Reviews for Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel

Review 1:I did not stay. I was sent to a different hotel because of an electrical problem at the Crewe arms. I was offered no compensation for the disruption and I lost an hours sleep because I had further to travel to catch my train.

Review 2:Not Applicable

Review 3:the noise from the train station was horrendous, the tv didnt work .. moved to another room . booked a double was given a twin. tap dripped all night, noiticed after the announcer at the station eventually shut up !!

Review 4:the 2 girls on reception were very friendly

Review 5:Heating not working properly. Pictures of LNER engines in what is a historic LNWR Hotel. This was brought to the attention of the management a year ago by the LNWR Society.

Review 6:Location

Review 7:A bit noisy (traffic, and wind noise on windows). Restaurant was closing as we arrived (8.30pm) so we only get fed by the skin of our teeth. Meal OK but meat rather tough.

Review 8:Very convenient for a stopover arriving by train. Comfortable well equipped room. Good breakfast.

Review 9:They didn't have my booking to start. Broken facilities in the bathroom, window wouldn't shut. Very noisy so couldn't sleep.

Review 10:Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 11:My room was facing main road and hotel's flood lights, so was a bit noisy but I still got a good night sleep.

Review 12:Very polite and helpful staff, freshly cooked breakfast. Right opposite train station.

Review 13:Quite chilly even with radiators on max. Shower not tall enough even for my partner who isn't very tall herself. Bed seemed to sink in a bit but didn't hamper night sleep.

Review 14:Close to the Railway station as we had to leave at 8am so very ideal. I don't think £34.10 wasn't bad at all for what we got given I've spent a lot more on more average hotels but this was an average stay.

Review 15:The room faced the rail station and did not have adequate sound proofing. Could hear station announcements, doors opening on trains and freight trains caused the room to shake. I was very tired so not so much of an issue.

Review 16:Cheap and right next to the rail station. Breakfast and room facilities were good given the price I paid.

Review 17:Bed not particularly comfortable (personal preferance), room too warm - staff sorted that immediately and its only because I hate heat. The bad reviews making me doubtful about booking/staying.

Review 18:Staff were fabulous - friendly and helpful, rooms SPOTLESS - the cleanest I've ever experienced in a hotel, great stay. Rooms lovely size. Please don't give the place a bad review regarding train station (ask for quiet room),parking (signs everywhere), squeeky floorboards and 'tired' look - it was built in 1880s,you'd be tired and squeeky too). It VERY unfair on amazing, hardworking staff who make this a great place to stay.

Review 19:Was placed in room 114 - view of the station I didn't mind but the noise I did. Trains rolling in every few minutes and permanent tannoy announcements . Incredibly noisy. Asked to be moved room and was accommodated however it was a twin instead of the double I had booked. Window in that room is knackered

Review 20:Comfy beds, clean and tidy, friendly staff

Review 21:The heating in room was not good there was not enough staff on we had to wait at reception as nobody was there also there was no one serving in the restaurant however when we where eventually served the meal was good

Review 22:The staff seemed to be trying to please

Review 23:The main area for improvement would be the breakfast, which was lacklustre. Note also that first floor rooms don't have a lift, although help was offered with my luggage.

Review 24:Perfect hotel if your train journey can't be completed that evening or you need a break. One of the oldest railway hotels, it is right next to Crewe station. The hotel is pleasant and attractive, with many Victorian features. The room was on the small side, but spotlessly presented and with a very comfortable bed, which ensured a good night's rest. Shower on the small side, but good. Excellent free wifi. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 25:Nothing at all.

Review 26:Ideally situated for going to The Box music venue. Refurbished and comfortable. Love the quirkiness of the layout. Rooms can be hard to find if you don't read the notices.

Review 27:Great location with car park and close proximity of railway station. Obviously had a recent facelift throughout. Room was excellent with nice en-suite. Spotlessly clean

Review 28:No Cold water. Phoned twice to get fixed but no one arrived. Had to go to bed very early so could not stay up for someone. Meals of poor quality when taking into account the price (average £15 main course). 4 of us eat and no one thought their meal was even half decent. Steak was like leather and fish was dry. Worst was the Nan bread which appeared to be cooked in a microwave. Please eat elsewhere if you are staying here. Also room is too hot. Hard to sleep.

