Reviews for Le Patio & Spa

Review 1:If there was anything to criticize it would be that the wifi didn't reach our room - the walls are too thick.

Review 2:The hotel is right on the river, within easy walking distance of everything. We had a wonderful suite with lots of room and wonderful furnishings. The place is full of character and the proprietors could not have been more helpful.

Review 3:The stone stairs are very steep and the last two flights have no handrail. Carrying luggage up and down these is daunting. We stayed in room number 5 and despite the high price there was no hair dryer, no soap in the bathroom, just an industrial-sized liquid shower gel dispenser. The lavatory seat was a decidedly dodgy, ill-fitting, floppy, cheap green affair which didn't match the white suite. The wardrobe was just a shelved cupboard with no hanging space, so we hung our clothes on the hat rack. The place is furnished with a lot of junk shop paraphernalia which should please fans of car boot sales. I don't understand some of the glowing reviews from some of the guests and dread to think where these folk have stayed if they rate Le Patio & Spa.

Review 4:Architecturally the building is lovely with a superb view across the river.

Review 5:Very friendly and extremely helpful owner/manager. If you like old, comfortable hotels you have to stay here. Morning sunrise views across the Loire from your bedroom window cannot be bettered.

Review 6:Great location near centre of town with ample street parking. Lovely large and comfortable room. Excellent recommendations for nearby restaurants plus delicious continental breakfast.

Review 7:The room was very large and spacious and the owner was incredibly helpful- he even drove us to the train station when we had an early start on the day we left.

Review 8:no bad experiences. all good.

Review 9:Very good reception despite arriving very early. Fantastic large rooms and facilities. Excellent breakfast simple but it's in the cost of the room. Good bar and available for service. Cheery chap and very welcoming.

Review 10:A beautiful hotel in a perfect location. We were made to feel very welcome and the top floor family room was like staying in a castle. Breakfast was wonderful - the best croissants and French bread ever and the homemade caramel sauce was delicious.

Review 11:Beautiful building. Our bedroom was gorgeous and the courtyard a delight. We received a wonderful welcome and everything was done to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 12:Bread and a croissant a bit disappointing for breakfast.

Review 13:Great B&B- Lovely period furnished bedroom- Staff welcoming and friendly Parrot a bonus! Free parking opposite.

Review 14:The single bed in our room was very hard and uncomfortable. My husband had to swop with my daughter in the middle of the night as she said it was too hard. My husband agreed and did not get much sleep. Shame as everything else was great.

Review 15:The property, location and owners are wonderful. Breakfast was gorgeous, the croissants were the best we have had in the 4 months we have been in France.

Review 16:The Spa didn't open it's doors in the afternoon until 5pm, so we were left outside for a an hour or so. In the booking I had said we wanted access to the room at 2pm, but received no clarification. And we wanted an early breakfast but breakfast was served from 8.30am. And, the Spa would any accept cash ( no credit cards)--I was invited to go down to the cash machine down the road. Overall a very amateurish proprietor running a business part time. Very disappointed. We won't be going back there again.

Review 17:No access to hot water for drinks. Hadn't realised no facility to accept payment by card.

Review 18:Ramon the owner was fantastic. The location beautiful and great decoration.

Review 19:Absolutely nothing!!

Review 20:It was a privilege to stay in this restored 18th Century building. The inner courtyard was an oasis of calm; but, best of all, is host Romaine. One could not hope for a more sincere and friendly welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for him, his enthusiasm bubbles over!! The bedroom we had was beautifully furnished in sympathetic style, and overlooked the courtyard. The location is superb, overlooking the river to the front and chateau to the rear, it's a short five minute walk to the centre of Saumur.

Review 21:No elevator

Review 22:Very nice B&B. Friendly host, good location (5-10 min walk to the center of Saumur). We liked the atmosphere in the back yard. Traditional French breakfast.

Review 23:I like a firm mattress on my bed but this one was just a bit too hard.

Review 24:Lovely suite of rooms, plentiful supply of hot water in shower, beautiful enclosed courtyard, lots and lots of character and charm. Great value for money.

