Reviews for The Wynnstay Arms Hotel by Marston's Inns
Review 1:The place is a bit dated would be great for somewhere to just crash for one night, but not really for you if you have young kids. Its very noisey
Review 2:For the price you get what you pay for. Breakfast included too which was lovely. And the staff in the morning were lovely.
Review 3:Chef was sent home during the evening without prior consultation to those present, it would have been better if the clientele had been approached first
Review 4:Situated in a central location, so easy walking distances to most places
Review 5:Room very shoddy and worn, dirty bath and stains on ceiling, room cold. in bad need of a complete revamp. Pub quite nice but seems to lack atmosphere
Review 6:The staff were really helpful, breakfast good
Review 7:Heating in room went off too early on first morning (admittedly it was Christmas Day). Some cracked tiles in bathroom. Top of hot tap was not securely fixed (not a major problem!). No phone in room.
Review 8:Comfortable, spacious room. Helpful staff. Breakfast fine.
Review 9:Room was so grim we didn't stay. The bed was uncomfortable with a sheet laid over the unprotected mattress, with no attempt made to tuck it in. Pillows were wafer thin and the bathroom was depressing with black mold all over the seals. I was looking for somewhere simple but clean to stay and thought that being part of Marstons this would be a safe bet, how wrong can you be?
Review 10:Staff understanding and apologetic.
Review 11:In the barthroom the paint was falling of the wall. The Bathroom was poorly decorated including the bedroom.plus the time that we had to check out was limited.
Review 12:no shower in the room
Review 13:characterful and very large, well appointed room. Friendly and helpful staff. They let me keep my bike in a secure outhouse. There is a terrible review on booking.com. It's not ilke that at all. It's fine. I'd stay here again.
Review 14:No staff available for checking in. No staff available for checking out, we had to find them via bar staff ringing around. Rooms are very basic, bet sheets only just fit the matress
Review 15:Staff friendly, location great, Dad and I missed breakfast and the staff asked had we had breakfast we said no we missed the time as we got in late the night before, then they made us breakfast at 10.45am. Great service
Review 16:Very noisy due to Xmas function on the second floor where our room was above. Room was clean but tired. Missing curtain tie back, bath tiles around the bottom of the bath loose. Shower difficult to regulate. Breakfast ok.
Review 17:Location to the town centre
Review 18:Rooms could do with a face-lift but everything you needed was available.
Review 19:Great staff, all very friendly and eager to help, especially Jean in reception. Location really good - right in the middle of the town.
Review 20:Room was scruffy at best. Windows didn't close properly so wind blew curtains all night and sound of local clock tower chiming every 15mins keeps you awake.. No toiletries. Dirty bathroom.
Review 21:Nothing
Review 22:When we arrived to book- in there was nobody in reception.Resulting in me having to enter an extremely busy bar and wait for one of the bar staff to become free to message another staff member, to actually book us in !! Besides this we really wanted to eat at the hotel but food was unavailable. Which after a 4.5hr drive, having to find an alternative place to eat was just what we didn't want!
Review 23:The bar area was nicely decorated and the breakfast being included made the overall price very competitive.
Review 24:Barman was miserable. Food was awful. Cleaners were loud and kept slamming doors. Double bed was just 2 singles pushed together. Window was really noisey.
Review 25:The receptionist was nice. The restraunt layout was lovely.
Review 26:Very dated, I used to stocktake for laundry company 22 years ago and decor has not changed, drastically in need of updating
Review 27:Staff were ok, breakfast was good
Review 28:Part of a pub chain so front of hotel is a pub open to public which was very busy and noisy. Some noise at night as hotel is situated right next to bars which stay open till very late.
Review 29:Excellent location right in middle of town, with free parking. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 30:Run out of bacon at breakfast Run out of fish at dinner Still smells of stale cigarette smoke? Bathroom needed a clean-dust & hair Tough to find in the dark
Review 31:Location excellent Receptionist guided us in by phone? Staff friendly and helpful
Review 32:Sadly, the hotel, including the room we occupied, was in need of an upgrade. Everything was dated and not as clean as it could have been.
Review 33:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There was adequate parking. The hotel was adjacent to local amenities and transport links.
