Reviews for Salthouse Harbour Hotel
Review 1:Twice, power cut out (breakers) with only a laptop and iPad charging. This also happened on my last visit, so more than a coincidence.
Review 2:Location; restaurant, room styles
Review 3:It may seem petty but better tea & coffee choices in the room .
Review 4:The hotel was clean & pleasing to the eye ,also very comfortable, the staff were friendly . The location is fab with lots of places to eat & drink on the doorstep ! Will return.
Review 5:We always eat at the hotel restaurant , which is always excellent , but on this visit we had a table for four as we meet friends at 8.15 , two main courses we ordered , you didn't have , and the food we did have , was sadly not that great , hopefully just a off night .
Review 6:We love this hotel and visit often .great hotel lovely staff good service
Review 7:When we checked into our room, the room wasn't to our liking. Spoke to the concierge about a change of room, the lady was very helpful. The staff moved us into a more suitable room. The restaurant was nice. Next time, I'll book for the copper bath room
Review 8:Some areas are in need to re-decoration and are looking tired. Service can be slow in the restaurant.
Review 9:Great boutique style hotel. Lovely room with a view over the Quay. Friendly staff. Would stay again.
Review 10:Not a bad experience but I found the state of the decoration in the room to look very tired. Worn out paintwork around the room and bathroom tiles in need of a good clean at the bottom.
Review 11:Restaurant was very good.
Review 12:Only recommendation would be firmer pillows but that's as I like them firm
Review 13:Great location , great food and great wine list . Attentive staff and well thought rooms
Review 14:Location comfort and general ambience of Hotel. We have stayed many times and although we have stayed in other nearby hotels find the Salthouse suits our needs
Review 15:Not the fault of the hotel, but there were missing sections of street lighting on route to the town centre-given dark evenings in late Oct..
Review 16:First class accommodation for boutique hotel located on side of modern marina. Quirky decorations and lighting. Service at breakfast one of the best experiences ever.
Review 17:Nothing really negative, but just a little too self-consciously 'boutique' where simpler would have been better.
Review 18:Nicely done, with a feel of solid good service all round.
Review 19:Shower flooded the bathroom and there was nowhere to put personal bits in bathroom. Looked lovely but wasn't practical.
Review 20:Lots of character and interesting decor. Attentive staff, especially the valet/porter.
Review 21:It's hard to choose anything that wasn't excellent, but if we have to: - we'd say the balcony window & glass could be cleaner. On the expensive side for one night, but unique and luxurious with excellent customer service - we will definitely return.
Review 22:Excellent customer service. Excellent comfort. Fabulous decor. Oozing style. Luxurious temple spa toiletries.
Review 23:Poor sound insulation to windows, disturbed two nights by people congregating at seat outside hotel front at 1:00 am, but staff sorted quickly when asked. No grab rail by bath. No dressing gowns, but supplied when requested. No safe, no fridge. Confusing two course price in restaurant (does not include dessert!). Having said all this we liked our stay there such that we would return.
Review 24:View over Marina (I'm not sure we'd stay without the view). Room great, Staff excellent at all levels. Good choice of nearby restaurants as well as one in hotel. Food v good. Best choice in Ipswich we felt.
Review 25:No bar lounge to sit and relax. Seating at front got very full with people waiting for table for dinner and people just trying to relax
Review 26:great position on mariner. Fantastic room with x large bed
Review 27:One tiny annoying hotel design fault which seems to exist all over is that there is never anywhere to put wash bags in the bathroom except on the floor!
Review 28:Well trained and helpful, friendly staff. Very comfortable, large rooms.
Review 29:Lack of dining space,(we did ok outside), so our weekend was good.
Review 30:The ambience of the place, the pleasant staff, the room and ensuite facilities, and general décor.
Review 31:Everything. We loved our stay, the staff were attentive, there was nothing they wouldn't do. Dinner in the restaurant was divine and again service impeccable. We took friends for a special birthday and I am so glad we did... They loved every minute of their stay, including the welcome Birthday Card that greeted them upon arrival. We will definitely be back and this time may be with a night planned out in Ipswich
Review 32:Rooms are dated, staff unbelievably rude. Had two rooms booked for the friday night for bridesmaids and a bride to get ready- requested months ahead rooms next to each other for purpose of the photographer which they was unable to do which was annoying especially after they had promised to do so. The staff's attitude was so bad it actually made the bride cry on the morning of her wedding. We also had the penthouse booked for the wedding night but they seemed very unflexible and out right rude on such a special occasion. Rooms were very dark, the tv didnt work and most lamps didnt work. Very over priced for what you get. Car park is ridiculously small and tight.
