Reviews for The Yorkshire Hotel
Review 1:everything was perfect . We enjoyed our stay and will return often. We have stayed in other hotels in Harrogate which for the price were very poor indeed. The standard and the price of the Yorkshire hotel was first class brilliant.
Review 2:rooms are very tired
Review 3:Fantastic staff Simon Steve and Michelle were fabulous. The rooms were tired and are in need of redecoration. Good food and fantastic staff make up for a tired room
Review 4:The rooms are old, cold, and damp. the hotel put me into a single room, that can only be described as a small cell, the bathroom was bigger, the room was noisy due to the kitchen fans running until late, and again very early in the morning.
Review 5:The location was great for what we needed,
Review 6:It is an old hotel with lots of character but must be a maintenance drain for any proprietor. Lobby public areas and the room were maintained well enough, but the upstairs hallway carpets need to be replaced. The carpets on the otherwise very distinguished stairway would last longer with stair treads.
Review 7:The location of the hotel places it in an ideal location in Harrogate, and the price was right for a stay in an adequate room with breakfast.
Review 8:Some rooms could do with a revamp. I feel that the bed / mattress's are a bit uncomfortable. Had run out of Steaks for the only evening meal I went in the restaurant for.
Review 9:The location for me is the best bit as I was at the recent Trade show in town. The upgrade on my last night due to a small fault.
Review 10:Room wasn't ready, dark& dingy even though all lights on.cobwebs seen& didn't look as if carpets had been hoovered.Windows streaming with condensation & bathroom wouldn't open.Sounded as if next doors residents were in our room.Breakfast was dried up,when we asked for croissants we were told they would take 15 minutes to cook.Wonderful building a shame it's so run down. One lift out of order for our two night stay.
Review 11:Size of the room& separate lounge areaWonderful location.
Review 12:all in all a good Clean Hotel . good Customer services .staff all friendly / The room was clean and the bed was comfy my score 9.5 out of 10 for somewhere to rest your head and maybe have a bite to eat .. a pleasant stay i had
Review 13:No safe within room Poor decoration in common area Small and tired old lift, one was out of service at time of stay Stained carpet in room Creaky floors. No room service menu for breakfast Room did not come with a good view but had the luxury of viewing internal light well.
Review 14:Location and close proximity to town center. Late checkout given
Review 15:Room very dated needs a serious upgrade. Requested a quite room, my room was at the back of hotel overlooking busy back alley, bars, bin wagons etc!!
Review 16:Staff very friendly. Hotel location excellent
Review 17:The heater in the room was not adequate for the size of the room. It was quite cold and only stayed on for a few minutes at a time. Only one lift was working.
Review 18:Ideal situation, friendly staff, comfortable bed and breakfast superb.
Review 19:Parts of hotel looking very tired, including bathroom in room. However hotel is under new ownership (Creiff Hydro) so I'd expect they'll be looking to upgrade.
Review 20:Excellent location in centre of Harrogate. Great value (I got a very good last minute deal). Comfortable bed with fresh, clean linen. Free parking (on a first come basis).
Review 21:Nothing!
Review 22:Big room, very clean, massive bed, bath with loads of hot water, powerful shower. Parking out the front, great location. Friendly, welcoming staff. Incredible value!
Review 23:great location staff could't do enough for you, rooms are warm and comfy but need updating, brilliant breakfast and bar food great and good value for money.stayed new years eve and new years day
Review 24:I took my partner for a break for his 60th birthday. .the room was adequate but wall lights didn't work and it wasn't a double bed but 2 beds pushed together. The beakfast was disappointing. .we both waited 20 minutes for a fried egg and while eating our breakfast a guest opened his lap top and started a face fo face conversation loudly with a man with no clothes on and covered in tattoos. .we mentioned it to one of the staff and he said..well its not ideal. I was hoping for a refund of some sort as it was a dissapointing stay thankyou hazel
Review 25:The bedroom & bathroom were very cold as the wall heater was inadequate for winter temperatures. The window frames were old & ill-fitting so there was a constant icy cold draught. We were there for 6 nights & had 6 coathangers, 2 of which were needed for outdoor coats leaving 2 hangers each for 6 days worth of clothes.
Review 26:The breakfasts were excellent & the staff were pleasant & helpful. The location was ideal for exploring the town. The bed was large & very comfortable & warm.
Review 27:Limited parking places meant too much time spent trying to sort one. Breakfast was ordinary & disappointing. Room was tired and needed some refurbishing.
Review 28:We liked the location. Our room had a good view over Prospect place. Good sized room and comfortable bed.
Review 29:Upstairs is a little dated - creaky floors, cracked plaster etc. but I guess that's to be expected in such a fantastic old building!
