Reviews for Best Western Queens Hotel
Review 1:We had breakfast on our first morning and it was obvious breakfast was not up to the usual standard we have always enjoyed our breakfast here but the kitchen being changed had caused a lowering of the standard meal was not freshly cooked
Review 2:We called reception for a bucket of ice to be brought to the room if possible and we were bluntly met with 'that will be a £3.50 charge'. I have never experienced this before in any hotel I have ever stayed in, poor customer service.
Review 3:Good location.
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:I be stayed a few times for business and staff always very welcome I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Dundee Very central and love the ambience
Review 6:Quite disappointed with the room very small and the bed creaked when we moved must say thought the room was very clean
Review 7:The staff at breakfast were very attentive even though the breakfast room was busy
Review 8:We only had a shower in the room and would have preferred a bath.
Review 9:A very clean, well managed hotel with large rooms and lots of character. Our room was on the third floor and had dual views both across towards the Tay and across the city.
Review 10:The fact that there is no restaurant The lift looked dangerous The carpets have been there for decades There is no nice reception are
Review 11:The location is excellent for the centre of the city Transport is nearby Good for the theatre and cinema
Review 12:First room location, dark dingy and stank of stale smoke and air freshener. Doors sticky therefore noisy being shut. Frequent banging of doors. Very noisy party in adjacent area. Loud music. Once moved 100% better.
Review 13:The staff very pleasant. Moved to a second room with a lovely view over the Tay bridge. Very central for shops, theatre eateries. On site food basic but good.
Review 14:There was a small amount of confusion during registration but only a very minor inconvenience which was soon resolved.
Review 15:The staff were all excellent as were the facilities offered. The room was very comfortable and the cleanliness was good.
Review 16:Water was leaking all over the bathroom floor, went to reception to tell them about it and was told no one was on site to fix it and could i fix it myself? when i said i was not a plumber they gave me a bale of towels to put on the floor to soak up the water, no discount was offered when i managed to fix the fault and had not even been reported by the member of staff that i first reported it to, very poor service.
Review 17:Car park
Review 18:Lovely room on 4th floor with great views looking towards the town centre. Very clean. Nice hospitality tray, alarm clock, hairdryer, ironing board & iron.
Review 19:The hotel is very run down both the doors to the hotel from the car park and to the bar have cracked windows, there have been pictures taken off the walls and screws let in the walls the lift has had something removed ie picture and it hasn't been repainted, overall very dated.
Review 20:The room was clean and breakfast was lovely
Review 21:I have stayed at the queens hotel twice and cannot fault it. The staff are pleasant, the rooms are lovely. All great value for money. I have also been to Christmas party nights and Tribute act nights and have always had a great time. I would not hesitate to book a room at the queens hotel in future
Review 22:The lift to the rooms is extremely tatty looking and gives a bad first impression. For a couple of hundred pounds it could be upgraded.
Review 23:Friendly efficient staff, good breakfast.
Review 24:Bar and food prices were poor value for money. Particularly, wineprices. It was much cheaper to go to the restaurants opposite the hotel. In addition, there were 'down and outs' loitering in the hotelentrance late at night causing quite a lot of noise.
Review 25:The room was comfortable and the location was fairly good.
Review 26:Plastic cup down side of bedside locker also sweet paper, thought grey net curtains were gone off white curtains when I went into room at first
Review 27:Good location
Review 28:I requested accommodation suitable for disabled, the room we were given was so far from the lift that my friend was exhausted by the time we reached our room. There was no resturaunt it was being refurbished, I think we should have been informed about the refurbishment we would not have chosen this hotel. I would not recommend this hotel.
Review 29:Badly in need of updating and decorating. Very noisy as a wedding on that night. Bed very uncomfortable and pillows a bit like pancakes. Will not be staying there again!
Review 30:Central
Review 31:Nothing, really.
Review 32:Beautiful old building with elegant central staircase. Quaint features - how well I remember that lift from 30+ years ago! Helpful, friendly Dundonian staff, refreshingly free of horrible corporate hotel speak. Particularly good shower. Very nice breakfast. Quiet room looking out over the Tay, with the faint sound of trains in the distance. Great!
Review 33:Filthy dust so bad I could draw a picture in it! Staff at breakfast was awful , had to argue to order something that was on their menu ! !! Room very depressing looking at iron board and iron not in a cupboard. God it was awful !!!
Review 34:Can't say we liked anything apart from the hotel is in a great location, but we will not be returning..
