Reviews for Grange Moor Hotel

Review 1:The room was next to the front door and that door closes with a bang. There were quite some people staying who left before we got up, so there was quite a lot of banging going on in the morning.

Review 2:We got a very large room.

Review 3:Tiny room. Above the bar so very noisy as it was Christmas party time. Gluten free breakfast was hopeless even though specified at time of booking well in advance

Review 4:Restaurant food very good.

Review 5:Waiting staff weren't friendly or even polite, room was very small and crammed. Hotel needs some investment to clean it up.

Review 6:Location was good for an event we attended. Price was about right for hotel.

Review 7:Wasn't too happy being woken up at 9.30am by someone hoovering outside door and housekeeping knocking at 10am despite us having to check out at 11am

Review 8:The room was big and comfy. Bed was very comfortable.clean. Staff were really helpful and the tuna melt was lush

Review 9:This was a horrible experience. Everthing was dusty and old. Our room spelt bad. This whole hotel is still stuck in another era and needs a complete makeover.

Review 10:Decor dated and generally shabby, cleanliness poor, breakfast finishes too soon, our waitress was bored and inattentive and breakfast mediocre - all in all an under welming experience

Review 11:Size of room good

Review 12:The Hotel staff were unwelcoming and I would say challenging The room was noisy with a large kitchen fan running until 11.00/11.30p.m.

Review 13:The waitress Staff and the carvery was excellent

Review 14:The beds were incredibly uncomfortable and the pillows were very flat, my daughter, husband and I hardly slept!

Review 15:The Staff at the Grange Moor we're fantastic, really helpful and friendly!

Review 16:when we got to the hotel at 4pm on a Friday evening we were informed that they had Disco Christmas parties on Sat & Sun evenings that didn't finish till 12 am. would have been nice of the hotel to mention this earlier, obviously it was too late to cancel as we would have had to pay in fully, & being late on Friday we may not have other accommodation, a shame as otherwise the hotel is a good mid range hotel. Other than that whilst in the bar at 8 pm on the Sunday evening we were surprised to see a member of staff who was off duty intoxicated & swearing at the bar, the manager refused to serve him after a while, didn't stop him from falling into the doorway by us though. Having run bars & restaurants ourselves it was surprising to see that staff were allowed to get drunk on the premises on their night off.

Review 17:No dislikes

Review 18:Comfortable stay in a very spacious room with large bathroom. Dinner and breakfast were both good and a problem with a starter at Dinner was dealt with professionally and swiftly.

Review 19:I didn't feel a warmth or friendlyness from reception staff considering i could have stayed at the Hylton..the caterers and cleaners were the example of energy you want in a hotel..healthy smile and Hello makes a difference ☺ i Didnt realise customer services comes with *** star hotel.

Review 20:I liked the homely vibe about it..

Review 21:Transferred from international airport, to catch train and walked from station to accommodation. 1.5 hrs too early for check in and no refreshments were offered. Not very welcoming

Review 22:Single room with comfortable bed, spacious bathroom with good shower. Relatively quiet room, clean

Review 23:You can hear your neighbours, there tv and when folk ate walking in the corridor. Even with the window closed I could clearly hear the glass being thrown in the bin.

Review 24:Staff very welcoming, helpful and friendly.

Review 25:Booked this last minute and then found it was a venue hotel. Was alittleworried about possible noise but this is a split site hotel and we wereover the road away from the main part and had a really comfortable quietnights stay.

Review 26:The only thing I did not like was the noise from other guests late at night returning back to their rooms. Obviously this is out of the hotels control

Review 27:All members of staff were very friendly & helpful. The hotel is good value for money and breakfast is at an extra cost but worth paying the extra for.

Review 28:Kettle was a tad on the old fashioned side.

Review 29:The Beds! Oh my god i couldn't believe the quality of them. Absolutly amazing, cannot fault this hotel, everyone was very polite and helpful. Free parking which is a bonus

Review 30:First night was very noisy (room was on ground floor of annex, and there was a large amount to traffic through the area late at night). Rooms were comfy but a little tired and in need of sprucing up.

