Reviews for Abbot Hall Hotel
Review 1:Could stand to upgrade their Wi-Fi, but I guess it's not something their main target audience use that much.
Review 2:Convenient land peaceful ocation, Fantastic service (second to none), Decent breakfast included (Full English), Swimmingpool for late evening destressing, Wi-Fi (not fast, but it's there and free)
Review 3:No tv in room.
Review 4:Stayed in the bungalow and although not as nice as the main building we were made very comfortable. Excellent value for money. We had a shared bathroom but didn't have to share it. gutted no tv in room but staff set up a cosy romantic setting in the lounge for us to sit and watch film. Staff amazing. So friendly. Food lovely and again great value. Lovely looking pool but didn't end up using it.
Review 5:Nothing really. Only one small problem. Heating in cabin wasn't working when we arrived but central heating was quickly fixed by staff and worked fine. Gas fire wasn't working but didn't really matter as we were warm enough with central heating
Review 6:Friendly staff, excellent location and very good evening meal in the hotel Very pleased with log cabin and facilities Clean and well equipped Loved the swimming pool
Review 7:Internet! There's no internet or very bad internet connection in the room which makes it very inconvenience. Also the location is actually outside of Lake District, but quite ok if drive
Review 8:Friendly staff, good room, good full English breakfast and cold buffet. Very nice place to stay and relax
Review 9:The weather. But we made the most of the lodge with a rainy day playing board games.
Review 10:Due to the price we paid (110) for 2 adults 2 children and a dog for 2 nights ... we did not expect much. However, the lodge was warm, clean and inviting. We arrived to thw heating on and the beds made. Towels on beds and plenty of coffee tea and milk. We had a lovely break and felt refreshed for Christmas. Will definitely be back.
Review 11:Power cut and no backup generator. No cooked breakfast as promised. No tea or coffee. There should have been a gas bottle backup. Felt like I was in the way. 2 shared toilets and one shower for about 10 rooms. Emergency lighting went out and left us using mobile phones to go to toilet. Loud buzzing all night long from electricity panel (louder than a diesel car running). Insect bites on back from bed (3 bites) Not been contacted to offer a refund or money back.
Review 12:Lovely grounds. Swimming Pool.
Review 13:The hotel on the outside looked lovely, however the photos on the website are very decieving. We got to our rooms, which were supposed to be two double rooms and turned out to be one room with 3 single beds and one room with 2 single beds. They were horrendous. Not what we were expecting at all, and they were very poorly presented. We then found out the bathroom and toilet, which we were hoping to be on suite was actually shared between the whole corridor, and it was a bath! Not only were we given the wrong rooms, the keys were just left out on the side for us with no greeting from any staff, which yes not all hotels have 24 hour staff, but leaving the keys on the side isn't very professional. We could not stay at this hotel as we were disgusted. The part of the hotel where our rooms were was no longer part of the main building, it's as if they had put us in their shed. I wouldn't not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 14:The room allocated was a dump
Review 15:Once I had complained that the room I had been alocated was a dump the staff member imidiateley changed me too a better room
Review 16:We hated the rooms which were in the separate block (to the right of hotel) as they were disgusting. Massive cracks in the walls and the rooms were filthy. This is what we were put into following a mess up with our booking. There was also no apology from management over this so we were disappointed. We were happy when we moved into the log cabins though as these were lovely. Also in the breakfast room there were buckets collecting leaks everywhere, once we did get a table most of the staff didn't speak English and all we wanted was toast ....this took a while to come.
Review 17:We loved the log cabins they were comfortable and spacious and were much happier once we moved into these after the mess up with our booking.
Review 18:The room was VERY cold, if you sat in there you had to wear layers and under the blankets.
Review 19:The location and the grounds of the hotel. Very nice to look at, different enterances. Good food selection.
Review 20:The small Room was cold and dated with a large crack in the wall above one of the twin beds (we had booked a double room). The bathroom was also very dated with damp patches and mould on the wall. The shower was like a portaloo cubicle and took 10-15mins to get warm. We had also been told not to use the main bathroom light after 11pm as the fan would disturb other guests. Breakfast was limited to 8-9am and only average food.
