more unobtrusive care. The food we had was wonderful although a horrid cold did not help my taste buds. The balcony rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. Altogether a most pleasant stay and we look forward to another visit to view the finished renovation. The prospects look almost too good to be true. Well done the bridge.
Review 3:As I suffer with arthritis in my legs I didn't like the stairs to our room, it would have been nice if there had been a lift, but I suppose with the layout of the hotel it would not be possible. The hotel is being refurbished at the moment so it doesn't look it's best at the moment, but having said that the hotel is spotlessly clean in spite of builders about the place.
Review 4:The friendliness of all staff. The room we had was very new and comfortable with ensuite bathroom. The view from the dining room/lounge is excellent watching the boats and swans on the river. The food was quite good too. The bar is very well stocked.
Review 5:The hotel is rundown and overpriced in the off peak season but it needs a lot of tlc to bring it up to scratch
Review 6:The staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The quality of the food was first class as was the house wine The new owner was efficient and given time she will tidy up the hotel to a much higher standard
Review 7:Only bit of advice is creating a family room or two as I have two children and would love to come with them :)
Review 8:We stayed here for the new year .. The new owner was very helpful and everyone was very welcoming .. The room was lovely and could see it was freshly painted .. She wants to improve the accommodation and once she has this will be a fantastic hotel . The entertainment for New Years was really good .. Can't remember her name but she sang a variety of songs and had s lovely voice .. The owner said she will be hiring her again for the next new year so we would like to return again next new year .. I would recommend this hotel and will be returning again :)
Review 9:None
Review 10:The overall experience. OK so it is marked up as a 2 star, Yes its a little run down at present, due to the previous owners. but the refurbishments are underway, and in our opinion this is at present a 3 star The Place as been recently taken over and we were made very welcome All the staff were very friendly and courteous Parking is free The food was fantastic, and the room was clean and very comfortable and had a very well stocked Bar There was a New years party, we didn't attend, as the menu wasn't to our liking, but having spoken to other guests, they thoroughly enjoyed it Will definitely stay there again
Review 11:The staff were not in control of the hotel, maybe time of the year, always distracted with friends. Who was the manager. Was there a Manager? This hotel needs to be updated, bedrooms, dining and reception. Hotel was warm. Good comfy bed in the room. Couldn't believe the NY dinner price £65 pp. what???
Review 12:Location was good.
Review 13:I have booked 1 night at this hotel, for 1 adult, 1 child (7year old) following Booking website required then choose room for 2 persons, got confirmation email but I didn't check. Got to the hotel then in the confirmation said "guest max 1 person" then staff said booking didn't register children options with them. Dealing between agency and hotel how would you expect customer know? At the end I have to pay extra for my son event I have tried explain to staff but unhelpful!
Review 14:A little upgrading in places,a little tired for 21 century..
Review 15:Right next to river and great view across from our balcony room. Central to all shops and restaurants.Very good breakfast with great choice.
Review 16:Low water pressure meant shower was restricted to a useless trickle. No bedside lamp or switch by the bed to turn off light. Manager had breakfast in bar adjoining breakfast room and held a loud conversation about hotel affairs. An additional chair would have been useful.
Review 17:Comfortable bed, excellent breakfast
Review 18:Few teething problems. Only one bedside light as socket defective. Shower was very weak then ran freezing cold. Only able to wash my short hair - turned cold as I rinsed shower gel off. Toilet was running all night. Room must be by boiler room as there was constant noise like engine on boat.
Review 19:Hotel very clean. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Staff friendly and helpful. Food good. New Manager Wendy working some magic on upgrade
Review 20:Small issue... We don't use heating at home as we are always busy so if you really need a fault, the room was too hot but perfect for normal people
Review 21:It was not just one member of staff that was good it was all who we spoke to and the food was better than expected. If we had to find a fault we couldn't! Sorry
Review 22:The proprietor is out to please and that is all important to any traveler. Wonderful location and close enough to shops in the evening without being noisy.
