Reviews for Old Posting House
Review 1:It's on a busyish road. Traffic can be loud from 6. But that's when I need to be up so not too bad for me
Review 2:Room is excellent. Breakfast is just what i need
Review 3:Extremely hospitable and accomodating going out of the way to ensure we were satisfied during our stay with a wonderful menu to boot. Great full breakfast provided too.
Review 4:Very welcoming and friendly place to stay. Mick the landlord was a great guy and friendly with everyone. Evening meal and breakfast good quality. Would certainly stay again
Review 5:Very little to complain about. We had room 3 which was very comfortable and very clean. It was on road side of inn and traffic did not cause problem as far as noise concerned but room would benefit from having blackout blinds to shut out light from early morning car headlamps. A bell at back of property (residents' entrance) would alert owner to arrivals-we had to phone to find out how to get in! Otherwise excellent
Review 6:Convenient point from which to see northern lakes, ample parking. Very friendly landlord, excellent range of food,well-cooked. Breakfast very good. All staff we met were friendly, welcoming. Bedroom very comfortable, bed and linen of good quality.
Review 7:Nothing.
Review 8:The Old Posting House was an ideal location for our 4 night stay in the Cockermouth area. We were very well looked after and the meals were excellent quality and value.
Review 9:Hospitality was first class. Nothing too much trouble. Room was first class well decorated and comfortable room. Food is great and lots of variety with an site chef.
Review 10:Tradition English pub. Great real ale ( Hobgoblin) on draught. The menu is very good and reasonably priced. Mind the English breakfasts. They're huge! Great hospitality. Nice rooms and plenty of parking.
Review 11:From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and at home. My mistake of booking a single occupancy room was no problem and quickly remedied. Every aspect of the hotel was just spot on, everything you wanted and needed was there but no silly extra bits. We had a lovely evening meal and a truly hearty breakfast with a great nights sleep in between. All in all a lovely stay. Would we stay again? Would we recommend it to others? Definitely yes and yes.
Review 12:One criticisim would be lighting in room ... Some bulbs had gone & en suite was a little dark over mirror
Review 13:Atmosphere . Very friendly people , Room & facilities were excellent .Meals were plentiful & HOT !
Review 14:The posting house landlord and staff were really helpful and friendly, the room and en suite were very clean indeed and the cooked breakfast was lovely well worth waking up for
Review 15:This hotel was an unexpected surprise. Located out of Cockermouth but I can understand why it stands alone. Our host Mick was unbelievable! He was very warm & welcoming & we had the best time with lots & lots of laughter. His hotel is just what we were looking for in a English country pub. I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling through the Lakes District. The food was exceptionally good value for money. The rooms are spacious & very comfortable with everything you require for a good night's sleep.
Review 16:The location is a bit away from the happenings in Lake district, you need to drive about 30 miles more to the areas where you get lots of activities and attractions
Review 17:We liked the facilities and the staff especially the ability to check in very late
Review 18:Front rooms have sloping ceilings which are easy for a tall person to knock their head on. Very warm, so needed to open the window and hear the fast passing traffic.
Review 19:Friendly staff. Great kippers for breakfast.
Review 20:Just a little bit out of the way if you were looking to eat and drink elsewhere but you don't need to. just a comment not necessarily a dislike as such
Review 21:The premises were as we had expected a quaint little hotel with a good menu and although not busy still had a warm friendly atmosphere. The rooms were very comfortable and were very well appointed had everything required. The landlord and staff were very friendly and helped to make the stay very enjoyable. with friends who also enjoyed the character of the place Would definitely go back.
Review 22:Owner Mike was very likeable, made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble. Very comfortable room, large and clean. Crisp white bed linen and towels. Large shower with plenty of hot water. Meals were excellent and very generous portions.
Review 23:Completely dog friendly. We had a lovely room with doors opening onto a small patio area - perfect for the dog. The room was clean and bright with good ensuite facilities. The food was great, well cooked and large portions. Such a good full English breakfast that we didn't need lunch!
Review 24:No brown bread available for breakfast toast and the tea was like dishwater.
Review 25:Very friendly without being intrusive. The room was spacious and comfortable with a high level of cleanliness. The food was excellent.
Review 26:What a fantastic find. The Old Posting House has everything you require for a few nights away from home - decent sized rooms, quality food at sensible prices and the landlord/owner knows how to run an establishment like this properly.
Review 27:The pub itself could do with an update..but saying that it was clean and the landlord was very friendly and welcoming
Review 28:The rooms were spacious modern and spotlessly clean. I couldn't fault them - neither could my sisters who were staying in 3 other rooms.