Review 25:The warm welcome and the attention to detail are the first things that spring to mind. We also liked the building. It had charm and interest. It had also been tastefully refurbished.

Review 26:The whole package was fantastic. The suite (room 7) was spacious, clean, well decorated and comfortable. At the foot of the chateau and only 5 minutes from the centre of Saumur. Stephanie and her husband treat you as family.

Review 27:The wooden floor was so old and had a lot of noise.

Review 28:La chaleur du proprietaire Romain, qui etait tres aimable, nous a aide beaucoup avec ses directions, la vue sur la Loire, et le petit jardin (Patio) qui etait un vrais paradis

Review 29:Some of our group were meeting for the first time and we liked using the comfortable patio as a place to chat. We were delighted to receive a complimentary bottle of wine.

Review 30:Hairdryer in the room would have been nice but a small point. Enjoyed our stay immensely,

Review 31:Gorgeous B&B in a great location, wonderful views and lovely, quiet room. Free parking right out the front. Romain was a great host who helped to make it a very enjoyable stay.

Review 32:Breakfast could have been a bit better! Didnt realise needed to ask fir a hairdryer Parking can be a bit tricky at the wrong times

Review 33:Good room. Clean. Comfortable bed. Owner recommended Le Pot du Lapin restaurant closeby which was excellent too.

Review 34:We could only connect to wifi in the breakfast room due to the thickness of the walls. This was a bit inconvenient, but understandable given the nature of the building.

Review 35:The building and inner courtyard are charming, and the rooms are tastefully decorated in a historical style. The bathroom was however modern and comfortable. A simple French-style breakfast is included - breads, jams, juice and coffee. The location is very convenient and there is ample free parking. Our host was very welcoming and friendly. For the price-point, this is excellent accommodation.

Review 36:This is not a complaint but the Wi-Fi was a bit unstable in the room because of the thick walls but it was more relaxing to sit in the lounge areas or courtyard where Wi-Fi is strong.

Review 37:5 minutes stroll into the centre of town, this wonderful B&B faces onto the Loire River and has the castle directly behind. We stayed 5 nights and didn’t want to leave. Romain and Stephanie are wonderful hosts who are willing to help with anything you need. They helped with advice on drives around Saumur and places to eat, including the amazing Pot de Lapin which is only a five minute walk along the river. There is a bar for a quiet coffee or drink at the end of the day and a lovely breakfast room. Our room was large and gorgeous with a lovely fresh clean bathroom. This experience will change our accommodation choice from hotel to B&B wherever possible. An absolute yes from us.

Review 38:The owner made us so welcome from first to last. Le Patio is full of character & each area is presented with such good taste & charm. Breakfast was always delicious & the owner was extremely helpful with advice for restaurants, places to visits & cycle hire which was very helpful with only a short holiday.

Review 39:no shower screen in bathroom so not being able to shower was the only negative

Review 40:nearly everything, excellent ambiance, short walk to restaurants, overlooking Loire, parking outside or nearby, wi-fi was fast enough to use Skype but I was the only guest so this might be different when full.

Review 41:We were disappointed with what was available for breakfast as it was mainly bread rolls & croissants.

Review 42:The location was great, easy walk to main shopping area & restaurants, parking was safe, lovely view from our room.

Review 43:Hand held shower spout - but thats only a little thing

Review 44:Romain was so welcoming and he's B&B is so charming. Every little detail seems to have been carefully chosen for the place. We enjoyed an afternoon sitting in the patio talking to Romain and sipping on our sparkling wine purchased in the region. He suggested a local gem (not touristy) for dinner and it was one of the best meals we had on our trip.

Review 45:The only inconvenience was that the Internet was very weak in our room, so we had to sit in the courtyard in order to check emails. The stairs were not a problem for us, but might be for some people.

