Reviews for Overton Grange Country Hotel

Review 1:Nothing, loved it all

Review 2:Hotel is beautifully furnished, rooms are comfortable and clean. The restaurant is amazing, the food is absolutely delicious. Staff are really friendly and attentive. Basically, a perfect weekend getaway.

Review 3:We were in room 17. We had a small, lumpy double bed, tiny bathroom with a step up to the toilet! bad plumbing, triton low pressure shower, black mould-like marks on ceiling above shower, rust marks on chrome shower attachments, endless trickling noises each time the toilet was flushed, and noisy ventilation. We paid above the odds for the room because it was the Christmas period, we booked early, and nevertheless, we felt that we got a very rough deal. Outside of the house wines, the majority of wines on the wine card for the restaurant were also pretty expensive.

Review 4:Haddock & poached egg for breakfast; friendly staff; lovely countryside & grounds. Attractive lounge & restaurant.

Review 5:No use of pool on first day due to filter problem. Also had room over the kitchen so a bit noisy with fridge going off and on at night.

Review 6:Staff friendly and helpful, and fantastic food in restaurant.

Review 7:Paying for a suite and only getting an ordinary bedroom, dog only allowed in 1 small lounge and bedroom, Booking.com and the hotel should make their pet policy more detailed

Review 8:Ambience and old world feel

Review 9:The shower was occasionally lukewarm and the pressure was limited. It took a long time to fill a bath.

Review 10:The dining experiences were sublime - we had stayed 6 years before, and returned to enjoy the delicious food and excellent location to Ludlow.

Review 11:Dinner was expensive and service slow. Pool was very cold so we couldn't swim and that was a big disappointment. We did comment on this to the staff there.

Review 12:Staff were very friendly and helpful, location and parking good.

Review 13:Limited choice on very over priced menu. No lunch time services. Bedrooms badly in need of refurbishment, mould issues in bathroom. Very old fashioned.

Review 14:Nice grounds and locations, could have plenty of potential but needs investment in bedrooms and bathrooms.

Review 15:DINNER LACKED CHOICE AND IMAGINATION (IE ONLY NOUVEAU CUISIN E, POORLY COOKED AND PRESENTED) WITH SAME MENU EVERY NIGHT AND GROSSLY OVER PRICED FOR WHAT ONE GOT!

Review 16:The room was dirty and I've seen better mattresses on top of a skip. The swimming pool should be advertised as a plunge pool. I paid my bill and wrote an email to the manager which has been ignored.

Review 17:Location was good, staff were nice.

Review 18:full english breakfast was disappointing, no beans on menu and i didnt have 3 items so was expecting something as a replacement but when breakfast came i had 1 sausage, 1 bacon and 1 egg. my work colleague was presented with 1 sausage and 1 bacon, i asked if that was all we were getting and the waitress went and got us some more bacon and sausages cooked.

Review 19:nice location, very quiet

Review 20:Guests didn't use the lounge and bar while we were there, which meant there was no atmosphere. The bar prices were rather high , but probably the main reason for the reluctance of guests to use these facilities was the expensive evening menu.

Review 21:The hotel was comfortable and pleasantly decorated. The staff were efficient, friendly and polite. There was a good choice of breakfast.

Review 22:Grout in the shower was mouldy, hot water came out of the cold tap and cooked breakfast came out cold. If we'd had more time we would have sent it back to the kitchen but unfortunately we were in a rush.

Review 23:Staff were very friendly and efficient. Hotel was very quiet.

Review 24:Not very business friendly - No breakfast until 8am! - Pool opens at 8am and closes at 7pm. When do you get a chance to use it? Poor selection of Bar Meals -

Review 25:Nothing!

Review 26:The food at the restaurant was absolutely delicious, this is the second time we've eaten in the restaurant and it was as good as we had remembered. Definitely the highlight of our trip! The bar area was so relaxing and calm to have a drink and spend the afternoon. Also, the swimming pool is lovely, much warmer than it was last time, and the sauna is a great addition, just remember to ask to have it turned on before your trip to the pool! Breakfast was also delicious!

Review 27:The beds made impossible to sleep. I hope they will fix the problem after I told them, but that was not good for us. The beds were uneven. You laid in one side and ended on the other. Could not sleep face up because alf of you body was at a different level then the other. You tried to sleep side ways but could not do that either because your body was at two different levels. TERRIBLE.

Review 28:Beautiful location, very nice building. Great dinner, although a little over priced. But it was worth just because of the atmosphere and the service by the staff. Everything was great and will be geat if they change some of their beds.

