Reviews for South Causey Inn

Review 1:Excellent food, good service and very pleasant room. A cut above the standard normally found in this cost bracket. My company shall use this hotel again (and that is really all that needs to be said)

Review 2:I was a bridesmaid at a wedding that was held there and found it refreshing to see such high levels of professionalism and standards in a hotel. They were that good that you didn't even realise they are there ensuring that the day goes as smoothly as possible.

Review 3:Had to be moved from Room 12 to Room 15 due to loud live music from the public bar. Hotel staff could not have been more helpful and apologetic.

Review 4:The helpful, friendly staff. The decor. The food.

Review 5:Breakfast wasn't as good as dinner

Review 6:Nice warm scone we had while waiting for our room to be ready. Dinner the first night was great. Tried some other dishes the second night and they weren't quite as good.

Review 7:Very helpful and welcoming staff, comfortable well-sized rooms in a charming hotel with a stunning location, yet within a very small drive to the amenities of Newcastle

Review 8:Lovely countryside setting - horses, fowl, gardens, scenery, excellent food - great portions!! Only 10-15 mins drive to business location. Room had free iced juices, water, tea/coffee and cake and biscuits. Very good breakfast. Lovely rural feel.

Review 9:Room price of £120 overpriced room was clean but very small...breakfast table covered in crumbs ..we where shown to this table by waiter....when you are paying £120 a room its the attention to detail that counts

Review 10:The wedding planner did an amazing job ..staff very friendly...

Review 11:Drinks a little pricey Room where night time reception was too hot. Invest in air con

Review 12:Lush room. Shame it didn't have a door leading onto hill. We stayed in no. 23 stables. Friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. We will be back and Book room with hot tub Loved the little extras in room the orange juice , jug of water and treats. Lush

Review 13:After breakfast we walked a short distance and visited the animals-donkey/sheep etc a local man who came to feed them was telling us a bit history about the surroundings which was very interesting

Review 14:Everything!! We were guests at a wedding asked if we could check in earlier so we could get ready-no problem everyone made us welcome and staff were happy and friendly

Review 15:Couldn't fault it.

Review 16:We attended a wedding here, it was very intimate and personal. The location was fabulous with gorgeous gardens and surrounding areas. The food was absolutely amazing and the evening reception was great. The rooms were a decent size and the bed was really comfortable.

Review 17:Water was not hot enough for me but did since learn that they did have a power cut in the night so not sure if this was the reason for the reduced water temperature.

Review 18:Breakfast, easy dining options, lovely location, friendly staff, quick check out, safe parking, reasonable prices - would stay again

Review 19:Food nothing special

Review 20:Location ideal for purpose of visit. Friendly, cheerful and helpful staff Quiet room away from main hotel. Liked the provision of tables in the courtyard. Nice grounds.

Review 21:The hotel envelops you with its comforts as soon as you enter. The interior it mainly wood, with great open fires and excellent decor. The sofas in the snug were great for getting some work done and the food was excellent. Also - the hotel has its own resident bulldog puppy who was just the icing on the cake. I also enjoyed the Tuesday market!

Review 22:Mattress was a bit too hard for us, everything else was super.

Review 23:The room was large and clean. The food was excellent. The water and chocolates in the room was a lovely touch.

Review 24:Trust questioning 8 small warning laminated notices in our ok twin room from where to place used teabags to charges that would be incurred if bathroom toiletries were removed.

Review 25:Great location, green and pleasant grounds. Super self serve breakfast menu. Lovely hot and good pressure shower while standing in the bath.

Review 26:We had two rooms, one room complained about noise at 2:00am and got no help. We spent quite a lot with no help. Do not recommend.

Review 27:Not too much, it was OK but overpriced.

Review 28:A wedding that went on till early hours below our room & another party the following evening below our room

Review 29:The friendly & attentive staff & the clean & comfy room. The views are also stunning & only a 15 min car journey to town centre

Review 30:I bought a weekend stay at this venue as a treat for my son and his partner. They couldn't have praised the venue more! They absolutely loved the place itself and said the staff couldn't have been more helpful, the food was excellent and they are planning to return at Christmas. Overall they had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the South Causey Inn. Definitely recommended.

Review 31:The hotel and its surroundings were stunning! The staff were second to none and couldn't do enough for you. We stayed in the courtyard which backed into the fields and had a fabulous view. You could even have book a horse ride in as part of your experience. Fabulous place, would definitely stay for longer to take in the surroundings and use the hotel more!!