Review 31:Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 32:I didn't like that we weren't informed they were a split premises and that we didn't stay in the main hotel

Review 33:The hotel does what is says on the tin - functional and basic

Review 34:the staff have no manners when told of a problem , we stayed here twice and each time my word the noise from outside and within the hotel was a bloody joke , would not recommend this hotel to anyone only warn them of how it was for me .

Review 35:its close to our place of work .

Review 36:There was a function on the Friday Night and our room was right above the function room and we could not get to sleep because of the loud music

Review 37:The hotel was central

Review 38:Room was very dark as we looked out onto a wall luckily we were not there for the view

Review 39:Price of room, Shower lovely and hot, Tea and coffee, clean and tidy.

Review 40:Staff - Rude and un supportive Breakfast - very late Place - noisy Room - uncomfortable Facilities - poor

Review 41:They have a separate building where it is quite at night time. thank fully I got a room in that building.

Review 42:The bathroom door was awful- it was a feeble sliding door with no privacy due to large gaps around it. We were in room 1, directly above the kitchen vents (noisy) and where they threw empty bottles out at 1am! Limited parking when there are wedding parties.

Review 43:Stay was pleasant. Staff were nice. Room was cleaner than expected, due to the overall decour is tired looking. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits on the hospitality tray. Easy to get into town centre.

Review 44:I felt the single room (#2) had been, in the past, a room that had been smoked in, there was a mild smokey smell. Being above the kitchen, it made the room very warm and with air conditioning units outside, meant quite noisy at times, especially if/when windows open. The shower head needed cleaning. I could hear loud snoring from guests next door throughout the night.

Review 45:Welcoming staff The hotel served my purpose for my visit

Review 46:Incredibly noisy wedding party - no sleep till 1.30am and woken at 4.00 am by loud family packing up to go. Would not want to put up with that again.

Review 47:Excellent Service, excellent food.

Review 48:Carpets and decor very tired, and the carpets were not vacuumed in public area for the duration of our stay. Our room was also not up to the standard of cleanliness we would expect.

Review 49:We had to complain at one stage and it was dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Review 50:Weddings going on both days, so it was very noisy and on the Sunday we couldn't even use the garden. Room was small with tiny en suite almost impossible to get through between wall and sink.

Review 51:Food was excellent on the Saturday night, but was not so good on the Sunday night. Possibly chef was not in, but mine did not appear to be freshly prepared as on the Saturday.

Review 52:The room was tiny, the shower room was very small and the door was a sliding door and did not shut properly. The hand soap dispenser did not work all the time and the shower cubicle was so small you could not wash your lower half. The room was clean but very dingy and had a musky smell to it, like old carpets smell. We stayed in room 40 and there was a wedding or function in progress so the noise with the windows open in summer was head pounding, yet they ask you to keep your television (which was tiny) quiet for the sake of the other guests, which was impossible to hear unless you turned the volume up. I did ask if there was another room and they were apologetic but nothing they could do. upon returning to the room, the telephone rang and when I answered it didn't work. A few minutes later there was a knock at the door and the receptionist had an electric fan for us and said to close the windows and use that. The hotel security was very relaxed, we went out for a meal and as requested left the room key with reception, upon our return, after about a 5 minute wait a waitress came to reception and we asked for the key and she picked them up from a tray that was out in the open where in less time than that someone could have climbed through the reception hatch and stolen our keys. Yet they state clearly that they are not responsible for your items left in their rooms? So for us it was a very long night in what felt more like a bedsit in a slum, than the nice looking hotel feel, you first get when arriving. There are a lot better places to stay in Maidstone than this hotel and it would be better to spend a little more to get a lot more than to stay here. All hotels that have functions in progress on your stay should ask if your with the function group and if not offer you rooms that are not affected by the function noise, especially in these smaller hotels.

Review 53:It was convenient to Maidstone town center. The staff were polite and friendly. It looked nice in the on-line photo's but was older than expected.

Review 54:Not so keen on the stairs up to the room. Difficult with heavy cases. Very thin walls, could hear neighbours talking.

