Reviews for Ardmore House Hotel
Review 1:Bedroom furniture was a little dated however functional, however the ensuite was very modern and looked new.
Review 2:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was lovely really nice Italian food.
Review 3:Easy to find and convenient for city centre. Very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Comfortable room, very clean and tidy. Excellent restaurant with an imaginative menu.
Review 4:Woman who was on reception most often seemed very bad tempered. Restaurant was not open for evening meals. Breakfast was scheduled for 8am start however the staff were not allowed in to building until 8.05am so we just took off being unable to wait.
Review 5:Shortish walk from center of,town. Man that checked us in was very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean indeed.
Review 6:Overpriced for the room we had. The shower took a long time to heat up and was not powerful enough. As well as this the shower was very small and someone who was larger than a size 12 could not possibly fit in.
Review 7:The room was lovely and it was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and the location was good!
Review 8:After our first night, the person who cleaned the room sprayed a lot of an "air purifier" product. The concentration was so high that it was nearly impossible to breath without coughing. It fortunately occurred only once after our demand to refrain from using it.
Review 9:the Family room is below another room where the noise from upstairs was a problem at night and early in the morning. This is due to the structure of the building not necessary the other visitors, The staff on arrival were not particular welcoming.
Review 10:great location to walk into the shops/theatre etc....
Review 11:The single bed and room were a little small. Tv and channels were basic could do with modernising the set up. No lift to top floor.
Review 12:The location is good close to the centre. The room was nice and quiet at the rear of the hotel.
Review 13:I booked a single room but it really was tiny.
Review 14:Busy and centrally located hotel. good facilities and wonderful breakfast. Good dinner the evening before. Lots of loyal customers seemed to be around.
Review 15:It was party night when we arrived but I wasn't warned about this. The room was very noisy until after midnight. For jet lagged travellers this was not a good thing. The room was very squashy with barely enough room to walk at the end of the beds
Review 16:Lovely breakfast, nice staff
Review 17:Parking was impossible on one night because Elvis tribute act was performing. Paying overnight guests should have some priority.
Review 18:Very close to city centre and our son's flat. Breakfast was very good.
Review 19:Didn't like the receptionist's attitude, thought it was quite rude. She demanded a card I used for booking, which I didn't have. even though I payed for the room immediately. I was asked to leave a deposit of 50 pounds in a rather categorical manner. Rather than that, all was good.
Review 20:The house, secluded and nice area. Great breakfast and a lovely, homely feel of the hotel.
Review 21:I thought that the breakfast was a little bit expensive.
Review 22:The location was lovely and the hotel was scrupulously clean (which is my most important factor). I loved the old fashioned nature of the hotel, the nooks and crannies and the beautiful windows. It had all the facilities I could wish for. I could have eaten all my meals there if I had wished.
Review 23:The TV in the room didn't work (OK, sometimes things break but hopefully a problem that they can easily fix for the next occupant of that room) but I've now also realised that they over-charged me for dinner!
Review 24:The staff were very friendly
Review 25:Nothing! ☺
Review 26:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They bent over backwards and made us feel so welcome! The food and service were excellent. Definitely stay again!
Review 27:shower was weak and old. room needed double glazing - despite large radiator it was still cold.
Review 28:Lovely hotel, great breakfast room, nice staff, good breakfast
Review 29:Room was freezing cold all night and there was an issue with a key being given to another resident.
Review 30:Breakfast was lovely and issue with the room was resolved in the morning. Was given a complimentary bottle of wine.
Review 31:Would have preferred more options displayed for breakfast though you can ask for particlar items
Review 32:Nice spacious room for a b&b type hotel. Good service and very polite staff!
Review 33:I ate in the Italian Restaurant at the Hotel and was disappointed with the quality of my main meal (avoid the Spaghetti con Zucchini). The cooked breakfast was small with limited choice for vegetarians/vegans. I was not asked if I enjoyed my stay when checking out.
Review 34:Lovely twin room (single occupancy) with very comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities, good sized ensuite bathroom with great shower. Free WIFI throughout. Great location. The hotel was a good 10 minute walk from St. Albans City railway station and the city centre.
Review 35:Bedroom gave more attention to appearance than practical matters. My room was well heated (even with the radiator turned right down) but without an option for light bedding. The curtains let in a lot of light from the car park floodlight that was mounted quite close to the window. I had a v. poor night's sleep.
Review 36:Excellent restaurant (Italian), & downstairs is well laid out for solo relaxation and conversation in small groups.
Review 37:Pretty old fashioned but very charming little hotel. We just stayed here for a single night but the staff was super friendly and the room was comfortable, pretty much exactly what we were hoping for. The highlight for us was the delicious full english breakfast in the morning which was prepared perfectly.
