Reviews for Netherwood Hotel
Review 1:The water from the taps in the bathroom was dangerously HOT, as were the taps themselves......too hot to touch! The bed was a bit squeaky and wobbled every time I turned over. Having said that, I did have a good night's sleep. Thank you.
Review 2:Excellent location for our family celebration. Handy for M6. I have stayed before so I knew what to expect. The food was superb and the breakfast was first class. The room was dated, but comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the Staff who were very pleasant.
Review 3:Bar area a bit small and not much seating, or anything to read ie daily papers. Everything else was great.
Review 4:Beautiful grounds, great views over bay. Lovely old world charm ( think downton abbey) real fire in bar area. No pubs to speak of in walking distance so you pretty much have to use the bar here.
Review 5:This hotel & food is excellent, but on the expensive side, so why are we supplied with a self-service rotating toast cremating machine for breakfast? That's a 'cattle-class' facility. If we need to queue to cook our own breakfast, reduce your price accordingly. (& for anyone who's new to the area, Grange-Over-Sands is really 'Grange-Over-Swamp'... don't think you can walk your dog there)
Review 6:An excellent period property, tastefully modernised in-keeping with the original features. Fantastic chef(s) = great food (but a touch pricey) Pool, Jacuzzi, steam room (etc) - not huge, but a nice bonus for residents.
Review 7:Room was very small . decor was very tired . bed was covered in dog hairs . stains on walls carpets and ceiling . kept awake by barking dogs in rooms near us . asked on 6 occasions by the same staff about eating in the hotel at night and kept trying to press us to eat there. When we went down to breakfast which was below average when we returned to our room the cleaners had already been in there even though we hadnt checked put yet. The veiw from our room was a muddy bank about 6 feet away from the window.
Review 8:Location and gardens .
Review 9:The bar was a bit expensive especially for the single glass of wine.
Review 10:Good old fashioned feel and appearance of the hotel, great setting overlooking the bay and got a sea view room, good English breakfast, relaxing stay.
Review 11:Shower in room poor and not fixed after we notified reception. Not impressed with fixed price evening meal. Slow over elaborate service and considered not good value.
Review 12:Location, friendly staff, breakfast
Review 13:The upstairs Decor was dated and threadbare in some areas the chairs were rickety and the walls were thin. I could hear conversations in the room next door.
Review 14:The location and area was beautiful the hotel overlooked the sea with sweeping lawns and a magnificent appeal from the roadside.
Review 15:We felt the bed was too soft at the side and the pillows were uncomfortable, therefore we didnt sleep very well during our stay.
Review 16:Location and surroundings including the garden. The Thai bar man certainly knew how to make an excellent gin and tonic
Review 17:Loud disco underneath one bedroom - not notified that this would happen. Car was dented in car park. Rooms, whilst pleasant, are looking a bit tired and need updating and refurbishing.
Review 18:Location, building, lounges and dining area, food. Generally very agreeable.
Review 19:Breakfast was our downside in a hotel like this I would expect the breakfast to wow us and fill usup - it didn't unfortunately, for the full English they need to use quality ingredients, ended up leaving most it, best part was the croissant, yogurt, and cornflakes, the staff serving breakfast need to take tips of the day staff when serving politely too. The bedrooms need slightly modernising.
Review 20:the hotel looks amazing, the pictures don't do it justice enough, (coming from a photographer) sea view outstanding, office staff always polite, smiley, they cant do enough for you. Comfy large bed.
Review 21:We liked everything!
Review 22:We liked The Netherwood because it is a family owned hotel and not part of a chain. All the staff spoke to us if we passed them and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent. We shall go again.
Review 23:Nothing
Review 24:Staff were excellent hotel very comfy food very good, hotel grounds very nice never used spar did look in and looked fine wish we had stayed longer will return you can't go wrong booking here not the cheapest but still very good value for money
Review 25:Shower was a trickle. Although we appreciated the fact that the spa remained open till late (a very last minute decision to travel meant we didn't get there until 8pm)... The spa did not feel very clean or modern and was not particularly enjoyable. We didn't stay in it very long.
Review 26:Beautiful grounds which were immaculate. Breakfast was lovely and we were well looked after.
Review 27:The bathroom needed updating. Ie the tops putting back on the taps. The shower was err very poor.
Review 28:Loved the building and the food was very very nice. The staff went above and beyond to make our Stay nice. We stayed for 2 nights. Was well worth it. Would come again if it was a little bit cheaper.
Review 29:Room was very poor, very old deco and very noisy shower. Bed not comfortable at all. May be I a was unlucky and had the worst room but was very disappointment.
Review 30:The hotel looks amazing outside and inside.
Review 31:The only downside, was staying in Rock House, an annex. There was no sound proofing between the rooms, so you're aware of neighbouring guests in their bathrooms and get woken up with toilets flushing and showers running.
Review 32:Lovely building, log fires, friendly staff, good food and service
Review 33:Spa times say 7-10pm but didn't mention couldn't use between certain times due to swimming lessons so we would of done things differently had we known,Very strong smell from spa bit unpleasant.
