Reviews for Knoll Country House

Review 1:My wife and I stayed at The Retreat and were blown away by it. Everything you could ask for to relax and enjoy the winter days and nights. The staff are very friendly and helpful; the lounge is cosy with lots of candles and the wood burner creates a really homely feel. The jacuzzi is something else - how better to relax after a day out walking. We had to cut our trip a little shorter than we expected due to issues at home but we will most definitely be back.

Review 2:No iron Few products to use Fresh coffee in room would have been nice considering rate of room

Review 3:Breakfast was lovely Staff were down to earth and welcoming Very nice room (room 4)

Review 4:The retreat was spotless, the decor was beautiful, a real attention to detail was paid. It was such a relaxing home for the wk end. The hot tub was an added extra which was greatly enjoyed. The owner was friendly and helpful. A week end and would highly recommend for a couple seeking a romantic wk end.

Review 5:The staff couldn't have been more friendly, straight forward or helpful and the food was perfect. The location is also possibly the best in the lake district as it's close to Windermere but out of the way enough to be peaceful - away from the masses!

Review 6:Close to the lake on the map, but no real easy access by foot. Restaurant was closed for Bank Holiday weekend. Room facing road somewhat noisy with traffic and other rooms showering.

Review 7:Really cosy living room. Rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. Choice of breakfast is amazing, good access to the park and close to main sites.

Review 8:Great location, lovely guest house with pretty gardens. Really friendly staff, fantastic choice for breakfast and all set right in the heart of beautiful and picturesque Lakeside.

Review 9:No evening meal available Sundays and Mondays so you need to use car or taxi to travell to obtain a meal Only walking alternative is to very expensive Lakeside Hotel. We drove to Hawkshead which takes about 20 minutes, not withstanding we Would use this hotel again

Review 10:Comfy room and bed and very good Breakfast and friendly staff and made to feel very welcome

Review 17:Nothing really - the water temperature in the shower takes a while to stabilise - just like ours at home really

Review 18:The house, the food and most of all the lovely owners/staff. A return trip is certainly in our minds and we booked this first one at the last minute through booking.com on the strength of a fabulous high score from previous guests.

Review 25:Arrived at the Knoll for a four night stay to be met with a warm welcome by Jen, who showed us to our room. This was spacious and very clean, plenty of storage space for clothes etc. We found the breakfasts plentiful (full english meant very full. Evening meals are 5* michelin quality. (Excellent). Five minute stroll to Lakeside harbour for boat to Bowness / Ambleside or Steam train to Haverthwaite.

Review 26:The heating was turned off in the evening leaving the room quite cold. This was despite the fact that we had complained about the cold and they had turned the heating on only to turn it off agin after we left for dinner. To far away from other places to eat

Review 30:A quiet, relaxing location. Very friendly and welcoming staff Plenty of choice at breakfast and the cooked breakfast was very tasty. The bedrooms were homely and well presented. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room re filled every day. A very informative welcome pack in the room with all the attractions in the area. Also a very helpful guide with directions to the local restaurants nearby. Can definitely recommend The Masons Arms pub lovely food and a wonderful view a 10 minute drive away.

A spacious room and super kingsize bed mad it the perfect stay. Something we consider to return to again for a weekend break. Did I mention the super friendly people who run the house?!?!

Review 80:No mobile reception - not their fault but it would have been helpful to know in advance; parking is a little difficult if the house is full

Review 81:Welcoming, warm, right level of attentiveness, beautiful breakfast, room spotless, most accommodating. I didn't 't think to ask for a first floor room and they changed the room from a second floor one immediately.

Review 82:Zip.

Review 83:Can't thank my hosts enough. What an extraordinary place. Soul food, comfort, peace and elegance. Because of my work schedule, my hosts (bless them) have put themselves out for my needs. You cannot beat a candle lit welcome to a unique place. :-)

Review 84:We were only there 3 nights :-(

Review 85:Owner is also responsible for the truly delicious food - breakfast, dinner all 5*. Nothing too much trouble, all staff like friends, not employees - helpful in a very pleasant and discrete manner. Room spacious and well furnished with 1st class en suite.

Review 86:Parking and exit from the hotel needed care, otherwise no problem.

Review 87:Good reception and consideration. Dinner to a high standard, Room was absolutely fine, and the staff considerate and charming.

Review 88:Leaving!

Review 89:Everything! From the hearty, well thought out breakfasts, to the warmth of the open fire lit each evening in the guest siting room with its relaxed ambience and the comforts of the rooms, everything was perfect. Oh, and I didn't mention the superb meal offered most evenings.

Review 90:Only having three days there!

Review 91:Excellent hosts, my wife and I were made very welcome, the food was excellent too with good choice at breakfast and the evening meal was award winning standard, but served in a relaxed and friendly manner. We don't often revisit, but we hope to stay at the Knoll again in the spring.

