Reviews for Dinham Hall Hotel

Review 1:Closed on New years eve.

Review 2:We booked last minute and had a lovely room in the garden. It was super clean and David was really helpful and helped us look for a room for New years eve as they were closed.

Review 3:We couldn’t have been more disappointed with the breakfast on Saturday morning – it was hard to believe it came out of the same kitchen as our lovely dinner the previous evening. Where to start … at nine o’clock the orange juice jug was empty, and it took fifteen minutes and two requests for it to be refilled; the fresh fruit plate was also almost empty, and was not refilled. Vanilla in the prunes and apricots is a nice refinement; but the fruit was so hard as to be almost unchewable. My bacon was burnt, the white of the fried egg was tough and the yolk was solid, both black pudding and sausage were dry; my husband’s poached eggs were nicely done but sodden and reeking of vinegar – even across the table I was aware of it. The order in which breakfast arrived was both irregular and haphazard: some guests had breakfast but no toast; most had toast but no breakfast. Tastes differ, but I imagine most people would like to have tea and toast, both hot, at the same time; and is it unreasonable to expect that when toast is served the staff might notice there was no butter? On Sunday morning the service was similarly haphazard, but we chose better – how can you go wrong with smoked salmon and scrambled egg? Only by overcooking the egg, which was dry and grainy ...And I have a few housekeeping suggestions:• it is lovely to have bottled water in the room, and a choice of still and sparkling, but the arrangements for making hot drinks were a bit inconvenient – putting the tea, coffee, etc. in the same container might look tidy, but you have to empty the whole lot out somewhere each time to find what you want.

Review 4:Our dinner in the restaurant on Friday evening was excellent: the food and service were impeccable and the menu was very good value. (When I realised later that the serving staff had to traverse the breakfast room, the lounge, and the bar, with every plate of food they took through to the restaurant, the service also began to look heroic.) The hotel is very conveniently located for the centre of Ludlow and Ludlow Castle, and it is also very quiet. The hotel building is lovely; the public areas are very opulent, and the stairs were beautifully decorated for Christmas, though the bar was a bit small (and never attended – it felt a bit unorganised, our malt whiskies were served in brandy glasses). Our room (York) was nice and spacious, though it was a bit odd to access it down a narrow passage through a small door in the corner of the restaurant – our appearance beside them on Saturday evening gave two other diners quite a start! Tellingly, York is not one of the rooms featured on the hotel's website.

Review 5:We stayed in flower room which was quite a distance from hotel and it was raining - the only view we had from our window was a brick wall. The shower had hardly any power to it. We were asked to leave the room early - cleaner wanted to come in to our room at 11am and looked rather dismayed when we asked for another 5 mins. We thought we had the room till 12. 5 minutes later reception called us to make us aware check out was at 11. Also, 10% service charge was added to our bill which we were not expecting - we like to decide ourselves if we wish to leave a tip and what amount.

Review 6:Coziness, wonderful log fires and location

Review 7:Breakfast a bit disappointing. Staff quiet , cereals , yogurt and fruit choice poor for hotel of that standard .Cold plates for hot breakfast .

Review 8:The bedroom, the location .

Review 9:Friendly staff who were helpful. Breakfast was good quality and well presented. Room was very comfortable and quiet. Very convenient location with good parking.

Review 10:Unfortunately we were disturbed by a drunken resident attempting to get into the hotel at 2.45am. She was very loud and abusive and eventually had to be let in by another resident (night manager lived off-site). This disturbance was not the direct fault of the hotel but highlights the fact that good quality hotels are not immune from drunken louts and the situation could have been avoided if the night manager had been located on-site. Upon checking out no reduced tariff was offered.

Review 11:Very friendly staff and an excellent breakfast.

Review 12:Beautiful hotel in superb location, very quiet, genteel and relaxing, full of antique furniture ,comfy chairs and paintings.Lovely bedroom with views over the garden. The breakfast was excellent, especially the poached fruit! The staff were very helpful and let us leave our car in the car park for the whole day after checkout.

Review 13:Very pleasant and accommodating. Gave us the Garden Room to save me climbing the stairs. Cosy and comfortable. Tasty freshly cooked breakfast. What a change from Buffet under lights drying out.

Review 14:Wifi only in common rooms, but so it goes.

