Reviews for Ardamis

Review 1:Breakfast not included in price, since room is on the expensive side

Review 2:quiet location facing the sea, very friendly staff, quality of breakfast, decor, size of room, pet-friendliness

Review 3:The most amazing location within the romantic castle walls of Monemvasia, with a balcony and view that truly feels as if you're a king (or queen) within a Medieval castle. Service was great, mr. Ardamis was very friendly and helpful in all possible respects. Definetely a recommandation for everybody!!!

Review 4:Staying in the two-store stone apartment was a unique experience. It was like living again the glorious days of Monemvasia, like an insider. It cannot be described with words, you have to live it!

Review 5:Organic bio breakfast was so beautiful and the suite we had was really really lovely and in keeping with the style of Monemvasia made of stone and wood. Went swimming off the rocks nearby in crystal clear water.. just amazing!

Review 6:We loved the fact that we felt we were inside the Castle. It was like being in cave. The design in the room was simple elegance. We had the room in height to shower, and the charm of the room would certainly bring us back there again. It was really something we will all remember. Our kids especially loved it and it was quiet!

Review 7:the beds are not very comfortable breakfast not before 9:00 AM No possibility to have one drink in the evening

Review 8:the location of the place nice hotel with a friendly owner Breafast is very nice and healthy

Review 9:none

Review 10:everything!!! Especially the host grandpa, soooo nice and cute, made us feel at home:-). Monemvasia was really a fabulous place, staying in ardamis for 2 nights surely the best experience among our trip in Greece!

Review 11:Fabulous location within castle walls. We had a two level suite which had lovely balconies with sea and local views. Breakfast served in our courtyard was excellent. Friendly staff and within easy reach of castle tavernas and bars. Walk into castle from parking lot is manageable with minimum luggage, but be prepared for some steps.

Review 12:We only stayed one night so we appreciated the excellent location wth charming rooms. Great for a family of 4 as the bedrooms were located in 2 separate mezzanine areas. We appreciated the provision of a kettle for a late night cup of tea! Our breakfast was one of the best we had on our visit to Greece. Very friendly staff.

Review 13:We loved our stay in Monemvasia at the Ardamis Guesthouse. Our host, Bill, was very warm and welcoming, even if he didn't speak a lot of English. We stayed in a wonderful little two bedroom, two story house with historic charm and sweeping sea views. It was clean, comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped (Bill even stocked the fridge with some essentials free of charge!). All in all one of the best stays we have ever had!!

Review 14:I was a little unsure about the bathroom window being right on the walkway but it was not a problem at all.

Review 15:The location was terrific and the size of the apartment was perfect.

Review 16:Truly one of the most unique and special places we've ever stayed. We stayed in the suite with the cistern...talk about special details! The service was tops, breakfast's delicious, and the location idyllic. Can't recommend Ardamis enough!

Review 17:Rustic charm and delicious healthy breakfasts. Staying at Ardamis you can almost imagine you are time traveling back 500 years but with all modern conveniences. Such a wonderful place to stay, in this wonderful old walled city.

Review 18:Lovely modernized place dating back to the 800s. Very large living room and bedroom. Bathroom had plenty of hot water. Monemvasia is beautiful night and day. Our location was perfect to enjoy it. It was quiet at night so we slept well. The breakfast was very nice. We had it in the garden patio. We only stayed overnight so we left our rolling luggage in our car and parked the car on the causeway road, about a half kilometer walk from the castle entrance and so only a short distance beyond to Ardamis. We carried small backpacks in.

Review 19:We loved everything!

Review 20:The quality of the accommodation and the welcome of the owner was territic. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay; the location, the comfort, the facilities in a glorious apartment. We cannot recommend more highly.

Review 21:Easy to get to from the entrance gate to the citadel (important if carrying luggage) and a wonderful room/suite, blending original architectural features with all the mod cons.

Review 22:We went to Greece for our honeymoon and spent one night there, Monemvasia is beautiful and the guest house was amazing, beyond words. The staff were very kind, friendly and attentive. Would def recommend.

Review 23:We had a wonderful stay at Ardimas. We took the advice of others and took an overnight bag rather than trying to wheel suitcases up and down stone steps and through rough walk ways. We were upgraded to a much larger apartment and our breakfast, which was fit for a king, was set out for us in the dining room each morning. Ardamis has loads of character and charm, is very clean and located an easy distance from the main entrance. Highly recommended.