Review 55:Comfortable room. Bathroom not too small.

Review 56:Rooms booked changed and not suitable for person with limited mobility. Room service poor: no towels, bin not emptied and packet of biscuits had been opened.

Review 57:Breakfast

Review 58:This is clearly a popular wedding venue. Although the party was in full swing when we arrived in the evening it was not mad and by midnight everything stopped and no badly behaved guests! We had a good nights sleep.

Review 59:We needed an affordable bed for the night and this hotel turned out to be perfect. Free wifi kept my teenage sons happy, tea and coffee kept me happy and the room was an adequate size for us all. A 10 min walk into Maidstone was perfect.

Review 60:No faults

Review 61:Location of hotel was 5min from train station and near town centre Friendly welcome on arrival, helpful staff and the night manageress excellent, an asset to your hotel. Clean, fresh and tidy rooms, food also good

Review 62:Because of frequent parties and wedding receptions at night , late , most rooms are not quiet , and are not suitable for a good rest , which does not justify the high price . The owner , aware of this inconvenient , does not care for the noise created !

Review 63:Only the small shower room being a larger person was a bit uncomfortable

Review 64:The staff were very pleasant and helpful the food was excellent and so much choice and huge portions overall A1 experience

Review 65:The staff were extremely helpful but room was cramped and outdated. We did not have breakfast as my hospital was going into hospital at 8.00am. The hotel is also very noisy and we were unable to sleep well.

Review 66:The staff

Review 67:We didn't find the lovely garden seating until the morning of our departure. The stay would have been much more enjoyable had we been told it was there on arrival.

Review 68:Central location. Good service at breakfast. Comfortable bed.

Review 69:There was a long wait to check in only 1 member of staff on duty. The reception desk was dirty, coffee spillage on desk mat. The kitchen had run out of many breakfast products so couldn't eat as have Crohn's disease and requested a refund! The bedroom chair was threadbare and the room looks very tired.

Review 70:Breakfast could have had an extra member of staff as both mornings the two members were under pressure for the amount of customers that stayed!

Review 71:Hotel was nice & I enjoyed my stay! All the staff were helpful. Hotel was very comfatable & clean! Would definitely come back.

Review 72:Wouldn't let us check in 1 hr early without charging us. Very noisey in the evenings - music from the bar was loud.

Review 73:Bed was comfortable and room was compact but nice.

Review 74:Shower pressure was not good. No free WiFi.

Review 75:Comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast. Good proximity to rail station (Maidstone West) but taxi to concert location / Maidstone East.

Review 76:It was everything i needed for the one night stay. Courteous staff who organised my taxi upon my arrival. Hotel was in good order despite having work done to it.

Review 77:We were not advised of The 50th do that was on beneath our room which finished at 12.30. Also our friends in other 3 rooms Attwood and Gilbert paid cash for breakfast when they checked in that evening and my account has had £20 taken instead of £10 for room 18 for 2

Review 78:Comfortable and clean hotel and staff very friendly

Review 79:Not being in the main hotel. Had to go down the Road to another part of the hotel. When got there I had to walk up lots of stairs there was no lift. Very slow service for meals and bar due to not having enough staff on.

Review 80:The rooms were very nice meals good and they had a bar. The staff did a great job

Review 81:Hotel is spread over 3 properties was sent to a building down the road. More like a boarding house than a hotel. The shower was like a misting unit, even though in replies to previous reviews the manager stated this problem had been resolved, it has not. When trying to ring reception from the hallway phone it wasn't working. No apologies.

Review 82:Nothing.

Review 83:Nothing to not like.

Review 84:All the staff were super-friendly and smiling at all times. The exterior and the gardens were beautiful. The room was spacious and comfy and had all the extras.

Review 85:We have stayed here before but this time we were in the split site just down the road. I really did not think it was as nice as the main building and certainly not as clean.

Review 86:The location was great.

Review 87:No bad experience.