Review 35:No lavatory brush For a business traveller, a mini tube of toothpaste is a nice touch, esp as one can't easily take toothpaste in hand luggage on a plane.
Review 36:Location; value for money; staff; breakfast.
Review 37:Felt that the bed was a little hard so didn't sleep great and some of the décor could do with updating but all in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay
Review 38:Location was great and hotel was really nice/ staff friendly / breakfast lovely etc
Review 39:Would perhaps benefit from new mattresses in our twin bedded room.
Review 40:Central location and car parking available. Ease of booking in and receiving room key card.
Review 41:decor a bit dated but this really does not matter given the price - this hotel is absolutely brilliant value for money
Review 42:great hotel - lovely building and staff very friendly
Review 43:Lots of trouble to have Wifi access. If you are in a business trip and need to work afterhours with Wifi access, this can be a serious problem.
Review 44:The location is great.
Review 45:Room was a little shabby. Toiletries were very basic in large bottles on the wall. No discernible difference apart from the label between hand wash and shampoo/body gel. Kettle overboiled when only half full. I reported this to staff. Wifi ok for a while but then was too slow even to answer emails.
Review 46:Staff were excellent. Friendly and helpful.
Review 47:First room allocated had no heating. Wifi in second room non-existent which made business impossible therefore would not stay here again because of that.
Review 48:Management responded to complaint about first room very efficiently. Proximity to centre of Dundee was a bonus and the breakfast food was good quality.
Review 49:What a horrible place. Huge but really cold and rather dirty room. I am not sure when it was renovated, maybe just before Churchill's stay? Really overpriced! If it is Best Western I do not want to know what Worst Western or even Regular Western is.
Review 50:Location, location, location. But still there are some better places to stay around.
Review 51:Only downside was our room at front of Hotel and traffic noise also people coming out of pubs in the early hours was disturbing. Double glazing would be beneficial at this hotel.
Review 52:Staff very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Even though refurbishment of dining room was on going and a reduced menu in place Service was efficient and food was excellent at dinner and breakfast. Room was clean cosy and comfortable with everything needed for a very pleasant stay in place.
Review 53:Room was not as clean as it could be. The net curtains could do with a good wash. The hotel overall is very tired and in need of upgrading though I can't blame the staff for that. Staff I felt would have gone out of their way to be more helpful, if there had been more staff. The overwhelming feeling I got during my time there was that they were short staffed but I would have liked to have been given wifi code as I arrived and not had to seek it afterwards. I would have liked to have been informed of the daily changes to car park code, something I knew nothing about the first time I tried to leave the car park and couldn't get out. I would have preferred the staff not to openly discuss issues relating to the running of the hotel in clear earshot of myself and other breakfast guests. Creaking floorboards in room made me very uncomfortable to walk about after a certain time of night for fear of disturbing others below. Visible screw sticking out of the main stair carpet as a means, presumably, to stop the worn carpet slipping. Looks very shoddy.
Review 54:The hotels proximity to the town centre, university and DCA is brilliant. Also an onsite car park was a huge plus for a city centre hotel. Room service girl was particularly helpful and one of the members of the breakfast staff went out of his way to offer a warm welcome.
Review 55:The fact that we didn't know that the restaurant was going to be closed when we were there and that there was a limited selection of food on offer for evening meals, (it was also the same as we were offered at lunch). Some of the female staff could have been a bit friendlier, how hard is it to smile and project a friendly image? All other staff were excellent.
Review 56:The room with a view was more than we could have asked for. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice and the hot selection was served to order.
Review 57:We left windows open to keep cool, but cars and partying were rather loud.
Review 58:Location is great. Hotel has a nice restaurant and breakfast. Lots of pubs and shopping nearby.
Review 59:Although the overall stay was good. If you are a light sleeper than I wouldn't recommend this hotel, as they only have signal glazed windows, so you can hear everything outside.
Review 60:Clean hotel in a very good location, only 2 min walk to shops n bars
Review 61:Being placed in a basement room next to a loud ceilidh scheduled to play till 1 am. Asked for a move of room which we got. Rooms 102-104 should be for function patrons only.
Review 62:The staff were churlish, the windows were so dirty that I could barely see the street below, the carpets likewise were dirty and almost threadbare. Frankly I cannot understand why a group like the Best Western would associate themselves with such a poor hotel. This hotel is not at a three standard and should not be listed as such.
Review 63:The weather!
Review 64:For a midweek single night stay in September 2015, £79 for a double room is very reasonable. The room was very spacious with a lounge area and desk. Breakfast was very good. Most important of all was that all staff were always friendly and very helpful.