Review 24:These accommodations surpassed all expectations. The location was a beautiful. steps away from the old fortification walls overlooking the ocean. The room was very large and beautifully decorated. We had a private courtyard and a front café table overlooking the ocean. Our hosts were amazingly pleasant and generous. I recommend this with the highest recommendation.

Review 25:On some occasions, sitting in the courtyard felt a little bit like being an exhibit, or an animal in the zoo, as other visitors to Monemvassia peered through the doorway or indeed wandered in and took pictures of each other.

Review 26:An 800 year old well, a bathroom with a vaulted ceiling and marble floor and walls, comfortable bedroom and sitting area, all illuminated by a quite bizarre lighting system. The stuff of fantasy, and well worth the cost. The outside courtyard, covered by beautiful Jasmine and Bourganvilia was ideal for breakfast and relaxing. Or hosts could not have been more helpful or attentive.

Review 27:Start with a large luxurious bed room with comfortable bed. Add in the large living area with sublime decorations. Plus a extensive and yummy breakfast on the terrace. Not far away is a quaint old town with cobbled streets and a castle. Sea views and an excellent swimming place beside the ramparts with unique views. It all adds up to Atmosphere Plus!

Review 28:Although our room was in a perfect location and well equipped, it would have been very hot in peak summer - as it was on the ground floor overlooking a little grass area, opening windows meant that passers by could look in. Also, the lighting was rather complicated and the multicoloured LED lights totally unnecessary..... The suite ( and in fact most of the Castro) would be unsuitable for disabled people - you really do have to go up and down a lot of uneven steps everywhere in the village....

Review 29:Owners were delightful and the breakfast ( served on the roof terrace overlooking the sea) was fabulous. We had the best yogurt with mixed fruit, nuts and honey that I have ever tasted. When this inevitably attracted wasps, our attentive hostess brought out some smouldering coffee grounds, and they disappeared immediately - a useful trick to know!

Review 30:That we cannot stay longer!

Review 31:We got upgraded to the Suite! Very spacious and beautiful! The Owner and his wife are very friendly, he invited us to have coffee/ fresh squeezed orange juice in his terrace during sunset time! The breakfast prepared by his wife was great!

Review 32:Parking is outside the citdel which requires a 10 or 15 minute walk and once inside the citdel all the street are windingand or steps. Not a good choose if you walk with a cane, need a baby stroller or are disabled.

Review 33:Restoration of this old facility has been very well done. It is relaxing with exposed stone and speciality light that enhances relaxing in your room. Views are outstanding and owner run the facility. Not to be missed book your stay today!

Review 34:Very dark, eary blue lights, the ad said there was a kitchen but in fact no stove, no pans, not possible to cook. The outside space was advertised as pèrivate but in fact was shared by three apartments

Review 35:Great location

Review 36:The worst thing about staying in Momenvasia is transferring your baggage from the car to the Hotel up and down steep cobbled streets. A small bag packed with whatever you need for your stay is advisable.

Review 37:The location was second to none and the suites were extremely comfortable and individual, our balcony had a sea view which was a plus. An unforgettable experience to stay within the walls of Momenvasia and the hotel added to this.

Review 38:Nothing.

Review 39:Location (in the castle), cleanness, comfort, small details (local made honey for breakfast, KORRES toiletries), very friendly owners (better say hosts).

Review 40:A few araes could be improved given the prices. We stayed in the four bed vaults: extensive lighting a bit unnecessary and the air conditioning not powerful enough to cool the rooms or provide any air movement. Little cool shade for breakfast.

Review 41:Spacious and spotless apartment in great location. Personal Hamman a real treat. Friendly hosts.

Review 42:Had to park car on the road down the mountain. Too difficult to carry luggage through the castle lanes.

Review 43:Unusual location We were in a restored functioning castle

Review 44:Wonderful hotel! Excellent and healthy breakfast, helpful staff. The location is perfect - close to the gate and the main street and gorgeous views from the terraces.

Review 45:Nothing, a little more shadow on the breakfast terrace would be a plus

Review 46:Everything, the spacious and original rooms in the old castro, the friendliness of the owners, the fresh breakfast, the views...