Review 15:Not a chain hotel! Typically English countryside hotel in old manor house-like building with nice garden. Very good parking possibilities. Very good taste common rooms like living room with big fireplace, corridors (see pictures), etc. without being over-decorated like so many b&b's. Possible that my room was a relatively simple one in 2nd floor, but still with all I needed (incl. 2 bottles free water) and with individual "real" furniture. 3 minutes walk to St. Laurence.

Review 16:Stayed in Flower room - great, would ask for this again, away from hotel like a secret hideaway. Some would hate it, we just loved it. Hotel is close to town , car parking available, room was warm, comfortable and clean.

Review 17:We were in the Clive room which is very small ,we think it is 1 room made into 2 rooms with a thin partition wall. For the price the bathroom was not up to standard

Review 18:Position in the town, handy for getting everywhere and parking.A lovely looking building in a lovely setting

Review 19:Did not see a lift for less able guests? Single beds in room 8 were quite narrow!

Review 20:Comfortable, friendly hotel good breakfast and central location. Room had 2 comfortable armchairs by a bay window with a lovely view!

Review 21:Room was a little cold, maybe the large windows did not help.

Review 22:Great location next to the Castle, so everything is a short walk away. We had the suite, very large room with windows on three sides. The evening meal was a good standard. Ludlow has many places to eat out. Excellent breakfast with a choice of cooked options. Would recommend the hotel

Review 23:Bathroom bit cramped, and tired.

Review 24:Central location, lovely views over the castle. Beautiful house, antique furniture and paintings. Room very comfortable, well presented. Free parking in grounds.

Review 25:Bathroom was little small and in need of some redecorating; would have benefitted from a quieter extractor fan.

Review 26:Fantastic location, helpful staff and lovely building.

Review 27:Warm, well appointed and cosy hotel, with comfortable rooms and public areas and very good food. Great location within a few mins of castle and town centre

Review 28:pity I was in the annexe whilst very good I had to come out after my evening meal and get to my room in the dark alone, Would have preferred to be in the main house but understand I booked fairly late

Review 29:the position, ambience and food plus lovely lounge and roaring fire

Review 30:My mother was cold in her room on the first night. But this was very quickly put right when we brought it to staff's attention.

Review 31:I liked the beautifully decorated room, in keeping with the Georgian building. I liked its 2 views, one of the castle, one of a Tudor / Georgian street. I liked the friendly, helpful staff and the in-house restaurant.

Review 32:Within minutes you are in the town. The hotel is tucked away, very quiet & off course parking for the whole stay & wifi if you need it. Breakfast very good, garden room in the annex perfect.

Review 33:Bit grubby in places in the room. Ancient dust (hair etc) easily seen under the grill on top of the bathroom radiator. Yeuk. Very dusty on the edges of the carpet all around the room with some debris (an old broken pen) in the corner by the dresser. The telly played up, pixellating the screen all the time, which was a bit of a shame as we were stuck in due to illness one afternoon. Wifi only in public areas (this is advertised), but was not working at breakfast.

Review 34:Location was great and free parking was a real bonus. Staff were friendly and most were very helpful. Clean bathroom, lovely towels. Fantastic view from Castle Room and room was toastie warm. Very individually decorated, with imagination and thought. Breakfast very tasty.

Review 35:No lift meant carrying heavy suitcases up flights of stairs but everything else was so nice this was worth it.

Review 36:Beautiful grounds, lovely quaint rooms and staff were friendly and helpful. Fabulous location - walking distance form town and had views of the castle from bedroom window. Free parking was available on site.

Review 37:If there was a washroom on level where the bar and breakfast room was I didn't find it. Which meant that guests would have to go back out to their garden room or go up to their room if needed.

Review 38:We were in the garden annex room which gave a self catering feel with the advantage of having your breakfast cooked.

Review 39:I am coeliac and stated that on booking, however there was no GF bread available and limited my options for breakfast. I'm sure the rooms are very clean but The rooms need a good dust!!

Review 40:The location was perfect as we could walk to the centre, restaurants and the river without hassle

Review 41:Not a bad experience at all and the garden room was clean and comfortable. However there was mouldy grouting by the shower/bath area which would have been so easy to renew. A plastic shower curtain is not a pleasant experience + showering in a non slip bath meant I had to use a towel to stand on.

Review 42:Location was perfect to explore the town. Quiet too. Parking on site Friendly staff

Review 43:We were relegated to an outbuilding, so didn't actually get to stay IN Dinham Hall. It wasn't sold on this basis, but our room was 'assigned' after we had booked, and mentioned briefly in small print. No view. A bit dark and dull.

Review 44:Proximity to the town.

