Reviews for Château de Beaulieu

Review 1:Nothing we did not llike.

Review 2:The authenticity of the building, it is beautiful. The owner Marywelcomes you as though you are a member of the family and her wealth ofknowledge is amazing. Back to basics with no television in the room andonly wifi in the lounge area.

Review 3:The chateau was beautiful, quiet and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and abundant. The owner Mary and the staff person Monique were both very friendly and helpful. We had rented a car so in one day were able to visit two castles/chateaus, a mushroom cave, a tasting of sparking wines and a friendly neighborhood restaurant. Our room at the chateau was big, comfortable and quiet. Mary welcomed us with glasses of sparking wine and chips. Overall a delightful experience.

Review 4:Excellent chateau experience and very nice hosts helpful with restaurant reservations and directions. Enjoyed company of other guests in common areas over drinks and dining room during breakfast.

Review 5:The location is a bit far from town. Without a car, it's difficult to go to the town for dinner.

Review 6:The friendly staff and owner. The other guests that we could have breakfast together.

Review 7:Living in a chateau for 5 nights Perfect location to visit sites and chateaux in the Loir Vallé. Owner, Mary from Ireland always ready to help, Monique ,housekeeper, polite and always ready to help, breakfast Is fine

Review 8:A bit basic and haphazard in terms of facilities

Review 9:The Irish owners have created a very informal atmosphere, giving us the run of the house. Nice relaxed pool and a our favourite: a fountain with frogs behind the house. Lovely Monique really looked after everybody.

Review 10:Used for an overnight stop on the way to the Dordogne. Lovely room in a beautiful chateau with an excellent breakfast. Welcoming and helpful hosts and secure off road parking for the Ferrari. Would use again if in the area in the future.

Review 11:The only bad thing was that we couldn't stay longer.

Review 12:The welcome, Mary & Conor are wonderful hosts & they have a great rapport will all their guests. On our 1st night there we were invited to the drawing room, to have a drink before we went out for dinner. All the other guests were there too. It was lovely to meet & chat with them all. It was so relaxing we could have stayed in for the night!

Review 13:Leaving !!!

Review 14:This turned out to be the most memorable stay during our 13 week overseas holiday. Our delightful hosts, Mary & Conor, provided the quintessential experience staying in a beautiful chateaux in the Loire Valley. Mary provides advice on wineries, restaurants, bike hire & lots of good conversation over a welcome glass of sparkling. At breakfast on our last day the 11 guests conversed as if we were all life long friends. Its that type of atmosphere. Plus the 300 year old heritage listed sequoia is just magnificent. Highly recommended.

Review 15:All great except for value as the cost was based on number of beds in room rather than number of people. I.e. We were a couple but our room happened to have 4 beds, not asked for, so we were charged more than our friends' far superior room that only had one double bed.

Review 16:We were cycling, and it is a little difficult to reach by bike as it is on a busy street without a sidewalk. It is not far from Saumur by car or taxi, but if you are biking it is a little too far to go in for dinner. We ended up having to take taxis, which are very expensive in Saumur. If you do not have a car, I would recommend staying in Saumur proper.

Review 17:What a charming and romantic place! I felt a bit like a character in a Jane Austen novel, invited to stay at a country estate. Perhaps the UK hostess helped with the ambiance! The decor was perfectly French, of course. Very welcoming, a lovely stay.

Review 18:We loved our stay at the Chateau, while visiting the Castles of the Loire Valley. Location and accommodations was beautiful. We had the family suite and enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts provided by the staff. Monique was very welcoming and helpful to us! We would highly recommend this Chateau as a place for visiting the area!

Review 19:Unfortunately, the wifi reception in our room was very poor during our stay.

Review 20:Our one-night stay in Saumur was too short to fully enjoy all the Chateau de Beaulieu has to offer. Lovely B&B in an excellent location and with stylish interiors. The friendly hostess will happily advise you on the best places to eat in Saumur.

Review 21:We spend 2 nights at the Château de Beaulieu! Mary made our stay enjoyable. Excellent recommendation for dinner. The Pot du Lapin just down the street! A. Good breakfast but bed a bit hard other than that it was pleasant!

Review 22:Facilities to make coffee/tea would be a welcome improvement

Review 23:Character of Chateau Welcoming and helpful hostess Parking Breakfast with other guests - house party atmosphere

Review 24:We prefer to shower and the circular screen over the bath for showering was rather confining, but of little account set against all of the good points - and would not discourage a return visit.

Review 25:We were very warmly welcomed, extremely well looked after, nothing whatsoever was any trouble to our hosts, and the chateau environment and style were a great experience. Crisp linen complemented a comfortable bed, and a generous choice of food was provided for breakfast with good coffee ad.lib. We certainly hope to return.

Review 26:...Nothing ...eveything was great!! the only thing that could probably be improved is a bit more enriched breakfast

Review 27:- Very convenient location for visiting Loire area - Very polite & helpful owners - Beautiful decoration & amazing setting - Nice , spacious & clean rooms

Review 28:Breakfast superb. Staff excellent, also great location and a beautiful chateau. Mary the owner could not be more helpful and we will definitely return.

Review 29:Only downside, check out is at 12 pm but check in only after 5 pm 15-20 minute walk to the town; easy accessibility

Review 30:Very spacious; well furnished with French antique style furniture. Lovely garden outlook with a medium sized pool. Parking in the grounds Great hosts - helpful, fluent in English and French. Easy accessibility.

Review 31:Nothing!

Review 32:The room was very comfortable, as was the bed. The hosts were most gracious. Breakfast was excellent. It was very cool during our visit so we did not have a chance to use the pool. The location was good- just a few minutes out of town and quiet.