Review 30:Great location Friendly staff Great facilities
Review 31:The fact our shower didn't work even after reporting this to reception on a number of occasions and maybe the parking is a little frustrating ....not enough allocated spaces for the size of the hotel .
Review 32:The location and the size of the bed !!! Absolutely loved the Peter Kay shuffle from the waiter on our first evening when we dined , he gave excellent customer service & very relaxed and friendly atmosphere in restaurant.
Review 33:Not enough car park spaces.
Review 34:Staff very friendly and our room 101 was spacious and clean. It wasn't just a room that looked like all the usual modern day hotels like Premier or Teavel Lodge. Bar staff knowledgeable and friendly as were the waiting and reception staff. Will stay again.
Review 35:The rooms weren't anything like the pictures. The lobby is beautiful but everything else disappointing. Halls old with creaky floorboards, mouldy window in room, outdated bathroom. Breakfast was poor- rubbery bacon and food wasn't fresh.
Review 36:Great location within easy walking distance to town and the bars and restaurants. Bed was comfortable and the only recently updated item in the room.
Review 37:Air conditioning unit buzzing all night could hear all night due to the windows being very thin and let draft in.
Review 38:Staff very helpful. Great location. Very nice looking hotel very clean
Review 39:Upper floors nowhere near as good as the lobby/restaurant.Very tired funiture carpets etc.Bit dissapointed as supposed to be feature room. Bedrooms need investment.
Review 40:Clean, good breakfast (except for the coffee!) Great location, good staff.
Review 41:Bathromm could be updated , but was still claen etc
Review 42:The hotel was just round the corner from the shops , so not far tog . Also managed to get parked on hotel car park . Food was good . Not a modern hotel but didn't want that !! Lots of charecter
Review 43:no parking at hotel, had to pay by meter on street. my (single ) room had no telephone, no hair dryer. There is no central heating: a plug-in heater was available, but looked rather suspect.
Review 44:convenient location on centre of town
Review 45:lifts a bit small and slow for size of hotel. Toiletries tissues etc not replenished
Review 46:Fabulous position in the centre of town. Staff very welcoming and helpful breakfast excellent
Review 47:Lack of double glazing made it noisy and cold at times. The lighting in dated bathroom could be an issue for some.
Review 48:Loved the friendly, efficient, knowledgeable staff made my visit all the better. Breakfast was good The room was nicely decorated and very clean, WiFi excellent and complimentary.
Review 49:Rooms were a little dated but nothing that would spoil our stay .
Review 50:Everything!! Was very central to all shops and bars . Never been before and loved it!!
Review 51:Parking was difficult- only got a space once in 4 days Rooms not cleaned or made up first night
Review 52:Very comfortable beds and free wifi Friendly and obliging staff
Review 53:Central to all the shops . Clean beds and bathrooms . Also a big bonus was this IS a dog friendly Hotel and I could leave my elderly dog in the room while I went Christmas shopping Spent 3 lovely nights here . And I've never tasted a Ham & Chese toastie like at this hotel Will book again soon
Review 54:Excellent location with free parking,All staff friendly, Reception and Bar Areas nice and relaxing,Had Evening Meal in Hotel, Food was Excellent, As were the Staff.Looking to book again before New Year.
Review 55:Everything from the moment we checked in the staff were lovely very clean hotel.beautiful location.looked amazing with Xmas lights up.I would definitely stay again and recommend it to friends.
Review 56:Very central location, 10 mins walk from the railway Station. Friendly staff. Can have dinner in the hotel and as a solo female traveller did not feel uncomfortable dining there. Staff very friendly and obliging. Can leave luggage after check out. Room reasonable size. Decor slightly tired looking is the slight minus.
Review 57:Lovely place although carpets in the corridors were a little dated. At breakfast - what would be a nice if staff could circle the room with either tea & coffee and top everyone's cups up, that would really make a difference to me. Given the name serving Yorkshire tea would also be a bonus.
Review 58:Staff welcoming. Central location in Harrogate; parking right out front. Very clean and warm. Cocktails 2 for 1. Thank you. Certainly would return again.
Review 59:Dreadful coffee at breakfast!
Review 60:Amazing location, perfect for town & the station but a little expensive. Comfortable enough but a little dated and a little sparse. Public areas were very nice. Breakfast ok, nothing to rave about.
Review 61:The fact that we had obviously been bumped in favour of wedding guests, our "signature suite" had a panoramic view of an internal quadrant.
Review 62:Staff were very helpful, one of our party fell ill and the response of the staff was excellent, arranging medical help & support.
Review 63:Our stay coincided with a Christmas party for the staff from Betty's. Very loud music until after 12:30 in the early morning and then had people from the party running up and down corridors and slamming doors into the early hours. Not conducive to a good nights sleep!
