Reviews for Caley Hall Hotel

Review 1:On arrival, the first impression we got was how well laid out and welcoming the hotel was: from the neat car park to the clear signage. This was further enhanced by the genuinely warm welcome we received on a cool January morning. After checking in, the same receptionist showed us around the hotel, explained how breakfast was served and where and then took us to our room. All other staff we met were equally professional and friendly and the whole atmosphere was of an easy-going, well-run, friendly establishment. The room my Mum and I shared had been recently refurbished and was superb. The furniture and furnishings were immaculate, with comfortable beds and delightful seaside touches. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent. Breakfast was a buffet, and the choice was superb: with the option of having your chosen daily paper too. You could even pay a tiny charge to have everything brought to your room. Staff were very flexible about where dinner was taken and we opted to eat in the bar, with a lovely woodburner in the background. Again the food was beautifully presented and just superb. The location of the hotel in the quiet and charming Old Hunstanton means that it is just a few minutes walk to the beach and also possible to walk into Hunstanton itself. Situated on the main road, it was easy to find and easy to access. I would highly recommend Caley Hall to anyone wishing to stay in the area. Please don't be put off by any listings or map references to "motel": this is anything but! It really is a fantastic place to stay if you are looking for a relaxing break, in delightful, comfortable surroundings with every attention to detail thought of on your behalf by a caring staff.

Review 2:Friendly welcome and clean, comfortable room. Dog friendly hotel which is great and charge for dogs not excessive as it can be at some places. Hotel atmosphere relaxed and easy. Great location for walk to beach before excellent breakfast.

Review 3:Their positive attitude towards young children and their willingness to please their customers. The bedrooms were cosy and the public areas very relaxed.Just a short walk to the wild but beautiful beaches of north Norfolk.

Review 4:Drinks splashes adjacent to drinks making area...requires a re think. Strange mechanical noises from room above.

Review 5:Size of rooms, comfort, ideal for Norfolk coast, nice food, friendly staff.

Review 6:Immaculately refurbished, clean, quiet room (no.3) with free, functioning wi-fi. Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast spread and evening meal - the best and largest battered cod we've ever had! A faultless experience. Would thoroughly recommend.

Review 7:Bar food and drink was quite pricy. Mains were delicious but desserts not as good. Minor annoyance - waitress saying "we" when she means "you" as in "are we ready to order?". Didn't get it when I said we were but I didn't know about her! No wifi in bedrooms.

Review 8:Spacious room, tasteful decor. Understated, tasteful feel to bar. Plenty of comfortable sofas to relax in bar.

Review 9:The hotel area is run down. It took three changes of room to find one that didn't have major problems (toilet which wouldn't stop running; skylight leaking water next to bed.) And when I complained, the guy at reception wasn't keen at first to move me until I insisted. I almost left the hotel to find a different place to stay! Each room is furnished cheaply, so bed isn't comfortable nor chairs, etc. Cracks in walls and tiles make me wonder if their maintenance hasn't kept up the pace.

Review 10:The pub and cafe area were nice, cutely furnished and comfortable. Served very good food by friendly &helpful staff.

Review 11:Not a bad thing to say!

Review 12:We couldn't fault any part of our stay. The room was sparkly clean and very sizeable. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and polite, we were even walked to our room by the gentleman on reception. The food was also to a high standard, and the bar was reasonably priced. We took Scooby our collie cross dog with us as well and they were very welcoming to him too.

Review 13:From ckeck in to check out all of the staff were very efficient and friendly. The food was first class, and the hotel was very clean in all areas. We are looking forward to visiting again ASAP.

Review 14:there were no failings at all. all excellent !

Review 15:the comfy bed, very clean room, quiet area locally, free parking, great food in the bar, nice and close to the beach, staff freiendly and helpful. the berakfast was just superb!

Review 16:Great location and good for public transport, lovely atmosphere. Fridge in room, good quality linen, quiet and nicely decorated room. Breakfast buffet of good standard Would come back without a doubt.

Review 17:We have always liked the hotel with its facilities, good food and friendly staff. It is not a chain hotel and the staff treat you as honoured guests of the family.

Review 18:Laminated wood room doors looked cheap - out of character with the rest of the decor.