Review 21:The room, the bed and the cold swimming pool and no shower, only at the pool
Review 22:Bed so bad could not sleep, told friends so they booked, was so bad room cold, no TV bed was so bad could not sleep, felt very upset, told them we always book with Booking.com and it's always be great, very good ?
Review 23:i did not like the bed room but it was very clean
Review 24:the pool the food and the people and we will be coming again thank for all your work god bless you all
Review 25:The only bad thing was we only booked for one night. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 26:Beautiful location, friendly staff, lovely spacious lodge, comfy beds and homely feel.
Review 27:Does what it says on the tin great heated pool food good value. Note range of rooms, some 1960 butlins others tv ensuite a few palacial. Main business is christian group holidays, all are made welcome. Mixing during meals encouraged.
Review 28:Bedroom, shared bathroom, a tad ordinary, but probably for the money acceptable. The breakfast really made up for it though!
Review 29:Fantastic breakfast, really nice lounges to sit in
Review 30:Could do a bit more to modernise the bathroom and bedroom of the bungalow, which appear quite outdated with the furniture and fittings.
Review 31:Breakfast is great, surrounding environment is beautiful and peaceful.
Review 32:Located on the shore at Kents Bank, adjacent to railway station. Welcome was warm and friendly. Staff were dedicated to attending to my needs. Location very quiet at night. Room and bed comfortable and welcoming. Full English breakfast very good - sausage and bacon excellent quality.
Review 33:Location of hotel is perfect - adjacent to railway station at Kents Bank. Main building and annexes filled with character, far removed from the tubular glass boxes of modern built hotels. Staff are very welcoming and eager to provide for all my needs. Breakfast covered the range of cereal, fruit, full English. Eggs were available fried or scrambled. The bacon and sausages were very good quality, and the mushrooms were fresh, not tinned. Grounds are extensive with plenty of seating for relaxing in the fresh air. I saw a squirrel among the trees at the bottom of the garden - quite unafraid by my presence.
Review 34:Bathroom and toilets were freezing and covered in spiders. General lack of attention in the out building we were in.
Review 35:Pool and breakfast were handy during stay. Staff were nice and friendly.
Review 36:the cleanliness of the bathroom and the clogged drain in the bath (hairs were all around the bath, that's desgusting!)
Review 37:lthe confort of the beds as well as the Full english Breakfast include in the price of the room.
Review 38:had booked a room online and the place looked great. Our flight arrived late into Manchester so it took us around 2 hours to get to there but if I would have realised the state of the accomodation earlier, I would have cancelled the booking or gone somewhere else but it was 10pm so we got through the night in a double bed which sagged in the middle in a room which smelt of mould but that was nothing compared to the shared bathroom which was extremely old and had mould on the walls. This place really needs to urgently be updated or modernised. The building we stayed in should be condemned.
Review 39:nothing
Review 40:It is not as it seems what u see on internet very misleading but can not complain on how much we paid I would of rather paid more money gor better room as we expected better room
Review 41:We loved the pool and staff where friendly
Review 42:Our room, was in the bungalow, which could be better described as a nissen hut with rooms and shared facilities. The separating walls are thin, and the door closers slam the doors at all hours.NEEDS DEMOLISHING.
Review 43:location,indoor pool, and food. The main house and shared rooms are comfortable and cared for. All the goods are in the house.
Review 44:If I had to pick one thing Carpet in bedroom could do with renewing but not a problem still brilliant room
Review 45:Had a problem needed more pillows and it was sorted out straight away staff brilliant and the breakfast was excellent
Review 46:none really, not when you consider the value for money.
Review 47:very good location, excellent swimming pool, lovely breakfast and very friendly staff.Parking and vies of Morcambe bay.
Review 48:The internal decoration within the bedroom and bathroom/toilets is dated and needs some renovation.
Review 49:I enjoyed the peace and quiet and the friendly staff and guests. The breakfasts were filling! The location is ideal for walking, travelling via the nearby railway station, or driving to interesting places.
Review 50:The accommodation was grubby, damp (I had a room with the shower in the tiny bedroom) without any heating.
Review 51:The staff, ALL the staff had excellent attitudes. They were friendly, helpful, thoughtful etc.