Review 47:You need a walk couple of 100 meters with your luggage

Review 48:Excellent location and very helpful staff (the owners). The breakfast on the terrace is simply the perfectway to start your day.

Review 49:Monemvasia is a unique place - and Ardamis is an equally unique hotel. Built in an 800 years old house where you both get the experince of the old and get the pleasures of modern amenities. We stayed in an apartment that had everything - even a small Hamam! The room had a small cosy outside courtyard, and when you walked out of the courtyard door you were just next to the city wall. And if you need more of a sun balcony you could just go through the reception area and there there was a very big balcony with the most wonderful view. But facilities and location does not alone make a great hotel - the staff/owners is also very important. And when concerning the staff/owners at Ardamis you do not only get an excellent hotel guest service - the fantastic hosts at Ardamis makes you feel as guest of the house. In all aspects of your stay you feel welcome. And the breakfast is outstanding! Ardamis is one of those hotels you consider not to recommend - because you really, really want to keep it to yourself!! But that would not be fair - this hotel is highly recommended!!

Review 50:Avoid Superior Suite !!! That's not 4 level apartment, but stuffy, dark, bad ventilation, high level of moisture, with only one airconditioner, very noisy basement, with Reception on the top. Alwaysnoisy, people walking at the top in reception, in evening high levelsound on tv till 2.00am. In this "Apartment" (reallybasement) only one window, three doors with glass in middle , thruthis, everybody from the street can watch what you doing. In advert youcan find info about soundproofing, forget ! This is not true ! Ceilingfrom wood, all noise from Reception, doors without double glazing orgasket. You can disappoint for Patio too, because very small place, stuffy, and you must be share with another apartments. You will be verylucky, if from next apartments people don't use Patio, becauseyours Bed stay after door. Wardrobe is very small, maybe for twotrouser and two T-shirt. Inside very controversial castle design. Itlooks like cheap replica ! On the ceiling fitted cheap China Led bulbs, which change color, and effect like Disco 80's !!! Controversialquestion about 800 year old Well too. I think reception must be in thisbasement with this " The Well". In Superior Suite, and Suiteis very controversial area size (quadrature). In advert 100 sq meters, but it looks much less. In breakfast area, no umbrellas !!! Breakfasttime is from 9.00 to 12.00. You must be take you breakfast in Sunshine, when outside can be +38 c !!!

Review 51:Staff friendly, do his job all in best. We done big mistake, whenbooking Superior Suite, but staff find good solution, change to Suite.Suite is brilliant. Breakfast is nice.

Review 52:On the downside, our satellite TV wasn't working, neither was the AC in the bedroom. Not a big thing, but we were staying here during the Germany - Argentina final (I am of German descent), and it wasn't so much the fact that the AC wasn't working, but the insistence of the owners that there was nothing wrong. By the time we left after our 2 night stay, just turning on the AC would trip the main breaker for the whole apartment.

Review 53:Being located in the Castro, this hotel is truly quaint and very lovely. It is also very close to the gates, so bringing in your luggage is not as much of a chore (and trust me, wheeled suitcases are not much help on cobblestones like these!) We had a lovely apartment, the breakfast is fabulous, and staying in the old town is well worth the money. The views from the terrace are stunning, though an umbrella or two might provide some much needed shade.

Review 54:this isn't a 'didn't like' but if you have any mobility problems or small kids with buggies this may not be the place for you as it's in the castle grounds with loads of stone slippery steps and quite a distance from where you can park the car to get the bags to the room (they have helpers if you want it)

Review 55:The location, the atmosphere, the unspoilt and non-commercialisation of the whole place, the bed, the view, the best breakfast ever, the friendliness of the owners Vassilis & his wife. We loved it all and wish we could have stayed longer. It's very special!

Review 56:Great setting in traffic free old town. 3 mins to rocky platform for swimming and 3 mins to local tavernas and bars. Bedroom with seating area has two vaulted ceilings - very atmospheric. Nice seating area outside for people watching and sunset views Excellent breakfast on (very friendly) hosts' terrace with sea view

Review 57:Our property was far from the main office so no breakfast was possible. Really a separate apartment, not like staying in a hotel. There was no wifi, but we managed to pirate off someone else's wifi. If you want to stay in a hotel with a front desk etc. this is not the place for you.