Review 19:Every single member of staff was friendly and efficient - very impressed. Dog friendly but not at the expense of non- dog owners. Short walk to the beach.

Review 20:On my previous 2 stays I had lovely rooms. Unfortunately this time (room 17) was small and quite claustrophobic - they even had to put a skylight in to try and get a bit more light in. The bathroom was particularly pokey and such a contrast with my previous experiences. I will visit again but will request particular rooms.

Review 21:Wonderful location. Great staff. Excellent breakfast. Third time I've stayed.

Review 22:The fact we couldn't stay another night or two,

Review 23:Rooms clean and spacious. Little touches like the fudge and miniature cookies with coffee. Very comfortable,

Review 24:No wi-fi in room

Review 25:Beautiful comfy room. Breakfast was lovely & lovely friendly staff. I was on my own with my 2 year old & they were lovely with her.

Review 26:Nothing

Review 27:The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were quiet and comfortable. The hotel responded to my booking request for gluten free bread for breakfast and served me with it withput me having to ask on the first day. Food in the restaurant was excellent.

Review 28:Family room B1 needs an urgent refurb. Furniture is cheap pine. Very chintzy and old. Bathroom door didn't shut. Even the front door to the room was not very appealing. Plain brown with an 80's bronze lever latch handle. Water was too hot and taps were all separate. No mixers. So choice was either scalding or cold water. Shower a very basic affair in the bath. No wifi in the room. Doesn't have a TV room anywhere - not essential but nice if there are some sporting events on like rugby or f1. Based on the look and feel of the rest of the hotel the rooms are definitely not what I expected. They are not special at all.

Review 29:Great food. Staff very friendly. Made to feel very welcome.

Review 30:Bathroom could be redecorated.i.e.freshen up mastic and grout.the layout and design of the room was lovely.

Review 31:Lovely food,nice surroundings,helpful,friendly staff

Review 32:We were a little unfortunate to have one of the rooms which has not yet been upgraded although it was still lovely, the TV reception was really poor but we were offered a room change and every effort was made resolve and recompense us for this inconvenience, without being pressed. Thank-you!

Review 33:This is a lovely hotel in old farm buildings with the rooms forming clusters around courtyards furnished with good quality garden furniture. The public areas had recently been refurbished in a modern rustic style and the restaurant was stylish and served excellent food. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

Review 34:The staff were excellent always helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The evening meals were superb and the breakfasts were fantastic. The whole package is a delight.

Review 35:Room (19) very much in need of refurbishment, especially the bathroom.

Review 36:Quiet, spacious room with splendid super king size bed. Breakfast and evening meal very good.

Review 37:On one night, waited a long time to be served in restaurant - shortage of staff in kitchen. Problem was dealt with by manager.

Review 38:Wonderful location, 5 mins walk from spectacular Old Hunstanton beach. Attractive buildings, comfortable rooms, lots of outdoor space for relaxing. Good restaurant and bar areas, free wi-fi.

Review 39:the only fault I have with hotel is our room had a very strong dog smell .would liked to have been offered a room where dogs hadn't been in .

Review 40:really ice hotel ,food was lovely and staff very helpful and friendly .

Review 41:Don't drive to the golf club at Brancaster when the tide is in!!

Review 42:Staff and general attitude of all at hotel was good. Understanding of my disaster was appreciated and leaving early was understood.

Review 43:The only down side was the fact that there was no real garden. There were outdoor areas for seating and plenty of shrubbery, but no laid out garden.

Review 44:The room was fantastic and very well appointed.

Review 45:No local beers in the bar which was a shame. Bedroom was brightly lit from an outside light at night.

Review 46:Decor of the public areas, fresh and comfortable. Food in the restaurant excellent and good value.

Review 47:The bathroom, whilst attractive, was a triumph of design over function; the wash basin was next to useless, being small, shallow and perched on a needless cabinet which flooded with splashed water at every use. The hot supply was scalding. The 'high tech' bath plug had been broken, rendering the bath unusable (repaired after complaint next day). Service in the restaurant was slow, even though not busy, taking 2 hours for a meal from a special fixed menu. The starter took nearly 40 minutes from order. Staff would leave us for up to 20 minutes before taking further orders, seemingly preferring to chat amongst themselves with little interest in customers. Training seemed lacking. Chilled white wine was left with no cooler. Coffee was provided before dessert even though it had been requested to follow. Too many deficiencies to list. Wine is very expensive and poor value.

