Reviews for Woodlands Hotel & Pine Lodges
Review 1:Having visited out of season when staff often out number guests, we often experience a less accommodating experience, however on this occasion even though the hotel had only 3 guests both owner and staff gave us a warm welcome and were very accommodating. Our overall experience was not lesser than we would expect even though the facility was probably running at a loss during this quiet time. Excellent facility, well placed, very welcoming.
Review 2:Lack of lighting, very dim even with lamp on. Timed hot water nerve wracking with four adults and heater in main area not very good.
Review 3:Well appointed and clean.
Review 4:The TV was a little small for such a good size chalet but it really isn't a complaint. Simply an observation.
Review 5:The site was fantastic and was well signposted and easy to find. Once there the check in procedure was pleasant and straightforward and we were given the key to our superb Chalet/Lodge. We were thrilled with the size and layout and although it was a cold rainy day outside (It was January) once the electric fires and radiators were turned on it warmed up really quickly. (In fact we soon had to turn radiators down) The lodge was fully equipped with everything you could need for cooking etc and the beds were extremely comfortable. It was lovely to have a sauna inside the chalet and we actually did use it and once again this was so simple to use and warmed up very quickly. The site is in a great location and is just a short drive from the main tourist locations in the lakes. Windermere, Kendal etc. All in all it we really enjoyed our stay at Woodlands Hotel lodges and will definitely return in the near future.
Review 6:The bed wasn't very comfortable and it was a double bed, not kingsize as stated. The shower wasn't very powerful and the head was too heavy for the bracket so it kept falling off.
Review 7:The location of this hotel was amazing and the facilities were good. For dog - friendly accommodation we couldn't have asked for much better as the staff were friendly and allowed the dog into the bar area, which made our stay a lot easier and more pleasant.
Review 8:really could do with blinds or nets on the windows, as anyone can see in. didn't like how quick you go though electric £20 in three and a half days
Review 9:really like the cabin and the facilities in the cabin, like the sauna
Review 10:Didn't like having to put in cards for the power.
Review 11:Our cabin was excellent - with everything you needed. It was warm, spacious, and spotlessly clean. The restaurant really good quality meals.
Review 12:It's a bit off the beaten track so I think the signs could be bigger and more strategically placed. Found it with google maps.
Review 13:Really comfortable, clean lodge. Nice surroundings. Sauna was lovely too. Evening meals available in the hotel bit - very nice
Review 14:The spa function of the bath did not work, but thats not a challenge.. :) The shower was great!
Review 15:The unit was very neat and clean. We stayed 9 nights and our bed linen was changed after the first week. The unit is equipped with all necessities for self catering so take note to take your own toiletry supplies and towels. Take dishwashing tablets. You pay a breakage deposit of £50. The unit comes equipped with heating, a sauna and other appliances which uses much electricity. It is for that reason that I agree that you pay for the usage. You get given 5 x £10 vouchers which you use as needed and this can be deducted from the breakage deposit if you did not use them all. We used all our vouchers during the 9 days. We didn't use the sauna. The restaurant was great. Very good food and friendly service. Very good local beers are served at the bar. The location of the lodge is very near to the main roads which is great.
Review 16:We booked dinner for 8.00pm on the first night of our stay but on arriving at the restaurant 10 minutes early we were told quite abruptly that our order could not be taken until 8.00pm as we had not booked until then! This is the first time I have been told this by staff on arriving a few minutes early for a reservation, usually you are offered a seat in the bar or something but certainly not this sort of response. However we were shown to our table and waited until 8.00pm and then expected to be served on time as they were so precise, but by 8.10pm nobody had even approached us, so we left the restaurant and found a pub where we were served immediately by very friendly and welcoming staff. The following morning I explained that one of the bulbs in the bathroom spotlights was not working so the manager said he would get maintenance to replace it. I left our room key with him at reception when we went out at 9.30am. On arriving back at the hotel at 5.00pm our room key was unattended on the desk top at reception. We had no idea how long it had been there as there was nobody around to ask. Obviously anyone could have picked up our key and had access to our room. I complained to the staff later and was told that the maintenance man must have left it there! Even if he had left it there, surely one of the receptionists/manager should have moved it to a safe place - very unprofessional! I appreciate that kitchens have to be prepared in advance for breakfasts, but boiled mushrooms never taste good!
