Reviews for Inn at Ardgour
Review 1:The only downside is the £8 each way on the ferry. Shame the council doesn't offer a concession for hotel guests
Review 2:Nice well run friendly hotel/pub
Review 3:Might suggest when duvets are being replaced that a larger size is selected.
Review 4:Great Location, excellent breakfast. Evening meals were very good. Friendly establishment, cosy and great staff. We were well looked after. Before booking we read some of the feedback by others. Any negativity expressed by others was not experienced by us. Too easy to criticise on line and some folk need a reality check. Excellent WiFi throughout the premises. We were impressed and stay in a lot of B&B establishments. Would definitely stay again.
Review 5:I thought the location was great. This is the second time we have come for new year and enjoyed the whole new year atmosphere and this time brought friends
Review 6:The pillow's were a bit hard for my taste. Unfortunately on the second night we got smash with our venison casserole, totally ruined the meal. C'mon how much does it cost to boil a pan of tatties? Boiled tatties/smash made the difference of a 9.6 to a 10 review. **food in a ***star hotel, expected just a wee bit more.
Review 7:Staff were very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. Hotel was very warm and cosy. Breakfast was great and room was very comfortable and cosy with great view of the waterfront. Despite other review's about ferry noise in the morning it didn't bother us and I'm a light sleeper. All in all we had a lovely stay and will come back again to further explore the area. Great value for money.
Review 8:Great " get away from it all" location, fantastic views, friendly staff, lovely breakfasts. Room was a really good size and very comfortable. Enjoyed our stay!
Review 9:Staff were extremely helpful as we got caught up in an accident and they gave us good advise as well as kept the restaurant open so we could have a meal.
Review 10:The location suited us perfectly as we had never toured that area and we're so glad we did as the scenery was outstanding. We thought that having the ferry right outside our bedroom window may disturb us but no, would definitely book a return trip.
Review 11:Needing to break out journey we spent one night at the Inn of Ardgour. It was a wonderful choice. The staff were friendly, the room clean and comfortable and the views were an absolute joy.
Review 12:nothing
Review 13:The beautiful location, scenery and peace, despite the ferry being 30 yards away. The owners and staff were really friendly and helpfull. Food at both dinner and breakfast was well cooked and enjoyable. Good ale & wine
Review 14:All good I would actually rate it 8.5 not 7.5
Review 15:After an horrendous journey in terrible weather the clean comfortable room was a godsend add that to welcoming staff and bar which allowed our dog in whilst we had our meal, also setting breakfast in the bar for us next morning so she didn't have to be left.
Review 16:Right opposite the ferry terminal. OK for us but not for everyone. Weekday and Saturday ferries start up at 6:30 ish and if you're a light sleeper..... Also, no mention of ferry costs in the booking info - would have been helpful, since we wanted to locate close to Glen Coe for hiking and it did add to our costs taking the ferry every day.
Review 17:Laid-back and natural atmosphere. Lovely, friendly staff. Great old-fashioned pub atmosphere to relax in at the end of a long hiking day!
Review 18:Nothing loved it all
Review 19:The location was stunning our room was overlooking the loch. Food was excellent and the staff were really helpful. Lovely walk down the edge of the loch ideal for dog walking
Review 20:This gorgeous little Inn has it all!! Charm, comfort, warm welcomes, great food and fantastic location. I would definately recommend this Inn - and the ferry ride was awesome (however a little expensive).
Review 21:We were not aware there was a ferry needed to get there, we were very lucky as we got the last one!
Review 22:Great place to stay Excellent breakfast Good value for $ Our room had a great view
Review 23:The so called restaurant food. The meal I ordered came with instant mash with 3 oat biscuits stuck upright in the mash 3 slices of catering haggis mashed swede and a poor excuse for a whiskey sauce. The meal was(microwaved )The so called chef had little command of English ,but was a pleasant young man ,whom was up a ladder watering a hanging basket 10 minuets before serving dinner (not a chef ,his fault no the owners)
Review 24:Welcome was good, and particularly appreciated not having to carry luggage upstairs, and wifi that actually reached to the room... a difference to many other B&B. Location was also spectacular with views directly up the loch
Review 25:Nothing
Review 26:We were walking Ben Nevis then staying over it was really quick on the ferry crossing and only about 15 drive from fort William. The food and general atmosphere of the place was excellent would recommend it we will be back
Review 27:We were dissapointed with our evening meal. Although the vegetables were nice , they gave us instant mash !!!!