Review 34:The room was small and a little run down and in need of updating. Staff never asked at anytime during our visit if everything was ok. No hot water on 1st morning of stay.
Review 35:Location was excellent
Review 36:From the front, this hotel looks lovely! Go around the back, and Oh Dear...Condition of the rooms and corridors are woefully poor and very univiting. Dark and dingy. Very poor bathroom in poor state of repair. If you are expecting good quality, this is not for you. I actually contemplated leaving and driving home in the middle of the night. Clean but grim...Not worth £60.00 per night
Review 37:Checking out.
Review 38:The hotel is dated only 1 sachet of coffee in the room. Breakfast was good but no mushrooms served with breakfast despite being listed and whilst the list refers to eggs only 1 on the plate.Managed to get the last parking place on the car park. Got the feeling many of the cars on the car park were not belonging to hotel guests but despite the clamping notices does not appear to be controlled.
Review 39:Clean and comfortable for a 1 night stay.Value for money.
Review 40:Room very basic. Very slow breakfast service. Shower not working well at all.
Review 41:Location. Friendliness of staff. Good priced wine! Free parking. Good price.
Review 42:the bar and reception area are nice ,bedrooms was very basic ,could do with a major refurbishment and the corridors could do with a lick of paint
Review 43:The location is ideal very close to the town
Review 44:Not enough tea coffee in room,no biscuits, limited shampoo etc shower hard to get right temperature
Review 45:Good central location easy parking good food friendly reception staff
Review 46:Friendly staff who were happy to help and advised of a party taking place but assured us it would finish by midnight. Being honest we did not hear any noise. Breakfast was available slightly early to allow us to attend a competition on time.
Review 47:I thought I was booked into the Wynnstay Arms High Street Ruabon LL14 6DE, where I had a function to attend, but on arrival was told I was not booked in and to try the Wynnstay Arms in Wrexham, so we went to that hotel and I was booked in there. I manage to get a room in the other hotel and we stayed there. Very confusing and a lot of extra driving involved. fortunately we were not charged for having to cancel.
Review 48:Came here to get a good night's sleep along our journey through the UK. Got NO sleep - the partying in the street didn't end until about 4:00am and the street cleaner came by between 6 and 7am. The shower didn't function and so after a lot of frustration had to have a bath (making it difficult to was my hair.
Review 49:Convenient location and included breakfast
Review 50:Only 1 convenient socket to charge one of your phones, dry your hair, or put kettle on. No bins for rubbish or toiletries. Shower curtain smelt of pee and bathroom full of cobwebs. Pillows very, very hard and only a small double quilt where a kingsize would be better. Couldn't get the window to shut properly so could hear passing drunks arguing into the night. No check-in, or welcome at arrival...just handed a key and told where to go. A maid tried to enter and clean the room over an hour n half before check-out time. When I went down to breakfast there was only one poor girl on breakfast duty, 2 others were outside having a smoke n chat.
Review 51:Breakfast good. Located in the centre of town with good parking facilities.
Review 52:Barely a hello from gentleman who checked us in and shower head nearly knocked me out when it came off shower.
Review 53:Bed was fairly comfy and breakfast was nice.
Review 54:Not hotel's fault, but finding carpark around the one-way system challenging.
Review 55:Very good value for money. £50 B&B. Central location. Bar area v attractive. Spacious reception area. Comfortable room. Good breakfast.
Review 56:the showers seriously need updating, the water just trickled out, ended up having a bath instead, breakfast was ok but the staff who came on duty seem to prioritise their cup of tea/coffee before attending paying customers, I got served a pot of tea, well the pot was chipped at spout and dirty, was a bit off putting
Review 57:location was fab, right in the centre of town, beds were comfy, rooms seriously need updating, I remember staying here years ago and the fixtures/fittings shoers are still the same
Review 58:There was no shower head but the water was hot so it was no big deal even if it was like standing under a hose pipe!.
Review 59:We had initial problems with a strange smell in our room but the staff quickly moved us to a better, more spacious, one. It did get cold but, once again, the staff ensured that the heating got turned on. The drinks vouchers were an excellent gesture. The hotel's location and the car parking facilities could not be better
Review 60:Shower unusable until showerhead replace on second night. Lift broke down, not good as I have a bad hip. Informed verbally but no signage in place to say it was broken. Looking rather dated and jaded, could do with a "make-over".