Review 29:We arrived and found everything locked up, however the owner came and let us in. Very friendly guy who told us to help ourselves to drinks and let him know what we had at the end of out stay, very trusting which was nice and appreciated. Room was nice and spacious and bathroom very clean. The noise from the road did keep waking us up during the night as we had to keep the windows open as it was hot. Evening meal was lovely and plenty of it. The waiting on staff weren't attentive however and we had to ask for menus twice and then ended up going to the bar to order our meals. Ordered a starter but were told it had to come at the same time as our mains as they stopped serving at 9. We had come down to eat at 8:15 but spent most of that waiting for menus and for them to take our order! The manager was good however and he had put a bottle of wine on ice for us as we had asked for one on arrival. It wasn't the one of the menu and we were charged over £20 for it and of was about £5 in the local shop. The lamb was delicious! I had a salmon salad which came with chopped bananas on top- bit odd! Was nice though. Breakfast was good too and value for money. Overall a pleasant last minute stay.
Review 30:Breakfast size and food quality was excellent but could have been cooked better.blackout blinds in room would be a great improvement and water in shower went cold after short period
Review 31:Bed, room position, quiet with view.
Review 32:Bar meal - steak pie only had 3 small bits of beef in it, and 3 carrots, with lots of gravy. bit disappointing.
Review 33:Nice staff Bar meal - Scampie really nice good position for cockermouth and lo0vely countryside comfy room and very spacious
Review 34:The only fault I could make was the upright chairs in the bed room not very good for reading if you have a bad back.
Review 35:A very good host, nothing was a bother to him. the food and presentation was first class. Total overall first class
Review 36:Friendly, no fuss check-in (not bombarded with information that I usually immediately forget)! Well cooked (huge if you want) breakfasts . Really good shower - nice shower gel etc! Quiet countryside location just outside Cockermouth.
Review 37:A warm welcome from Mick, the owner who went out of his way at all times (check-in,drinks,dinner and breakfast) who made the stay for myself and two friends very enjoyable
Review 38:Though we only stayed for one night, everything exceeded expectations - lovely room with new shower, and the food was amazing! Despite the pub's restaurant being extremely busy, the owner saved us a table for a great meal. Lovely breakfast too. Would stay here again and definitely recommend.

Review 42:Thae charming decor, atmosphere was excellent. Mine host was a breathe of fresh air, very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was very good and the meal we had later was excellent.
Review 43:The owner was really chatty and helpful, offering to book us a table for dinner/book taxis etc. I was also stupid enough to leave my tablet at the hotel and he kindly arranged for it to be posted back without charge. Only just out of Cockermouth but with the benefit of free parking - perfect location to get to a wedding in nearby Lorton. Loved the vast array of novelty teapots!
Review 44:Not much
Review 45:I loved the location it is very close to Cockermouth, lakes and in a very rural landscape. The pub landlord was very nice and friendly. Would recommend for good food, hospitality. Breakfast was served fresh and warm! Excellent stay, loved it!

Review 56:Modern shower and bathroom, good decoration, genuine old pub feel yet pristine condition, huge servings of good food, local and mainly English meals, nothing was a problem for the host or staff. Dogs were welcome.
Review 57:Bit of a mix up with breakfast so the two of us got an English breakfast each but 25 minutes apart. Was a bit further out of Cockermouth than expected but that was my own fault for not looking at the map properly.
Review 58:The chap who owned it seemed like a really nice bloke. Friendly and accommodating welcome. Superb full English breakfast. Nice clean room - comfy bed. Awesome power shower.
Review 59:Bed room only had a blind on the window but is in need of curtains to keep out the morning light.
Review 60:We received a very warm welcome in a lovely old Inn. The bedroom was top class with the most comfortable bed. Breakfast was hearty. View from the bedroom window was lovely.
Review 61:Mick is a landlord who runs his Inn for the benefit of customers, not for profit. The food is cooked on the premises to a high standard - all the meals we tried were delicious, and the menu is quite extensive, including traditional pub fare, fish dishes, and a hint of the orient. The rooms are spacious, clean and airy, with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The Inn is a Freehouse, and the beer, wine and whisky selection is fine.
Review 62:The noise from the road was a bit loud even with ear plugs. The rooms were really warm too.
Review 63:The bar was lovely and cosy. The rooms were fab and breakfast was soooooo good.
Review 64:The staff were very obliging and friendly, the room was comfortable and the breakfasts very substantial. The location is quiet and most convenient for visiting all parts of the Lake District. I would like to visit the area again and would be very happy to stay at the Old Posting House.