Review 52:Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. Room clean but basic and dated. Shared bathroom which was fine although we have never done that before. The pool looked lovely tho we didn't use it. Breakfast was excellent. Best of all was the price - £45 for two people for bed and breakfast. Amazing. Highly recommend.
Review 53:It was a Christian retreat essentially basic facilities reminded me of my youth hostellling days no TV in room stayed in bungalow not hotel none of this was made obvious in the on line information
Review 54:Location
Review 55:the room was shabby, the bathroom facilities were shabby, the plumbing archaic and noisy, the outdated furnishings and décor were depressing. the room smelled musty and "old".
Review 56:the breakfast was very good
Review 57:The rooms were a bit tiny and the fact that you had 2 toilet and 1 shower to share amount 8 rooms was a bit ruff. There was no TV in the room
Review 58:The swimming pool was great
Review 59:My room was a bit pokey. The hotel itself is isolated re:alternative places to eat and drink. Storage for my bicycle was poor despite being told there would be a secure place to store it.
Review 60:It was cheap, cheerful and functional. Good breakfast and good location for the train if you need it.
Review 61:In my view; the bungalow accommodation, is not fit for habitation and certainly does not make one feel that they are on holiday. Dilapidated, mouldy bathrooms to share with approximately twenty rooms, only four outdated toilets with spiders, shabby bedrooms, with threadbare carpets and broken furniture, horribly uncomfortable beds, springs digging in your back all night, back ache all the following day, not felt very secure, front door left unlocked at night, although supposed to be locked overnight, afraid to go to the toilet in the night, had to ask my husband to escort me for my safety. Maintenance painting in the rooms made the accommodation smell and cause a cough, pleased hotel management making an attempt at upgrading this dreadful bungalow accommodation, but I believe it will take a lot more than a few pots of paint!!!!!! Were advised by reception that breakfast was until 9.30 a.m, arrived at 9.05 a.m, no bacon, no toast, asked, but told too late.
Review 62:The hot chocolate and Horlicks.
Review 63:Bungalow room comfortable but the shared bathrooms and toilets very very basic and need to be modernised. Rooms need to be made en suite. Fire exit door needs to be fixed as it was very difficult to close properly
Review 64:Hotel and staff pleasant food good and hotel grounds lovely. Good value for money
Review 65:I had difficulty finding the hotel, and don't have a sat nav, so perhaps there could be fuller directions on the booking page. I asked for a quiet room, and was in the groom's house (room 34 I think), but right next to the top of a staircase and near a door into the main house. I would have liked to be further away from a thoroughfare as there was a lot of banging of doors.
Review 66:I liked the location once I had found the hotel; the swimming pool, which I used once, and the breakfast. The room was comfortable.
Review 67:We were put in the bungalow it was old smelt musty not clean at all the windows were covered in mould there were cracks in wall and ceiling we had to share the bathroom and toilet not very nice at all
Review 68:The location for the races at cartmel only 5 minutes away
Review 69:Rooms in the Bungalow could do with updating, however are perfectly servicable
Review 70:Staff were very competent , helpful and friendly Breakfast was brilliant and the available evening meal was great too Great Value for money overall The Pool was an added bonus Lovely grounds Free parking Boot and drying rooms, laundry facilities on site
Review 71:Rooms were not clean at all. there were spiders roaming on the ceiling of room and on bed.
Review 72:Hotel Reception and garden outside it was very beautiful. I liked the location of Abbot hotel very much
Review 73:Good breakfast but it was expensive. Shared bathrooms got busy at certain times. Decorations are a bit dated.
Review 74:Great location, friendly and helpful staff, good local information, nice swimming pool.
Review 75:wallpaper peeling off walls in rooms, windows didn't close completely, not very clean cobwebs.
Review 76:Breakfast was good but kept running out of different things so had to keep going back.
Review 77:The overall Christian character; the friendliness of the staff and other guests; the location overlooking Morecombe Bay; the extensive and attractive gardens; the facilities including the indoor swimming pool and the easy access to the rest of the Lake District.
Review 78:Single room was cramped. Decor was a trifle 'tired'.