Review 58:Lovely cozy apartment with amazing view of the sea and the rest of the town. Traditional touches in the apartment, and fridge stocked with water, soda, etc. Kitchen would have made it possible to re-heat take-out food, but we opted to eat in a restaurant in town. Garden with large table and plenty of space to hang wet suits and towels. Wonderful place to swim by the walls a few minutes walk away. Very charming.

Review 59:Air conditioner was dripping water. One window was loose.

Review 60:Gorgeous location in a beautiful walled city. Beautiful views to the ocean. We had a large comfortable house with a private terrace.

Review 61:It's a fair walk from where you can park - so take a small bag....well worth the walk

Review 62:So friendly and a delicious breakfast

Review 63:Wifi was weak; lighting controls were confusing

Review 64:Beautiful grounds, lovely , very nice location; all amenities provided; great staff.

Review 65:Amazing place - touch of history together with touristic attraction. Friendly staff, luxury and healthy breakfast, unbeliavable atmosphere.

Review 66:Spicy prices (worth it although)

Review 67:Location Breakfast Clean Spacious room Close to city gate

Review 68:Being able to stay within the town walls is a real delight.

Review 69:The location inside the castle, the extraordinary breakfast and the owners kindness

Review 70:Parking for the city is in flux. The Staff can help here.

Review 71:the staff!

Review 72:Friendly service. Fabulous breakfast. Central but quiet location.

Review 73:The room was superb The staff fantastic The breakfast unbelievable The location was superb

Review 74:Nothing

Review 75:Location Great service Reasonable price for luxury accomodation

Review 76:The suite and the superior suite have quite the same price but are not quite similar. The Suite hasn't a good bathroom

Review 77:NO - WIFI Shower needs replacement

Review 78:The acropolis was closed for work. Check to make certain it will be open.

Review 79:True historical medieval town

Review 80:LOCATION. ROOM, STAFF,BREAKFAST,VIEW,LOVED IT ALL!

Review 81:We stayed in the lux room with a medieval well. But as far as we saw all the rooms of this hotel are absolutely unique. It is wonderfully located: nearby the castle wall of Monemvasia. So when you leave the room you find yourself in front of the sea, with the old town behind you. The sunrises are fascinating! We loved the room - impressive design, multi-leveled, equipped with everything necessary. The lighting system includes a great number of lighting types. Besides there was extra entrance into patio from the room, it was so cosy and quiet. The breakfasts are outstanding - very tasty, balanced and healthy. The innkeepers are very friendly and attentive, they are ready to help you with any problem.

Review 82:A more frequent renewal of shower products should be considered. A buffet kind of breakfast would be more preferable.

Review 83:Location is exceptional and the view from the main terrace is unique. Large variety of rooms which are huge and may satisfy different needs, from families to couples.

Review 84:Breakfast starts at 9am, would be great if that could be earlier.

Review 85:Simply amazing. Great location, wonderful apartment, great staff... Would come back any day.

Review 86:Getting to the apartment is a bit tricky, and could be difficult to find and access is difficult if you have luggage.

Review 87:Great location, great, friendly and helpful host, and a beautiful place with great views

Review 88:There was nothing I didn't like about this place. It was divine.

Review 89:Beautiful apartment, amazing location and views, perfectly decorated, very clean, incredibly helpful staff.

Review 90:Limited English spoken and no replies given to my email asking about parking.

Review 91:We only stayed one night so we did not fully experience some of the in room facilities. We sat outside the studio to eat our take away lunch and dinner, the settings were fabulous. The breakfast was top quality as was every aspect of our stay.

Review 92:The kitchen and bathroom were rather dated and old fashioned but it did not detract from our holiday. In our apartment there was a very complicated lighting system which took a bit of getting used to

Review 93:We thought the setting was breathtaking, all the staff extremely helpful and the breakfast was out of this world

Review 94:Great location, exceptional view, ideal for a quiet retreat. Room was splendid with old vaulted ceilings, bed was excellent, cleaning service very good, breakfast excellent and plentiful, The staff was very cordial and helpful. The best value inside Monemvasia castle. Will definitely visit again.