Review 46:The loction was wonderful, right on river. We had booked the green room on the second floor which was very spacious and comfortable. The open courtyard was a delightful area to sit, visit and have a glass of wine. Breakfasts were typically French with the usual breads, croissants, jam, juice, tea and coffee. The owner, Romain, was very friendly and hospitable. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Review 47:The bed was a bit too stiff. Could not get connected to the wifi. Ended up picking up the neighboring hotel's.

Review 48:So welcoming! Great restaurant recommendations. Room was very spacious. Location was perfect for our needs. We loved sitting in the courtyard with an afternoon glass of wine.

Review 49:Beautiful courtyard patio, lovely french antique decor, very friendly and helpful host. 5 mins walk to centre. Plenty of room in the suite. Very clean, nice bathroom. The weather wasn't that good so enjoyed the jacuzzi with glass of sparkling wine! Breakfast was just what we wanted croissant, coffee, orange juice. Also books and leaflets on the area in breakfast room. Tip - we took a travel kettle to make a hot drink in our room. In the suite there was a cupboard with some crockery and cutlery.

Review 50:Very personal service, plenty of French character. This is not a new build Hotel so be under no illusion about what to expect. We loved it, like being in someones home.

Review 51:unable to pay by card. had to dash to atm to get cash

Review 52:lovely warm, if slightly unusual welcome from Romain hanging over the first floor balcony. room was a suite with a very nice, eclectic variety of furnishings. excellently located just a short stroll from the old town

Review 53:WiFi a litte flaky unless you're downstairs near the breakfast room. Would have loved to have an electric kettle for a cup of tea.

Review 54:This beautifully decorated Napoleonic apartment faces the Loire River, with the imposing castle behind. Romain, your host, is cheerful and helpful. An easy walk to the centre of town.

Review 55:Host Ramon could not have been more helpful & friendly Lovely old building with interesting decor Nice courtyard Convenient to town easy parking Nice breakfast Just brilliant all round!

Review 56:N/A. Can't think of a thing.

Review 57:Hotel owner VERY accommodating (helped us with laundry issues, restaurant suggestions). Huge room, spotless, and 15 meters off the bike path. Good coffee in the am. Quiet, spotless...are you getting the idea?

Review 58:If you're looking for a stay in a quality Chambre d'hote, then read on. Le Patio is outstanding. The rooms are superbly decorated and your host Ramon (who speaks good English) is great. This place has those extra touches. Loads of good restaurants nearby.

Review 59:Nothing, all good

Review 60:The welcome was first class Excellent facilities, room was amazing, fantastic breakfast and able to park my motorcycle in the secure small courtyard. I did not need wifi, I was on holiday. Will definitely use again.

Review 61:No proper shower. A few dead plants! That's all! Oh, and not really a problem if you know in advance, but cash is needed to pay.

Review 62:Welcome from proprietor. Lovely interior courtyard. Attractive, imaginative and individual décor. Ancient stairs. Spacious room with good river view.Comfortable, large bed. Good breakfast. Easy parking. Walking distance of restaurants & shops.

Review 63:Romain was the ultimate host and joined us for a drink and a chat when we arrived. He advised us on places to eat and see. We used the Jacuzzi on the Monday morning which includes a glass of "bubbles" or beer. It was so relaxing and well worth the €15. The whole experience was lovely. We had a suite for €95. It was huge. Old worldly and incredible value with a lovely view over the courtyard. I will be back and have already given the details of this beautiful place to friends and family.

Review 64:Nothing not to like, although the bed was a little short for a six-footer like me

Review 65:Le Patio is an excellent B&B full of character brought to life byour fantastic host. It's a 300 year old building close to the centreof Saumur. We had a vast suite full of antiques and brocante

Review 66:No bath but I knew that before we arrived did not detract from the stay as the shower was excellent even for a shower hater !

Review 67:Great position close to town centre. Great breakfast just like they used to be in France, lots of coffee, croissant and tasty breads.large comfortable room with space to sit and relax.

Review 68:Check in no earlier than 1700 was inconvenient.

Review 69:This is a fascinating place to stay, right on the river in Saumur. It has real character and style, and a very friendly owner. The room was comfortable and breakfast very tasty. Our bikes were secure in the courtyard, although uncovered when it rained. The location is next to the main road, but noise was not excessive and did not disturb us; the upside was that access was really easy.