Review 29:Handy for Station

Review 30:Nothing.

Review 31:Wonderful stay at Crewe Arms.Spacious room, bath & parking lot. Great bar service in lobby, and lovely white cloth hot & cold breakfast in dining room. Friendly staff, especially Adam, whose friendliness and helpfulness was much appreciated. Hard to believe they have kept the 1880's facade and made the interior so up-to-date. We recommend this property highly.

Review 32:The rooms were very small and not comfortable. staffs are not friendly and helpful Poor breakfast . The picture on your web site about the room is misleading.

Review 33:Nothing really we have stayed there before so we knew what to expect

Review 34:We only stayed for bed did enquire about breakfast but we thought that £9.99 was a bit expensive when so many pubs now do breakfast for a lot less

Review 35:We were given room 103, it was as if we were on the platform, every fast train thundered and was awakened at 04.54 by the first train, we could even hear the announcements. Hard mattress.

Review 36:It was near the town centre. friendly staff, parking value for money, it had a bath.

Review 37:Close to station and motorway,so handy for early trains or motorway connections.Rooms updated and clean, only thing lacking was a small set of drawers for socks and small items of clothing.Staff all friendly.

Review 38:Staff could be a little more 'customer-orientated'. There was no bath towel in the room. Sink hot and cold taps were plumbed the wrong way around! (Room 115).TV remote didn't fully function.

Review 39:The price, general facilities, cleanliness, comfort and location of the hotel were all good.

Review 40:bathroom flushing handle not properly fitted it was very loose and had to close the pan lid to flush the system bathroom door did not fit properly door was fitted to close to frame which subsequently losened the bottom hinge obvious no follow up to snagging of poor workmanship which let down the overrall good work carried out to the rest of the bathroom its all about paying attention to detail bedroom autolocks did not function properly had to call for assitants although any minor complaints was dealt with very promptly

Review 41:generally speaking an average victorian poperty with a poor attempt in upgrading the bedrooms bath facility with less attention to finished detail work

Review 42:The hotel didn't appear to promote their food service. I therefore ate elsewhere during the 4 nights I stayed.

Review 43:The shower was powerful and invigorating

Review 44:The external noise in room 122 was unbearable and we had a sleepless night. We were given an alternative the next morning. I would suggest that this room not be advertised as 'luxury'and be marketed at 'budget'level as I don't for a minute think that we were the first and won't be the last to have this unpleasant experience.

Review 45:Staff were accommodating and friendly.

Review 46:We had a room right next to the train station and as the room was very hot had to open the windows and listened to the trains and announcements regularly. which kept us awake.

Review 47:The rooms were beautifully clean.

Review 48:Hot water was marginal at best - but we did follow a coach party going up form dinner!

Review 49:Convenient location and car parking for station. Emma is a very good receptionist.

Review 50:a comment from one of the housekeeping team regarding me being able bodied but using the lift (not realising that I could hear her) - very inappropriate as in fact, I do have a disability which inhibits my use of stairs at times.

Review 51:comfy beds, clean, most of the staff very helpful

Review 52:Greeted at reception by friendly staff .check in was easy and we were directed to our very comfortable very clean and comfortable room . From check in to check out all staff were friendly and polite .would definately stay again . Staff should be congratulated .

Review 53:The outside of the hotel is filthy with a broken ashtray on the wall and cigarette ends all over the floor and rubbish in the garden. The Restaurant only seems to cater for cheap coach parties with very basic food and not much choice.

Review 54:Crewe isnt a nice place to 'visit' very rough at night. Nantwich is much nicer down the road. But Best Western gave a good service.

Review 55:We were there for Betley Court Farm festival. Bus stop outside took us directly to the village. Helpful reception staff too. Room was huge!

Review 56:New bar area too modernistic, not in keeping with rest of hotel, although it did need a refurb. Approx £84/room per night is too pricey.