Review 23:Tables in the bar area were dirty, and service was efficient but lacked warmth.
Review 24:Excellent location, directly on the river. Great views from our balcony room, which was clean and comfortable.
Review 25:Not a critism as such , but as only just changed hands there is a lot of maintenance and improvements going on , I knew this when I booked and this was reflected in the excellent room rate during my visit
Review 26:Perfectly situated for lovers of the Norfolk Broads, balcony rooms give a river view that is hard to better
Review 27:The shower. But as it's not long been taking over we understand that changes Are in progress.
Review 28:location lovely. all the staff where friendly. The owner taking time to chat with all quests. Cleanliness
Review 29:This hotel has a wonderful position on the river Bure at wroxham . the facilities were wonderfully clean and all the staff were helpful and courteous .The new owner has done wonders in the eight week that she has owned the hotel. Really excellent stay .
Review 30:The hotel has a 60s look and feel. Being it is under new ownership I look forward to seeing it updated.
Review 31:Location excellent staff very helpful. Parking is good, convenient . Being on the river adds to the stay.
Review 32:No major gripes if we had to be picky car park needs work done on it .
Review 33:Location lovely views of river from balcony rooms. Staff friendly and helpful and new owner has plans to update rooms. We will definately come back to see if her plans work out.
Review 34:This hotel has just recently been taken over by a new owner, and it has a much better atmosphere than in the past. We had a lovely stay, the new owner was most welcoming and the breakfast was very nice and plentiful.
Review 35:Couple of issues but these were quickly sorted. Only a few weeks since take over. Will be interested to see if plans come to fruition. Friendly owner and staff.
Review 36:Location looking over river. Food was good.
Review 37:Reception staff not helpful , internet not available in rooms - even though promised , shower did not work correctly - low power & boil or freeze , furniture in rooms V poor & dated , whole room / place in need of a makeover ,and with exception of young waitress at breakfast in need of some customer service training
Review 38:Friendly service at breakfast , food was adequate.
Review 39:The decor is a little worn. The owner only took over the premises 8 weeks ago and is currently scheduling improvements.
Review 40:A beautiful riverside location. The staff at the hotel were very helpful and accomodating. The food was lovely.
Review 41:Room was too warm when we arrived so we had to open the window. Sink drainage was very slow. Shower was a bit cramped. Wifi didn't reach the room.
Review 42:Excellent restaurant food and bar (great beer choice). Nice view from bar overlooking the river. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Good parking close to hotel.
Review 43:the hotel is going through a change of ownership, this meant meal prices and menus changed daily during our stay and the popular carvery was discontinued
Review 44:the room overlooked the river,we had a balcony, very clean, staff all very pleasent and helpful
Review 45:Although clean and tidy rooms are rather past their best and rather dated but I am confident that this will be addressed by the new management.
Review 46:Place to watch. New management has good plan. Public spaces relaxing and nicley appointed, with pleasant staff. Food good. Bedroom clean and tidy with nice view.
Review 47:On arrival it was difficult to find hotel car park. Room overlooked a grotty car park . My other observation was that the shower head needed a good clean.
Review 48:The food was excellent. Staff very helpful.
Review 49:The hotel is tired. The balcony is great if you stand but if you are sitting the balcony bars are right in the eye line. The reception was poorly staffed and staffed with people who didn't know what they were doing. I had to ring the bell twice and the manageress walked past me twice without acknowledgement.
Review 50:The hotel is situated right on the river and is central to the town. The bed was comfy. The bar staff were understaffed but excellant. For a two star hotel this was absolutely fine.
Review 51:I travelled with my dad we had a. Lovely view after changing rooms to suit my dads conditions. Staff were brilliant excellent for our needs nothing too much trouble would recommend and stay there again.
Review 52:Just in need of re-decoration, all a bit tired. Shower poor, variable temperature, poor flow.
Review 53:Super king bed, decent sized telly, proper kettle. Very helpful and cheerful staff. Our room had a balcony overlooking the river so could not have been better.
