Reviews for Hôtel L'orque Bleue

Review 1:Only 9 rooms have a view over the canal. The room was very simple (no fridge, no coffee maker, no glasses). Clearly paying 131 euros for a double room with breakfast of this level is not value for money. Price is overrated.

Review 2:The location. The room was ok but very simple. The young man at our arrival was very pleasant and helpful.

Review 3:We particularly liked the modern bathroom with walk in shower, the French windows looking onto the canal, and the feeling of spaciousness and light in the public spaces.

Review 4:The location of the hotel was fantastic and the hotel felt like a small stylish boutique hotel but with a sense of space and spotlessly clean. The guy at reception was really helpful and spoke excellent English. Good breakfast.

Review 5:The bathroom while very spacious could use some modernising or at least refreshing. Toilets are the same.

Review 6:Great staff, when I made the booking they called regarding my request. Check-in went smoothly. Always someone at the desk and very helpfull with our questions. Location is amazing. Main lobby, stairwell, restraurant and courtyard are great and stylish. The room was of good size, and the furnuture was mordern and in good condition.

Review 7:We loved the location and our room overlooking the Grand Canal. Our room was comfortable and well serviced, and the breakfast enjoyed in a relaxed environment. We appreciated Julien letting us know that we could bring lunch into the courtyard area.

Review 8:The coffee! A bit of a disappointment! A good quality coffee machine, featuring espressos, etc., would be a definite improvement - everyone loves that "first cup" in the morning!

Review 9:the location of the hotel could not be better, and the room was excellent. Ask for an upgrade to a front facing room! It is worth the additional cost!

Review 10:The small TV was a bit dated. The WiFi could have been better.

Review 11:Very nice hotel. Our room had the canal view which was excellent. We enjoyed our short stay.

Review 12:Very very basic. Not even so much as a kettle in the family room. Parking is across the canal, quite a long walk with luggage and 2 young children. This also costs €17 per day so this must be factored into the hotel room rate

Review 13:Comfortable bed, central location,

Review 14:Nothing was really bad but the bed was small for a double and a bit uncomfortable. There was a big jump in price for a room at the front overlooking the canal so we had to settle for a room at the back which was less beautiful and slightly cramped. But overall these are quibbles. It was a nice place to stay.

Review 15:A stylish hotel in a great location on the canal side. A lovely old building being steadily renovated with a great eye for detail. The lobby area and the breakfast hall are particularly beautiful. Friendly staff who clearly cared that we had a good time.

Review 16:Very hot inside the hotel (No AC except in the rooms). The building is old and the balcony doesn't inspire any confidence...

Review 17:Very nice location with view to the channel.

Review 18:We have stayed there before and like it very much. There is nothing to complain about really, and we will go back. But book a garage space when you book the room, parking in Sete is hard!

Review 19:Only thing missing is a kettle in the bedroom for an early morning tea or coffee. Seems French hotels in general are against this.

Review 20:Perfect position. Comfy room.

Review 21:The breakfast is rather basic for the price charged. It would have been nice if they offered cheeses, cold meats, muesli, boiled eggs and fresh squeezed orange juice. The hotel needs some artwork on the walls in the rooms, staircase and hallways.

Review 22:Location was great right on the Royal Canal. Staff are very friendly. Room was simple and comfortable. There is lift/elevator. There is a nice little shop. We had parking for 2 of our 3 nights. Loved the grand old staircase.

Review 23:Satisfied with all facilities

Review 24:Great location quiet but close to the town . Staff very helpful and spoke enough English to help our poor French . Breakfast was quite expensive for the same every day too much bread for me with out a further choice . Would book again and recommend to friends

Review 25:impossible find a car parking close to the hotel. not enough internal parking for the customers. hot room, no available fan. we had to sleep with the open door for a minimum of circulating air

Review 26:good position

Review 27:Cleaning could be a littel bit better. (Found hair on the toilet floor etc. ), staff not personal to you. Not a big problem, but it is the last 10% that make the different to a top hotel.

Review 28:Came late in the evening, so we didn´t have time to visit much around the hotel. But very central, nice old building, typical french room. Breakfast medium.

Review 29:A mini fridge and a safe would be handy.

Review 30:Fab room overlooking the canal. Amazing view. Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. They booked us a taxi back to Montpellier aairport after the Worlwide festival. Aircon and blackout shutters. Worth paying the extra for the canal view.

Review 31:Bathroom was spotless however cleaning staff had let themselves down in the bedroom as there was rubbish & leftover things from the previous guests. Carpet looked a bit dodgy as it had seen better days. Parking was an issue too as there was none available at hotel.

