Reviews for Kingscliff Hotel
Review 1:WiFi was intermittent at best.
Review 2:Very helpful staff. Nice bar area and dining area. Would stay here again. Good location away from town center with more than adequate free parking. Highly recommended.
Review 3:Had an awful experience at 5:30am where It was Impossible to use the toilet as It was built wrong far too close to the heater! I myself had to request upgraded room( which I got),requested ( no apology)free breakfast which was awful( burnt bacon, hard eggs( when requested soft) replaced! Avoid breakfast £10.00 a plate. No buffet!
Review 4:Nothing!
Review 5:Cold bathroom. Radiator turned on but no heat!!
Review 6:Service and friendliness of all staff. Beds very comfortable. Spare blanket available. Brought our own sheet as we do not care for duvet!
Review 7:When it was time to go home!
Review 8:Me and the Mrs really appreciated how accommodating all of the staff were and how nice our stay was overall, will definitely be going back!
Review 9:Would love faster staff at breakfast and a butter knife wouldn't go a miss.
Review 10:Everything, cabs to Clacton are cheaper than bus. Staff were wonderful and so was the room
Review 11:WE THOUGHT THE DINNER FOOD WAS OVERPRICED AND VERY OFTEN UNDERCOOKED. THE BREAKFASTS WERE VERY PALTRY AND LIMITED IN CHOICE OF FRUIT.
Review 12:LOCATION, FRIENDLY STAFF & COMFORT IN THE ROOM.
Review 13:Nothing except breakfast could have been better value for money
Review 14:Beautifully clean, extremely courteous and helpful staff. Breakfast could have been better value for money, they need a new toaster. Room was very large and exceptionally clean, bed was soooo comfortable. Bar prices reasonable. Nice walk into Clacton
Review 15:There was cigarette box under the bed Room wasn't clean no hair dryer also its supposed to be no smoking
Review 16:It was by the sea which was great and away from shops quiet
Review 17:Traffic noise Bathroom appeared grubby due to yellowing around sink plug hole; blackened shower cubicle sealant
Review 18:Really comfortable beds Very friendly staff Nice bar; reasonable prices Room with view; 3 windows (nice and bright); and we were trust to open them YAY (lovely breeze)
Review 19:not a bad experience computers were down we gave permission to pay on debit card the lady on reception was going e mail before doing so
Review 20:friendly staff polite helpful comfortable room sea view could not ask for more would stay again wa
Review 21:Mould around shower Food could have been better The couple of requests we made were forgotten. (Was sorted, once pointed out)
Review 22:Parking, pleasant and cheerful staff. On arrival there was a lamp missing, no chair, and shortage of hangers. This was dealt with straight away, cheerfully and pleasantly.
Review 23:The only down point was that being a weekday breakfast stopped at 09:00 so did not make breakfast
Review 24:Able to book in very early and were allocated a suite. Very friendly staff.
Review 25:We booked 2 rooms and one was much smaller, overlooked the car park but still cost the same.
Review 26:Fantastic location, sit on terrace and look out to sea. No better way to start the day after one of the nicest cooked breakfasts had in a hotel.
Review 27:no minibar, a meal in the restaurant depends on what you expect to get. Salad with ham and cheese meant a few shradded leaves of green salad, half of a slice of cucumber, two slices of tomato covered by a greater portion of sliced ham and a little sliced cheese. the beefburger served on a little too small wooden board with chips was ok but without a salad at all. We wouldn´t especially wouldn´t go there for a meal again. but there are other possibilities in town center!
Review 28:staff very friendly, spacy room (not your mentionned 150 qm, 15 qm would be reasonable!) new bathroom, working toilet (something special for England!) nice spacy shower unit with two kind of browses, seafiew, functionable windows possible to open even wide, free big parking area, situated directly on the seafront but in a quiet part holand on sea handicapped room on the entrance floor
Review 29:No lift. Cooked breakfast was luke warm. Single room had all I could wish for BUT was very small, almost claustrophobic.
Review 30:Friendly, enthusiastic and helpful staff. Free parking. Located on seafront, only a short walk to the beach. Continental Breakfast was good.
Review 31:The room was slightly stuffey perhaps air con could be installed. Because it was a ground floor room the window only opened a little way which I totally understand for security reasons
Review 32:Everything was so easy from checking in to checking out. Staff were very professional
Review 33:No hot water in the shower in the morning. There was 2 different depth of the mattress on the bed . We had to cancel breakfast due to the waiting time.
Review 34:The location
Review 35:do not go when there is wedding not aloud in the bar at one stage could not get out the front entrance had to go out the back door
Review 36:location and staff good
Review 37:There was a wedding reception in the evening, which was fine by us but in the morning there was only one member of staff in the dining room for all other guests, which meant there were no clean tables laid out, slow service but worst of all the breakfast was inedible - other guests were discussing it also. The eggs were not cooked to order and were tasteless, bacon undercooked and mushrooms cold and toast like cardboard. We walked out as did another couple although we didn't complain at the time as there was no one around and we had to get on the road. A relative who recommended the hotel has since complained to them about the breakfast but they say no refund.
