Reviews for Grange Hotel
Review 1:Went for the more expensive 4 poster room. We were not disappointed. The room was huge with a roll top bath in the corner. Large bathroom with his and hers sinks and a double shower. The bar is nice, with small snug room with comfy chairs and a wood burner to relax in. We ordered breakfast to the room which was excellent. A small charge is payable for this. Looking forward to our next visit.
Review 2:There was loud music coming from the room above in the early hours at one point of our stay, but staff at the hotel were great and spoke to the other guests on our behalf.
Review 3:We really enjoyed our stay at Grange Hotel. The staff were very helpful and the hotel and our room were both beautiful.
Review 4:Very poor breakfast food & service. Dinner over-priced food, very poor attitude of maitre d' & very poor service generally in the restaurant which had very little atmosphere. Very large barn of a bathroom but nowhere to put anything!
Review 5:The location.
Review 6:Not a complaint suggestion of how to improve to a rating of 10. Hotel needs to get rid of plastic urns filled with tacky flowers. Use the big fire in the reception and take the bar out of the reception area and make it the main reception desk.
Review 7:The hotel was beautiful staff very friendly. Room was spacious and warm
Review 8:None!
Review 9:A first rate hotel with charming, helpful staff in all areas. An excellent room with a fine view of the coast, very comfortable, Very good food both in the restaurant and bar area.
Review 10:the décor was particularly good and in great condition, a lovely welcoming atmosphere and comfortable seating. Our meal was good, we were a party of 7, and were accommodated very well. we had room 111 which was fantastic, would try and ask for that room again.
Review 11:Pool very small; smaller than it looks on the picture! Rubbish mobile reception (although I think its the rural location, as it wasn't great in all of Grange) Also it rained pretty much constantly (but again, not the hotel's fault!!).
Review 12:Location, and bay front bedroom were lovely. Staff helpful, and thoughtful. For example, I dropped a bottle of shampoo from my case on the way to the room, and the bar staff spotted it, worked out it was mine and called me on the room phone to return it.
Review 13:Only the horrendous weather.
Review 14:Without exception the staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly. The room was very comfortable and extremely attractive, with all our needs met . We enjoyed talking to the head waiter and some of his staff in the dining room.
Review 15:Bathroom door didn't shut. Had to fight to flush the toilet. Overheard staff f'ing about other staff. Uncomfy bed. On check out, our food bill was cut due to these issues. Great location, but overall overpriced!!
Review 16:Jacuzzi. Views from the room.
Review 17:The professionalism of all the staff was appreciated and they were friendly, attentive and always pleasant. The food for breakfast and evening meals were of an exceptionally high standard in taste, quality and presentation
Review 18:The suite we were in had a faulty window which was very difficult to keep closed. If it had been rainy weather we would have been in trouble.
Review 19:The location of the hotel and view from the room was beautiful.
Review 20:It was quite expensive and I'm glad I didn't pay full price for the room - got it through a late booking site.
Review 21:The hotel was clean and the room was simple but comfortable.
Review 22:No EE phone signal and WiFi connection was poor.
Review 23:Beautiful hotel in wonderful surroundings and a stone's throw from the Station at Grange. Staff were very welcoming and helpful.
Review 24:We found that, when you look underneath the plush soft furnishings, thebasics are not great. The en suite bath tap spun round, the toilet seatwas loose and the flooring was industrial type. The beds were hard.
Review 25:The location of the hotel was good and the staff were helpful andfriendly. The décor of the hotel was plush and opulent with lots ofrichly coloured carpets, drapes and chairs. The French baroque stylesuited the hotel.
Review 26:Paid £180 for a room and it was dingey, the bathroom door didn't shut, a light was hanging out the wall, and there was a dirty tissue in the side table drawers. Complained and to their credit was put in a much nicer room which was worth the money we paid. A wedding was being held at the hotel which was very noisey. Music was booming until 1am. Not very relaxing... Also the photos make the hotel look a lot more luxurious than it really is eg. 'stone' statues are actually plastic. Its all a bit faux.
Review 27:Comfy bed, decent breakfast. Friendly staff
Review 28:What was there not to like?! We stay in hotels quite often and this is one of the best we have stayed in any where in the world. The location, the building, the food, the staff, superb!!