Review 29:Evening menu very limited and overpriced. Don`t agree with paying 10% service charge, I will tip if I feel service and meal of good standard.

Review 30:Quiet and scenic location. Breakfast excellent. Staff very pleasant and helpful

Review 31:The water in the swimming pool was very cold - did not like the fact there was no shower in the changing room. No biscuits with the hospitality tray.

Review 32:We enjoyed the quietness, but only 1 other couple in the dining room - was too quiet.

Review 33:Uncomfortable mattress (a little too hard) on single beds room 10.

Review 34:Wonderful location & room with stunning views. Lovely swimming pool & the water was a perfect temperature.

Review 35:Lack of changes to menu. Informed it was changed every three months! Lack of management. I.e small faults unattended to. Iron burns on carpets. Staircase carpets not vacuumed. Bathroom door to ensuite would not close and lock. Mattress on four poster very uncomfortable.

Review 36:Proximity to Ludlow. Country outlook. Indoor swimming pool.

Review 37:It would have been nice to take all meals at the hotel, but with onlyone menu ( quite expensive) all the guests I met took most, if not all,of their meals else where. If one is taking a 3 course a-la-carte mealin the evening, it would be good to take a lighter meal at lunch time, particularly if swimming in the afternoon. Children are simply notcatered for, so I found myself spending several hundred pounds outsidethe hotel, what a shame! Breakfast was very good, but the marmalade wasreserved to the central table so that one had to get up from the tablewith every piece of toast; the teapots were incredibly heavy and my wifeand aged father- in- law simply could not lift them. The evening mealdisappointed , it was necessary to return 3 out of 5 meals because theveal was overcooked; very surprising considering the hotel's boastsabout its dining experience. The bedroom décor was tired with somefurniture badly marked. I actually asked at reception if I hadmistakenly booked an economy room. Electrical fittings in the bathroomwere dangerous ;appliances were not in compliance with zoningrequirements and a switch was placed immediately next to the bath (couldbe fatal); behind the bathroom electrical radiator was filthy, holding acollection of human hair and detritus which looked as though it hadcollected over several years. There were cobwebs hanging from thebedroom ceiling and the television was almost at floor level making itimpossible to see it from the bed; we actually had to use a bedsidetable to raise the tv to a point where we could see it. The externalswere clearly neglected with all seating and tables filthy dirty. Shame! It would have been nice to sit and enjoy the lovely views.

Review 38:The staff were charming, obliging and very helpful. The common areaswere very comfortable and conducive to a relaxing stay. In the main thehotel was quite charming. The pool was fresh and clean, shame the waterwas quite cold. Breakfast was very good.

Review 39:Shower head was too low on the wall and difficult to use. Robe or towels for the pool/spa would have been good at location and also lockers rather than having to use towels from the room - just would have be a nice touch and more hygenic after sauna use. Room safe would be good for valuables. Limited crockery at breakfast buffet e.g. bowls Property felt a bit tired decor and attention wise.

Review 40:Front desk staff helpfulness and knowledge of area. Pool and spa onsite. Good breakfast choice

Review 41:Portions for dinner were very small and didn't provide much vegetable/fruit; breakfasts ordinary; no cocktails available. No shower in en-suite. No Wi-Fi in room only in small lounge that seated 8 - 6 of these around 1 coffee table.

Review 42:Dinner had good flavours. Courteous staff.

Review 43:A minute portion of haddock which did not seem particularly fresh, and a very long wait to receive it. Cold toast beforehand.

Review 44:Public rooms and swimming pool, the quiet ambiance and the addition of ornaments in the room to make it seem homely. The carefully chosen and displayed breakfast buffet.

Review 45:My brother was charged for the full 5 days he had booked even though he had left without staying: he didn't like the rooms. There was no Duty Manager to whom he could complain and get a refund. He could be expected (perhaps) to pay for one night but all 5 - ridiculous.

Review 46:The pool and the sauna. The bed was good too.

Review 47:Lovely relaxing nights stay after a busy day in ludlow, hotel staff very courteous and helpful room clean and comfortable and the food was simply fantastic. Very pleasing stay

Review 48:Only drawback was trying (unsuccessfully) to get a taxi on a Sunday night back from Ludlow. Definitely need to book your taxi in advance.

Review 49:The staff were very polite and helpful. The breakfast was very good. Lovely and peaceful. Beautiful countryside.

Review 50:Bedroom and bathroom extremely cramped and suitable only for single occupancy. Dinner menu quite limited and was not adequate for those with a larger appetite, and was not worth the charge of forty pounds.

