Reviews for Byzantino

Review 1:Strong cigar smell in small shared hallway. Shower easily overflowing causing too small bathroom to be fully wet.

Review 2:Excellent central location. Authentic and rich breakfast in cosy location with central square and sea view. Very good beds and matrasses.

Review 3:They forgot my early breakfast but that was beyond the contract,so let us say that nothing was wrong!

Review 4:everything was perfect! The room had a wonderful view of the sea and of part of the magic town. Breakfast was fantastic and the staff was very nice.

Review 5:Amazing room, very scenic. Very clean. Internet was no problem. Staff are very helpful. Breakfast included in the price and is amazing!!! Best ever experience.

Review 6:A big brown roach lived in our room. He came to drink water in the bathroom.

Review 7:Romantic interior and exterior. Breakfast was excellent. The best breakfast in Greece we met during our vacation.

Review 8:Friendly, nice and flexible staff able to solve a problem without any delay (even on Saturday). Very romantic place. Nice view from terrace. Excellent and tasty breakfast!!!

Review 9:We are young enough to be able to negotiate the steps to get to room, but I could see some older travellers having problems.

Review 10:Had booked location in February for an October stay. During checkin we were bumped up to a much better room with sea view. Breakfast was very good, with seemingly endless choices. The local swimming area was neat as well.

Review 11:The bed was harder than I would have liked, but that seems to be the case all over Greece.

Review 12:Super friendly staff in the cutest little town. Our room really felt like another world and we had a gorgeous view. We felt like we were looked after and the breakfast buffet was really tasty.

Review 13:I don't like that I can't properly communicate that this was truly a 10+ !! We're on an extended trip, this was our 14th Greek lodging and the best.

Review 14:The staff, the location, the view, the fabulous breakfast, the value.

Review 15:The bathroom. A few more hangers for towels, a place to put toiletry on is necessary. Also it needs aeration. It is not an easy issue to resolve but should be managed somehow.

Review 16:The staff was so helpful, made our stay as easy and pleasant as possible. The setting is beautiful. The breakfast is also abundant and traditional, a definite plus. Thank you.

Review 17:One of the mattresses had seen better days. The managers said it would be replaced, so probably no longer an issue.

Review 18:Spacious room in brilliant location right above the old bell tower. The breakfast buffet offers an amazing range of sweet and savoury dishes. Very helpful staff who had lots of great tips for our stay.

Review 19:The friendliness of the staff, the smart decor, the superb breakfast, together with the rare beauty of Monemvasia made this a really unique holiday! Our apartment was beautifully decorated and kept spotlessly clean. The breakfast was a feast of delicious and healthy options together with tasty treats, the staff had a lovely attitude and were genuinely polite and helpful. It was a special holiday and we would love to go back.

Review 20:Parking was a problem, but the staffs helped us with carrying our luggage a and they even gave us lift to the car, so overall it was fine.

Review 21:Great location, hospitable staffs, amazing breakfast, and beautiful view from the room!

Review 22:Bed and pillows were a little hard but that is purely personal preference.

Review 23:Amazing location, really close to swimming spots and the center of town. Local knowledge from staff was amazing and great restaurant recommendations. Room was gorgeous and felt really decadent!

Review 24:The air-conditioning is not in a good position. The upstairs bet the temperature was not good.

Review 25:Monevasia is an excellent location especially the castle. The staff was friendly and excellent. The breakfast was amazing, traditional and homemade, you can taste all laconia with this breakfast.. Thanks for everything especially Thomais!!!

Review 26:nothing everything was great!

Review 27:The staff was amazing. Anna made you feel like home. Her breakfast was all homemade and the best of anywhere we have been

Review 28:Wifi didn't reach all the way up to the room, but who needs wifi when you're staying at one of the most beautiful villages in Greece?

Review 29:We got an upgrade to a newly renovated room. The room was wonderful, with a small bathroom and seperate shower. It was a very quiet location, a short climb up the stairs at the central square. We will ask the same room when we return!

Review 30:Bear in mind that you will sometime have to leave the car 1 km from the entrance to the castle, since the parking along the road is always full.

Review 31:Very nice hosts. Two sisters who own the place are really nice and helpful. The breakfast is awesome, one of the best I had in hotels.

Review 32:There is nothing I didnt like.

Review 33:What a wonderful hotel in the most charming historic town. The owners bent over backwards to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The room made us feel like we were on our honeymoon, with its 1/2 timbered ceiling, stone features casement windows and porch overlooking the Agean Sea and town square. I highly recommend this hotel and town for an atypical Greek vacation.

Review 34:The shower is small. Internet access is very slow in the evening hours.