Review 29:The spa was a little rundown and needs upgrading. Door handles missing on sauna Many lightbulbs blown Pool surroundings could do with a good spruce and cleanup. However I have to add it did not spoil our overall stay there.
Review 30:The venue was worth going back to for more. The food was exceptional from breakfast to evening meals. What made the most impression was all the staff as they were wonderful, (helpful, informative and playful springs to mind).
Review 31:The breakfast room felt like a cheap B&B. It had no outside looking windows and felt low and oppressive. The range and quality of the food was not great considering the cost of Bed and Breakfast at this hotel.
Review 32:The location, bedroom decor, the building and excellent inside decor. The quality of the evening meal, if just a little overpriced and not exactly as it appeared on the menu.
Review 33:In the morning, our bathroom had a really strange smell. We couldn't work out whether it was the drains or because we were over the kitchen.
Review 34:The wedding was amazing, food was beautiful. Breakfast was also quite nice, however I felt fried eggs could be served buffet style! Room was also very nice.
Review 35:We were unfortunate to arrive along with a wedding party! Long wait at Reception and impossible to hear on the taxi booking phone - no help offered from Receptionist. The toilet in our room didn't flush and wasn't repaired after we reported it.
Review 36:The room , although small, was pleasant and comfortable.
Review 37:There was a wedding on, seemed to be only one bar which was full of wedding guests, very noisy shouting and bad language, disappointing really
Review 38:Location was nice
Review 39:The wifi was a little spotty.
Review 40:I loved the giant bathroom with claw foot tub and window on the gardens. Everyone we encountered was personable and helpful. The day we checked out, we received an email that we had inadvertently left two items in the room. We called and asked the reception staff to put the items in the mail to our home in the U.S., and they were there when we got home.
Review 41:When we walked into the hotel it was heaving with guests for a wedding function at the hotel
Review 42:Hotel and amenities were excellent. The staff couldn't have done more to ensure our stay was just what we were looking for. Grange town is lovely with lots of quirky shops and all the people were very accommodating. The location of the hotel was just right for going out and about in the Lake District
Review 43:The fact that there was a wall less than 3 feet from the bedroom window. Could only just get a glimpse of the sky. Handle on toilet liable to nip your hand. Disappointed with the dinner menu and quality of some of the cooking.
Review 44:Convenient location.
Review 45:It would have been nice to be acknowledged on arrival. Receptionist on the phone with another customer but made no attempt to recognise that I was there. her colleague greeted me well though when she arrived in reception.
Review 46:Nicely decorated room but let down by small touches such as plastic beakers instead of glasses in the room.
Review 47:We were disappointed with our choice of meal one evening. There was only a plate decoration of the sauce accompanying the duck and consequently it was very dry. Apart from that everything else was great
Review 48:almost everything!
Review 49:En suite facility door had no lock only a ball catch that didn't work and the door itself had a huge gap between it and the frame. The extractor fan didn't work.
Review 50:Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfort of rooms. General atmosphere was very relaxing.
Review 51:Should have pre-ordered dinner to receive early bird special price but the dinner was excellent regardless.
Review 52:The friendliness of the staff and management. The decor and cleanliness, extremely comfortable hotel.
Review 53:Not keen on it being 'Open' Wi-Fi.
Review 54:We loved the location, the room, the staff were really friendly and helpful. I used the pool, which was good.
Review 55:Couldn't get a spa treatment. I tried a week before to book but couldn't get hold of the therapist. When we arrived the spa treatment rooms were closed for the bank holiday period!
Review 56:Lovely location in Grange Over Sands. Close enough to walk to the shops and restaurants and overlooking the sea.
Review 57:Unfortunately on the second night we were woken several times by noises in the central heating pipes. The hotel had many more guests this night and may have been the start of the season. Despite this we will probably return.
Review 58:We were very impressed by the dining experience in the evening. We also had a delightful room with a view over the estuary. If we are in the area again this hotel will be at the top of our accommodation list.
Review 59:Late checking in and no room service or even fruits. .travelling all day from Bury St Edmund, to Shrewsbury on wsy to St Andrews.
Review 60:Room 111 extremely spacious.
Review 61:Maybe some offer like dinner, b and b would be advantageous! And maybe a minibar in room but not major issue!