Review 79:Staff were friendly and helpful Swimming pool was a big bonus. Quiet location Breakfast was excellent
Review 80:Pool was closed, fire drill at 9am without warning, cleaner kept walking in the room without warning and we got locked out without being told the doors locked at 11pm
Review 81:Most of the hotel was clean
Review 82:There was an awful small of stale urine in the en suite toilet attached to my room. I suspect it needs the lino taking up and cleansing with Dettol or similar
Review 83:Nice friendly helpful staff quite location , comfortable lounge, swimming pool was good fun
Review 84:facilities, especially our room and the bathroom, were in very bad shape and clearly neglected for a very long time location was slightly difficult to find
Review 85:people were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great
Review 86:Booked for a shared bathroom with our son,but the bathroom was some way down the corridor, thank goodness it was only for one night as my wife suffers from I.B.S. would not stay here again. P.S. It was confirmed by Email that we would have a shared bathroom.
Review 87:Pleasent staff clean,excellent breakfast
Review 88:Nothing at all
Review 89:Dirty & dated No wifi No TV in room Shared bathroom In middle of nowhere Staff over stretched & misrable /unhappy Never stay here again
Review 90:I didn't sit in any of the Lounges, I thought they were very uninviting and the sofas extremely dirty. Think an update of sofas, or loose covers that can be laundered would make a huge difference..
Review 91:I loved house and grounds. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable, but would be more private if there were fitted blinds. Ensuite was very good with good shower and plenty of hot water. Very quiet and peaceful at night, so good nights sleep. Lovely dining room and breakfast was extremely good, very helpful and attentive staff.
Review 92:The room had not be cleaned properly and there was a horrible smell in the room. Ranj went out for a walk because he could not stand it. It was as if they had run out of rooms and shoved Ranj in the annex.
Review 93:Comfortable bed, breakfast was ok. Lovely location, very remote and quiet. Get what you pay for.
Review 94:The room I was in was adequate for one night. The shower worked but I couldn't t stand under it as it was hanging off the wall. I was travelling with my dad who is in his 90,s and when he stood up after sitting on the bed, it moved. This happened several times. The light in his toilet room was extremely dim, and he couldn t see to shave. I would imagine that the rooms in the main part of the hotel are better. We were in the grooms cottage. Had I known there was a swimming pool, I would have brought my stuff, but I saw no mention of it on the website.
Review 95:Lovely breakfast, lovely grounds and location.
Review 96:I looked out onto a roof of another building, very narrow corridors to rooms, could be noisy when people walking passed.
Review 97:Nice clean em suite bathroom, some friends stayed in the annexe & had to use a communal toilet / bathroom.
Review 98:low pressure in cold water taps in dormitory building. I had difficulty finding the location without satnav
Review 99:The staff are extremely helpful, and keen to see that you have a pleasant time. The food is good and well presented. It is good to share tables and meet other guests in dining room.
Review 100:very noisy, unable to sleep as more a dormitory than a hotel. Toilets and bathrooms/showers shared, I did not know it was shared with 10 or more rooms! After 8 am the bathrooms were dirty dirty.
Review 101:Good location, if you have a car.
Review 102:the bungalow rooms desperately need refurbishment, headboards were all ripped with foam exposed, there were cracks in the window and needed a thorough clean
Review 103:beds were comfortable, swimming pool was lovely and warm, nice clean changing rooms
Review 104:the wifi wasnt that good so you got no signal at all when the wifi didnt work but apart from that nothing
Review 105:i took my 22 month old daughter with me and the pool was great for her it was open quiet late aswell, the staff was brilliant and friendly i couldnt fault them at all.
Review 106:The bed room was small for 2 people. Bathroom also is not that clean. The location and the surrounding is awesome.
Review 107:The location and the surrounding is awesome.
Review 108:The room was not very warm to sit in. and there was no way of warming it up.[The weather was unusually cold for the time of year].Two flights of stairs to access room. A lift would have been good to have.
Review 109:Excellent staff. It was our wedding anniversary and complimentary small boottles of wine were provided for us. Meals were very good, served in an attractive dining room.
Review 110:Menu was take it or leave it.We didnt want a full evening 3 coursemeal. The alternitive we were offered was biscuits and Mars bar.We are 3mile from the nearest town,on foot,no bus'S.Given this is achristian run hotel,it was a less than christian of themanagement, although the staff were as helpful as they could be
Review 111:Staff were good very friendly
Review 112:Stayed in "The Bungalow". Shared bathrooms full of mould and badly in need of upgrading. Dirty shower curtain and a rotten window sill.