Review 48:Good location for access to nature reserves. Plenty of parking. Quiet. Nice ambience throughout all the facilities.

Review 49:We have already stayed here a couple of times and will definitely go again. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is fit for a king!

Review 50:My daughter, 15mth. granddaughter and I were shared a room, which was spacious and relatively newly decorated, (though smelt a little damp). The staff in all departments could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Pleasant little outdoor court yards - beautifully planted.

Review 51:Apparently some of the rooms have already been re furbished and we think ours hadn't been done at present. We understand this but it is worth bearing this in mind to avoid disappointment. It was clean and done out ok but had the traditional 70's door and the bathroom needed refreshing tiles etc.. but looking at the rest of the facilities I'm sure they will get around to it when they can and it will be fabulous.

Review 52:The staff were exceptionally friendly and efficient. The main hotel facilities were really well done especially the bar lounge with comfy seats and traditional decor with a modern twist. The food was unbelievably good including the breakfast. Being only 5/10 min walk from the beach was a bonus. Ideally situated.

Review 53:We stayed in 27 and our sleep was disturbed by a noise every few minutes by what we think was a condenser so would not want to stay in that room again

Review 54:Really enjoyed our stay will return for another visit

Review 55:No Wifi or mobile signal. Only a few tables in bar and not very busy there or in main restaurant. Walked down to a local bar for a drink, which was livelier. Hotel rack rates seem high, but better value when on offer.

Review 56:Complimentary room upgrade. Comfortable room and quiet night's sleep. Breakfast and supper both good. Easy walk to beach from hotel.

Review 57:Don't be fooled by the nice picture of the hall. The rooms are outside in revamped barns. Cold damp room with bugs.

Review 58:Nothing, wel we did get a little refund but not worth it.

Review 59:spacious room ordering meal in a relaxing manner breakfast and evening meal we left an item at the hotel which they returned to us promptly by post

Review 60:The welcome by the shift manager was excellent, the attention of the staff excellent, we were late to dine and the kitchen was due to close but we had a fantastic dinner, easily of the quality i would expect from a michelin star establishment in London, and someone stayed and waited in case we wanted dessert ! Breakfast was actually the best i have had in any hotel! and this includes my regular business stays in London Trafalgar, Mayfair and the Savoy ! absolutely superb and quite unexpected for the price and location! we will definately use again.

Review 61:We had a wonderful stay at Caley Hall Hotel. The welcome by the staff was exceptional and each member of staff was pleasant, helpful and were able to answer our questions professionally. The accommodation was top rate and clean. The food was delicious and well presented and the breakfast was the best that I had experienced in any hotel. We will be recommending Caley Hall and I will be returning in the near future for a mini break. This hotel is dog friendly and you are not penalised for bringing your four legged friend as is the case in some hotels.

Review 62:Our room, although attractive, was rather cramped. And for somebody over 6', like myself, the low hanging chandelier was a real menace, I twice severely cracked my head, drawing blood. Nor was I impressed by the manager's (?) lack of real concern when I mentioned the need to do something about it.

Review 63:Excellent breakfast. Attractive buildings.

Review 64:Description states hotel but on arrival more motel. Acoustics in older unrefurbished room could hear TV ,voices from room above but not from adjoining GF room - the staff kindly addressed this issue and changed our room. Would ask for a refurbished room if available.

Review 65:Staff were friendly and obliging. The hotel was approx 5mins walk to the beach and lovely walk along beach to Holme etc. if you like walking. Reasonably priced accommodation although didn't eat in restaurant so cannot comment on food. Car park.

Review 66:No wi fi in room. Dinner overpriced for what it was. Better value down the road. Got a deal but not worth the full price

Review 67:Comfy bed. Good breakfast. A bit far away from anything. Got a deal

Review 68:Beautiful setting, close to beach and town. Caley Hall is a fantastic hotel especially if you are taking your dog. The staff are always friendly and efficient, you can even take the dog in to breakfast! Ten minutes walk to the beach then follow the shoreline into Hunstanton town. Perfect!