Review 32:Having to leave!!

Review 33:A gorgeous Inn very close to beamish museum but with loads to do. We really enjoyed the gardens and bought some rhubarb chutney from the great food market that was on at the Inn on Tuesday.

Review 34:I was here for a family wedding and stayed over. Couldn't have asked for a better day and stay. It was amazing. The service from the staff was top notch and couldn't have asked for anything better. Will definitely be going back again soon. James

Review 35:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 36:Nothing was too much trouble for the staff! They were polite, courteous and very helpful, especially with our wedding preparations.

Review 37:nothing to dislike

Review 38:Lovely countryside location, nice clean room, comfortable bed, good powerful hot shower, free parking, reasonably priced, good portion restaurant food. Have stayed here previously so must be OK

Review 39:We arrived late (after 8.30pm) so would have liked to had more time to relax and fully appreciate the room facilities and great food longer!

Review 40:We were lucky to be allocated one of the bridal suites and we're pleasantly surprised! Loved jacuzzi with TV attached!

Review 41:Nothing.

Review 42:Warm welcome at reception, right balance of friendliness and professionalism, excellent size room with good decor, decent TV and good WiFi (so important in 2015). Best breakfast I have had in a good few weeks of hotels, lots of car parking, nice owners at checkout.

Review 43:Mortgage advice beer mats in restaurant, endless written rules in room assuming I am likely to steal shampoo bottles or commit other such offences, boss who walks about in scruffy jeans and with tea towel rather than leaving job to staff, v v noisy. Not the place for a quiet couples weekend away. Menu very odd in selection and waiter opens with what isn't available. Place has loads of potential but in need of branding advice to decide what it is first...pub, restaurant, hotel, events venue etc

Review 44:The building and decor of rooms, staff very friendly.

Review 45:My emailing ahead to advise of mobility problems may have been misunderstood. I was politely informed that I had booked an "economy" room that was upstairs. Although help with luggage was readily offered I did not feel I could cope so agreed to additional cost of "upgrading" to a courtyard room. That meant I had to traverse quite a distance to get to the dining area. The meals were excellent in quality but the portions were far too large. I dislike wasting food but simply could not eat all that was offered. With respect I would suggest that those with mobility problems make enquiries as to the suitability of rooms on offer before booking. I accept the fact that I did not and must take a portion of responsibility for any inconvenience I experienced.

Review 46:Attitude of staff in all areas was excellent. Food excellent, but see comments opposite. Offered a discount deal at Beamish Museum which was well worth taking. If you have a hearty appetite this is certainly a place well worth considering.

Review 47:Terrible welcome - stood over 5 mins in reception where the first words were 'I can't book you in ' it was 9pm and the reception was most unhelpful and no sorry just ' well I don't know what your going to do I can't book you in '

Review 48:Clean room good location

Review 49:Missed out on the roulette table due to poor communication on the night of our entertainment by the staff on the night

Review 50:The food was out of this world during our stay.

Review 51:Sign on main road could have done with some illumination, drove straight past.

Review 52:Attitude Of Staff Food Quality Of Furnishings Great Staff Attitude This is a great place to stay

Review 53:Not sure about seeing the massive lorry, full of horse manure in car park!

Review 54:Helpful and friendly staff. Good food in bar. Lovely to enjoy a drink in the bar next to the open fire in a comfy sofa!

Review 55:the distance to the nearest bus stops, and nonavailability of bus schedules

Review 56:our reception, the friendliness of the staff the meals were excellent all good

Review 57:Nothing - I have nothing bad to say

Review 58:The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and overall a fab place. Ideal for a Christmas stay as very cosy and lovely atmosphere

Review 59:Although stated wifi available could not access it !

Review 60:Lovely setting .. Pleasantly surprised at standard of accommodation .. We were here for a friends wedding decided to stay over .. Very nice .. Great breakfast !

Review 61:going home

Review 62:have travelled and stayed in a lot of hotels, price, food, quality of room even as it was in the court yard, would have no problem recommending this facility for short or few day break, I only travelled from wallsend did not know this was here.

Review 63:The only downside was that our shower wasnt working properly and we had to switch rooms but luckliy was only 2 doors up

Review 64:I loved everything about this place! Will deffinately be coming back :) The food, atmosphere and even the smell of the place made it feel like a home from home. Came to from wallsend to stay for one night and they couldnt of made us feel more welcome.

Review 65:Absolutely nothing.