Review 33:The location of the hotel is great.
Review 34:Absolutely love everything about this delightful hotel and enjoy all aspects from charming and professional staff to the eclectic decor. Have stayed on several occasions and will eagerly anticipate the next visit. Amazing food is also appreciated. Thank you
Review 35:poor lighting in bedroom rather limited breakfast ie no variation of fresh fruit and no glutenfree bread or redbush tea.
Review 36:very pleasant location , good base for exploring Suffolk - friendly efficient staff.
Review 37:Not good coffee at breakfast, but when we asked for espresso/cappuccino, that was brought at no extra charge. Noisy at night - had to shut the windows in order to sleep - people talking outside
Review 38:Helpful, friendly staff; beautiful waterfront location
Review 39:my partner didn't like that it was two single bed pushed together.
Review 40:I loved the bed, the power shower was excellent and nice views over the harbour. The furniture was lovley and the décor was beautiful. The room service sandwiches were exquisite despite the high price; they were worth it.
Review 41:Room quite warm with only fan available when balcony door shut. Bed and pillows too soft.
Review 42:Location was perfect. On waterfront near eateries and town Centre. Nice view of waterfront although room situated on side of hotel.
Review 43:very slow service in the bar. it wasn't busy at the time. Food in the restuarant was mediocre at best
Review 44:Excellent service on arrival staff helping move luggage from the care park could not have been more helpful.
Review 45:Loved everything about it. Paulo, the Porter/ Waiter/ Valet Parker etc went beyond the extra mile to make our visit just perfect. Searched for suitable restaurant for us and made booking. he couldnt do enough for us.
Review 46:Having booked via booking.com a bit disappointed for not, at least, including continental breakfast in the room price.
Review 47:Enjoyed the comfortable room with view over the Marina.
Review 48:Our room overlooked Isaacs bar. With a wedding party happening there it was rather noisy when the windows were open. So we suffered being too hot for the sake of peace. ( think this room was hot as it had low ceilings as well). If we ever stayed again we'd want a higher ceiling as it felt a bit claustrophobic.
Review 49:We liked the modern decor together with the comfy bed and excellent shower. Tasty, really good quality breakfast.
Review 50:A tad overpriced for the town. There's not much going on in Ipswich, shopping is lame and entertainment is scant, limited for quality bars & restuarants. However, we'd visited the Suffolk Show and had a wonderful day, staying at the Salt House Hotel was the perfect end to the day. A stroll in the sun around the docks was lovely the next morning too.
Review 51:The staff stood out as the best feature of this hotel, friendly, professional and polite. Food was excellent, room was comfy & spacious (although our view was the car park- other views were of the boats in dock, very lovely). Gorgeous bathroom and contemporary decor throughout.
Review 52:Stylish, artistic designer interiors combined with contemporary architecture and top quality fixtures and fittings. Delightful staff with bright positive attitude and a genuine understanding of customer service
Review 53:I feel the price of the room should have included breakfast. Messing about with a cafeteria was a bit awkward.
Review 54:Comfy clean room. Good hair dryer. Parking attendants very skilled.
Review 55:When we arrived ( quite late as we were leaving our wedding reception) it took a bit of time to get aclimatised to where we were supposed to be, that being said the night porter was a credit to the hotel. The room was spacious but having stated it was for our first wedding night it would have been nicer to have a room for a view. The champagne that had been left was lovely but the ice had melted by the time we'd checked in. Consequently in the morning when the shower was used the rubber seals slightly leaked water onto the bath room floor not much but its the little details here Overall we loved our stay but it was little things like lifts being out of order... And other little things that maybe others wouldnt pay attention to but for us would have made things extra special
Review 56:We loved the general decor, the atmosphere.
Review 57:nothing except maybe the "eclectic" decor of the ground floor. Too many styles in one area! would benefit from a visual clean up. Can't tell if it's a Moroccan, Russian or medieval inspiration.
Review 58:The corner room (106) overlooking the marina. Greta breakfast.