Review 38:Our room was tight for a double and we needed to move electrical items to be able to access the sockets required for our use. The place is a little dated and the overall appearance and cleanliness was not up to a standard we are used to in other hotels and guesthouses in the same area.
Review 39:It was convenient to where we needed to be.
Review 40:Bathroom, could do with updating, some loose/worn fittings.
Review 41:Location, 10 mins walk to town centre. Room, very clean and comfortable, appeared newly refurbished. Breakfast, cooked to order + good continental selection. Service, pleasant and attentive.
Review 42:Hotel was basic, room was small for a double, ensuite was extremely small. Pressure in shower was low.
Review 43:Hotel staff extremely friendly and courteous. Good breakfast Clean and tidy
Review 44:Room was not especially comfortable. there was a hole in the wall. We were informed on arrival that the restaurant was closed for the night and it is some way from other restaurants in the town centre
Review 45:Good breakfast
Review 46:All good.
Review 47:Staff/owners were genuinely friendly. They gave us a really warm welcome and they were all really friendly throughout our stay. The restaurant was very good. Easy walk to the centre of St Albans for shops, pubs etc.
Review 48:Shower hardly had any pressure. It took a long time just to get wet!
Review 49:Friendly staff, especially the evening waiters in the dining room. It was more homely than one of the big chain hotels.
Review 50:Really good value. 20 minutes from central London. Superb restaurant. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Room was small but comfortable and clean.
Review 51:Felt that room a tad small for price, but this was v.near London, so maybe expecting too much. V.little choice of real ale in bar, but that is a personal issue only.
Review 52:Plenty of parking. Friendly and helpful reception. Room clean, well fitted/furnished and a comfortable bed.
Review 53:Unfriendly bar staff Really tiny size of room with thin walls so could hear snorring from next room Loud road noise. Loud train noise The hardest most uncomfortable bed ever.
Review 54:Friendly receptionist
Review 55:An all round excellent stay in a very nice hotel. Lazarus and his staff were very attentive without being OTT. Would definitely recommend (ask for room overlooking gardens wonderful view). Breakfast is a must great choice!
Review 56:Grand restaurant area, but with with poorly- reheated food, plonkers in reversed baseball caps playing loud continental YouTube music at table, bed not overly comfortable ... but all was adequate overall.
Review 57:Everything was 'adequate' ... staff working like demented wasps determinedly to cover everything and everybody ... real effort, good welcome.
Review 58:The bar area lacked atmosphere...reminded me of a waiting room.. esp the out of date magazines.
Review 59:The Italian meal was excellent... I had the prawns and I didn't want them to end..they were delicious.. my daughter said it was the best pasta she has had!!
Review 60:Bar closed at 11, fair enough, but the whole place closed down by 11.15pm on our return to the hotel with not a single internal light on. Guests are effectively confined to their rooms after 11pm. We got no sympathy the following day. Apparently, should have found a light switch on the opposite wall to the conservatory entrance in the pitch dark. As a bonus, we were woken up by the cleaner despite the 'Do not disturb' sign. She told us this is what the manager had told her she should do.
Review 61:A friendly enough welcome and plenty of comfortable seating in the conservatory and bar areas but only at certain times, apparently.,
Review 62:The towels were small and threadbare -they need replacing!
Review 63:The hair dryer smelt of burning plastic when I switched it on then stopped working. I rang reception and a replacement was brought to my room within minutes. Windows were cracked and didn't shut properly but th heating was switched on early evening so the room was cosy.
Review 64:Railway line noise, remote from other facilities and on a narrow traffic choked street
Review 65:Staff were quite friendly. Plenty of parking. Room a bit cramped.
Review 66:On arrival to the room waste bin was not emptied. Looked like coffee tea milk had been used. Little disappointed.
Review 67:Enjoyed our stay. Room was a little small but adequate. Staff were exceptional. Breakfast excellent. Evening meal in restaurant was perfect.
Review 68:The hotel was within walking distance of the railway station. The room was immaculate. It was comfy, warm and had a new bathroom with a powerful and easy to use shower. There was plenty of storage space. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay.
Review 69:-
Review 70:Very nice staff (owner especially) and excellent Italian restaurant in the hotel. Great English breakfast. The hotel has everything you need for a nice stay.
Review 71:The only things we would suggest could be improved is a more extensive breakfast menu eg to include some kind of fish such as salmon and/or kippers; plus the chairs in the Conservatory could be more comfortable.
Review 72:All the staff we met were friendly & helpful staff, plus the food choice for lunch & dinner was extensive & tasted wonderful!