Review 51:The staff here were very helpful and welcoming and quick to sort any problems.

Review 52:Beware room 23. It's directly over the kitchen. Intermittent fridge hum throughout the night; cooking smells if you open the window. Water pressure too low for hand-held shower to work above waist height.

Review 53:This is a lovely quiet, comfortable, traditional hotel with fantastic views across Shropshire countryside. Attentive staff, relaxing public areas, good swimming pool. Breakfast (and food generally) high quality.

Review 54:The bed was extremely uncomfortable and did not reflect how the rooms are promoted on the hotel website. However, having spoken to the management there, who were most sympathetic, we are very satisfied with the way they dealt with the issue..

Review 55:The location, the staff, the decor, the bar area, the pool, the views... all fantastic and would recommend highly!

Review 56:Wi Fi in bedrooms would have been appreciated, also on a practical note the "hot" water was rather on the cool side; a few degrees warmer would have made a big difference, especially for shaving.Would have preferred double duvets even on single beds.

Review 57:Excellent location, good parking, Comfortable lounges, good breakfast. Helpful and welcoming staff.

Review 58:Not enough staff to attend the bar, attend the dinning room an reception. En-suite no traditional shower, only hand held. toilet cistern faulty. No lift to upper floors.

Review 59:Quiet, gardens were nice to sit in. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was good.

Review 60:Nothing worth mentioning.

Review 61:This typical Edwardian small English country hotel is set in large, attractive grounds a few minutes drive outside the magnificently preserved medieval town of Ludlow in the rolling landscape of Shropshire. The staff are enthusiastic, friendly and efficient. Dinner and breakfast were very good. No hesitation recommending Overton Grange for a short stay.

Review 62:The wifi didn't reach our room, but was fine in the beautiful sitting room.

Review 63:Roland at the desk was helpful about what to see in Ludlow. The place is in a beautiful setting. The breakfast was outstanding - try the blueberry pancakes !

Review 64:The bed was bad !! I thought the war was over as rationing the breakfast wasn't good but what was there was good just needed more.

Review 65:The location is great, easy to find and lovely grounds.

Review 66:The hotel has grown organically so it is very higgledy-piggledy with some rooms being a long and convoluted climb from reception. The water system suffers too with low pressure and warm 'cold' water. The restaurant food focuses more on presentation than quality with small portions and some questionable combinations of texture and flavour.

Review 67:The staff were great - very friendly and helpful. Our two dogs were welcomed and, though there are no special provisions made for pets, the only (perfectly reasonable) restrictions were on taking them into the dining areas. The hotel is nicely situated in a parkland setting and there are plenty of walks in the nearby forest. The interior wasn't to our taste but it was clean and comfortable.

Review 68:WiFi is only available on the ground floor. Because I have a bad back, I found the bed a little soft but others will no doubt find it just right.

Review 69:The staff were very good and the location was great. The restaurant's fixed price menu was excellent.

Review 70:Too far to walk into Ludlow which had been our original plan although owner said it was a 20 minutes walk it was far longer than that and it was a good job we actually drove in on our first trip. We would have stayed put for evening meal if price had been right but £39.95 each was just too much for us. I know the owner was French and had received Michelin star recommendation but to pay this would have put and overnight stay just too much.

Review 71:Lovely hotel in its own grounds very clean and comfortable with its own pool.

Review 72:Lack of staff, rang bell for service, sometimes rang, nobody appeared. It was very quite, not many there, beautiful setting though. Breakfast nice, small, for the price really, but they are happy to provide extra toast, if you ask!!!. Did not eat in the restaurant, we made other plans, but never saw anybody in there while we stayed.

Review 73:Pool

Review 74:No wifi - or of there was there was no mention of it or details of passwords - we didn't ask to be honest, so there may have been. But we did enjoy not getting emails for an evening.

Review 75:The staff were all exceptionally polite, friendly and helpful. It was lovely to have the pool and sauna all to ourselves on Friday evening and the food was delicious. We would definitely recommend it

Review 76:very uncomfortable bed.Really cheap mattress and too much of piped music.Drove me mad.

Review 77:the food in the evening but the cooked breakfast was a dissapointment

Review 78:The mattresses were poor, the teabags were poor. It is a very, very long walk to Ludlow, the platter of melon looked like it had been put out three days in a row.

Review 79:Mattresses were too hard for us, and in our room (10) the central heating pipes clicked noisily as they expanded/contracted, disrupting our sleep

Review 80:Food was good - well resented and beautifully cooked.