Review 61:Friendly staff, central location, free WiFi and parking. Food good value.
Review 62:Window did not close Shower was poor - too cold / hot - water oressure low Room was tired and in need of TLC Walls were dusty and in need of a coat of paint No coffee in room Everything seemed old, tired and unloved
Review 63:Friendly reception staff Comfy bed Nice TV set Linen was nice and clean Nice Dove soap, showe gel and shampoo Central location Nice hot choc sachets in room Good hairdryer
Review 64:Shower not working (teething problems for newly installed equipment and my bill was reduced). Nearby church bells ringing at close intervals all night.
Review 65:Friendly helpful staff. Central location
Review 66:Not a BAD bad experience - but would have liked "proper" soap in the bathroom (i.e. not from a dispenser) plus at least a plastic beaker for a tooth mug! Pity to have NO room service, even at weekends - the Wynnstay Arms in Oswestry has rather good room service, and I was expecting something similar. Quite small improvements in housekeeping would lift this hotel to the next level - e.g. soap as above, and brown bread available at breakfast time: not really good enough to have "run out" when there are perfectly adequate shops only yards away!
Review 67:Attractively decorated, clean, safe and quiet. Mostly very kind and helpful staff. Excellent fresh ingredients for breakfast. Just a slight lack of detail - see opposite column.
Review 68:Though clean the hotel fittings e.g. windows, walls, etc. were rather shabby. Though it worked alright the life was very small and rather creaky.
Review 69:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was good and there was plenty of it for breakfast. The room and bed were comfortable with shower, bath, toilet and TV. Often showers are provided but many don't provided a bath as well. I like old buildings and I thought the hotel had an interesting atmosphere suggestive of its age. It's position in the town was just right for my needs.
Review 70:The showers in 2 rooms were no good ( simple fix new shower heads) had to make our own bed up for the children. Had too ask for towels. Very little toilet roll. Asked for more but did not get them. The key would not lock the room.
Review 71:The room was very nice the staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good. The location was perfect and prices were good too.
Review 72:The rooms were awful! There was no shower head on the shower. The window could not be closed. There was mould around the window and sill. The bed was tiny, myself and my husband are small people and we only just fit in the bed. And it most certainly was not comfortable. Overall it was a very unpleasant stay. I was exceptionally disappointed especially as I have stayed in hostels that have better facilities.
Review 73:The staff and location were great.
Review 74:Staff seemed very unmotivated, room 114 very low quality, tv remote in the bar for some reason, shower did not work at all (so no shower that morning), decoration well past its sell by date, meal in restaurant was very low quality. Come on Marstons are you really puting your name to such low quality.
Review 75:never again #######
Review 76:The front of house being vaccuumed whilst we were having breakfast.
Review 77:Jean, the manageress was realy nice as well as the bar staff. The food in bar was very good.
Review 78:The hotel needs an extreme amount of TLC; the shower in my room was a waste of space with no door lock on the bathroom door. There was no hair dryer in the room and on one occasion the room had not been cleaned although the bed had been made.
Review 79:The location and the friendliness of the staff made the stay worthwhile
Review 80:Bedrooms they needed an upgrade ( down stairs areas was lovely ) We had no towels no toilet rolls 1 teabag 2 coffees that was for 2 guests the room needed dusting shower was just a drip had to use the bath but there was plenty of hot water.
Review 81:We liked the lounge (bar area) staff very friendly food lovely ie evening meals breakfasts
Review 82:Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't available the evening I stayed but the staff directed me to an alternative which was very good. My one complaint was that the shower didn't work very well.
Review 83:The staff were very helpful, the parking facilities were excellent and the hotel had a "nice" feel when I walked in.
Review 84:It was all a little basic - completely outdated. The rooms were tired and need refreshing. We were there for a wedding and they massively overbooked meaning people had to find other accomodation or bunk up. The shower - what shower? A trickle is an understatement! Hot and cold taps? Nope, just hot will do for the Wynnstay. Don't take the lift take the stairs - the lift sounds like at any moment it could break. Hardly any parking - but we were advised there was a multistorey next door we could pay for. The travel lodge or premier inn have better facilities - for the price per night the Wynnstay just isn't good enough! All our rooms had a great view of a skip or concrete building!