Review 69:We had room 6B and the weather was very hot, a fan was provided but but didnt make much difference to the room temperature.

Review 70:The friendleness of the staff.

Review 71:Too long waiting for food at dinner - not fault of waiting staff who were efficient and friendly.

Review 72:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good disabled access. Enjoyable food and drink. Pleasant surroundings.

Review 73:The only down side was that we had booked a family room and expected a double and a single bed and when we got there we had been given a king size bed with a "put me up bed" at the end, slightly disappointed as everything else was very good.

Review 74:We loved the location of Caley Hall for access to the beach, very pretty hotel, nice restaurant and excellent buffet breakfast.

Review 75:We found the bed a little uncomfortable. One of our party had no TV working in the room. The decor is dated and tired.

Review 76:We had an evening meal food was excellent and good choice on menu, a little on the pricey side but very well presented the food and plates were both hot. Very nice.

Review 77:Our shower was simply poor. The tiles at the bath end were mildewed. The shower curtain was mouldy along its bottom seam. We asked for a room transfer after the first of our 5 night stay but tis was impossible. We were in B7 and the shortcomings should have been evident before we raised them. We were given a £50 discount but we do not leave home to have to avoid a soiled shower curtain and stand under a very low pressure shower.

Review 78:Great location. Many areas recently renovated. Super staff in every way. Breakfast excellent. Evening meal good but "specials" should rotate, not be offered day after day.

Review 79:Could not check in until 1 hour after the advertised time. Spent an hour in the bar would have expected a complimentary coffee .

Review 80:Breakfast was excellent cleaning staff very friendly.

Review 81:Lack of atmosphere - ok if you want somewhere quiet. No lawn or grounds to relax in. Rooms were fairly basic and comparable to a chain motel. Couldnt get wifi even in public areas.

Review 82:Excellent buffet breakfast - good quality bacon sausage mushrooms. Very dog friendly.

Review 83:Duvet on the bed was heavy and winter weight! Rooms are warm so lighter duvets are needed in the summer.

Review 84:Location, a nice walk to a quiet beach. Attentive staff, dedicated table at breakfast. Refurbished room.

Review 85:We had a family room and there was no room to even swing a cat. If there are any larger rooms, they should be given to families as a priority as it was hard to justify spending the amount of money on a room that was so small.

Review 86:The breakfast was great. The hotel was great. And we loved the short walk to the beach.

Review 87:Allowed to leave luggage in our room even though we were too early to check in and room wasn't ready Fab atmoshere in the hotel well decorated felt very homely

Review 88:My girlfriend and I visited for one night, for the price of £125 per night including breakfast we expected a fairly luxury room. Instead we were placed in an outdated room that you'd expect to pay £50 per night.

Review 89:The waiting time in the restaurant was very long (due to shortage of staff) but when the food did arrive it was worth the wait.

Review 90:The hotel was very nicely laid out, very unusual. Room was very big and bright.

Review 91:The bar prices were well above the average for Norfolk. Whilst I appreciate the location & the standard of Hotel I feel that guests would frequent the bar for longer periods if prices were closer to average. This was demonstrated clearly on our two evenings when we shared the bar with 2 -4 other guests.

Review 92:All of the above scores sum up our experience

Review 93:Steep stairs to room - not a problem for us but not mentioned in advance either, so those less able could have a problem.

Review 94:Comfort and help in getting away from routine

Review 95:Bathroom in poor state. Grouting dirty needs updating. Not best value in area Was last resort as others were booked up

Review 96:Friendly staff good location. Liked that we could have one night only option at weekend- that's where it beat other locations in the area. Dinner was very good.

Review 97:We had a family room, with two fold out beds for our young teens, 14 and 16 years. Our large bed was very comfortable, but the fold out beds just were not comfy. The first night my son slept on the bed that was missing slats! I thought he was making a fuss about the comfort of the bed, until I looked. The problem was dealt with promptly, and he was also given an extra mattress, which did make the bed comfier. My daughter was a bit envious, and used extra towels and bed toppers to stop her feeling the slats through the mattress. I would point out that she is a size 6-8 dress size, so not overly heavy!

