Reviews for The Stag Hotel

Review 1:Poor quality room and very soft bed. Mould in the bathroom and shower. Wallpaper peeling off and damp patches have tried to be covered up. Breakfast was ok.

Review 2:In a good position in Moffat and free parking

Review 3:due to our room location we found the noise level until the pub closed very loud. No wifi was disappointing.

Review 4:Restaurant food is excellent and good value. Staff are friendly, helpful and customer focused.

Review 5:Mattress was a little soft for me but I have a bad back so I am picky. Good bed linen and warm rug though

Review 6:Upgraded our room to double twin beds free of charge. Said we could use the better room as they were quiet that evening. Staff all pleasant. Hotel bar was the busiest in Moffat.

Review 7:The breakfast was a big disappointment. It was a reasonable portion but seemed to taste slightly gelatinous, as if undercooked. We received four half slices of toast (two each) and were not offered more. There was no choice either, it was white bread. The staff were friendly enough but seemed to lack enthusiasm. Two years ago I visited and stayed in the same room. Both of the shaver lights in the room failed to work, same as two years ago. Finally, I found a toothbrush under the bed and the general cleanliness of the room was poor, particularly the walk in shower.

Review 8:The Stag is a small but warm and friendly place and seems popular with tourists. The clientele seems more my age group.

Review 9:Mix up over kitchen closing time. I was told food ends at 9pm. When I asked for a menu at 8:40 I was told the kitchen had closed. It was resolved and I did get food but I'd rather not have had to argue to get it.

Review 10:Location, food, beer!

Review 11:Unfortunately the room wasn't as quite as I'd expected and the breakfast was served later than I'd asked for. But in all fairness this was the morning after the night before. That being Halloween and they had had a band in the bar and the staff we a little late getting in

Review 12:The location was fabulous the room was warm and clean as was the bed lineb

Review 13:breakfast ordered for 8 o`clock but chef had not arrived. member of staff on site did not seem to bothered. left without breakfast which we had at a motorway service

Review 14:nothing to shout about

Review 15:nothing

Review 16:love location , staff are exellent, very fiendly , very welcoming , food is very fullfiling ..!! and dissapionted not to be going back this december for hogmany !!

Review 17:The room was double booked when we arrived and even though the owners son tried hard to save the day by offering as a room in his own house we declined and checked into another hotel down the street which boasts itself as being one of the better hotels in the area and which has its own private car parts at the front but it wasn't very good and which left a bad taste in our mouths.

Review 18:Not applicable

Review 19:i didnt like the fact there was loud music and screaming and shouting until 3am ,i didnt speak to a single adult member of staff as it seemed to be run by children. i should of stayed for 2 nights but ended up leaving after 1 as the following night was just as bad so i left at 9pm and drove 200 miles home ,when i should have been at the wedding in the hotel next door, total disapointment

Review 20:the location of the hotel was really nice ,and i was served breakfast by a very polite helpfull young man

Review 21:The room needed some attention - peeling wallpaper and a lot of dust under furniture. Mould in shower and the shower head itself was really dirty - needs replacing. Room was quite cold - no heating on.

Review 22:Staff very friendly and the food really good

Review 23:No bad experiences. Room just needed a coat of paint. No big deal though. Still enjoyed our stay.

Review 24:Staff really helpful, bed comfy, meals great, location great. Really friendly atmosphere in bar area.

Review 25:State of the bathroom ,black mould & poor shower. Noise from the street & other guests , could hear someone next door snoring.

Review 26:The location & view, helpfulness /friendliness of staff, white linen, good cooked breakfast, room pretty well equipped , plenty of tea, coffee & biscuits .

Review 27:General condition of room was extremely poor.No lights to go to bed with also no shower because of power fault within property and no apology for any inconvenience.

Review 28:Hotel is in an excellent position

Review 29:Single rooms are usually tiny and poorly equipped, This was small, but had an adequate shower room, good toiletries and everything a traveller would need, including a good hospitality tray. Hardworking young lad checked me in, and the next morning served my breakfast. Impressed.

Review 30:Only a minor moan, I could not connect to wi fi even when I was staring at the modem.

Review 31:Staff were all very friendly, facilities were exactly what I expected, in all, very good.

Review 32:Just the size of the room Also the tv didn't work

Review 33:The location is perfect the staff couldn't have been nicer and the breakfast in the morning was lovely

Review 34:Very close to bar so lots of noise/music. Issue with shower was sorted next day and compensated for inconvenience.

Review 35:Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was spacious for my family. Breakfast was really good.

Review 36:The room we had was not very big and rather shabby which was ok for the one night we were staying but we wouldn't have liked to have spent a week there. If all the bedrooms are like this they are in need of some refurbishment.

Review 37:The staff were very friendly and the hotel was clean. The evening meal in the restaurant was very good and they had an acoustic night on afterwards (Thursdays)which was very enjoyable.

Review 38:Bed not the comfiest in the world but that may just be me !!

Review 39:Excellent restruant and a lovely wee place to stay we have been twice &. Will defenetly be back !!

Review 40:Can be noisy if people get up very early, also noise of shower pump and fan can be heard through walls.

Review 41:Excellent value for a nights stopover close to the M74

Review 42:Evening Meal was good - breakfast good too. The Bedroom and Shower Room were clean and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It was good to have both a pub type bar and a games room. So many hotels in Scotland lack this type of friendly facility.

Review 43:Difficulty with TV remote - eventually resolved! Friday night hotel entertainment music - however finished at a reasonable hour.

Review 44:Location with a fine view of the high street from our bedroom, with good free parking right outside and a peaceful breakfast in the dining room.