Review 34:Great Views/Location Staff were friendly and gave us some great ideas for walking
Review 35:Room 6. Above a private dining room. Very noisy guests. Spoiled what had been a great day. This room not been re furbished yet.
Review 36:The hotel and staff were excellent, very welcoming. Would recommend but would not stay in room 6 again.
Review 37:Loved both the inside and outside of the hotel. Wonderful sea view and fab garden setting. The staff were so helpful and friendly with service to match
Review 38:The beds were creaky and uncomfortable. I had asked for a twin room and disabled enabled but this was not facilitated although they promptly made the bed into a twin. They didn't ask if my stay was ok so I pointed out a few problems.
Review 39:Staff very friendly and food and service brilliant. Lovely decor and open fires.
Review 40:Wallpaper in room was peeling.
Review 41:We came here for a night away for my husbands birthday treat. He used to visit grange over sands as a child and had happy memories.
Review 42:everything was perfect, and we were very fortunate to have glorious weather. breakfast was all very nice, and pleasant staff helped to make it a nice experience each morning
Review 43:Room 31 has extractor or some other electrical machine buzzing outside its window
Review 44:Everything except our room. Staff great, food good, handled a big wedding very well.
Review 45:Sat on wrong table at breakfast by accident, which didn't go down well initially, but the views from breakfast made up for it
Review 46:Lovely hotel, the panelling and general ambiance is the best, really good breakfast and good house wines
Review 47:Ideally located for the town and both rail and road access it's a wonderful, warm and welcoming 'stately home' without the usual discomforts that description can sometimes imply. Excellent food and service, but wine prices rather high.
Review 48:Requested quiet room as our stay on another accassion we were over kitchen and bins. We were given a room over the function room with a dj on went to bed at 9.30 still having to listen to the dj at 12.the room was more like a box room rather than a guest room.only 1shower gel .breakfast i had told my husband how nice the breakfast was last time i visited the netherwood unfortunately our food was only luke warm not just the cooked breakfast also the porridge. I must sa though the quality of the food was very good.due to this being the 2nd time of visiting i feel i probably would.nt stay again which is a shame as we vusit grange many times in the winter .
Review 49:The hotel itself and grounds are beautifull.
Review 50:Isn't a complaint as such;but because of health issues and it being winter did find the public areas cold.Would have liked to stay in the lounge after breakfast for a while but fires not lit till later'
Review 51:Bedroom.food, ambiance,staff
Review 52:Absolutely perfect - nothing we did not like about it.
Review 53:The location and cleanliness were of a very high standard. Breakfast was also very very good. Would definitely go back and soon.
Review 54:our room was at the top of the hotel and rather tired and in need of decorating. It was almost like a spare room.
Review 55:We liked the character, proximity to grange center and the setting of the hotel. The breakfast was excellent with good service..
Review 56:No wifi but I was told that this was down to BT and there was no wifi in the whole of Grange over Sands
Review 57:The location is superb and with the real log fires and the comfort this is an ideal place for a winter break. I will definitely be going here again
Review 58:Staff were pleasent but looked totally miserable, some not particularly helpful.
Review 59:Lovely location, nice gym and small pool and enjoyable breakfast, but maybe a bit overpriced.
Review 60:My husband thought the portion size of the evening meal was small, although he enjoyed it.
Review 61:Beautiful building and grounds, staff pleasant and helpful.loved the wood panelling and log fires. breakfast excellent . will visit again.
Review 62:The hotel appeared to be tired and distressed in terms of decor. A great deal of potential there and some decorating was taking place. The first impression of hotel on approach was excellent but let down on approach to bedrooms. Wallpaper in bedroom 10 was ripped and scuffed, carpet stained. I was only there one night so saw past it which allowed me to enjoy the good parts. If staying more than this would not have been happy with room.
Review 63:I could not fault any of the staff who could not do enough to help, this was at reception, bar and dining room. I also left my Kindle behind and a quick telephone call solved this problem. I paid postage and it was forwarded on. HONESTY is priceless. The Bar Meal was excellent try the Garlic Bread, steak pie, large portion of what appeared to be home made pie pastry melted and plenty of meat to be found. Guinness was well priced, cold and travelled well. Barman was a character. Location was great overlooking the sea and gardens. Full English Breakfast was wholesome and tasty. Plenty of hot water and tea making facilities in room. Old fashioned manners clearly on display by staff which again appeared genuine.
Review 64:It was shabby, poor service. Staff at reception lacked interpersonal skills (when they were there.) Uncomfortable chairs in the lounge areas. Uninspiring food, chips smelt as though they'd been cooked in stale oil. "All fur coat and no knickers" as the saying goes.
Review 65:The spectacular building. The beautiful oak panelling. The staircases. Excellent gardens. Quiet. Good sleep.
Review 66:The rather musty smell of the bathroom. Room 5 We would like to have had dinner at the hotel but it was rather beyond our budget.
Review 67:The style of the hotel. Its informal atmosphere. The reasonably priced drinks. The excellent menu choice for breakfast. The health spa
Review 68:Bed sheet had what appeared to be a cigarette burn mark on it, bedroom wallpaper and bed sheets looked dated.
Review 69:Genuine welcome at reception, lovely views and architecture,