Review 32:I liked the quirkiness of the building & location was excellent.

Review 33:Only criticism was the hotel's lack of parking. There is a car park fairly close by but not quite the security an owner requires!

Review 34:Location excellent, on the quay opposite all the fish restaurants. Food marvellous all supremely fresh! Hotel although an old building has been sympathetically modernised without losing its old world charm

Review 35:In the evening the front desk man spoke no English, during the day the lady did. Parking garage is extremely tight. Enter only if you're comfortable with that. Room view was nothing special. Toilet and bathroom (bath and sink) are in separate rooms.

Review 36:Walking distance to entire port part of town. Many restaurants near by. Room was convenient.

Review 37:Being a French small hotel no coffee or tea making facility available.

Review 38:We had a room with a canal view which was excellent. Waking each morning to a super view of the canal viewed from the French doors. Room spacious and location without a doubt a lovely boutique hotel.

Review 39:Would have liked a kettle in room

Review 40:Wonderful location, make sure you get a canal view. Old building has been thoughtfully converted into a comfortable hotel. Very helpful reception staff. Good AC.

Review 41:Breakfast was very meagre with no choice - you had what was brought to you on a tray. A help yourself buffet would have been nicer, considering that this was a more expensively priced night.

Review 42:This hotel is right in the centre of Sete, so is convenient for walking round the port and near to restaurants. We chose to pay extra for a room with canal view. Room was clean, and bed was comfortable. Not all staff spoke English, especially the waitress at breakfast in the morning, but overall it was a pleasant stay. Parking was on the street nearby.

Review 43:Great location, on the quai, looking across all the fishing boats to the other side of the canal, and all the restaurants. Our canal view room made this a wonderful stay. An established hotel that has been given a bright, fresh makeover- thoroughly recommend it.

Review 44:Couldn't get wifi to work - but a minor issue

Review 45:Wonderful location in the heart of the town on the quayside close to everything, with a great view from the top floor balcony of the canal and old town

Review 46:Continental breakfast was pretty basic - we had hoped for a boiled egg, or slices of cheese/ham, or maybe fruit. Did not like the rubber sheets on mattress as they made sleeping unbearably hot.

Review 47:Hotel faces canal opposite restaurant strip. Parking is so difficult in Sete that it is great to be able to stroll from restaurant back to hotel. Liked the high powered, no lack of hot water shower.

Review 48:Breakfast could be better

Review 49:Great location, recommend the canal view rooms. Very helpful staff Garage parking recommended, well worth the extra €9 per night.

Review 50:Non secured wi if No tea& coffee making facilities or mini bar in room

Review 51:Staff very helpful and friendly Bed very comfortable lovely canal view and very clean

Review 52:The room was a little shabby looking and dated with stains on the carpet and the shower over the bath got water everywhere. No fridge or kettle, but I knew that when I booked.

Review 53:The location was great once we had found it! It's about a 15 to 20 minute walk from the train station.I can't comment on the breakfast as we didn't have it. The hotel has a lift which is always nice. We had a room overlooking the rooftops at the back and were able to open the windows for some fresh air. No nice view but it was quiet for sleeping. We travelled late in the season so don't know whether that would be the case in summer.

Review 54:Do book parking in advance, as the garage is small.

Review 55:Worth paying extra for a canal view which is lovely. Room was old fashioned, but spotless and very comfortable, with separate hallway, bathroom and toilet, so like having a little suite! Staff were very friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay.

Review 56:One member of our group was celiac (allergic to gluten) and the hotel did not seem able to accommodate this at breakfast, for instance by providing cheese, meat or eggs. . However this is still a common problem in France. Too much bread on the table!

Review 57:The location on the quay, right opposite the seafood restaurants, cannot be bettered. It is also close to the no. 3 bus stops for the beach. and the station. The staff are efficient and friendly, and respond quickly to requests. Breakfast is limited but good value and ample.

Review 58:The hotel is difficult to find, even with a GPS. Breakfast is a continental breakfast, but is overpriced. You can get better value in nearby restaurants. It does not offer meals.

Review 59:Parking. The car is the killer in Sete's overcrowded, narrow roads. Cars should be banned. Fortunately, the hotel has about eight car-parking spaces available at no cost, but make sure that you reserve your space. The hotel has free wifi, is clean but otherwise basic.

Review 60:Parking was a nightmare. We had booked a garage space but it was difficult to find with narrow access/exit.

Review 61:Hotel was fine despite the fire alarm overnight.

Review 62:Air conditioning not working & the canal room was beautiful except the lit up Hotel was right outside the window & stayed on all evening. Minor issue though.