Review 35:Initially we stayed one night at Byzantino, we liked it a lot! The rooms are traditional (this explains the small door entries) clean and spacious. The breakfast was just simply amazing! the staff was very helpful, informative and friendly. We liked the place so much that we stayed another night :) We hope to come back to Byzantino in the future when restoration of Monemvasia is completed!

Review 36:The humidity of the room, the airconditioning helped just a little.

Review 37:The room was placed inside the old town, the atmosphere was perfect, a travel back in time. Amazing breakfast with homemade pies and traditional specialties! The staff was very friendly and kind.

Review 38:Tiny bathroom, very small door to pass inside and we hit our heads twice in an attempt to cross in. We are not that tall (1.70m) The room must have had general issues with pests (we saw a cockroach in the bathroom) and the people of the hotel were probably using weedkillers on a daily basis to suppress the phenomenon, causing a funny smell in the bathroom every day which had no window Very moist atmosphere in our room (P17): you could even tell in the clothes, if you happen to leave them hanging somewhere other than the closet. The closet, on the other hand, was extremely small and narrow, definitely unfit for a suit. The location of our room (P17) was right below a popular cafeteria/bar with loud music and many guests on a daily basis (Enetiko) until 3am. We found it hard to sleep due to the music and noise. Although this is definitely not a minus to the hotel facility per se, it should be a factor one should consider if one targets for a quiet night sleep in that room. The minibar only had two small bottles of water in it. There is no phone in the room (so if you wanted to call the reception you need to use your cellphone).

Review 39:Amazingly polite and helpful staff, always ready to attend to your needs and provide with a detailed guide on where to go and what to see. Mr Thodoris (the younger) was more than obliging in helping us reach the facility without worrying about the bags. Great breakfast with amazingly tasty treats made with local ingredients: home-made quality care. Best location compared to all other hotels in the castle of Monemvasia, very near the gate, which makes it ideal to carry the bags.

Review 40:The only bad experience was a blocked drain which when reported was dealt with immediately and with many apologies, something that does not normally happen. So bad experience becomes good experience

Review 41:the accommodation the location the breakfast and the people looking after us.

Review 42:Quaint village atmosphere without feeling touristy. The breakfast buffet had many choices, but the room,oh the room. It was charming, with a nice view overlooking the sea.

Review 43:Being inside the Castro and the amazing hosts (3rd generation Monemvasians) who went out of their way to be so helpful - incredible breakfast ! Last but not least location location location the amazing experience of wandering the 11th century walled Castro and seeing restoration in action.

Review 44:Wi-fi but if you are at Monemvasia looking for this then something is really wrong with you ;)

Review 45:Excellent location near the entrance of the city so there is no need to walk with all laggages through the narrow streets, specially if you arrive during the night. Very cosy room, helpfull and friendly stuff. They even did an upgrade to our reservation although it wasnt asked or required

Review 46:Wish had more time to spend more days to this breathtaking place.

Review 47:-The hotel is located to the lower level of the amazing medieval town of Monemvasia. -The decoration of the room is spectacular, you feel that you live in the past. -Very clean -The breakfast was homemade and you could taste the local products -The phenomenal hospitality of the owners. Theyknow how to run their business.

Review 48:Nothing. Truly. Loved every bit of time at Byzantine hotel.

Review 49:Giotta,and Anna (sisters) and staff were amazing! Fun, loving, excellent English, and just so genuine to us. The castle is perfect- loved every second I was there. The breakfasts that Anna made were just incredible & mouth-watering. She explained all of the herbs, etc. Everything was local, homemade, & really good hot coffee. The best food of our trip. The other townspeople/vendors were so friendly and other guests were very nice. I just loved the old castle & the concept of turning it into tole rooms. I want to move in there. :)) I requested an extended night & Giotta/Anna went to great lengths to accommodate us even though they were at capacity. I was so happy when they took care of everything and made it happen for us. The extra day was even better.

Review 50:the shower was leaking, but that's ok, no problem at all..

Review 51:the stuff were a wonderful and really friendly. excellent hospitality...! we loved the breakfast and the homemade marmalades...

Review 52:The rooms are dispersed all over the village which makes it difficult to move around but the staff is very helpful.

Review 53:The Castle of Monemvasia might be difficult to reach but it definitely deserves a visit. Each room of Byzantino hotel is different, thus, you can choose what is best for you. Friendly and welcoming staff.

Review 54:Matress (not comfortable) Bathroom (very cold room) TV (difficult to watch while on the bed)

Review 55:Breakfast (variety, unique, healthy) Service (help at arrival with luggages, tips for short excursions, friendly staff) View from the room

Review 56:The path to the building of our room was poorly lit.

