Reviews for Best Western Claydon Country House Hotel
Review 1:Shower did not operate correctly with no indication of how it worked. Heating strange and remote not labelled or located logically. No iron or ironing board
Review 2:Excellent staff. Comfortable room. Car parking good
Review 3:most of stay Deluxe room was extremely poor and distgusting for a poor double at the best room was freezing cold no sandwiches or food available after a long dry and receptionist couldn't even find crisps only peanuts. Side of bath was falling off as well as shower all but falling off of the wall. King size bed was 2 doubles zipped together so a romantic weekend away was a joke due to mattress edges in middle of bed. Complained to trainee receptionist but it fell on deaf ears would not recommend or stay there again have stayed at better 2 star hotels
Review 4:Breakfast was best part of 2 day stay
Review 5:Small dated room. Difficult to control shower temperature. I found the bed to be uncomfortable - too hard even though I like a firm mattress and I had to put the duvet underneath me. Noise from other rooms (could hear people talking).
Review 6:Very friendly helpful staff. Location. Parking.
Review 7:Dodgy wifi signals at times (we went away without children and wanted to check up on them - no real drama)
Review 8:Staff were friendly, our booking had been missed off through this site, but they managed to get a room for us and upgraded us for the inconvenience.
Review 9:Paid for a room with a double bed and instead got a room with two single beds shoved together. Also it was a disabled room. I feel that if someone disabled had arrived for the night, they're wouldn't have been a room for them. The staff on arrival weren't the most welcoming either. The bed was like sleeping on concrete.
Review 10:The ease of finding the hotel.
Review 11:walls are paper thin, non smoking room doesn't stop people standing outside your room smoking and talking, with your room then smelling like an ash tray.
Review 12:staff were very friendly
Review 13:Lack of facilities. not even a residents' lounge. Catering was VERY hit and miss. Some staff great, some staff appalling. Despite having a so called 'Deluxe Room' I couldn't even get a bathrobe for the 5 nights of my stay.
Review 14:The room was clean and the Motel's proximity to the A12/A14 was great. The Head Chef is talented, but if you don't get him then go to the chippy.
Review 15:Whoever was in the room above made a lot of noise from 11 pm till 1.30am
Review 16:Evening meal was very good, although just one slice of bread in the bruschetta made the plate look a bit empty.
Review 17:Easy to book, nice staff, clean, excellent food. Came to area for family birthday lunch. Hotel allowed us to book in early and freshen up after our journey.
Review 18:The room was cramped , poor quality bedding and the bathroom had poor lighting , poor extraction and the shower curtain didn't fit propelyand the floor got very wet. Also the shower head was stuck and I couldn't Move it. QThe TV was old and poor quality
Review 19:The decor was dated , there was a smell of damp in the foyer and the hotel had the feel of a nursing home.
Review 20:Was my 65 th birthday and had asked for best room they had ,that did not happen think there were communication problems with staff,I was told when I rang that we have a lovely room like the one on the web sight was nothing like was dissapointing .
Review 21:Food was lovely .plenty of variety
Review 22:Bedroom disappointing and not the one chosen from the website Expensiveat £99 but there was a key football match that night
Review 23:Good evening meal in very pleasing setting.
Review 24:The ease of the check-in procedure and the location, just off the A14, were very good. We can't comment on the breakfast because we didn't eat at the hotel. Very good value for money
Review 25:room was a bit on the small size.
Review 26:booked evening meal in restaurant which was excellent really enjoyed the meal and the staff went out of their way to help you.breakfast was very good cooked just right. 10/10
Review 27:Breakfast was not included and quite expensive from my opinion
Review 28:The staff are really nice and helpful. The receptionist in particular was very kind and hwlped us with all the directions and transport to get
Review 29:The hotel was convenient located for touring and for eating out as well as the delicious breakfast. The staff and accommodation were welcoming and comfortable.