Review 54:The fixtures and fittings are tired and worn out.The dinning room has no atmosphere and very dusty under the tables. The bar area is cluttered with regular customers, so very hard to get served. Im sure with a deep cleaning new carpets a lick of paint and the dinning area livened up it will be a great place to stay. The noise needs to be addressed - air conditioning system.
Review 55:Staff very helpful polite and efficient
Review 56:Did not like the buffet breakfast.. Found the meal was cold (think people leave the lids off the containers). Would have preferred to have the meal freshly cooked by the Chef.
Review 57:We love the view from the balcony. Always try and get book the room/balcony. Bed and bed linen - comfy and very clean
Review 58:Food badly prepared. Breakfast and evening meal. Hotel looking tired.
Review 59:Under new management, they need a chance to sort the staff and kitchen out. The location was good.
Review 60:The hotel has changed ownership in the last few weeks so not really fair to comment but the rooms definitely need some TLC.
Review 61:The view from the bar/breakfast room is lovely, overlooking the river. The young breakfast waitress was excellent.
Review 62:The price! £100 for a room that looked over a car park at the back of the hotel! The hotel is run down and desperate for an upgrade! You could stay in the 5 star Dunston Hall in Norwich for £80!!!
Review 63:The Staff
Review 64:Whilst staff tried hard ,I think some additional training is required in Customer Service. I.E . Asked for early morning call & Newspaper.Didn't get 1st & had to collect the newspaper from reception, even though the information pack said it would be delivered to room. Also wasn't made aware that WiFi was available.
Review 65:The friendliness of the staff
Review 66:The hotel needs an update but this is in hand and I believe under thenew ownership this will happen and it will happen quickly andeffectively.
Review 67:The hotel has just been taken over and although there are a fewchallenges I think the new owner will turn it around in no time andensure that it becomes really first class. The staff were all sofriendly and helpful and the food was delicious
Review 68:Position, and riverside rooms-wise, couldn't have better views of the Broads. Talking of bedrooms the beds are fairly comfy but this hotel is SO in need of having some money thrown at it. Public areas are very sad, horrid carpet and dirty windows. However staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 69:As new management, wholly understand delays in updating décor, dining seating and only one staff called us 'guys'- phew If better dining menu would have eaten in each evening.. I need to go for a King size bed versus standard double next time.
Review 70:Location- perfect waterside views of boats and swans, geese & occasional heron, Excellent breakfasts and courteous, helpful staff. Super comfy bed.
Review 71:Very poor shower over the bath. Flimsy curtain so bathroom floor was soaked. Décor bit tired.
Review 72:Location. Evening meal lovely with a music quiz, although didn't take part, very entertaining.
Review 73:Despite receiving an email confirmation, when we got to the hotel there was no booking via Booking.com. Therefore we did not get our harbour view room. The hotel is extremely tired but has recently been bought by a new owner so hopefully will be updated. It could be very nice.
Review 74:The staff were very helpful and pleasant and found us a room despite our booking not being found.
Review 75:Room 7 rather small and very hot bedding also too much extremely noisy with cooling unit under room l realise l did not have much choice having booked late but that is due to me having chemotherapy would come again but book a suite
Review 76:The dining room was poorly attended at breakfast service was poor. The bar area was in a bad condition. The towels supplied in our room didn't smell fresh
Review 77:The location. The room was clean. The staff were friendly
Review 78:The decor was tired and out-dated and would benefit from refurbishment, especially the carpets paintwork and new baths.
Review 79:The food was very good, the staff complimented this by being friendly, efficient, and very helpful.
Review 80:Building is hopelessly outdated and in need of a major refurbishment. When you sit out on your balcony, the concrete balustrade cut right acRoss your view of the river. The shower was rubbish!
Review 81:Breakfast was good. Staff were good
Review 82:Nothing we didn't like, but the hotel could do with being updated inside and out ( making the hotel as perfect as its location ).