Review 63:The ambience of the hotel. The location. After just having spent 7 days on a barge on the Canal du Midi we loved the clean towels, the hot showers & comfortable beds! Breakfast was very good. Hotel has own parking.

Review 64:There wasn't much about the L'orque Bleue my fiancé and I didn't like. I suppose having an ice machine would have been good, and a corkscrew in the room would have saved me asking the front desk attendant. However, he was very accommodating and got me a bowl of ice and a corkscrew. Awesome stay!

Review 65:L'orque Bleue was close to everything. The hotel staff were very accommodating. Our room had a great canal view which was very much worth the extra money. Very clean and comfortable stay. I would strongly recommend for any type of traveler.

Review 66:Uninspired rooms, dull almost. The breakfast just terrible; the french should understand that they are a part of the international word, just a little coffee, bread and a Gauloise isn´t enough any longer. I asked for some cheese, couldn´t be provided.

Review 67:The people at the front desk; kind, informative and professional.

Review 68:Room did not have a view.

Review 69:Perfect location for strolling along the canal. In the right area for restaurants, sights, etc. close to boat trip access. Nice safe garage to park car - recommended to book as there is only expensive parking nearby or take your chance on the street.

Review 70:Family room very very dated and room right at the end of the corridor so no wifi unless you went out of the room and down corridor.

Review 71:Great reception and breakfast room and all near to amenities. It was a stop over so only one night but wouldn't choose to holiday here.

Review 72:+ Problems with wifi on 4th floor + Breakfast are really really bad ( brad and jam. No fruits or some cheese). I would suggest to eat them in other place.

Review 73:+ Location is excelent + I took a room with balcony. I assume that without balcony it and the view to channel it would not work

Review 74:Bedroom very sparsely furnished in proportion to the cost of around 130euros : no coffee making facilities or fridge

Review 75:Location staff cool courtyard where you can retreat from hot sun andcrowds and enjoy a drink

Review 76:Air conditioning failed on a hot night, although I did receive a small discount in compensation. Some street noise during the night. Private parking was In the small hotel garage, which needed to be opened and closed by the staff for each entry/edit.

Review 77:Canal view overlooking all the activity and restaurants. Central location. New well designed shower room. Attractive entrance hall.

Review 78:20min walking from main station Price for room on seaside (not fair) Wifi connection in the room missing

Review 79:Strategic localization..Nearby facilities (Port and city center, restaurants, tourism office, urban transportation) Welcoming, quality of rooms, breakfast (except frech fruit juice missing

Review 80:Wi-fi in my top (3rd) floor room was non-existent. Being used to hotels having a buffet breakfast arrangement, I found the idea of a lady bringing to my table juice/coffee and a basket of bread, croissant, yoghurt etc. rather outdated. (For 9 Euros I only had breakfast once). Over-the-bath shower has clearly been in use for many years!

Review 81:I never expected a room at the front over-looking the canal, but the view over the neighbours' roof-tops was okay (and better than, as a lone traveller, I sometimes get). Reception staff were pleasant and helpful, and spoke passable to excellent English (which was useful to me as I know little French). Despite being a very old building there was, thankfully, a small lift. The location of the hotel is about 25 minutes walk from the train station but only 100m from a bus stop for the no. 3 bus which goes there. Also, the hotel is on the canal where the August St Louis Festival takes place, and very close to many bars and restaurants.

Review 82:Rooms a bit dated but couldn't complain at the price.

Review 83:Hotel with nice architecture, beautiful reception and dining area with wonderful location next to canal.

Review 84:Sete is beautiful but make sure travel arrangements are watertight - v little scope for transport options to and from airports.

Review 85:Location was excellent overlooking the Canal/port. Can't recommend enough paying the extra for the front view rooms - views are spectacular especially at night, the buzz of the little restaurants along the canal side creates a superb holiday atmosphere. Staff were particularly nice - especially the young gentleman who went out of his way to help when airport taxis did not turn up!!

Review 86:the breakfast was the same every day and needed some variety I think - less bread

Review 87:I liked the position of the hotel and the staff, the rooms were totally adequate and we got parking for our car

Review 88:Rooms a little bland..., strange synthetic bed quilt over the sheet which kept slipping off!

Review 89:The location on the main canal close to buses, clean and quiet rooms, excellent Wi-Fi, great shower, helpful staff, comfortable beds

Review 90:No comments to raise!

Review 91:When we arrived in Sete, we lost a backpack which contained our passports. Everyone of the staff members at the hotel tried their upmost to help us, whether it was calling train stations, lost property offices or the police, or printing out information for us or helping us find out how to arrange temporary passports. The staff really helped to limit the negative impacts of this on our holiday. While often French customer service gets a bad press, every staff member at the hotel were superb and I owe them a massive thank you!! We will hopefully be back again next year. In terms of the hotel: Location is superb. Recommend getting a room with views over the canal. Always clean.