Review 30:I paid for an upgrade and was very disappointed as it should never have been offered as an upgrade but rather a slightly better positioned room within the hotel. Breakfast should be included
Review 31:Jordan who served us breakfast in the morning was great and atentive
Review 32:Very noisy because of traffic - cars screeching past all night plus police were called and were in our corridor arguing with another guest plus the cleaning staff arrived at 6 and stood chatting outside our door. I also got food poisoning and spent from 3.am onwards in the toilet.
Review 33:they didn't charge us for the room
Review 34:The only issue I had was with the Vodafone connection. I had to leave the hotel to get a signal (not their fault)
Review 35:The bar food was excellent and the staff were very friendly, helpful and cheerful. It was ideal and I will definitely go back.
Review 36:on booking online was described as "de luxe" room. If that was de luxe I would hate to see a standard one. Pokey, dark room. old furniture. view of the dustbins.
Review 37:Food!!!!
Review 38:The room a twin bed was positioned below a landing. Very noisy from above.
Review 39:Although we were lucky to get the only room available it was an obvious last choice
Review 40:nothing to complain about
Review 41:We had a lovely stay at this Hotel we have been several times and we are going back again in August for a family get together my son lives in Great Finborough. The Hotel is spotless ,rooms are homely and great having Aircon if you need it and is great also to be able to open the window.Car park has plenty of room and pleasant. surroundings. and very quiet at night.we did not try the breakfast. as we went to the family for that. The staff are very pleasant which is what you need for a pleasant stay.
Review 42:Sunday Restaurant is only open for an hour and poor choice on the menu , Whilst the hotel is spotless it is a little tired and our room was very small even after an upgrade , However would visit again
Review 43:Very Clean Very Friendly Excellent Breakfast And Excellent Staff.
Review 44:Waited 15 minuets at reception while the receptionist finished her conversation with her colleague down the corridor the bell didn't see to work either. As mentioned the wifi was the main let down. Also Best Weston seem to have a strange pricing policy, it was £55.20 for one night but when I tried to add two additional nights they wanted an extra £160+ so needless to say I went else where.
Review 45:The room was perfect, everything worked as it should however the wifi was very intermittent
Review 46:Very poor service at breakfast on one morning, but good service on other mornings, so down to badly trained incompetent staff on the bad morning. There were dirty dishes from other residents that were not cleared from tables, even after half an hour waiting for some food to arrive, despite needing to remind staff of the delay. Customers needed to clear tables themselves to be able to eat.
Review 47:Located in the desired area at a reasonable cost with comfortable facilities.
Review 48:Access to reception up a flight of steps difficult for elderly with knee problems. Why is the front door locked? On a main road, this is not what most people understand a "Country House" hotel to be.
Review 49:Good bed, very helpful staff.
Review 50:The massive downside was that neither my personal or work mobile phones worked (both Vodafone) which was extremely annoying as I had to work and couldn't be contacted. I also struggled with the free WIFI but by that stage I had had enough. Although the accommodation was adequate I wont book there again.
Review 51:Accommodation was all and the room was extremely clean and conformation
Review 52:I had upgraded to a superior/deluxe room as there was an offer. The room was actually tiny. So whether there was a mistake with my booking or the standard rooms are even small I am not sure!
Review 53:Lovely building Lovely grounds Decent parking Friendly staff Clean room Great pillows
Review 54:Bed; bed and bed! Beautiful, newish divan, crisp white, fresh, cotton sheets...bliss.. but did not get a wink of sleep until the night porter saving the day by letting me borrow another duvet so I could sleep on a folded one as bed so hard very uncomfortable. I did manage three hours 2-5am. Real shame as everything else value for money.
Review 55:Ambience and the staff very friendly
Review 56:Breakfast here is expensive when the pub across the road can offer you a full English for a third of the price thought that was a trick missed by the hotel.
Review 57:was greeted upon arrival by Gemma so helpful and knowledgeable of the area, very welcoming and my wife commented on her being a trainee so very well done to her. Housekeeping staff very efficient very clean and pride taken in the presentation of room, old fashioned décor but not at all tatty.