Review 57:Excellent all around. The room was fantastic and perfectly located in a quite area near the main square of the castle with a fantastic view of the sea from the balcony. There was even a small window right in front of the bed on the upper floor so you could see and hear the sea while lying down! The lady in the reception was very helpful, she provided us with a map of the castle and explained in detail all the places we should visit within the walls and also indicated the possible routes to get there. She even gave us her mobile phone number to contact her in case we needed anything. The breakfast was excellent - one of the best I have had. Many options to choose from, fresh products and lots of traditional Greek dishes. Will definitely stay there again next time I am in Monemvasia.

Review 58:I was expecting a better view to the sea. Not from only one window and this with an angle. The house was not much of soundproof. The shower should be better constructed to avoid spilling water all over the bathroom, when used.

Review 59:location atmosphere staff breakfast view comfort big room value for money

Review 60:Nothing

Review 61:Nice room just in the heart of this amazing old village Good quality and comfort Warm welcome of the personel If you organise well your luggage its worth walking the 100 meters to stay in this amazing place

Review 62:You can't beat Byzantino for it's location. The room was lovely and atmospheric with antique furniture and beautifully preserved stone walls. It was worth staying right in the heart of Monemvasia to experience castle town life.

Review 63:The lock on our door was a little tricky for us to work - but not a great issue ( I meant to mention it at the time)

Review 64:Having parked our motorcycle just outside the gates of the Old Walled Town We met Yoda, the Hotel receptionist, just inside the gates at the easily located office. She was able to give us all the information we needed with a friendly smile and cheerful disposition. Our bags were carried to the apartment by Yoda's assistant who gave us helpful tips about Restaurants, swimming walks etc. along the way. Our apartment was in a very quiet part of the quiet Town and the balcony had great views over the Sea . Everywhere in Monemvasia was easily reached, even the walk up to the gates of the old town was not as difficult as it looked and the views from the Gate were stupendous. The old upper town is in the process of being renovated so we could not go through the gate (maybe next time). Breakfast was a feast and Yoda was on hand to welcome us to the small Taverna where it was served and to explain all the dishes to us. Everything was delicious. There are numerous Restaurants and Tavernas some of which have amazing terrace views. We must stay longer next time!

Review 65:This is a tourist trap. However the hotel whilst capable of charging more didn't, thanks to booking.com.Nor did the eateries. The hotel room suffered from a toilet that would not fill (rectified quickly) but the bed was extremely hard aggravating an old back and neck injury. Air con fine. Washing and other facilities though were cramped particularly for the taller members of society. The toilet needs to be repositioned to afford more leg room; showering was in lukewarm water or in my case borderline cold. The shower enclosure was non existent and water consequently entered the remainder of the bathroom and failed to drain away. The headboard made of concrete or somesuch was a somewhat alarming. These relatively minor problems did not detract from the incredible experience of this town. In October 2014, apparently more refurbishment is being undertaken to address the bathroom issues as I was not the first to make this observation.

Review 66:Liked the setting and the overall room which had been refurbished within constraints of a listed property, Once through the city walls, everything is on Shanks's pony which for those troubled with osteo problems may be problematic, however the hotel is very obliging with baggage carriers, but I recommend travelling light. Hotel located in the centre with lovely eating establishments in close proximity. Apart from the "what didn't you like?" below great hotel in a good location with excellent management.

Review 67:Tricky spiral staircase only hiccup.

Review 68:Near to main gate so no problems with luggage. Private terrace with open vie over rooftops to sea. Plenty of space in room. Quiet.

Review 69:The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful. The room was decorated to an excellent taste. Location was right in the heart of the castle. No complaints

Review 70:Mosquito nets on the windows were in part broken.

Review 71:We had a great stay. Monemvasia is unbelievable, and the hotel rooms are spread around the town in beautiful places. Our room was large and had 5 windows and a side with sea view. Silent, great mattress, great view and perfect Internet connection. Thanks!

Review 72:-nothing

Review 73:Hotel was very good; -especially all staff were very friendly and helpful. -Good designed -rooms are big enough and clean -very good location -hotel building is historical and interesting.

Review 74:It was magnificent, from start to finish. The room was gorgeous, balcony with an incredible view, very peaceful & serene. Stunning breakfast, home made, organic, fresh, one of the best breakfasts I've had. The hosts were lovely. I can't wait to go back!

Review 75:The room didn't feel particularly secure (there was one key for our bedroom door and the front door, which was shared by other rooms). The cost was a bit on the pricey side, but that's what can be expected when staying inside a castle! Parking is difficult, especially in August.

Review 76:Excellent location, and a great breakfast to start the day. The staff were more than helpful. We were especially thankful for the assistance they offered with our bags and transport from our car (via motorbike!).

Review 77:Having to leave so soon... Will definately visit again!!