Review 73:The staff couldn't have been more helpful in every respect of arranging the 90th Birthday lunch for 44 friends and family. Nothing was too much trouble - even moving the tables about an hour before the guests arrived. The food was prepared and served to the highest standards; we had a perfect setting which made for a perfect celebration. Thank you to all the staff at Ardmore House.
Review 74:Close to railway line, noisy, would take earplugs if stayed again.
Review 75:Room was clean & compact. Good breakfast cooked to order. Pleasant friendly staff. Easy walk to town centre.
Review 76:All members of staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome Restaurant has great choice of food and all freshly made. Hotel is old style but has everything you need - tea, coffee making facilities in room, digital TV, desk to work, room clean and adequate for my needs.
Review 77:Was made to feel very welcome and as my son and fiancé and 5 day old baby visited us during our stay they were also welcomed. Had a lovely afternoon with coffee and sandwiches provided.
Review 78:Although this was booked through Booking.com 3 months beforehand, I was not in the main hotel and had a pretty long walk with my luggage to my room in another building. Ladies, if you're on your own, specify you want a room in the main hotel building. This is where the restaurant is located.
Review 79:Very convenient for my work. Mostly helpful and friendly staff. Small but warm and clean room.
Review 80:Didn't like the attitude of Lena, on the front desk. It was soooomuch trouble for her to get a second towel for me. Booking.com was mixedup and sent the hotel instructions that it was just me staying and notmy partner as well. It's just a towel Lena!
Review 81:The room was cozy, the breakfast was lovely as were the ladies in thekitchen serving.
Review 82:The staff (except the young lady at breakfast) didn't seem bothered about the customers. Poor customer service.
Review 83:It was close to the St Albans railway station for our trip to London.
Review 84:The evening meal was very disappointing
Review 85:The location was ideal for us and as we were travelling with three children the room fitted us all in really well
Review 86:Cooked breakfast not very good
Review 87:Pleasent staff very helpful. Evening Restaurant staff very plesent with a good sence of humour. Joe on reception was most helpful
Review 88:Breakfast service finished rather early for a weekend at 09:30. The shower was too weak.
Review 89:The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. Checking in and out was quick. The cooked breakfast was good.
Review 90:Double bed a bit small, since I'm tall. But this is what we booked so no fault of hotel.
Review 91:Location.Staff very friendly and helpful.Thank you,Lazarus!!Beautiful setting.
Review 92:I have no real complaints, you get what you pay for, and for the money it was not at all bad. The breakfast, included in the price was OK, but the bacon was tired looking, it gave the appearance and taste of having been left over from the day before and reheated .
Review 93:Good value for money in a high cost area.
Review 94:The whole experience, the welcome, both of our rooms, the passage ways and landings were all decorated lovelyand the staff were all lovely. The resturant food was really nice and the resturant itself was a talking point. Thought it was a 4* hotel!
Review 95:For £125 I would have expected a lot better. The bathroom was tiny and the shower was dreadful. The bed was average and the inside was quite dated. Really not value for money especially given it's not even that central.
Review 96:Very friendly staff, good breakfast and a very picturesque hotel
Review 97:Staff were tremendous. Extremely accommodating and helpful especially the receptionist who organised the twin room for us the next day as soon as one became available.
Review 98:Shower room small, but adequate.
Review 99:Travelled with son who is autistic. All staff were excellent in their approach towards him and us. Food was excellent and good value. Waiting staff very welcoming and friendly in restaurant.
Review 100:I couldn't work out all the different layers of the bed with the heavy cover and under sheets, since I'm normally accustomed to just a humble duvet.
Review 101:The receptionist lady was very helpful and knowledgeable, giving me useful info on arrival. Good free wifi, was informed there was a problem with wifi in rooms but it was working after I'd connected in the conservatory and moved upstairs. Breakfast included cooked English breakfast made fresh to order as well as continental (croissants, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast, tea). Breakfast staff's service very good too. Lovely room and all have ensuites. Details of the room - immaculate with nice finishing touches. Not far from city centre or train stations.
Review 102:hardly a short walk away from town - took me a good 35 minutes to the cathedral where i was working. Poky little room for example there was a chair behind the table but unusable as rammed between bed and table tiny thin towels ( but changed daily) clean but musty smelling room difficult to get a signal (but recep. helped when asked) will stay in a more modern hotel next time, space more important than 'character'!
Review 103:Friendly staff
Review 104:Ceiling peeling a bit in the shower, and took a while to order breakfast in the mornings, but they were very busy (and only one person was taking orders).
Review 105:Very close to the city centre, nice compact room, comfortable bed and the staff were very friendly.