Review 38:Room was nice, clean and comfortable
Review 39:In our room the shower only worked intermittently and not at all in the morning.
Review 40:The bedrooms and en suite facilities have recently undergone a makeover.
Review 41:Room to hot couldn't have fan on as to noisy. Couldn't open drapes to let air in as lights from carpark lite up the whole room bathroom like a suna.said in clacton but was in fact in holland pn sea quite a long walk to clacton had to tale car.
Review 42:Nice room clean and comfortable. Staff friendly.
Review 43:Smell in the rooms (my sisters room stinks). Our was better but still not good. Curtains in the shower were dirty and smell awful.
Review 44:Nice staff & close to the see
Review 45:Dinner was a little underwhelming and seating a little odd.
Review 46:Several spacious and varied seating areas inside and out. Views of the sea. Plenty of parking. Lovely interior design.
Review 47:Nothing I didnt like.
Review 48:The rooms were clean and a good size. Staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and in good condition. Lovely sea view from our room. Not too close to pier so it was nice and peaceful at night.
Review 49:Expensive for location.staff had communication issues, room window opened into car park. car parked out side window with engine running early morning.
Review 50:Nice hotel.decorated well. Large car park.
Review 51:The shower. Was lovely but half way through shower water ran out on my partner. I went to reception they gave me key to room next door. My partner had to run, soaking wet along corridor to the next room wrapped in s towel to wash off soap. They said sorry but they offered nothing for our inconvenience, not even a drink and still took full payment from us. Unacceptable really
Review 52:The room and the view
Review 53:Our room was very warm and stuffy. A fan was requested but didn't come til our last night at the hotel.
Review 54:We loved the location so close to the sea, our family, and traveling venues. The food and service was great!
Review 55:The bed was very uncomfortable I struggled to sleep! Woke up with a very painful back.
Review 56:Apart from the bed everything else was perfect the room was very clean and the staff were very polite towards us.
Review 57:The only thing missing was a hanger for the towel.
Review 58:Just about everything. The Kingscliff Hotel even has it's own pub, Holland-on-Sea is the genuine English village and for those with children there's the beach, a huge park not far away as well as the Pier (amusement park) a couple of km (1½ mile) away. Grrrreat value for money!
Review 59:We requested a room change from a booked suite to a double room (as used on a earlier stay in July) on arrival. Owners should define a "suite" from a double with a sea view, not impressed with our planned "suite" booking.
Review 60:Our double room, the bed and shower. Along with friendly and helpfull staff.
Review 61:We didn't stay for breakfast as we felt it was too expensive. That's the only downfall.
Review 62:The bed was like being at home, so comfortable. It's not often you can say that with hotels! Great location, great staff, great modern hotel.
Review 63:Being woken in the middle of the night by members of staff outside the window smoking.
Review 64:Nice hotel with a bar and restaurant. Not many people in the hotel.
Review 65:Staff very approachable. Could do with better beer/lager selection only one hand pump on. Good choice of wine but both wine and lager glass covered in dust ...on inside and out. Staff changed however without fuss. Breakfast at 9am is to early to finish for a holiday location so ate elsewhere.
Review 66:Friendliness of staff,
Review 67:Quite a few niggles. All of the staff were very pleasant but not properly trained for their jobs. Everything took far too long ie pouring of round of drinks, waiting too long for a few sandwiches for lunch. Silly mistakes like no serving spoons for buffet food, no plates for bread/toast at breakfast. Having to make your own toast at breakfast once the cooked food had been served. The staff should have advised that this needed to be done when taking the food order. Breakfast was cold by the time the toast was ready. The bedroom was reasonably well appointed but it was unbearably hot, even with all the windows open. The beds were awful. Far too soft with no support. Terrible back ache the next day.
Review 68:Good location for attending the funeral we needed to go to. General overview of hotel was ok. Décor very pleasant. Booking and booking in easy.
Review 69:A bit slow at breakfast, had to ask for bowl for fruit, butter for toast and milk for tea.The staff need to keep breakfast table replenished.
Review 70:Location good for our visit to nearby relatives. Room clean and comfortable. Staff friendly.
Review 71:Single room was a little small & warm.. unable to open the windows [in room or bathroom], but fan was provided [& appreciated!] Rain shower head looked amazing but had not been cleaned, so not enough jets came out to work properly. 2nd smaller shower head of amazing!
Review 72:Though run by young staff.. extremely courteous & efficient. Hotel was classic, clean & quiet. Lovely location looking over the beach...