Review 88:It was close to Leeds Castle and a Night Porter was available when we were very late returning from the Open Air Concert. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 89:No light bulb in hair drying mirror. Loud music until 11.pm Shower not bath as requested No air conditioning so had to keep window open.

Review 90:convenient for town centre.

Review 91:Cigarette smoke drifting up and in through bedroom window from smokers standing outside front door. Had to keep window closed on warm evening.

Review 92:Friendly staff, clean room.

Review 93:Non-smoking room smelled of smoking. Disco, wedding party below room window and fireworks meant I didn't get to sleep until 1 am, and unfortunately had to leave st 6.

Review 94:Generally seemed fine.

Review 95:I enjoyed my stay but was disappointed that there was no bath in the bathroom.

Review 96:A nice little escape, we had a good nights sleep and the breakfast was nice too!

Review 97:Bed was horrible, small and uncomfortable. Bedding was clean but bottom valance had blood stains on...yuk. Bathroom seemed clean but the windowsill was filthy, and there were brown sticky marks on the wall...

Review 98:Location was ideal for visiting friends

Review 99:Very loud voices in corridor at 03.15am. Not the fault of the hotel, but inconsiderate guests.

Review 100:Excellent staff - nnothing was too much trouble. Good food and good service.

Review 101:Very loud voices in the corridor at 03.15am. Not the fault of the hotel, but inconsiderate guests.

Review 102:Excellent staff - nothing was too much trouble. We felt "at home".

Review 103:The short flights of stairs and fire doors. Very difficult if you have luggage or have difficulties walking. Dining tables scratched. Furniture shabby. Tasteless decor . Blood on Walls not cleaned of after 12 hours. Bedroom furniture de laminating and broken. Staff smoking area in full view of guests arriving from car park . Cigarette ends and rubbish on ground in this area, disgusting! Filthy ironing boards.

Review 104:You do not expect carpet in a hotel bath room in the year 2015. But however it was clean. It was a little bit noisy because of the pub.

Review 105:The room was clean and the staff was friendly. Free parking was provided and there were enough spaces.

Review 106:I didn't like anything about this place. Or the fact of been scammed.

Review 107:Nothing! I paid to stay in this 3 star hotel but then they put me down the road in the grange park hotel. Nothing like the pictures. A dump.

Review 108:no luggage storage room, although they will keep your luggage in their office if you ask ; 10 minutes plus walk to nearest train station (steeps make the walking harder)

Review 109:friendly staff, nice room and strong wifi

Review 110:Room was in a different building to the main hotel on the other side of the road. Relied upon guests pulling the front door properly closed for security of the building, as there were no staff there, which was just a bit strange. Rooms were small, and decor generally dated, felt as though it hadn't always been a hotel. The breakfast wasn't generous, but tastey enough. I wouldn't say it was brilliant value for money, but met my needs.

Review 111:Staff were very helpful and friendly, room was clean with everything I needed.

Review 112:I liked the 4 poster bed although it was very squeeky, the curtains on it were broken the shower was tiny the food had gone cold by the time I got it and tasted disguwting and I couldn't get WiFi to work on my laptop so won't be going here again a totally miserable time here. Oh yes and the manager/ receptionist was rude as had prior to booking. I had requested to arrive 2 hours earlier for booking when I got there she insisted I hadn't put it on but I have proof on my phone which is an extra cost they don't tell u this before u book and u feel abliged to have to pay it or your walking around with heavy bags. X also I mentioned to the chef via waitress that I have an allergy intolerance and the chef chucked cheese crisps on my plate which i cant have and even the seasoning can affect my allergy, he had cross contaminated my pannini to which the chef replied I forgot. X

Review 113:I liked the fact that I had a 4 poster bed. And furniture in there.

Review 114:First room was over bar very noisey also staff noise? Early morning.

Review 115:Once moved from first room stay was OK. WiFi not so good as first room.but it was comfortable.

Review 116:I ordered salad, which would have been pretty good if there had been the offer of a dressing other than Salad Cream. It aint the 1950s. Amazing to still find such naivete that thinks this is OK.