Review 81:We arrived at 8:00 pm and were told that there was almost no food left in the restaurant so we had a bar meal, which was good, but we think the staff just wanted to go home early

Review 82:Gorgeous view across the fields to the Shropshire countryside

Review 83:That I could not use the spa facilities unless I booked in advance but there's no list of treatments and prices on the Internet to check ahead so I enquires on the day and was told they had to be pre- booked

Review 84:Staff helpful even helped with luggage from car to room, enjoyed the ambiance at night having drink in the lounge also used the pool very relaxing. Valius was extremely friendly

Review 85:Not a bad experience as such, but I would have liked a proper shower - the attachment was difficult to manoeuvre, and not effective.

Review 86:The views, the standard of care, excellent housekeeping.

Review 87:Exhorbitant Restaurant @ £42.50 each for fixed menu. WiFi only available in lounge not in rooms.

Review 88:Comfortable lounge, nice location. Friendly and helpful staff

Review 89:The cost and quality of the sandwich we had on room service in the evening. Well over priced. We paid £8 each for a basic cheese sandwich! The water pressure in the shower wasn't very good either, very weak.

Review 90:Speed of internet and the quality of breakfast

Review 91:Unfortunately the mattress on the bed was very uncomfortable so we had a very poor night sleep, hopefully after advising the staff this will be rectified.

Review 92:Friendly staff and a warm welcome, lovely views.

Review 93:Loved the established home feel so relaxing not to see stark notices everywhere plus check in and out was super simple. The staff are unobtrusive and helpful ideal for those looking for a break away from a busy and stressful routine. The food is absolutely excellent with complimentary surprise dishes a very scrumptious and generous personal touch.

Review 94:I found the ease of getting in and out of the bath/shower was not very safe. It was fitted too high to easily climb in and out of so that it could result in falling or slipping on to the tiled area. I am physically able but felt unsafe without help.

Review 95:We found the room / bed comfortable.

Review 96:The dinner was not amazing. The lamb was a bit over cooked and the cheese cake unfortunately didn't taste like one but the rest was pretty nice. Overall dinner was nice but not worth the value we paid for it.

Review 97:The room and staff were perfect

Review 98:Food not enough to fill a 2 year old, staff don't care and talk about you so you can hear them, then when disputed cost of few morsels of food was told I must shop at Lidl-this was meant to imply it was all I could afford

Review 99:The hotel was in a nice location and clean comfortable room

Review 100:I liked the pool area but the pool was very cold, no heated pool like it stated.

Review 101:Loved the location and the appearance. We stayed in the four poster suite and room was lovely.

Review 102:Welcoming and friendly staff in a comfortable hotel with country house ambience. Breakfast was well presented with a good choice and the set evening meal was expensive but a culinary delight!

Review 103:It seemed a bit tacky to charge extra for towels and a robe when we were hotel guests and were paying (a lot) for spa treatments.

Review 104:Really comfortable beds, great service. Amazing food. Lovely facilities.

Review 105:couldn't find anything wrong, would stay there again

Review 106:quiet weekend for birthday, room was perfect, staff were very nice and friendly, food was amazing, only a few others staying there so had sauna and pool to ourselves it was all round the perfect getaway

Review 107:As it was explained to me wi-fi in the area is a problem. I was surprised that it was not a secure site though. It was a shame that it was not freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast and that the hotel was so quiet. If it had been busier I would have stayed another night

Review 108:The staff were very welcoming and professional. As soon as I had the canapes I knew the food would be impressive - it was. The room was very clean and comfortable but a little cold.

Review 109:Room very small and tired looking, no shower only handset on bath taps. Wi-fi very restricted, if they want to restrict access to a large number of sites to stop their staff accessing them it punishes residents. The excuses they gave about security were rubbish.

Review 110:Breakfast was good.

Review 111:the evening meal, to much fancy dressings and not enough food for the price. the beef such as it was, was excellent.

Review 112:the availability of a pool and steam room

Review 113:The beds were terrible. The mattresses were very uncomfortable, had no padding and we could feel all the springs. The pillows were lop-sided and couldn't be made to be even - my wife had a sore neck the following morning. And the "shower" attachment was fixed to the wall at mid-chest height, which made it impossible to shower properly or wash our hair.

Review 114:The staff at breakfast were very polite and the breakfast itself was very good quality.

Review 115:Over charged - we asked for rather less food for our elderly mother and were charged almost the full amount for just one starter - we felt this was unfair as we had spent quite a lot. A bit of goodwilll would have been kinder.