Review 73:we did not use the bar as there was a wedding reception going on so you felt like you were intruding on the party even going to the reception you had to walk through the the party /bar and back against to go to our room we even heard most the of party people leaving the party going to their cars in the car park right under our room windows
Review 74:The room was very nice and clean the bathroom was very clean and bright and very stylish
Review 75:Very little just not enough to do do on a rainy day
Review 76:Good staff nice room ( number 10 but along walk with cases) good car parking resort was nice but little to do other than machine arcades and ten pin bowling.
Review 77:Even though the weather had cooled down we were still very hot - which didn't allow for a good night's sleep. There was some confusion about menus. We didn't realise that a set menu applied on Sundays, and not everything was available in any case. no disabled parking.
Review 78:The staff were helpful and courteous. They arranged for a ground floor room - which was not shown on "Booking.com" booking form. The food was good and nicely presented.
Review 79:I was appalled to find that when we arrived some 20 mins after check in time our room was not made up. After some huffing and puffing, it was finally made up some 20 mins later. Receptionist not very responsive to my concerns really.
Review 80:air con would be a bonus
Review 81:Beautiful hotel, room was fantastic and spotless. Will definitely be returing for another visit & would highly reccommend.
Review 82:Lovely receptionist I believe her name was Vanessa and the duty manager who dealt with our complaint about our mattress so efficiently and with great empathy.
Review 83:I thought someone was moving wheelie bins around outside during the night. BUT this was nothing to do with hotel. Sea defences are being repaired and boatloads of boulders are delivered, by sea, at night when its high tide and that was the noise. Now think it was interesting experience. i will live on the story.
Review 84:Flexibility and friendliness of staff. Obvious new decoration of rooms was excellent. Loved the bathroom.
Review 85:Would just like to say that I only read about the live events after Ihad made the booking as it was right at the bottom of the page .As ithappened there was no event on so we had a good nights sleep which Idon't think would have been the case if there was .This informationshould be far more obvious so that clients can make an informed choice
Review 86:A very clean room with very comfortable bed and a quiet room which wehad asked for .Didn't stay for breakfast .Staff helpful.
Review 87:Room was very warm even with heating off. Had to open windows. They are doing work on foreshore so might be noisy in days to come.
Review 88:Friendly staff. Opposite beach.
Review 89:When it windy, it is windy, but that is after all the chance you take when on the ocean.
Review 90:Location and service. Near Clacton-on-Sea which offers more shopping and a seaside carnival. Excellent service.
Review 91:When traveling with a young family you are always worried about how the staff will treat you but the staff couldn't be more helpful, would recommend it!
Review 92:The single room no. 11 is very hot and looks over a flat roof to windows opposite. No view at all. Noisy as extraction vent is at back of hotel. I asked to move rooms after 1st night and they upgraded me to double seaview room!! Very very impressed!
Review 93:The view from the room at the front is glorious on a sunny day. The cleanliness and decor of the room is spotless. Very contemporary and nice to have kettle with tea and coffee facilities.
Review 94:Person in the room next door practicing on what sounded like a cello at 9am.
Review 95:Very welcoming and friendly staff. Clean and spacious rooms with good wifi. Highly recommend!
Review 96:Breakfast really needs to be looked at. Buffet bits all ok, but cooked breakfast abysmal. cold previously cooked and kept warm congealed bacon, black hard mushrooms???? bizarre, horrible sausage and Cold beans - scrambled eggs fine. The breakfast chefs cannot be the same as the evening restaurant chefs? really needs to be looked at as wouldnt book and pay for breakfast again......would do room only.
Review 97:We liked almost everything about our stay. Especially the young staff - everyone of them superb, doing their jobs, well trained, polite, friendly and couldnt do enough for you. The food from the restaurant was first class, rump of lamb, and ginger and garlic chicken the next night - all cooked to perfection including lovely fresh veg, piping hot and just the right amount. Couldnt fault it.
Review 98:No mattress cover on bed. Maid was knocking on door at 9.30 even though do not disturb sign was on.
Review 99:Nice size room, Bed was comfy (one grumble there was no mattress cover on the bed) Bathroom was lovely with a nice hot shower
Review 100:It was further from Clacton rail station than the impression on map directions given. On the boundary of Holland on Sea.
Review 101:The room was clean, a comfortable bed, the room was fitted a powerful shower, good quality facilities. Will certainly return.
Review 102:cost of food, being as we were pensioners, to expensive. Unfortunately the beach was closed off due to repairs, which was not the hotels fault
Review 103:rooms, staff very amicable.
Review 104:In room 14 our sleep was disturbed by an unexplained regular thud coming from the bathroom area. Was it the plumbing ? Or a ghostly presence ?
Review 105:The room was very nicely decorated, large and comfortable.