Review 117:Clean modern efficient with courteous helpful and good value

Review 118:The breakfast room was a total disaster I clouding the good. There was no organisation, no one to tell you what to do , the wAitress was all over the place. The food was a disgrace. The sausages were filled with water . The water tasted stagnant. Totally disgraceful.

Review 119:WiFi was weak.

Review 120:Convenient location though perhaps not the nicest part of town. Plenty of car parking. Very pleasant staff, comfortable bedroom and very good food. Compliments to the chef. Very reasonable cost.

Review 121:We were in the guest house across the road from the hotel. They didn't service are room. We stayed 2 nights but should have still done housekeeping.

Review 122:Staff was friendly. Loads of parking at both sites. Food was excellent and pleasant size bar area.

Review 123:That you think you are booking into the main hotel and then get placed in building down road which doesn't resemble a hotel more like hostel no staff on premises most rooms occupied by eastern Europe contractors

Review 124:The breakfast was excellent and staff only in main hotel very helpful

Review 125:The room a good size bathroom was tiny dirty toilet cleaned it with brush and it went so it hadn't been cleaned properly and noisy as it's and old property

Review 126:The staff were great nothing was a problem

Review 127:Room a little small.

Review 128:Breakfast good value and variety. Extremely attentive and courteous waitresses and cleaning staff.Bus into town centre 1 minute away on Upper Fannt Road.

Review 129:The large group events on both Saturday and Sunday nights were totally unacceptable, especially on Sunday when a large, noisy party made dinner and afterwards a ghastly experience. You should organise your accommodation so as to separate totally such events from your normal clientele. We shall not stay again until this is arranged.

Review 130:Breakfast.

Review 131:I did not like the way other guest treated the staff and felt that on the night i wittnessed this behaviour, it was not the staff's fault, due to an event taking place they really needed 2 people behind the bar and one on the floor whilst the buffett was being put out. Unfortunatly there was only 1 on floor and one behind the bar and 1 member staff in reception.

Review 132:The Staff at this hotel are fabulous and I have to say the Food is really good. The staff dealt with difficult guests in a professinal way and delivered the best service they could. Your Hotel in my view should be a Four Star, not 3 Star.

Review 133:No wifi in my room -- signal just too weak, so could only use my laptop in public rooms. Also, no fridge (I'd rather have a fridge than a TV...)

Review 134:Plentiful tea, coffee, milk in room -- I drink about ten cups of tea a day, and it was nice not to run out by midday.

Review 135:My heart sank when I saw a board outside requiring a Chef !! The Sunday Carvery was the worst I have ever had , and I could not eat it I was embarassed as I had asked my son to join me __Oh how I wish we had gone out !!! In the week I decided to have Lasagne ,it was all pasta and sauce with about a tablespoon of mince , and a couple of very tired looking salad leaves ___No I am not exaggerating !!!!After that I ate out !!!!sorry but this was the case ___

Review 136:Everyone was very helpful and the room was lovely _nothing was too much trouble for the "cleaning Lasses "

Review 137:My brother in law was disabled and although the room was accessible the shower facilities were not. He could not get inside the cubicle. the receptionist that was on duty on our arrival could have been a little friendlie.

Review 138:The waitresses were really nice and the food was good, however there could ha e been a little more variation of menu.

Review 139:Basic Hotel but adequate. Not impressed that my booking was 150m down road from reception having lugged my bags to reception. This should be pointed out upon booking.

Review 140:Cost £100 cheaper than Premier Inn. Hotel needs updating

Review 141:There was nothing to dislike

Review 142:This is a real value for money hotel. The evening meal was extremely good as was the breakfast and there was a friendly atmosphere ideal if like me you are travelling alone on business

The Fine Print

Please note the Grange Moor Hotel has two sites, and your room may be allocated in either building. The Grange Moor Hotel is a popular venue for functions and weddings particularly during the weekend, and some functions might have music which may be heard from some rooms, but the music finishes at midnight.Should you prefer a quieter room, please call the hotel to check whether there will be a function with music during your stay and if so to be allocated to a quieter room if available.
