Hintlesham Hall Hotel

Hintlesham Hall Hotel descritpion
A 21st-century haven of comfort and friendly professionalism within a Grade I heritage-listed Elizabethan manor house, Hintlesham Hall is nestled on 175 acres of rolling Suffolk countryside.
The 16th-century building is distinguished by its Georgian additions, most notably the famous facade, and by earlier Stuart interior embellishments. Widely recognized as one of the loveliest in the UK and Ireland's highest rated hotels, the Hall has 33 bedrooms and suites of varying shapes, sizes and styles, enhanced by fine fabrics, works of art and antiques. Free wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The hotel's focus is on friendly professionalism and the list of available activities is substantial, although the heart of Hintlesham Hall provides the opportunity simply to relax and perhaps wander around the grounds or countryside before enjoying chef's latest menus and depleting our award winning wine cellar. Guests can enjoy a massage or facial in the specially assigned treatment room. Adjacent is the associated championship PGA golf course and clubhouse.

Reviews for Hintlesham Hall Hotel
Review 1:Overall decoration looked a little tired. Our room was very hot and unable to keep window open has it had broken sash.
Review 2:Good evening meal, overpriced breakfast.
Review 3:Bed needs replacing. Had an awful nights sleep because of it. Price of the food in the restaurant was too high. Staying for 100 nights plus a year in hotels it is not value for money in the restaurant in comparison to other hotels of it's quality that I stay in.
Review 4:Location
Review 5:I didn't want to leave!
Review 6:Absolutely stunning hotel. The drive up to the hotel with the Christmas trees and the lights was just magical. The house is beautiful, just like Downton. Quiet lounges with mood lighting, open fires, twinkling lights and sumptuous couches. There is nothing to dislike! The rooms are beautiful, beds incredibly comfy with lovely baths.
Review 7:Attentive staff but not intrusive. Excellent room with beautiful comfortable beds, fluffy towels. Fabulous service from the minute we arrived until the time we checked out. Fabulous food. Lovely location.
Review 8:Absolutely nothing
Review 9:A beautiful hotel in beautiful surroundings nothing was too much trouble. The lovely young man on reception opened the bar at midnight when we returned from the family wedding next door at the golf club and served us drinks which was a lovely end to a beautiful day. Breakfast was lovely shame we didn't get to try the food in the restaurant as we had food at the wedding which was beautiful too thank you. Will be back.
Review 10:The pathway to the annex I stayed in was quite uneven and not lit well in the dark
Review 11:Friendly, helpful staff. Gorgeous room with a very comfortable bed.
Review 12:The staff, friendly attending to the smallest detail. We loved the evening meals, again staff very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble, we would come again.
Review 13:Overall we enjoyed our stay and the room (Queen Anne, Principle room) was lovely. Our main issue was that thee was no key for our room so eveytime we wanted to enter our room, a member of staff had to let us in with the master key. We felt like we had lost a bit of freedom. Ther was no offer of an apology for this inconvenience.
Review 14:Room, room size, hotel grounds, food, bathroom.
Review 15:The classic music tape that was playing in the restaurant was stuck, and kept playing the same track over and over again! we mentioned it to the waiter, but he said there wasn't anything he could do.
Review 16:Very relaxing atmosphere, and the grounds are stunning.
Review 17:No bin for dog poo. Non disclosure of firework displays on 2 nights - our dogs were petrified. (The hotel did take account of our complaints about this in the bill but we felt a little imagintion would have helped to prevent the problem in the first place.)
Review 18:Room very comfortable and service excellent. Food high quality.
Review 19:Not being given a bill for dining or drinks in bar to sign so no idea what cost is at the time . Bar a little quiet, eventually barman put some background music on.
Review 20:Polite and courteous staff, good food.
Review 21:thin walls, child that woke at 4am. Very tired room stained carpet. No hairdryer in room. Receptionist that does not give eye contact . Caravans on front lawn.
Review 22:The staff in the bar and lounge were very friendly and helpful. Grounds at back of property beautiful. Would have liked to have more information about the history of the hall available.
Review 23:There were no bad experiences.
Review 24:The hotel was calm, beautiful and reassuring. The dining was very good, not exactly haute cuisine and the portions were if anything a little large but this is a minor point. Robert Carrier would be pleased to see what you are doing.