Review 64:Great location
Review 65:Not being able to use the restaurant due to 2x coach parties in there.
Review 66:Enormous room, quiet, clean, right in the middle of Harrogate, opposite Betties tea rooms.
Review 67:Room was nice but needs a bit TLC in the bathroom appart from that everything was really nice
Review 68:Staff where very helpfull and polite, hotel is in a good location
Review 69:Not really a dislike but the hotel was a bit tired & dated. Im aware this was probably in character with the hotel but a facelift wouldnt go a miss :-D
Review 70:The staff were really helpful & ordered a taxi for us for our evening out. The attached bar was great & the Angus burger was delicious :-D
Review 71:some kind of air freshener was used in the hoover or in the cleaning materials, when we specifically asked for no air fresheners. My wife is a severe asthmatic and her breathing was affected.
Review 72:Friendly and helpful staff. Good location for HIC.Comfortable beds, powerful shower and clean. Some décor tired but apparently it will be addressed in the near future.
Review 73:Where do I start? Mine was not one of the refurbed rooms. Kettle had a scorch mark, bathroom was a disgrace, nearly flooded it because the tap wouldn't turn off etc etc
Review 74:Near to the exhibition I was attending
Review 75:Well like all hotels a coat of paint would cheer things up
Review 76:Great hotel for getting any location around Harrogate. Railway stn less than 5 mins walk as is conference ctr. Loads of resturants within a min or two from the hotel front door.
Review 77:The hotel has lost many of it's original features inside and the remaining ones are faded and tired. The owners should visit The Headland in Newquay to get some good ideas before they refurb.
Review 78:Location is excellent, staff are good.
Review 79:Rooms were dated and could do with a makeover. Rooms were also freezing. Was quite disappointed as an overnight stay in my opinion was not worth £90.
Review 80:Location was excellent right in the centre and near the Christmas market which is what we went for. Staff were lovely and very friendly.
Review 81:Hotel bedroom decor felt tired and needed update. Breakfast would have been better if it was hotter
Review 82:Staff friendly and helpful. Bed very comfortable. Evening meal good
Review 83:It wasn't made clear when I booked that there were fewer parking spaces than rooms and we would have to pay for parking elsewhere. When I raised this with reception they were distinctly unapologetic and I was told 'it is what it is' which is really NOT the way to deal with a frustrated customer who is soaked from walking from their distant parking spot in the pouring rain.
Review 84:Our room was clean and nice and big. The bed was comfortable.
Review 85:The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, especially the beds. The lovely thick curtains kept out the noise and the cold from the single paned windows...no doubt, a feature of a listed building.
Review 86:poor breakfasts, should be cooked to order and expensive considering that 10 yards away a café offer was around £6per person for a full English breakfast. The white Hart offers much better value and we will not stay at the Yorkshire again.
Review 87:Great location but.........facilities left a lot to be desired, dark and dingy rooms corridoors lacked any welcoming features and the lifts were just abysmal. All the staff we met were brilliant, pity about the hotel.
Review 88:Rooms in serious need of upgrade. When we arrived found crisps on bedroom floor along with dead wasp so it hadn't been vacuumed to any great degree. Woke up by maid at 8.30am on first morning asking if we wanted clean towels/ toilet rolls. Didn't take dirty towels or offer to clean room.
Review 89:Whilst everywhere was clean it's obvious the hotel is in need of renovation but I understand that this is about to happen so in no way is this a criticism.
Review 90:Staff were very helpfull and nothing was too much trouble. We weren't too sure about eating in the hotel restaurant but wer very glad we did! Theevening meal and breakfast were excellent.
Review 91:Shower was awful! And when you work away you expect a shower that works!! Noisy! Not a chance it was worth £50 a night. The rooms need looking at by the hotel and they shouldn't be able to book them out!
Review 92:Comfy bed, friendly staff
Review 93:The hotel was clean but needed updating in all areas but the restaurant and bar. The room including the bathroom was of a nice size but again was in need of bringing up to date.
Review 94:The hotel is in a great location with super access to the town. The room overlooked the park which was rather nice.
Review 95:The room and hallway was very dated, it is in desperate need of refurbishing!
Review 96:How central it was and the staff were inviting and helpful. Would like give a special mention to the receptionist on my arrival.
Review 97:THE FOOD!!!! first night "sorry we've run out of fish and chips" 2nd day - soup was like drinking dishwater!!!!! Breakfasts"here's your poached eggs make your own toast" For a hotel of this size and cos not acceptable!!!