Review 28:I liked the view of Loch Linney from our room and the idea of taking a ferry to the hotel. It gave an island atmosphere. we watched the ferry come and go until it was time to call it a day around 9.30. They dropped anchor in the lake and a little boat went out to collect the crew As they dimmed the lights it took on a magical quality and looked like a castle on the lake
Review 29:We stopped there for three nights and the tea tray was not topped up. This is not a good practice, as we paid the same for each night.
Review 30:The location is ideal for the ferry
Review 31:Your paying more for the location. The rooms although clean were very dated. The breakfast was ok but not a lot of choice if you didn't have something cooked. The price was almost double that of a Premier Inn
Review 32:Great view from the room of the Loch and shower was very good
Review 33:The first ferry is at 6.30 am during weekdays, meaning that you may be awaken by the noise if you have a light sleep.
Review 34:The location is very quiet but stunning. The ferry trip to Corran is very short and free for peatons and cyclists.
Review 35:The price was high for the standard of accommodation but I think it was average for that part of Scotland at this time of year.
Review 36:Lovely location, breakfast was decent. Had a really fun night meeting some of the locals in the bar.
Review 37:We were really disappointed with the food here. Breakfast is cumbersome as everything has to be ordered, apart from orange juice and cereals. Moreover, the food quality at breakfast and during the one dinner we had was below average. Bland, uninspired and expensive. Overall, although the location, service, atmosphere and comfort are good, we felt we had not such a good deal in terms of price-quality ratio.
Review 38:Fantastic location (bear in mind it costs GBP8 to take a car across the ferry to get here), cosy old-fashioned hotel run by a very nice family. Good choice for a family with kids if you can get the family room/suite.
Review 39:The wifi wasn't working which was a shame however I do believe this wasn't actually a fault of the hotel and more a provider issue. Wouldn't stop me returning.
Review 40:Excellent hotel in a beautiful location. Very peaceful and the beds were very comfy. Nothing felt like too much trouble and I really appreciated them accomodating our pet dog too! Restaurant food was very good too. Highly recommend.
Review 41:Nothing to do with the hotel/inn - but the clouds were at Loch level and therefore we did not experience the stunning location.
Review 42:Good menu choice and great beer.
Review 43:If you want to sleep in late the ferry starts in the morning at 6ish and has a little siren that sounds. Great for those of us who love the sea and all that goes with it:) The view of he loch at the hour is wonderful! If you are not a morning person then this early morning activity would be the only downside.
Review 44:Loved the view!!!! The little beach, lighthouse, ferry ride and Family room with 3 bunk beds. Picturesque:)
Review 45:Pillows! But that's a personal bug-bear as I like them soft and fluffy and these were a little hard, but really the view from the bed makes up for it! We had our evening meal here, which was good food, if not a little bland but overall this really is a great little gem of a hotel in the magnificent highlands.
Review 46:Second stay here with our beloved Labrador and we cannot fault it, a superb location, wonderful views, extremely caring and thoughtful staff, incredibly clean rooms and good value. Will most definitely be back for a third visit. Second visit was with family from Canada and they were astonished it was only 3*.
Review 47:The ferry starts early so be warned if you want a lie in
Review 48:Loch Linnhe was right outside the window, views up to Fort William and Ben Nevis, food superb, friendly staff, ferry docks opposite.
Review 49:The ferry stops running at 9:30pm.
Review 50:Luke and his staff were extremely accommodating. Luke is also very knowledgeable about Scottish history and so interesting to visit with. from our window we watched sheep walking down the middle of the Main Street, which gave us a chuckle.
Review 51:The whole place looks tired and we did not feel particularly welcome. The dining room looks rather like a canteen and is cramped and charm-free. Feels overpriced for what you get.