Review 45:They did not clean the floor in the bedroom they didn't offer any information of the area and the room was down the back of the garden with slippery ground and for the money the room was only average .

Review 46:Location

Review 47:the rstaurant was closed both days we were there, and there's almost nowhere else to eat in ludlow Sunday and Monday night.

Review 48:lovely hotel and staff(nb my clicks on the smiley faces don't seem to be registering above)

Review 49:Bathroom was very old and tired. Toilet seat was a cheap plastic replacement and quite frankly at the price charged expected a much higher standard of bathroom.

Review 50:Beautiful setting and location perfect.

Review 51:Bedroom and especially bathroom very tired with poor 70s lighting. Breakfast very disappointing and poor service.

Review 52:Good location and parking - public rooms very good. Good reception and early check in no problem.

Review 53:Service of food very slow at breakfast and slower for one dinner. booked for 7pm did not eat till 8pm,to late for us also piece of fish 3inches square expensive for what we had.

Review 54:So well situated, Left car in car park for 3 days walked everywhere, lovely friendly town.

Review 55:WiFi is intermittent, but this was explained to us on arrival. Also our room was not as clean as expected, but the bathroom was spotless.

Review 56:It is a quirky, comfortable hotel, which has a slightly old fashioned appeal. Gardens and location are outstanding.

Review 57:Super convenient location in centre of Ludlow for all it has to offer and by the castle. We had a superior double which was very comfortable indeed and furnished in a traditional/period style at the top of his small, cosy, character style hotel. Good views from my bed! Lovely gardens and convenient free parking. Good breakfast. Well maintained with quirky features. Good breakfast

Review 58:Beautiful house. Lots of character. Perfectly located only a short stroll to the centre of Ludlow. Gardens were immaculate. We also ate at the brasserie and the food was very good. It was a little pricey for a set menu but the quality was excellent. The quality of breakfast ingredients was superb.

Review 59:It was our second stay in this hotel anf in both ocassions there was no wifi in the rooms. It is only available in their lobby.

Review 60:Liked location and staff

Review 61:Although the room was spacious it lacked the finer touches you would expect from the price. Breakfast was not fresh and produce used was of a poor quality.

Review 62:Ease of access to town centre and parking facilities

Review 63:No flannels or conditioner in the bath room Dead fly on the window sill & cobwebs in the upper corners of the room Breakfast was warm not hot The car park & entrance to the hotel was not secure. We arrived at 10:55pm to find a man urinating in the car park & he watched us park & then followed us as we entered the hotel

Review 64:The bed was very comfortable. Room 12 was very spacious with high ceilings There was an iron & board brought to us on request

Review 65:Nothing we didn't like

Review 66:The building had been decorated well. There was plenty of places to sit downstairs in the lounge and garden. The bedroom was very spacious with a large bedroom area and a lounge area. At night time we had windows open and the outside was quiet. The restaurant was wonderful, well presented and great food. On the doorstep to Ludlow castle and town.

Review 67:The only thing was the wifi but it wasn't important to us. And as it's an old property the squeaky floor boards.

Review 68:Very nice . Lovely atmosphere . The staff were very helpful . The food in the hotel was excellent .

Review 69:Excellent location right next to Ludlow castle. No need for the car all weekend but free parking was a bonus. Pleasant place to stay. Would stay here again.

Review 70:Would of liked to have known what was included in the cooked breakfast, I don't think it said it the on menu. Needs some music or radio playing in back ground in dining room, Particularly during breakfast. No fridge in room.

Review 71:Politeness of staff. Location of hotel. Decor brill

Review 72:Unfortunately the restaurant was not open on the Sunday and Monday of our stay.

Review 73:Good location, pleasant staff, Comfortable bedroom, good window views, clean on-suite

Review 74:The decor looks tired.

Review 75:Hotel is in a central location easy access to other areas of interest. Friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend a friend to the hotel.

Review 76:Overall very happy with the room however the shower could do with an upgrade and the bathroom was a little tired.

Review 77:The room was very spacious and had views in to the garden. Location was excellent as right next to the castle and had car parking.

Review 78:No hot water on final morning so no shower. Very expensive for a small, cramped room, and even smaller, poorly lit bathroom.