Review 106:breakfast although cooked fresh small portions, states sausages ( plural) on the menu for full English but you only get one and bit mean on the mushroom portions
Review 107:bed tv good free wi fi
Review 108:Nothing
Review 109:We have just stayed for a two nights as we have an elderly relative in hospital, the room was so nice as was the bathroom,we ate in the restaurant on the last night and it was excellent, will be staying again.
Review 110:the first night i had a cold shower and had to get my wife out of the bath to warm up, when we arrived someone had just been in to check it so they obviously had been having problems. It was working the next morning
Review 111:Bedroom and bathroom decorated to a high standard. Bed very comfortable
Review 112:Staff good and friendly Breakfast good - service a little slow but then they offer to cook according to your specification e.g. the eggs, poached , fried boiled etc. so fine if not in a great hurry
Review 113:Very noisy power shower from our room and others! Room was described as a suite. Sorry, but it might have been an executive room, but NOT a suite.
Review 114:Freshly refurbished room. Comfortable bed. Great bathroom with massive, powerful shower.
Review 115:WiFi - several routers available at the hotel but was only able to connect (on two separate devices) to the weakest signal which was intermittent at best.
Review 116:Very clean. Comfy bed. Great food and ale.
Review 117:The staff were very helpful, especially Amanda who noticed that I had difficulty walking and changed our room to one next to the top of the stairs which also provided a walk in shower, Very much appreciated!
Review 118:Very firm foam pillows which I know is a preference for some, but if there was an option for feather pillows It would be ideal, as that's the only that stopped. Me sleeping.
Review 119:Stunning hotel in a fabulous location, plenty of parking.
Review 120:Initial problems accessing WiFi
Review 121:Lovely room, comfortable bed, tea & coffee making facilities, T.V. WiFi and excellent breakfast. Friendly and polite staff.
Review 122:The room was very hot and despite turning the heating off and openingthe two windows on one of the coldest nights of the winter it wasstill too hot
Review 123:Clean tidy & modern
Review 124:Downstairs looking a bit plain in comparsion
Review 125:New decorating upstairs and in the rooms. Very tasteful. Hotel is clean. Staff excellent. Plenty of parking. Location is great for coastal walking.
Review 126:Camp bed in room not very comfortable. Morning staff not as professional as evening.
Review 127:Loved sea views from corner bedroom, room 19. Great TV and luxurious shower. Plenty of room even with extra bed up. Staff in the evening could not have been better. Good bar menu and food
Review 128:The full English Breakfast was overcooked, the bacon was very tough and it took a long time from ordering to actually being served breakfast.
Review 129:The attentive Staff.
Review 130:Wifi was a bit poor kept dropping out which was a bit disruptive but other than that nothing
Review 131:Needed a last minute bed and this was a great find, very affordable in a great location for me as a business user
Review 132:The confusion with the non refundable breakfast which was very average and no where near 9.95 worth, please be consistent with the rooms tissues ran out and washing facilities for one day only.
Review 133:everything else was well above average. A lovely place.
Review 134:Very thin, cheap toilet paper. Small quantities of shower gel and shampoo, enough for only one having one shower, no conditioner. Breakfast not included and very poor at nearly £10 per person. Very slow, poor service. Dirty net curtains, dirty shower screen, shallow shower tray that looked like it would overflow. No WiFi. Credit card charge and a receptionist who couldn't (apparently) count cash. En-suite doubles available in town for a lot less and only 5 quid for a lorry drivers breakfast.
Review 135:We paid £115 for a double room for one Saturday night. The room was nothing special, but the bed was OK. From the advertising pamflet in the room, executive rooms are only £80 over Christmas/New Year. Wouldn't fancy that from our experience.
Review 136:The only downside was the sofa bed our son slept on, the mattress was thin and the springs were evident, not very comfortable. A shame because the rest of the stay was exceptional.
Review 137:Main bed was like sleeping on a cloud, good quality mattress and bedding. The room was spotlessly clean and supplied with hot drink facilities. The shower was big enough for two. We ate in the bar and the food was excellent
Review 138:Window high up which made it a bit claustrophobic. However, as room on ground floor and backing onto car park perhaps not such a bad thing.
Review 139:Comfortable room and modern bathroom.
Review 140:Waited 20 minutes for a boiled egg for breakfast.
Review 141:Chef will surprise you with his superb menu and quality of food. Evening staff also very helpful. large bedroom 3. Quiet even though at back (next to car park entrance) But it was October so couldn't say whether this will be the case in summer.Hotel is a great find for this area Great find for this area
Review 142:Music playing loudly from reception downstairs starting at 0815, could be very clearly heard from inside our room :{
Review 143:Nice spacious room, comfortable, large double bed and excellent shower. Also had a sea view .
Review 144:The kingscliffe was out base for two days while attending a funeral, we found that it was peaceful and private which was perfect for this trip. I think the hotel will be buzzing in the summer and would be perfect for a wedding.