Review 52:The hotel has a great location right by the ferry at Ardgour and the rooms at the front have a lovely view of the loch. The bar area had a pleasant atmosphere and the burgers were excellent! Service was efficient and reasonably friendly. The shower was very good!
Review 53:slightly shabby exterior doesn't give the best first impression, but excellent inside with plenty of character.
Review 54:superb view up the loch, the comfort of the beds and the breakfast was all excellent - I would certainly stay here again and would be my first choice in this area
Review 55:It was clean, warm and welcoming. We had dinner in the pub and it was terrific. Would stay here again. The drive from Corran toward Fort William (on same side as the Inn at Ardgour) was a highlight of our trip.
Review 56:Beautiful old building with comfortable rooms and a magnificent view across the loch. The proprietor and staff are very friendly and keen to assist. The food is great.
Review 57:Very narrow single beds. The feeling that with some care and attention to decor and furnishings, it could be turned into something still simple and inn-like, but much better.
Review 58:Setting, by the loch and (adding interest) the ferry. Very pleasant staff. Easy parking. Good pub food and good breakfasts. Typical old Scottish inn. A good place for a good value night or two.
Review 59:Would have liked fresh fruit salad for breakfast and yoghurt which did not have preservative. I'm allergic to preservatives.
Review 60:View from window. Friendliness of staff.
Review 61:Vegetarian breakfast could be much better. The mushrooms and tomato breakfast ordered was a few mushrooms and half a tomato.
Review 62:The views are absolutely wonderful and one can walk for miles along the side of the loch. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Evening menu is good. Bedroom was clean and bed comfortable.
Review 63:The rooms were susceptible to noise from other tenants, you could hear others walking around and talking.
Review 64:The staff were great. The location was different being beside the water. The food was good. The room facilities were good.
Review 65:Poor quality bed linen - particularly poor pillows. Accommodation very tired and in need of refurbishment. Staff accommodated in caravans out the back and sadly looked tired and run down. No element of staff looking bright and well turned out to meet customers. Sad too that good Scottish hospitality appears to be lacking particularly for all our foreign visitors. As one of the German tourists said to us whilst we were there - They are charging London prices just because they can because there is no other choice.
Review 66:Location excellent. Beautiful views and directly opposite Corran Ferry terminal. Staff obviously do their best to maintain a good standard of cleanliness despite internal fabric and furnishings.
Review 67:The Inn is in a wonderful location on the shore of the Lock over looking ferry. The staff were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. The food ( dinner and breakfast ) was great.
Review 68:Absolutely nothing - we couldn't find anything to complain about.
Review 69:Friendly staff, clean rooms, great food and drink, large selection available, location was great - photo's can't do it justice.
Review 70:Need to catch £8 ferry every time you go to Fort William or else drive a further 20 (beautiful) miles. Walls were quite thin.
Review 71:Amazing views from bedroom, good breakfast, dog friendly.
Review 72:No complaints
Review 73:A comfortable warm room, a welcoming and lively bar with a good menu of excellently cooked local food. Breakfast was generous as was the packed lunch we requested.
Review 74:Location, location, location. Great stop off point before travelling further north. Loved the ferry - but you have to be prepared to pay £8 each way.
Review 75:Noisy neighbours! The guests next door had the tv on all night, maybe the walls are a wee bit thin. The residents' lounge could have been brighter.
Review 76:The room (no.8) has a great view across Loch Linnhe. Excellent breakfast - the smoked haddock was terrific. The location, opposite the ferry terminal. The staff (owners?) were very friendly.
Review 77:Not the hotels fault and not the only route to and from the hotel but the Ferry was £8 per journey. Also felt the the food was overpriced but since your a captive audience.
Review 78:I liked the location of the hotel and the cleanliness and the character of the place and the views.
Review 79:Duvets were small for the beds.
Review 80:Excellent views, friendly staff, clean rooms and good value. Great cooked breakfast, freshly cooked. Warm, friendly atmosphere.
Review 81:The location and atmosphere of the Inn was fantastic and was easily matched by the view from the windows. We loved everything about the place and would easily recommend it to others.