Review 65:Poor internet signal. The wifi barely reaches the third floor and it takes forever to load a page. Unable to work using this slow internet and had to move to reception area for some decent speed, which was temperamental. If you are here for leisure it is probably fine, but makes a work trip very inconvenient.
Review 66:Good value for money and comfortable room. Great location and helpful staff.
Review 67:Would have preferred a self service buffet, rather than waiting in a queue
Review 68:At an exhibition in dare, great value and service for money, will be using again next year!!
Review 69:Excellent free parking at rear of hotel with access via back door. Bedroom was large with high ceilings and beds were clean although carpets, etc were dated.
Review 70:I don't like shower curtains. I prefer a screen which is more hygienic and doesn't stick to you.
Review 71:Central location and free parking. Large, well appointed bathroom.
Review 72:It wasn't bad, but the hotel decor and room bedding is very dated and needs upgrading. (Maybe just our room, our son's corner room seemed nicer). It was an ok stay and a place to sleep. I just expected more.
Review 73:The best Scottish breakfast of our trip!
Review 74:N/A
Review 75:Comfy bed room fone pleasant staff unfortunatley i did not manage to go for breakfast but looked yummy. No noice during the night slept all night
Review 76:Being a wheelchair user it was almost impossible to get to breakfast due to no disabled access to the restaurant or bar area.
Review 77:Fabulous location. Superb quality and very friendly staff.
Review 78:Bed could be replaced as had the same room over past 2 years and mattress lumpy.
Review 79:Location, location Breakfast is wonderful and staff are brilliant and very helpful
Review 80:Unfortunately our room was in the basement right next to the car park entrance so it could be a little noisy also the Smokers from the hotel and bar congregated at the top of this ramp
Review 81:The overall stay was good and the location of the hotel is excellent for the town centre
Review 82:The room allocated on arrival was found to be unsuitable for personal reasons, but just a mention to the desk staff was enough for an immediate change to a perfect one. This staff attitude toward customer satisfaction continued until the end of my 2 night stay, and resulted in me having one of the most enjoyable weekend visits to Dundee ... EVER.
Review 83:Arrived early evening, found toilet was blocked, probably by previous guest misuse, too later to call plumber, was upgraded to better room immediately. No compliant there. Breakfast v/good, staff friendly.
Review 84:bit exoensive for B n B for Dundee....Best Western I was expecting a higher standard than the usual tired hotel that it actually is
Review 85:location....nice room....bit basic but fine. Bit old fashioned ...needs a bit of an upgrade internally.
Review 86:The room was uncomfortably warm, and the only means of cooling it was to open the windows at the cost of exposure to loud noise from outside e.g. seagulls, traffic, workmen etc.
Review 87:Location and staff
Review 88:Great that the sash window was able to be opened fully with no safety catch to restrict, but some could see this as a disadvantage. Aided a lovely breeze overnight.
Review 89:Friendly welcoming staff and comfortable clean accommodation. Looked like recently redecorated and refurbished.
Review 90:The Staff were friendly and helpful, providing good information on what we could see on our visit to the city of Dundee as well as providing good service.
Review 91:No negatives
Review 92:Room was luxurious overlooking Tay River. Bed-huge and really comfortable. Bathroom- spacious, clean, light and bright. Staff-professional & cheerful
Review 93:Needs refit. Tremendous potential and Goldmine for Hotel chain if invested in it.
Review 94:Location. Paid £60 for night which is the maximum I would pay for this hotel.
Review 95:First room had a hole in a window (where I could stick all my fingers through) and smelled a lot from desinfection. We were moved to other one, which was quite okay. Staff was trying to do their best, but hotel need serious refreshment. Starting from dishes, rooms, hallways - everything is stuck in deep 90s.
Review 96:Free parking right behind the hotel is pleasant, location is good.
Review 97:"Double" bed was two singles pushed together on a sloping (!) floor, so we and the sheets gradually gravitated sideways overnight. Toilet stopped working (push-button flush mechanism broke) and took most of the day to be fixed.
Review 98:Convenient city center location and good, complimentary barrier-access parking.
Review 99:Night staff were not particularly happy to open the door after 12 and serve in the bar. Saw him being rather rude to another resident staying at the hotel when they arrived later.
Review 100:Central to Dundee, good bar and restaurant on site.