Review 62:Flood amazing and view from room was great! Even in windy, wet weather! Would love to stay in summer time!
Review 63:I thought the room we had was my heated very well and we had to ask for a electric heater to plug in. One small radiator for a whole room. The wifi was very poor in the room we could hardly pick anything up. There was a wedding open day event when we when we arrived with lots of nice rooms on display with viewed over the bay. It would of been nice to be put in one of them rather than tucked away at the back.
Review 64:I thought the staff were helpful and the location is great.
Review 65:Room was roasting during the night!! Room was too small for our liking, dirty spoons in room, could do with lower price and more atomosphere, ie quiet background music at bar.
Review 66:Lovely staff, brilliant food and service, had a lovely night away, would go back if price was lower.
Review 67:Saucers for cups unclean. Couldn't book in at the hotel restaurant but yet I was a guest? Surely the hotel should be able to provide somewhere to eat for all of their guests?
Review 68:Spa opening hours were flexible Staff really helpful
Review 69:Wifi not great, everything else lovely
Review 70:The room & views were amazing, bed huge, roll top bath seemed luxurious, food delicious & not expensive, leisure facilities lovely. staff polite, friendly & professional.
Review 71:restaurant could have had an alternative menu to the set price - perhaps a 2 course option would be good
Review 72:The spa and pool area were excellent and as part of the price were superb The ambience of the hotel The location of the hotel
Review 73:The lighting was a bit dim - both in the room and the bathroom. Fine for a relaxed feel but proving a little difficult when trying to read or get ready in the evening. Maybe some additional lighting over the mirrors and a carefully positioned floor standing light would make this experience even better.
Review 74:This is a grand old hotel - fantastic beds and fresh decor. Very relaxing and quite romantic. We had a spacious room with a seating area, a fantastic four poster bed and a very fresh looking bathroom with a great walk-in shower and huge bath. Enjoyed a dip in the pool along with some time in the jacuzzi and steam/sauna rooms. Breakfast was generous and well cooked. Shame it was only for two nights!
Review 75:Bed and pillows very hard. Very bright and harsh lighting in bar area.
Review 76:The staff were excellent and made us feel very welcome. Quality and cooking was also very good. Impressive old building that has been well kept
Review 77:Narrow single beds. Bathroom without anywhere to hang a dressing gown.
Review 78:Food service was excellent - from bar snacks to dinner. Breakfasts were outstanding.
Review 79:I am surprised no one has criticised the beds, the bed I slept on was like sleeping on bricks and was the worst bed/sleep I have ever had
Review 80:Nice clean hotel staff very good
Review 81:the only thing I did not like was dinner in the dining room the waiter dropped the appetiser on the floor and kicked with his foot into the corner of the room
Review 82:I enjoyed the pool you kindly gave my mum a room by the lift thank you breakfast and bar food very good
Review 83:Booking.com messed up the booking however it did get sorted in the end and The Grange upgraded our room FOC. We were very grateful and it was a superb room.
Review 84:Room was excellent and the 5 course meal was exquisite. All the staff were very attentive and made our stay very memorable. The hotel was beautifully decorated and elegantly furnished. We would definitely go again.
Review 85:Parking a bit hit-and-miss. Standard British hotel practice of having nowhere to park toiletries in the bathroom - come on Grange, break the mould! A couple of shelves by the basin would stop having to balance one's electric toothbrush on top of the loo cistern. (And no, the window ledge won't do)
Review 86:Stayed during the last week of October and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff and the food were quite outstanding. Our room (201) was brilliant and we were treated so well by the staff - nothing was too much trouble. A great deal of money has been spent on the interior and it shows. The new bath tubs are amazing! The garden & garden furniture look spic and span and would be a great place to chillax in the summer. In an excellent location opposite the train station; a very short walk to our favourite teashop, yet quiet - you can't beat that!
Review 87:Leaving
Review 88:The whole hotel is a joy to stay in. I have stayed many times and have never had a reason to change my opinion of the Grange. The Grange is run to a point of silence, you are not aware of things going on, however nothing seems to be missing or not in its place. The staff are a credit to the Grange.