Review 17:The room was very comfortable and the hotel was in a good location.
Review 18:Lovely setting and very convenient for Grange. Very well equipped chalet ..loved the sauna and the verandas. Everything new and IKEA. Hotel meal fantastic and good value.
Review 19:Only no wifi provided in the house, a bit disappointed.
Review 20:The kitchen is so perfect, you can find whatever utensils in the kitchen. The environment around is very quiet and natural. Like living in a forest. We all love it much.
Review 21:We stayed a couple of nights in a lodge and were delighted with the location and facilities. Didn't actually use the sauna, but would do if we return, which we hope to do. Very friendly bar and excellent staff. Very clean and tidy.
Review 22:Though there seems to be a WiFi signal, it is not activated and acannot be used. No towels are provided.
Review 23:Our self catering unit was clean, neat and very well equipped with a great with on the surrounding woodlands. We had parking immediately adjacent to our unit. Very comfortable and spacious and provided easy access to Grange-over-Sands, Windermere and the like.
Review 24:Wifi only available in main house and was very slow.
Review 25:The space and comfort provided in the chalet allowed us to have a very comfortable break without being dependent on the facilities in the main hotel house.
Review 26:Would be nice to have been a little bearer to a corner shop.
Review 27:The cabin was beautiful, extremely clean. Very quiet, no noice from other guests as the log cabins are situated independently from one another. Excellent choice of menu at the hotel restaurant and competitively priced.
Review 28:Wifi was only available in hotel which was a bit of a bind. lucky I phoned the night before as I was not going to take any towels, good job I did as they do not provide any! I have never had to take towels so was surprised by this. Nothing was in the literature either. On arrival we were also asked to leave a monetary deposit and was asked if we had been told we had to pay for electricity! I only had £20 and was a bit taken aback about the electricity but the girl said it was ok and she wouldnt charge for it! Nothing again was in the literature.
Review 29:Excellent location for us as we were there for Cartmel Races. Very pleasant staff. Excellent choice of food in the Hotel restaurant and beautifully cooked. The chef even changed the pepper sauce on the steak for stilton when my son asked.
Review 30:The weekend was booked as a surprise for my partner and we weren't disappointed . The room was lovely , very clean and well kept , there were tea/coffee making facilities (topped up daily ) a TV with freeview and free WiFi . The private bathroom had a bath with shower , clean towels ( changed daily ) and enough toiletries/ toilet roll to last a long weekend ( though room service came daily if needed ) There was plenty of choice for breakfast , cerial , toast , full english (Very tasty ) and fresh fruit ,also numerous fruit juices , tea and coffee . The evening meal was very nice a little different to what we usually eat but well worth having . The bar was cosy and friendly . As for the staff they were all very polite , friendly and helpful . Steve has got to be one of the most hard working people I have ever met . he was there from breakfast right through till the and of the day , always smiling and ready to help . The hotel is in a beautiful secluded area perfect for long walks OR a short drive from a village or two . Overall a perfect weekend , no complaints at all .
Review 31:The website must have been confusing as I managed to book an hotel room instead of a log cabin.
Review 32:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The hotel was clean and well maintained throughout.
Review 33:As well as the accommodation being perfect all the staff were friendly and helpful making our trip even more pleasant. The food was of high quality and cooked perfectly.
Review 34:The two single beds would squeak when on and weren't that comfortable. They could have provided simple things like: soap, towels for the bathroom and toilet paper. Another thing that wasn't that pleasant, was that we had to check in at 15:00 and check out at 10:00AM which was to early to pack and clear everything.
Review 35:The location of our lodge was great. It was nice how the dog could go outside and play with other dogs, and how there was no way the dogs could escape or run off. the lodge was clean and the double bed was very comfortable with enough space to put our belongings. we also liked the balcony, where we could keep and eye on our children and dog. I would definitely return on my next visit to Lake District.
Review 36:The evening menu was not to our liking but that is just a personal thing.