Review 92:Thus place is right in the centre of town. But it is quiet and you can easily get everywhere by foot. Make sure you tellvthem you need a parking spot as it is hard to find one in the town on weekends.

Review 93:Hotel has garage but it should be booked in advance, it would be good to have alert about garage booking

Review 94:Good location, nice rooms, welcoming reception with good command of English

Review 95:Very simple Continental breakfast.

Review 96:The room was ready when we arrived at 12.30, nice room with view to the Canal. Very kind staff, and we appreciated the garage. The second day the room was made up at 11.00.

Review 97:No shower curtain in the bath. How do you have a family room with no shower curtain and only a hand sprayer. How is that a "family" room?? They use vinegar instead of detergent on the sheets and towels. You can't get past the smell. Just awful. Facilities are old and dated. Did not pay for breakfast just wanted to get away. Parking is in a scary garage off the back alley. Sete is an interesting town to explore, but definitely stay somewhere else. This is no where near a 3 star hotel by any sane person's standards.

Review 98:location on the canal

Review 99:Parking. Apparently, a reservation was required for hotel parking. When I inquired with the hotel via Booking.com, I was informed that no reservation was required. When I arrived, I was told that a reservation was required and the hotel parking was full.

Review 100:The location was across the street from many good restaurants, so it was convenient to grab a bite for dinner. When we returned to the hotel, we didn't have to contend with crowds and traffic, as there are few restaurants on the same side as the hotel. Very quiet for a good night's sleep. The canal view was charming and the staff was pleasant. The room was small but adequate. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, but went up the street to a local boulangerie for delicious quiche and fresh baked pastries. We even got a warm loaf of French bread to take with us on a picnic. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Review 101:There was nothing NOT to like

Review 102:The size of the bed, we are both tall, and to sleep in a large double bed was wonderful, the room over looked the canal, a wonderful location

Review 103:Quite a way from the train station. The staff were a bit off hand in the welcome and farewell, only sparing about 10 words in all on us.

Review 104:The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was huge.Nice old building facing out onto a canal, close to lots of cafes and restaurants and also the tourist office. Our room did not face the canal, but was consequently quiet.

Review 105:The air conditioner leaked water - a minor maintenance problem

Review 106:Sete is a picturesque fishing town situated on canals and is therefore known as the Venice of Languedoc. This hotel is situated on the quay bordering the Canal Royal and has an excellent view of Mont St Clair and the fishing boats etc. Some of the rooms face an interior courtyard and are cheaper. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 107:Nothing

Review 108:It's a very nice hotel in a super location close to transport, good restaurants and cafes. If you would like to find a hotel in the centre of Sete, it's a very good place to stay.

Review 109:Breakfast rather on the basic side, but this is reflected in the rate charged.

Review 110:Attractive old building in a great location facing across the canal with numerous fishing boats moored and a multitude of fish restaurants on the other side, all within easy walking distance. Bedroom comfortable with small balcony, well worth paying the extra for the canal view. Reserved parking essential, otherwise a nightmare trying to find somewhere on the street - and this wasn't even in the peak holiday season.

Review 111:Internet unreliable.

Review 112:The bed was very comfortable. The shower was perfect. And the location could not be better.

Review 113:The location and staff were great. Easy to find free parking in the street. Great view of the canal.

Review 114:Canal view rooms are really great . Very comfortable hotel with good people.

Review 115:Old carpet need replace

Review 116:matress was hard

Review 117:great location on the canal, with view on the boats and hill in the background. with parking garage, very convenient.

Review 118:We had a very enjoyable stay. Probably the best situated hotel in Sete. We stayed in a canal view room. Can't comment on the rooms at the rear.

Review 119:location by the sea, in the centre of town, near restaurants. character property, friendly staff.

Review 120:Wonderful location in a lovely town.staff friendly and very helpful

Review 121:Location staff room

Review 122:Nothing at all

Review 123:Great Location on the Canal. Get a front room. Worth it for the views of the canal. Nice breakfast.

Review 124:Staff were wonderful!

Review 125:The room was very comfortable and very clean . Loved it. Also liked the decor .

Review 126:The staff were very friendly & extremely helpful. Room was great, new and clean.

Review 127:Comfortable hotel, good breakfast Convenient for restaurants and town

Review 128:No shampoo

Review 129:Location

Review 130:nothing

Review 131:Fantastic location. despite busy centre quiet and calm. Sunset brilliant

Review 132:Location with a sea view