Review 92:The exit from the guesthouse is on a corner. There is a mirror on the opposite side of the road pointing to the left, but there needs to be one pointing to the right also.

Review 93:the welcome, asked for my first name and was addressed by this all stay. Very clean. Good food - had candlelit dinner. Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 94:The only thing I would say is that they don't do evening meals on Sundays and Mondays and because it was quite remote, we had to travel quite away to get an evening meal (not that this was a real problem).

Review 95:We chose The Knoll to stay at for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was so peaceful, relaxing and the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Review 96:challenging driving car off driveway first time. use the mirror and absolutely fine!

Review 97:wonderful food. extreemely friendly staff. great decor. comfy bed. luxury bedroom. free use of nearby hotel spa. discount on windermere cruiser

Review 98:The fact the heating was on a timer. When we go away, we felt weshouldn't have to ring for it to be switched on. We found it chillyat times in the room. But after asking for it to be put on twice, wedidn't bother asking a third time. This was the only thing wedidn't like.

Review 99:Everything was brilliant. Staff and service was lovely. Lovely room, andservice to what we wanted.

Review 100:Unfortunately the Google Map seems to be wrong for this hotel as webooked it to be next to friends at the Newby Bridge Hotel but it is agood 1.5 miles away. Local taxi can be booked in advance as walking indark was not for the faint hearted.

Review 101:Stayed two nights last weekend and had a lovely time. Hotel veryclean, warm and friendly. Breakfast was great and plenty of choice.Unfortunately we did not dine in the evening as we were meetingfriends at another hotel. Would stay at this hotel again as we couldnot fault it in any way. Worth a visit for a nice peaceful break.Thank you for a lovely two night break we really enjoyed our stay atthe Knoll - 10 out of 10

Review 102:Parking was tight and the exit was onto a quiet road but a difficult corner - no fault of the owners though.

Review 103:Very comfortable with good food. Nice big comfortable bed and very nice en suite. Nice comfortable lounge and log fire, with a good bar and reasonably priced wine list.

Review 104:The small double bed in room 6. Longlife milk in rooms. It would have been nicer to have been offered a small jug of fresh milk if you required it.

Review 105:The breakfast was excellent, rooms were very clean, towels luxurious, dressing gowns a nice touch. The owners were welcoming and friendly.

Review 106:would have liked to have had dinner at Knoll on arrival however dinner was not being served Sunday or Monday, consequently we did not dine at the Knoll which was unfortunate as I am sure the meals were as good if not better than the breakfast.

Review 107:warm friendly atmosphere. good breakfast

Review 108:To be brutally honest for a 5 star guest house we did expect a littlemore. There were just a few gripes we had which are only little nigglesbut we would expect more for a five star, namely:-1. Damp & peeling wallpaper in the bedroom 2. Very badly cracked bathroom floor tile (which was quite dangerous) 3. Tablecloth at breakfast was stained 4. Cracked salt shaker

Review 109:It is a beautiful Country House set in lovely surroundings. The staffwere very friendly. The room was exceptionally clean.

Review 110:Being very picky, some bits of the room (lamps) could have been dusted more meticulously.

Review 111:Warm, friendly welcome and an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Lovely, large and bright room with super en-suite. Delicious breakfasts with a wide choice and superb local produce. My gluten intolerance was provided for without trouble.

Review 112:things I liked about the Knoll Country House. pretty much everything. The only complaint I have is that I had to leave. My partner and I had a really good time and will definately be going back. It is peaceful and quiet and a place to kick your shoes off and relax. The food was so tasty and great value. The staff are a real asset and did verything to make you feel welcome and that nothing was too much trouble

Review 113:The driveway entry was uneven and steep causing the bottom of our car toscrape on it. Note our car is a standard estate, not a sport model. Please note the location shown at Newby Bridge is incorrect and a fault with Google maps. In fact there are two locations shown and the correct one is about 1 mile north of Newby Bridge.

Review 114:Small and very friendly with attention to detail. Food was excellent.Offerred a very wide selection at breakfast and catered very well forour dietary needs. Our evening meal was also splendid. A tv lounge wasavailable and drinks could be ordered. Our room was tastefullyfurnished.

Review 115:There was nothing to dislike. I felt a bit sad that the dinner was notpromoted as much as it should because, from the standard of food atbreakfast there was clearly a very high standard. I have spoken todenise personally and suggested ways in which she could encourage priorcontact with guests to invite them to dine at the Knoll country houseand she is very keen to take up the observations. A lively place and onewe will retuned to stay again.

Review 116:Beautiful standard of accommodation. Hotel staff very careing. No fussand very accommodating owner. Would recommmend to anyone.

Review 117:No complaints at all. A really lovely house.

Review 118:immediately we were made very welcome. Beautiful location, also very quiet and peaceful. Staff very helpful with a lost wallet - this was found after our departure then posted on to us intact.