Review 66:Room was very comfortable, warm and had everything you needed. Restaurant was excellent and food out of this world. Hotel grounds beautiful.

Review 67:There was absolutely nothing we didn't like about this hotel.

Review 68:We loved our overnight stay at The South Causey Inn. Food was excellent, the friendliness of the staff was outstanding. We would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it to all family and friends.

Review 69:Poor wi-fi in room, noisy enough, early check-out and an outdoor heater would be nice

Review 70:The style of the place was superb.Food by the fire even better.Great staff, the very best all throughout.

Review 71:He bar was so hot, too hot in fact!! The dining toom was too hot and when I enquired if the hotel was always as warm as this, the answer was yes!!! It was uncomfortably warm!! No need for a sweater here!!

Review 72:The hotel was lovely, all the staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 73:The breakfast sausage.....

Review 74:The location, bedroom, breakfast, the evening reception venue room...we could not fault this hotel at all. Brilliant day/night. well done to all the staff for a wonderful stay. We will certainly be back.

Review 75:I was housed in the main building, my son in a renovated outbuilding. I had a very stylish bath tub, but no hook to hang the shower head if I wanted a shower. My son had a shower only, but no curtain , and the shower was quirky - either full blast, boiling hot or cold... Wi-fi was OK - after I had disconnected the modem and reconnected it to reset it...

Review 76:Travelling with my 30 year old son, we booked the room on the morning of the day we arrived on my mobile - and requested twin beds. When we arrived about 8 pm, the receptionist said that they did not have a twin bed room, so they gave us two seperate rooms for the price of one. To say the least, this was impressive.... The mini farm and vegetable and herb garden would definitely interest youngsters. Everything seemed new, squeaky clean and nicely styled... And people seemed very friendly up north, much more than in London..

Review 77:Nothing. Just stay here.

Review 78:Lovely staff, very accommodating. Tasty evening meal and breakfast. Excellent room. Very good wifi for once. Lovely area, very peaceful. Most comfortable bed ever. About 15 minutes from Durham. Staff kept the kitchen late for me for dinner, was very happy with the staff here. Very homely.

Review 79:Nothing to add to a negative review as there was no issues

Review 80:Great break for weekend travelers and family trips. Very comfortable and staff are great. Food was great and good value too.

Review 81:room by the fire door noisy bar/hallway slightly worn out appearance cheap and terrible mattress I probably expected too much given the "Wonderful, 9.0" rating...

Review 82:Friendliness of staff great cappuchino for breakfast

Review 83:loud music from a wedding function not good if they had told us that a wedding disco was on we would have not gone there as fr price of room it wasnt worth the money and had to put up with loud booming base

Review 84:the young reception lady was good and helpful she moved us to a quieter room

Review 85:nothing.

Review 86:staff friendly and attentive from our arrival to departure.location and views superb.great choice on menu for evening meals and breakfast.orange juice and cakes in room on arrival, a nice welcome touch.

Review 87:Nothing to not like I will recommend this hotel to my friends.Well done booking .com

Review 88:Staff very friendly Food excellent Rooms good with little extras such asfresh orange ,buscuits and bottled water. Great views. Comfortable beds

Review 89:Everything - the grounds, the animals, the garden, the homeliness of the inn, with decor that combined comfort with beauty. The quality of food served was superb; The staff were friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back and stay there again.

Review 90:Scrambled egg on the self serve at breakfast would have been nice.

Review 91:EVERYTHING about this venue is amazing! All the details and finishing touches go such a long way. So comfortable, so clean, such fantastic (and HUGE!) meals.

Review 92:The animal farm was a little untidy. woken up by geese every morning but you would expect that from a farm! a mirror for make-up and drying hair would but better located.

Review 93:very good food. great staff - friendly plenty of parking

Review 94:Signage to the carparks could be clearer perhaps separating the guests at the inn from the riding stables as slightly unnerving around ponies being hacked back into the yard. We are farmers so mention this only as other guests might find the parking needs smartening up.

Review 95:Our room (17) was outstanding and a great deal of thought had gone into providing a very high standard of furnishings and extras such as tea, coffee and fresh water on arrival together with orange juice and biscuits.

Review 96:Wifi although stated as being in all rooms we could not get a signal and after letting reception know we were told we must have faulty equipment! How two ipads, two iphones and a Galaxay Neo phone could not receive the internet is beyond me?

Review 97:Beds comfortable. Location lovely. Staff mostly helpful, lovely waitress at breakfast.