Review 37:The room was lovely. The staff were very helpful and they had good knowledge of the area.
Review 38:Iocation is nice but its a bit secluded, wifi reception very poor
Review 39:Cleanliness, very friendly staff and restaurant food was excellent, food was good and presentation was great
Review 40:When we arrived on check in a £50 cash deposit was requested even though we had paid in full prior to our visit. Cabin not serviced at all during stay. Had to ask for towels, only one small bottle of gel for bath, no hand soap etc. Checked in for 3 nights - no restaurant availability for 2 of the three nights, so we made other provisions.
Review 41:Location fantastic.
Review 42:nothing
Review 43:The staff were great, very clean and excellent food. Off the beaten track but suited us perfectly as short drive to the main lakes. Great trip will return if in the lakes
Review 44:Comfortable, quiet, clean with friendly but not over imposing staff. The food was good. Location of hotel suited us with everything we wanted to see easily located. Will be visiting again!
Review 45:The attitude of the management displayed through greed, inflexibility and lack of customer service. Although the confirmation stated that the cost covered sauna etc, we were told otherwise from the management upon arrival who then proceeded to charge us 30 pounds extra for three days stay. The position of the management remained fixed despite showing confirmation to the contrary. Staying during the winter period would be very expensive as unbeknown to us (and most others) you are expected to pay for all electricity used. No evidence of this featured when booking.
Review 46:The new cabin was excellent with good facilitties. The junior staff at the property was welcoming and extremely friendly and service-minded.
Review 47:Peaceful location. Wonderful amenities and hotel staff were very welcoming. The food served in the hotel was very good and reasonably priced. Overall a perfect getaway retreat.
Review 48:We loved the location and the place as travelling with kids is not always an easy thing but they enjoyed playing around the chalets and it felt very safe too
Review 49:When booking our stay there was no note that you have to bring your own towels.however gentleman who had us checked in accommodate our needs
Review 50:Kitchen had everything what you need.we had our own sauna which was fantastic and bath with massage.location was nice and quiet, with a lot of option to walk the dog.tarrace was nice add on for warm days!We really enjoyed our stay!!!
Review 51:No complaints
Review 52:Place was easy to find, not far from all main routes to explore the area. Lovely cabin in a secluded quiet area ticked all if our boxes.
Review 53:Steve, Ann, and the entire staff at Woodlands Hotel are extraordinary. This was our first trip to the Lake District and we were delighted to spend the weekend with such friendly, kind, accommodating, and courteous company. We travelled with a young pup and they went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcome and were taken care of. Great location as well: during this trip we were able to visit Arnside, Grange, Lakeside, Bowness, and Coniston.
Review 54:Nothing at all to compl;ain about.
Review 55:Owners and staff very friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent and very good value for money. Will be back again later in the year.
Review 56:The only thing we found was the TV reception wasn't great. It this wasn't too much of a problem as we were out most of the time .
Review 57:The lodge was lovely , the surroundings peaceful n well maintained. Had An evening meal at the restaurant which was good value for money and Great food. Staff were very friendly
Review 58:Lodges were beautiful very well equipped and staff were very helpful, we also ordered food from the restaurant and they brought it to our lodge as baby was in bed, really nice of them and food was amazing x
Review 59:- Beds are not comfortable - it's like sleeping on springs. - Electricity is to be paid in addition - considering the high rate, should be included. Not mentioned on Booking.com - No towels - to be paid extra
Review 60:Nice location, decent cottages.
Review 61:The breakfast at the hotel has to ordered . We did this one day thinking it would be great at 8.95 each . It WAS awful... Tinned mushrooms ..cheap sausages ... Yuk! Not special at all. Also the bathroom fittings were new but it's really shoddily put together . The shower fittings are rubbish.
Review 62:Location is great to explore the southern lakes . Sauna was good fun to have in the cabin. The kids loved the jacuzzi ..
Review 63:All the headboards on the beds squeaked when you moved!!!!
Review 64:A great location with easy access to all southern lake areas. Secluded and quiet. Good food and friendly staff.