Review 85:The breakfast was the best part of this stay.
Review 86:Cleanliness, bathroom was not up to standard, toilet paper, no toiletries, cleaners left rubbish in the room after tidying up, dirty bed sheets, uncomfortable pillow.
Review 87:The location and the friendliness of staff
Review 88:Problems with no shower but reception staff promptly dealt with the matter. Main entrance door closed after 11 pm so to enter hotel long walk to rear of hotel entrance which I wouldn't be comfortable to do as a woman on my own
Review 89:Central location friendly staff
Review 90:shower pressure bad, and not only in my room...other friends said theirs didn't work. The tea and coffee making facilities in the room were very poor with very small cups.
Review 91:Helpful , friendly staff.
Review 92:Had to wait a little while before we got checked in as no staff around but was explained to us that they was short and allowed us to our room quickly after that
Review 93:Good location, friendly staff, pleasant rooms
Review 94:We were a (very) late check in arriving after 3am after a festival. The night porter couldn't have been more helpful. The following morning the reception staff were just lovely & so friendly. We could hear some noise coming from the pub goers in street from the bedroom but to be honest, traveling with kids, we were just annoyed we weren't out there too ;) would highly recommend this wee hotel. The breakfast in the morning was fab, great selection & made fresh to order. Thanks
Review 95:Dining was really in a bar-not a restaurant.,with many regular drinkers flitting in and out. Immediate surrounding area full of "ordinary" pubs.
Review 96:The pleasant staff. Plenty of parking space-located in centre of town.
Review 97:Amount of dust in room including large cobweb shower was useless, reception staff outside having a cigarette, no acknowledgement from staff. Toilet dreadful at flushing, toilet roll cheap, and the hotel looking generally unclean
Review 98:The lovely gentleman at the end if the phone guiding us to the hotel and my breakfast Sunday morning
Review 99:Car park difficult to find in the car. No spoons or glasses in the room Toilet paper in short supply. They do not understand that water needs to be boiling to make tea. No serviettes on second day. Water in bathroom dangerously hot.unable to adjust temperature of shower without being under it. This is a health and safety issue.
Review 100:The position of the hotels excellent. All local amenities close by.
Review 101:1 Pillows stuffed into one case 2 had to go to car to get a bungee to hold window open 3 cold water running hot 4 very expensive for what it was 5 poor breakfast service, in fact at one point all staff walked out, and we had to wait 20min for breakfast 6 poor state of walls in room 7 staff generally a bit surly
Review 102:Going home.
Review 103:Sounds daft but finding the car park proved a little hard and having gone through a pedestrian area twice in my attempts to find it am hoping I don't get a fine!!! Only other negative for us was there was a teeny tiny bin in the bathroom which once we had put one nappy in there was full.
Review 104:The staff were friendly, the room was spacious, the bed comfy (although the kids sofa bed was a little bumpy but they didn't complain) Nice breakfast. We had a room over the front of the pub looking up the high street, but no complaints about the noise level, we all slept really well!
Review 105:Very noisy outside, from midnight thru to 04.30. We had a sleepless night. 0ne cheap pillow on the uncomfortable bed. Bathroom was grubby and dated. The whole room was in need of redecoration
Review 106:Breakfast
Review 107:the only fault was that the room we had, the bathroom was a little bit dated, we were offered a upgrade but told the shower didn't work very well so declined
Review 108:the staff were very helpful pleasant and the hotel is in a very good location with the bedroom really good
Review 109:One fault with the shower leaking, could happen anywhere.
Review 110:Friendly and welcoming staff, great town centre location with free parking. Excellent breakfast.
Review 111:Food in the bar wasn't very good meals came out luke warm and it wasn't busy. Should have gone over the road to wetherspoons.
Review 112:Room was comfortable, plenty of carparking for van, located in middle of town.breakfast was ok
Review 113:The room could do with some more attention to the cleaning ( corners for the room, under sink ect) ... And if there are 2 people sharing a room then they should have 2 bath towels and more then 1 toilet roll .
Review 114:I really like this hotel!! However , some of the younger staff who we're on the front desk weren't so attentive at times ..... Fantastic breakfast , great location for shops and night life.