Review 82:The Inn felt like it was in a remote setting but it was only a 3 minute ferry trip and a ten minute drive into Fort William. The views were fantastic and the owner and staff couldn't be more open and helpful.
Review 83:That the hotel was closed between 11am and 4 PM. I realise that it was off season but access should be allowed. Perhaps there was a bell or if I had asked arrangements could have been made. i did not ask.
Review 84:I liked the location. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was warm and comfortable. The residents lounge was impressive and I could imagine friends or family travelling together spending time relaxing there. The service was good and the food was excellent, well presented and tasty.
Review 85:Ferry runs until 9pm, and starts early. Our family room overlooked the ferry ramp, so please request a room away from the ferry ramp if this is likely to bother you. But don't let this put you off staying here.
Review 86:Lovely views of the loch, interesting building, good food served in the bar. Novelty for kids who enjoyed getting ferry to the inn.
Review 87:Bed was too soft - personal thing preference - but it was way soft. Breakfast wasn't great - over cooked bacon (could cut it) and sausages were a bit hard - which was surprising as dinner the previous night was fab
Review 88:The staff were fab - couldn't do enough for you, especially the owner, Luke.
Review 89:Poor reception area. Booked a double room, ended up in a family room Poor evening meal, unfortunately a large funeral meant the bar was full of loud drunk locals, eat our meal in the dinning area to get some peace and quiet.
Review 90:Comfortable bed Good breakfast
Review 91:Requested early check-in got no response, arrived to find hotel closed with sign on door saying" closed until 3 pm", an e-mail to advise us of this may have been helpfull. Single glazed windows running with condensation, only stayed open using a piece of wood(supplied).
Review 92:Location, Food.
Review 93:The residents lounge is comfortable with a lot of chesterfield typesofas and chairs. When we were in there the lighting was very subduedso maybe not bright enough if you wanted to read. Our room 7 was thesmallest room and the bathroom is very small so if you like or need abit of space that may be problematic. The toilet is right next to theheated towel rail which is very hot, you have to be careful not toburn your legs. The bed although comfortable was very squeaky, withevery turn causing quite a noise from the bed. People have complainedon other review sites of the noise from the ferry but really its notthat bad. I noticed dirty table cloths in dining room which shouldhave been changed.
Review 94:We had stayed before and were always going to return and will again. Thelocation is stunning by the shore of Loch Linnhie. Stunning drivethrough Glen Coe always a bonus. The ferry over is very regular, with nomore than a 20 minute wait. It runs every 15 minutes either side andtakes 3 minutes to cross. Its good value at £7.90 per trip for both carand passengers. Foot passengers are free so if you don't need yourcar that's a bonus. All the rooms have a loch view, we were in room7. The facilities are basic but clean and comfortable. Staff arefriendly and very accommodating. The food is good, very tasty and hot.Breakfast was lovely and well cooked with a good range of options fromfull cooked to scrambled egg and kippers. Ferry noise not that bad andnot a problem. No problem with Wifi in the room there's a goodstrong signal. Your table for breakfast is allocated to you with yourroom number displayed on the table, we had the same table both mornings.I would thoroughly recommend staying here. Its good for the soul withthe stunning views.
Review 95:the ferry is free for foot passengers, so leave the car behind to avoid charges.
Review 96:location with a loch view, clean room, WiFi ok, evening meal, various options available and adequate breakfast.
Review 97:Nothing - really enjoyed my stay there.
Review 98:I loved the location at the edge of the loch and the wonderful drive across to the ferry at Lochaline. Very informal, staff kind and helpful and comfortable rooms. Good breakfasts and choice of meals for the evening. Would go back again.
Review 99:The ferry!!! It was a rip-off, especially not giving a reduced return fare.Monopoly and money are greedy masters.
Review 100:Everything! The staff, the food the weather, the location---all made for a wonderful stay.
Review 101:Aside from the very helpful staff, great food, a great Guiness the stunning views/light and quirky ferry, they've a lighthouse very nearby and a wonderful, wrecked trawler along the shoreline, the best thing though, was not realising where I was when, the following morning my eyes slowly revealed to me what was to become the light through the crack in the curtains!
Review 102:nothing comes to mind...