Review 98:The hotel was newly refurbished, the rooms beautifully decorated, and the restaurant and bar areas a pleasure to visit. Staff all very friendly and helpful

Review 99:We liked the relaxed atmosphere and spacious surroundings. Also close proximity to Coast and pretty village. The Church Flower Festival and Fete were an unexpected added attraction.

Review 100:The walls were somewhat thin. Not only did we know when our neighbours went to the loo, we were woken early by their dogs barking.

Review 101:Very pet-friendly, smart, clean and the breakfast was fabulous.

Review 102:On booking it stated their was fridge in the room, but there wasn't. Room not made up till afternoon when contacted reception who told me housekeeping very busy no apologise. Not many choices that we liked on the evening food menu

Review 103:location good, waiting staff friendly, Breakfast Buffet excellent.

Review 104:Bathroom. Black mould on tiles behind bath taps, broken tile in same area, water collected on tiles behind taps when showering,as tiles were lower than the run off. Full length mirror across the bath room opposite the toilet???? Very poorly placed toilet roll holder, above and behind your head when using the toilet. Many marks to paintwork on the bedroom walls. Used breakfast plates not cleared away whistle still at the table.after 10 minutes Should not have to ask

Review 105:Bathroom had some mould Tea/coffee supplied but no milk also no soap in bathroom No wifi in rooms and not totally stable in main hotel except in bar area lack of cheaper food options on main menu

Review 106:Staff brilliant.....helpfull and friendly Location.....to beach, town etc Dog friendly Good sized rooms Excellent breakfasts

Review 107:No wifi in bedroom

Review 108:Room good (especially as free upgrade) Good service Restaurant -excellent food at a very reasonable price . Standard would not go amiss in many so called a la carte restaurants

Review 109:everything was first class, lovely hotel we had perfect food for breakfast and evening meals , all staff were very friendly and helpful at all times .

Review 110:we were in B8 and found the bath too be on the narrow side, and the shower could be improved, but thats the only downside for us. but did not spoil our stay, thank you.

Review 111:Spoke to manager about sink design as it slashed over and they agreed that they need changing

Review 112:New decor , location, quiet no kids! Would recommend adults only

Review 113:The heated towel rail really very hot but needed it on to dry beach towels etc

Review 114:Family room large enough for three adults. Good bathroom. Breakfast was fine

Review 115:Dogs are welcome and I am not a dog person.

Review 116:The food was excellent and the room was very comfortable. The location was away from the main road so it was very quiet. There was plenty of parking in the hotel grounds.

Review 117:Wifi was a problem for us being only accessible in public areas. Would like to see the wifi extended to rooms.

Review 118:The location is perfect. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 119:The bar was a lovely environment to sit and relax, but the drinks were very expensive and over priced.

Review 120:Good location, lovely decor with friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable rooms with contemporary decor. Food was very good.

Review 121:Thought the bar was over priced. And the choice beers was very poor.carling & lpa smooth cheap beers.could do better with more options and better prices.£8.80 for a gnt & lpa smooth!!so we walked up the road where the drinks are cheaper.also it's a lovely spot for food as well.

Review 122:THE location brought back some happy memories for me.

Review 123:The room got very hot and the aircon unit couldn't really cope. Wifi reception wasn't great, as in most of this part of Norfolk!

Review 124:The hotel was comfortable, with good-sized rooms, good outdoor seating areas, spotlessly clean and with an excellent restaurant. Breakfast choices were good. It was close to the beach and within easy reach of all coastal areas and other attractions.

Review 125:Great old building that is much bigger than you would think from the pictures. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We was very impressed with the food from the restaurant. Overall this is a very relaxing place to stay.

Review 126:The mobile air conditioning unit didn't work. Poor

Review 127:Very friendly staff welcomed us on arrival. The room and bathroom were spacious and the bed was comfortable. We really enjoyed the the ample breakfast which was served in a vey spacious and pleasant dining room. Lovely outdoor seating areas.

Review 128:Although the bedroom was quite spacious and clean, the bathroom was in serious need of refurbishing - mould on tile grouting etc. We understand that a program of refurb is ongoing, but that room disappointed us.

Review 129:Both evening meal and buffet breakfast were excellent - we appreciated how they managed to maintain a "just prepared" freshness in the warm buffet.