Review 98:Lovely friendly atmosphere staff were really pleasant and helpfull.food in pub was nice not to overly priced.we had a riding lesson also which was really good to get back on after all these years

Review 99:Very noisy location with cooking smells and constant disco noise until midnight and a smokers tent outside the window generating late night noise due to almost daily weddings. Do not accept a stay in this room!

Review 100:Reasonable for price.

Review 101:Good food and lovely location. Really enjoyed the walks round the hotel and visiting the animals.Friendly and efficient staff. Would strongly recommend to others.

Review 102:I thought that £25.00 for each additional beds was abit to much - usually the extra price you pay for a family room covers the extra beds.

Review 103:We had our Grandchildren with us so we liked the variety of animals that were on the site and also the comfort & luxury of the room we had

Review 104:This is an incredibly busy place, particularly at weekend: "we do 600-700 covers each Sunday". Unfortunately our restaurant booking was overlooked among the hordes. A wedding venue meant an interrupted night's sleep due to noise from the reception party beneath our room and revellers in the courtyard.

Review 105:Ease of access, location from major routes / Beamish etc. Speed of check in. Facilities in the bedroom, character of the bar and building generally. Friendliness of most staff.

Review 106:One small blip our room was over the wedding venue which was quite noisy on the first night but did not spoil our stay

Review 107:The staff were exceptional . Making you feel welcome . Nothing was to much trouble

Review 108:We were only staying one night :-(

Review 109:It was a very interesting place to stay with lots of things to look at, a very filling and tasty breakfast and the staff were extremely helpful and very friendly.

Review 110:Wifi wouldn't work in rooms, had to go to lounge. Location of Inn was further from Durham than I expected. Roadside lighting of Inn's entrance sign was very poor.

Review 111:Staff were very co-operative. Breakfast was great. Internal and external facilities were charming.

Review 112:Wifi not very dependable.

Review 113:Lovely place, very comfortable stay. The staff were very friendly, attentive and polite. Recommend the rooms with patio - very spacious and full of character.

Review 114:Nothing, only that I could not stay another night or two!

Review 115:I arrived late, staff were great, arranged some food even though the kitchen was closing. Bar good, room good, comfortable clean and with tea and coffee etc. breakfast excellent, price good. I have no hesitation in reccomending this hotel.

Review 116:There was no Wifi connection in the room despite the staff's best efforts. There was a leaking gutter above the door to our courtyard room, which was fixed very quickly once the staff were advised but was very noisy during the rainy night. Using the shower tended to cause a major flood in the bathroom as the shower screen was not effective. There was no hot water for a bath on one evening which was very disappointing. Breakfast was very basic with few & uninspiring continental choices and cooked buffet was cold and tired. I expected more.

Review 117:Rooms were very comfortable and facilities within the rooms were good. The bar food, service and ambiance were good. We enjoyed sitting outside in the lovely garden on Saturday evening

Review 118:Being charged 2.5% for using Mastercard - no mention on web site or Booking.com. Small room in which the wardrobe doors could not be opened due to lack of space. Hairs (curly ones!) in bathroom. Breakfast could be better.

Review 119:Nice location. Good restaurant and food pretty good.

Review 120:efficient staff, quick check in and out.A very extensive menu and can cater for vegans and coeliacs. This was recommended to us by a friend ,and we were not dissappointed.

Review 121:Restaurant very busy, efficient but noisy.

Review 122:Friendly, efficient service. Excellent food, great choice. Lovely setting with horses, donkeys, goats and much more .

Review 123:Good location, very helpful staff, wonderful restaurant with an excellent choice of well cooked food. I asked for a quiet room and was pleasantly surprised to have one overlooking the front and side of the hotel. Could not fault anything!!! We hope to return.

Review 124:I liked the patio room with a great view of the countryside. The bathroom was very nice too. There are lovely grounds with plenty to see. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.

Review 125:Maybe difficult to get to/from if ever is snow, must try to be sure.

Review 126:Welcoming. Good food & beer. Clean rooms and easy access. Overall great "country-fied" place to stop. 30 minutes tops to Washington, 40 to riverside docks area. Seems quiet and secure place. Enjoyable

Review 127:Some food was a bit disappointing and the room was very small and basic for the price

Review 128:Cosy and pleasant

Review 129:Lounge atmosphere

Review 130:Loved the atmosphere of the place! Really nice, attentive staff who couldn't do enough for me.

Review 131:the price £143 for one night!!!

Review 132:everything

Review 133:Everything