Review 115:There were no people at the front desk. After waiting 20 minutes we managed to get someone to check us in. We've booked a family room for 4, they placed us in a wrong room with 3 beds so they had to bring additional bed. There were no towels in the room. Had to ask for towels. Window couldn't be opened wider than an inch, so we were sweating at night and couldn't sleep. Too much noise from outside at night - people shouting, air conditioners working. Shower water tap was out of order - no hot and cold water at all.
Review 116:Only thing was lack of housekeeping ..but quick to rectify this when we asked and also gave us a reduction in room to compensate,
Review 117:Lovely hotel and so central
Review 118:The showers were very poor. I was given a change of room but, although the new room shower didn't leak so much, there was still no power.
Review 119:Location and fact that breakfast was included. My 'gluten free bread' request was attended to by the next morning.
Review 120:Been before, looking dated now and not much to encourage you to stay again. No water (on first day) or biscuits, hardly any tea, coffee and sugar, only 1 soap dispenser in bathroom.
Review 121:Breakfast good.
Review 122:Tea making facilities not renewed daily. Shower broken and no discount offered for it
Review 123:Great room, comfy bed, really helpful staff - they went the extra mile
Review 124:The shower was poor and not clean. No soap. Breakfast was of poor quality.
Review 125:The staff was helpfull and kind. The bed was excellent. The room was clean.Good location too.
Review 126:Nothing that wasn't very quickly sorted out by the on dry staff! :-)
Review 127:Us as a group of friends stay around 4/5 times a year? Rooms are ideal, breakfast is lovely! The staff are brilliant....polite, friendly? Really helpful x
Review 128:Shower is useless, very tired decor and bath facilities. Needs investment in that. Seriously don't even bother with shower virtually no power.
Review 129:Comfy bed, breakfast was good and the location is great.Staff are ok, but more effort needed by them to give a good experience rather than basic check in and out.
Review 130:Strong smell of beer from hall and stair carpets (not the room ones) pipes in bathroom not covered so could and did burn toe on hot pipe which was VERY hot at floor level even warmed up cold water so at to run for while to get cold water Notice required as to warn people that the Hot water is Scalding
Review 131:Room was comfortable and clean and staff helpful Suggestion need more staff as poor lady was trying to deal with check in, clean up a broken glass and help a wedding party
Review 132:Room was too hot and had no controls for it. Only had decafe coffee in room. Shower was little more than a drip with very little control over temperature, breakfast was a little dissapointing and had to find my own condiments from another table! Plus then had to wait 15 minutes for a grumpy checkout operator to turn up!
Review 133:Location close to town centre with good parking and a good bar onsite. Room was clean and bed was comfortable.
Review 134:This hotel was very tired, appearance was dated and we did not therefore find the room was a standard we expected. We will not choose to stay in this hotel again. We reqularly stay in hotels across the country and found this hotel not to the standard of other hotels offered through Booking.com. We called in advance to check in and they had not prepared a family room. No toilet paper provided in the room, staff laughed at the fact my husband had to asked reception for this item. The room smelt of cigarette smoke. The window frame caked in mildew on the inside...shower head disconnected, when placed onto the main shower it did not work. Premier Inn far cleaner and above the standard of this hotel
Review 135:Only one set towels for two people/misleading post code for car and Hotel access.go in via mount St/Eagles meadow-NOT Yorke St!
Review 136:Finally getting access and to sleep
Review 137:Dinner was ok but asked for curly fries on 2 meals out of 3, both turned up with normal chips. Response was just we must have run out. Shower in bath was non existant, cold and dribbling but fine out of bath. However, we were refunded for dinner and room.
Review 138:Lady at reception very helpful and tried to solve any issues
Review 139:Menu the same as the Marston's pub down the road and not that different to that being offered in another venue across the road. having said that food ok at the price charged.
Review 140:Welcome from staff
Review 141:Toast with breakfast comes on top of the food! Have they never heard of toast racks? Is it an acquired taste to have bean juice and marmalade on the same piece of toast? No beer mats in the pub, some regulars were even bringing in their own beer mats! Who wants a dripping glass every time you try to take a sip from your glass? Bathroom dated and dirty, needs a good clean and sprue up. Wifi connection erratic in room 119.
Review 142:Staff were friendly and very helpful.