Review 106:We had a standard room and the shower aperture was too small to easily get into. We showered in the evening and the water was only luke warm-we did report this
Review 107:Staff were warm and friendly. Dinner was really super
Review 108:Room too small. Its totaly out of the standarts. To wash your face in the bathroom you shoul put your back out of the bathroom. To take a shower you can not move!!! Absolutly "NO".. Maybe the whorst room I have even been!!!! A smell of coocking everywhere! My clotes are still smelling of frise eggs.!!
Review 109:the breakfast is massively overpriced at 5 pounds 50p for a buffet breakfast (toast, cereal etc) and around 8 pounds for cooked breakfast. My son only had a small bowl of cereal and we were charged 5.50 for this which i thought was very unfair
Review 110:Upon arrival we received a very nice welcome to the hotel. The hotel was in an excellent location, only a 5 minute walk from st albans city railway station and a 10 minute walk from the town centre.
Review 111:Single rooms are small and beds a bit hard.
Review 112:Staff were very friendly. Very reasonable rate for a beautiful place. Good food and happy to do gluten free where needed.
Review 113:I couldn't always connect to the wifi.
Review 114:I really like how close this hotel is to the train station (walkable). Making it easy to commute to London. I also liked the decor! My stay felt comfortable and relaxed.
Review 115:Water pressure in shower was very low. With 3 people in our group, this took quite some time just for a quick shower!
Review 116:Having a room with 3 beds in, for myself and 2 daughters. The cooked breakfast looked great, although we had the continental!
Review 117:Lack of natural light in our room.
Review 118:Staff friendly and their service was great, always willing and able to help. Food in restaurant and breakfast was excellent.
Review 119:Door would not open unless you gave it a strong push as it was jamming on the door frame. Shower was not hot, only lukewarm. Trains running constantly were noisy but that's not really something they can solve. Breakfast was ok, just tasted a little strange - perhaps the oil they cook the bacon and eggs in. I had ordered mushrooms but the waitress insisted I had not, and was a little abrupt, even though my husband confirmed I had asked for them.
Review 120:Good location for Heathrow Airport. Bed was comfortable enough, room was small but ok.
Review 121:Room was tiny. Shower needed repair. Breakfast
Review 122:Pub serves the Lobby. Nice ambiente. Walking distance to London Train. Parking Space behind the house.
Review 123:The hotel is "Italian" and I was surprised to discover a language barrier. We asked to order wine with a meal and were bought a jug of water, I ordered mushrooms for breakfast and was bought hash browns. Actually I found it funny and did not complain, if I had I am sure they would have fixed it.
Review 124:We chose this hotel because it was near to the station and had parking available. We could leave the car and take the train into central London. We were pleased with the room and the facilities and to be offered a resident's menu in the restaurant. St Albans itself was worth a visit on the Saturday for the market.
Review 125:Cramped room in eaves - 33 steps up a steep staircase! (not all rooms are in the main hotel - ours was in an adjoining house). Single small window had limited opening - would be very hot in summer.
Review 126:Resturant was excellent. The deal was cheap for St Albans and the hotel convenient for travel to London. Ample carparking at rear.
Review 127:The staff were very friendly, the room was very clean and accommodating, we had a good nights sleep, the breakfast was good we did not have to waiting at all, would book again.
Review 128:A long walk to the cathedral but on the plus side it prompted my decision to have dinner in the hotel rather than go back into town.
Review 129:Excellent Italian dinner served on veranda overlooking garden
Review 130:If possible - even a more quiet room
Review 131:Good place for me to stay, visiting familiy in St.Albans. Nice location. Good restaurant. Nice garden. Helpfull staff.
Review 132:Breakfast took ages, it was fully booked which could be understandable that there were delays (although they should know their kitchen capacity). I just wish we could have been told it wasn't worth the wait. The staff were lovely but we were sat next to some creeps who took a picture of us on their phone so didnt have a great atmosphere but I guess you can't blame the hotel for that.
Review 133:We literally just came to sleep. It was very close to where we were. The bed was comfy.
Review 134:The staff are exceptional - there's never an extra mile to go - as they all do the extra mile routinely ! The restaurant is a hidden gem - quality of both food and service are fantastic at very reasonable cost. Stayed here before and will always stay here when visiting St. Albans area !
Review 135:We had the worst room which was on the ground floor at the back of the parking lot with a view of parked cars right outside both our windows. We were also right next to the train line. Also, the place was outdated in its decor and while the staff was very nice, the manager was not. Also, the pictures made the yard look huge and on a small lake but it was a small yard with a tiny pond.
Review 136:Walking distance to downtown.