Review 98:Lovely bedroom and friendly staff
Review 99:The rooms are a bit dated and in need of some T L C
Review 100:Location excellent, staff very attentive had a problem with my meal which was sorted without fuss, and very promptly
Review 101:It's all a bit tired and dated. The rooms need modernising and the place in general needs a major refurb.
Review 102:It's location is great and staff are friendly. Breakfast and food was great.
Review 103:Carpet in hallways a bit tatty
Review 104:Excellent location. Large room with really large comfortable bed. Cleaned daily with fresh towels. View of Bettys tea rooms from our room and other old buildings and gardens
Review 105:The room was very tired looking. The bathroom was very old with chipped woodwork everywhere. We changed rooms to a slightly better one but then found the previous guests underwear in the bed side drawer.
Review 106:Staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was nice.
Review 107:The rooms. We had four single rooms, none the same (the hotel call this 'quirky') and two of us changed rooms. They were all very small or had some problem such as lights and phone not working and a window that would not open and one room smelt musty. The lighting in two of the rooms was quite dim.
Review 108:A good location and friendly, helpful staff.
Review 109:The room was clean, but very small. Old water was left in the kettle.Furniture could be updated and the bathroom needs a general makeover. Breakfast was cold .
Review 110:Location was excellent for the needs we required, the staff were courteous, lovely and friendly .
Review 111:all areas were scruffy & badly maintained. Bathroom was unclean with build of scum round bath. Whole hotel needs refurb
Review 112:location & fab view of Harrogate Stray
Review 113:Room cleanliness was ok however considerable amount of dust on headboard and on rims of lights. Bathroom sink had accumulation of dirt around plug hole..which I cleaned before use. We did not appreciate our door being knocked by cleaning staff on the forst morning at 08.45 asking if we required a service that day either. Breakfast was also disappointing.. sausages and bacon anaemic in appearance and could have done with longer in the oven/grill. Also food look warm.
Review 114:The location is excellent and the staff in the Hg1 bar provided exceptional service.
Review 115:The bathroom had an unfortunate smell about it, and the room just looked like it needed a good coat of paint and some love.
Review 116:The staff could not have been more helpful on the Reception Desk and the gentleman in the restaurant, not so much the young ladies.
Review 117:Shabby bedroom landings Bedroom was quite well decorated but the bathroom needed updating . The shower didn't work properly and the window blind was mouldy . Breakfast was alright but only dried up scrambled egg on offer so no choice?!
Review 118:Position of the hotel very central and bed comfortable
Review 119:Rooms was a bit "tired" flaking wall paper and paint. Shower head was loose and dangerous. We informed reception and it was fixed and we did get an apology. Just needs a little tlc to make it a good hotel.
Review 120:Friendliness of staff was great and the lobby, bar and restaurant were very good.
Review 121:Standard room can only be described as sub standard. Shabby bedroom, bathroom tired and rather unpleasant and location noisy due to air condition/heating system.
Review 122:Location
Review 123:Very little sleep due to noise outside my room to rear of hotel from busy bar. When complained the staff simply said yes we know its terrible sometimes! Stood waiting for 10 mins for all the ingredients of cooked breakfast to be ready - comment from staff this time; as soon as we put it out it goes! No apology either time and lack of sleep really annoyed me.
Review 124:location
Review 125:The hotel is very very old and the staff looks like too busy on the phone kettle in the room was so disgusting looks like it's not been used for many years
Review 126:Location is very ease access to town centre and conference centre
Review 127:Very noisy from rooms above, and either side, didn't get very much sleep. Breakfast was quite poor, not much choice, the hot breakfast was just Luke warm, again not much choice.
Review 128:Location was good
Review 129:Very Shabby run down rooms All Breakfast cold Staff were told about breakfast and nothing was done - said she would note it on a scrap piece of paper but no apology / compensation etc - Not particularly bothered
Review 130:The location was good Clean as much as it could be but standard of room and décor really poor so cleanliness didn't really help over all feel
Review 131:The hotel was great but could do with a lick of paint. Our room was a great size but the bathroom was a it shabby
Review 132:The staff were friendly, food good good size room. Hotel was in a great location.
Review 133:Couldn't park. Had to park on road and pay for time before and after free night time parking times.
Review 134:Lovely big room and bathroom. Huge comfortable bed. Great breakfast
Review 135:Had to wait an extra hour for room to be ready. Then we had to ask for different room, had requested ccertain things which had not been taken into account. Parking was an issue, only two disabled bays and not enough spaces, had to park in pay and display for 24 hours round the corner.
Review 136:Hotel very central in Location
Review 137:Parking is limited and parts of the hotel could do with refurbishing.
Review 138:Centrally located for visitor attractions and shops (opposite Betty's tea rooms). Great view from our room at the front of the hotel. Clean comfy bed.