Review 95:Nothing!

Review 96:The attention to detail at Ardamis was outstanding. Despina could not have been more welcoming and helpful and we loved everything about this beautiful place.

Review 97:There was not a whole bathroom in our suite. There was a shower and asmall separate wc room next to it, but as the owners told us, that wasonly in our suite. WiFi only in the upper balcony...

Review 98:The location is the best inside the castle!! The owners will doeverything to do your staying memorable, they are absolutely amazing! The suites are decorated with great taste, full of wood, stone andarches and the building itself was where Byzantine emperors used tolive... There are all sorts of coffee that you can make in your ownsuite completely free of charge.

Review 99:Everything was perfect!

Review 100:Excellent location (default in Monemvasia, but the amazing terrace added this extra something), very friendly and always willing to assist owners/staff, over-the-top room (one of the best we have stayed in and we have travelled quite a lot) to which the photos don't do justice (one of the rare cases), delicious breakfast and the list goes on...!

Review 101:The hotel's location is spectacular. The room was beautiful and worth every penny. The service was friendly and relaxed. Highly recommended and be sure to include breakfast (freshly made pastries).

Review 102:Excellent hospitality. Great views, accommodation homely comfortable and all mod cons. We had a wonderful breakfast, which we enjoyed on our private balcony. Our stay was perfect.

Review 103:The hotel is immaculate with tremendous character and located within the walls of an ancient village on a cliff overlooking the ocean. An incredibly unique and unforgettable experience. You enter the village through a gate in the ancient wall and the hotel is near the gate, a definite advantage for transporting luggage over narrow and steep cobblestone paths.

Review 104:The hospitality of Mr and Mrs Ardamis was amazing! The hotel was extraordinary. The room was in a fantastic location within the Monemvasia's ancient castle, clean, the breakfast was delicious and the bed was made for the ultimate sleep experience! We will definitely visit Hotel Ardamis again in the future. Thank you for making our vacation so good!

Review 106:Unbelievable value at an amazing hotel. We stayed in three different "3-5 star" hotels in Athens and were very disappointed in the quality and cleanliness. Ardamis was far and away the BEST hotel we stayed at in Greece. It was clean and beautiful by any standards. The location was great...our room literally was on the water. You walk out our door about 20 ft. and you're right at the stone wall surrounding the fortress overlooking the sea. Owners spoke a little English and were SUPER nice to us. Offered us free beverages whenever we saw them and always had a smile on their faces. Honestly if we ever make it back to this part of the world, we'll absolutely stay here again.

Review 108:If you have trouble with stairs this is not the place for you. But if you can manage the... Wow, well worth it!

Review 109:Location was inside the old castle walls. Right on the sea wall. We had the two room apt with kitchen , living room and a sauna.

Review 110:We suffered a lot of Wind during the night, but obviously this hasnothing to do with the hotel!

Review 111:The place is just outstanding. We were in a two floor house, with allsort of facilities. Worthwhile the detour to Monemvassia and theexperience of sleeping in the fortress in a place like Ardamis. Highlyrecommended and I would come back anytime

Review 112:We had a very pleasant one-day stay in Ardamis in July 2013 (I truly wish it were longer :) ) It's a great feeling to realize that you are staying within a real (and still "living") fortress, and in a truly old building as well! Don't miss this opportunity. Even searching you way through the staircases and narrow passes back to the hotel room is a part of the experience. We were really glad we chose Ardamis - very special atmosphere and all the necessary comfort and facilities at the same time, sound of waves below the castle walls, late coffee under starry sky on our hosts' terrace, breakfast with fresh juice and hot bakery in the cozy yard. The family who own the hotel were very friendly and so hospitable!

Review 113:Could be better: variety of breakfast

Review 114:Great location, right in the middle of the castle Excellent terrace to view the town, beach and have breakfast. Really the best location. Awesome room (the premium suite) with multiple rooms and levels and the old water well. Sweet suite A lot of space Friendly and helpful owner lady. Nicely decorated, great design. Combination of authentic and modern facilities. Service for carrying suitcases is provided upon request (for a tip for the poor guy lugging your heavy stuff) (just communicate with the hotel. (you have to park outside the castle, could be a 5-15 minute walk)) A truly unique experience.