Review 58:I asked for a double room, but found too (hard) single beds pushed together. Not the best sleep, but forgiven at breakfast time and I didn't feel the need to complain.
Review 59:The friendliness and helpfulness of staff was 100%, and the cooked breakfast was probably the best I've had!
Review 60:The walls and floors are quite creaky, so not good if you're a light sleeper, and get disturbed by people moving around upstairs.
Review 61:Very helpful staff.
Review 62:Unfortunately my room was on the street side, so it was a bit noisy - also, there were kitchen smells in the bathroom - however, nothing too bad
Review 63:good location for exploring the neighborhood - easy to find and quick to reach to motorways to whatever direction
Review 64:Couldn't get WIFI to work. Deluxe room was supposed to have Sky Sports (according to website) but didn't.
Review 65:Good price and decent location for our needs. Staff friendly.
Review 66:There is a very limited menu for dinner and on the second night we waited for almost an hour after ordering - good job it was not busy! The shower was abysmal. Water flow was just more than a dribble and no way to change the temperature - hot or hot!
Review 67:Breakfast was good apart from the scrambled eggs on the second day - difficult to describe them but grey, dry slime is close enough. It must have been a different chef from the first day.
Review 68:First time in the area, so didn`t know the location. It was perfect only just a mile from my meeting place. Nice and quiet with a good sized room and a very comfy bed. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Drinks from the bar weren`t over priced as they can be in some hotels and the food, although a limited menu in the restaurant, was very good quality. Breakfast was of a good standard too. All in all a very pleasant stay, and i will reccommend to my company, that we use this hotel regularly in the future
Review 69:WIFI was useless, took 3 codes to access. Frustrating when staying on business and is a big reason for staying at "proper" hotels
Review 70:Price, staff
Review 71:Nothing
Review 72:We liked the location position. plenty of parking, and excellent having side door no struggling with cases up stairs. The rooms cozy and very clean. and what a treat to be able to open a window.the staff were very helpful nothing to much trouble.
Review 73:We booked a deluxe room , but was disappointed with the size , it was small .
Review 74:The staff at the hotel made our stay. We were strangers to the area they helped us book taxis and made us feel very welcome .
Review 75:This is the fourth time i have stayed at this hotel.Food always great, well presented and good value for money. Great location half a mile from the A14. staff very polite and very professional.
Review 76:car park muddy. would like a choice for breakfast only choice full English or continental, I wanted only a slice of toast and a cup of tea, called in at nearby café!
Review 77:staff friendly, hotel facilities good, room clean and comfortable, en suite clean, tv plus wi fi excellent. good value.
Review 78:No swimming pool. Some of the staff were new and being trained and had broken english
Review 79:Being in the same village as our relatives and being so close to Ipswich for shopping. Its also a great place to eat.
Review 80:Bedroom smaller than expected Shower not very good
Review 81:Excellent check in Location Facilities in bedroom Quiet, no noise from nearby main road First time at this hotel. Everything was good. More or less as expected
Review 82:The bed was too soft and squishy. The bar area is small and basic; not one to sit in for an evening out. The kitchen cooking area was close to the bottom of the stairs, so you could be traipsing your suitcases through staff attempting to walk through with platefuls of food! And it also wafted cooking smells around the hotel, due to its position.
Review 83:Room was lovely, drapes sumptuous, bathroom large with an imposing high ceiling. There is also enough free parking at the side of the hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. Area: opposite a "Hungry Horse" pub, which is not exactly fine fare food-wise but perfectly reasonable and is busy with a good atmosphere. We booked The Claydon Country House Hotel because it was close to our friends who we were visiting, but enjoyed our time there also.
Review 84:No hot water first morning, although staff offered room change immediately .