Review 103:This hotel was a lovely surprise. Staff were welcoming, the room was cosy and very comfortable with views over the beautiful bay and the ferry stop. Food at the bar was wonderful hearty cuisine. Also in a great location surrounded by the most stunning parts of Scotland!
Review 104:My second time staying in this great little hotel and I'll most likely stay again when passing this way. Nice friendly staff, great food and a great location. Oh and fantastic value for money :-)
Review 105:Everything was good.
Review 106:Stunning views across the loch, peace and tranquility. We sat out and enjoyed a pint whilst trying to take in the beautiful scenery - felt like I was in heaven! Rooms were clean and smart and ours looked out over the loch, great to wake up to. Bar food or restaurant available , good range of drinks, friendly staff. I'll definitely be back.
Review 107:Throughout the evening and at breakfast there was constant music of an inane 'pop' variety. If it had been purely instrumental it would have been more in the background but singing tracks make conversation and relaxing very difficult. The dining room and bars were rather dreary in decor. The dining room menu was limited but the food was good.
Review 108:The welcome and service by all staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was attractive in its decor and both it and the beds were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast choice was wide and well presented.
Review 109:Loved everything!
Review 110:Took the car ferry across the short stretch of loch (3 mins!) and there was the Inn.Very friendly family run inn/pub restaurant with lovely rooms and fabulous views up the loch towards Fort William. The ferry ramp is right outside the front door! Good and plentiful food freshly cooked with a wide variety or dishes to choose from.
Review 111:Bad wifi. Building could use some updating.
Review 112:Very spacious rooms. Right on the water so the views are good. Was fun taking the ferry across the water to get there.
Review 113:Beds and floors creaked. Not just our room as we herd similar noises from other rooms which disturbed our sleep. Our room was on ground floor which probably wasn't best location for a good nights sleep. Would also prefer softer mattress
Review 114:In our room, the shower was not functionning well. Wi-Fi is free but not working very well.
Review 115:Rooms are large and clean although a bit outdated. The staff is friendly. The restaurant is very good and the price are fair. The kids really enjoyed taking the ferry to cross the loch and reach the hotel.
Review 116:Room was small & decor basic with picture squint on wall, pull catch on window frame was hanging off and wooden light switch fell off cord first time I used it. Interior needed brightening up and food was average.
Review 117:We liked the character of the place and our room looked out to the ferry. There was a "Local Hero" film style to it. Breakfast was fairly basic but I don't think we would go full board. Best bit was right after breakfast you drive 50 yards & you're on the ferry
Review 118:If you are looking for a place with good service, nice people and excellent food then Ardgour is the place for you. It is also conveniently placed if you want to visit Inverewe Garden.
Review 119:The inn is directly across the street from the (small) ferry, so you get a bit of the activity of this as part of the inns experience. For us it wasn't a problem but it might be an issue for others.
Review 120:The staff were great, the food was great, the prices were reasonable. I was worried about using the ferry to reach the hotel but it turned out to be super easy and without the need to make any advance bookings. I also liked that the inn had outdoor tables to enjoy a drink on a sunny evening.
Review 121:The kids would have liked better wi-fi.
Review 122:The views were amazing, the staff friendly and helpful, the food was comforting and delicious also the rooms were clean and tidy.
Review 123:Nothing really.
Review 124:Breathtaking location. Gorgeous food, friendly people, peaceful. Fun to watch the short ferry to other side of Loch which finished at 9pm and began again about 7.30am. A perfect location after a rather stressful afternoon. We just gazed at the loch after our supper, sitting outside until nearly 10pm - but there again we did take our "skin so soft" just in case any midges joined us!!
Review 125:Cannot think of anything we did not like
Review 126:Friendly, helpful and informative staff. Totally relaxing atmosphere Perfect location Excellent facilities
Review 127:One bar meal was not up to standard.
Review 128:Warm rooms , dog friendly, live music, helpful staff.
Review 129:Very peacefull lovely views from my bedroom window magic .
Review 130:The ferry and the breakfast
The Fine Print
Please note that the quickest way to get to the inn is via a 3-minute ride on the Corran Car Ferry.