Review 57:Rooms are very comfortable, not travelodge/ramada. Great location for Crewe station.

Review 58:Online listed multiple available rooms, so I booked with credit card. However, there were no rooms available when I arrived the next day. Staff recommended me to another nearby hotel, but we're not apologetic at all.

Review 59:The shower was very poor, hardly any force behind it and the hot tap gave cold water and the cold tap hot

Review 60:Newly refurbished room and bar were clean and smart. The room was short of a towel set and TV remote but the staff rectified this very quickly.

Review 61:Room size and comfort was fantastic with tea/coffee making, ironing facilities and a Bluetooth 'boombar" which was a nice touch and put to use immediately,

Review 62:The room over looked platform of crewe train station so it was very noisy with vibrations from trains and constant platform calls. Slept terrible first night. Asked to transfer to quiet room and following night with no issues.

Review 63:Good breakfast, parking and location to centre

Review 64:Bed a bit soft and mattress slopey

Review 65:Staff welcoming (Emma) and flexible the gent on suNday morning sorted us a bacon roll to go with coffee- we didn't want anymore than that.

Review 66:Breakfast was ridiculously expensive given we were expected to pay the same price as a 3 course meal the night before. I want aware that this was the case as the staff didn't tell us how it worked. My children and husband ended up with a small bowl of cereal which the bandage did reduce to £5 a head!!!

Review 67:Accommodation and evening meal was good value for money

Review 68:Hairdryer poor as you had to keep hold of button. Not good when you have long hair!!! 1 painful finger later. Breakfast ok. Not a lot of choice. Even though we didn't go down until 9.45am we felt rushed as staff were moving/clearing tables as we (and others) were still eating. Some items i.e. Fresh orange juice were removed. Could do with some pastries. Only 1 towel in room but as we checked in very late we just wanted to go to sleep so didn't ask for another.

Review 69:Room good size, bed comfy, free wifi

Review 70:Next to train station - very handy but you may hear train announcements from quite early on and the sounds of the trains passing by!

Review 71:Good sized room for the price with little porch. free wifi with no sign up

Review 72:On arrival, I was given the keys to my room and advised to take the lift. On entering the room, I realised that none of the lighting worked. I had to put the torch on my phone to call reception from the phone in the room. I was allocated another room - which was good in itself - however, it was extremely cold with a very thin duvet and I was therefore unable to sleep in any comfort, even after putting on some day clothes over my nightwear. In the morning, the breakfast that I had ordered for 07:30 am did not arrive until 07:40 am and when it did it was absolutely freezing cold - nothing on the plate was remotely warm and it was supposed to be a hot English breakfast. I had asked for Grapefruit juice but Orange juice was given instead. When I queried this (I did not know the food was cold at this point) I was told they didn't have any grapefruit juice; no real apology. Also I was told that I couldn't have fresh coffee as the coffee machine was not working. I used the coffee sachets and kettle in the room for something warm before a day's work outside. It was the first time I had been to Crewe and it did not leave a good impression on me. I will not be going back to the Great Western Hotel anytime. The basics: hot food, should be served hot. Lighting and essentials should be checked before a guest is due to arrive.

Review 73:The welcome I received from the receptionist (Emma) was the best thing about the hotel. The room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable.

Review 74:Small rom, a long way from the lift with no view. They started clearing the limited breakfast half way through the advertised time. Soulless bar.

Review 75:Car park.

Review 76:We knew the hotel was close to the station but didn't expect to be woken from 6am with train station platform announcements.

Review 77:Staff were very accommodating. Thank you.

Review 78:Friday night, sleep was disturbed by noise & lights, in a room at the front - (as if in the trenches on the Somme lol). Moved to a nearby, rear room for the Saturday, it was like a monastery under a vow of silence.

Review 79:Daniel welcomed me & my mate but all the staff were equally friendly & efficient, & took trouble to ensure our pernickety requests were satisfied. Many thanks.

Review 80:A slight bit if noise from main road at front of hotel. Needed to keep window open as it was warm.