Review 85:Comfort of the room Friendly and helpful staff Quality of the breakfast Good parking on site Quiet area but with excellent road links
Review 86:We were given the 'disabled room' (Room 101) No problem there except the lighting level was too harsh with no dimming provision and the mirror height/size meant almost kneeling to have a shave. The large double bed was made up of two divans which did not meet properly at the join leaving an uncomfortable gap.The night we stayed was very warm. This room is next to the kitchen and when we turned the a/c unit on it immediately sucked in the cooking smell from the kitchen. However to be put in 'Room 101' we should have foreseen something.
Review 87:Overall the hotel was good, especially the food and staff We only stayed one night and dined in at the hotel with friends who lived locally. They had also told us previously how nice the rooms were in the old building.......
Review 88:Very noisy floorboards and doors. On way to room 1 of the fire exits doors was flying open I checked no one was there outside so I could close it but it really did not seem secure even when closed. Quite worrying.
Review 89:Speedy check in, able to control your own heating/air con. Very powerful shower however it was so powerful it would not stay straight kept trying to shoot out of the shower curtain, shower holder just needs tightening I think. Room 221.
Review 90:We stayed one night en route and found the hotel v comfortable and we had a super meal in the restaurant in the evening. It is v convenient if travelling as it is just off the A 14 but it was also quiet.
Review 91:Room a little small. Breakfast rather expensive (considering my wife only wanted 1 sausage & 1 egg)
Review 92:Staff were extremely helpful & very friendly including the staff working in the garden. Enjoyed our stay with you.
Review 93:Narrow corridors and doorways not great for disabled people
Review 94:Although its not a country house its fairly well presented. We had an exec room in the main hotel and it was clean (bar an inch of dust on the top of the four poster frame) and a small hole in the wall. They only leave one small bottle of water In the room although you can buy more at reception. Breakfast was tasty although the room was not equipt to seat all customers and the food ran out quickly please note however the duty manager was fabulous. My only issie really is that the hotle states its ok for disabled and my mil who was with us really struggled in her chair as the corridors are too narrow to navigate and there was a chair in the room leaving no space to get from the doorway to the bathroom.
Review 95:Hard bed Hairdryer poor Anniversary dinner was a disaster. Wife's food poorly displayed and lack of vegetables in a vegetable dish. The breakfast had lack of choice - no nuts, dried fruit or melon. Had to ask for second hand towel. New shower gel bottle, which had to be asked for, was not put in its holder. The vegetable option was variable and the bar meal was a small helping.
Review 96:Coffee Car parking Shower Staff were helpful but they were not particularly pro-active. Wife's bar meal was good
Review 97:The room was a little too hot for our liking and the air con unitdidn't cool it down enough. Very minor complaint which didn'tdetract from our evening away.
Review 98:Large comfortable bed, very clean hotel, very helpful staff, breakfastwas delicious and plentiful (we should have had dinner in therestaurant as the pub opposite was rubbish!, Lesson learned) Loads ofof street parking.
Review 99:told us they were doing a 3 course special meal that evening but were unable to tell us the menu, they said they would have to wait for the chef to come in, went downstairs late afternoon still no menu so we ate in pub over the road
Review 100:nice big room, asked for queen room and got the bridal suite breakfast was lovely and plentiful, even had cheese on offer
Review 101:No food available after 9pm - while available over the road at a Hungry horse - not my cup of tea Wifi wouldn't work Room was a lot smaller than it looked and in need of a refurb I could hear the television from the neighbouring room quite loud until 11.30 at night parking
Review 102:Room was clean & tidy Breakfast was cooked to order and very nice
Review 103:Bathroom wallmounted hairdryer Booked deluxe room and given very basic room compared to our travel companions who had a kingsize bed, much bigger and brighter room and large en-suite. Obvious differences in what we were told were both "deluxe rooms". Disappointing especially as we had paid more for our room.
Review 104:Friendly helpful staff. Clean comfortable rooms. Good breakfast
Review 105:Shower curtains always a pain especially where shower is powerful, which is a good point.