Review 25:Housekeeping had made up my room but left the toilet blocked and in a revolting condition. Beggars belief that they could "overlook" the state of the toilet. Was relocated and refunded breakfast. Still feel a bit sick thinking about it now.
Review 26:More of an observation than a gripe - our room only had two small windows with only one opening. Amazingly for the UK the weather was hot (and close too) and the room became oppressively hot. We had to order a pair of fans to cool down. Didn't have breakfast at £18.50 - too expensive!
Review 27:The hotel in its grounds is very quiet. The views from our room were across the tree lined courtyard. Room decoration is simple and unobtrusive. A well stocked bar is useful for refreshment.
Review 28:We had issues with water pressure in room resulting in no well wanted bath and mediocre shower! but staff were quick to help and try and resolve, unfortunately maintenance weren't available
Review 29:Room was lovely and clean
Review 30:Fantastic stay to celebrate our 5 year anniversary & my birthday. Couldn't fault a thing. Once again staff were lovely & food was exquisite & amazing value for money. We will definitely be dining & staying again. Thank you x
Review 31:The fact that I booked a superior double but was put into a classic double. Considerable difference. When I mentioned this the next morning they blamed Booking. Com with no offer of remuneration. I am sure there was no coincidence that they were fully booked for a wedding. Dishonest and deceitful.
Review 32:The building
Review 33:WiFi !! What WiFi ? Coverage was so low in our room that it made it impossible to connect. Did query it and given another access point but that had no internet connection. Stayed in Meghan room. Needs another armchair in the room, one is not enough for a spacious double. Lots of space to accommodate it.
Review 34:Bed very comfortable and staff amazing, very attentive and helpful. In fact they made our stay there one to remember. Food excellent and well presented. Will return.......
Review 35:Smell of paint during the whole evening was strong which resulted in headaches
Review 36:Food,staff,entertainment as was for works party, cleanliness of hotel and rooms.
Review 37:staff attentive but a little slow and disorganized at times. requests for cutlery forgotten bar unattended.always pleasant and apologetic but could be more on the ball.
Review 38:country house atmosphere and feel.lovely surroundings. good food. very relaxed.
Review 39:We liked everything. Maybe there could have been another choice on the table d'hote dessert menu, but otherwise everything was lovely.
Review 40:We loved everything about the hotel. We especially loved sitting in front of the log fires in the lounges. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the Christmas period. We loved our huge room with its stone fireplace, overlooking the gardens. And the beautiful dining room.
Review 41:Timperley Room although rustic, the broken window and very uneven floor caused problems for someone with balance problems. No lift, which brought a new meaning to 'Going up the wooden hill to bed!'
Review 42:Staff attention to detail, listen to concerns and made adjustments. The peaceful setting and roaring fires in the evening.
Review 43:The evening meal was dreadful and I nearly sent it back. The chips were full of cooking fat and almost leaking on the plate, ditto onion rings.
Review 44:Cleanliness, quiet room, nicely furnished
Review 45:Shame the fitness side wasn't open dissapointed
Review 46:Our stay was lovely from start to finish, staff very nice & helpful. Breakfast so much to choose from, tasted great, quality excellent & afternoon tea was delightful certainely recommend. massage was very good ladys were really good
Review 47:No mobile phone reception and poor Wi-Fi (no good for anything except emails) Food was very disappointing, and expensive. It advertises itself as having fine dining - not when we were there - not even the cooked breakfast!
Review 48:Modernised spacious room with comfortable bed. Some very large grand rooms in main house (although some could do with redecorating).
Review 49:Outstanding customer service from genuinely nice, caring and friendly staff. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff work really well as a team to care for you that you can't help relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings!
Review 50:Due to the age of the build and the walls being very thick the use of Wi-Fi is difficult in certain parts of the hotel
Review 51:We had an overnight stay prior to a cruise sailing from Harwich. The hotel is very impressive with sweeping drive almost like Downton Abbey . The check in when smoothly with receptionist taking us to our room and showing use how things worked ,very spacious room, bathroom with the White Company toiletries and very clean. We ate in the restaurant which was excellent with a professional slick service .I would certainly stay again
Review 52:I would have liked there to be more information on the different rooms available, perhaps a leaflet? Apart from that I couldn't fault my stay.