Review 81:Just across the road from Crewe railway station. Spotless clean. Nice beds that you just sink into to. Tea/coffee making facility in rooms. Easy check in/out.

Review 82:Location, location, location. We wanted to be near the train station and we were right there. There was surprisingly little noise from the trains. The room was comfortable and met our needs. The hotel food was fine. Reception was outstanding.

Review 83:Location really good, just across the road from the station. Comfy, well-decorated room. Extremely clean. Helpful staff both when I first arrived and when I arrived late evening.

Review 84:Had a lot of trouble with my hotel payment they have knowingly overcharged me and I am still trying to get my money and over payment refunded

Review 85:Location good, room very good, staff friendly

Review 86:The hotel was fine but it did not have much atmosphere. We ate practically alone in the dining room on a Saturday Night?? Our room was very small up in the loft of the hotel and miles away from reception. All in all for what we paid it was OK. But I wouldn't stay there again.

Review 87:The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

Review 88:Lack of accessible wifi. I had to stand outside my room. Lack of evening meal on Sunday Night and the general atmosphere of the place. Inside does not suit the beautiful outside. Wood fire not used so we were cold in a lack lustre impersonal bar area while entertaining friends.

Review 89:Closeness to rail station and friendly staff

Review 90:The staff were extremely unfriendly to the point of being ignorant. Not helpful at all and gave a bad image from the moment walking in the door!

Review 91:I liked the location of the hotel

Review 92:Noisy room with annoying noise from the railway station.Changed rooms but that room while clean didn't have a bedside lamp. Breakfast was cold, should have been a warning notice on the toaster that you need to put the toast through 2 times, mistakenly thought the toaster was not working and it was not until 5 minutes later a member of staff appeared when I finally found out.Friendly reception staff would be welcome. After all the reception is your first and last experience of the hotel.Would certainly recommend the receptionist I saw to go on a customer service course to help her to understand the importance of making guests welcome and of a friendly departure.

Review 93:The cleaniness

Review 94:Not a bad experience at all, I very much enjoyed the hotel. If there was a way the creaky floors could be silenced, that would make the stay perfect.

Review 95:The staff were fantastic, polite and helpful. The hotel has great charm and character with spacious accommodoation.

Review 96:I have stayed at this hotel many times prior to new ownership. Although attempts have been made to update this hotel at the front of house it is still the same old hotel "behind the scenes". During my latest stay my room was supposed to be a double. The bed was too big for the room which did not leave enough room to move about comfortably. The bathroom was very small and the shower was compact to say the least. Again not enough room to move around. I am not sure how 2 people occupying this room would have coped for space.

Review 97:The hotel has been updated since new ownership and now has a lift.

Review 98:Not so much a bad experience as irritating Breakfast ingredientes running out Bacon one day Hash Brown and Eggs another.Another time no saucers and Orange Juice very weak (See through) AM Reception not very welcoming

Review 99:Room / Bed / Bathroom / Sky TV / Location (Near Station) Reception staff PM

Review 100:I was going on an early morning train excursion from Crewe Station (as I live in mid-Wales this meant setting out the day before. This hotel was perfect for me regarding location and very apt as it is the first railway hotel ever built. great to access the railway very comfortable and very reasonable

Review 101:There was nothing not to like.

Review 102:Friendly staff made me feel at home, made great effort to make a snack for me out of hours, wonderful overall made better by its staff.

Review 103:Initial room not as requested and not made up (immediately rectified by reception staff). Gents toilet cubicles in bar area blocked for 2-3 days .

Review 104:Rooms comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location very good. Breakfast and evening meals very good

Review 105:That they had not received the confirmation from Booking.com This by all accounts has happened previously, and hence a discussion about the cost when booking out. .

Review 106:Food was very nice

Review 107:Was checked into an already occupied room, the only available room was a twin, next to the railway. The room shook when a train went past - very noisy. Breakfast was cold and no gym despite being advertised

Review 108:all you could hear all night was the trains going past and the controller on the tannoy. In the day we could also hear the football grounds.