Review 45:A step back into the 70's. Terrible decor. Terrible shower. Not certain the bedding had been changed. Shame. Back to big chain hotels for me. This place is truly hideous.

Review 46:Breakfast. Sky HD in room.

Review 47:Noisy roadside family room. Poor bed quality, far too soft that you sunk into the middle (I'm only 11 stone). Tiny bathroom. Leaking windows. Kids allowed to run around the bar area. Not being asked on check out how my stay was.

Review 48:Good food, reasonable prices. Good cask ales. Friendly atmosphere. Beautiful Village with plenty going on.

Review 49:there was nothing not to like

Review 50:the staff were great, the food in the pub was to die for, the service was great. the location of the pub in the high street , easy to get to and was in the right location, you could travail an any were from it. higher up or lower down, easy to reach from the motorway you could not get a better place to stay..

Review 51:Not a complaint, but I forgot to check if ensuite was shower or bath - it was a shower and limited space made it a little tricky showering small children, but still manageable. A light above the mirror (either in the shower room or above the sink) would be really useful, as would some hooks to hang towels/clothes in the shower room.

Review 52:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Beds were very comfortable. Great view up the High Street from our room. Sky TV in the room delighted my children, as did the hot chocolate and biscuits provided! Breakfast was tasty and I really liked having the choice of a cooked vegetarian option.

Review 53:Room quite compact and a little tired.

Review 54:Great location just off the motorway and right in the high street with parking right outside, Enjoyed a light lunch and a good dinner in the restaurant which is away from the busy bar, Staff were great.

Review 55:Didn't like the Luke warm tea in the restaurant think they need a new urn

Review 56:We stayed in the suite it was a nice surprise clean and cozy food was good

Review 57:Although not a big problem the shower room ceiling was in need of damp treatment and redecoration

Review 58:Traditional Scottish small hotel/pub The Steak at supper was excellent and lost cost but good wines .Ideal place to break journey in small historical town with interesting privately owned shops

Review 59:Ceiling in the bathroom was disgusting - Covered in black mould

Review 60:Loved this hotel. Excellent location, staff very friendly and food brilliant. Would stay here again but would ask for a bathroom with a clean ceiling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 61:breakfast started a little late for my preference

Review 62:the food - macaroni cheese to die for the staff - I arrived dripping wet, they were really helpful the beer!

Review 63:Nothing of any note, can't fault the friendliness of everyone in the hotel

Review 64:Our family suite was great, two double beds so plenty of space. Loads of coffees teas biscuits and milks. Our meal was was freshly prepared and the service from young Max in the dining room was superb. Had a great night in the bar, lively atmosphere and met loads of new friends who were there for a wedding. Will definitely go back when we go back in November.

Review 65:The shower wasn't brilliant but it didn't detract from a brilliant stay.

Review 66:They didn't mind that we had an 8 week old baby and put us in a room where we wouldn't disturb anyone and where we wouldn't be disturbed. The breakfast was lovely and aero hot choc in the room was great.

Review 67:good location, plenty of parking, the staff were very friendly and helpful, plenty to do in village and loads to see in the area. a good base to explore the region. the food at the hotel was excellent.

Review 68:Unfortunately as we stayed on a Saturday night there was some noise on the street however this could be seen as our fault as not to join them in celebrating the weekend :)

Review 69:The hospitality was exemplary Staff made a genuine effort to make you feel welcomed Good quality food at a fair price

Review 70:Decor is tired, shower grouting could do with a clean. No white toast available on two out of three days at breakfast. Single room was quite cramped, but I slept well, though other doors slamming caused disturbance.

Review 71:The people are very friendly and helpful and food was fresh and of good quality. Excellent service, especially at the evening meal.

Review 72:Bedroom possibly a bit small, but we were only staying one night

Review 73:Staff professionalism Staff friendly Food Relaxed environment Accepted dogs Bed comfortable

Review 74:The family suite in the annexe next door has very poor sound insulation so check whether there is a function when you book - on the night we stayed there was a singer and it felt as though we were sleeping (or rather, not sleeping) on the dance floor. The hotel was very apologetic about it the next day. A net curtain at the window wouldn't go amiss, either.

Review 75:Excellent food and really friendly, helpful staff, beds and pillows were comfortable. Handy stop off from the motorway with the added bonus of being in a lovely town with excellent facilities and a beautiful location. The restaurant was popular with great daily specials - the fish chowder was particularly good.

Review 76:My room was above the bar - thankfully sat night disco finished at 1am Mattress a bit 'tired'

Review 77:Location Food Bar atmosphere Sky TV in room Staff

Review 78:I have no comment.

Review 79:My friend and I had comfortable single rooms. Decor wee bit tired but very clean. I have never stayed at such a good value hotel. Breakfast lovely and had vegetarian option. Moffat such lovely place. I would definitely recommend it.

Review 80:We had the fire alarms wake us up at four thirty am false alarm There was a member of staff outside with us but I could not see anyone doing a head count of who was not left outside or inside staff must be trained in this vital training we were all standing like lemons no co ordination

Review 89:On arrival staff lovely &friendly even locals in bar lovely, room weas lovely an big and nice bathroom made to feel very welcome plus we had a small dog the place is really dog friendly which was great plus breakfast first class plus meals home cooked will be going back

Review 90:The only downside was that the hotel (accommodation) is tired and could do with a spruce up.

Review 91:The staff were excellent and Allister the perfect host - especially as I had booked the wrong night! The breakfast (although we really didn't do it justice) was to die for, cooked fresh and the choice exceptional. Great selection of perfectly kept ales and for my colleague, a perfect selection of gins!