Review 59:disappointed breakfast not included but great café at the back of hotel serving lovely cooked breakfast for £2.95 where as hotel was charging £11
Review 60:hotel is lovely this is our second visit just for a break with friends
Review 61:This was our first time to Ipswich and therefore Salthouse Harbour Hotel and wish we had longer there. The staff were very attentive; the room spotless and stylishly decorated (we stayed in a Sail Loft Marina room, but I also looked at all other options which were equally beautiful); the menu creative and well executed. All made for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Review 62:Breakfast is average, background music much too intrusive at breakfast, breakfast staff not totally professional.Breakfast 50%
Review 63:Excellent Reception staff and parking attendants. Very nice room, lovely bathroom (but not quite practical). Very clean. Well soundproofed. Room and Reception 99%
Review 64:Restaurant, service poor, no wine list offered or water for the table. Bill was completely incorrect with many items included were not ours. When pointed out staff said a revised bill could not be issued and we would only be charged for what we ordered, this was taken up with management.
Review 65:Friendly inviting hotel. Staff helpful.
Review 66:Sometimes it can be noisy due to the bar next door
Review 67:The manager and porter are very attentive The beds are amazingly comfortable The food is very good A very pleasant hotel experience
Review 68:The nose from outside was horrible. The side and front facing windows need tripple glazing from Anglia Windows. My husband wanted a dressing gown. Base from next door building kept us awake until 1am. Air con was noisy.
Review 69:The breakfast tasted amazing Egg Flortine and Egg Benedict. Room decoration was beautiful. Liked the old brick work next to new. Art and sculptures were breath taking. Excelent filter coffee and filter coffee pourer. Great free parking. Very clean quiet door which was fantastic. Car park staff very helpful.
Review 70:The room we had was next to a cleaning cupboard so we were woken early by the staff that left the door to slam shut when they were cleaning out the rooms the following morning, very disruptive.
Review 71:I liked the restaurant and the location of the hotel.
Review 72:Staff were really friendly and helpful, the car park was full so my car was parked for me in the overflow car park. The room was beautiful and the bath was huge! Was a really nice weekend away!
Review 73:Nothing to fault! It is expensive but it is worth it if its for a nice occasion.
Review 74:Gorgeous hotel, lovely location! So happy we chose this hotel and we will 100% be returning! Really well looked after, the staff are brilliant which is very rare nowadays, they took our car as soon as we arrived which was great so we didn't have to worry about parking. The room was amazing and very comfortable. We have a really lovely time!
Review 75:The price was too high for the room and then they charged extra for breakfast!
Review 76:Breakfast in the room and the lounge was very pleasant - view over the marina was great
Review 77:Loved all of it.
Review 78:We have stayed here 3 times now at different times through out the year, it is outstanding in all aspects from cleanliness, service, friendliness & we have always left wanting to return again. A beautiful quirky hotel in a lovely riverside location will be returning again later in the year.
Review 79:Very friendly staff, very clean and fresh. Really enjoyed our stay and will be returning, the ultra modern window to the bathroom made the room feel a bit odd though but not a real minus point just interesting.. Lots of nice touches made our stay a real pleasure.
Review 80:Nothing - apart from the weather!
Review 81:Friendly helpful staff, had two meals in the restaurant, food & service was faultless. Wouldn't stay anywhere else if returning to the area.
Review 82:I liked everything.
Review 83:Fabulous location right on the water. Great views from the restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Large room. Currently part way through a re-furb. so will be even better soon. Parking. Amazing breakfast.
Review 84:Breakfast should be included. Have bèen coming to the Salthouse for many years even before it was extended and this was the first time it was separate. Why?
Review 85:The location is excellent. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. The meals àre a credit to the chef. The staff are very helpful.
Review 86:Was expecting something more luxourious with regards to the cost of the room and the food. Have stayed in better hotels for less money. Tiles in the bathroom were cracked, flies in the room.
Review 87:Clean room and interesting decor.
Review 88:Seems a bit picky, but having to ask for cornflakes before a cooked breakfast seems out of kilter with a top class hotel.
Review 89:Extremely comfortable bed and immaculate bathroom. Very clean and well run hotel with friendly and unobtrusive staff
Review 90:The lighting in the bedroom was a little low
Review 91:All the rooms are large and ultra modern. We had a fantastic room overlooking the harbour but even the interior rooms are spectacular. Nothing like its sister hotel The Angel in Bury St Edmunds which made our stay even more unique
Review 92:Not the cheapest place but worth it for a night of luxury. Staff were attentive and the room was fabulous. The view was stunning and we ate just next door.
Review 93:Apart from no atmosphere on New years eve the £35 a head food overrated, over priced and far too small portions. .Bedroom 303 was very plain ..definitely not boutique! Thinnest Pillows ever. uncomfortable bed ... walls and ceiling so thin we could hear all around us in their rooms... resta
Review 94:Politeness of staff
Review 95:The hotel was modern well designed and trendy.the staff were helpful and friendly. We upgraded to harbour view with freestanding copper bath.large room .excellent shower room .powerful shower .good view of harbour .very clean .one of the best rooms I've stayed in.