Review 89:We liked the warm welcome by the receptionist. He was excellent. We loved our room; very comfy and spacious. The choice of snacks available in the lounge bar was wide and our choice proved tasty. The breakfast was good and overall the hotel is a lovely one. We were impressed by the staff always allowing guests priority on the lift - excellent courtesy. We will return.
Review 90:the bathroom was huge which was lovely. But nothing to put your toiletries on,there seem nowhere to put anything needs some shelfs/cupboards to put things on and to make it feel more homely.
Review 91:the size of the room was wonderful the views were stunning.
Review 92:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 93:I loved loved this hotel. I booked a twin room and we had a comfortable double bed each! It was clean and the staff very polite, helpful and friendly Just such a lovely experience would stay again if ever in the area.
Review 94:Gym - very small, not very good equipment - lower ground no natural light. Our bedroom was lovely, beautiful big bathroom. Only complaint - beds not comfortable, could feel springs coming through. We both slept badly and woke up with back ache(such a shame!)
Review 95:The location, style and furnishing were great. The staff very helpful and friendly. Dinner was very tasty and good value for money. Breakfast was of a good standard. We upgraded to a sea view superior and were not dissapointed!
Review 96:Nothing really, but it does cater for the older generation so don't expect a lively hotel.
Review 97:This hotel is great for complete relaxation. The pool, sauna and steam room were clean. Bedroom size good and huge bathroom. Excellent night's sleep. The choice at breakfast is second to non.
Review 98:Not enough parking for size of hotel when functions taking place and speed bumps need to be clearly marked for when it is dark as lighting not good.
Review 99:Location and facilities all excellent
Review 100:WiFi was not 'consistent' - connected for a while then signal was gone. Waiter were not clear in the restaurant what aperitifs were available.
Review 101:Clearly a well established and high quality hotel with many activities associated eg swimming pool, health club type 'attachment'. Very nice village and nice promenade alongside the waterfront. Fantastic room and good restaurant.
Review 102:The stay wasn't long enough )-:
Review 103:We liked the freindlyness of all the staff from reception to cleaning staff, good attention to detail even down to the little things. Superb chef who knows her craft and draws the best from her staff. Decor was tastfull with classic interior design touches.
Review 104:The heating wasn't working in our bedroom, nor the heated towel rail in the bathroom, but we didn't realise this at first, then when we did report it in the morning it was too late for us to benefit from it being fixed. Because of this we had to have fresh towels brought up, as the ones we had already used were still wet.
Review 105:The room was lovely, with tea and coffee making facilities which is always good. We had use of the swimming pool and spa facilities, with towels provided. The food was delicious and the service was very good.
Review 106:The bed was actually two single beds pushed together with an incredibly uncomfortable join in the centre. The wifi in the bedroom was appauling which was inconvenient as i required it for work correspondence and uploading daily holiday photos to facebook would have been nice. A stroll into Grange over sands the first evening proved pointless as the whole place seemed to have a curfew and we had to drive to nearby Cartmel to find somewhere nice to eat. Myself and my partner were around half a century younger than the other guests (we are late 20's) and felt slightly out of place. Horrific speedbumps into the hotel meant i had to park at the railway station and walk up. The steam room and gymnasium were a serious stretch of the imagination.
Review 107:Friendly staff who were extremely polite and helpful, stunning looking building outside and very grand, posh interior. Swimming pool and jacuzzi were a fantastic to relax in after gruelling lake district walks.
Review 108:Automatic lights in the bathroom, on when you walked passed the bathroom door, if you stood still they went off, worse at night going to the bathroom, came on went you didn't need it!
Review 109:The room was very dark because it was surrounded by trees very close to the windows, although they upgraded to a suite after we mentioned this to reception There was a thirty minute wait for bacon at the buffet breakfast, not what you would expect, the only other gripe was the lack of parking spaces available
Review 110:Upgrade of room to Broughton suite, this was a very nice gesture and much appreciated Lovely evening meal Staff were very helpful
Review 111:The location and hotel grounds were attractive and pleasant. The room was really comfortable and clean . Food ,staff and facilities were excellent. Would go back. Really relaxing stay,
Review 112:Wifi is a bit poor, fire alarm (false) did disturb our sleep, but can';t be helped
Review 113:It is simply an excellent hotel, facilities wise, you feel at home, it s very relaxing. Our 3rd visit and it doesn't fail to impress every tme, we will be back for sure
Review 114:The room was at the back and was like a cave very dark with trees right outside the window so no view , there was a sofa In the room with stains on the cushions . Too many drapes it was very hot and the bed had a winter duvet and heavy bedspread on it. The silk flowers everywhere including our room were dusty and old and not necessary.