Review 109:clean, comfy, friendly staff and located close to the event we went to

Review 110:Room 114 right at side of Crewe Railway Station.i could hear people talking on the platform below. The windows were not very good and draughty letting in noise. The PA system in the station was really noisy in the room. Train noise of moving rolling stock was constant through out the night. No television in the room. Poor shower small room with desk but no desk chair. Very very poor for a Best Western Hotel. Will not stay there again. The Ramadan Encore is where I stayed the next night. It's twice as good. I will now change my Hotel brand in future. I stay in hotels 4 nights per week minimum. A big loss for Best Western.

Review 111:Staff were good and helpful.

Review 112:The décor needs to be refreshed. There were lots of little maintenance problems; hot tap was defective, the shower stand was coming apart and the bed was small.

Review 113:Staff and location were good. Breakfast was better than average.

Review 114:Ironing board snapped as soon as put it up. Taps In Bath and sink were the wrong way round blue was hot red cold ended up brushing my teeth with hot water

Review 115:Far too posh for a young couple from Liverpool ha lovely hotel though.

Review 116:The room I had was right by the train track - it rattled when the trains went past. The room was clean but dated. The food was good but expensive for what it was. The staff were generally disinterested.

Review 117:The hotel was very convenient for the station and parking was included

Review 118:If i had to have one little niggle i would say the room was a bit cold as the radiators have no controls on and the windows are single glassed.Apart from these a very good hotel.

Review 119:friendly staff, good rates for price of room, very good location.

Review 120:Not enough tea/coffee/milk in room, no toiletries in bathroom, Hotel took CC payment on arrival without asking first. Breakfast OK, but staff did not mention we could order alternative. Have to make own tea for breakfast. Toaster not working. Inadequate 2 slice toaster for dining room.

Review 121:Comfy bed, room very nice

Review 122:No room beside bed on either side. TV too low down, needs to be mounted on a wall brk't further up the wall. Electronic room key deactivated multiple times during stay, resulting in frequent re-visits to reception to re-activate. no atmosphere in Bar area.

Review 123:Location, right opposite Train Station Staff Restaurant

Review 124:I was given the room i booked (double with bath) but on entering the room it was already full of another persons stuff. On going back to reception i was given the ground floor disable room. Not only did this not have a bath or kettle in the room but being next to the train station the trains were very loud and kept me awake.

Review 125:Bed was comfey and breakfast was good.

Review 126:Had a lovely couple of nights with my girlfriend at the hotel. With me working away and living an hour away, we decided it was easier to meet in crewe and we chose this hotel. The staff are great, and the hotel is charming. Great value for money.

Review 127:The only downside was at breakfast - items kept running out and weren't replaced quickly so you had to eat your breakfast in 'stages' eg. no eggs and some things you had to ask to be replenished before you got it.

Review 128:We stayed here last year before the rooms were refurbished and we weren't impressed by the hotel but the staff were lovely. This year we were in a refurbished room and it was lovely. Very comfortable bed and bathroom was spotlessly clean - no complaints. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful too.

Review 129:The lobby/reception seems a bit spartan

Review 130:It was better than my last stay, now they have finished the upgrade much improved. Glad to see the fireplace is still there in the lobby but it could be enhanced with the use of some flowers/pictures...or what ever.

Review 131:Bar area still like a canteen but understand this is soon to be rectified. In line with most of the industry no food available New Years night, route march to Weatherspoons who were doing food as usual !!

Review 132:Good sized refurbished room. Low occupancy 2/1/15 no buffet breakfast, so probably the best fresh English breakfast we have ever been served in a hotel !! Friendly staff will certainly stay again.

Review 133:i liked everything except people in the next room came in at about 3am and shouting still partying so i could not get back to sleep and when ever i book a hotel there i can never find my room i think the staff gives me one of the hardest rooms to find

Review 134:Height of the shower, my partner is only 5"6 and had to crouch to stand underneath it

Review 135:Cleanliness of the room Polite and helpful staff Close to the train station

Review 136:Restaurant service was inconsistent - staff disappearing for payment which meant I was charged twice for my evening meal

Review 137:Comfort excellent, food reasonable