Review 96:I did not like having a 'room' like a grotto! The television was larger than the windows, AND not in the right place. There was no privacy in the bathroom, ever heard of one way glass? There was no fridge, make-up mirror or spyhole.......... The music in the downstairs area was too loud and not enjoyable. Sorry but it was not a good experience.
Review 97:Not much though the food was good!
Review 98:No baked beans or sauces with breakfast (otherhalf).
Review 99:The room was excellent, the view was overlooking the quayside. The bathroom was very modern n laid out very well. The breakfast in morning was very nice as it was made from locally sourced ingredients. All in all a very nice hotel, we would be very interested in staying again n also recommending it to our friends.
Review 100:The bed was surprisingly hard to such an extent that over the two nights of our stay, we both had trouble sleeping!! As my first priority in a hotel is a good night sleep I probably would not stay here again.
Review 101:Everything about the hotel was excellent other than the very hard bed and the staff could not have been more helpful. Location is outstanding as it is just a short walk from the centre of the town. We did not eat dinner but the hot breakfast was very good and cooked to order
Review 102:Upon arrival the receptionist was extremely rude and arrogant, seemed like she was looking down at me. The double bed in our room was infact two single beds pushed together, the car park has very limited space for the size of the hotel the car park isn't sized up at all in all value for money is poor. And we for sure won't be staying again.
Review 103:I liked the bathroom in our room and the porter who greeted us in the car park who carried the bags to our room.
Review 104:Small detail, shower curtain stained with mildew in otherwise spotless bathroom.
Review 105:Comfortable polished hotel, restaurant good, cafes nearby for breakfast if you don't want to pay £11 at hotel. Nice view over marina.
Review 106:There was nothing to dislike!
Review 107:Everything! What a view from our room! The room itself was wonderful, and the little touches like the complimentary drinks within a few minutes of arrival, the little pack of sweets, the bottles of water, etc all made it even more special. The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was also gorgeous. We didn't want to leave!
Review 108:Bedroom a disappointment in size but had all we needed, bathroom good size and equipment. We knew we were facing the town before we arrived but it was just a carpark and terraces of new houses from a small window. Small area for drinking before and after dinner so we went out to a local pub. Expensive only because the room was small.
Review 109:Restaurant excellent but busy, male staff in restaurant v good, younger females not so attentive. Food excellent. Restaurant popular with locals we think and busy. Superb views from restaurant and the small lounge. Cars dealt with efficiently by staff and parked elsewhere.
Review 110:Food quality although presented well lacked quality and flavour, but was passable. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The floorboards above our room were so loud it was impossible to sleep if the guests above were up. The bathroom smelt of cigarette smoke presumably from the air vent. When raised with receptionist no compensation was offered.
Review 111:Stylish hotel
Review 112:The rooms didn't have a fridge. There is no air con so the window has to be kept open. Fell asleep with the music from the bar next door playing loudly. Woke at 5am and the music was still playing loudly. Could only shut it off by closing the window. Staff at reception checked us in without any conversation. Asked if it would be possible to have an early breakfast as we were leaving at 7.30 and breakfast was not until 8am. The response was 'NO'. Discovered when we went to our room we could have room service for breakfast from 7am. The food was way overpriced with meagre servings. Ordered the set menu for £32.50. Could have bought the entire portion of my meal for £10 from a high end supermarket. Asked for some bread to go with the meagre portion of smoked salmon for starter. The waiter responded with 'that will be extra'. Ordered a rib eye medium cooked. It came out so red, almost raw. Sent it back. It returned warm, but still red. Therefore my main meal was chips as that is all that was offered with the steak. The staff have no idea on customer service. Happy to argue their point to prove themselves right and the customer wrong. The staff, including and especially the managers need to go on a hospitality training workshop. The staff unfortunately let this hotel in this great location down however as there is no other decent place to stay in Ipswich, they have a captive market. We wont be returning and I doubt whether they would care.
Review 113:Superb location overlooking the harbour. Standard room was large Separate shower and bath
Review 114:That we only stayed one night.
Review 115:Location of the hotel is wonderful we arrived on a sunny October afternoon.warm welcome at reception, our room overlooked the harbour.lovely room and comfortable bed.we had cocktails followed by dinner in the hotel restaurant food was excellant, staff attentive.breakfast was a treat and all too quick our visit was over.will return and have already recommended it to friends.