Review 65:The only things that stopped me giving this a 10 for everything is the bed and sofas. The bed is tired and the sofas really could do with replacing. The young lady that showed us around on arriving didn't go through everything very well with us either and as a result, we found out that the fire and a number of lights weren't working. These should be tested before each new arrival.
Review 66:Beautifully clean with a huge whirlpool bath and sauna. The location is nice and quiet and a great restaurant and bar only 100yds away.
Review 67:The bed was very uncomfortable way to hard. This would be the only thing to stop us staying again.
Review 68:The staff were lovely, we had a really nice meal in hotel restaurant. We stayed in a lodge, facilities good, shower fantastic, powerful. Location good and easy to find.
Review 69:Having to pay extra for electricity. I think it should be included in price The prices are quite high I was fortunate as we went out of high season. So not as expensive We enquires for future dates. But it's too expensive especially with electricity added on top
Review 70:The cabins are amazing. They are home from home with everything you need Beds are really comfy. Much more spacious than I expected.
Review 71:Nothing.
Review 72:Exceeded our expectation in every way. New Year's Eve was an excellent evening and the staff are very attentive and first class all round. We will definitely be back:)
Review 73:Would be better to have some WiFi signal in each lodges. Paying the electricity is the main down side. And £50 deposit was not mentioned when I booked it. Only came up when I checked-in.
Review 74:Quite location just south side of Lake District. Unfortunately we haven't had a chance to enjoy the seaside of Grange-over-Sands which just 5mins drive. Stayed in the Pine Lodges, very nice with small kids. Sauna is brilliant. Would be better if we come back again in summer time.
Review 75:Lots of paperwork/leaflets arrived with booking receipt covering lists of do`s/don`ts/terms and conditions etc but they don`t mention that you have to cough up £50 to pay for electricity ( in the form of £10 tokens ) for 3 days!. We used only 2 and to be fair got £30 back.
Review 76:Location is great for access to the Southern Lakes and road network and very peaceful at the same time. Food at the hotel was really good value for money. Staff very friendly.
Review 77:It was in a nice surroundings however we were informed that the swimming and leisure facilities were onsite and/or close however these were 2 miles away and closed on 29th September. We had 2 children with us and had to go to a local caravan site and hire day passes to use swimming facilities etc for pleasure use. Also, the sauna did not work (which we only found out the last night) and nothing done by staff for compensation etc. on the day of leaving after mentioning it. There was also no docking station which was mentioned in the itinerary and leaflet.
Review 78:It was in a nice surroundings and quite
Review 79:Staff tried but did not come across as being sincere, as an example one waitress told us to enjoy our meal as she walked away with her back to us. No cake of soap available when requested, only soap in china dispenser which was awkward to use in a shower.
Review 80:The seclusion and peacefulness, good food.
Review 81:The only thing that would change the quality of sleep to excellent from fair is more comfortable mattresses. Even our two children complained about a bumpy nights sleep, however we all have memory foam mattresses at home. Apart from that we all loved the lodge and can't wait to return.
Review 82:Beautiful location Stunning cabin with sauna Fantastic honest and friendly staff Car parking outside accommodation Good food in hotel The most quiet nights sleep ever Lovely clean lodge Fantastic value for money Would recommend the Hotel and lodge without hesitation too all my friends and family
Review 83:The charge for electricity at the end of our 3 night stay was £17. This seemed excessive as the weather was warm and we did not use any of the heaters or the sauna and only cooked one meal. I should have queried it when checking out but was with friends.
Review 84:Nice location, quiet and peaceful at night, and easy access to the Lake District. The lodges are comfortable.
Review 85:We have no complaints.
Review 86:The room was very comfortable & clean. Breakfast selection was varied, tasty & very good service ( thankyou ladies). The staff were extremely helpful; especially Dan.
Review 87:The water pressure was poor which isn't there fault so the shower was poor, hubby tried to have a bath one night and the water was Luke warm, there wasn't much to do in the hotel on a night apart from sit in the bar, the bed was brill size but uncomfortable we didn't sleep well, but in sure other people where fine jus another personal preference.