Review 33:Fantastic building to give you the chateau experience, Mary and Connor were fantastic hosts with lots of advice for the region. Great location with access to Saumur for restaurants and the larger Loire region. Great breakfasts!

Review 34:The check in time of 5pm. Having driven quite a way, we looked forward to relaxing at The Chateau, and there was no one anywhere. The front door was firmly locked and we had to drive to Saumur and wander around for 3 hours killing time, So don"t try to check in before 5pm!!

Review 35:The accomadation and the grounds were great and we took full advantage of them as we had been driving around quite a bit. Our room was the XX111 suite and was very spacious. The chateau is quite away from any restaurants and Monique (The Manager) is very helpful making reservations as there isn"t a restaurant on the premises. Would go back again.

Review 36:Access was via the small set of steps which were a little awkward to negotiate with luggage for an elderly guest.

Review 37:Everything !

Review 38:A beautiful establishment - elegant, quiet, full of character. A very warm welcome and a wonderful breakfast - thank you!

Review 39:25 minute walk to nearest restaurant, need to drive into town for choice.

Review 40:Very friendly, beautifully furnished, greeted with tea and homemade cake.

Review 41:Very warm welcome, beautiful rooms, good breakfast. Very clean

Review 42:Inaccessible to town centre on foot. Hard to find - poorly signposted.

Review 43:Pleasant staff and ambience

Review 44:character of the chateau

Review 45:Leavong

Review 46:Everything. Owner Mary receives you like an old friend, full of information and a great baker. Rooms of character have furniture to match.

Review 54:Peaceful, comfortable, nice pool, comfortable bed

Review 55:I would highly recommend the breakfast it was wonderful to all mix together around a big table with other nationalities

Review 56:The place is very beautiful and the room was amazing.

Review 57:no kettle or TV in the room.

Review 58:Very friendly owners and staff; lounge area very spacious and comfortable nice pool.

Review 59:Located in room high up to 2 children - 4 large suitcases to carry up very awkward stairs - not for elderly or unfit

Review 60:Beautifully appointed rooms, excellent staff, good location, nice property.

Review 61:Spacious rooms, lovely setting, great staff

Review 62:relaxed atmosphere. great breakfast. what you see is what you get.

Review 63:Lovely spacious comfortable room and very friendly staff.a touch of old France!

Review 64:It rained!

Review 65:The setting, the accommodation, the room, the staff, the breakfast - everything was marvellous.

Review 66:Breakfast and the beautiful Chateau, well-maintained property

Review 67:A little tired, but thats not a criticism.

Review 68:The feel of a genuine Loire Chateau.

Review 69:Mary was so welcoming and helpful. Was just like home. Very informative to the local points of interest.

Review 70:nice location just outside saumur town, very welcoming and helpful hosts, nice pool area with honour system drinks bar for cool drinks by the pool!

Review 71:Nothing

Review 72:Everything, sumptuous surroundings friendly and helpful owner on site. Nicest sheets we have ever slept on

Review 73:Very friendly and helpful lady (Mary) who owns he Chateau, she wasparticularly lovely with our 3 year old daughter. Gave us very gooddirections to a lovely creperie in Saumur for dinner and the houseitself was beautiful.

Review 74:A little bit of maintenance - ie toilet seat was not secure, needed a few hooks in bathroom to hang towels. Eggs at breakfast would be nice.

Review 75:The atmosphere of an old chateau. Wardrobe door creaked, doors creaked, plumbing was noisy but when it was time to sleep blissfully quiet. Very comfortable and happy to recommend. Would stay again

Review 76:The electric toilet was a bit scary at first. The shower in our room - the Pompadour room - was a bit small, so difficult to pick up the soap if you dropped it

Review 77:This hotel is owner run by Mary and Conor and they were fabulous hosts. We felt very at home. Mary always had suggestions regarding good places to eat and things to do

Review 78:One could hardly find anything here to complain about, otherwise you are a perfect bore:)

Review 79:Fantastic hostess Mary did her best to make us both (me and my son aged 3) feel comfortable and chic, her breakfast bakery is unforgettable. Be ready to spend some time in a real castle and feel like an aristocrat. Hotel Richelieu is worth staying for sure, it's delicious and a true 5-sense delight

Review 80:I thought the rate was a little expensive, but I'm unsure of the pricing for other accommodations in the area. If I had to say one thing that needs improvement, I thought the breakfast was very basic. Although on occasion there was fresh baked bread and scones, it was rather difficult for my wife to eat because she is gluten and dairy free, although they did make amazing coffee for the morning!!

Review 81:Mary was a fabulous host! She gave amazing recommendations. The Chateau was spotless, our room was large. It was perfect because we had my mother with us and the room was large enough and separated enough that we still had privacy. We would definitely stay with her again. Saumur was gorgeous, had a nice city "centre" and it was a great place to stay for traveling around the Loire Valley.

Review 82:A bit difficult to find. Not very close to anything of interest. A rather tired place in great need of refurbishment, although some steps in that direction are being taken.

Review 83:Staff, after considerable discussion, was willing to meet our requirements for a suitable room.

Review 84:We thought that Mary our Hostess was a very lovely accommodating lady - nothing was too much trouble and our breakfast the next morning was superb.

Review 85:Nothing really. When driving past, the house could be easy to miss.

Review 86:charming deco, friendly hostess, beautiful mansion and garden, enjoyable breakfast

Review 87:Bigger garbage can

Review 88:The pool, the staff, the room

Review 89:Staff rude and unhelpful

Review 90:Location

Review 91:Nice breakfast, cozy and nice place. Staff was so helpful and intimate.

Review 92:Charming owner and a beautiful building