Review 113:location
Review 114:Location of the town etc not really what you would call full on Lake District. Quite a way from decent walks in the hills and mountain biking. Few farm walks etc...
Review 115:Great breakfast and excellent value for money. Simple no frills but for £20 per night, well worth it.
Review 116:I think it's time for a spruce up with the Annexe we stayed in and specially nowadays there should be toilet facilities in every room and a good paint up and it needs new carpets
Review 117:Staff were friendly kind and the Hotel was a very interesting place to stay. The meals were very good served well and with manners. The swimming pool was excellent
Review 118:No TV in Bungalow Room. Walls extremely thin, could hear next rooms conversation. Sink taps in rooms very noisey, could hear evryone elses too. Very basic accommodation. people stomping down the corridors, including staff.
Review 119:Bed was comfortable.
Review 120:We booked one of the last rooms with shared bathroom and the room was a little bit depressing with very bad mattresses (you could feel the springs) and broken furniture. We had it very cheap so cannot complain too much but a little reform would definitively make it a little more attractive.
Review 121:Nice swimming pool
Review 122:asking for a disable lodge,as my husband is in a wheel, only to find that there was no walk in shower only a bath which he could not use, and the fact that there is no bar.you could get drinks ,in the cafe area,
Review 123:the lodges, the grounds, the history of the abbot
Review 124:The rooms in the Bungalow annex were of a very poor standard and would only describe them as a 1*. They were very basic, very old, falling apart, unclean with very thin walls and no TV. The bathroom was shared with around 8 other rooms and were horrible. Again they were very old, falling apart and unclean - there was at least warm water! I've stayed in far better hostels. If I was to book here again I would ensure I had a room in the main hotel. Oh, and it is a Christian Guild hotel, which I had absolutely no idea about! And very much an older generation clientele.
Review 125:The location, building itself and grounds are lovely, with a pitch and putt course and indoor swimming pool (although didn't have time to use either). There was a good variety at breakfast too.
Review 126:The location was perfect for what I did on my in my stay there. Everything that was requested at the hotel was honoured with great friendliness and kindness.
Review 127:The room was very tired, the lamps were not fixed properly and didn't feel safe and the 'kitchen-type' spot-light above the bed was too bright. We had disturbances from bottle disposing and early morning staff/?kitchen noises. The swimming arrangements weren't ideal for guests as there were children's swimming lessons, private lessons and a children's pool party going on. We had expected to use the pool more freely. We would stay again but not in the same room.
Review 128:The peaceful location. Staff very helpful and friendly although breakfast arrangements weren't really explained. The breakfast was amazing in quality and quantity.
Review 129:Staff were brilliant just left you to ypur own devices reception was very helpful and the cleaning lady was worth her weight in gold deffo go back thanks abbott hall for a well deserved relaxed weekend we wanted and got thanks
Review 130:Going to the communal bathroom in the morning to find 100's of flies in each of the cubicles and I'm the bathroom too. This was in the bungalow part of the hotel.
Review 131:Peaceful picturesque beautiful gardens and fantastic pool facilities
Review 132:Room was small and decor tired.
Review 133:Well kept grounds. Peaceful location. Room very clean. Bed/bedding soft and comfortable. Swimming pool a great asset.
Review 134:Would like to give to put something bad so its easy to book in the future, but can't.
Review 135:Accommodation excellent. Large Rooms. Large Kitchen Area/Lounge. Large Bedrooms. 1 Room Double Bed. 1 Room 2 Singles. Large Bathroom. Free Pool. View.
Review 136:The room I had was the smallest room ever. A single bed and bedside table and that was the width of the room. Breakfast started too late as I had to leave by 6.45 so no breakfast for me! And the pool opening hours could be extended
Review 137:The location
Review 138:The room could best be described as "dated". The shower cubicle resembled a plastic phone booth. Dinner was poor with my wife's mousaka being inedible.
Review 139:The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 140:We were quite shocked at how dirty the hotel was. On entering the awful smell hit you straight away. One of the rooms was really shabby the the mirror on the wall was very dirty. We could not wait to get out of the hotel!
Review 141:The location of the log cabins and the cleanliness of them.