Review 106:Arrived late, and great welcome, great breakfast,so did not sample dinner.
Review 107:Pebbled carpark made it difficult to wheel my suitcase.
Review 108:Large comfortable bed and bedroom. Great location opposite a large pub and supermarket. Good bar service and very friendly staff.
Review 109:The noise from the function! It was VERY loud. I think it was actually too loud for the people attending, as more seemed to be outside the room than in it! Because the hotel had warned me, it wasn't quite so bad, but I'm glad we didn't have small children with us as it went on until midnight.
Review 110:The room was lovely with free wifi and air conditioning. The staff were very polite and helpful. They emailed me to tell me a function was taking place on the night we stayed and did their best to provide a quiet room.
Review 111:The plumbing for the shower was exceptionally noisy. No real lounge of bar area all squashed into reception but not an issue as only one night.
Review 112:No issues ticked the boxes for our one nighter.
Review 113:Our room was on the small side which made accessing the wardrobe a squeeze , but very clean with free wi-fi and air conditioning as a bonus .
Review 114:We really enjoyed our meals ,we had breakfast and dinner each day . The awards they have received are well deserved as the quality and presentation were excellant, and all the staff performed their duties to the highest level , friendly and helpful ,making our stay relaxing and enjoyable.
Review 115:Long wait for breakfast due to a wedding being on Noisy corridors - doors banged loudly in night and early hours of morning
Review 116:Friendly helpful staff Air con in room Comfy bed Accommodating check in times Tea and coffee facilities
Review 117:Wedding disco music thumping loudly until 12. Avoid Room No 110 which is too close to the function room and has poor sound insulation. No room to park in the car park so had to park on the street
Review 118:Room was clean and OK
Review 119:We were given a disabled room. The bathroom had a very strong smell. Reception staff not particularly helpful. No breakfast included. No toiletries.
Review 120:Easy to find and accessible.
Review 121:The shower was very poor - luckily it was above a bath, so could use that instead. Decor is a bit "tired", but fine for the price.
Review 122:Staff very helpful and efficient, particularly with the bicycle storage. Our evening meal was very good. Much better than anything else that we saw nearby.
Review 123:I could hear every movement from the room above appears to be no soundproofing at all Very annoying and meant I was woken about 5 times !
Review 124:pleasant staff
Review 125:Lovely and helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. Had an evening meal on a Sunday evening which was excellent and good value. Breakfast excellent. Quiet, even though there was a wedding on.
Review 126:Thought room was a deluxe one but very small anfd far too hot long walk to room to find key card didnt fit .dissappointed as booked evening meal at hotel and was only phoned an hour before to be told we couldnt eat there as wedding on went to sister hotel up the road but couldnt have a drink as had tto drive back to here very disappointed at last miute change but food was good luckily
Review 127:Exelllant breakfast and lovely staff waiting on
Review 128:Problem with the lack of power of the shower the water just trickled out of the showerhead.
Review 129:convienient for touring the Suffolk area - eas of access to local venues
Review 130:The location is good except there is a pub backing onto the hotel which was playing music until 3.00am very noisy. The room was too small and the floor boards creak which makes them very noisy when people coming in late.
Review 131:The hotel was nice and the staff were friendly.
Review 132:pillows were a little thin, but that may be down to the fact that we do like nice thick pillows, didnt stop us sleeping though.
Review 133:staff were very friendly and helpful the restaurant food was truly excellent and extremely good value
Review 134:As it was close to a motorway we could hear the rushing of the traffic but it didnt spoil our visit.
Review 135:The hotel was comfortable, clean and had everything we required for our one night stay. We booked this hotel as we had stayed there before and it was very close to a relative we were visiting in the village.
Review 136:Friendly staff
Review 137:Shower took a long time to get to temperature
Review 138:Room was excellent
Review 139:The room was amazing
Review 140:None
Review 141:The friendly staff and very good catering. The evening meal was excellent.