Review 83:Breakfast included in price, bed comfort, friendly staff and great view
Review 84:the attentiveness of the staff in all departments, they made us feel very at ease. And the breakfast is one of the best I have had in a hotel for a long time
Review 85:Despite all the negative feedback I have read we found the hotel perfect for our needs, all the staff were friendly and helpful, sitting on the balcony watching the boats was perfect, the room was clean and tidy, nice to see a full size kettle unlike the camping ones more expensive hotels give you, will stay again.
Review 86:the general state of the hotel was in need of brightening up and needed decorating. The rooms were fair but getting past their sell buy date.
Review 87:watching the boats in and out of Wroxham and how the "mariners" fared. The ducks and geese were well fed and the kids loved them. Staff were very pleasant and served the food or drinks efficiently.
Review 88:The second time i went was in the wroxham suite where the best was so uncomfortable i was awake most of the night and the rooms are far to warm
Review 89:I love this hotel and been a couple of times will go again and would recommend it highly
Review 90:The whole place needs a makeover, tired and shabby,for£100 a night I expected a better menu than chips with everything, the twin room beds were small and the duvets thin and slipped off easily
Review 91:Location at the waterside lots going om
Review 92:table waiting staff could have been better, eg. pots of breakfast tea brought promptly but had to ask for cups and saucers as we had selected a window seat table that had not been prepared between sittings, and evening dishes were left, even when dessert had been served to us.
Review 93:Bar and reception staff very friendly and helpful
Review 94:Bed a bit hard. Spots of drink on skirting in bedroom and small flies in bedroom by curtain. There was a big cobweb in breakfast room
Review 95:Location and friendly staff. Breakfast was super
Review 96:Badly managed & inexperienced young staff, overpriced, outdated & 1 of the chefs didn't know what a hard bold egg was. Should this hotel be renamed fawlty towers?
Review 97:The location
Review 98:Hotel generally in need of some TLC, room quite dated although generally clean. Car parking shared with non-residents so could be a problem. Even so, would happily stay there again given location.
Review 99:Outstanding location. Full English breakfast included in room rate was good.
Review 100:Hotel is a bit dated and probably could do with an update door of room was a problem to lock and we were not the only guests to have that problem due to the amount of banging doors during evening and morning which proved annoying.
Review 101:location,location,location ,on riverside , we had a balcony room which was nice and made our stay more enjoyable
Review 102:Run Down Decor balconys need updating Poor Bathroom Needs Refit Cheap fittings and fixtures need replacing Mould in bathroom Basic pub grub
Review 103:Nice Staff Very good breakfast
Review 104:Shower attachment should be removed from bath as it didnt even manage to produce a trickle. WiFi signal in room was poor, unmade twin bed made room look untidy and unwelcoming
Review 105:Staff were lovely
Review 106:door of the room didn't lock needed assistance then 'with the knack' took 5 mins each time to lock. Wi-Fi didn't work in the room. Bed had seen better days. Building a bit tired, but clean.
Review 107:staff were nice. Breakfast was a lot of choice. Bar staff great, location good.
Review 108:Room desperately needs refurbishing.. Booked balcony room especially because of the location however, you need to stand up to see over balcony. Bad design... Couldn't get wi fi in room as advertised..Grubby
Review 109:Plenty hot water..
Review 110:the hotel needs a revamp although it is very clean the resturant area and landings to the rooms all had a funny smell like it needed new carpet. the resturant needed updating as this let the hotel down. we only ate in the hotel for breakfast and went out for dinner which is a shame as the view is lovely.
Review 111:the location was excellent and the staff were very helpfull and friendly. Free WiFi was a bonus and useful when looking for places to visit.
Review 112:Small double bed with no warning. Very soft bed Dirty stained carpets throughout No privacy nets on windows overlooking Post Office Yard Ancient bathroom
Review 113:Breakfast
Review 114:The hotel is very dated and could do with a refit to bring it out of the seventies! Nice terrace from bar area but metal chairs are so uncomfortable, you don't feel like staying for long.
Review 115:Clean room and comfy bed. Lovely views if staying in a balcony room but others just overlook the car park.