Review 101:noisy guests in corridor late at night single glazed windows allows traffic noise into room dirty windows and net curtains
Review 102:good location free car parking good shower good breakfast
Review 103:No mention of free wi fi on checking in. Given our one night stay not too concerned to find out details
Review 104:Location in city centre with convenient free parking. excellent breakfast cooked on order not buffet style
Review 105:No bar or restaurant open because it was a Sunday, we were not informed that the restaurant would be closed before we booked this run down hotel
Review 106:Not much to like about this tired and shabby hotel!
Review 107:Woken at 5:15am with the telephone ringing but the staff explained that this was due to a fault...
Review 108:I have stayed at the Queens a number of times and I like the locality of the hotel, the staff are always very friendly and helpful. The choice of breakfast menu is suitable for most tastes. The rooms are always clean and the beds comfortable with tea and coffee provided, could maybe benefit from a fridge.
Review 109:Had to wash own cups one day. Beer out of tap very flat so did not use bar at all after first pint.
Review 110:Easy to get to and well within walking distance to city centre. Breakfast very good and piping hot Staff very helpful.
Review 111:The front door was locked when returning from our night out. We rang the porter bell several times and it took forty minutes of ringing the bell and calling ther hotel from our mobile to gain entrance. The porter on appearance looks dishevelled and was quite rude. It put a damper on the stay
Review 112:great central location. beautiful building and nice staff in most cases
Review 113:It was really really warm in the hotel and the rooms didn't have airconditioning. We had to have the window open which led to a sleeplessnight as our room was at the front of the hotel and the street below wasvery noisy.
Review 114:Really great friendly staff. We left the do not disturb sign on our doorand the staff left us clean towels and tea bags outside our door! Sooooothoughtful!
Review 115:Creaky floor. Phone alarm went off at 5am. i thought i was getting breakfast as part of the reservation but not.
Review 116:Lovely traditional hotel, situated perfectly in town, nice helpful staff.
Review 117:Wifi not very good as we could not connect reliably. Discounted meals in nosey parkers would be nice for hotel guests to encore guest to eat there and not else where.
Review 118:Good location friendly staff and with own car park.
Review 119:A bit tired, in need of refurbishment, windows not double glazed, certain number of noise issues, street noise also from arts dept next door which plays loud music.
Review 120:Breakfast. Location. @ 5 mins from station.
Review 121:Shabby dusty rooms. The walls are paper thin and my room was right next to a fire exit door that slams very loudly every time someone walks through. Woken up at 7am by constant slamming of doors every few seconds. When this slowed down at 8.30am- cleaner had to knock on every single room to check for housekeeping, waking EVEYRBODY up. Very poor service!
Review 122:location
Review 123:Double room was small but as I was on my own this didn't matter.
Review 124:Clean, pleasant staff, good breakfast, free parking. This hotel was within walking distance of central Dundee and many attractions. The reception staff were very helpful.
Review 125:Had to pay extra for breakfast. A very noisy group came in at around three am and woke us up.
Review 126:Good food and comfort, Very friendly staff. Free parking.
Review 127:The only criticism is sharing the lift with the kitchen does give the corridor some chippy smells. It's an old building though so you have to expect some compromise and the rooms didn't smell at all.
Review 128:. 5, v
Review 129:Mattress was not great. Wifi was dreadfully slow. Musty smell in bathroom from shower curtains or mat (couldn't tell which).
Review 130:Staff, bathtub, excellent water pressure, lots of hot water. Proper sized desk that you could do work at if necessary.
Review 131:Very small room, and the bed was abysmal. Extremely uncomfortable. Wifi was hit and miss. They need a router on each floor probably.
Review 132:Stones throw to city centre and shopping.
Review 133:At times some rooms were a little chilly but we found we could turn the radiators on or up, so not a problem. Some inevitable street noise in evenings - didn't bother me.
Review 134:The staff that we met were all polite, attentive & helpful. The hotel has seen better days but this does not detract from it being a pleasant place to stay.
Review 135:Bit noisy in late evening with wedding and also function going on. To be honest this didn't really bother us as we know popular place for weddings/functions which they do well.
Review 136:A place where you can relax, good food and friendly staff
Review 137:It was not a bad experience but I felt it all looked a bit tired like the lift needed a lick of paint and the basement, which is an entrance, also needed a little TLC. It does not need anything major to enhance the impression on arrival, I would however strongly recommend you to my friends
Review 138:could not fault anyone or anything,
Review 139:Hotel was lovely Room was excellent staff were superb owner Gordon was hands on approach and very friendly and helpful. Likewise Julie and Leah at reception. Breakfast managers both by the name of Sean also very pleasant and helpful All staff were excellent.
The Fine Print