Review 79:Good location and free parking

Review 80:It was a shame the manager closed the residents lounge and bar every night at 9.00 pm. This was because no guests were eating in the restaurant which is off this lounge. This meant that after 9.00 pm the bar in the hotel was also shut. There was then only our room in which to relax and, although our room was nice, it would have been better to have been able to use the very impressive lounge and have a nightcap if we wanted. This also led to a further issue about which we were uncomfortable. Once that area of the hotel was closed, the only member of staff went home and there was then no-one on duty at reception or anywhere in the hotel. A number was given on the reception door to telephone if there were any emergencies, but, on one night, we were the only people in the hotel until 2 other guests came back much later! I'm not sure this arrangement would be very good if an elderly, less mobile, couple were staying, and there was an emergency and no staff to assist. That just didn't feel right. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay, but it was a shame this detracted from the late evenings. I think its not unreasonable to expect these facilities to be open, and some sort of staff presence. We had stayed at Dinham Hall some 15 years ago and this was not an issue then.

Review 81:The location and the nature of the building. Its lovely and is very impressive. Breakfast was also excellent and the staff friendly and courteous.

Review 82:This was a perfect place for our overnight stay in Ludlow. The accommodation was excellent and its proximity to the town centre made it very easy to go out and about in the town to explore. Though central the hotel was next to the castle and so was very quiet.

Review 83:The curtains did not block out anywhere near enough light - as a result we woke at 5am. Also, the toilet was not fixed to the floor correctly, which meant it rocked when you sat on it. Not what I would expect from a £200 room

Review 84:The location was excellent and the room spacious

Review 85:Perfect location right in the middle of town The garden annex was idyllic; quiet and peaceful with an array of summer flowers peeping through the windows and door. Easy parking accessible before check in time.

Review 86:Although the bed and the linens were pristine. The standard of cleaning in the bathroom and other parts of the room could have been better, although it was not terrible.

Review 87:The location of the hotel was excellent. Our room had double aspect windows with fabulous views.

Review 88:Bathroom was dark and shower was'nt hot enough. Disappointed that the restaurant wasn't open on Sunday or Monday

Review 89:Staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent

Review 90:Having to leave so soon!!

Review 91:We were accommodated in the "Flower Room" cottage adjacent to the Inn. Very comfortable stay, friendly staff, great food and ideal location opposite the Castle and close to the old town for a walk and restaurants. Brilliant!!

Review 92:There was a boiler in our room which kept my partner awake all night.

Review 93:Staff were friendly and helpful. Apart from the boiler the room was nice, clean and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were very nice.

Review 94:Customer service wasn't great. As a young couple, I felt as though we stuck out against the upper class market the hotel is clearly catered for and it is very overpriced for what you get. I've stayed in much better for half the price.

Review 95:The hotel view was lovely. Opposite the castle. Location was great too.

Review 96:The menu on line was different from choice available at hotel - evening meal booked on this basis, although meal we,had was nice I was a little disappointed.

Review 97:No complaints!

Review 98:Comfortable friendly hotel in gorgeous location, quiet at night and could not have been closer to the town centre. Onsite parking also a big plus.

Review 99:Whilst I did not feel unsafe in my "room" across the garden, I would have preferred to be inside the main building and would have requested this on booking if I had realised.

Review 100:Location, staff, food, ambience

Review 101:Breakfast on 1st day was excellent. 2nd day we both ordered poached haddock & eggs. Sadly the haddock was only a desert spoonful & the eggs had a vinegar taste from the poaching

Review 102:Our stay was lovely

Review 103:We booked a superior en suite because we wanted the extra large bed which was listed as 180 to210 cm wide. When we arrived we were given a double bed in a room named the castle. When we queried the discrepancy we were told the room was deemed superior because of it's view of the castle and the Belsize must be wrong in the booking.com website as all the beds were antique and therefore not as wide as stated. In addition the door of the bathroom did not close due to the absence of a lock and a faulty latch, there was no soap to wash your hands and the shower was a scalding dribble. I don't call this superior. The room now appears on the website as a double at £60 less than we paid for it. Very disappointing.

Review 104:Breakfast

Review 105:Wall's were a bit thin so can be disturbed by people talking next door.

Review 106:Great location just across from the Castle and around the corner from the main square, the room we had was top floor withb a cosy old style feel.

Review 107:The sash windows neither opened or closed - ours had a small gap at the top which let in a freezing draught. The central heating did not appear to be on. This was also on a June day. It seems none of the windows opened. However, pulling the heavy floor to ceiling curtains to eliminated this.

Review 108:Very comfortable bedroom and residents lounge. Good breakfasts and very helpful staff. Beautiful grounds and right opposite the castle. Ideal place for exploring Ludlow on foot as the hotel's parking facilities are excellant.