Review 116:The food was outstanding. Staff friendly and swimming pool/spa very good.

Review 117:I didn't like the choice for dinner and I thought it seemed very expensive(we ate out)

Review 118:It was pleasant and peaceful. There was a swimming pool a bar and restaurant but we didn't use any of these facilities

Review 119:Their internet and TV is sub par. As I normally need access to internet for work, their internet is lacking and really needs an upgrade.

Review 120:Quiet, awesome view and really a nice place to stay at. Staff is great and I enjoy staying there every time I am in town.

Review 121:The bedroom especially the bathroom were not warm enough itcwasxa particularly cold spell. Sadly only three people staying midweek so rest. had no atmosphere. Menu a lot of game which not to my particular taste so although everything very well presented not a lot of choice for me

Review 122:The staff were all very good and a pleasure to deal with.

Review 123:We have stayed in many, many hotels in the UK and Europe but have never, ever stayed in a hotel that insists that you have Dinner in the hotel restaurant on one evening during your weekend stay! We only noticed the "Fine Print" disclosure at the bottom of the booking form on Booking.com informing us of this a few weeks after we had actually booked. We were a party of 4 including 2 octogenarians who understandably at their age find A La Carte dining too fussy, as they prefer their food wholesome and plain, to find out that they had no choice other than what was on the 3 course menu was rather disappointing....and expensive! for them,The food was excellent with lots of additional courses but I think if you are to insist that Dinner must be taken at the hotel you should at least offer a choice other than "Fine Dining "

Review 124:Staff were attentive and friendly, food was excellent

Review 125:Honestly can't think of anything

Review 126:Lovely, quiet country house hotel. Fabulous staff who were attentive, but not overly so. Excellent restaurant, not cheap but well worth it for a special occasion

Review 127:The bed was too small. The TV didnt work all the time. There was no bath. The shower room was very small. There was no hot chocolate in the tea/coffee box. £145 per night was far too high for such a pokey room. The shower had little water pressure.

Review 128:The staff were excellent. They were friendly and made a fuss of our dog. The service was great. Breakfast was very good. The grounds were really nice. The off road parking facillities were close to the hotel and secure. Overall cleanliness in the hotel was outstanding. We will go back, but not to room 17. It was horrible!

Review 129:Nothing

Review 130:Peaceful location. Small hotel so it was quiet. Superb evening meal. Polite, efficient staff. Tea making facilities in room. Luxuriously comfortable bed. Heater tucked away in wardrobe in case we were cold (which we weren't)

Review 131:THE FOOD overpriced and very restricted and same menu for three consecutive dinners. Please some more down to earth choices!!!!!!!!!!

Review 132:Pool but water needed to be warmer The building The breakfast

Review 133:An expensive meal that was nicely presented being served luke warm. There were 4 of us and we all disliked the cool food. Spoilt what would have been a lovely evening.

Review 134:Open fire and comfortable settees. Nice location with good views over open countryside.

Review 135:the bath in our room was raised, which made getting in and out a bit difficult (you need long legs!).

Review 136:The food is outstanding - possibly the best meal I have ever eaten! The staff were very attentive and helpful, without being in any way intrusive. Lovely, beautifully decorated and very comfortable hotel and very good value for money.

Review 137:The food choice in the restaurant was limited and a bit grandiose for business travellers so I chose not to eat there but I was offered an omelette which was delicious so not a negative just some advice,

Review 138:Lovely hotel in a quiet location with very nice helpful staff. The bedroom was comfortable and clean and bottled water was provided and that's a real positive.

Review 139:The beds were a bit hard (personal preference of course) and my husband felt that the main course of the set menu in the restaurant could have been a bit more generous.

Review 140:The close proximity to Ludlow, the lovely clean swimming pool that was not too hot so I could swim for exercise, the log fire in the bar/lounge area, the little surprise courses added to the set menu, the view from our bedroom, the peace and quiet, the friendly staff.

Review 141:Hotel not very warm in all areas but especially pool area. Food nice but expensive needs more variety of choice. Bed hard and uncomfortable. No proper shower in room.

Review 142:Very nice hotel and staff friendly. Liked the swimming pool to relax after a day sightseeing. Food nice.

Review 143:We didn't have a bath in our bathroom which was a bit disappointing, the shower wasn't very good as the shower head wasn't great & it didn't get hot enough.

Review 144:Lovely hotel in a very nice situation. Nice clean room. Good choice for breakfast & the full English that we ordered was very tasty. We enjoyed the use of the pool & sauna.