Review 88:The staff where very helpful, the room was of decent size, the food was lovely , and the hotel was clean,
Review 89:would liked to open bedroom window wider for fresh air. would have liked two armchairs in room
Review 90:nice small hotel in quiet location, warm welcome. Friendly staff, nice restaurant and lovely food
Review 91:Being next to the hotel alittle noisy
Review 92:Very tranquil bit out of the way need a car to get around our lodge was next to the hotel so alittle noisy would have preferred one in the middle but still a lovely place to stay hotel good was lovely
Review 93:nothing bad to say about the hotel- every bit was fantastic!
Review 94:Had a wonderful stay at the woodlands hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel was clean and everything was provided to a high standard. The food was EXCELLENT and I would recommend eating and staying here to anybody.
Review 95:We attempted to cancel the booking with 30+ hours notice and despite many calls to the Hotel and Booking.com never received a definite answer, finally advised on arrival that if we had not have turned up we would have been charged the full £216 for two nights
Review 96:Location Great
Review 97:The road to the Hotel was full of pot holes and was slightly of the beaten track. Was also asked for a £50 cash deposit to cover breakages and Electricity which we were not told about until we arrived. Bar areas in the Hoterl is not very big and went busy not a lot of seating easpecially as there is two caravan sites within walking distance of the hotel would use the bar and resturant.
Review 98:Nice and quiet excellent location for chilling out. Log Cabin was well equiped and comfortable.
Review 99:For us the main thing we didnt like was it was too secluded, with nothing to do in the hotel. Because its in woodlands off the beaten track it meant a drive along narrow roads to go anywhere. Simple things too like having to ask for basic information, for instance, what was procedure for meals, take a seat wait to be seated pay at the bar at the table etc. What was the code for Wifi. Just small concerns granted. The information should have been in the room. Plus only just luke warm water. and a very very creaky bed. Nice place but a few little things that could be improved on.
Review 100:The food was first rate and the setting, in its own grounds surrounded by woodlands looked nice. For anyone wanting a very very relaxed and secluded holiday. This is the place.
Review 101:The lodges were too close together thought it was going to be more secluded. Note nought hot water for two baths.
Review 102:The location was great. Quiet and easy to reach via the motorway.
Review 103:Nothing -everything was perfect.
Review 104:Very friendly staff. comfortable hotel. Excellent meals. Very peaceful and quiet. Good location for South Lakes but away from the tourists.
Review 105:Nothing
Review 106:Absolutely everything, it was comfortable, quiet, and we were very well looked after. The food and the staff were great, and we will definitely be visiting again.
Review 107:Bath and shower water was not the hottest and it took an age to fill the bath in Room 4. Also the door lock was a bit of a fiddle.
Review 108:Staff were friendly and helpful. My wife and I would have no hesitation in returning in the near future.
Review 109:the plumbing was atrocious-I heard the pipes every time anyone used a shower. the room I had was above the kitchen and smelt of any cooking going on. the bed was uncomfortable with each side of it sloping downwards
Review 110:I liked where the property was located
Review 111:The phone signal was week
Review 112:The place
Review 113:Beautiful surroundings, great staff who were happy to help and very nice lodge
Review 114:Lovely peaceful place. Great for exploration of Southern Lakes
Review 115:There is no Wi Fi in the Lodges. More than that the mobile signal is too low
Review 116:Helpful staff and a great rural setting. Spa bath and large sauna in the lodge. Ideal for exploring the lakes. Good food at the hotel.
Review 117:Warm welcome. Very clean an homely.
Review 118:No wifi in lodges - had to go to hotel No central leisure facilities eg gym
Review 119:Lodge clean and generally good facilities Sauna in lodge was a bonus
Review 120:Brilliant location
Review 121:N/A
Review 122:All very good.
Review 123:Quality of accomodation and attitude of staff. Area one to which we would like to return. Food in Hotel excellent.
Review 124:the staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and the views and walks and the food all went down well
Review 125:The quietness and peacefull
Review 126:No wifi
Review 127:Location was very good and peaceful
Review 128:No WIFI in the chalet
Review 129:The chalet was so clean and have modern furniture style
Review 130:No WiFi in the lodges yet :(
Review 131:Fantastic location. Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast and nice clean lodge.