Review 116:Poor performance wi-fi in the room
Review 117:Having read mixed reviews,it was with some trepidation that I booked an overnight stay. My concern evaporated upon arrival when advised of a free upgrade to suite overlooking the river and boats. A very comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast selection. Would certainly recommend to others.
Review 118:Overpriced - would have felt this even if room price was halved. Unclean - cutlery/crockery at breakfast was never clean and rooms little better. Shower was useless. No wifi in room despite being advertised. Area beneath room was used by staff for cigarette breaks so often could smell the smoke and hear their arguments which usually included swearing if window was open.
Review 119:Nice location
Review 120:The steep stairs . The concrete ceilings I was charged for 2 breakfasts that I didn't have and never want..but a lot of places impose this charge I find. I also miss having a top sheet which is needed in hot weather when duvets are too warm , This was provided when I mentioned it after a very hot night.
Review 121:I liked the location almost next door to my son's boat in the mooring. I liked the good service.,better than earlier visits over the years, Seemed to have more staff. Very pleasant. Also the noise of an industrial fan was not heard from the post office head quarters attached That was good.
Review 122:the restuant had run out of some items on the menu by 7pm and we had to go out to a "dead" and "closed" town to find an evening meal.
Review 123:hotel was easy to find and on our route but difficult to find the free car park that was, when located, very close to the hotel door.
Review 124:Cleaner forgot to clean our room. Reception very apologetic
Review 125:The view from the hotel balcony was excellent. The food is also very good and staff very friendly.
Review 126:breakfast cold, sausages wasn't cooked, bacon was hardly cooked ,had evening meal waited ages and wasn't really hot,
Review 127:best location on the broads
Review 128:The food was very below par and expensive. The first room was dirty, smelly and very tatty. The bathroom cracked and grubby. The room overlooked a shopping mall with shabby shops and was very noisy. On complaining that we were paying well over $200 AUD the manager did relocate us to another room which was slightly newer in decoration but otherwise much the same but did have the advantage of a small balcony and nice views of the Broads. The real downside was the small double bed had a large dip in the middle resulting in two adults not getting any sleep and ending up trying to sleep on the hard floor. That along with pillows as flat and smelly as a used sponge resulted us in canceling the remaining two nights of our stay and moving onto a 'Brand' name hotel outside of Norwich.
Review 129:The view and easy access to boat hire facilities. The manager Mark who attempted to give us a better room. And allowing us to cancel the remaining two nights of our booking.
Review 130:The rooms were very warm and the place looks a bit tired. Pictures removed in room but not decorated. I think it was a bit pricey for what we got.
Review 131:Excellent breakfast and nice location.
Review 132:The absence of a list placed a sever demand on my limited mobility.
Review 133:A room with a balcony overlooking the river. The site of the hotel could support a far grander hotel, but we were grateful for the modest price for our stay at such a pime location.
Review 134:Unfortunately the restaurant only serves the Carvery in the day and there was only a simple menu with tv football playing intrusively. We left and ate at a local pub. Decor tired.
Review 135:Furnished balcony facing the sun and pretty river.Bright airy room and central to Wroxham amenities. Big tasty breakfast.Good value.
Review 136:In room the carpet was dirty and need of a clean, the upholstery was grubby and the room was so basic it resembled a cheap B&B.The plughole was all rusted in sink and bath had a scummy residue. No initial parking it was taken by non residents and our view overlooked car park and a dilapitated roof. There was only plastic cups in bathroom no glasses and kettle didnt work.
Review 137:Location
Review 138:Brilliant location good to have a balcony, the staff are excellent even rang to warn us prior to arriving that there was a birthday party in one of the bars on the Saturday night in case we wanted to cancel, been to a 5 star hotel that didn't do that
Review 139:needs more attention to small things such as outside sitting area needs sprucing up and we had a balcony the balcony needed cleaning little things but these matter
Review 140:Friendly staff helpful and very good breakfast chef very accommodating and service very good
The Fine Print