Review 116:Great location (although a little hard to find), charming staff at the desk and in the dining room, good bed, warm towels, and fabulous bath amenities.
Review 117:Asked for a quiet room, got one on the side of the bar next door which was full of late night drinkers! Balcony floor was pretty disgusting although some decking had been put down. Taps in shower very difficult to turn, someone less agile could have scalded themselves trying to get the right water temperature.
Review 118:Good location for city centre, bars, restaurants etc and nice outlook overlooking the boat basin. Maybe a bit on the pricey side but bed very comfortable and free WiFi with no password etc needed very good and quick.
Review 119:Very disappointed to find that the staff had forgotten to put the bottle of Champagne in the Bride and Grooms room that had been ordered and paid for on their wedding night. Also the hotel did not even send a congratulations card to the couple or decorate the room- which we had to do ourselves. Although we did enjoy the location of the hotel I was very disappointed by the forgetfulness of the restaurant staff to bring us our full foods order- we had to remind them several times.
Review 120:I loved the views of the harbour and the welcome when we arrived by the staff. Our room was clean and comfortable but the bed was too hard.
Review 121:Only that we didn't stay longer!
Review 122:A fabulous quirky hotel with very friendly staff. Beautiful room with a gorgeous view and a lovely comfy bed! Would definately return to this hotel.
Review 123:The air conditioning ruined my nights sleep and has left my dozing all weekend to catch up. We were in room 510 an upgraded room and the was a constant running water noise from the air conditioning that kept us both awake. I got up at 2.20am convinced it was pouring with rain but it was the conditioning making the noise. we both left quite grumpy and tired. I didnt complain on leaving as there were other guests at reception. Hopefully this can be sorted because when paying the money i did for the room i expect better.
Review 124:The place was very nice, staff were helpful and the bar staff very friendly. Loved the quirkyness off the place
Review 125:Poor welcome at reception. Refused a table booking at 7-8. Insisted on 6 or 8-45. Sat eating in a half empty Resteraunt. Unsurprising overpriced and a poor choice
Review 126:Excellent Resteraunt staff
Review 127:A few plug and lack of shelf space in the bathroom but nothing that detracted from a very enjoyable stay.
Review 128:Excellent location on the marina. Friendly helpful staff and wonderfully designed, chic comfortable rooms. Loved the bath with a view out of the room over the waterfront. Excellent wi-fi and breakfast choices.
Review 129:Black mark was lack of aircon in room for this grade of hotel. - When window opened very noisy due bar next door.
Review 130:Location excellent overlooking marina, quirky décor, excellent staff, well presented rooms, very nice breakfast, but a little pricey compared to similar establishments.
Review 131:The way we were greeted by the female receptionist who looked us up and down (we did'nt have our Amani suits on) and the male receptionist that we asked, we haven't bath robes in the room, (even though they were in the details of the room) he did say he would look into it but they may be a charge, he never came back to us, so spoke to another receptionist who sorted it out strait away. So remember, when you arrive make sure you wear your best attire.
Review 132:The way the reasturant staff told us they were there to make our stay special, from ordering a coffee to having an evening meal (which both was excellent).
Review 133:Lack of air conditioning in room Very slow bar service and not enough room in lounge/bar area for size of hotel/number of guests..
Review 134:Location Afternoon tea Room décor
Review 135:Nothing! Everything was wonderful.
Review 136:The decor of the room, the view from the room and the stand alone bath! The restaurant was also excellent with good fast service and quality food. I would definately recommend this hotel, we stayed in the marina loft room.
Review 137:Asked for quiet room but got corner room on 1st floor. One side over lookin Issacs and other 2 windows overlooking front which included entertainment of man being attacked with broken bottle ( not hotels fault) but had we had room as requested would not have all additional noise. Breakfast staff not helpful as had to keep asking for items. After requesting additional toast we waited 20 minutes and then had to ask again. If you had a boat, BMW or Victoria Beckham handbag service was very efficient. I paid £140 to stay the night to see my friends marry. They had paid over £200 for their room and the hotels generosity was second to non. They provided the newly weds with a complementary small bottle of water and a box (size less than a cigarette box) of jelly sweets. Very impressive not! In fact the Newley wedded couple were treated appalling. What was supposed to be a wonderful start to their honeymoon was ruined by arrogant self important staff. It would not have hurt anyone to make their stay just a little special. This is the first ever review I have written but felt on this occasion after staying at numerous hotels this is definitely in the top 'Hotels not to stay'.
Review 138:Location of hotel was lovely. Overlooking marina. Room was tastefully furnished, clean and towels soft and white.