Review 115:The staff were very helpful, breakfast was fine.
Review 116:The inconsideration of some of the weekends wedding guests. The smoke and smell of those that smoked at the front door came in to the bar area where we sat to relax, read papers and use the internet, also it drifted in to our upstairs room. Always a concern from someone with Asthma.
Review 117:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Grange Hotel, we felt comfortable and relaxed and truly spoiled. The staff were extremely polite, helpful and provided excellent service throughout their tasks, they were friendly and eager to offer suggestions of places to visit. Our room overlooked the Hotel front with lovely views of the bay and town beyond. The bed was comfortable with cotton sheets, a heavy counterpaine sandwiching a wooly blanket; it smelled freshly cleaned and I'm sure it would have been laundered after each visitor, if not it would be a concern. Luckily, the weather was glorious during our stay 20-22 degrees, we would have hoped for a little wind at night as without air-conditioning it was quite warm, though we did manage to sleep. The room itself was spacious, it seemed to have been thoroughly cleaned each day; the floor of the wardrobe and the shelves were spotlessly clean, so much so we felt comfortable to unpack our clothes for a weeks stay. All areas of the Hotel were lusciously decorated, inkeeping with the age of the building and the areas we used were spotlessly clean, no dust in the corners, no cobwebs that we noticed. The breakfast offered a good choice of cereals and freshly prepared mixed fresh fruit, home-made yoghurt etc. Mostly, the cooked portions were self-service, on occasion we had table service, depending on the guest volume. The food was beautifully fresh and well prepared, not fatty. We ate in the Restaurant on two occasions and at the Bar twice, at each meal the service was excellent, the food was delicious and we felt the prices were very reasonable when you consider the quality; comparable to any good restaurant. They also had a very good wine list. There were weddings on Fridays and Saturdays. The preparations for which began early or the night before, all very organised, though caused confusion at breakfast as locations changed and we had to keep asking where to go.
Review 118:The over-the-top decor at first, but it grew on me The overcooked vegetables
Review 119:The staff The breakfasts The surroundings The comfortable room The peace The over-the-top decor
Review 120:Parking could do with some segregation so hotel residents can park near the entrenched on days when wedding receptions are being held
Review 121:The hotel and facilities were first class and the staff friendly and helpful.
Review 122:We had room 125 which was very dark , it was difficult to read at night, also could not get wifi in room only in bar.
Review 123:Location is lovely , straight across from the station on the edge of town, hotel grounds are beautiful
Review 124:As always, we received the best of service from the delightful staff. The room was first class and the breakfasts were excellent. We can't wait to go back.
Review 125:Arriving knowing i would have to leave and leaving the Grange for home
Review 126:The Grange is a super location to relax. For me the chef at the Grange is an amazing gift to food. The menu is superb and never fails to impress.
Review 127:there was nothing to dislike.
Review 128:The staff and the pleasant surroundings. It's a little bit of luxury at a reasonable price. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Review 129:I wouldnt have wanted to pay £185 a night but then we are from Yorkshire and get value for money!
Review 130:Generally excellent Booked online 30 minutes before arrival. Reception had the information to hand when arrived Free parking.Room was ready. excellent facilities on a typical old fashioned grand scale. Massive comfy bed. Spotless room. Decent choice of meals in evening. Quality of food top notch and would recommend to anyone wanting a meal whilst in the area ( open to non-residents). standard fare breakfast served efficiently. no complaints and well recommended especially for reduced rate of £125 instead of £185
Review 131:lots of under 16s using the pool area and facilities that they shouldn't have used as under 16
Review 132:everything except monitor the pool area more
Review 133:rain, rain and rain again
Review 134:4 poster bed and room
Review 135:Service was excellent Brian and the lady on reception were lovely
Review 136:Super stay, food was excellent.
Review 137:Needs updating
Review 138:Very nice staff
Review 139:Very well cared for by staff.