Review 70:No food other than breakfast En-suite basic Stone staircase very worn

Review 71:Excellent location between chateau and river Free on-road parking very close by Warm welcome Very old building full of character Huge bedroom with comfortable bed and rustic furniture Simple breakfast included Decent bar Short, level walk (5 mins) to town centre facilities Good price

Review 72:Would have preferred soothing classical music rather than radio station while enjoying our petit dejeuner.

Review 73:The first-class charm, tasteful decor, and warmth and graciousness of our hosts. Room, furniture, linens, draps rugs, art work all made this a five-star experience.

Review 74:great long weekend in this fantastic hotel, great location next to the chateux, wonderful decor, enchanting building with plenty of stone and wooden beams and Ramon has the ability to know exately how much attention to give his guests. good value for money too.. all in all you can't go wrong .. unless of course you like a middle of the road travel lodge experience.

Review 75:Creeky floorboards and bread and just jam for breakfast? but you are in france after all.

Review 76:Decor, lots of plants, shabby chic furnishing, central location, nearby street parking was easy and good price.

Review 77:Nothing.

Review 78:The Decor, the Hosts, the room was much larger than expected. From the front we had a view of the Loire and to the rear the Chateau. Beautiful.

Review 79:There was no in room tea or coffee making facility and the Wi-Fi was weak.

Review 80:Ideal location on the banks of the Loire, a short walk from the town centre. The room was spacious and tastefully furnished in keeping with the building. The bathroom was clean with plenty of hot water and an easy to use shower.

Review 81:Full of character, charming host, good quality breakfast with excellent coffee. Good size room with very comfortable bed. Road traffic noise not a problem. Good parking. Good Wi-Fi in room. Lovely courtyard to sit in and enjoy a glass of wine. Very relaxed.

Review 82:Le Patio is a delightful B&B ideally located overlooking the Loire river, close to the city centre and with ample parking. Rooms are very spacious and beds comfortable. The breakfast provided is good fuel to last for a day of sightseeing. Our hosts were welcoming and helpful with good advice about local attractions, some with discounts on entry prices.

Review 83:The proprietor was very welcoming and showed us everything we needed to know about the Hotel. It is very old and very beautiful. The bedroom was very comfortable and big and the bathroom very modern with a really good shower.Fabulous location and easy to find. We loved it

Review 84:However, the room facing to the main road is very noisy and hard to sleep. Quite a shame!

Review 85:The hotel is nice and the manager is friendly. The room is comfortable.

Review 86:Wifi not good ( old building?) ; need water and tea/ coffee facilities as more than enough room; be aware of steep (lots) steps to upper room.

Review 87:Great location- even managed to park right outside for free; lovely room- spacious with seating area and lots of hanging space ; lovely furniture and comfy bed. Nearly had view of castle! Great host; very friendly; adequate breakfast . Nice patio inside which assume would be good to use.

Review 88:Wi-fi is working mainly in the inner yard. Breakfast is every morning the same and quite small (baton, jam, juice and coffee/tea).

Review 89:Nice old building, with beautiful yard. We had old wooden stairs taking to the top floor room. It was silent side. Owner was super friendly and always smilling. He gave us many tips about the places, restaurants, bike rentals. and let our drinks cool down in the fridge.

Review 90:there was a bit smell in the toilet, probably because of the plumming.

Review 91:Room was romantic and lovely and service was excellent. We got good tips where to go for jogging and in the evening for dinner. good location in the city center.

Review 95:Nothing really to dislike but I did telephone the hotel back in April to check that the room we were booking was on first floor, and yet when we arrived we found it was on second floor!

Review 96:The host was very welcoming, location great, by the Loire and close to the chateau - also with easy parking. We had a lovely suite which was very spacious. A mirror in the room would have been useful and surprised that there were no toiletries and maybe small bottle of water and glasses in the room would have been nice. Breakfast was good and coffee delicious.