Review 53:Staff were welcoming, food was fantastic and I got great value for money. Me and my partner will definitely be staying again.
Review 54:Food is good but although we eat all kinds of food the food at hintlesham is not to our taste. Well presented but small portions and we feel, quite overpriced. Breakfast is fantastic.
Review 55:Locality, history, individuality of each room. Variety of rooms for drinking and lounging.
Review 56:We arrived late, and the restaurant was closed. We will be early next visit. We did manage to get a steak sandwich at the bar, which was the best we had ever eaten.
Review 57:Everything.
Review 58:Fading decor & broken sashcord in bedroom; similarly in adjoining passage which was a bit musty smelling.
Review 59:Good base for seeing this part of Suffolk. Grand old building and country house atmosphere. Very good food, breakfast and dinner. Attentive and helpful staff - one or two waiters were particularly good.
Review 60:The small room we were given was not the category we had booked. The carpet was dirty, the bed valance was filthy and the bed was covered in dirt which had fallen from an overhead beam. We were given a second room, carpet had stains and we didn't realise that the door did not lock from the inside until the chamber-maid entered without warning. Décor of hotel very tired and in one lounge old coffee stains on windowsill and down radiator, reception like a 1950s railway booking hall and reception staff haughty. Lounge meal very poor standard for the price. They should not advertise free wifi when you have to go right out into the carpark to get a phone signal and wifi hit and miss.
Review 61:Restaurant meal was good.
Review 62:After a day out, the long climb to 'Cordelia' was sometimes a struggle.
Review 63:The warm welcome, the friendliness of all the staff and the care and professionalism with which they went about their duties. Nothing was too much trouble. The quality of the food was superb.
Review 64:Reception girl surly. Children not allowed in the dining room for dinner, which seems ludicrous in this day and age. Beds were soft and need replacing.
Review 65:Nice location, and rooms.
Review 66:Our room was up in the attic, quite small and very hot at nights. If ever we went back to this hotel it would be primary importance to have an upgraded room on a lower floor.
Review 67:We liked the food, the breakfasts and Sunday lunch. We think a spa facility would be a help as there is nothing to do in the immediate area except for the golf club. The staff were very good indeed.
Review 68:the breakfast was really good room very comfortable
Review 69:Sadly we had a fire alarm go off at 1am in the morning.
Review 70:Place was in the right location
Review 71:Room was lovely as was the food and good choice. Wonderful hotel and location!
Review 72:Unfortunately we both became unwell after dinner, I believe it could have been the canapes served with drinks at the bar.
Review 73:The standard of the room was not kept up over the duration of the stay
Review 74:Most of the staff where very pleasant with the exception of reception
Review 75:The building, the grounds and its furnishings
Review 76:The large room, welcoming staff and quality service
Review 77:Good size bedroom, attention to detail
Review 78:So quiet relaxing
Review 79:Lovely place
Review 80:Breakfast was expensive - did not bring a second pot of tea as asked for
Review 81:Quiet location fairly good bedroom - almost on a par with a Premier Inn.
Review 82:Terrible WIFI
Review 83:Bed was amazing! Slept so well
Review 84:The relaxation and friendliness of staff.
Review 85:Room too hot
Review 86:Grandeur of the place
Review 87:Nothing
Review 88:Rooms. Food. Location
Review 89:Shower had low pressure
Review 90:Location, setting, ambiance
Review 91:We were attending a wedding, we were allowed in a room to get ready as ours wasn't vacated yet. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 92:we ate several meals at the hotel and found them all to be very ordinary; not up to the standard expected.

Review 106:A very comfortable hotel run by friendly and professional staff. The food was excellent and we would certainly go back there.
Review 107:Shower temperature was difficult to control. Some of the décor required attention.
Review 108:Location. Grounds, and Staff
Review 109:The bed was comfortable but caused some rolling towards the middle.
Review 110:Excellent food and attentive staff.
Review 111:Felt excellent value for the money. Took notice of requests ie easy access room for elderly parents

Review 118:Wi fi patchy in far flung rooms
Review 119:Courtesy of staff as well as being helpful, efficient and friendly without being familiar.
Review 120:The bathroom in our room (Timperly) needs a shelf for toilet items and toothbrushes etc.
Review 121:We liked the old building and setting