Review 109:Wi-fi only worked well in the bar/lounge; signal was poor in the bedrooms themselves. That said, mobile signal was good for general browsing. The shower was fairly low pressure, but everything else was excellent.

Review 110:The house and its decoration are excellent, as is the location. Free car-parking is extremely useful in Ludlow too.

Review 111:We thought the breakfast staff were inexperienced, we were at a small table and our large plates were not removed when we had finished our cooked breakfast so we had a problem when we were at the toast stage. Suggest the staff are trained to remove plates as soon as they are finished with. Good apart from that.

Review 112:The location was really excellent

Review 113:nothing

Review 114:large airy room very comfortable, great view of garden, very quiet. 2 mins walk from centre, breakfast and evening meal excellent, staff friendly and helpful.

Review 115:Showers Inflexible about leaving time. No possibility of having breakfast before 8:00AM WiFi impossible to access from annex, staff didn't acknowledge it, and didn't care.

Review 116:The breakfast The convenience for Ludlow centre

Review 117:Couldn't get wi-fi and one very small complaint was that there were no biscuits to have with a cup of tea.

Review 118:The food was really good and most of the staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 119:Not a bad experience exactly but the window of our room had been stuck several inches open by the painter and refused all our efforts to close it so a bit cold at night. We reported the problem to Reception but sadly it took three days before it was rectified. Also we had twin beds pushed together which made a very nice large sleeping area but the cording around each mattress was like iron so very uncomfortable if you accidently lay on it in the night.

Review 120:The Hotel is very central to Ludlow which means that it is easy to walk to most of the places of interest. It has a nice old world feeling and the rooms are furnished in keeping with it's age. despite which all the facilities are modern and attractive. The quality of food on offer for breakfast was excellent and well cooked. All the staff went out of their way to provide an enjoyable stay.

Review 121:The Castle room looks like a cheap bordello, deep red and gaudy gold. The room had a nasty curled up rug just outside the bathroom, covering a big stain on the carpet. I tripped over it at 3.00 in the morning and had a bad fall. I informed the staff in the morning, none of whom looked to be over 21. They removed the rug. Did anyone care......not at all. I was at least expecting an apology, or being asked how I was. Nothing. In the two nights I was there the room was not vacuumed and the teacup ring on the end of the bath that was there when I got there and still there when I left.

Review 122:The food was passable although very overpriced. I was charged 2.50 for a glass of soda and lime.

Review 123:No wi fi - no biccys on the tea tray!

Review 124:Loved the room although thought it was a bit over-priced even though it was a suite - have stayed here before in a "normal" room and apart from this being larger it was no better really

Review 125:The staff superb, the breakfast hot, nice choice & very tasty. The room (flower, garden room) large, bright & nicely furnished & very quiet. The hotel with nicely decorated cosy lounge & bar & beautiful back lawn/garden.

Review 126:The bedroom was always cold, even during the rare times the hotel heating was on.Complaining did not improve the situation.

Review 127:Great position for a stay in Ludlow

Review 128:Poor wifi availability. Missing tv remote - we were told by staff that 'they kept going missing' and they had run out of spares. Bath was small and difficult to get in and out of - bathroom was disappointing for room of this type.

Review 129:Suite was spacious with separate lounge area overlooking garden with its own direct access. Breakfast was excellent with good choice and freshly prepared Shropshire breakfast to be recommended.

Review 130:Free wifi in lounge areas only

Review 131:Pleasant staff, excellent location in quiet street opposite castle. Quirky, comfortable and elegant interior. Lovely small garden. Food good.

Review 132:May Fair!! loud and brash with drunken kids everywhere. some pubs and many shops closed because of the fair. No food market. Do NOT go to Ludlow on May bank holiday weekend unless you like cheap tacky fairs.

Review 133:nice town and hotel would have been nicely situated apart from the fair which could be heard o the room.

Review 134:The fair was in town and it was pointed out at booking. The fair takes up the whole market place and intruded on the hotel on two sides making it noisy. However, they did not go on late so it did not disturb us at night.

Review 135:The location for exploring the town and surrounding area. There was a lovely walk around the castle and along the river.

Review 136:Toilet was not cleaned properly. My husband's steak was quite tough, we did mention it. No reduction was offered. Room tired looking.

Review 137:Good location central to town. Staff very friendly. We did not stay for our breakfast, so cannot comment.
